You are John James Green. You’re thirteen.

You have a lot of things going on your head. Some of them just came dangerously close to leaking out, but you girded yourself and clapped down on the seams of your thoughts, keeping it all inside. A part of you desperately wanted to tell your history teacher about the fundamental wrongness that seems to have infested your sister, and about the social services people coming by this afternoon, and about many other things, but you decided not to let it slip.

Heading out into the waning afternoon, you find your sister waiting for you by the school gates, chewing her hair absently. She seems oddly started when she sees you, but it passes instantly, and your sister slips back into her incorrigible smile.

“Hey, kiddo.” She seems to falter somehow. In the stretching of the light, for that moment of indecisive silence, you remember her as a burning icon, her edges infused with the failing sun. It was just the light, just the angle of things, but it was – it was like she became, for a moment, something not entirely human.

“Have nice day?”

Seeing as the hot topic is currently the recent choice if powers, and the same questions seem to come up in each thread now, imma just get the answers out of the way right from the get-go:

>1. Is Draconic Breath LVL1 basically pepper spray?

No. The amount of pain it causes and the coverage it has of a person’s body is significantly greater than that of pepper spray. It’s more like being hit by a concentrated stream of boiler gas. Additionally, if concentrated long enough, it can ignite clothing.

>2. Would Sonic Scream have been more effective against Kimura?

Yes. Draconic Breath can’t really hurt her.

>3. Will use of Draconic Breath help JJ get over his fire phobia?

Yes. Successive uses (will positive results) will add up to a completed Phobia Trial. It can do the opposite also.

>4. Will Draconic Breath require a test to use?

Yes. It’ll be a Will check at DC20 minus your current number of complete Phobia Trials. So, presently, DC18. This will go up and down as JJ succeeds/fails to face his fear, and vanish completely once he’s completed the fifth trial.

>4. Why doesn’t Draconic Breath have more Extrapolatives?

It’s not a versatile mutation – what it offers in power it loses in utility. Them’s just the shakes.

Oh, and as far as I know, nobody got the cameo from yesterday, so no bonus. But I only promised something because it was a particularly difficult one to place anyway.

>>
>>30835855
I asked a while ago on twitter but I don't think you answered, but at flight lvl3 could we use both set of wings at the same time or do you lose the arm wings when you get the back wings(which personally I don't think makes any sense)?
>>
>>30836055
I'd think losing arm wings and getting back wings.

It makes the wings more useful as you can carry stuff now and fly.
>>
>>30836055
you lose the arm wings

It makes it so that you can still carry things while flying.
>>
>>30835855
Question: If we level up a muration like dragon breath to level two do we still have the ability to use it in it's level one manifstation? Would of waited until end to ask, but won't be able to stay until end.
>>
>[X] No, you didn’t.

“It was… it was kinda…” Good, right?

It was a great day. That bit where you forgot your bag and you didn’t have your book and you made a complete stuttering moron of yourself in front of your entire history class, that bit was fantastic. You can only hope it blows over when it’s time for the swim team to pull a victory over the blaggards of one of the nearby towns.

“…It wasn’t horrible.”

Joyce winces, and pats you on the back.

“That bad, huh?” Her hand rests on your shoulder, its weight reassuring you of the solidity of things, that there are vistas of life removed from classrooms and history and school and being young in general. “Come on, I’m gonna order pizza in. Can’t get the damn oven to work…”

You smile lopsidedly. Yeap, that’s your sister.

As you wrench open the door to your car, one of the guys from class – you remember his name was Quire, but that’s it, his first name vanished into the depths of time – jerks by, barging your shoulder.

“Spaz.”

>>30836055
Haha, that's an interesting one. I intended that you just lose the arm wings, but you know what? I'll let you pop out both if you want. It could be fun.

>>30836153
Yeah, you can still use it as LVL1 potency.

I posted this on twitter but is this going to be the rolling mechanic for those will check?

>Outside of battle:
We roll before using the power as JJ contemplates on whether or not to use the power.
Crit fail = flash back and JJ loses a phobia point
Fail = JJ doesn’t use the power
Success = JJ uses the power (multiple times add up to a phobia point)
Crit success = depends on what he’s doing

>Inside combat
JJ uses the power on pure instinct. We roll to see JJ’s reaction to the fire
Crit fail = JJ faint’s like a bitch and JJ loses a phobia point
Fail = JJ becomes paralyzed with fear
Success = uses the power like normal (multiple times add up to a phobia point)
Crit success = depends on what’s happening

JJ has absorbed powers from those around him in nearly every single choice.

Fire breath was the only one were we had a contacted mutant (our ex) to reap the power from.

WHY
>>
>[X] Ignore.

You could beat this guy up. Yes, you could. He’s skinny. You’re not a macho macho man, but you’re not skinny. You could mush up his nose in your fists and make him bleed all over the goddamn road. For a moment, that’s exactly what you’re about to do – you ARE going to fucking disembowel this piece of shit Quire and wear his guts as a fucking ceremonial necklace.

