>Maybe today Wrenloft will notice me :'(
You are awaken by a violent shake, delivered by a muddy boot. You sit up and wipe your eyes, and look up to see Riley's familiar grin. He has changed since you last saw him. He looks well rested, and clean shaven. His hair is cut and tied back, and he carries a small bundle of goods from in town.

"Wakey wakey, time to get the hell out of this shithole. Here, I came across some goodies, and thought I'd share." He tosses a small box to you. Shotshells, about twenty of them. "Got my guns all clean and pretty too, loaded them with jet. Got some boots for the girl, too." You look over to Pearl, who is struggling to fit into a pair of corsair boots that may be just slightly too large for her.

It seems Riley spent last night shaking the town down for all this. While it certainly is very useful, you aren't sure how to feel about his methods.

You take the shells and begin loading them into the rifle. The last time you tried to fire, it jammed, and so you should think about getting it cleaned sooner or later. In the meantime though, you'd like to leave this town quickly. Once you and Pearl are ready to go, you each start thinking of a plan. Riley suggests hopping aboard a ferry, having heard that one should be arriving this afternoon. Pearl is in favor of taking the idols all the way to shore, but you don't know where the mainland is in relation to here.

B) Ride the idols

>>30691671
After some convincing, you get Riley to agree that the idols would be the better choice, as they are likely just as fast as any ferry if not faster, and you won't have to wait around or deal with a crowd. Riley agrees and the three of you head into town to get something to eat before setting off. You try a different restaurant this time, and Riley pays with a few coins he claims to have found lying around. You don't question it.

The time finally comes to shove off, and Pearl hops on the guppy behind you. Riley suggests following the route of the ferry, though loosely so as not to attract too much attention. However, this route stop at a few other islands along the way. If you simply head toward the end, you can reach the mainland hopefully by midnight.

A) Follow the route and spend an extra day
B) Go straight, riding through the night

Instead of risking riding in the dark, you agree to Riley's proposal and follow the path of the ferry. You leave the port town behind and move from buoy to buoy which mark the safe path of the ferry.

You arrive at another port town and rest for the night on Riley's coin. Pearl is ecstatic over the soft down bed at the inn, and Riley is kind enough to have your rifle cleaned before you leave again.

Finally, nearly a month after being stranded on Pearl's island, you arrive at a mainland port. With some help from the locals, you fin out that you've completely crossed the Red Sea. The fastest way home would be a ship now, but that can wait until later. Pearl is starving, according to her own testimony, and Riley hopes to contact some locals about having some money wired.

You follow Riley through town. It's not a city, but it has many of the same comforts, including a sky polluted with smoke and filthy children bounding through streets littered with broken glass bottles. It's a full time job keeping Pearl from touching things out of curiosity. Riley leads you to a small optometrist office, which he enters boldly. Inside is a desk and a large, complex chair with an enormous array of mechanical attachments for determining exact specifications of the eye. Behind the desk is a rotund man with a bushy beard, reading a rag of a magazine. Riley approaches him and whispers, then shows off he patch on his sleeve. The large man gets out of his chair and ushers the three of you into a backroom.

Down a flight of stairs you find a large room full of felt covered tables and people in nice clothes, all drinking odd mixtures from strangely shaped glasses. Riley commands you to wait with Pearl while he talks to his contact. As you sit by the bar, Pearl seems curious about the man putting on a show as he mixes drinks. You have a few coins from Riley, which should be enough for something cheap.

Riley returns with a small satchel. As he walks you can hear coins jingling within. His face does not suggest a positive outcome to whatever conversation he just finished.

"I've got plenty of cash to last us. Also snagged us some ship passes back home, we just need to grease the ticketmaster's palm a bit and he'll fill them out for first class anytime we like. There's also something else I got." He reaches into the satchel and hands you a folded piece of paper. You open it to reveal some sort of shipping list, or part of one. It lists cargo in an odd way, 'mannequin (1) fair, brn, brn, #335'. You can't make heads or tails of the entries. You ask Riley what it means.

