You're lying on your bed in the guest's room of Tianna's royal palace, pretty much paralyzed by horrible muscle pains.

You probably overestimated your strength. Oh, well, learning experience.

Amata is with you, gently massaging your back to give you a bit of relief while you're discussing the situation you have in your hands.

And she... she's actually pretty bad at this.

You're no expert at massaging yourself, but you can tell that she's not doing anything. Her touch is way too light and soft. She probably has no idea how to actually give a massage to someone else.

"So, what's so important that can't wait for a good night's rest? Because you look like you could use it." She says. No kidding.

>Who are we?
Maka, an exiled noble who found asylum in the western city of Tianna as a guest of queen Amata (DB), an old friend. Abyssals are targeting the city for conquest, but there seems to be a lot more going on and we're just scratching the surface. Maka Exalted as a Zenith defending the city.

>DB? Zenith? I don't know Exalted...
This quest is as newbie-friendly as possible, and I want it to work as a newbie's intro to Exalted. If you have ANY question, ask in thread. For the setting, google "1d4chan exalted".

Talk about the people s current reaction to ourselves and if she has any other ideas that might help, and if there are others not necessarily associated with here we could talk to about countering the immaculate preachers. Some priests of some gods or such.
If our current plan involves getting gods to help out with the abyssals might as well start up with their infrastructure.

We should also ask what the fuck happened at the wall, and if it was serious.

Amata is a bit shy about her personal wants, if more playful about communicating them. probably holds back because of political concerns. Still one bit of a response will be enough to confirm or deny this supposition.

As for talk, we should tell her about Talon, and of course the letter, and then ask about what happened in the city. battle and our influence on the population both.

You quickly recount the encounter you had with the mysterious Talon near the quarry: how apparently the north side of the island has been claimed by him (and others, since he mentioned that he has to speak with others before taking decisions), and how he apparently isn't hostile, but is also very protective of his turf.

Also, how you got him to agree to a meeting, here in Tianna, tomorrow- which means tonight, you realize.

"...Strange things have always been happening on the north side of the island." Amata explains after hearing your story. "My grandfather tried to colonize it twice, but it always went... very badly. Since then, we left it alone and never had many problems with it. Sometimes barbarian raids, beasts, even a fae attack or two, but, you know, nothing major."

"Any of these things happened recently?" You wonder, staring out of the window. "I'm trying to figure out why this Talon would kill a bunch of barbarians outside of what they seem to consider their territory."

"I have a theory." She replies, still poking at your skin ineffectually. "It seems whoever is now controlling the north side of the island doesn't want to have trouble with us any more than we want to have it with them."

"So, some tribe of barbarians moves south and occupies the quarry, maybe as a staging point from where to launch raids into Tianna's farmland..." You begin.

"...And this Talon attacks them because he knows that, if those raids happened, we would organize an expeditionary force to deal with them, and maybe pursue them in the northern side of the island." She concludes.

"...I proposed this meeting on my own, without first asking if it was alright with you."

"It's alright, I wasn't there and you had to take decisions on your own. And you did good. Actually talking to these northsiders is something that we had to do sooner or later." She says, taking a short break from the massage. Either tired or stopping a moment to wonder if she's doing it right.

"Well, since this day I was technically working for you, i figured a report is in order. I'll just skip to the highlights if you do not mind. Its a bit hard to write it all down just now."

Stretch a bit so as to make her massage a bit more touching and the caress longer.

" I met a charming fellow that can spin illusions like a spider spins web. Gave a a ultimatum to the city that anyone crossing past the quarry is in foreign territory, and means war. Well i found that just so cute pulling of a annexation and told him to come over tomorrow for a talk- i'm not the one in charge of the city after all. This fellow, called Talon, then got caught flat footed screamed he understood and said he will have to talk this over with others. Short temper most likely."

Stretch some more, get her hands at our lower back.

"Oh, right almost forgot, Phoenix. That verbose fellow with the spiky bitch. He sent me a letter. Said i can reply by leaving a letter where I found it. Something about surrendering the city with as little bloodshed as possible. And diner."

Really hope she is at least getting a better massage, if not turn around, an have her massage our shoulders.

"Now if you wont mind could i ask what happened at the wall? And how antsy are people about me now?"
>>
"...Because we need allies?" You ask. Seems a legit concern.

"I'd be satisfied if we could just sign a non-aggression treaty or something like that. Something of a guarantee that we're not going to get stabbed in the back from our own island while we're busy dealing with off-island enemies. Of course getting them to actually assist us would be great." She replies, leaning in and patting you in the back some more. "...Am I doing this right?" She starts wondering aloud.

"So, any plans for tonight? We don't even know who or what these people are." You voice your doubts.

"Lunar Exalted." She replies.

"...I'm sorry?"

"I'm not 100% sure, of course. But let's say it's 90%." Even if you're not looking directly at her, you can HEAR her smug grin. "I have my ways. You might be a Solar, but I've been around for a lot longer than you, and have access to the diaries, letters and archives of the previous rulers of Tianna. Plus, Samiel is a good scout and ranger. He might not be well-informed enough to understand the meaning of what he's reporting on, but thanks to him I've figured out a lot of things on the northside over the years."

"...Alright, I'll bite. What do you know?"

"The northern side of the island is actually roughly divided in three parts. One is shoreline and little islands, a pirate haven. One is a marshy wasteland touched by Wyld. The one bordering with us is a mix of jagged hills and mountainous forests. There are various barbarian tribes there. Some large, some small. Some fairly advanced as far as technology and knowledge go, some very primal. Tianna even used to trade with some of them a long time ago."

You nod.

"The largest power there is these Exalted. I presume there's three of them, maybe four. Moved in somewhere between ten and three years ago, probably not all at once. Since they need to consult one another when making important decisions, it's fair to guess they must be all fairly close in age and power and in good relations with one another. They are also cautious, though that could probably be because no one wants to do something stupid on their own and piss off the other two or three. They control the barbarian tribes, though only some directly. Their control is also not very strict." She explains.

"Otherwise they would have been able to avoid yesterday's small incident."

"Or solve it without killing their own people." She adds.

"Do you think that that might be a sign of infighting between them?"

(cont)
>>
"No. If it were, then Talon wouldn't have said that he had to "consult the others". Also, if they were in an exalted against exalted fight, I'm pretty sure that one of them would have tried to ally with Tianna to gain an edge over his opponents long ago. No, that scene at the Quarry was because some barbarian tribe resented the ban on raiding Tianna's farmland and disobeyed them, They knew you were coming, realized there was no time to solve the problem peacefully. You were about to stumble into their camp, a fight would break out, and we would see that as an invasion of our territory."

"So they killed them all."

"Or killed some and routed the rest north, more likely. Makes an example of who disobeys them and solves the problem quickly in order to avoid a war with Tianna."

