You are Laura Kinney, clone, fugitive, and homeless mutant.

While working at the Tabbycat, you managed to track down a possible lead on Creeper, the elusive drug baron whose territory has recently descended into a warzone. His elimination would greatly assist your recent efforts to minimize collateral, but, shortly before closing time, you overhead another rather damning conversation – one suggesting a hit in the process of being contracted.

Reasoning that you have your initial lead’s scent, you trail the possible hitman on his way out, his guttural scent – all cigarettes and beer and botched shaves – leading you several streets further into Brooklyn.

Eventually, he stops by a street corner, an old, dark green automobile pulling in soon after. The window rolls down and he leans in to exchange a hushed conversation with the portly, dark-skinned man inside.

>[X] Listen in.

You duck into a nearby alley and listen in, letting your keen ears serve in place of your eyes.

“…I heard the job was for two?” Unfamiliar voice. It’s the man in the car. He speaks with a deep, drawn-out baritone, his voice crackling with a lifetime of heavy smoking.

“Yeah, kinda.” Sunglasses man. He’s the same – voice like gravel. “The guy’s some low level enforcer, thought he could skip town with the Owl’s”– a chortle elbows into the sentence –“sorry, I mean, the Owl? Really? Anyhow, he’s stolen a bunch of money from his employer and the guy ain’t happy. Girlfriend was in on it too, but I made our position on that pretty clear.”

“So we walk in, cap the guy, walk out? Simple as?”

“Pretty much.”

The second man snorts derisively.

“…This ain’t exactly gonna be our big score, is it?”

He's more a potential lead on the nature of Jack and Creeper, who for long term survival it would be best to eliminate as a threat. Which means gathering any info possible.

There's no option to make progress on the short term goal of finding JJ, but there is a faint hope of progress in the long term goal there.

“Alright, let’s just get this done. Everything goes as it should an’ I can be home in time for”–

None of this is relevant. A small, strange part of you felt compelled to follow, the impending shadow of death casting light over the thousands of bloody kills filed away in your memory, but the target here is no innocent and you have no quarrel with these men. You wait for the car to pull away into the night before emerging, reassessing your plans for the night.

The night turns slowly overhead. You think.

It wouldn’t be difficult to catch the tail end of the man from the club. He left by the front door, his scent will be hanging there for a short while. But is this something you want to do alone? Not long ago, it would be unthinkable that Laura Kinney would have the option of calling in backup – or even considering it, for that matter – but things seem to have changed, both in the world outside, and in that indistinct, uncomfortable place you find waiting for you in the dark behind your eyes.

Optic force blasts are clearly the superior choice, especially with Geointuitive vision. Anyways JJ is still has his fire phobia, it'd be 50 threads before we'd even be able to use our dragon breath without rolling against high DC's.

>[X] Don’t call anyone. Confirm that the lead is of worth first.

…Perhaps would be best to confirm a matter of interest before getting anyone’s hopes up. You do not wish to be shouted at by Victoria. Again.

You return to the Tabbycat, sniffing the air for your target’s scent. It doesn’t take long for you to pluck it from the drunken, smoky miasma of the club, your nose cutting easily through the murk. Briefly, you wonder how your companions understand the world without these essential facets, but the thought fades quickly. There are many aspects of the universe you have no knowledge of, after all, and you are capable of surviving without them.

You track the scent for almost an hour, skirting the boundary between Brooklyn and the markedly lesser skyline of Queens. Eventually you find yourself at the entrance to an old, weathered block of apartments, your target’s cologne-sweat shadow leading up toward the third floor.

You make your way up, coming to a shabby, flaking door. You sniff the air quietly, confirming the presence of your mark inside. The fiery warmth of strong liquor hangs in the air like a heavy fog, punctured intermittently by smatterings of week-old garbage.

>[X] Scent out the apartment.

You breathe deeply. The omnipresent rot of the place fills you, stirring the impression of a great, long-dead animal, its innards strung out and turn into corridors, its delicate meshwork of veins converted into piping, the wounds that caused its death serving as windows and doors. You close out the fetid haze of the building and focus on the room in front of you, drinking in its details.

He’s not alone. Another man occupies the apartment, both of them smelling heavily of drink. There’s a firearm, probably a pistol, on the old oak table beside your target. The other man – he’s overweight, and above the age of thirty – has one too.

As you stand and listen to your nose, the sounds of chatter draw near, and a gaggle of skimpily-dressed young girls emerge into the corridor. At first you pay them little heed, but their eyes settle heavily upon you and you hear their pace quicken.

“Hey!” Once of them squawks, her accent distinctly Ukrainian. Her voice is slurred with a streak of mean, catty indignation. “He call you in too?”