Then... well, you don’t do that.

You remember that your sister is across the car from you. You remember that the guy’s mom is holding his hand. That ‘social services’ are coming by this afternoon, to decide if your sister is a bad enough dude to raise you right and stuff.

So, you don’t turn his face into total bloody ass. Even if you want it more than anything in the world right now. You just sigh and let it roll over you, like Jesus, or Buddha, or some other famous person who never hurt nobody. Ghandi or someone, there’s probably loads.

“Hey!” You’re disturbed from your intense not caring by a yelp of pain. “What the fuck did you just say, you little prick!?”

Your sister has him gripped by the wrist, his shoes just barely brushing at the tarmac. Quire’s face is contorted into the vista of absolute shock and humiliation of being damn near hefted off his feet by a girl, his mouth stuttering in the attempt at forming words.

“Say it again, to me, you shitburger!” Her eyes. Her eyes are bulging with rage.

You think you probably have one-point-zero seconds before the kid’s mom recovers from the shock of her son being accosted by this barbarian woman and flying into an indignant rage.

I honestly do think we need another point in wall crawling. Agility is more important tho. And I'm pretty sure everyone else will be to enticed by the flashy powers to go for something as mundane as wall crawling.

>[X] Try to calm your sister down.

No, this isn’t good.

“Hey, sis”–

“Oh my God, let go of my son, you”–

“Your son is a little shit, do you not even listen to”–

“Get your hand”–

“Sis! Joyce!”

She looks back at you, as if from a great distance. You think her eyes might pop out of her face for a second, or that she’ll scream at you too, or that she’ll just contort into a silent, furious thing, but she doesn’t do any of that. Something in your expression dulls the fire in her eyes, and, slowly, tentatively, she lets go of the kid’s wrist. He drops down on his ass and screams something at both of you, you don’t remember what exactly. You just remember your sister telling him he’s lucky his mom’s such a shit parent, before you exit the stage, time unfurling about unremarkable the moments in between, placing you in the car, on the road, at your doorstep. On the stairs.

She’s talking to them nextdoor, in the living room. The door’s ajar, and you’re not sure you’re supposed to be listening, but you can hear most of it.

“…I assure you, nobody is making you do anything, Ms Green. We have total respect for whatever decision you may…”

Someone grabs your hand. Hot skin, like fire in the veins. You glance back up the stairs, momentarily terrified at the thought of someone else in the house, but your anxiousness fades when you realize it’s just [JO-o-o-seph TYPHON], your best [bzzzzzzzzzzzzzz–] of many years. He was there with you during the car ride, after all, so why wouldn’t he be here? He’s gonna stay over so you can watch your dad’s old Godzilla movies.

“Come on.” He says. “Let’s go have fun. I don’t think you need to hear this.”

I think we all understand that you don't redo powers lightly. I just think most people don't realize what we're choosing. Questing is fast and loose rp, where rules by majority are usually harder to control. Usually this means that choices are presented in a simple fashion.

This doesn't mean in any way, shape, or form that what you're doing is wrong, Crusty, it just means that when you present 'choice', consider what will happen when you give us a 'power' that is actually a 90% chance of a fuckup. And then say no-backsies. The tone of the quest should dictate this, but dragon breath sounds cooler then sonic breath, even if sonic breath with a little bit more ingenuity would not only augment our stealth, but also allow us to hide and attack.

Additionally, when you're phrasing combat options, please do it in such a way that maybe has the stealth option at the top? JJ's spaghettied enough in combat that he probably realizes that when the choice comes down to L2 Strength/Healing vs. L4 Stealth, one is better then the other.

So how far would JJ be able to hit people with his breath? Because if it's as short ranged as the lvl 2 seems to imply.
(1 meter tongue of flame) it's less of a ranged ability and more of a melee ability, except since we're not fireproof that's kind of a terrible thing.

I'd assume that we can hit guys within at least 10 paces even at lvl 1

>[X] NO MEANS NO TYPHON.

N-N-No, no this – – isn’t right-t-t-t-t-t-t – – –

The universe crackles around you. Shadows slip and run like treacle, sparking along their edges, fiery outlines in a world of billowing, flowing mist. Everything reasserts itself. There is no one on the stairs. There never was. Why would there be, it’s just you and your sis now, and that’s that. There is nobody else out there to come and rescue the two of you. No knight. No gratuitous self-insert into your story.

Self-insert? Why’re you thinking that? What’d make think those words, in part-i-cu-l-a – –

You listen at the door, just about able to perceive two figures – one sitting, one standing – in the slim window offered by the half-closed door.

“…may have kept your case from going through the proper channels for now, but it’s not an arrangement I can promise forever.”

