Notes on Rolls and Voting:

When I request rolls, each set of three rolls counts for one action. For example, a two-step plan would take the first 6 linked rolls. A particularly bad failure can interrupt a string of actions.

When rolling 1d100, I will consider criticals within the first ten linked rolls. Only criticals that occur in the first three rolls will be counted as "supercrits". This is still the case even if you'd have plan long enough to require more than ten rolls.

When rolling 1d20, the rules are the same, but I only consider criticals for the first five rolls, rather than ten. Criticals in the first three are still "supercrits".

When a plot choice results in extensive debate, I'll try to weed out the most popular trains of thought, and then call a vote on them. When voting, please respond with only a link back to the post and the number corresponding to your opinion. Other votes are discounted, including those with dice rolls or extra spaces.

Finally, note that this is not a democracy; it is a benevolent dictatorship.

Recent Events Summary:

You flew at Hypersonic speeds with Abigail and Ila to rescue Sir Donovan Flint, but by the time you arrived, he had already been captured and transported to an unknown destination.

You disrupted the Ragnarok's shields and transported the entire airship to the alternate plane within your Pocket. Dozens of angels were then subjected to the fury of the skysever. You fought against and captured the 11th Highest, Jophiel. After picking her memories with Adavan's mind magic, you gained knowledge of the transport sigil they used to teleport Donovan away.

Hemmelus opened the path for you, but it slammed shut before your allies could follow - and you were greeted by a strange entity that declared itself the Avatar of Chaos. It claimed responsibility for taking Donovan, and the fact that it had used him to lure you into a lethal trap. Your defeat seemed inevitable, but exposure to the creature's concentrated energies awoke a power you'd since lost, enabling you to win the fight - though the effort exhausted you beyond your limits.

Upon waking, you were bent upon locating Donovan as quickly as possible, but Hemmelus explained that his life was not in immediate danger. Your enemies are still lacking a vital component of their plan, a component which may provide you with a window of opportunity.

While his proposition of an ambush using the power of Chronomancy sounds feasible, it's also risky, and decided to run the idea by your allies before coming to a decision.

It was at night, and most were asleep, so you decided to consult with Hecate. She told you that Hemmelus's plan was possible with her powers, and she then assisted you on a Dream Walk. You were able to locate Donovan's dream, calm his nightmare, and tell him about the plan.

It's now the morning after those events. You were going to gather your allies, but it seems Yi Fang is getting up to no good...

Forgot you'd bought Army of Darkness

--------
--------

With Jophiel out of the way, you portal back to Arland.

While you're frustrated that Donovan remains out of reach, you feel like you're getting your momentum back. You have an operable plan of attack; you have goals you're working toward. He isn't out of reach. It's just a matter of time.

And you'll make sure, that when the time comes, you're ready. But for the moment, you need to get the inner circle up to speed.

You land on the raised walkway surrounding the training grounds within the castle's walls, and make your way inside. Might as well greet Abigail first. Maybe she'll want to eat breakfast? It feels like it's been a while since you've had a real sit-down meal. You do enjoy them...

Yi Fang turns the corner ahead of you. "Shadow. Good morning."

You stop, and stare.

He's traded his formal Archmage attire for something a bit more casual, like what you've seen him wear around his office for day-to-day work.

But his cape is tossed casually over one arm. The trimming matches his tunic and trousers. Polished plates of armor sit on his exposed shoulder, more decorative than functional, though you've no doubt he could make them perfectly functional in a pinch. His hair is combed back, neatly arranged. You've never seen him look disheveled, but he's always had an easy sort of style about him. This...is preened. Intentional.

"...Archmage?"

Fang smirks. "Did I leave your breathless?"

"Where are you going?"

He sweeps past you. "To call upon a fair lady."

>Wait, what?!
>Which one?!
>...what did Auriel tell you?
>Tell Fang about Hecate as a means of distracting him from his plotting

So remember how Hemmelus said that vampire souls no longer produce their own energy and they have to feed on others for it? Remember how vampirism is a shadow modification to the soul?

That sounds awfully similar to a certain Erebus and his CONSUME habits. There's even a fucking skill in our tree called "Vampiric" that boosts the xp we get from consuming.

Erebus/Shadow doesn't generate his own power as the elemental lords do. He is to the elementals as humans are to vampires.

SM tricked you all. This has been a 104 thread ruse cruise where you didn't even know you were playing the Lord of Vampires masquerading as a shadow elemental.

This last point I may be totally wrong about, but I'm fairly sure the pic he used for all our shards completing was a vampire lord wallpaper thing that he just desaturated in photoshop.
>>
>>30700541

It doesn't have to be straight vampirism. Just something similar.