The situation doesn’t elude your grasp for long.

“Yes.” You state flatly. While they could present difficulties once inside, attempting to remove these girls would likely cause something of a scene.

One or two of the girls roll their eyes. One of the shorter ones, a skinny young girl of East Asian ethnicity, titters quietly.

“Yah, God.” She rattles something off in Vietnamese, which provokes a small smile from the woman beside her. “We not enough, eh?”

The blonde girl at the front ignores them and knocks at the door, though she does shoot you a rather pointed glare. Inside, one of the men rises from his alcoholic stupor, and soon enough the door swings open. He’s greeted by a chorus of enthused squeals, most of them perfectly deceptive, a grin flopping drunkenly across his fat face. It’s the other man, a balding creature with a drooping gut and an ill-fitting suit.

“Heya, girls!” His voice wobbles this way and that, very much in step with his waistline. “Come, come on, in.”

He beckons eagerly, the girls following him inside. You step in behind them, attempting to mingle into the small crowd.

“Line up, line”– He pauses to belch out a cloud of scotch and Chinese takeout. –“up!”

>[X] Play along.

You play along, casting your eyes around the apartment. It’s dim, a muted, tall lamp providing light for the entire room, but you easily discern the weapon sitting on the table beside your mark. Beretta 92, 950 grams total, 217 millimetres in length and chambering fifteen rounds. Effective range: 160ft. More than enough to cover the entire apartment – and, most likely, the whole building.

The girls line up, wearing broad smiles, and you fall into step beside them. It occurs to you that you’re somewhat ill-clothed for the setting. After the explosion, you traded in your ruined corset for a tank top and a pair of light, roomy jeans. Combined with the battered white jacket and the heavy combat boots, you cut a less than seductive silhouette.

The irrelevant man slumps down on a sofa lying on the other end of the room, rubbing his hands. Your mark seems significantly less inebriated, and sits in relative quiet, his eyes narrowed slightly, as if thinking hard. Whatever his tracks his thoughts were running on, though, they are cut short when his fellow asks him who he wants first.

You have undertaken more demanding missions than this. Your attire may break the distinct Santa Elf theme these girls seem to have going, but your audience is dulled by drink, their perspective skewed by the intoxicating immanence of sex. You force yourself to smile and wait for them to make their choices.

Eventually, the flabby one points at the blonde girl beside you, and she saunters over to him. After a moment more of consideration, his ratty, bloodshot eyes darting quickly between the four remaining options, your mark speaks up.

“New girl.” He beckons for you, taking a long swig from the glass held loosely in his other hand.

"You are new, right?"

You nod, letting him run with his assumption. It occurs to you that this could present a perfect opportunity to relieve him of his sidearm, but you would rather not be forced to harm any of the girls.

“Yes.”

His face breaks into an eager grin. Your skin prickles uneasily as he takes your hand, heaving himself up off his seat. He mumbles something under his breath, but it’s barely audible even as gibberish, so you just smile and nod. Whatever it was, that seemed to be the right response, as he slouches close to you, directing you toward one of the other rooms.

You try to hide the involuntary twitch of your nose – up close, he smells of packaged meat – and let him take you into a small, unadorned room, identifiable as a bedroom only by the mattress sprawled along one corner.

“You’re, you’re lucky”– He wipes his mouth and set his glass down, shutting the door behind him. –“you got here before my friends turned up.”

You’re being steered towards the bed. His breath is slouching across your shoulder, like a dead animal.

“I’m gentle. I promise.”

>[X] SNIKT.

“I will not be gentle.” You respond curtly, momentarily aware of the widening grin on his face before you twist him around, heaving him down onto the mattress.

SNIKT.

He glances up, and is surprised to find a pair of razor-sharp blades hovering over his throat, almost close enough to shave the stubble from his chin. His grin persists for a single, uncertain moment, before his eyes begin to widen and you feel a shout bulging his chest. Your slap your hand over his mouth and lean in over him, pressing your claws close – close enough to draw two long, thin lines of blushing red across his throat.

Not deep enough to puncture anything vital, but certainly deep enough to send a very clear message.

“I will remove my hand momentarily.” You tell him, your voice barely above a whisper. “You will make no sounds unless you are asked to. Do you understand?”

He nods carefully, your claws still just one stray movement away from slicing open his jugular.

Creeper. You feel your claws edging at the underside of your skin.

“…Well, anyway, you just best get a crew together, ‘cause this shit is hot. The ‘Cudda is nobody I’d wanna fuck with. Yeah, seeya, man.” He hangs up, and snorts into the dead receiver. “Moron.”

“Who are your 'friends'?” Is your first question. You need to know what kind of interruptions you could be looking at.

