You are Captain WILLIAM PIERCE, a combat rescue officer of the United States Air Force.

You're currently trying not to fall asleep on a bus as it shuttles you back to your hometown. You and your were granted about two weeks leave thanks to a lull in the fighting between NATO and the Soviet Union, and you were taking that chance to go visit home. You watch as empty farmland forest zips by the window. Your hometown was pretty far inland, east of Los Angeles, so it would be quite a drive to reach there. However, if you remember correctly, you were almost at you destination.

Another thing on your mind was you'd be spending some time with you witches for the latter half of your leave period. You were actually going to be having some alone time with Janice, too. However, the exact plans were still kinda fuzzy...

Ah, now you remembered. You were going to go visit her. Well, it would be pretty interesting, since Janice had told you previously that she had a pretty big family.

Your train of thought is then interrupted by loud snoring and you sigh. You had also managed to convince Bree to come along, even if she was a bit reluctant about the idea of coming home. Rather than her usual attire, Bree was just wearing a simple hoodie and jeans. You feel she didn't want to draw attention to herself. She did have sort of a point though, since you were still wearing your standard Air Force BDUs and you were constantly being stopped by well wishers and fellow servicemen and the like.

Bree snores loudly again. Honestly, she always finds the most inconvenient time to do that.

You decide to let sleeping witches lie and leave Bree alone. You're waaaaay past the age to prank her in her sleep.

The bus driver then announces that he needs to take a piss and pulls the buss off the road to a nearby rest stop. Some of the other passengers get up to stretch their legs or take a bathroom break themselves. You go out to get some fresh air, and notice a nearby pay phone. A quick check of your pockets reveals you've got just enough change for a single phone call.

You quickly dial your home phone number. You're actually surprised you still remember it. The phone rings a few times before you hear a click as the receiver is picked up.

"This is the Pierce residence." You hear your mother's familiar voice.

"Hi, Mom." You say, trying to sound casual. "Just calling to let you know, our bus is almost to town. We'll probably be at the station in about half an hour."

"Oh, that's wonderful!" You mom says happily. "I'm sorry, but I"m still preparing dinner, and your father isn't back from work yet. I'll send Charlie over to pick you up!"

"Thanks, Mom." You grin. "I'd love to talk more, but I gotta go. I think our bus is leaving soon."

"All right, we'll talk more when we get back!"

You briefly consider hanging up the phone, but you then remember that you did not tell your parents that Bree was with you. It had honestly slipped your mind, as she had made her decision after you informed them you were coming home.

Might as well not tell them and see if get a happy tearful reunion or just really awkward silence because telling them now really isn't going to stop what's about to happen or change any plans they may already have laid out. We're far past the point of the return.

"Oh right, Mom, I almost forget." You say, pulling the phone back to you. "Bree's actually with me. I managed to convince her to visit as well."

"Really?" You hear your mom gasp. "You're not pulling my leg, are you!?"

"No, I'm being serious here." You say, glancing back at the bus. "I convinced her to give it a chance. So please, please don't mess things up, okay? Bree is really trusting my word here."

"O-Oh my, I need to prepare another seat then!" You can tell your mom was now all flustered. "Oh dear, your father needs to know this too!"

"Well, I gotta go, Mom." You grin. "Love you! See you soon."

"Bye Will, have a safe trip!"

You hang up the phone and quickly jog back to the bus. You make it just in time for the driver's headcount before the bus pulls out of the rest stop and back onto the road. More time passes and finally you can see the first signs of your hometown. First is the welcome sign, and then a bunch of scattered houses until you reach the interior of the town itself. The bus finally stops at the local station, and the passengers all begin to disembark. You lightly elbow Bree to wake her up.

"Euwaaa? What's going on?" Bree blinks, wiping a bit of drool off her mouth.

"We're here, Bree." You say, getting up from your seat. "Come on."

You both grab your bags and head out of the bus. You look around for Charlie when your attention is grabbed by a familiar honking sound. You follow the source to an old Mustang, with Charlie waving at you.

"Is that... Charlie?" Bree blinks.

"Yep. He never left." You say.

"Damn... he's... grown." Bree mutters.

"Yep." You nod.

"Yo! Will! Nice to see you're still alive!" Charlie cackles as he bear hugs you. He then turns to Bree and his jaw drops. "Holy shit, Bree, I never expected to see you back here!"