“…I know.” Your sister’s voice. She sounds like she’s wading through the conversation, like she’s up to her neck. “It’s just… it’s just a lot to take in, okay? I mean…”

“I understand.” Replies the first voice, calm and steady, and entirely stripped of judgement. “For now, I’ll just ask that you think about it…” He pauses, and you think you almost hear the slight, warm smile curl at his lips. “By the way, I believe we have an audience.”

>(1/2)
>[X] You guess this guy caught you. No point in hiding.

Tentatively edging the door open, you all but tiptoe your way in.

You remember your sister having this kinda worried, kinda angry expression when you meet her eyes, and turning away from her quickly. You remember being surprised – you didn’t realize the older guy was in a wheelchair. And he looks kinda like Picard, doesn’t he? You wonder if anyone ever tells him that.

The other one, the younger one, stands at his side, and smiles down at you from behind a pair of red-tinted shades.

Jeez, shades indoors. And in the evening, too.

What a douchebag.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

You cough, the sensation coming to you in waves. Your voice gurgles, like something from deep under the sea, like something that was never meant for land. You become progressively aware of the frantic, sickly heaving of your lungs, and you belch up a stream of thin, foul-tasting fluids.

You are John James Green, mutant vagrant.

>(2/2)

You shiver in the dark. Your skin is slick with some, some slippery, cool liquid. Amniotic fluid, that’s what it reminds you of, the stuff of birth, the stuff of being discharged into life. The by-product of meeting the world. You wretch again, and more of the stuff comes out. God. Where are you?

Floor’s hard. Cold. Metal. No breeze.

You’re inside.

Your rub the sticky miasma out of your eyes and peer through the dark, your senses quickly acclimating, sketching out the world in an increasingly complex pattern of black and grey definition. You think you’re in a machine, or under one – all these big, long arms of metal, all these pistons and wires. Some of the cords lie around you, occasionally sparking, but the fluid all around you doesn’t seem to be conductive.

Also, you’re naked. You’re naked inside of a machine.

“…Johnathan?”

That’s Laura’s voice. You look up, and see her slumped beside one of the great, silent machine-ribs, blood mingling with the unspecified fluid pooled across the floor. Her left arm looks twisted almost in a perfect circle, and a long, thick length of metal protrudes awkwardly from her stomach. One side of her face is burnt almost to the bone.

Her on intact eye glimmers in the dark.

So with a DC that high how do we approach using our breath? Attempting it in battle would be fucking disastrous. Do we just try to light our nightly bonfire and hope for the best? Try to get some successes? Good chance of making it worse though, fuck. Holy shit we chose the most unreliable ranged power possible, at least we have decent melee.

>[X] Get up, help.

You stagger to your feet, and the world swoons all around, walls teetering madly. You realize that you have the worst headache in the history of ever, a sharp, searing thunder of a migraine pressed ruthlessly close to the base of your spine. You rub your neck in an attempt to assuage the pain, and freeze, momentarily stopped in your tracks by the unfamiliar sensations.

There’s these… thin, leathery somethings protruding like tiny knives through your shoulder, spaced haphazardly through your flesh. Scales? Barbs? Something like that? You make a frantic check, and are relieved to find that they’re concentrated along your left shoulder blade and the upper reaches of its adjoining arm. The rest of you is protrusion-free.

Willing yourself up, you push through the feeling of vertigo that assaults you once you’re on your feet, stumbling over to Laura. She watches your approach in silence, but speaks up when you sink down next to her, responding to something you must’ve mumbled out.

“I will be fine.” She assures you. “I am resting.”

Her tone is a little slurred, and as her hair shifts, you realize that it’s because much of the skin across her jaw has been fused into a slurry of burnt meat. The eye above it is a whited-out vacuum, its edges tinged gore-red.

“I’m… imma, I’m gonna pull this”– You tap the metal bar currently ventilating her intestines – “thing out, okay?”

She nods.

You heave. It slides out, its exit punctuated by a hot, wet pop. Throwing it down, you cringe a little as you notice Laura’s arm slowly uncurling, bones reasserting from a state of total mutilation.

“Can I… can I do anything to, I dunno…” You can barely look at that arm. Help? Please. The incessant popping and cracking of her bones shifting back into place is very close to the maximum amount of gore you’re prepared to process. The smell stuffs itself all up in your lungs like a used-up rag, and each agonizing twitch almost seems to flick though you, like you’re feeling it too, from somewhere far removed and muted. “…help?”

She shakes her head slowly. Her stare bores into you. The colour is slowly slipping back into her mauled-up eye, faint whispers of green invading the solid white. You flinch a little as she pushes her intact fingers over yours, the blood on her hands soaking into the strange, oozing afterbirth that clings to your skin.

“Your eyes are different.” She says, quietly.

“My… eyes?”

Different how?

You shove the question aside, and try to stay focused. Kinda hard, what with all the creeping, lurching walls, and the incessant chatter of the migraine shifting up and down your skull.