Mages and other magical shit produce too much damn energy and cause the world to step closer to the apocalypse.

If you cut off their production, and instead make them fuel themselves on excess energy, like the elementals and mana pools popping up, there's less things spinning out of control.

"Uh...do you think any of them will have you?"

"Suddenly, a sense of humor," Fang says.

You follow after him. "Hold on. What is this about, exactly?"

"It's exactly what I said. Stop badgering me and entertain my niece. I can't have her - "

"Uncle?" Abigail turns the corner ahead of you both, at the entrance to the stairs leading back to the first floor. "I thought that was your voice. Good morning, Shadow."

Fang sighs. "Good morning. Why don't you and Shadow go eat breakfast?"

"Uh...well, would you care to join us?"

"I don't need to eat," Fang says, "but I do have something on my plate."

"What's going on?"

<Abigail,> you say, switching to telepathy, <I'll send my wisp with you. Go speak with Auriel. I'll follow Fang. Just in case he's going to stir something up.>

Abigail nods. <Ok. I'll take the other stairs. I'll be in range if I stay in the castle, so let me know if you think you know where he's going.>

<Alright.>

Abigail starts down the hall toward the other stairwell. You meld the shadows around you and Compress your aura and your size until you're just a flicker of darkness lingering on the stone, no more than the hazy shadow of a dim candelabra.

You slink along like a little puff of slithering smoke, stepping softly and slightly over the stone.

Fang continues onward, up into the higher suites of the upper floors. A maid carrying fresh sheets spots him and dashes down a side path. At one intersection, a knight almost crosses his path - then jumps backward, his hand on the hilt of his sword.

"Careful," Fang says. "Someone's liable to get hurt."

You arrive in front of a rather ornate door, the entrance to what are probably luxurious living quarters. Fang raps his fist on the door twice, and waits. You take the opportunity to duck into his shadow - that's about as invisible as you can make yourself.

The door opens.

The Black Lady stands before you, her black dress drooping off pale shoulders. She blinks. "...Archmage. I wasn't expecting you."

"Something I hear quite often," he says. "Might I come in?"

"Ah...well, I was about to attend breakfast."

"I realize time is a precious thing. I beg of you a moment of yours."

"...time." She smiles slightly. "Well, we are both undead, aren't we?"

"The rumors of my lichdom are but slander and lies. I'm in a suspended state of life."

"...I can sense it where I stand, Archmage."

"Then I argue for an expanded definition of life."

Melody holds the door slightly ajar. She seems torn between amusement and uncertainty. "...I..."

>>30702447
Conversion is pretty handy, I'll admit. It's basically a perfect defense against Chaos-based attacks.

But Erasure gives us a stupidly powerful finishing move if we use it correctly. For example, on a certain enemy whom we buried up to the neck in mud.

>>30702511
I dunno man. Our judgment at the Core seemed pretty good when we whipped out Erasure.

>>
>>30702680
It's an instant kill if we can touch our opponent.
>>
>>30702680
The great thing about conversion.. is that any chaos based attack means nil.

For three XP, we're invulnerable to all the fuck-huge power spells that we've either had to dodge or USE a shard to defend ourselves against.
And that power can be put into a shard after it gets negated.

It's ridiculously OP for it's cost. What a shame we won't be getting XP before the battle.
>>
>>30702710
>It's an instant kill if we can touch our opponent.

Pretty big if there.
>>
>>30702746
Not really when we rely on melee so much.
>>
>>30702762
Reliance is not the same as reliability. Melee may be our strongest area, but I don't trust the dice as far as I can throw them.

Best plan is either to Blink up and stun an enemy with a few good punches before using Erasure, or to find some way to restrain the enemy before Erasing it.

Yes they are.

We agree on tosn of shit and new thread? INSTANTLY forgotten because new players want to force their latest fanboner through.

Not just lack of foresight.

A real 'i gotta get MY waifu and MY exp party choices before the other people gets theris'
Team hydra was the worst thing that happened to this quest. Block-voting faggots who want ONLY their stuff, and nothing else - no foresight, no cooperation, no listening to good ideas - is really the root cause.
Not team hydra specifically - more that the idea caught on, and now the player base is polarized.

No matter what shit you agree to plan out in a thread, you GOTTA be there at the start of the next one to remind people.

You decide to do nothing. It isn't really for you to interfere; you said your peace to Melody, earlier. This is her decision. And you can tell Abigail and Auriel in a minute.