"Nice to see you too, Charlie." Bree smiles warmly.

"You've... grown." Charlie says awkwardly.

"Heh, yeah, you too." Bree sputtered.

Huh. That was odd.

You look at Charlie, and then Bree. You don't say anything out loud, though. However, you give a bit of a smug grin once you figure things out. Charlie and Bree both notice it and turn away quickly.

"ANYWAYS, we should be going before it gets dark." Charlie says a bit too loudly.

"Yeah, let's go." Bree nods.

Still grinning smugly, you follow Charlie back to his Mustang. Bree decides to sit in the back so you ride shotgun. A loud snoring signifies that Bree was asleep again. Jesus, was she really this sleep deprived?

"So, Charlie, how long?" You ask.

"What are you talking about?" Charlie tries to play dumb.

"HOW LONG."

"Errrr... I had a crush on your sister since middle school." He says meekly.

"Shit man, really?" You gasp. "Shes four years older than the both of us!"

"DUDE! She was like, the hottest girl in town! Who WOULDN'T crush on her?" Charlie says defensively.

"Fine, fine." You sigh. "Just didn't see it coming, is all."

"Huh, so how did you feel about her packing up and leaving?"

"Surprised, honestly." Charlie sighed. "I'm not sure how it seemed to you, but Bree seemed to be pretty good at hiding her problems. Nobody expected her to just up and disappear like that. Hell, my folks actually thought she got kidnapped or something before your folks sorted it out."

"Ah." You nod. "Yeah, Bree made me promise not to tell anybody else about what she was going through. She felt it was best that way to protect herself and our parents. You know how rumors can go."

"Yeah." Charlie nods. "I guess afterwards, I was kinda bothered. I was always wondering, if I had made a move, would things have been different? Would she have left anyways? Afterwards, I picked up my little hobby and managed to distract myself with it, until now."

"Hey, about that hobby..."

"You want more stuff?" He grins.

"...yeah." You nod. "I got plenty of backpay if you need compensation..."

"Nah, no need." Charlie shakes his head. "Anything I do for a friend is free of charge. What do you need?"

"Well, I need a wakizashi to get back on Red's good side."

"Jesus, what did you do? Turn her down?"

"I accidentally shot her in the foot."

"Ouch. Okay, yeah, I understand. Anything else?"

"A seax. For me."

"Oooooh, gonna take that into battle with you?"

"Nah," You chuckle. "I'll probably just bring it around as a trophy. Military regs are pretty strict on the kinds of weapons we can take with us."

"Yeah, okay. I'll see if I can do it. Since they're smaller blades, I might be able to get them finished before you have to head back."

"Thanks a lot, man." You grin.

Finally, Charlie's Mustang pulls up to your house. It was a simple, modest thing, but you would have never traded it for anything else in the world. Bree manages to wake up just as the car pulls up the driveway.

"Bree!" You see your Mom rush down the lawn and give your older sister a big bear hug. "It's so nice to see you finally home!"

"Um, y-yeah." Bree awkwardly returns the hug. "It's nice to see you too, Mom."

"There's so much we need to catch up on!" She says. "Where have you been? What have you been doing? Do you have a boyfriend yet?"

"MOM!" Bree blushes furiously. "Seriously!"

"Oh right! Dinner!" You mother blinks before rushing back into the house. "Come on in!"

The three of you enter the house and you can immediately smell it. The familiar smell of-

"STEAK!" Bree's eyes widen.

Yep, it's been way too long.

"Well, it's a special occasion, so I felt shelling out for some fresh beef was worth the cost!" Mom says cheerfully. "Your father should be back any minute!"

Suddenly, Bree's expression grows a bit darker at the mention of Dad. Oh boy, this was going to be interesting.

"So um, how's Dad been doing these days?"

"Oh, well, he's on his last batch of trainees. The Air Force just recently decided to retire the Phantom and are slowly phasing them out for F-16s."

"Oh man, he's not going to like that."

"Oh, he's absolutely livid!" Mom chuckles.

Bree, however, remains quiet.

"Come on, Bree, don't you have anything to say?" You nudge your sister.

"W-well, it's nice to see that you and Dad are doing well." Bree mumbles. "H-He's not made about me leaving, is he?"