“…What did this?”

She swallows, clearing her throat, and–

“Some wella’ truly fucked up shit, thass’ what.” Deep, booming voice. Behind you. You shift on your haunches and your heart pounds an extra few beats when you lay eyes on the huge, stooped form of Barracuda, his gold-plated grin gleaming through the dark. “Gotta say, lil’ nigga, you got a real way of gettin’ your ass into some sore-ass bull-shit.”

He’s holding his ribs like they might fall out of he lets go. Long, deep tears linger along his flesh, weeping freely. He’s still standing, though, and you can’t help but notice that he has a pistol. And nightvision goggles, for some reason?

Some of the people did know. But I don't think any of them realized the DC would be 18. And, crusty didn't confirm how the rolling would work until after the vote. i.e. that fails could make us more scared of fire. etc.
>>
>>30838700
Which means technically, it's three times more likely to help us than hurt us!
So on paper, it works out.
Of course, that's with regular dice. These are /tg/ dice, which changes the probability to...

If you read the whole thread you would already know how the rolling will work. If we use it out of battle a fail means we don't use the power. If we use it in battle a roll means we freeze up. Crusty confirmed this in the following threads.

>>30837021
>>30836376
>>
>>30838762
hmmm, from a character development standpoint it is interesting, I've just been looking at the 'staying alive and relatively intact' angle.

Maybe we should just ignore it, pretend we didn't even get it, at least until we figure out a good way to get over the phobia, practice it in non-critical situations maybe? Ask Laura to help?
>>
>>30838818
Use it to practice on bits of wood for a small communal fire every morning. Simple task, will take us a while, but it will familiarize us with it at least, and we can do it in an out of the way area to avoid any accidents.

We get some use out of it, people get warm AND someone cooks us breakfast for our troubles,
Phobia combat with positive reinforcement.
Side effects may include getting hungry after flaming in future though.
>>
>>30838818
That's really the only thing I can think it's useful for at this point. Practicality for Sonics seems pretty badass (without even tossing in combo mutations), but dat story.

You swallow, telling yourself that you’re not the one bleeding all over the floor here, and try not to think about that time Barracuda ripped that guy from Brooklyn’s jaw off. With his teeth.

“Stay right over there, ‘Cudda.” The gangster grins through the blood and the obvious pain, and shrugs, as if deciding not to skimp on a tip. “What the fuck happened here? Why are you here? Why am I here?”

Laura tightens her grip slightly.

“It wasn’t him, Johnathan.”

“Damn ‘shore it weren’t.” He grunts out, managing to somehow infect his pained tone with that incessant mirth of his. “Way I’m seein’, your girl be pretty dead if Barracuda weren’t around.”

You glance to Laura for confirmation, and she just nods.

“Me an’ her just survived some straight-up Old Testament, throw-Jonah-to-the-whale-fer-being-a-whiny-ass-little-bitch shit, so I ain’t got no mood to be finishing your girl off.” He eyes you with silent, bombastic vigour, a careful, predatory glint hiding just beyond all the pomp and heartiness. “You, tho’, I’m still considerin’…”

The fact that draconic breath could reduce our phobia is canceled out by the fact that it could increase our phobia. If we use the power in battle we face a DC 18 to not freeze up. I'm assuming that if we're in battle freezing is a bad thing.

DC 18. Not 21.

Ok people retconning is not an option, Dragon breath certainly wasn't the smartest or most reliable choice but it's one the majority voted for. So we need to make the best with it.

So practicing with matches/using a little of our breath seems like a good idea. What are your thoughts on getting Laura to help, not only could it be useful but it'll allow them to grow closer and provide interesting interactions. Thoughts anons? We really need a good plan to get this to work otherwise the power is useless and occasionally downright detrimental since it can activate instinctively and we still have to roll for it.

>[X] Promise to help him get out.
>[X] Promise that you WILL finish him off even if he kills you.

You don’t want to fight this guy. You think you could kill him, but you also think he could kill you. And, frankly, as fucking horrific and sociopathic and utterly ridiculously monstrous as he is, Barracuda is a hard man to truly hate. You have a problem with Creeper – a strict ideological and personal one, one that has set you both onto the same, inevitable road. Your problem with the ‘Cudda isn’t so much personal as it is practical – as in, you have a problem with the idea of being in the same room as him, and you have a problem with the notion of pissing him off, and you have a problem with just being close enough to get caught up in the collateral of his life.

You don’t actually want to kill him. Not the way you’ve wanted to kill some people.

You take deep breath, and fix your eyes on his.

“Well, the way I’m seeing it, you look like shit and tangling with me will get you killed.”

“Oh?” The huge man raises a jovial eyebrow, grinning his giant, flashing grin. “’Zat so?”

