You are ALICE. You were once a magical girl, but have now ended up having to hunt down your former comrades. As a member of the Magical Girl Hunter Bureau, it is your job to defend humanity from the Magical Menace!

Suffice to say, after having a few weeks of rather eventful vacation time, you're rather itching to get back to work. Honestly, anything to distract you from Egan's flirting with Leo. While you didn't have anything against them dating, you would have appreciated it Egan tried to act a bit more subtly, especially since you were sitting in the same shuttle as they were.

Plus, having to explain to Carol about the concept of dating was just awkward. You didn't exactly have a lot of experience in that field, after all.

Finally, the shuttle docks with the Freedom Star, allowing you to finally get some distance from Egan and Leo and stretch your legs.

You wander out of the hangar with Carol in tow, and you eventually find yourself in the main recreation lounge. There, you see four of your fellow squad leads. There was Dundee, your resident Aussie Invader hunter, Reginald, the stereotypical Brit explorer/hunter type, Lucy, your super sexy Chinese spy, and Ivan, the quiet and intimidating Russian guy.

"HI EVERYBODY!" Carl says loudly

"Hey guys, I don't believe you met Carol yet." You say, grinning and pushing Carol forward. "Everybody, this is Carol. My daughter."

"Your daughter?" Lucy blinks, confused. "I thought she was supposed to be Nemesis?"

Oh, so you guess they were told about that already.

"H-how does that even work...?" Dundee scratches his head curiously.

"Don't think about it." Reginald harumphs. "The mere thought of Alice reproducing and passing on her genes gives me the shivers."

"Yeah, screw you too, Reginald." You grin.

Ivan remains silent like always.

"Anyways, yeah, as you can see she's pretty chill and absurdly cute for a sentient bioweapon." You say, patting Carol's head. "Be nice to her. Or she'll eat you."

"Yeah! I'll eat you!" Carol nods, doing her sharktooth prank again, causing everybody but Lucy and Ivan to recoil.

"Interesting." Lucy raises an eyebrow. "I heard things but... seeing it in person is something else entirely."

"I know, right?" You grin.

"I also heard that Leo and Egan are dating now?" She asks.

GODDAMNIT HOW THE FUCK DID SHE KNOW!? She's always like this!

"Huh, why are you so interested in it?" You ask.

"No reason." Lucy says quickly before turning away. "I was just curious."

"So then, how exactly does Carol fit into our organization then?" Reginald pipes in. "Is she higher ranking than us? Just a squad member?"

"I sort of specialist, I suppose." You shrug. "But she's definitely part of my squad. That's for sure. I doubt she'd follow anybody other than me."

Oh right, Australia got hit pretty hard when the Invaders first started to come down. Dundee had been one of the first to get thrown into meat grinder, which was why he was not the Bureau's de facto anti-Invader specialist.

"Besides, if she does anything, she's got to answer to ME." You assure him. "Nothing's going to happen.'

"Anyways, I better go check in with Bruttenholm. I'll catch you guys later." You say. "Say goodbye to everyone, Carol."

"Bye!" Carol says as she waves to your fellow squad leads.

You guide Carol out of the room before turning around and giving Dundee the finger as you leave. No sense in making a bad example for Carol, after all. Dundee just shakes his head.

In no time, you're back at Bruttenholm's office. The old man sitting at his desk with his usual bemused expression.

"Ah, Alice! Had a good vacation?"

"More or less." You shrug.

"Ah, and Carol, I hope you're doing well?"

"Yup!" Carol nods.

"Excellent." Bruttenholm smiles. "I'm sure you'll be glad to know that we've already got missions ready for you."

"About time." You sigh.

"Indeed." Bruttenholm then hands you a folder.

"What's this?" You say as you open it up. It looks like pictures of some rich looking douchebag and an island.

"A current concern of ours." Bruttenholm says, his smile disappearing. "This gentleman here is Luis Nyapaver. He owns a multibillion dollar tech firm and has some rather extreme beliefs."

"And I assume these beliefs involve magic?"

"Correct." Bruttenholm nods. "He's recently purchased a private island in the Pacific. Nothing TOO unusual for men at his level of wealth, but it's other factors that have us concerned."

You flip through more pages and see satellite imaging of the island. You can see lots of little red circles, and what looks like a lot of heavy construction going on.