"Oh, don't be silly! He was the one who took it the hardest!"

"W-what?" Bree blinked. "I thought he always hated me."

"No, he's just terrible at showing affection. I should know, I married him!" Mom chuckles. "But in all seriousness, it's just how he always is. He expects everybody to know their job and to do it."

"Yeah, well..."

"Think it about this way." Mom pinches Bree on the nose. "If you hated him so much, why did you follow his footsteps and join the Air Force?"

"Well, I..." Bree pauses. Yep, Mom totally got her there.

"I think you two have more in common than you want to admit." Mom sighs. "Now come on, eat up! You shouldn't expect your father to make it back on time!"

"I'm always on time!" You hear Dad yell as he barges in. He then sees you and bearhugs you. "SON! How have you been?!"

"Good!" You gasp. "Some air would be nice, though!"

"Ha!" Dad gives you a hearty slap on the back. He then turns to the table and sees Bree sitting there, and his expression darkens slightly.

You give a sidelong glance to Mom who gets the cue and steps forward.

"Isn't it wonderful, honey? Bree's finally come home! It's the first time we could sit down together as a family in... well... years!"

"Yeah..." Dad mumbles.

"You will both SIT and ENJOY DINNER TOGETHER." Mom says with a cheerful smile.

That convinces both Dad and Bree to sit down, and soon enough, all of you begin digging in.

"So, Breeana." Dad finally speaks up. "How has the Air Force been treating you? You don't write or call or anything. It can lead some people to be... concerned.

"It's been going fine." Bree says carefully. "I've got my own squadron. Not quite the most seasoned or elite, but it's my own command, and I'm proud of it."

"Good, Be grateful for what you have." Dad nods. "How many kills."

"Well, I mostly do ground attack mission, so I got about a hundred fifty sorties under my belt." Bree shrugs. "I did get a few aerials, though. Eight kills."

"Hm, good job." Dad nods. "How about you, William? I heard you got transferred into a mixed unit?"

"That's right." You nod.

"Well." You speak up, trying to keep your cool. "Of course I sleep with the witches I'm bunked in the same barracks as them, after all."

Mom and Charlie seem disappointed, while Dad doesn't make any visible reaction.

"So, what have you and Bree been up to in the war, then?" Dad asks as he cuts off another piece of steak.

"Oh, the usual. Shooting Russians, trying not to get shot." You shrug. "Me in particular, I've had a hell of a time pulling people out from behind enemy lines. You'd be surprised at how much trouble those SFs can get themselves into."

"Ah, I can relate." Dad nods. "Same thing back in 'Nam. Always had to fly some sorties pretty deep into enemy airspace to bail those guys out. "

"But other than, that', it's been business as usual." You say.

"Yeah." Bree nods. "

"Did you two fight in Berlin?" Mom asks, a bit concerned. "It was all over the news.

"Well, technically, I got involved AFTER Berlin, but it was still pretty hectic." You sigh.

"Yeah, I was in the thick of it." Bree grins and snakes an arm around your neck. "Would've been a whole lot worse of Will here didn't get my squadron some decent strikers!"

And so you tell Dad the whole drama about the politics and backstabbing involved with Bree's striker procurement. Everything from how she was stuck with F-111 strikers, to getting assigned a literal suicide mission to try and force her out of her command.

"That's troubling." Dad frowns. "Did you ever find out who was responsible?"

"Well, not really." You sigh. "But we managed to get them to stop meddling with Bree."

"I see." Dad nods. "Well I still have my old contacts in the Air Force. Maybe they might know something."

"Sure, we could use the help." You nod. "No guarantee that they won't try again."

"Exactly." Dad nods.

The rest of the night is spent with random small talk. Mostly about how Mom and Dad have been handling things at home. Dealing with increasing prices for commodities, Dad's ire at the Phantom getting retired, and the like. Charlie then leaves for home and you all decide to call it a night. You and Bree had back to your respective rooms, almost untouched since you were both in high school. Heh, it was a pretty nostalgic feeling.

---------

The next morning, you head for the kitchen ready for breakfast. There, you see Mom, Dad, and Bree already there.

"Oh, Will, you're up." Mom says. "It's a bit of a busy day today. Charlie says he wants to talk to you."

