"I found something!" Hana says, picking up a box from under a tarp. "AP-M74 37mm..." She reads off the top of the box. You take a look over your shoulder at her as she opens it. "Ammo!" Well- it's not a tank but it's money that Anzu doesn't have to spend to keep the team shooting. "There's a whole bunch of them under here... 75mm shells too!"

You are Commander Russells of the M26E1 Pershing Heavy Tank "Black Jack" and yourself and anyone you could find- Hana, Miho and Mako, as well as your loader, Roy and his sister Rose, your gunner. Rounding out the search team are the Volleyball club- or as their known now, Duck Team.

You've spread out over a half dozen storage lockers in the hull beneith the school looking for, well, anything you can get your hands on. You'd been hoping to find one of the missing tanks, but after an hour of searching Hana's had the only big find. You walk over, helping her pull the tarp off the pile and admiring what looks to be about half a ton of ammunition- American 75mm and 37mm shells evidently meant for the M3 Lee.

"Great job! How did you find it?" The pile was hidden behind several other piles of various supplies- from the looks of it, Hana had moved several boxes to even find the tarp.

She smiles politely, blushing a bit at the compliment. "It was nothing... I could smell it, actually." She says, tapping her nose. "Gunpowder and metal... They have a distinct smell..."

You blink at her- you couldn't smell a thing but musty air and mold. Miho walks up behind you. "It's because Hana does flower arrangement..." She clarifies, smiling at her gunner.

Hana nods in agreement. "The best arrangements are as pleasing to the nose as they are to the eye..." She says wistfully- as quiet as she was you'd never ceased being impressed by just how many things Hana was good at- her gunnery was among the best on the team, you'd seen awards for her flower arrangement in the case in school and, from what you've heard she's amazing cook."

You clap her on the shoulder. "Well, keep up the great work!" You say with a broad smile. "I'm going to go check on everyone else."

I think it's Viking Marine High School? Yeah, probably Swedes.
Bosporo is the Poleaboo school.

Unfortunately, I'm not sure if Viking did face Koala. Probably likely though, based on this pic.

I do still remember the line-ups. In show canon, viking beat koalas and then got beat by Pravda, who then got beat by Oorai who went on to the finals.

It's gonna be different this time around. Kinda.

You put the tarp back down and Miho turns to you. "We'll note its location for now- there's too much to bring up by ourselves." She says, before congratulating her gunner. "Great job, Hana! If we keep following your nose, I'm sure we'll find more!"

"I'll go check on the others- maybe they've found something." You say, heading for the storage garage's exit. Unfortunately the thick steel walls means that cellphone communication is almost impossible so you'll have to talk to the other groups face to face- a hundred feet or so down the hallway you enter the next storage section- a side hallway the leads to a half-dozen more inter-linked storage garages.

Rose and Mako were in charge of this section- you cup your hands around your mouth and shout. "Yo!" echoes downs the hall and, a few seconds later Rose's head pops out from one of the doors.

"What?" She says at a normal, indoor tone.

"Sorry." You apologize as you walk towards the open door. "Didn't know how deep you guys might be."

"Metal walls, Russells- sound carries." She corrects. "What's up?"

>>
>>30811711
The 37 was weak, but it wasn't considered too weak for it's role. By the time it's anemic power was a real problem, it's primary platforms were being superseded by 75mm-armed Chaffees anyway.

While a squeezebore adapter was tested for the 37mm, it was never progressed beyond trials.

Only a few squeezebores ever saw realistic service - the actual littlejohn for thr British 2 pdr on Armoured cars and Tetrarchs(Contrary to what WoT tells you, it was never used on the Matilda),
And three little-known German ATGs, the 4.2cm Pjk41, the 2.8cm sPzB41, and the 7.5cm PaK41.
>>
>>30811907
Ah, thank you.

Wasn't the 37mm used as a AT gun originally in North Afirca?
>>
>>30812051
iirc the Lee's turreted gun is a 37mm, isn't it?
>>
>>30812088
It was but they relied mostly on the 75mm hull gun
>>
>>30812100
i wonder if we could fabricate a brand new little john for the Lee's 37mm. would it still be legal to use in the matches i wonder?
>>
>>30812152
I would assume to spec reproductions with period steel alloy would be legit if a model of Lee had one installed historically.
>>
>>30812051
It was, but not for long - the 57mm M1 replaced it very quickly since it was unsuited in that role.

Since it's primary role by the time AMERICA entered the war was as either a secondary weapon, or as a weapon for Reconnaissance Vehicles (Post-Normandy Stuarts, M8s, etc.), they didn't bother with improving it extensively, given their replacements were packing 75mm guns (Chaffees, Wolfhound prototype, etc.)

The Brits, on the other hand, were *heavily* invested in the 40mm 2pdr gun, as it was pretty much their main tank gun from 1939 to 1943, with 6pdrs and 75mms just beginning to creep in in '43.

Because of this they invested quite heavily in researching ways to improve it, and Squeezebores were ultimately the solution - though by the time they were developed enough to be practical, 2pdrs had been relegated to Armorued Cars, Airborne Tanks, and the Asia theater.

Germans developed the things because they kinda had a monopoly on wacky projects. They dropped it due to tungsten shortages.

>>30812152
I don't believe one was ever installed on a Lee in tests; it was primarily theoretical work.

Also I believe it would be more trouble than it's worth, Barrel wear on Squeezebore adapters is monstrous, and the barrels tend to crack and break after a hilariously low number of shots. We'd basically need to replace the Lee's 37mm after every match.

