You are ALICE. You were once a magical girl, but have now ended up having to hunt down your former comrades. As a member of the Magical Girl Hunter Bureau, it is your job to defend humanity from the Magical Menace!

Right now, you were facing down the literal magical powered version of the motherfucking Japanese battleship Yamato. At first you were flabbergasted, but then as the revelation began to sink you started to have an inkling of what might have been behind this new development.

"Bitch actually went and did it..." You mutter.

"Alice!" Leo yells, snapping you back to attention. "What the hell do we do?!"

Taking stock of the situation again, you knew you had three assault carriers and two Chinese destroyers against one magical battleship. You had no idea of the capabilities of the magical Yamato, besides the fact it could put out some serious firepower.

"All units, retreat!" You yell. "Stay back until we know what this thing is capable of!"

With that, the assault carriers and the destroyers turn hard to get distance between themselves and the battleship. Fortunately for you, the Yamato doesn't seem interested in attacking. Once it collects the surviving ambush force, it immediately begins to head out to open sea.

"Leo, get Command on the line. While you're at it, get every single fucking navy in the Pacific on the line as well. We need to get word out about this."

"Got it." Leo nods.

You then switch over to the Chinese Navy frequency.

"Hey guys, launch some missiles at that thing, will you? Let's see how it reacts."

Now that they're safely beyond visual range of the Yamato, the destroyers begin launching long range missiles at the raised ship. From your vantage point, you can see the missiles streak out towards the ship. You see the telltale sparkles of magical attacks being discharged, and most of the missiles are incinerated by bright pink energy beams. A few manage to get through, but explode harmlessly against a massive Circle protecting the ship.

Yeah, this was going to be a tough nut to crack.

"The US Navy is scrambling all available assets to intercept the ship." Leo says. "Bruttenholm has been talking to them. We'll be using the Enterprise as a temporary HQ."

"Good." You nod. "What about reinforcements?"

"Sorry, they're all committed on other missions. So other than what the local navies can provide us, it's just us, Lucy, Ivan, and Reginald's squads."

Oh yeah, might as well as China for anti-ship missiles. Could be a useful distraction for our operation.

I'm trying to think here. This this will probably have unparalleled defenses without flaw. The human nature is riddled with inconsistencies however.

Since we probably know the girl that did this, there has to be a personality defect or something we can exploit.

"Tell the others to go on ahead. We'll tail the ship for a bit longer." You say.

You sigh as you keep observing the ship. The more you look at it, the more you suspect that another of your old friends, Kanako, was behind it. The Yamato was her favorite ship, after all.

"Moooooom!" Your radio crackles with Carol's whine. "Can you please let me back on the ship? It's getting lonely down here..."

Right. Carol was here, too.

"All right, sweetie. How did things go? What happened to those two MGs in the water?"

"I ate them!" Carol says happily. A bit too happily. "They were pretty yummy!"

Egan had told you that Invaders had a certain attraction to M-Particles, and that Carol would probably be no different. You guess you shouldn't be surprised she liked to eat magical beings. You instruct your pilot to drop altitude and lower the boarding ramp, which he does. Suddenly, a black shape shoots out of the water like a cannon and lands on both feet on the deck. Carol then sheds off her Nemesis form.

"Good job, Carol." You say, a bit conflicted. She was your daughter and she did admirably on her first mission. However, she didn't just kill, but ATE two MGs. Possibly ones you might've known.

Fucking Companions.

"Oooooh, I'm sensing LOTS of magic that way!" Carol says, pointing in the direction of the Yamato. "Lots of Magical Girls!"

Huh, should've suspected multiple Magical Girls to be on the ship. No way Kanako could power the whole thing by herself.

>Yea but invaders dont have shields. I'm not sure if what they have will work.

Yes, but shields can be cracked.

I hate to use HALO here but it's quick and dirty for me.