Slowly, you remove your hand from his mouth, keeping your claws a hairsbreadth from opening up his throat.

“J-just some guys, they, they work with me, they’re nobody big time.”

Good.

“What is Barracuda after?”

His eyes widen.

“How’d you”– Your claws press down harder against his throat. “Okay okay okay, okay… I dunno, not… not exactly…” His eyes dart wildly, as if skirting the outliers of his memory for anything with the potential to save his life. “It’s something they use in that mutant drug… not MGH, the other one, uh… Jack! Yeah! Dunno, what it is, but it’s valuable. Mister Negative’s boys found it in the old smelting plant down near Cedar Woods. They’ve been tryin’ to get it out for days.”

Interesting. Some kind of rare mineral? A leftover particulate of some sort? You assumed Jack to be composed of rather mundane materials, grown and nurtured the usual way. This, however, seems to imply that one of the key ingredients is spontaneously occurring.

“Tell me everything you know about Jack production.”

He shakes his head as rapidly as your grip will allow.

“Nothing! I swear, I ain’t one of Creeper’s boys! I’m just a hired gun, I don’t know shit about drugs, especially not… freaky mutant ones.”

You eye him carefully. If the terror in his eyes is directly proportional to his level of truthfulness, you’d guess that he’s being honest with you.

“Please… please, I don’t know anything else… please don’t kill me…”

Both terms apply, one is just an adaptation.

Generally speaking, a character SHOULD do the same thing when presented with the same moral dilemma. That's what having a defined character is.
>>
>>30719302
And what we were interested in. And that we know things we shouldn't. And got a lot closer look at us. And has a great deal more incentive to remember us. And knows about our clawiness. And generally most of the things that could be extremely valuable to anyone trying to track us, and which Barracuda will likely be extracting from him if he wakes up.

Seriously. I normally just roll my eyes when people start complaining about white knighting, but this is taking it a little too far, guys.
>>

Guy is small-time, not even part of a big organization, there's no higher ups to give a fuck.

But we kill him? His friend(?) in the other room comes after us, maybe tries to hire someone else, knows our face, etc.

>>

>>
>>30719448
>Generally speaking
Goodness grandma what a big loophole you have.

It's never the same choice twice. Every successive choice to keep opening more Mutant Boxes on the ship was a choice between trying to save people vs. an ever increasing risk of dying. Each choice was different, because the risk was higher every time.

Each choice is also different because of new experiences potentially informing the character. Like getting burned every time you tried to be selfless in the past. You can reach your internal limit of how much you tolerate the consequences of taking the hard road.

It's trivial to justify making different decisions.
>>
>>30719502
He's connected to somebody or he wouldn't have had that phone call

>[X] Kill him.

Without hesitation, you press your claws deep into his throat, coppery red blooming across the sheets. His eyes strain at the borders of their sockets for a second, reeling in disbelief, before he falls away, his breath failing, the light in his desperate stare fading. The steady thrum of his heart stops. Just a few seconds, and he’s nothing more than a corpse, its features frozen in uncomprehending horror.

You slide off it, wiping your claws on the bedsheets. You’re oddly aware of the sharp, jerking pain of your claws sliding back into your flesh.

The smell of blood consumes the room. Outside, there is heavy, doddering music, punctuated occasionally by shrill, ecstatic voices. You hear the door to the apartment swing open and a procession of heavy footsteps stride in just under the music, their arrival narrated by an upsurge of girlish laughter.

You suppose his friends have arrived. Just in time to find his body.

But this guy isn't innocent and if he ever goes back to that club and recognizes her it will mean trouble. She's nice but not stupid nice like JJ is.
>[ ] Kill him.
>>
>>30719645
>deciding who's worthy of living and who isn't
being pragmatic about killing when necessary is one thing, saying someone "isn't innocent" like that's relevant is quite another.
>>
>>30719586
So, what are the chances that Laura becomes an antihero/villain and antagonist to JJ? Like, Magneto and Xavier, but on a smaller scale.

Because that would be cool.
>>
If JJ shows up and we don't start playing as him its not really JJ its a clone and the real JJ is dead.

Not really. They still think he's getting his freak on. We've got a few minutes before they start to get suspicious at the lack of noise.

I never understood why people do this. Other quests too.

Surely it's more fun to just keep playing.

Pretty sure Laura's events were relatively the same until she met JJ, which split her off from the normal route of becoming a hooker.
>>

Shouldn't use meta knowledge to make decisions like that. I would have voted, if I thought of it earlier

That was Laura.

which would be entirely unnecessary honestly. you gotta appreciate subtlety.

JJ has Healing 3.

At this point in time his healing is potent enough to over-write a shit tone of the basic rules of biology. Frankly he isent even going to age anymore, hes going to be stuck like laura: alive until incinerated or starved to death.