"...So what do we do tonight, knowing this?"

"We still don't know too much about them but I'd say we have three possible ways to approach this. Just push for a non-aggression treaty and be satisfied with that. We play it safe. Or, we could try and play them against one another. If it works, things might get bloody, but we stay in control. Of course this works only if they have some resentment towards one another. Or, third option, we try and get them to open up. Pointing out that the Abyssals are a threat to us both, or with some other argument. This has the most risks, but is the most beneficial to us if it works."

"By the way, Amata..."

"...yes?"

"You can massage me a lot harder than this, you know?"

"Uh, sorry." She mumbles. She drops her shoes and climbs on the bed, sitting on your lower back, removing her armored sleeves and starting to knead your shoulders harder.

She's still not very good, but at least now you feel it. Your locked muscles move around a bit, though... yeah, she's no trained masseuse.

Turn around with the face towards her

"I mean Tianna now has her own Solar, and even if they outshine me, well, there still is Samiel, Irene and You."

Give a shit eating grin.

"Considering that they are quite smart about the issues involved, going for membership even if only in the future is in essence a modicum of alliance now, and opens them up a bit. There is little point in raiding if we are a active presence that trades with their population, and more support for that, having someone with mutual interests there. Also more people to call upon in case things get difficult again, provided we manage to get rid of the Abyssals."

We are already in a non-aggression treaty of sorts, as long as neither of us infringes on each other's territory.

Let's go for a non-binding alliance where we would be able to request assistance from them if needed.

>>30520239
>Suggest aiming for a non-aggression treaty.

>>
>>30520239
Formalizing the non-agression should be a first, so that the whole tress pass and war gets overlooked.
Meaning some kind of sanctioned traffic between the two of us, for diplomatic dialogue and perhaps trade.

>>30520311
Membership might be a bit fast just now but starting to make the first moves for it and preparing the ground is not a bad idea.

But we need to have some time to see them as well. They know of us, we need to know of them and see if we can get along.

And we might need to focus on getting some social charm to talk to masses of people so we can persuade city people and their population that this is a good idea. That or a charm that detects their intentions, like sagacious reading of intent or master of small manners, so we do not step on their feet and know for what is being played at in various talks.

>>30520239
>Suggest aiming for an alliance.
It's better to aim high, then dial it back if we don't get it. It makes the non-aggression treaty seem a lot more reasonable of they refuse the alliance.
>>
"Mhh." You think about it. "...Getting them to agree to a non-aggression treaty seems a good first step, though the other ideas seem fine too."

"Keep an open mind and we'll see how to handle them. It's not a bad idea to start with playing it safe, and see if we have the potential to try something more interesting." You hear her say. "I'm going to handle the official negotiations, alright? The upfront stuff. Since I know more about local politics and besides, well, it will be confusing otherwise. We don't want to confuse them too much, confused people tend to act unreasonably."

"...What should I do, then? Backroom deals? I'm not too good at that..."

"No, but you are very much a people person. You should try and get to know them as well as you can, once they're here. What they want, what makes them tick. Meet them personally, have a chat. All "unofficial", of course. All "private" and "personal", pointing out that you're not officially part of the government."

"Plausible deniability?" You ask her.

"Something like that. You could get them to pen up better than I could, considering my station. With me, they'll have to weight both their and my words carefully. But you're not part of the government or of the decision-making process, and have no power to make deals or to make decisions for Tianna on your own, so you can get them to act a lot more casual with you. An outsider."

"It's going to be hard not being the center of attention." You joke.

"I'm sure you'll survive."

"Thanks to your massage, for sure." You both laugh.

By now she has warmed up your shoulders and back enough that you feel... not really "perfect", but fine enough that your world is no longer a hallway of pain. You could even move, and stand up!
Still, you're pretty sure that it's just as much thanks to the fact that you've been resting without moving for a fairly long time.

"Oh, you probably want to know about that letter."

She stops. "...what letter?"

"One of the Abyssals wrote me a letter." You answer.

"...You don't say." Is her reply. "Yes, you're right, I probably want to know about that. What did he write?"

"He wants to talk." You explain.

"Does he." She sighs, exasperated. "They could have tried that BEFORE smashing an airship into my city. I mean, it would've probably been completely useless, but still, they could have tried at least!"

"If you're tired, you can rest a bit." You suggest her. "I think you've massaged me enough."

"Alright." Is Amata's reply, as she lies down on your back. "Mhh. You're a bit too hard, it's uncomfortable."

Rather than pointing out that the bed is large enough for both of you, you slowly turn around (giving her time to lift herself up), going from lying stomach-down to supine.

"Still a bit hard, but at least on this side you have some comfy pillows." She notes, taking full advantage of them. "So, did you reply to that letter?"

"I didn't. After all, it says that they can discuss HOW they occupy Tianna, but the fact that they MUST occupy it is not something they're willing to doubt. I thought it was unacceptable for you." You reply. The feeling of her body pressing on your chest and stomach, going up and down with your breathing rhythm, is a bit distracting. She's a lot lighter than you thought.

"And you're right about that."

"Also the letter asked me to keep it a secret from you." You add.

"I see that we rank about equal as far as "following Abyssals' suggestions" goes."

"Yes. But..."

"I know. They worry me too. This letter actually increases the mystery. They want to capture Tianna intact. Or, well, at least mostly intact. Why?"

Guess that it's more about what exists on the underworld side of the city. They might be trying to keep the city intact and its population alive as a bargaining chip with the deathly city - or as a way of keeping a steady stream of ghosts populating it, instead of offing everyone and then having no new citizens. I'm betting it has to do with whatever's in Tianna's underworld.

"...I don't really know." You admit. "Maybe it's something going on in the Underworld side of Tianna? Did you ever have problems with ghosts or stuff like that?"

"Not before now. Well, the occasional restless ghost and such, but nothing unusual. You know, the normal stuff that happens all over Creation all the time." She admits.

"Or maybe it has something to do with your stash of First Age artifacts?"

"...Maybe? We do have some interesting things in stock, but I can't think of anything that would require this sort of delicate... nah, if it were about that, they'd probably demand it specifically instead of asking us to surrender the entire city."

"Good point." you note. "Say, what's about those signs of battle just outside the breach?"

"Oh." She seems surprised. "Just... just a small-scale Lintha raid. We get them every now and then. They must've seen the breach in the walls and thought it was a good chance. We crushed them without a problem."

Well as anon said its a nice map. I like the position we are in. We have a lake on a river that comes from a wooded area and spills over into the sea where we could have a shipyard that is protected, and if we join up with the lunars their barbarians could have a market there, allowing them to bring their wood and commission their boats, or build their own.

