You are ALICE. You were once a magical girl, but have now ended up having to hunt down your former comrades. As a member of the Magical Girl Hunter Bureau, it is your job to defend humanity from the Magical Menace!

Currently, you on the Prison Star as you have your friend Kanako processed. You decided to leave Carol at the Daedalus, since she and the Magical Girls imprisoned here seemed to be mutually bothered by each others' presence.

You're still caught up about Kanako, though. Even though she had reluctantly turned herself in, she was still capable of using magic, which made her a very large potential threat. You know the guys in Intel were just itching to squeeze any useful information out of her, but you're not sure whether they would be successful or not. Kanako was still very... .confused. Throughout the trip, see seemed to act somewhat erratically, at times being rather calm and understanding, and other times manic and uncooperative. It was very disconcerting.

On top of that, there was that whole Yamato situation. The ship alone had more Magical Girls in one place than anybody had seen since the end of the War, which was rather disturbing. Bruttenholm had gone straight to the Council to report his findings. In fact, he should probably be back by now.

Then again, you didn't visit the Prison Star much. Maybe you could catch up with Mary...

You decide to catch up with Mary for a bit. Waving your security badge, the guards let you through with no issue and you make your way to Mary's cell. As usual, Mary is sitting on her bed reading some sort of medical journal. Since she was cooperative, she received some nice perks from the staff.

"Oh, Alice! It's good to see you in a not-near-death state!" Mary says happily

"Hi to you too, Mary." You sigh. "How have things been going?"

"Oh, you know, sitting around and reading. The usual thing." Mary shrugs. "What have you been up to? I hear we have a new arrival today!"

"Ah, it's Kanako, actually." You sigh.

"Oh, really? How nice!" Mary claps her hands together. "She's doing well, I hope?"

"Well, besides nearly drowning and having weird mental issues, she's perfectly healthy."

"Mental issues?" Mary frowns. "What happened?"

"No clue." You shrug. "The doctors are still trying to figure that out. You don't happen to know how to handle stuff like that?"

"Sorry, my powers only extend to physical injuries." Mary shakes her head.

"Ah, well, it couldn't hurt to ask." You sigh.

"Come on, sit down with me!" Mary smiles as she shifts to the side pats down on the spot on the bed next to her. "It's been so long since we could just talk like... well... girls!"

"Actually, let me talk to Kanako, first." You say apologetically. "I don't want her to end up like Mirai did."

"Ah yes, I heard about that..." Mary says sadly. "Unfortunately, I don't know what her Companion did to her or how it works. Sorry I can't be more of a help there."

"No problem. I'll see you soon, okay?"

"Okay!" Mary smiles and waves goodbye.

You then exit her cell and move a little ways down the hall to where Kanako is being held. You still see some medical staff, including Egan, keeping an eye on her. Not to mention all the armed guards around her as well.

"So, how is she doing?" You ask Egan as you enter.

"Well," Your scientist friend frowns. "my hypothesis is that whatever mental conditioning the Companions subjected to your friend Kanako here is interfering with her thought processes. She often acts confused as to what she's supposed to to, for example. Whenever we try to ask her a question, she WANTS to try and answer it, but seems unable to, as if she has some serious mental block."

"Is she going to suffer the same thing Mirai did?" You ask worriedly.

"Well, from what I've seen, your friend Mirai was suffering similar symptoms before she had her memory erased. I think, from what you've seen, is that Companions are not omniscient like many people believe them to be, as evidenced by how Kanako has not had her powers and memories taken away from her."

"So you're saying her Companion has no idea that she's alive?"

"That's what it appears to be." Egan nods. "Either that or it's some kind of very elaborate ruse, which I doubt it is."

"Okay, then what can we do?"

"Well, the only answer is vigorous deprogramming and treatment." Egan sighs. "I mean, there's a very experimental and dangerous method we could use..."

"To cure her?" You blink.

"Erm, more like, take the answers w ewant directly from her head." Egan frowns. "Very invasive, and quite possibly extremely painful."

>>
>>30881777
It doesn't. It gets us vague bits of information through torture.

It's better if we request from Bruttenholm that we go capture a companion and fix Kanako that way.

Not interested in torture. Probably even more useless on companions.

Just directly stick diodes and or equipment into it's brain, and extract images from various different stimuli, XCOM style.

Or just use it for magical experimentation. We could get a steady supply of companion juice, and perfect it to a safe level.
>>

I don't think we're in disagreement at all.
>>

I dont understand this choice, one is for the slow and helpful method of treating her and fixing her, the other just tortures her brain, whats the point of that?

Whether we're willing to sacrifice her to get the information we need, now to take action against the companions.

Likely with the longer route, they'll have more time to finish up their plots.
>>
>>30882035
The questions is that how do we provoke a companion to show up?

My guess is that we want to set up a honey trap. Get a body double of Kanako, put her in mount cheyenne or something similar, announce to the world of a successful capture of high ranking MG, and soak in any MG and companions that try to even get close.