I'm not even going to go into which rules he breaks, it would take too long to explain. Just to state though: there is literally nothing now, provided he has the time, energy and such forth, that will permanently cripple him unless it was brain trauma.
>>
>>30719813
You still going to try and run tomorrow?
>>
>>30719995
healing 5 is the max for a strength build anon, we got healing 3. I'm sure it's very good but I think you're overstating it.
>>
>>30719865
We all are. We're also wondering where JJ is, what's the deal with Typhon, and when we'll finally corner Creeper.

It's just a bit silly to ask for an Angel of the Future to spoonfeed you these things through the fourth wall.
>>
>>30719980
he gasped when he recognized us

"it might not have been the right time but at least you did the right thing"

>>30719987
I don't trust anon with Peter, hell I don't trust them with Laura
>>
>>30719995
>alive until incinerated or starved to death
Laura can't heal major brain damage. Destroying her head or cutting said head off will totally kill her. Also JJ isn't nearly as hard to kill as Laura. Couple of shotgun blasts center mass would probably kill JJ even with healing lvl 3.
>>
>>30720075
You mean when Creeper will corner us.

Sexually.
>>
>>30720093
and drowning, don't forget drowning!

RIP in peace Daken but not really fuck that guy
>>
>>30719995
lvl 3 healing isn't that good.
It won't protect him from grenades or shotguns or a bullet to his brain.
>>
>>30720087
>he gasped when he recognized us

Of course, but I want to see it all from his point of view. His thoughts, his position on this revelation, etc.
>>
>>30720087
and you shouldn't, anon.

i don't even trust anon with JJ.

but you realize your answers were not an answer to anon's question. which is "peter pov WHEN"

pointing out other times you talked to peter doesn't sate their hunger.
>>
>>30720075
Just asking an estimate on how many threads until we might see him.
Granted, I wasn't expecting an answer.
>>
>>30719995
Healing 3 is not that good. JJ can regrow limbs over a few days, regen from minor gunshot wounds fairly rapidly, and just general low-to-mid grade comic book rapid healing. Any major organ damage, we're dead. It explicitly does NOT stop aging - someone asked. I think it slows aging down some, but not sure how much.

they wanted an in to his mind and feelings. those moments provided that.

and POV switches usually leave a bad taste in my mouth. people get so used to one character and how they roll, they carry it over to somebody else, who might be completely different from the first guy.

Laura's worked out (so far).
>>
>>30720234
>following some random hitman for no reason
not that well.
>>
>>30720234
I think killing the guy was the more true of the two paths.

Also the fact that we kept up JJ's ideals, but only to an extent, like Laura would.
>>
>>30720215
I wonder if its possible to unlock healing 4 and 5
>>
>>30720093
She can however heal a severed spinal cord, I think she just needs part of her brain and bloodflow to it to live.

what

>>30720285
nope.

Photosynthetic would help the regen though
>>
>>30720285

There does seem to be some overlap with photosynthetic biology, however. Perhaps an extrapolative extension?
>>
>>30720302

I agree, Laura has a predisposition towards violence.

she won't shank some random guy on the street but if you present an imminent or potential threat....then your ass is grass

If the spinal chord is severed around the rib cage or waist she can heal. In the comic books it is stated multiple times that cutting off Wolverines head would kill him. Laura has the same healing powers as Wolverine.

Just saying that MJ was a mutant.
Hell, he has the ability to change colour and sonic scream.
>>
>>30720494
I like to think that JJ's constant heroics have been slowly rubbing off onto Laura since they met. But she's still not stupid nice like JJ is.

If the hit-man had been targeting children or some reporters family to "send a message" then her newly developed conscience probably would have made her intervene.

But she is still new to the whole having a conscience thing.
>>
>>30720524
Kimura breaks Laura's neck in target X, paralyzing her for a short amount of time.
>>
>>30720623
hindsight is useless unless you have a time machine
>>
>>30720698
Yea and all things considered, seeing that he visits the place she works in, it's probably best he doesn't live to talk about what she does on the side.
>>
>>30720733
And people said the DOOM jokes were stupid
>>
>>30720703
There is a difference between breaking her neck and removing her neck. If someone breaks my arm I don't need super powers for it to heal. If I loose the arm it's a different story entirely.
>>
>>30720733
...er, okay?

you don't have to participate
>>
>>30720768
>he visits the place she works in
This is literally the only reason I voted to kill. Like I said earlier there is a different between nice and stupid nice.
>>
>>30720698
Then there's an actual argument. Bullshit but at least it's workable.

As opposed to "it was the right choice because it was a swing and a miss for JJ's possible whereabouts"
>>