And then the other river that comes from the mountains and through our city is another way where they could have mines and then via boat bring the wares to our city.

The city could be a second shipyard and port since it is pretty protected from the flanks from major weather bullshit.

If i am correct the red line is our border with the lunars to the north and to the east the wyld or fae, right? The lunars have the big forest.

>>30521121
Hmh we should insist on waht the Lintha are. They may be a danger after the Abyssals. mayhap we can conquer or diplomance them to our cause.

If they are fae, i really urge we start making some artifact or charm to push the wyld out of our island. We really don't want that shit here.
>>
>>30520849

This. Plus, is Amata a Dragon-blooded related to Scarlet Empress?

regards, someone who don't know Exalted fluff a bit
>>
>>30521276
The Lintha are a demon-blooded pirate clan. They're essence-users like exalts and notorious for castrating their prisoners.
>>
>>30521276
Lintha are some sort of fish-people pirates that were created by and serve the yozi, aka the guys the Exalted defeated, crippled and imprisoned forever.
I don't think they'd work with anyone but an Infernal
>>
>>30521288
She's probably not related to the Scarlet Empress. The Empress is less than a thousand years old and Amata doesn't bear a name of Realm nobility. She could be descended from a bastard line, though.
>>
>>30521312
>>30521319
Both of these are true. The Lintha are demon-blooded pirates descended from Kimbery, the demon-ocean of motherly hate. They're essence-users, and they were used as a partial model back in the day for designing exaltations - not that anybody remembers this anymore. They tend to have mutations like gills and webbed fingers and toes, and they have pirate ships towed by giant beasts. They hunt down defectors, castrate prisoners and non-Lintha-family crewmates, and are generally horrible people.

Lintha should be killed on sight.
>>
>>30521288
Depends. I think ALL great houses are related to her a bit, so if she's the descendant of a realm DB that had some fun while adventuring in the threshold or ran away, it's possible
>>
um...

Do shadowlands form over water?
Are there any shadowlands over water? Or at they contained to the islands.

I imagine that getting a shadowland to form over water would involve lots of people crammed into lots of ships and killing them all at the same time.

I suppose it wouldn't be too hard to for a determined deathknight

Fuck'em right up. Lunars are going to be big help with that.
One more reason to form up a Federation
>>
>>30521374
>I think ALL great houses are related to her a bit
You would be incorrect. Many great houses are just old Shogunate families given that status by her. Remember, Scarlet hasn't actually been around that long, and she's only had a couple dozen kids. The houses that are largely related to her (because adoptions of Lost Eggs is a thing, so not all of them will be 100%) are houses whose founders were one of her kids, like Mnemon.
>>
>>30521394
I thought one of the reasons she has total control of the Realm were her dynasty charms, which would allow her complete control of a significant part of the DB population?
>>
>>30521376
>Do shadowlands form over water?
They can, especially in an area of lots of shipwrecks.

Don't think of a shadowland like an environmental blight. Think of it as a 'haunted' area. Anywhere you can picture as being 'haunted' is somewhere that shadowlands can form. Reefs haunted by ghost pirates, haunted houses, haunted battlefields, haunted graveyards, haunted forests, and so forth.

"...Are you hiding something from me?" You ask.

"It was no big deal, I tell you." She replies, defensive.

"Amata." You reply, embracing her. "Come on. You know you can trust me."

After a few seconds of silence, she gives in. "...we have spies in Tianna."

"For the Lintha?" That sounds like really bad news.

She nods. "They knew about the breach. They knew that you, Samiel and Irene had left. They attacked in force and exploited our weakest point. We only managed to defeat them because I happened to be nearby, and could rally the troops right away. Plus, Amata's defensive works and artillery emplacements. We were really lucky, but not lucky enough."

"...What happened?" REALLY bad news.

"Of course they couldn't prepare enough men to stage an attack powerful enough to take such a large city so quickly. But I'm pretty sure that in the fight they managed to sneak in the town more of their agents, taking advantage of the chaos and confusion."

"Wait a minute, it's been barely a day and a half from when we decided to go and gather stone from the quarry, to when we actually left and they attacked." You realize.

"Yeah. There's a Lintha advance base somewhere around here. About a day of sailing. Which can be pretty much. Lintha ships can be fast as heck. Demon magic and whatnot. Could be one of the islands on the northern side of the island, or another island to the south a bit further away. We don't really know, and even though we're an island nation Tianna never had a very powerful navy."

"Why not?" You inquire.

She turns around, laying on you stomach to stomach, and looks into your eyes. "...Because the Lintha kept sinking it."

(cont)
>>
>>30521403
I'm not saying most of the Great Houses don't have some of her blood in them. I'm just saying that not all of them are primarily descended from her. At the end of the day, the main reason she has total control is because she has Celestial Sorcery, the Imperial Manse, and is more than 700 years old. She's the goddamn Scarlet Empress.
>>
"...I see." You can only reply. "...Why didn't you want to tell me? About the attack?" You want to clear that up right away.

"You seemed to have a lot on your mind. I didn't want you to feel guilty for not being here for the fight. I also don't want you to get distracted and worry about too many problems at once. I have a good spymaster, and I've..." She pauses, as if thinking about the right way to put it. "...Let's say I've called for reinforcements to deal with this particular problem. It's kinda spy stuff, so secrecy is paramount. Just trust me on this one and don't ask questions. I want you to focus on the OTHER problems we have."

I don't really understand non-metric measures. I'm also a bit hesitant to put a strict scale on that map. In my mind, it's a fairly large island, not enormous but large enough.
One hour of walking, on flatland, on road, per hex? That would put it at about 5 km per hex. Same ballpark as Sicily, Hokkaido or Taiwan.
Keep in mind that I'm eyeballing massively, and also that I don't expect measuring distances in very small detail to be important now or ever.

You say the first thing that comes to mind, which is, incidentally, the truth.

"She was good. A bit clumsy maybe."

"Oh, so you're a big expert, huh." She replies in a superb tone, wrapping the blankets around her like a grand cloak, adopting a spoiled, haughty posture and expression (that fits her so well) while stepping on you, and then standing on your stomach. "You're a SPECIALIST."

"Well-"

"Maybe someday I'll ask you to demonstrate that skill, THEN."

"Amata-"

"Or maybe I'm too soft for you, miss likes-it-rough?"

After a few seconds, you finally decide that she's not actually mad, but just making fun of you. You both start laughing.

"Whatever. She's an adult." She says, jumping down from you. "She's probably older than you, she can do whatever she wants. Same goes for Samiel."

You frown. "I didn't do anything with him..."

"...yet." She ends your sentence with a grin, gathering the blankets in one large ball in her hands.

You sit up. "...Don't worry, Amata. You know I wouldn't do anything to hurt you or your kids."