"...I...suppose you did ask rather nicely." She leaves the door open and steps back into the room.

"Thank you," Fang says. You're towed along with him as his shadow flits inside the room.

It's a plush apartment. Arland green-and-white is the color of choice for the upholstery, and a deep green carpet rests on the floor. A few sofas and chairs scattered around a table, and a fireplace at the other end of the room, make for a comfortable greeting area. Doorways to the left and right lead further into the suite.

She sits in one of the chairs. "I apologize, but I have not a drop of drink to offer."

Fang waves her off, seating himself in the couch across the table from her. "Not at all."

"Well, Archmage, I believe your calling upon me while I'm in my room, alone, might be seen by some as rather improper."

"My presence seems to drive off the servants. I don't think we need to worry about any rumors."

"Well, you can be a rather frightful figure."

Fang makes a hurt look. "Coming from your ladyship, that's saying something."

"That was backhanded."

"Tit for tat."

She smiles, but straightens, and smooths her dress over her knees. "To what do I owe your call this morning, Archmage?"

"You may call me Yi, your ladyship."

"...I'd prefer to keep things more formal."

"I see." Fang stands. He moves away from the seats, and sets his arms behind his back. "I know how you feel."

"Do you?"

"Distance," he says, "is a shield." He turns back to her. "I came to make a proposal."

"...yes?"

"A proposal," Fang says, "of marriage."

Melody's mouth drops open. She's on her feet in an instant. "What...are you out of your mind?!"

Fang chuckles. "I'm not that ugly, am I?"

"Your physical appearance has nothing to do with it," she says. "Do you realize what you're suggesting?"

"I've thought it over since you arrived in Archon that day, ushered in by Shadow. I know exactly what I'm suggesting."

"No," she says, "I don't think you do. Such an alliance would create a fundamental shift in the balance of power."

"That is already happening."

"It would set you against the Ring City!"

"I already am."

"There's a war on!"

"People need something to cheer for, during war."

"I don't even know you!"

Fang shrugs. "Well...we're somewhat well acquainted, now. I enjoy your wit, and appreciate your intelligence. It would be a political marriage to cement the budding ties between our countries."

"I can't leave my country to be...the wife of the Archmage."

"You won't have to go to me," he says. "A few months after this war is over, I'm retiring."

"...then...you're serious. About Abigail."

"I assume Shadow divulged my master plans."

"He did. Give her Archon, take the hate with you, and away from her."

"So it is."

"She's too young."

"She's strong enough for this," he says. "And she has him."

"...you put a lot of stock in Shadow."

>>
"Have you ever seen anything like it? Him?" Fang takes a step forward. "Have you wondered how the elementals came into being? Have you seen how his power grows, in leaps, in bounds? Every time I look at him he is stronger. If he does not plateau, he will grow stronger than Sandalphon. For all intents and purposes, he might as well be Erebus."

Melody swallows. "...Archmage..."

"Yi," he insists. He steps closer. "What is your name, my lady?"

"I - "

"I would know it," he says.

"...I cannot marry you. If I marry, I would marry not for gain, but as an example to my people."

Fang makes an ugly smirk. "For love, then."

Her eyes narrow. "Yes. For love. Something I'm sure you cast aside an age ago."

"...would you believe me if I told you that I knew love, once?"

"I might."

Fang licks his lips. He takes a breath. He puts his hands down at his side, and opens his mouth.

There's a sharp knock at the door. "Your ladyship? It's me." Abigail's voice.

"...Abby," the lady says. "Ah...just a moment, if you wold!"

Fang immediately walks over and opens the door. He gives Abigail a broad smiles. "Dearest niece."

Abigail grins back. "Uncle. You shouldn't just open the door when a lady asks for a moment."

"Oh, that was just on my behalf," Fang says, "isn't that right, your ladyship?"

"Uh...yes. Right."

"We were just talking about dinner, tomorrow," he says. "We've decided to get to know each other a bit better, before committing to a deeper alliance."

"You have?" Abigail asks.

"We have?" Melody says.

"Abby," the lady says, "would you care to join us?"

"What?" Fang asks.

"Why, certainly," Abigail says. "Although, I...was under the impression it was to be a private sort of thing. Maybe."

"Since you mention it," Fang says, "I had indeed intended - "

"Nonsense," the lady says, cutting him off. "How can you turn down your niece's enthusiasm like that? I have to get to know her, too. For Archon's sake."

Fang's lips twist up. "...yes. For Archon."

"Oh, and bring Shadow," the lady says.

"My," Abigail says, "that sounds like a double-date. Isn't that a little risque?"