"Well, I was planning on catching up with some old acquaintances here." Bree shrugs.

"And if you're interested, the Air Force is shipping my old Phantom down to the local airfield, as a token of gratitude for my long years of service." Dad says with a bare hint of sarcasm. "I wouldn't mind if you came along to help me check it out."

"Yeah, I guess I can I can tag along with you, Dad." You nod. "When are we going?"

"Right now." He says, getting up from his seat. "Better grab a plate and eat on the go."

"Sighing, you grab a plate that Mom helpfully prepared for you and follow Dad out to the driveway, where his old pickup is parked. You slide into the passenger seat while he turns on the engine. The pickup roars to life and he takes it out to the highway leading to the nearby airfield.

Honestly, it was a pretty small place, mainly meant for providing cropdusters and a few private owners a place to store their planes. In fact, Dad actually had a small Cessna stored there for recreational purposes. However, you suspect it was going to be pushed to the sidelines now that he had his old Phantom to play with.

"Well, let's just say that during a certain conflict, I saved the life of a certain pilot who became a certain very highly placed official." Dad says vaguely. "So, he owed me a big favor and I called it in. Of course, I can't actually keep any of the weapons on it, but other than that it's the same baby I used to fly."

"I see." You nod. "You really love it that much?"

"I understand."

"Anyways, I just brought you out here because I just wanted to talk to you alone." Dad sighs. "I've heard you've been getting rather friendly with your witches."

"Friendly?" You raise an eyebrow.

"Why are you so concerned?" You ask.

"Well, I'm just asking, since relationships with witches can get... complicated." Dad sighs.

"Speaking from personal experience?" You raise an eyebrow.

"Let's just say your Mom wasn't exactly my first relationship." Dad says simply. "Long story short, I got in a relationship with a witch, but she was more interested in becoming a matron than maintaining our relationship."

"...so she dumped you."

"That's a very blunt way to put it, yes."

"And you're worried something similar will happen to me?"

"I'm just cautioning you."

"Well, I'm certain she's not going to pull that on me." You say confidently.

"Oh, so you ARE going out with one?"

"I guess?" You shrug. "It's nothing official yet, or anything. Hell, the farthest we've ever gotten was just some innocent flirting."

"I see, I see." Dad nods. "Well, I learned my lesson with Breeana, so I'll let you handle your own choices."

"Thanks, Dad."

Charlie is the only one insisting on seeing us and I'd like to see what he has to say.

Oh shit, I just realized that....

Good observation and am awaiting said shit storm
>>

>>
>>30847178
thats a distinct possibility

maybe after the war when we're married to Janice, she could look into it
>>
>>30847229
Or Janice dumps us for going the Matron route, and we either play the most dangerous game with Tarin or go to jail due to red
>>
>>30847250
red is legal
>>
>>30847250
she's rather unclear though a revelation of feelings couod change her mind.

>>30847267
Who said it was due to Jailbait?

Though that was one of the reasons

"Yeah, sure thing." You nod. "Let me just give a call to Charlie first."

You then head over to a nearby phone and dial Charlie's number.

"Hey, Charlie." You say. "Sorry, I'm actually helping my dad fix up his Phantom, so I might be back late. You still up for that talk?"

"Yeah sure, We can postpone it to tomorrow. It's not that urgent."

"All right." You nod.

The next few hours is spent poring over every inch of the Phantom. While you weren't exactly a mechanic, nor did you know the intricacies of the the Phantom's inner workings, you provided what assistance you could, often helping Dad pop off access panels and handing him the tools he asked for. Either way, it felt like a nice change of pace from the rigid schedule on base. Before you knew it, it was already dark by the time you finished.

"Heh, took a lot longer than I thought, but we did it." Dad grinned. "She's as good as she was straight out of the factory."

"I suppose you're going to fly her around at some point?" You ask.

"Of course! I didn't go through all the trouble of getting her so she could sit in a hangar on display. I got her back to FLY."

"Heh, you're going to piss all of our neighbors with the noise she'll make." You chuckle.

"They'll get used to it." Dad laughs.

It was now the third day of leave. This time, you head straight to Charlie's house after breakfast. Nobody answers the door when you knock, so you go around the back, suspecting he was in his workshop. Sure enough, you see Charlie in a shed in his backyard, hammering away at a chunk of molten metal, no doubt one of the blades you asked him to make.