"I know. Just... treat her well. Be responsible. Don't make her pregnant." She says.

You stare at her for a few seconds, confused. "...Amata? I don't have a-"

You're interrupted by her tossing the ball of blankets into your face. "You never know. You're full of surprises, Maka." She laughs.

When you've managed to clear the blankets from your head, she's left the room.

You look out of your window, at the sky. It's about noon. You should probably get dressed. ...You begin to wonder if it's this Exaltation stuff that has gotten everyone really interested in removing clothes from you.

Terrestrials have a different outlook than historic feudal nobility. Its not land and money that gives power to the house and needs to be divided but numbers and knowledge. More terrestrial exalted or half dragon or god blooded that are overhuman in potential and tied by family ties. That is why the realm has pleasure slaves and its common practice. Not for the express pleasure of the ruler like harems of a sultan but with the veneer of pleasure to have a chance at spawning more DBs.

Said culture is probably from the first age where they managed to number in the millions high not high millions.

Its a different world view. you might say its magical realm but considering the different circumstance about the power dynamic it could not be any other way. DB society knows it needs numbers to be strong and the way to get numbers is fucking or adopting.

And?

You get dressed (with a random set of common clothes, shirt and skirt, from the room's closet), and head out to find Millian.

It doesn't take you long: She was waiting in front of your room's door. With a cart with, you presume, your dinner. Salad, sweet potatoes, freshly baked bread, spiced rice, water and shochu.

With a nod of greeting, she drags the cart in your room. "Here you go. I guess you'll be needing some clothing for tonight? Her Majesty mentioned an important diplomatic event."

"Yes. I don't really have an idea of what these Lunar Exalted from the north - if they really ARE Lunars - might consider appropriate attire."

She mhhs. "I think you should just focus on a style. A look, an image you want to project. Sort of a theme."

"You might be right." You concede. "What do you think?"

"Well..."

You spend the next five to ten minutes discussing clothing and looks, including any make-up or special hairdo. She also takes your measurements properly.

>Something very high-class, fitting of a ruler.

>Something balancing classy and martial, like a dress uniform.

>Something fitting for a servant, maid or concubine.

>Something fit for a traveller or adventurer.
>Something that will make you look like a scholar.

>The style should be tough-looking and armored.

Okay, listen, this is for people concerned about mobility, functionality, and so forth. You're clearly not very experience with Exalted, so let me explain something.

You know how in most RPGs you take penalties for doing things like swinging on a rope to hit someone, riding a collapsing pillar across a chasm, or doing kung fu in high heels?

Exalted doesn't do that. In fact, Exalted gives you bonuses. It's call 'stunting.' In Exalted, when you do something awesome, you get an extra die. When you do something awesome that also uses the environment, you get three dice. And when you do something awesome that leaves everyone at the table going 'holy shit,' you get three dice.

I don't know if our QM is including mechanical stunting, but that's the kind of system and setting Exalted is.

We have literally no reason to wear functional clothes. If anything, we'll do better fighting in high heels and a ball gown than we will in leather boots and wool slacks. Exalts do not follow the rules of realism, they follow the rules of awesome.

Understand?

If we got it, flaunt it.
>>
>>30522435
Honestly? It just seems wasteful and unappreciative of our hosts generosity in providiving us with formal attire. Just because we're a demi-gods doesn't mean we should act like a thoughtless asshole to the people we're in debt to.

After a lot of suggestions, counter-suggestions and arguing with the shorty maid, you begin to narrow down your choices.

"...I think you should aim at sex appeal." She suggests, after a while, with a tone of voice that hints at being something left unsaid under it.

"Why?" You try and get her to talk a bit more, between a bite of your lunch and another.

"You don't even realize, do you?" She mumbles, exasperated. "Have you even looked at yourself in the mirror since you Exalted?"

It slowly dawns on you that you haven't.

"You might fool the princess and even the queen, but you can't fool a maid that can guess sizes and measurements with a glance." She replies, and points an accusatory finger in your direction. "You are unrealistic."

"...I'm sorry?"

"Your body type. You have proportions that are out of this world. Breasts that keep themselves up without any support, hair that is always perfect, never tangled or messy except when it needs to be, clean smooth and uniform skin all over, with no imperfections. You're even muscular! Building muscle mass burns up fat, and that's mostly what breasts are, but yours are still enormous!" She rants. "How do you explain that?!"

You really don't know how to reply. The small maid seems really mad at you.

"I bet you could eat all the sweets you want and all the fat would just go here and here.. It's unfair."

...Boy, this got really embarrassing.

"...I'm sorry, that was unprofessional." She then mumbles, clearly realizing she stepped out of line, and presenting you with a selection of clothes. the fact that they're all rather... provocative is either a genuine attempt to help your meeting of tonight or a further accusation, but you have to admit that they are quite pretty, especially considering that Miriam has been fixing them while you were talking. That girl has some talent as a tailor.

Classier.

You're used at wearing some clothes, during formal occasions, that would otherwise be considered pretty silly or outlandish, from your past as royalty yourself. But this one is really... you wonder if Millian is trying to prank you, but that seems unlikely.

They had this in stock somewhere, which means that someone wore it. You have to wonder if this was Amata's.
Probably, because it is a bit too short for you, and you guess it must correspond to Amata being a bit smaller than you in both height and depth.

"Millian... I... I don't know what to say." You admit at the maid. "You're right. It is not fair."

She looks up to you from her work on your dress, clearly surprised.

"I can't do anything about it. But I don't want you to be angry at me."

"I'm..." She sobs.

"Listen, listen." You pat her head. "We're a team, right? We need to make a good impression on these Lunars that will come tonight. The future of Tianna could depend on it."

She nods.

"And... we're friends, right?"

"We... are?" She asks, eyes shining.

"Why not? You don't want me?"

"...It's not that, it's... that..."

"What?" You smile. "Who said that an Exalted and a Mortal can't be friends."

She sniffs one last time and slowly nod, finishing the needlework on your dress.
She made the frontal cloth a bit wider and longer by applying a golden border, to account for the difference of size between you and (you presume) Amata. You try moving around in it a bit. As hilariously impractical as it looks, the outfit somehow manages to work and stay in place despite all the common sense of this world (which, admittedly, isn't much). It's either magical, or so very well-made it might as well be.

It still leaves you basically in full view when looked-at by a large variety of angles, but you realize you aren't bothered by it much. It's like the slowly-dawning realization that your physical appearance has been vastly improved by your Exaltation has left you with much less, if anything, to be ashamed of.

Quick question while you're out. Can we stack soak charms? Like, if we get a scene-long one, would we be able to use it and our current one to soak two damage, or would it just be one our the other?

If it's the latter, rather than the former, we should pick up some kind of parry charm to go with Solar Hero Style once we pick up the scene-long one.