(cont)
>>
>>30601109

"As you see there, he's building up some rather massive infrastructure. We also know that shell corporations of his have funneled money to known or suspected covens, but we've never been able to link him directly to those transfers."

"Great, a rich sympathizer. Just what we need." You roll your eyes.

"Indeed. We fear that Mr. Nyapaver here intends to use this island as a sort of Magical Girl sanctuary."

"And the Council doesn't want some rogue state teeming with Magical Girls." You sigh.

"Which is where we come in." Bruttenholm continues. "A supply freighter to the island is being loaded in Shanghai. We will be intercepting it and inspecting it for any contraband."

"Okay, smash and grab. I can do that." You nod.

"Squads 3, 6, and 9 will be participating as well."

That mean Reginald, Lucy, and Ivan were coming with you. Wonderful.

"We just need to handle mission roles."

>>
>>30601137
>>Assault the ship.
Would our character ever choose something that didn't let her beat stuff up?

While the MGs have mostly gone evil, we've seen in multiple cases that it's really the animals that are evil- the MGs themselves are often quite sympathetic characters. Maybe getting a resort for them isn't such a horrible idea (since they won't be attacking civilian populations if they're on some island)
Definitely needs to be managed though, can't let a hostile rouge state be sitting there.
>>
>>30601306
While we are hotheaded and reckless to the extremely and all around bad girl, we are also extremely tactical and have very good instincts. This smells like a trap a mile away, so we need to get the drop on any "surprise" MGs.

"Any local support?"

"The Chinese government as agreed to assist us. Their navy will intercept and quarantine the ship."

"I see." You nod.

"Will you be bringing Carol along, then? This would be an excellent time to give her some experience. Plus, she won't be seen by the public out at sea."

"Yeah! I wanna see what a Magical Girl tastes like!" Carol says, smiling with her shark teeth.

"Carol, you shouldn't be so enthusiastic about eating people." You sigh.

"Sorry..."

And once again, the moment you get on the Freedom Star, you have to leave again. Sighing at your lot in life, you gear up and reunite with your squad, who all seem happy and refreshed from their respective vacations. You see Leo is there as well, whipping everybody back into shape.

"Mission already?" Leo blinks when he sees you arrive.

"Business as usual." You say, stowing your coilgun away. You also make sure you have the circlebreaker fist and the Swiss on you as well.

You then introduce Carol to the rest of the squad. They've already been briefed on her true nature, so it doesn't come as too big a surprise to them. In fact, they all seem to really like her. Up until she pulls the sharktooth prank again, but that just makes them break out in laughter after the initial scare.

And once again, you're back on the good old Daedalus. It felt like a eternity since you were last on your assault carrier. It was pretty much your second home. Getting comfortable, you lean back in your chair as the Daedalus launches, disconnecting from the Freedom Star and dropping down to Earth.

Well, there wasn't much to do while in reentry.

"Hey, Leo, what are thoughts on Ega- GDDOAMNIT I MEAN THE MISSION!" You sputter, trying to recollect your thoughts.

Leo just cocks his head curiously before realizing what happened and laughs.

"Does it really bother you that much?"

"I asked about the mission, not Egan." You say sternly, trying to focus. "What's your opinion of it?"

"A real shit show." Leo sighs as he sets down the folder. "Isolated out at sea, forced into close quarters, that's just asking to get ripped up by an MG ambush. I don't envy the other teams at all."

"Yeah, it sounds it'll be rough if what our intel says is true." You nod.

"Smart of you to stick to reserve, though. That way we can get a handle on the situation."

"You make it sound I'm not smart at all."

"Well, it's usually me that does all the tactical thinking here, you know." Leo grins.

"Liar!" You laugh lightly as you punch Leo in the arm. "What do you think about Carol being involved in the mission?"

"Make or break, I guess. But, considering what she's capable of, she's the last thing we should be worrying about."

"You have a point." You nod.

"We're approaching the AO." The pilot announces. "Touching down in five."

The Daedalus begins to drop down until it lands on a roped off pad at Shanghai airport. Meanwhile, you see the three other assault carriers break off towards where the Chinese Navy has encircled the target.

"Squad 6 moving in." Lucy announces.

"Squad 9 moving in." Ivan speaks in a rare moment.

"Squad 3 in position." Reginald announces.

Well, all you can do now is wait.