“Yeah.” You confirm, and you think you mostly believe it, too. “On the other hand, if you don’t bother with any of that, I can help you get out of here alive. Shit, I can even carry you to car or a… bus… or something, whatever.”

“Well, dayumn, ‘lil nigga.” His laughter booms through the dark. “If I din’t know better, I’d be thinkin’ you were justa bound ready ta’ wet a muthafucka.”

You breathe out a quiet sigh of relief, and glance over at the huge, misshapen sack hanging from the ceiling. You’ve been wondering what the hell that thing is. The tear in its outer skin retches outward, rolling over your vision, like the teetering feeling of being on the edge of a long, dark drop into the unknown. A weird, electric warmth flows over you, and you think you feel those scales (barbs) on your shoulder prickle up slightly, like hairs standing to attention under the touch of a cool breeze.

“Come then, dawg, let’s get us outta this shithole.”

So.

That’s the story of how you, John James Green, ended up carrying a gangster and a small clone girl out of an abandoned factory in the dead of night. That is, after you emerged from a giant glowing flesh cocoon full of mystery fluid.

Your life is weird.

We, yes and no. Pepperspray is a liquid, so the concentration of capsaicin or whatever that look in it stays fairly consistent over the distance it's sprayed. Dragon Breath is a gas based weapon, so it's more susceptible to air currents /and/ starts dispersing immediately after leaving JJ's mouth. So technically our Breath has a larger detectable range, but it's ineffective after a few feet since its in such low concentration.

Knowing is half the Battle!

A quick aside on the subject of Draconic Breath.

A revote, while technically not a retcon seeing as you haven't used the power yet, is very, very, very unlikely. I can see that some people didn't quite realize how hard the ability would be to use. I assumed that I'd illustrated how seriously difficult fire is for JJ by now, but if I haven't, that's my failing and I apologize.

All that aside, I can't really tell just how many people are disappointed now, and how many people didn't vote for it in the first place. I'm sure there's a few of the former, but I can't rightly know, the boards functioning as they do. So a revote... would have to have a truly massive upsurge of support.

That said, while I'm leery of revotes, I am also leery of keeping a power that you'll never use. I'll be watching closely in future, and if it becomes clear that everyone's way too afraid of/disappointed in Draconic Breath (i.e. if it sees like no use), I'll likely have it atrophy away.
>>
>>30839829
The last vote was based on insufficient information. We didn't know how the rolls were going to work or that the DC was 18.

>>
>>30840075
Yea, but the amount it can backfire is just RIDICULOUS.
I mean it's not like we have a way to put out a fire if we accidently set one we didn't want, nor do we actually have ways of surviving it.
This paired up with the fact that we need to pass 2x DC18 in order to use it in combat... it's kind of ridiculous.

While I'm not for retcon, I do think it needs some sort of buff... or an ability to suck the fires back in, because otherwise I'm just too damn worried about the collateral damage we cause from the first time we roll 1 with the fire.
>>
>>30840093
you know last thread they're 1-2 anons says they're going to push for it every chance so voting it down becomes a habit because fire breath won?

4. Yeah that can happen.

I'm not gonna hide it - Draconic Breath is the hardmode option. It was intended as such. Yea, dragons are cool and whatnot, but without the other stuff that comes with being a dragon, trying to use flame breath is just a high risk, low reward ability.

Crusty, everything is hard for JJ. Giving him easy access to fire can only end badly, but I hope we can make some decent RP out of it, and not waste the X-point.
>>
>>30840157
Everything has a chance of backfiring.
Our wall climbing exploits are proof of that.
The DC18 is only in combat, outside of combat we can work to reduce the DC and eventually eliminate it. This is not going to be fast, but its gonna take a hell of allot longer if people don't get on with it.

Right now we don't produce a flame strong enough to be a great danger, its more like scalding gasses. Even level 2 will be limited damage potential. We can work on our phobia while lower level in the power before we sink into level 3 and higher.
>>
>>30840249
I take it by now you've read Crusty's "hard mode" comment?

Not really comparable because we've been able to overcome the wall climbing DC by spending an extra 2 xp since we first bought the power. Daconic Breath will have a DC until we clear our trauma of fire, and that's a big if.

I'm probably extending its initial range a bit, but beyond that, it's not getting buffed. It has the highest spread/power ratio out of all the ranged attacks It is ridiculously tough to use for you, but it can also incinerate large numbers of people instantly once you reach the higher levels.

Aside from the phobia thing, Draconic Breath's only real bigass weakness is that it doesn't deal well with invulnerable types like Molly Hayes, as it has no knockback and applies all damage through an object's surface area. I guess you could consider its sheer lethality a weakness, too, but I don't take into account JJ's personality when crafting these abilities, just the way he's mutated so far.

Crusty does award an easier DC for doing things smartly.

We go about this the right way, we can increase our chances.