"Don't be a bore, dear Abby," she says. "Maybe I'll show you a thing or two about men."

"While I'd normally be offended by the suggestion," Fang says, "for you, my lady, I grant this sole exception."

"Good." The Lady stares at Fang. "We wouldn't want any grudges or unexpected bumps, would we?"

Fang stares back at the lady. "I'm sure everything will go according to plan."

"Indeed."

"Quite."

"I was going to get breakfast," Abigail says. "Would you like to join me? I'm meeting Auriel there. And Shadow, probably. He's off doing something again."

"Let's not waste another moment," the lady says. "Let's see if the Flint table is as laden as they boast."

You form an image in your mind, and throw it at Melody.

She's dressed in a white wedding gown. Fang stands next to her, odd without a cape and any hint of armor. Abigail is grinning and bouncing on her toes eagerly to Melody's left. Sandalphon is on the ground in front of them, on his hands and knees, supporting a tablecloth and a few decorations. You stand behind the angel with a serious look on your face, a book propped open in your hands.

And then Arcturis Flint skips down the center isle of your imaginary church, tossing flowers from a basket and into the pews. They rain down on the gathered heads of all your acquaintances. Auriel sniffles, then blows her nose loudly into a handkerchief.

Melody trips over her dress and collapses to the floor.

"Your ladyship?! Are you ok?!"

Fang kneels next to her. "My lady, are you quite alright?" He offers her his hand.

"Oh, elements..." She gingerly takes it, and allows him to help her back up. Her lips are tight, as if she's pressing on them very hard.

"Are you ok?" Abigail asks again.

The words are small and forced out of her throat. "Just fine."

"You're sure?" Fang asks. He seems legitimately concerned. "I could procure some water, or - "

"I'll be fine once I have a little food in me. Just a spell, was all." She turns away as the smirk tries to pierce through her face. "Let's be off."

You're still in Fang's shadow, being tugged along every step.

We should beam an impression of us laying in front of a fireplace in tiny underwear, with a really hair chest. On a angel-feather rug. With great hair. To Abby.

We don't sleep. We could literally spend every hour between now and the FINAL BATTLE filling Sandalphon's head with erotic images.

Doing something silly is a necessity once in a while, and something we haven't had a chance to do in a long time. It's nice.

But let's not overdo it. Let's get on with the quest.

We'll just slip out of Abigail's shadow without a pimp suit or any of that other nonsense.

You slither over to Abigail's shadow, and then slide right up out of it.

Fang seems mildly surprised. Of course, he might be acting. He's probably acting. Elements, why does he make you feel so paranoid?

"Have you been in her shadow the whole time?" he asks.

"Yes."

"Shadow!" Abigail flinches away from you. "Sheesh. Warn me first, ok?"

"You need discipline, Abby," Melody says. "Don't be surprised. Instead, react to surprise."

"...hmm."

Melody turns away, but you hear her thoughts in your head. <I see you were trying to tell me you were there in your own way, Shadow...but why were you spying on us?>

What do you say?

So?

Point is, Leviathan was apparently a dick back then and I don't expect him to play nice after 700 years of suffering for the sake of a war plan that didn't actually exist if even the supposedly most reasonable Elemental Lord(Hecate) acts like a bit of a bitch about her 700 year old grudge.

<Not from us, no. But I wouldn't put it past him to suspect something. In fact, I think he does suspect something. Maybe that's what this is about - you remind him of yourself, and he's trying to get you to slip up.>

<...I can't refute your logic.>

<Would it really be that bad?>

<He's a murderer and a villain.>

<He usually has some cause for killing people...even if he stretches his justifications.>

<...it feels as though his edge has dulled, somewhat," she says, "but you don't know him, Shadow, not like I do. I'm surprised Arcturis isn't dead yet. I keep expecting people to start foaming at the mouth from poisoning, for assassins to strike at night and for all the Archon delegates to be gone come day. I'm on edge waiting for him to do something.>

<Is it possible he really is just taking a backseat to all of this?>

<I just don't believe it.>

You enter the breakfast room. Servants are cleaning up most of the table, though a few dishes have been replaced. The only two present are Vaz Grak, who is stuffing his face, and Steward.

"Apparently we're late," Fang says.

"Well, we did delay a bit," Melody says.