>UNSC Orbital Defense Platforms
>Mark V "Super MAC"
>These cannons fire a 3000-ton ferric-tungsten round at 12,000 kilometers per second,[3] or 4% of the speed of light, impacting with a massive amount of kinetic energy which (assuming the mass is in U.S short tons—even though the standard MAC calculation above uses metric tons) is equal to 5.392531072x10^21 joules using standard kinetic energy calculations, 0.5 x (3,000,000 x (0.04x299792458^2) )= 5.392531072x10^21.

If it can tank something like that, we're in all kinds of trouble.

Then again I really don't recall /what/ the ODP use in this settings, if they've even been said.
>>
>>30745624
You know those nuclear reactors are designed to power nuclear carriers, not superweapons. Not even sure Egan can whip up that size in the time we have. But in sure Egan has some orbital toys that can help us.

>>30745278
Wait, I figured out how we can exploit this. This thing probably still has a radio. See if we can hail them, congratulate them for actually raising the ship, reminisce about old times, and state that we are sinking both the ship and their dreams, and piss them off. Hopefully they'll act rash and make a mistake somewhere.
>>
>>30745734

Fair point.

We need to speak with Bruttenholm and Egan to see what options we have to deal with this.

Another option is our shield breaker. Carol might be able to bring up close enough to slam it into its shield. Then again against something of THAT size. Might not work but its another possible desperation plan.
>>
>>30745734
>>30745865
Well the thing here is that it's powered by multiple magical girls. If it's like regular magic circles, then they break after a sustained attack. We just need the firepower to break through.

Spidey sense that somehow this is turning into a boarding mission somehow.
>>
>>30745929
>boarding mission somehow

Please no. Boarding actions are ugly affairs. I rather just find a way to force the ship to stop and hit with ODPs until they vaporize the ship.
>>

I know that's common sense, but this is no common ship.

You make all due haste to the Enterprise, which is about an hour's flight. Meanwhile, UAVs and nuclear attack subs courtesy of the US Navy are keep track of the Yamato as it sails. So far, there doesn't seem to be any clear indication of it headed to any specific location, but many people fear what would happen if it decides to set course to a large population center.

Finally, the Daedalus lands on the Enterprise's flight deck, and you are quickly ushered out to one of the ship's briefing rooms, where Reginald, Lucy, and Ivan are already waiting. You also notice a few Navy officers in the room as well, but before you have a chance to talk, the lights dim. The screen at the end of the room comes on line to show Bruttenholm's concerned face.

"Ah, I see you have all gathered." Bruttenholm nods. "Now, I'm sure you all already know this, but approximately two hours ago, a large magical construct resembling the Japanese battleship Yamato suddenly appeared off the coast of China. We currently have little idea of what it is capable of, other than it has extremely powerful defenses and weaponry."

"Does the Bureau have any plans of attack?" One of the Navy officers asks.

"Not at the moment." Bruttenholm sighs. "We are still gathering information."

"I ask this because if the Yamato continues on its current course, it will be in a position to threaten the Phillipines, which is a nation we are obligated to protect. This is also not mention its potential to attack any other US interest in the Pacific, including Guam, Hawaii, and even the West Coast. We're being pressured by the Joint Chiefs and the President to take this thing out as soon as possible, by any means necessary.

"Ah, the nuclear option." Bruttenholm frowns. "You do realize that there is no guarantee a single nuclear weapon can stop it, correct?"

"We have plenty of those at our disposal."

"EIther way, nuclear weapons have been and still should be a last resort." Bruttenholm shakes his head. "I will not condone the use of nuclear weapons until we have considered EVERY possibility."

"There's also ODIN..." Another Navy officer speaks up.

"Don't be daft!" Reginald yells, standing up. "ODIN project was created under the specific condition that none of its weapons systems be turned on Earth under any circumstances!"

"If I may." Egan's face suddenly materializes on the screen. "I have analyzed the current data we have and I have made some hypotheses on the nature of the Yamato.

The screen then switches to a graphical representation of the ship in question.

"As far as we can tell, this construct doesn't just look like the Yamato, it IS the Yamato. It appears it has been raised from the depths and modified magically. We're detecting no significant heat sources anywhere on the ship, meaning that it's not actually using conventional propulsion or power systems. In all likelihood, everything on the ship is being operated magically."