Ok OP, we're keeping the maid in addition to the princess. You always need a good tailor and Millian's too cute to leave moping around Amata's castle when we leave. Additionally, having a named low level NPC on the castle staff screams conveniently placed Sidereal to me, so on the off chance that's a thing I'd like to keep a close eye on her. For reasons.

Oh noes!
>>
>>30524269
But I want to do ruler stuff occasionally. It can be fun! Like Aspiring Emperor Quest, but with exalted.
>>
(Sorry for the holdup, I'm back now.)

(continuing)

Furthermore, following Millian's suggestion, you go and stand in front of the dressing room's mirror.

You have to admit she's right. You have a hard time recognizing yourself.

You're not sure you're actually taller compared to before you exalted, but it certainly seems that way. The figure that looks back at you from the mirror is a lot more imposing than you remembered. Her shoulders are quite broad, the curves perfect and vastly generous, and even the skin and hair look shinier, though you can imagine that being Milliam's doing, since she combed you, and applied some subtle make-up and oil, while dressing you.

Speaking of the dress, NOW that you see yourself, you DO feel embarrassed, and even a bit guilty.

Still, you try and fight back both feelings as they surface. Tonight you've got to win new allies, or at least avoid making new enemies, at any cost, and using any weapon in your arsenal.

"What now?" Asks Milliam.

>Go and meet someone (who?)
>Rest, wait for sunset
>Go downtown
>Other?
>>
>>30523992
Well yes. We report to the queen's bechamber on official visits whenever we're in town as a gesture of respect and deference.

Also because we like boinking her, but to the people there it'll look like a recognition of her authority.
>>
>>30524309
>Go and meet someone (who?)
Any local gods around?
>>30524319
...how many motes are we spending on charms to make them believe that?
>>
>>30524155
Vassal implies we've conquered her or otherwise brought her to heel. I'm not remotely interested in doing this. I'm far more interested in having her as an unshakeable ally.

Who we also bone.
>>
>>30524296
Occasionally is fine, but I don't really want to do a siege based quest where all we're really doing is hyper focussing on resource management while progressively stronger enemies digest throu pawn at us. I want some conquest to acquire more resources and see more of this world, and honestly Amata's goipt this ruling thing in hand, so I'm fine doing the big and dangerous stuff while she sweats the details.
>>
>>30524309
>Go and meet Samiel. We need some practice in using this outfit effectively.
>>
>>30524309

What could possible go wrong
>>
>>30524345
We do recognize her authority. While we're in her territory.

Outside of her territory, we're the boss-lady.
>>
>>30524214
"Let's save our friend's kingdom from getting taken from her in order to take away her authority."
That's literally what you're saying.
>>
>>30524348
but what if we conquer her in bed? More seriously, being a vassal only requires her to pledge loyalty, not that we force her to do so.
>>
>>30524309

Perhaps we should avoid going downtown until all we can sort out all this nasty Anathema talk.

>Go and meet Samiel.

See if it as any effect on him.
>>
>>30524374
I think I said it wrong. I meant that a vassal means that she's beneath us, and I don't want her to be beneath us, OR take away her authority.
>>
>>30524309
>"What now?"

Now we return the favor and help give Millian a make over for this evening. Even if she isn't at the meeting she should know that at least one other person knows how beautiful she really is.

I don't know about you guys but the plan taking shape in my head is something like this.

>Get some kind of positive relations with the Lunars.
>Cockblock the abyssals.
>Fuck up the nearby Lintha base and purge the city of informants.
>Try to form a Federation or union between the four lunar tribes or whatever and Tianna.
> Work on developing a Navy.
>Fuck up the Lintha main base.
>Take over the pirate hide out. They either join or die.
>Build up Tianna, port, markets and shipyard
> Use our large navy to direct nearby shipping to Tianna who will act as a free port or have them pay a security tax for escort. And escort them on their shipping lane as long as they are in our waters.
>make money
>Use said money to develop Tianna and the Lunar holdings.
>Fuck up the Abyssals for good on our fair island.
> Rumage to the First Age stockpiles and see what we have.
> Start up a Academy for Irene to teach and to start getting a steady artificer supply for technomagic.
>Boost our navy, farms and mines with technomagic.
>Explore, Expand, Exploit, Exterminate.

With us as the kingmaker, promoter and troubleshooter. We shall have social development, intrigue and adventure all in one pack.
>>
>>30524412
>>30524388
Not to be rude, but are you two different people?
>>
>>30524309
>Go and meet someone (who?)

Let's go see Irene and see about dressing her up for this evening,
>>
>>30524430
Nah, more direct rule.
>>
>>30524430
Insufficient Priestess-Queen.
>>
>>30524394
Making her beneath us, by its very nature, takes away her authority. She is currently an absolute monarch. To give her a boss would remove tons of her authority.

We should have her as an ally instead. It would be far more palatable. If she later tries to make us an empress over our web of allies, that's fine, because it's voluntary. But we should NEVER suggest that to her because it's literally saying, 'Hey, I think I should be your boss, instead of you having your current level of authority.'
>>
>>30524431
No, but my fumbling fingers put out a couple more spelling errors than even I can stomach. Hence the deleted post.
>>
>>30524430
sounds like a good plan, I'll forgive the lack of developing our harem in that list too
>>
>>30524472
I know it does. Which is why I don't WANT her to be beneath us!

The only reason I mentioned it was as a definition of a vassal.
>>
>>30524445
Once we get quality of life and prosperity for the people, power for Tianna and strength for the Lunars, they can basically elect us as head of state of said federation. I would rather not since a head of state cannot be seen having adventure or else ambush and such. And even as a Solar such a thing will happen.

As a Shadow player however we can have adventures, like being the leader on clearing out the pirates, or making deals or such.

We get the fun and awesome stuff, and let Amata deal with the paperwork
>>
>>30524385
The fun thing about lesbians is nobody has to do any conquering for everyone to have a great time.

Although from what's been described so far Maka likes playing sub and likes it when her partner gets rough.

>powersub Solar quest
100% on board with this.

Also, is it just me, or should we fuck the Unconquered Sun himself? That's a thing we should be trying to do, right? Having the almighty's godblooded child as his high priestess?
>>
>>30524555
yeah, no.
>>
>>30524309
The general idea is to prepare for talks, so we should meet all the dragon blooded that are going to be there in a meeting.

The quickest way would be to send messages to Amata and Irene to meet in a stateroom or something, while personally going to find Samiel.

And we might as well take the scenic route.
>>
>>30524555
No.
>>
>>30524555

Man, if we can manage that, I would be on board for that. I don't even know where to begin there, though. That would probably require a pretty beastly prayer roll.