Plus it requires special tungsten-cored ammunition, and I expect Momo would have an aneurysm over the cost of that.
>>
>>30812209
good point. the school is hard up for funds anyway.
>>
>>30812209
The way the ammo works in GuPVerse is that its a single type of shell that tells the computer in the tank being fired upon what's shooting at it, or something (ex APCR vs AP vs HE, etc)...I think. Not at home so I don't have access to any of my resources, they're all burnt down.
>>
>>30812279
While that's true, there are physical considerations in the design of a squeezebore. You would need a specifically-made shell that's designed not mash itself into scrap when fired out of the squeezebore, just as you wouldn't try to fire a 75mm shell out of a 37mm gun.

And given the relative rarity of squeezebore equipment in general, and the probable uniqueness of a 37mm Lee-adapted squeezebore, the shells would probably have to be custom-made to spec. Which would be a hilariously expensive exercise.
>>
>>30812297
I was more referring to you mentioning the cost of the tungsten ammo than anything else, heh.
>>
>>30812319
Yeah, I should've specified that I was referring to needing custom Squeezebore ammo, sorry. I'm more accustomed to debating it's merits in terms of real tanks, not GuP.
>>
btw, I know I've mentioned it already, but housefires suck! :D
>>
"So, you guys find anything?" You say, ducking into the garage through the slightly-opened door. "No B1's?" You say, cracking a smile.

"Oh sure- we found a whole room of them- figured we'd wait until you came in here to tell you." Rose says dryly. "As for what we've found- not much. Mostly parts- by the markings its mostly for the Panzer IV and 38(t)." She shrugs. "Lot of pieces for tanks we don't have too-" She kicks a small wooden box towards your feet- it's labelled for a PzKw.V, better known as a Panther. "Lot of German equipment but nothing usable."

You sigh, a bit disappointed. "How much have you checked?" You ask, deflating a bit as you take a seat on a conviently-sized crate.

Rachel, going back to her work doesn't look back at you. "Just this first room- we're almost done." She says, picking up a small crate and putting on a stack of other crates.

Wasn't the 57mm the 6-Pounder gun?

Also couldn't you just installed a 75mm gun on a Stuart/Scott, How many rounds will it hold?]

The one thing I always have a hard time in finding about tanks is how much ammunition they carry on some models
>>
>>30812527
>Wasn't the 57mm the 6-Pounder gun?

Yes.

>Also couldn't you just installed a 75mm gun on a Stuart/Scott, How many rounds will it hold?

The M8 Scott had a short 75mm Howitzer anyway. The M8 the namefag was referring to was the M8 Greyhound armoured car, which had a 37mm gun.

No, you could not put the longer M2 or M3 75mm gun on a Surat/Scott, it would scarcely fit and the recoil would break the turret. Plus, it wasn't ever either done nor planned, so it wouldn't be Tankery legal anyway.

>>
>>30812586
Do you have an actual reference saying that's the Sherman's M3 Gun?

Because the longer 75mm pack howitzer on the M8A1 was also called the M3, as was the 37mm.

Also based on the visible text on that article alone, there is only indication to suggest that the 37mm M3 is mounted on the M8 Turret. Do you have another page or reference indicating that it's a proper 75mm tank gun on there?
>>
>>30812606
>Also why was it cancelled?
Because better stuff was nearly finished being made; i.e M10s.

Also in the article itself; there weren't enough chassis/turrets to go around.

Very well.

I shall revise my statement to "You theoretically could put the M3 Gun in a Scott, but you wouldn't if you were sane because it would be fucking pointless."

I still maintain it would not be feasible in a Stuart turret, however.
>>
>>30812647
Did it say how much ammunition it carried and how well it performed

Since I'm sure 75mm howitzer rounds are different then 75mm gun rounds
>>
>>30812687
But they did and it was tested and proven.
>>
>>30812706
Dunno, doesn't have anything on the capacity.
>>
>>30812706
>Did it say how much ammunition it carried and how well it performed

It didn't "perform". It was a single prototype that did the basic tests to prove it wouldn't fall apart when it was driven somewhere. That's not any good indication of actual, real-world performance by anyone's metric.

>>30812720
They did *one* prototype to see if tit was possible, and then immediately wrote it off as redundant and unnecessary because they already had better shit rolling off the production lines.

It was not "tested and proven" in any sense of the term beyond showing that you could stick that gun in that turret and that it could drive itself around. There is no indication of actual extensive testing beyond basic trials.
>>
>>30812746
They would have done some test firing on that platform itself as well though to see if the hull wouldn't break apart after firing.

I recall they did that to a hellcat chassis with a bigger gun.

>>30812738
Wouldn't it be something like some 40 rounds since that was what the Scott carried?
>>
>>30811792

"Well, let's see what's in there then-" You're a bit impatient at this point- you were hoping for something beyond spare parts and ammunition and the lack of anything exciting is getting you antsy. You slide open the door to the next room and take a step. fumbling along the wall for the lights.

Then you kick something hard. You let out a stream of choice words, in English as you hop back against the wall on one foot. Finally finding the switch and muttering darkly about whoever left something sitting on the floor, you turn on the lights. "Ow... Ow... O-oh." You manage as you look at what you might have just broken a toe on.

"Oh." You repeat after a moment of thought. "Hey, Rose, Mako? I think I found something..." You say quietly starting at the object on the floor.
A few seconds later Rose sticks her head through the door. "What is i-Oh." She says, cocking an eyebrow up in interest. And a few seconds after that, Mako pokes her head around the same doorway.

"Well, that looks useful." She says.