Not everything we fight is going to be human, if we ever have to fight sentinels, being able to blast melt through them will be very useful.
>>
>>30840433

It's not bitching and begging.
>>
>>30840328
My thoughts are that I still don't see any reason to use the higher levels of that ability in combat considering it's risks in almost any situation.

>being able to blast melt through them will be very useful.
Soinc is armor piercing and would be just as useful against sentinels

Level 3: JJ may now modulate the frequency of his scream, allowing it to displace objects by vibrating them at the right frequency. This makes the power ideal for dismantling machinery, and can cause deep tissue damage to humans.

>>30840643

>>
>>30840550
>lvl 3 was supposed to melt metal, right?

Level 3 Draconic Breath can very quickly cause third degree burns. It will take a while to melt metal.

Here's how the ranged powers break down:

OHB: Pure, precise anti-armour.
OFB: Control and knockback, balance between penetrating power and AoE.
DB: Pure antipersonnel. High blast, high AoE, but will struggle with serious armour until the highest levels.
SC: "They bigger they are, the harder they fall". Lowest base damage, but best for taking out big, fortified stuff.
>>
>>30840594
Crusty already said that we won't need to roll until JJ realizes it can start fires. Then we will need to roll every time even when were blowing hot air.

Basically JJ will be thinking "last time I did this it started a fire. Will it start a fire this time?" That's why we'll need to roll.

the wings are not that strong anon.
Level 1: At this level, JJ may, at will, reshape his arms into a pair of leathery wings. He retains three of his digits, and though their dexterity is minimal, they keep any levels in Claws & Fangs active. He requires either a strong updraft or some height when taking off.
Level 2: At this level, JJ becomes capable of achieving flight without the need for a high start. His flight speed and aerial agility improves.

Because some evils inherent and must be removed from the world, and because soon we're going to be faced with choices like fighting sloppy (say punching a baseline human with full super strength) to rush to our allies aid, or making sure we don't kill anyone and potentially letting one of the gang die. As our failure to wait for Chat showed when we went in after Ulrich, JJ cares more about his friends than playing smart. Eventually we'll also need to start eliminating reoccurring villains - The Creeper, Kimura, JT (pretty sure he's psychotic, so not salvageable) - and when that time comes I don't want to roll to see if JJ hesitates. I don't await our friends to die as a result of JJ's weakness.

>>
>>30842235
First of all, the Hellions are not linked to us by anything.

We made one agreement regarding Creeper with them. They're not just going to come to our beck and call and be best friends.

>>30842310
Yes... and since it was suggested previously that fire breath should be used to perform arsony on Creeper's property, that becomes a moot point when Hellions come in play. That's literally their only purpose.

>>
>>30842117
Hey, nobody's trying to defend the murderhobos. But there are applications for abilities of high lethality and destruction.

To clarify. I do not want to kill with any regularity.
JJ is not a character that will ever be able to kill casually. To deny that would be to deny more than 50 threads of characterisation.
But there are certain characters that JJ has good reason to want dead.
Kimura, Creeper, Typhon, to name the more egregious offenders.
JJ has lost everything he's had, and come close to losing it all again, because of these people, and people like them.
His whole world has burned down around his ears. It's very much in character for him to want to do the same in return, whether consciously or not.
So does it not make sense that he would begin to develop powers of a horrifying, destructive and lethal nature? And what, to JJ, more clearly fits in his subconcious mind as meeting those criteria?

Yes, the DC is daunting. Maybe even crippling. But here's the thing.
That doesn't matter.
It's a game mechanic. Allowing that to have any impact on the decision making process is metagaming.

I admit, I'm not all that happy with this result. It's not what I voted for, and we DO have reason to suspect samefagging because of, yes, fucking QTG.
But it makes sense. Too much sense. It makes more sense than developing any of the other powers, regardless of how much some amongst us would wish otherwise.

I just can't see a way to justify a not-quite-a-retcon.

>>30842376
Removing a phobia success is only on critfail - score 1
Earning a phobia success is on 18, 19, 20.
Three times more likely to advance than fall back. Assuming a success, future rolls are four times as likely. Then five.
After that, the phobia is overcome.
Conversely, even assuming a critfail at the start, while our chances are reduced, it's still 2-to-1 in our favour.
Ergo, statistics are on our side.

Yes. It’ll be a Will check at DC20 minus your current number of complete Phobia Trials. So, presently, DC18. This will go up and down as JJ succeeds/fails to face his fear, and vanish completely once he’s completed the fifth trial.

But that's the logical position, and JJ's attitude to fire is intrinsically not logical.

Whether the power actually serves as a purposeful weapon is irrelevant to this particular argument.