>>
>>30524038

I would opt for this in the future when we'll decide to go back to our kingdom. Abandoning all the friend would be bad and moving an island near our desert would be good for both kingdoms and our friendship with the queen.

>>
>>30525159

I thought moving locations around was a sidereal thing
>>
>>30525314
For a Solar to move it they'd have to move it physically. As in push the island through the ocean until it's where the Solar wants it. The Sidereal would have it recategorized under Fate's operating system and it would be replaced to where they want it by the methods that run the universe.

You're not sure what to do next, since you feel quite ready for tonight's meeting. However, you guess you could try and go and meet Samiel and ask for his opinion.

You head out to the castle courtyard, where he is drilling the troops. About fifty soldiers are scattered around, practicing blows and parries in groups of two, with him walking through the sparring couples, at times stopping them to give advice or instructions.

You see him berate a soldier for missing an opportunity to strike, when the entire courtyard drops dead silent.

He slowly walks up to you, while you register the fact that everyone is looking at you. Looks like this dress is super effective.

"...Maka." He says, trying not to look at you directly, a note of anger mixed with confusion in his voice. "What the hell are you doing?"

"...I wanted to come and see you."

He looks left and right frantically "...well... thank you for that, but..."

"What? Am I troubling you?" You ask.

"...Yes. You're distracting everyone. They're training." He points his sword at the soldiers. "HEY! GET BACK TO WORK THIS INSTANT!"

"...I'm sorry, I just wanted to see if this dress was effective."

"...That's not a 'dress' any more than a very short towel is. Effective at what? If it's distracting people, it's pretty effective I'd say."

"...Pretty much, yes. It's for tonight's meeting with the Lunars. Will you be there?"

He shrugs, still not looking directly at you. "OF COURSE I will. A lot of people will, including a lot of armed forces just in case things go WAY south."

You're distracted for a moment by a thought: in the Western Islands, "south" is Lintha territory. talking about "things going way south" suddenly has an entirely new depth.
>>
>>30525314
It is. A Solar would needed Solar Circle Sorcery for something like that.
>>
"If they're Lunar Exalted, I don't know how much mortal soldiers will do, even if they're well-trained."

"There will be dragon-blooded too. Everything we can muster." He explains.

"...Well, you mean you, Irene and Amata?"

"What? No. I mean, yes, but not just us." He manages to look up to you and actually look at your face. "...Did you think there were just the three of us?"

"Well... I only know of you three."

"Ours is the only consistent bloodline, but there is some dragon's blood scattered among the population. Every now and then someone Exalts, and they usually accept to work for the government in some way. I think there are about ten Dragon-Blooded, including us three, in Tianna. That we know of, some might not make themselves known."

"...I see."

"...I have to get back to training now. If you want to see me, try and do it when I'm not in the middle of important duties, please." He signs, finally averting his gaze.

>Ask more about armed forces.
>Ask more about Dragon-Blooded.

>>
>>30525360
Well, considering they might fight Lunars or with me at their side, they better get used to this little distraction. If they cant concentrate fighting with this, they will most likely have trouble when things are worse.

Say how about a mock fight. I take half, you take half. One half has to fight alongside this - gesture to the dress- while the other one against it.

If that wont cure them, nothing will. Nothing serious, I promise not to break anything. Provided they can do the same - i will have a lot of trouble if i get this dress ruined.

You say goodbye to the flustered Samiel and go to Irene's location: the northwestern tower of the castle - as equally-flustered soldiers tell you.

There, you find her busy mounting another of her contraptions. This one looks very similar, maybe identical, to the others you've seen - you wonder how many she has. Pieces and parts are scattered all over the ground, together with charts and diagrams.

"Oh, Maka." She glances up from her work to look at you, then back down, then makes a very slow double-take as she looks back up. "Uh, nice dress. Where did you find that?"

"Oh, Millian dug it out from somewhere." You reply. You slowly realize that she's working on that device sitting on the ground, which means that from that angle she can see absolutely everything.

She smiles politely. "I'm sure it'll make a big impression." And then back at her work. "...do you need something?" She asks.

>Ask her about fortifications.

"How's the siegework coming along?" You ask her.

"Pretty nice." She wipes some sweat off her forehead and grabs a very small screwdriver, to finish to tie together a very small metallic plate to a blocky assembly in what must be the inner workings of the device. "We're at the maximum readiness Tianna has ever had."

"Oh?" you ask.

"One class-4 concussive essence cannon on each castle tower, two class-3 on each battlement on the outer walls plus two extra class-4 at the city gates. One Lightning Ballista in the main city square, one at the castle entrance. Some stuff in reserve." She pauses. "...It's mostly an empty show of strength, but I hope no one will be stupid enough to call our bluff."

You frown. You don't like the sound of that. "What do you mean?"

"Well, remember when I explained you how essence-discharge weapons work? They need power sources. Either cartridges, or hearthstones, or people with Awakened Essence."

You nod.

"We have a limited about of cartridges, and Tianna's entire panoply is just three hearthstones. Even though we have people who are trained in the use of Essence, Like I said earlier, it's a very inefficient way of using it."

"I see." You glance out of the tower, at what the arc of fire of the cannon might be. It could be aimed just about anywhere from here.

"So, we can put out a lot of firepower in the first minutes of the fight, but can't really keep it up. At all."

>Ask her about manses and hearthstones.

Manses are giant palace-fortresses built on top of intersecting leylines, and hearthstones are gems produced at the manse to transmit the power long-range to the holder or to something like an essence cannon it's slotted in. Honestly, they're lucky to have the three.

"I was thinking... do you have any artifacts that I could use?"

"Didn't you already decide that you didn't feel like using guns? Changed your mind?" She asks, gently screwing the main barrel back on the assembly.

"I was thinking about something like armored gauntlets, actually."

"Well, we have as many of those as you want. But as for the artifact version... I don't know if we have any, actually." She explains. "Tianna is quite short on Jade, and we use most of what we can find to make essence cartridges and spare parts for our First Age weapon stock."

"A weapon stock that didn't include conventional weapons?" You ask, surprised. Now that you think about it, Amata was the only one with an obviously magical weapon: a blue jade daiklave. Other than Irene's essence discharge weapons and her armor, you can't remember seeing any other "conventional" artifact. Maybe Samiel's necklace, thinking about it, but no actual weapons. Even he used a conventional sword against Fleurdelis - and it shattered. Q.E.D.

"Don't ask me why. Maybe it was hidden and forgotten, or maybe someone took away all the easy-to-use stuff but left behind the weapons he didn't know how to maintain or repair."

"Could have scrapped them for parts?" You wonder.

"Maybe they didn't have time? I don't know, it's all theory. We don't really know where these weapons come from. We can give you a set of normal armored gauntlets and boots. They... wouldn't fit much with that dress, but they'd do their job in battle." She explains. "With some time, we could commission to the weaponsmiths in town a custom-made pair of gauntlets and boots in the look and style you want. Not an artifact, but being custom-made accounting for an Exalted's strength and endurance would still mean that they get an edge over conventional stuff."