"Which means?" Lucy grunts.

"That conventional attacks will have little to no effect on the Yamato, even if the Circle is breached, short of total obliteration of the entire ship." Egan answers. "Taking out he propellers or rudders or engines or even the bridge won't stop it. It's not operating under any physical laws that we understand."

"So what do we do?" You ask.

"You'll have to take the source of the magic, of course." Egan says. The graphic then shifts to add a rainbow of colors to the ship. "We've detected three large concentrations of M-Particles on the fore, center, and aft of the ship. We suspect these areas are "cores" consisting of multiple Magical Girls whose sole purpose is powering the ship. Eliminate those, and we eliminate the power keeping the Yamato up.

"Or, we kill the one Magical Girl controlling the whole thing." You add.

"Yes, that too." Egan nods.

"And how do you suppose we do that?" Reginald asks.

"Why, you board the ship of course." Egan shrugs. "You have four whole squads, right? That should be ample manpower to handle a few Magical Girls.

"That's crazy!" Reginald spits.

"Maybe not." Another officer, this one a Marine, steps forward. "We've got two carrier battle groups' worth of firepower at our disposal. We can at the very least take down their Circle, which will allow a mass air assault. We land troops on the ship in numbers and we'll just plow right over them."

"Or, we can do this the smart way and do this subtly." Lucy sighs. "We can insert below the waterline. They didn't plug all the holes in the ship, so that will give us a way in. Then we just take them out from the inside."

"Yeah, but it'll suck for the infiltration team." The Marine points out.

Bruttenholm's face then turns to you, as if he was expecting you the make the decision.

Goddamnit.

These options are not mutually exclusive. We will launch a massive assault to act as a feint. The above water team will attempt an assault and can fall back if necessary.

Meanwhile while their attention is drawn, the underwater team strikes.

Alice will be part of the diversion, due to our high profile. Also, see if we can find a body double for Carol, to trick them into thinking that Carol is with us and not underwater.

Also, someone get me a radio. I need to hail them, congratulate them for raising the ship, and make personal assurances that I am coming to sink them.

Your fellow squad leads all nod, which convinces the Navy guys, too. However, you just think they want the excuse to utterly unload everything they have.

"All right, we'll make the necessary arrangements." One of the officers nods. "What roles will your squads be playing?"

You know I just thought of something... Didn't Alice feel Carol through the test tube thing she was in with what little magic she's got going through her? Wouldn't that mean a full blown MG be 'invader!' and ruin the whole idea of stealth?

I could be wrong about this but I just recalled that scene is all.

"All right, but take good care of her." You sigh.

"I will." Lucy nods. "I'll treat her as one of my own squad."

Well, as far as Lucy was concerned, that was a pretty reassuring promise. You turn to hug Carol.

"Okay, Carol, you're going to be following Auntie Lucy for a while."

"Auntie?" Lucy raises and eyebrow.

"Just roll with it." You say before turning back to Carol. "She'll take good care of you. Just listen to what she says, okay?"

"Okay!" Carol nods.

"Oh right, you might find a use for this." You hand Lucy your shield breaker gauntlet. "One of Egan's toys. Supposedly able to punch through a shield, but I never had a chance to try it. I know punching is not exactly your style, but I hope it helps."

"Thanks." Lucy nods.

"All right! We're moving out!" A Navy officer announces. "I suggest you all get to your aircraft!"

With that, the assault carriers begin to take off from the Enterprise. Below, you can see planes being brought up and launched sa well. No doubt to support the attack. Lucy and Ivan's assault carriers move off rendezvous with a nearby submarine, which would carry them as close to the Yamato as possible. You and Reginald's assault carrier make a beeline straight for the ship.

"So, Alice." Leo takes a seat next to you. "You know the MG behind this whole fiasco, don't you?"

"What makes you think that?"

"Come on, Alice, I know when you're trying to hide something." Leo laughs.