>con't

>>
>>30704021
>>30704088
>>30704096

you know, it might be a good idea to just eat the two halves of leviathan instead of freeing the guy

think about it: by consuming him in his entirety, we'll not only get beefier, but we wont need to deal with his bitchy 'ive been tortured for 700 years' crap

and lets try and understand Hecate keeping her reservations. For her it's still a fresh memory.
>>
You take seats at the freshly set end of the table, just a short distance from the other two. Steward stares at Vaz Grak with a constant, green-eyed gaze. The warleader ignores him, merely tearing into a leg of ham like a dog on a bone. You all watch with a silent fascination.

Eventually, Grak catches Steward's gaze. "Construct? What is it?"

"I am observing the process of organic consumption."

"You watching me eat?"

"Correct."

"Why?"

"For our records. The process of tearing apart natural materials and digesting it into useable components and energy has many potential applications. Orcs seem to be proficient at this task, though John is closest to perfect efficiency. More observations are required."

Grak shrugs, then goes back to nicking the fat off the bone with his teeth.

"Ah, the wonders of friendship," Fang muses.

"I hope that wasn't sarcasm, Archmage," Auriel says. She plops down next to you and starts spooning herself some sort of meat pudding.

"Perish the thought, dear Auriel."

>>

700 years of nothing didn't do shit actually. It took an elf queen and a little girl and a bumbling knight to do the majority of that.

Can we pocket Hecate?
>>
>>30704213

He could go on a rampage inside our body and destroy our shards.
>>
>>30704240
How much does Shadow weigh, approximately
>>
>>30704229
It may help. Though asking Hecate about any actual decisions Leviathan made would be a better gauge than whatever she called "arrogant," because we've got plenty of arrogant people on our side and they're not too bad themselves.
>>
>>30704240

You scare the piss out of me when you say shit like that.

>>30704229
Put Leviathan together, and then shatter him into shards and scatter them across the world.

>>
>>30704240
So we restore Leviathan, Geb and Hecate, pocket them, and release them over Kan-Abar.
>>
>>30704253

you literally pulled that out of thin air. why do you believe that's a possibility? our only inner conflict has been when we actively interacted with our shards, like when we subdued temerity. i highly doubt we'd have another prison break

>>
>>30704292
Why would we pocket them when we could just, I don't know, bring them with us?

>>

>>
>>30704399

see the thing is we actively engaged in that fight by trying to convert the guy.

there's that, and we don't know if we'd even get a shard from gobbling leviathan. that again is pure speculation, unless we have some reasonable basis to believe that, which i would like to see.

i understand that elementals have been tied with shards, but sm has also said he didn't originally plan for shards in the first place. i'd gather that something nifty would happen if we consumed leviathan, but i don't think it'd be catastrophic.

all im saying is we're in a unique position where we can take out an elemental lord without consequence. it's not something to take lightly, either by paranoia about what could happen, or want to be fwends with everyone. we know the guy is a horse's ass, and if we can avoid dealing with him the better.
>>
>>30704381
Pocket is the stealthiest container ever, because it can only be accessed by us. It is also incredibly versatile, because it only requires us to touch the object we want to Pocket.

So, we could theoretically transport Hecate, in absolute safety, to the battlefield, Unpocket her in the very place where her arrival will throw the enemy into the greatest disarray and do the most damage, and then, with a touch, Pocket her again when/if she exhausts herself.

We don't need to use Hecate for this, though. We could just pack our Pocket with heavily-shielded constructs, like Ragnarok, and Pocket them just long enough to let their shields or weapons recharge before unleashing them again.
>>
>>30704486
We don't know that personally, we know that by second hand accounts from Hecatate, and that's it.
>>
>>30704486
That is also baseless speculation.
And a fun fact he is our ally if we try to kill and fail he will return the favor.
>>
>>30704546

hecate literally knew the guy, i trust that much. our knowledge of what's-his-face the douchelord of kan-abar is entirely second hand, but the vote to murder him would be unanimous under similar circumstances

>>30704550

fine, lets remove the speculation at least as far as it makes sense

leviathan is helpless and trapped in this gem thing. Hecate said the guy was an asshole, and she has first hand experience with this sort of thing.

he's not explicitly our ally. we're order, he's chaos. we're more closely tied to him elementally ofc, but he's not bound to us. he honestly doesn't owe us shit other than gratitude should we free him. i dare speculate again and say he's not going to take the news that Erebus duped him as well as Hecate did, especially considering the cat is out of the bag on that account.

we have the opportunity to kill him, for free, and for benefit. it's not something to dismiss offhandedly.
>>
>>30704766
>we have the opportunity to kill him, for free, and for benefit. it's not something to dismiss offhandedly.
And there is the speculation.
Nothing is for free so what is the real cost.
>>
Wait a moment don't we still have that angel airship in our pocket