"Hey, Charlie. You wanted to talk to me?"

"Yo, Will!" Charlie grins. "Just the man I was looking for!"

He then gives the blade one last hammer before cooling it off in a bucket of water and setting it aside.

"Look man, I've got a bit of a personal question to ask."

"Which is..?" You already suspect what it's going to be.

"You think... well... you think you can ask your sister to go out with me?"

If she did go matron route after the war, she ain't the type to dump her relationships and go full corporate on us, thats not in her personality or character.
>>
>>30847313
I meant that mostly as a joke but it could happen not that she wants to but due to circumstances.

but again its a joke.

Punch Charlie!

"Charlie you are one stupid bastard." You sigh and shake your head. "Normally, this should be something you should handle yourself. But frankly, I don't think you even need my help."

"Huh?"

"Come on, Charlie, it's obvious Bree has at least sort of attraction to you." You point out. "I mean, what harm in there is asking? It's not like she's type to hate you forever for having the gall to think she's pretty."

"Heh, well when you put it that way..."

"Honestly, Charlie, you make me get up so early in the morning for this?" You shake your head. "Go ask her out already, you dolt. Once leave is up, you probably won't get another chance."

"Yeah, I think I'll do that." Charlie grins and pats you on the shoulder. "That's why we're buddies, right? Thanks."

"Anytime."

With that, Charlie sets down his tools.

"You know what, I'm going go and do it right now. No sense waiting, right?" He then marches out the yard towards your house.

As he asks her out, wait for a positive reply from Bree, then jump kick through the nearest window, screeching the whole time, down him in one whisper kick, and shout "STOP HITTING YOURSELF, STOP HITTING YOURSELF".

This is the best plan, and you know it.

Oh, well, there was no way you could miss this. Thanking Lex, wherever he was, for those stealth lessons he had taught you so long ago, you discreetly follow Charlie back to your house, where Bree is just lounging on the porch. You're too far away to hear what is being said, but you could imagine it. You can see Bree's face turn crimson, even from this distance and she turns away. Charlie steps forward, obviously concerned he might have hurt her feelings. However, Bree then spins around and tackles Charlie, literally sending them both flying off the porch and onto the grass.

What she did nest... yeah. You probably shouldn't get into details but there was a LOT of mouth to mouth contact going on there. Thank god Mom and Dad were out of the house today.

While it made you warm in fuzzy inside to see Bree and Charlie together, you had to admit it stirred up some uncomfortable feelings inside you, like whether you and Janice could share the same amount of passion. Dad's words yesterday also hung heavy in your heart. Janice in no small terms mentioned to you that she was considering matronhood. Would she betray you like Dad's old lover?

You shake your head. That was all nonsense. Janice wasn't the type of girl to betray anybody.

Suffice to say, Mom and Dad were bit.... surprised a the turn of events. While Mom was all appreciative and supportive, Dad just sort of kept glaring at Charlie all the time, to the point of making your friend rather uncomfortable. You tried to reassure him that Dad was just testing him to see if he had the requisite backbone, and wouldn't actually do anything to him. Charlie seemed to think otherwise.

And so passed the last few days of your stay here. It was nothing too special, just hanging around the house and doing some errands for both Mom and Dad. However, the week was over all to quickly in your opinion.

But, you had promised to go visit Janice, after all. However, Bree was going to stay here for the rest of her leave period, so this was where you both were going to part ways, at least for now.

"Hey, don't go doing anything stupid, now, okay Will?" Bree says as she hugs you.

"Yeah, thanks." You nod. "I'll see you later. You too, Mom, Dad."

"Just be careful." Mom says.

"And remember what I told you." Dad reminds you.

"Yeah, I will." You nod.

You then board the waiting bus, which would ship you to Los Angeles. Not exactly the place you expected Janice to be living at, but, well, it was what it was.

With one last wave to your family, you board the bus and shuffle over to your seat. You lean back to get comfortable, since it was going to a be a long ride, and you slowly drift off to sleep, you dreams haunted by generous assets and sideties...

>And that's it for tonight! Tune in next week for the next PJ Witches, and don't forget Cyberpunk Idols on Saturday and Magical Girl Hunter on Friday!