"People. Most of them scooped out of shipwrecks. I've run into that sort of operation before. These guys have been working the area we were sunk in. It's possible Donna is in there. If she is though, they won't give her up without a fight. You in?"

The three of you leave the smokey den of miscreants and go back to the surface. Riley points you to a firing range, while he makes some calls and sets up a room for the night. You take Pearl to the range, a small shop with a basement fortified with concrete. As you enter, the familiar scent of shell grease and wood finish hits you. You've spent many hours taking apart and cleaning rifles, and always these scents filled the air of the armory. You look around and see any number of antique and civilian grade firearms. None like yours, however, as normal citizens are not allowed military grade firepower. The man behind the counter snores lightly in a rocking chair as you enter. He is built like a brick house and has a great scar running across his face.

He nods and begins showing you a catalogue, but before you get into it, you hear Pearl making a commotion behind you.

You're unsure about what to do next, but there's no time to make a plan. Soon, a large man in a black suit emerges from the stairway. He has a rifle tucked under his arm, of a familiar and yet implacable design. He also has a generous splash of red on his left sleeve all the way up to his shoulder. He looks to Pearl and sees the pistol dangling loosely in he hand.

You pass your rifle to Pearl and tell her to swing the lever down and back. She does so with a bit of difficulty as you peek around the corner and wait for the next enemy to show. You figure out the correct way to hold the odd rifle, made purely of grey steel. The butt is thin and almost flimsy, and the barrel is short, clearly meant for closer range fire. Still, it'll have to do while you use it.

You squeeze the trigger. A bright light fills the room, blinding you for a brief moment. Your eyes adjust and you see pouring from the barrel of the rifle several thin and sharp tendrils of white lightning. They reach out and lash at the air, followed by low cracks that echo through the room. The man rolls behind one of the concrete support beams as the lighting lashes at him. The tendrils don't seem to focus very well at this range, and scatter at about a three foot diameter when they hit the concrete pillar. Before you know it, the sound of lightning is replaced by metallic clicking, and the rifle has ceased to emit it's charge.

Once the barrage ceases, you reemerge and fire, but the man is already behind cover. You listen closely, and think he may be reloading his weapon. You don't know for certain how much time this will take, but if it's long enough you might have a chance to close the distance.

The rifle is empty, and you make it obvious that you must reload by swinging the lever down dramatically. Just as you planned, he emerges from cover and takes aim at you. You step out and aim the small pistol at his head and squeeze the trigger. Empty.

Lightning rips through the air between you and lashes into your left arm, sending you to the ground. You cry out in pain. You hear four shots ring out, and as many balls of flame emerge from a doorway and smash into them. They hit the floor, writhing at first and then die. Riley pops out from behind the door, singed but uninjured.

"Gods almighty, I was stuck back there for nearly fifteen minutes. Thanks for saving my ass."

You explain the circumstances of that which occurred at the shop. Riley is impressed by Pearls quick uptake, and she blushes. The three of you step into the elevator, and notice that the operator is gone. Riley agrees that this is a bad sign. You decide that when the gates slide open, Riley will move right, and Pearl left. You will go:

The metal gates swing open and you move, quick as a rabbit. It's a good thing you do, for as soon as you are visible, four more men in suits open fire with rifles just the same as the ones Pearl has. It's starting to get annoying fighting these. You were never trained to combat people who could fire so fast without reloading. Still, there's nothing to do now but learn as you go.

You move left with Pearl, and duck behind the front desk. You can already hear Riley firing his pistols, but there's no sign that he's hit anything yet. You and Pearl take turns popping out and firing. You manage to hit two of them, but Pearl's skill isn't up to the task yet, and she must reload before she manages to hit anything. If you're to get out of this hotel before more men show up, one of you needs to get in closer.

You give Pearl simple instructions as to how to suppress the enemy until your safe behind cover. Things should work even better with her type of weapon. You prepare yourself mentally, then as Pearl stand and begins firing, you throw yourself over the desk and make a dash for the support beam. It's thin, but it should provide a good spot to finish the fight from. You make it just as Pearl is about to run out of shots, and quickly you dispatch the nearest enemy. Your shell hits him right in the stomach, cooking his belly like bacon. His comrade drops his weapon and tries to surrender.