That is a good point, assuming it was in reference to the statistical portion of the post. But we need WoG to confirm either way.
If I'm remembering correctly, two successes in a row are required to lower DC, but that might just be my interperetation. Perhaps ask Crusty for clarification next thread?
>>
>>30842925
left over furniture
ruined signs
junked cars

those buildings would be bulldozed and be vacant lots if NYC gave a shit about them.

we didn't pick the scar for its real estate value.
>>
>>30841143
Just came back home, but I'd have voted for wings. Thanks m8
>>
>>30842957
Do the math over three rolls. It's actually 14.2something for a one and 38.idontremember for 18+.
>>
>>30842951
its winter. snow is everywhere and the place isn't made of oily rags

>>30842987
it and subdermal armor where the only locks anon.
>>
>>30842968
So let the people burn because they're too poor to live anywhere else?
>>
>>30843012
pretty much
>>
>>30843007
You clearly know nothing about urban fires. The point you should be making is that the city disconnected any gas lines to the scar a long time ago and most of the place is burn out anyway,
>>
>>30843007
Doesn't matter if there is snow or not, the heat from a burning building will ignite the buildings next to it unless it's stopped.
>>
>>30843012
Embrace the murderhobo anon, it is the future.

just kidding, I hope.
>>
People keep trying to make up reasons why DB is useful after the fact. The best way to get over his fear is to start a camp fire in the scar then see how close he can get to it.

Do this a couple of times and we might just get over the fear. But, even after we get over the fear murder hoboing is the only thing it good for. One of our most dangerous enemies is completely immune to it.

Yes creeper, typhon, and Kimura need to die but we don't need DB to kill them. We can literally tear people in half. It's not that big of deal if we keep it but stop pretending it isn't a shit power.
>>
>>3084281
Okay, stop puting words in my mouth. Second, the correlation I was making is that if we just start killing people for money, we'd be doing the exact same thing for Creeper hence why bothet being antagonistic? I get killing Kimura or Typhoon or Creeper, but Hitman JJ does not make sense from a narrative perspective
>>
>>30843012
It's them or our ability to effectively use draconian breath.
>>
>>30843012
Gaby was the only other person we've bumped into there in 50+ plus threads.

and we can scope out buildings in case there are fellow squatters or just pick a building that's too wrecked to be habitable, like if a wall or a roof is missing.

>>30843053
forgot about the gas lines anon, good point

>>30843054
lv1 ain't gonna torch a block anon. gonna be a shitstorm to get people to train it let alone vote to power it up to really dangerous levels
>>
>>30843056
I'm not a "thou shalt not kill" person, but pointless arson to test a new power is just retarded.
I mean Hellions can take out those dens easy and they've a reason to as well.
>>
>>30843117
A huge amount of those mutants we rescued are living in the scar now anon, it's a lot busier than it used to be.
>>
>>30843117
After the cargo ship indecent a shit ton of mutant refugees moved into the scar. So, yes there are going to be a fuck ton of squatters.
>>
>>30843080
Killing other gangsters really isn't as bad as human trafficking, murder, running a vast criminal enterprise, murder, mindraping people, murder...I think you get where I'm going with this. Look, if you want to argue moral absolutes that's fine, but I'm not really going to be able to relate since I tend to see the world in color rather than black or white.
>>
>>30843117
The plan is to get DB to 2 as quickly as possible.
>>
>>30843072
I honestly don't know why they have such a hard on for DB. It's not a very useful power.
>>
Gonna go sleep. You've yet to give me any reason to perform arson.
Even if the building is on abandoned area, the hellions want to take over their turf, not torch it. So either way it's best to let them deal with it.
>>
>>30843176
Because its cool!
>>
>>30843152
>>30843146

they can't be in every single damn building/area. there has to be at least a few decent spots with nobody around to practice.
>>
>>30843186
That's fine, ou don't have to be on board for us to do it.
>>
>>30843200
Who says we cant just take a few piles of wood to the subway were hanging out in?
>>
>>30843186
there's no money in the fucking scar. They want Creeper's turf, not an abandoned rubble mutant slumville.

>>30843225
apparently if we botch, we'll do our best imitation of the surface of the sun
>>
>>30843200
If we're practicing to get rid of the phobia we just need some of those old oil drums that you see hobos standing around in the movies. Fill them up with some flammables scavenged from the scar. The we just light the fire and see how long we can stare at the fire.
>>
>>30843225
No one, though I'm not sure why we have to actually set anything on fire to begin with. Right now just being the cause of fire, whether anything catches or not, is enough of a challenge.
>>
I still say we try to ask Laura for help, both for actual help and relationship development.
>>
>>30843252
I want to do that in the scar in an empty location.