"No way, I want to try to do it without hurting her." You shake your head. "At least let me talk to her first."

"Go ahead." Egan nods and stands aside. There, you see Kananko, restrained to her bed and mumbling to herself. Somehow, despite having the best medical care available, she still somehow looked like shit. Her eyes sunken and hair tangled.

"Kananko?" You say softly. "Can you hear me?"

"A-Alice?" Kanako blinks, and then suddenly her hands start struggling against her restraints causing the nearby guards to raise their guns.

"Wait!" You raise your hands to stop them. "Kanako, what are you doing?"

"I-I-I don't know!" Kanako blubbers. "I-It's like my mind... my body are acting on their own!"

Kanako takes some deep breaths and slowly the struggling stops.

"I want to talk to you, I really do, but- something keeps telling me I shouldn't! I can't!"

Jesus, what the fuck did the Companions do to her?

"It's all right." You say. You reach forward to put a reassuring hand on her shoulder, but another aggressive jerk from her forces you back.

"I'm sorry! I'm sorry!" She cries.

Yeah, it was clear you weren't going to be able to get anything out of her in this state.

"Sorry, it looks like my presence here is just making things worse." You sigh as you back away.

"Don't worry. It was worth a try." Egan shrugs. "We'll do our best to help her any way we can."

With that, you reluctantly leave Kanako's cell. Feeling down, you make your way back to Mary's cell to take her up on the offer for some small talk. You plop yourself down on her bed and sigh.

"Is something bothering you?" Mary asks curiously.

"Yeah, it seems like Kanako's situation is a lot worse than I thought." You sigh. "And I don't even know how to help her. It's infuriating."

"I'm sure it is." Mary nods.

Suddenly, you feel her fingers moving through your hair.

"Mary?"

"Alice, you hair is just DREADFUL!" Mary tuts. "How long have you been neglecting it?"

"Ummmm, I can't even remember the last time I cared."

"Honestly!" Mary says in a scolding manner. "I'll have to do something about that!"

And before you can protest, Mary starts running a comb through your hair. You wince as the comb tries to force its way through all of the tangled knots in your hair, but oddly enough, it feels pretty good, regardless.

"It's such a shame. You have such beautiful black hair, too." Mary continues. "How are you ever going to attract a boyfriend with hair like this?"

An invader will date Alice first, which might actually be possible with modern science.

Better question, how would we even meet a civilian guy? We're usually on a military space station, or on a military base.

"Don't worry about it. I'm happy for them." You sigh. It's not like you were completely oblivious to what Leo and Egan were up to. "Anyways, Carol is already a handful for me."

"Carol?" Mary blinks.

"Oh right, she's my daughter." You say with a perfectly straight face. "Don't you know? I'm a single mother now. No man would want used goods like me."

Mary just stares at you for the longest time and you stare back until you can't hold in your laughter any more.

"Ahahahaha, I got you good! You should've seen the look of your face!" You cackle.

"I KNEW IT!" Mary laughs and hits you with her pillow. "Why'd you have to make me panic like that?!"

"Yeah, but in all seriousness I do sort of have an adopted daughter." You say. "It's been a literal full time job making sure she doesn't do something stupid."

"Well, if guys aren't into you, have you ever considered batting for the other team~?" Mary asks.

"Explain further." You narrow your eyes.

"Well, you always seemed particularly friendly with Joanna and Mirai, and you do talk about Egan a lot..."

"We're just friends." You shake your head. "I don't see them in THAT way."

"Pity." Mary pouts and then smiles. "Still, you never know. Just keep yourself looking nice, and maybe you'll find love again! Or maybe it'll find YOU..."

"S-shut up!" You blush.

"Ohohohho~, hit a soft spot, did I?" Mary chuckles. "Here, take this!"

Mary then hands you a little hair decoration, shaped like a butterfly. It was black with some red highlights and striping.

"I based the colors off your old costume. I think you'd look really pretty with it!" Mary smiles. "Don't worry, it's not any sort of trap or anything."

"Well, I'll have to check anyways." You sigh, going over the hair dec with your hand.

"Go on, take it!"

"Thanks, Mary." You grin and clip the hair dec on. "How do I look?"

"Like an actual girl." Mary giggles. "Now, I'm sure you've got so many more important things to do..."

"Yeah, I guess I do." You nod. "Anyways, see you later, Mary."

"Hopefully when you're not dead or dying!"

"Yeah, hopefully."

You exit Mary's cell and make your way back to the Daedalus. You're immediately tackled by Carol as she hugs you.

"Mom!"

"Yes, Carol, I'm back." You laugh and manage to push her off. You see that Egan's beaten you back to the ship.

And she's resting her head on Leo's shoulder.

Okay, gotta stay cool. Keep your cool, Alice.

"I see you two have been getting awfully friendly." You manage to say politely.

"I guess we have." Leo nods. "Just uh, try not to tell the others about this? We don't want it to be common knowledge."