You swing down the lever of your rifle and cook his head just before calling Pearl out. As Riley and Pearl come close, you hand Pearl the ammo from these men's rifles. She has trouble carrying it all, however, but comes up with a quick idea. She grabs one of their jackets and throws it on, seeing that they have specially made pockets for the ammunition that goes into these guns. It's quite large on her, to the point she must button the to button to ensure it does not fall down her slender shoulders.

It is now that you realize you're losing quite a bit of feeling in your arm. Much longer and you'll begin to suffer necrosis. You ask Riley about a place to get treatment.

"We probably don't want to go to a doctor, per se.I know a guy who can help you out. He'll do it pro-bono, too. Or he will or I'll shoot him." Something about the idea is sketchy, but it might be good to lay low until you leave town.

The three of you make your way out of the hotel and down the street. You walk for what feels like an hour before finally turning down a tight alley and finding an old metal door. Riley opens it up, casual as you could ever please and leads you into the back of a dentists office Riley sits you down on a crate while he goes to fetch the doctor. Pearl is fascinated by all the pictures of teeth, as well as the clay models. She plays with them while you resist screaming at the burning sensation in your shoulder. You can feel yourself sweating profusely, up until Riley returns with a balding man in glasses and a white apron.

"Got the sawbones. He's an old friend of the family. He's gonna knock you out and patch you up, good as new." Riley helps you into a chair before you have time to voice any concern. Soon the doctor has jabbed you full of two doses of something blue, and you feel yourself fading. Before you go under, you tell Pearl to make sure Riley doesn't dump you in a ditch. She laughs, but you don't.
>>
>>30702307
You regain your senses some time later. You're still in the operating chair, but now there is something off. You look around the room. It's dark, probably night time. The room has no source of light other than the front of the office, and all is quiet. You feel wide awake, despite being drugged a few hours ago. You stand up out of the chair and check yourself. The rifle is fine, you feel quite limber. Your left arm is nowhere to be seen however. It takes a few moments for this to sink in, and likely the only reason you haven't fainted is the trace of drugs still in your system. You look away and close your eyes, then look back, as if the missing limb would prove to merely be an apparition. Sadly, it does not, and when you check it's still gone.

"I didn't tell him to do it! It was infected! There was no time! It was all happening so fast! And Pearl didn't stop him either!" You explain that Pearl doesn't know what a fork is, let alone a bonesaw. "Okay, right right but it's not all bad! You're healthy and you've still got one arm to commit sin with right!? Pearl is there, messily eating cookies on a couch across from the dentist, who still sits in his bloody apron. You shoot him an ornery look, and he slouches under the pressure. You sit next to Pearl, who takes an immediate liking to your bandaged stump.

You allow Pearl to lightly poke the stump. She giggles and makes squishing noises. Thankfully, the drugs still numb the pain, and so all you feel is a dull throb. You wait there, with Pearl in your lap until the front door of the office opens, setting off a bell. Riley and the doctor go to see who it is. When they return, Riley grins and clears off the coffee table. The doctor and a new woman, covered in soot and zipped up tight in a pair of shop coveralls, place three boxes on the table. One is large, and the other two are notably smaller. You ask Riley what's in them.

"It's the future. Funded by the boss, made from the best steel and powered by magic from the dark ages. Watch out now!" Riley opens up the large box. Within is what looks to be a metal and wire re-imagining of a human arm. It's black and copper surface shines in the light of the lamp in the corner of the room.

"It's made of solid steel and cable. It's only a few pounds heavier than a real arm. Testing showed that it can take a jet shell with no damage, and even fire shells don't work very well." You ask about the other boxes. "I'm glad you asked, my good sir! Check it out." Riley lifts the lids on the other boxes.