Ugh, dredging up memories of old friends... it was something that you didn't particularly like.

"Yeah, I knew her." You sigh. "Back before the War, there was that one time a Titan-class Invader showed up just outside Tokyo, so Magical Girls were coming in from all over to help fight it. Well, me Mirai, and Joanna decided to get in on the action, so we hopped a plane there. We ran into a Japanese MG, Kanako was her name. A real ship otaku, she was. Could tell you the class and name of any warship just by looking at it."

"And her power?"

"Ah, she could summon up lots and lots of guns. Very effective, if she didn't have such piss poor aim." You crack a slight grin. "Anyways, that's when we first met. We kept in touch for a while after that. She always told me how it was her dream to use her power to raise the Yamato so it could fight for Japan once again."

"Ah, it makes sense now." Leo nods.

"No, no it doesn't." You shake your head. "The Kanako I knew never would have done something like that."

"Why?" Leo asks.

However, before you can answer, the Daedalus shakes from massive turbulence.

"We're coming up on the target! Brace for evasive maneuvers!" The pilot warns.

Pink beams lance through the sky as the Yamato tries to draw a bead on your craft. However, being on the edge of BVR, actual targeting is proving tough. You see missiles from both ships and planes soaring through the sky as well, and the defensive fire aimed at you begins to lighten up in order to deal with the missiles. Explosions rip through the air both over and right on top of the Yamato.

You decide to hang back and let the Navy pound the ship some more. More and more missiles streak in. While the Yamato does its best to intercept the missiles, there's just so many coming in that it has no hope of intercepting all. You see explosions continually ripple across the ship's Circle, and while it holds, you're definitely sure it's taking its toll on the protective barrier.

Decide to spice things up a bit, you key your radio to broadcast on an open frequency.

"Hey, Kanako, it's me, Alice! Remember me?" You say. "Remember what I said about Japanese ships before? Well I lied. They all sucked ass. No radar, bad optics, shitty guns, and you couldn't even shell out for decent steel! No wonder you got your butts kicked in WWII!"

There's no answer, but you see a pink beam lance out in the Daedalus' general direction.

Yep, if you didn't have their attention before, you did now.

"Alice, the ship is changing course and increasing speed!" Lucy yells. "What the hell did you do!?"

You then notice that the Yamato is now going at full speed. Fast. Faster than any ship in the water rightly should.

Right towards you.

Maybe your distraction worked a bit TOO well...

"Those big guns are too clunky to hit us up close." You say. "Kanako's smart, but she overlooks the most obvious shit all the time. Plus, she thinks big guns solve everything."

"Isn't that your belief, too?" Leo raises an eyebrow.

"Shut up. It's different." You insist. The Daedalus dips down as it closes distance with the Yamato. As you predicted, its main guns can't track you properly this close, leaving it to the onboard crew mixed with MGs and regular humans to try and repel you. You and your squad and the Daedalus spray automatic fire all along the length of the ship, but it spatters off the Circle while a mix of gunfire, missiles, and magic is thrown your way.

The entire Yamato shudders and its Circle begins to flicker rapidly as it begins to fail.

Suddenly, the cannons stop firing and the Yamato begins to shoot off into the water like a goddamn speedboat. Meanwhile, missiles are still chasing it down, with some even punching though parts of the Circle and hitting the ship proper, sending crew and debris tumbling into the water.

You give Leo a tired smile.

"Worried, Leo?"

"Of course I am!" He says.

"Heh, that's cute." You grin before taking a running leap out of the Daedalus. For a brief few seconds, you're sailing over the water until the Yamato's ruined deck suddenly fills your vision. You land with a loud WHUMP, and immediately ready your weapons. However, there was nobody around. No doubt chased below by the bombardment, as well as moving to repel Lucy and Ivan's assault on the last core.

However, looking up, you see a very familiar MG on top of the bridge tower...

Believing Lucy and Ivan could handle themselves, especially with Carol supporting them, you make a beeline for the command bridge, sprinting up the stairs to your target.