"Oooooooh, this is an interesting place!" Carol says as she looks out the window at the airport proper. "Can we go outside? Please?"

"We're on mission, Carol. We have to stay in the Daedalus." You sigh.

"Aawwwwwwww." Carol pouts. "But you let me do what I wanted before!"

"Because we weren't on a mission that time." You shake your head. "There are rules to these things."

The irony of you lecturing somebody else about following rules on a mission suddenly hits you. Christ, did having a kid really change you that much?

"Fine! I'll go play with Leo then!" Carol pouts and stomps off.

Freaking kids. How were you supposed to handle them?

Sighing, you activate your screen so you can get a view on the operation. You hook into a camera feed from Reginald's assault carrier as it orbits the AO. You see Lucy and Ivan's assault carriers hovering over the freighter as their troops rope down. At the edges of the screen, you can see Chinese destroyers forming a defensive ring around the freighter.

The boats do not slow or change direction. Instead, you see an all to familiar bright flash. Reginald recognizes it too when you hear him yelling.

It was a magical transformation.

"Evasive maneuvers! Damnit start some bloody evasive maneuvers!"

The feed jerks as you see a crimson light shoot past. You've seen enough.

"Get us in the air! It's an ambush!" You yell to the pilot.

Your pilot nods and begins powering up the Daedalus' engines. The rest of your squad starts arming up.

"Reginald, what's the situation?" You yell.

"We're in a bit a bind, you see." Reginald says.

"Spare me the fucking British understatement and give it to me straight."

"We have five small boats with unknown number of hostiles firing at us. Mix of conventional and magical weaponry. I'm doing what I can but the other squads are sitting ducks!"

>>
>>30604159
"Move in." You say. "If they got reinforcements, then let them bring it. We got me and Carol."

"All right." Leo nods.

The Daedalus lifts off from the pad and speeds towards the battle at full speed. Looking ahead, you can see the assault carriers trying to fire at the boats, but they have to keep moving to keep from getting hit by the magical attacks being thrown up their way, preventing them from being too accurate. Meanwhile, the Chinese destroyers were doing their best, but they were designed to handle larger ships, not small speedboats. You then see a yellow beam slice across one of the destroyers, gouging a deep scar in its side.

The enemy boats were being smart about it, staying close to the destroyers so their guns couldn't depress enough to hit them, or staying close to the freighter to discourage them from firing at friendlies. Lucy and Ivan's squads were doing their best to fire at the attackers, but your realize that the Magical Girls were trying to sink the freighter. Once that happened your buddies would be sitting ducks.

Many of them have it worse. America gets by with huge inefficiencies by simply throwing away money until the job gets done anyway. Nobody else has that luxury.

Very few militaries are anywhere near as effective in reality as they are on paper and the few that are or were (Armenia, Israel, Rhodesia) got to be out of necessity for survival. France might be the only exception to the rule.

"Okay, Carol, it's time to show Mommy what you can do." You say, putting your hands on your shoulders. "Remember what you did when we went swimming?"

"Yeah!" Carol nods.

"I need you to do the same thing, except against that boat down there." You say, pointing to the boat attacking Reginald. "Can you do that?"

"Of course!" Carol nods rapidly.

She then leaps out of the Daedalus, much to everybody's shock, except for you. As she plummets to the water below, you can see her combat carapace already forming, and she dives in with a splash. You see a black shape beneath the water forward headed towards the boat. The Magical Girl standing on the boat is too busy looking up to notice Carol's approach. Suddenly, a black shape shoots out of the water, slams in the Magical Girl, and sends her tumbling into the water with a loud splash.

That's all you can afford to look at since you're already bearing down on your own targets. One of the boats is literally ripped to shreds by mass automatic fire. You see a Circle flashing before tumbling into the water, but you can't tell if the MG perished or not. Either way, she was out of the fight.

That left one more boat to handle. You take our your coilgun and take aim.

The crippled boat is not match for your combined firepower. It quickly disappears into a puff of smoke and oil. The MG that was riding it falls into the water, and is similarly blown apart by vengeful cannon fire from the destroyers.

Meanwhile, the last two boats keep speeding off in an attempt to escape. Like hell you're going to let them get away. The assault carriers are faster, and begin steadily catching up.

Wait a minute... have you seen this ship somewhere before...?