>Ask her for armored gauntlets
>Ask her for armored boots
>Ask her for both gauntlets and boots

Combined with

>Commission.
>Don't commission.
>>
>>30526492
>Say her you're alright for now
Won't fit our outfit

>Commission.
If we can make them look awesome

On the artifact front, do we have any first-age memories on where our tomb is?
>>
>>30526492
>Ask her for both gauntlets and boots
>Commission

Definitely this. Something sleek and awesome looking. Sure, they might not be artifact but still. We don't need them with this dress, and to be honest, it'd kind of get in the way of our... "look." But for later, definitely.
>>
>>30526492
>Say her you're alright for now
No significant advantage for either, it seems. Lets stick to barehanded and look into the missing artifacts later, on our own time.
>>
>>30526492

Priority on gauntlets
>Commission
>>
>>30526541
Oh. Wait. I thought we were deciding for later.

Going with this, instead.

>>30526539

This.

Also seeing how the thread is going to die soon i'm going to close it here with a short explanation on a new game mechanic: XP.

From now on Maka gains XP with every thread.
2 XP just for playing through the thread, and 1 extra xp for every "accomplishment". an Accomplishment is just basically "any plot-relevant thing Maka did". Each thread should ideally average 1-3 accomplishments.
I will also hand out one bonus XP per thread if you do a thing that I liked.

So today:

[2 XP: base]
[1 XP: prepared for diplomatic meeting]
[1 bonus XP: cheered up Milliam]

[Current total: 4 XP]

Tomorrow's thread will also contain details on how to spend them!

As usual, if you enjoyed, archive the thread.

>Say her you're alright for now
If we're not going to wear them now, then we might as well wait for the good stuff, i.e.:
>Commission
>>

what time tomorrow?
>>
>>30526616
Fuck yeah. Thanks for the thread.
>>
>>30526616
Thanks for running! Looking forward to next time!

>>30526616

You are quite awesome, Exaltedfag. I must say, I never played the system, but you picked my interest in it and I really enjoy your quest. Good, clever writing...yeah. Thanks.
>>
>>30526492
>Say her you're alright for now
We're not going to put them on for tonight's meeting, and won't have time to put them on if violence does break out.

>Commission.
We definitely need some sooner rather than later, though. I'm thinking boots that end around the upper thigh and gauntlets that go almost to the shoulder.
>>
>>30526616
>The End (for the day) is Now!
Noooooooo!

Good show OP. Quick question before I head out, is it "Millian" or "Milliam"?
>>
>>30526616
Before you go, can I get an answer on that question about soak-stacking? If Maka has a scene-long soak effect and uses an instant soak effect, can she soak two points of damage that way?
>>
People, archive this thread!
>>
>>30526873
...go right ahead, dude.
>>
>>30526873
Remember to look up the tags from previous threads.
>>
>>30526640
Not sure, but you can check the Quest Runner Directory on twitter or my quest twitter @exaltedfag (since people requested it). Don't worry, it's only used for the quest. No silly blogging here!

>>30526711
It's Millian. I tend to do a lot of typos and mistakes because I almost never pre-write stuff, since i don't want to railroad the flow of the story and want to keep it as free as possible. So I type fast and loose. Plus english is not my first language so forgive me for any silly mistakes i might make.

>>30526737
You can stack a scenelong to an instant but you can't stack two instants.

This means that the maximum amount of damage that could be ever delivered under this system is 3. 1 base, 1 for a scenelong in progress, and 1 for an instant on top of those. Not enough to drop in a single hit even the most fragile of Exalts, unarmored and with no soak.

You mentioned back in Thread 1 or something that there will be some Permanent charms. Can you use a Permanent Soak charm, a scene-long soak charm, and an instant soak charm to stop a Damage 3 attack in its tracks?

I always do! I figure that if a quest is good enough to keep my attention, it definitely deserves an upvote, at the very least.
>>
>>30526981
no such thing as a permanent soak charm. closest thing would be Ox-Body (extra HP).
>>
>>30524127
If you want better you can always go godblooded. Solar half caste can more or less go toe to toe with DB. Granted, such a strategy would work much better if we were male, but I suppose we could find some charm or SCIENCE! to get around that.
>>
>>30527239
Low tier DB mind you.
>>
>>30527239
we could ask the Lunars for some beastmen
>>
>>30527239
>>30527281
Or some sorcery.

We are going to learn or get that anyway since its to useful not to get so with some sorcery we could manage to have ourselves able to spam some godblooded. but even if we were male you need kind of a generation until they are fully matured. As a woman we wait for sorcery to get male parts and then a generation.

Would be easier to get the dragon blooded on a eugenics program... I mean with some charms, sorcery and artifacts we could get a hundred or so in one or two generations.
>>
>>30527281
True, but having some Solar Half Castes would be useful for leading our cult, er religion. Side note: doesn't said religion contain a clause or two that might make Queeny uncomfortable? Something about Solars being the rightful rulers of creation.

>>30527383
Maybe some sorcery to turn adults into Half Castes? Would that work?
>>
>>30527455
>doesn't said religion contain a clause or two that might make Queeny uncomfortable?
why would it. We'd be creating the cult from the grund up
>>
>>30527455
are Half Castes really that much better than normal enlightened mortals with TMAs?
>>
>>30527566
I kinda assumed we'd be using the Cult of the Illuminated actually.
>>
>>30527598
They can use certain solar charms. Plus, we're religious, those with the Unconquered Sun's blessing, even at second hand are destined for great things.
>>
>>30527602
aren't those guys controlled by Sids or something? I'd prefer if we made our own Cult.

>>30527644
>They can use certain solar charms
I've heard that lots of people don't like that and think houserule them to use solar-themed spirit charms
>>
>>30527598
Attribute Spread for Heroic Mortals/goodblooded: 6/4/3
Half Caste: 6/5/4
>>30527667
Gold Faction Side's to help out and provide support for the Exalted Solars.
>>
>>30527383
Having both male and female parts is AMAZINGLY advantageous for DBs.
>>
>>30527667
>I've heard that lots of people don't like that and think houserule them to use solar-themed spirit charms
Eh, that's kinda lame. Also, why shouldn't the Solar be the proper rulers of creation? They did a better job of it than the DB did while said Solars were insane.
>>
>>30527768
If we go by "who did the best job", then the Dragon Kings should rule creation
>>
>>30527455
We can hash it out to not interfere with her. Heck we can have a separation of church and state. It seems she has it since they are not Immaculate

>>30527455
I have to do some research on that but that would be Shaping.