tired of getting assumed we auto botch and burn down the scar
>>
>>30843264
this could work
>>
>>30843252
Those oil drums haven't been in NYC since the 40's. Why do you think so many hobos freeze to death every winter in that city?
>>
>>30843264
not that I'm against asking for help, but how would she help exactly?
>>
>>30843252
no risk of collateral damage and little chance of pissing anyone off. But I think the people your responding to are the new murder hobos that came around. So there's no reasoning with them.
>>
>>30843292
Just to support and possible suggestions. And maybe hugs when we break down.
>>
>>30843264
Plan set Laura on fire is a go!
>>
>>30843159
Killing gangsters is better how? One of our exes is technically a drug pusher/gangsta, the first two running with Creeper ran for him before they took too much; I'm not debating moral absolutes, I'm arguing what makes sense in character. I don't see JJ being comfortable killing gangsters because he knows some, is or has been good friends with a few. JJ is not Frankk Castle, quit pushing your murder boner
>>
>>30843292
She could somewhat force us to get rid of our fear of fire
>>
>>30843317
eh, she can regenerate.
>>
>>30843320
So, you're not going to fell any responsibility for the civilians Baracuda might murder after tonight? I think we did the right thing by saving him, quid pro quo is good for our rep, but you really aren't going to take any responsibility for the negative consequences of that act? Interesting.
>>
Laura was conditioned to be immune to fear by the best. Asking for her help is probably a good idea.
>>
>>30843336
she did get over JJ barbecuing her throat..

probably won't even need the grok roll if we give a heads up on the potential danger/spaghetti this time....

>>30843326
like what? sticking our hand in the fire? If Crusty says it will work, then I'm all for it.

basically, I want JJ's DB tests to be making pic
>>
>>30843382
Were immune to our own fire right?
Get use to create a bonfire with our dragon breath and then laura pushes us in
We realise fire anti nothin but a crack bitch and we get on with our life
>>
>>30843292
She could use a road flare on us.
>>
>>30843317
If we ask Laura to help with the fire thing she'll probably start a small fire and talk us through it as we see how close we can get. We wouldn't be using DB so there would be no danger of starting her on fire.
>>
>>30843413
>We're immune to our own fire right?
No. We're resistant, but by no means immune.
>>
>>30843446
eh we can regenerate
>>
>>30843403
I agree this is what we should do to get over the phobia. But it doesn't need to be a DB test, we could make that pic happen right now with no super powers involved.
>>
>>30843458
Yep. Now that Laura's freelancing for Felicia we don't have to worry about keeping up appearances for work.
>>

alright so DB practice
1.) ask Laura for help/advice
2.) practice making hobo fires

has Crusty said matches would count towards the phobia check? imo, I don't think they would, but best wait for clarification I suppose
>>
>>30843373
No, that's not I"m saying. We spared 'Cuda's life out of pragmatism and because we had more important shit to do then trying to take him down. I absolutely expect us to kill Cuda when we're stronger and Creeper throwd him at us
>>
>>30843621
Apologies for the poor grammat, typing on a smert phone D:
>>
>>30843599
Where do you plan to get an oil drum?
>>
>>30843621
IDK if Cuda is down for throwing in with Creeper, considering his introduction to Typhon ( that was at the address Victoria gaves IIRC?)

>>30843655
garbage can will do in a pinch if an oil drum doesn't turn up in the Scar
>>
>>30843599
Yes crusty did say that lighting matches would basically be the same as using DB. Meaning multiple successes would add up to a phobia check.
>>
>>30843689
Would you be willing to settle for a dumpster? I'm pretty sure there's an ordinance against the use of garbage cans in our section of the city to prevent basically what you're trying to do, start fires in them.
>>
>>30843724
I'm fine with Dumpster.

any decent sized waste receptacle will do. Beggars can not be choosers.
>>
>>30843714
Clearly the fastest way to beat the phobia is to start smoking cigarettes, the nicotine should calm our nerves and positively reinforce the use and safety of fire at least on a small scale.

On the downside, cigarettes are expensive and the smell will easily give away our position when cloaked.
>>
>>30843714
and the critfail -1 to successive checks comes with it too?

>>30843661
Lets hope not. Also, fuck Creepet
>>
>>30843778
I still imagine JJ taking a drag every now and then too anon but cigs are expensive and I'm pretty sure most anons would be against stealing (the sweet sweet karma point potential is too irresistible)
>>
>>30843829
Hmm, so you could theoretically jump between multiple wifi hotspots. Interesting.
>>
>>30843857
Yeah, I really hope Crusty finds a better way to offer Karma points. Resisting the restating to steal food or cigarettes when we can afford to pay for them just doesn't seem like sufficient personal sacrifice to warrant one.
>>
was JJ naked this entire thread?
>>
>>30843951
Yes
>>
>>30843872
I could, but I'm stuck in my room and thete's only the one I could find. You'd think being in the heart of Seattle there'd be more unsecure wifi hotspots :(

JJ's new theme.

>inb4 JJ's dad was researching Jack Fibers and Creeper is actually OUR MOM

why do all the male antagonists have an unhealthy interest in JJ?
>>
>>30844110
I'd put one more lvl into it, maybe.
>>
>>30843446

What? I totally remember Crusty saying we're completely immune to our own fire.
>>
>>30844442
Ask him next time.