Kanako, for the most part, is already waiting for you, standing calmly. She has a bit of a serene, though annoyed expression.

"Oh yeah, and Kanako." You say, poking your head out. "Carriers made battleships obsolete anyways."

Before Kanako can retaliate or retort, the aft section of the ship explodes, sending the entire ship shuddering and it grinds to a halt. Both you and Kanako are briefly knocked off your feet.you suddenly feel a sinking feeling. Probably because the ship, with no more magic to sustain it, was actually literally sinking.

You dodge Kanako's opening salvo, ducking back down the stairwell as her cannons rip through more steel bulkheads. Your return fire seems somewhat paltry in comparison, but Kanako is wary of the dangers of getting hit by .50 caliber rounds. However, those cannons of hers make her a very large and easy target, and you get a few solid hits in. However, you feel the tower beginning to tilt and you realize that the entire damn ship was not only sinking, but capsizing!

The entire ship literally falls to its side, causing the command bridge to slam into the water, shaking both you and Kanako around. In an eyeblink, the command bridge is underwater, and you have the fight the urge not to breathe it in. Trying to stay calm to conserve your air, you look around for an exit, and see you can easily swim out one of the shattered bridge window.s

Meanwhile, Kanako doesn't seem to have fared so well. Part of the bridge structure had actually collapsed on her, pinning her down. She tries to free herself by firing her canons, but that only makes the situation worse by bringing more debris down on her.

Well, you COULD try helping her, and risk getting killed in the process either by drowning or her just killing you for getting close. Or you could just swim out now and leave her to die.

That is an excellent suggestion

Or maybe it seems that both of us were trapped and we have one last heartfelt moment, as we were both prepared to die, but then at the last moment she decides that we are still Alice?
>>
>>30752339
Or we pull her out, she shoots us and leaves us to die as she escapes.

Let's play dice interpreter!
>>
>>30752377
That be nice.

With one might pull, you manage to yank Kanako free from the wreckage. Snaking an arm around her waist, you start swimming for the window. However, too much time has passed, and you've exerted too much effort trying to carry Kanako with you, and your lungs are already starting to burn. You're afraid you're not going to make it. Top it off, Kanako seems to regain her senses and aims her cannons...

...and fires straight down. The recoil from the guns actually causes the both of you the jet up to the surface, sending you both flying for a brief second.

At this point, the Yamato had already sunk completely beneath the waves, and the US Navy had already moved in. Before you know it, you're both surrounded by numerous boats and helicopters. You see The infiltration team being pulled out of the water, as well as Carol swimming her way to you.

"Why...?" Kanako croaks as she coughs out some seawater.

"We were friends once, you know." You shrug. "Didn't seem right just leaving you to die like that."

"What the hell are you, Alice." Kanako blinks.

"I wish I knew." You say sadly.

>And that's it for tonight! Be sure to tune in next week for the next thread! And don't forget PJ Witches on Friday and Cyberpunk Idols on Saturday!

Thanks for running merc.

Did the conventional forces suffer any casualties in the battle?

How about Lucy and Ivan's squad?
>>
>>30752410
We'll most likely found out next week. Wait until then.
>>
>>30752389
Glorious as ever Merc.
>>
>>30752410
Conventional forces did not really suffer any losses since they kept most of their involvement BVR.

Combined, Lucy and Ivan's squads suffered about 20% casualties. Would've been worse if Carol wasn't with them.

A winner.

Thanks for running merc. It was a great session.

>>30752430
so how many MG did Carol eat?
>did she get any new toys?
>>
>>30752430

>20%

damn, thats pretty high.

Hopefully not all of that was KIA.
>>
>>30752442
A couple, but the Cores were taken out by liberal use of explosives, which is SOP when fighting MGs in close quarters.
>>
>>30752430

Was the airstrike good or bad for lucy and ivan?

We may called in a danger close strike.
>>
>>30752463
Good, since it meant they didn't have to slog through the last half of the ship to reach it.

everything went well as it could have been, then.

This operation went surprisingly well even though we had a few hiccups here and there.