Still if we want to go poping children and leaving people pregnant we would need i think some shaping sorcery to get the necessary equipment + a Path of Nature or some such amped up to 11 for fertility. This way we could make sure each copulation yields results so we don't have to do repeat actions on the same unit.

Yes its nice and all but with this we could have enough faithful women of our cult pregnant with future priests, sorcerers, engineers and such of our order.

Not to mention that with a similar combo we could work it on the dragon blooded.
>>
>>30527808
Fair point. Unfortunately, they're mostly feral at this point, those that haven't been genocided anyway. They're in no shape to rule creation, and never will be again.
>>
>>30527768
>Eh, that's kinda lame.
mortals having better charms than most Exalted would be even lamer.
>>
>>30527732
Advantageous for a society. Not the same as acceptable for personal tastes of the ones that are operating now. They do still have some modicum of normalcy, and probably want to keep it.
>>
>>30527722
>Attribute Spread for Heroic Mortals/goodblooded: 6/4/3
>Half Caste: 6/5/4
so, not even remotely good enough to justify the additional work, with both getting 6 in their primary category
>>
>>30527883
Not when they can't get perfects or charms higher than essence 3. High level Solar Half Castes can fight low to mid level DBs, which is as it should be.
>>
>>30527889
I'm just shocked they made it through the entire First Age without being Craft (Genesis)ed into being hermaphroditic.
>>
>>30527602
>Cult of the Illuminated
That makes Solars into Sidereal sock puppets. We should make our own religion.
>>
>>30527842
So... Are you suggesting we mutate ourselves into a heavenly dickgirl? Or that we shapeshift into a man periodically to knock bitches up?
>>
>>30527956
Solar charms are awesome though. That's the real kicker.
>>30527967
There was no need for it though. Same reason why the Solar never found a way to mass produce Half Castes. Actually, someone probably did do that once the war started, in an attempt to create a counterbalance to the Dragonblooded.
>>
>>30528018
periodically knock bitches up.
>>
>>30528018
Rather have the latter than the former actually.
Moonlighting as a white haired bishonen doesn't sound half-bad.
>>
>>30527959
does the "you can't go over Essence 3 while staying a mortal" not apply to Half Castes?

Also, they can use certain Solar Charms, I really don't think they'd get Perfects

>>30528022
Solars tried to find alternatives for DBs a lot, for example with automatons. They never considered Half Castes, which probably means they wouldn't work.
>>
Can someone tell me in which book I can find more about Half Castes?
>>
>>30528103
Scroll of Heroes.

They're overpowered because they get, among other things, better Excellencies than Dragonblooded do. They get free access to Solar charms of up to their Essence, which maxes out at 3.
>>
>>30528075
>Also, they can use certain Solar Charms, I really don't think they'd get Perfects
They don't that was my point
>>30528131
They're the sons and daughters of solars, the most overpowered think in the setting, what did you expect?
>>
>>30528057
>>30528059
Well, I would personally like to become a heavenly dickgirl, but I can understand why a lot of people wouldn't be on board for that.
>>
>>30528075
>Solars tried to find alternatives for DBs a lot, for example with automatons. They never considered Half Castes, which probably means they wouldn't work.
Wouldn't work well enough in the first age isn't remotely the same thing as wouldn't work well enough now.
>>
>>30528166
>They're the sons and daughters of solars, the most overpowered think in the setting, what did you expect?
Something less powerful than an actual exalt. More powerful than an enlightened mortal, but less powerful than actual fucking exalts.
>>
>>30528195
I thought they failed late game against DB.
>>
>>30528166
>They're the sons and daughters of solars, the most overpowered think in the setting, what did you expect?
They're also humans, a race that was created to be as weak as possible and has a soul structure that makes using Essence incredibly hard. I'd expect the accidental side effect of another Exaltion to be weaker that an actual Exaltion
>>
>>30528022
Kind of hard to wait a generation for Half Castes to mature when untold millions of DBs swarm about to kill you directed by the Siderals. Better use Nuke equivalents and have a stopgap in automatons to hold them in position.

Now if we have time however Half Castes are better than automatons since we do not have the infrastructure and resources for automatons.

Plus i'd rather use our godblooded and Half Castes as multipliers than shock troopers. Engineers, Sorcerers, Priests, Agents, Exquisite Merchants the like.
>>
>>30528218
An Essence 3 solar half-caste is more powerful than an Essence 3 db.

That is broken and wrong.
>>
>>30528326
It's not broken by the fact that A half-cast can only have 3 Essence.

That's the whole fucking point.
>>
>>30528302
I meant trying to convert Humans into half castes or something insane like that. They were after all crazy at that point. Alternatively, those few Solars who were not locked up probably tried it.
>>30528326
Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't an essence 3 Half Caste need more XP than the DB to get to that level?
>>
>>30528354
...how often do you think Exalts actually exceed Essence 3? And a half-caste shouldn't be out-performing an actual exalt of equal essence PERIOD. That's the entire point of being actually exalted - you are a step above even the best non-exalted mortals. Solar half-castes throws that idea completely out the window.
>>
>>30528469
Doesn't a solar need to be at least essence four to have the kid in the first place, anyway? Also, why are you complaining about balance in a system we aren't using?
>>
>>30528469
Pretty sure a kid of the Unconquered Sun should wreck an average DB's shit. There are always exceptions my friend.
>>
>>30528075
Actually, they did. Page 125, Scroll of Heroes. It apparently worked somewhat. It also pissed off the DB somewhat which helped lead to a certain event.
>>
>>30528592
They're not a kid of the UCS, they're the kid of an exalt. A non-exalted mortal human out-performing real exalts in their own fields of focus.

That's fucked up.
>>
Aren't they removing Half Castes in e3 or something?
>>
>>30528751
The kid of the UCS and some random broad would be a GoodBlooded. Still >>30528556 has a point. What matters for the purposes of this discussion is what they get in term of this system.
>>
>>30528812
I hope it just follows Exalted fluff, where
Solar>Sids and Lunars>Terrestials>empowered mortals
as it should be
>>
>>30528781
Of course they are. After all, the entire point of Celestial vs Terrestrial exaltations was that Terrestrials had hereditary power, and Celestials didn't. Letting part of the power of a Celestial exaltation be hereditary for some reason is just dumb.
>>
>>30528878
I hope that the child of a Celestial is just a mortal. Maybe with a slightly higher chance of an Enlightened Essence mutation or whatever, due to gestating in an essence-rich body, but just a mortal.
>>
>>30528897
Got a quote? I quite like the Half Castes
>>
>>30528878
I'm expecting them to have 4 HP to the Heroic Mortal's 3, and Exalts' 5. Plus the ability to have charms reflective of their parentage.
>>
>>30528781
Nope. They are apparently different though.