In one is some sort of contraption that looks like it's made of the same material as the arm. The other has a similar gadget, but clearly it differs from the first. Riley pulls one out of it's box and holds it up. "We made these prototype augments to go with the arm. The boss wanted them to be customizable for specific jobs. This one has a spring loaded blade, sharp as any saber. The other has something we call the 'spitballer'. It can launch special shells that have a delayed ignition. We haven't had time to produce a lot of them, but they've tested well. We can attach either one to the arm once you've got it on. What do you say?"

In a few minutes, you are fitted with the arm, as well as the bladed attachment. There is no true feeling in the cold steel, but the mechanic workings of the arm do respond to your thoughts and commands, with the help of a pair of green gems that glow in the upper shoulder. You have no clue how it works, and neither Riley nor the buxom mechanic are able to explain it so that you do. In the end, you are satisfied to have a working limb again. Riley shrugs as Pearl sticks her finger into the workings of your arm. After a few minutes helping her get unstuck, and a couple of bandages and some disinfectant, you and the others step out of the office. As you walk, Riley makes a suggestion.

"So we can pass of the arm as a prosthetic. So long as you don't move it around too much, nobody will think twice. But even then, we probably stand out too much. It might be a good idea to dump these outfits and put on something more inconspicuous before we leave town. That way it's less likely that someone spots us." You step into one of the better shops, in hopes of finding something more dashing to wear. You help Perl put together a new sundress and a leather jacket, as well as a bag large enough to hold her rifle and ammo. You discover that the butt of the rifle seems able to collapse in on itself, making storage much easier. As one of the clerks struggles to fit Pearl into a pair of stockings, you grab a shirt and a new pair of pants and a duster off of a rack. You slip them on quickly, finding a little difficulty in getting your new arm through the sleeve. It's tight, but so long as you don't flail the stitching should hold. You grab Pearl once she's done, and dump out the handful of gold for the clerk to count out.

Riley is already waiting outside when you leave, dressed in slacks and a red jacket. He also seems to have had them quickly fix his patch to the shoulder of his new jacket. All that done, you make your way east to the nearest air station. You purchase three tickets, and board a ship to the town wherein you hope to find at least information on Donna's location.

Pearl is quite fascinated with the ship as you ride the lift up to it. She asks both of you questions about it's function and operation, to the point that it starts to become grating. You try your best to keep her within reach as you discuss the next step of the plan with Riley.

"Like I said, these guys won't just give her to us if we ask. But, I also don't know much about the town. When we get there, we'll be right back in the open water. We can either lay low and hope we run into them, or gamble and start flipping over rocks."

I don't really know how to make a braid though, so I've been trying to get it before bed." You tell her you'd help if you knew how, but she claims to want to get it on her own anyway. You stay up a little longer before telling her to give up and sleep, so that you'll be able to leave early in the morning. She agrees and strips down nude before getting back into bed. It seems she's caught on to Riley's peeve. You switch off the lamp and shut your eyes, falling asleep in a matter of minutes.

The next morning you wake to the hot sun in your face, and an odd odor in the air. You get up out of the chair and stretch. Pearl is still in bed, with her great length of red hair pooled on her pillow. Riley seems to have returned in one piece, but reeking of booze.

"Alright, don't look too long but see the guy at the counter over there?" Riley gestures with his thumb to a police officer drinking coffee and reading a newspaper at the counter. "He's dirty. "Ho, boy! You guys are gonna want to let that clear up before you go in there!" He makes his way to you, waving to the man behind the counter as he passes. "Sorry about the mess, You wouldn't believe how hard that was to flush." He arrives at the table and grins. "Everything's all taken care of. Let's pay the bill and get on down there."

Wrapping there for tonight. New thread in about eight hours. I'm sorry if the pacing in this episode isn't good, I can try to speed things up if you guys prefer. I only just realized how bored you all must be.

Thank you to everyone who played, I love you all and so does the child. If someone will archive, I'll have her blow you a kiss tomorrow morning.

The word 'episode'.

The thread's name being different from the others bothers me a lot, even if it's not something major