"Yes, it would be a massive tragedy if other people were to realize that we're in a relationship." Egan says in a deadpan manner. "Because, you know, nobody's every done it before."

"Y-yeah. I'll keep that in mind." You say as you sit down. Goddamn this was so weird.

You know Loki is going to try harder than that.

So the thing it that Loki is alive, somehow, and he has a goal in mind, an agenda. It might be as simple as just saying alive. You guess you could always get some quick rest while you could. You lean back into your seat and close your eyes...

...and wake back up again to see yourself in an empty passenger cabin, with a goddamn smug looking black cat sitting in one of the seats. Goddamnit, why are you still surprised at this?

"It's been a while, Alice." Loki says, his tail swishing in the air." You've been SUCH a busy girl, lately."

"I guess I have." You grunt. "What of it?"

"Well, it's always nice to see my own Magical Girl proving herself superior to my compatriots' selections." Loki purrs. "It makes me very proud, aside from the whole fact that you killed me."

"Oh, boo hoo. Am I supposed to feel sorry for you?"

"Feel what you want." Loki shrugs, or at least does the closest equivalent a cat was capable of doing.

"Get to the point, cat. What do you want from me?" You narrow your eyes.

"Well, if you want information on my compatriots, it can be obtained. It just requires a bit of... decision making."

"Such as?"

"Do you remember Mirai?"

"Of course I do."

"There is a method to restore her memories, without the programming my brother installed in her. It won't be easy, mind you, but it's possible."

"What's the catch?" You narrow your eyes.

"Well, the process would have to involve using the both of us as a conduit. We'd be connected, all three of us." Loki says, his eyes glinting in the darkness.

To be fair, I do understand their position. Everything he says, all the half-truths, are poison. We might be better off not talking to him. Even listening to him carries extreme risks. He can say something true, but a lie through huge admission or framing it in a different way.
>>
>>30885379
I understand their position as well and Loki must be handled carefully, but refusing his proposals out of hand just because it's Loki makes having Loki around pointless.

We have a chance to get Mirai back. Isn't that a risk worth taking?

It's certainly less dangerous than the earlier MG Alice proposal.
>>
>>30885409
I just want Jo back, she seems to be a prepared character and dice rolls seem to removed her too early.
>>
>>30885409

But Mirai has a chance to be out of the war.

We're dragging her back into the trenches.
>>
>>30885409
Well the real boon here is that if Loki can fully describe the process, in detail, then we have additional insight into magic and we can leave it up to command whether or not to take this deal. But the important thing is that we gain additional intel on magic. The possible trap is that Loki already foresaw this and takes this into account when speaking to us.
>>
>>30885409
>It's certainly less dangerous than the earlier MG Alice proposal.
Not really. This line.

>We'd be connected, all three of us.

Out right says he'll be connected to her. Loki is Alices problem not Mirais. I strongly doubt it will be a temp bases with her and more on the permanent one. That isn't a good risk.
>>
>>30885438
>>30885441
I agree. We don't go dragging girls back into wars.
>>
>>30885460
Also, they are war criminals, they clearly killed people, so helping them without proper authorization or controlled environment will make us traitors.
>>
>>30885409
But anyways. Let's think here. One obvious motivation for Loki is to become corporeal again or something like that. If we can offer to help him with that, in exchange for something valuable like intel, than a deal may be possible.
>>
>>30885337
we are a magical girl hunter, there is more to the quest than
>Loki appears once more and offers a proposition
>Y/N

if you think people should drop the quest because they don't want to touch Loki with a 10ft pole, your retarded and should leave the quest

there, see what I did? I acted like you, now shut up and keep questsing
>>
>>30885488
Why do we(ALICE) want him back in physical realm? The risk of having him back around is really too high.
>>
>>30885488
I would actually think a corporeal Loki would be far more dangerous than having him on our shoulder tempting us.

He can't contract new MGs now. I don't know why you'd want to have more Companions on the field.
>>
>>30885511
What if we bring him back inside a controlled room? like in a ship on the dark side of the moon and launch him out of the airlock if he does anything funny?
>>
>>30885511
>>30885514
Well the point is to not actually give him what he actually wants, but to dangle it in front of him for stuff.

Also, if he can be made corporal again, he can be shot again if he misbehaves. Or experimented on. But this Loki seems to be not on their side. At least currently. This is a golden opportunity that will be costly to waste
>>
>>30885556
What Loki wants is for us to become a better killing machine.

He probably has a larger plot than that, but it involves us being a better killing machine.
>>
>>30885542
>>30885556

Then why bring him out at all?

You know he wont give any info that's wroth anything if we just trap him. And he'll that's the plan base off every time we've talked to him he's known what we've been up to.

So do you keep that from happening?
>>
>>30885587
>And he'll that's
>And he'll know that's
>>
>>30885587
Because it's worth a try, and we still know nothing about companions and magic. Tricking a companion is difficult, not impossible.
>>
>>30885587
...why is it so hard to kill Companions again? All it takes is a bullet. The only thing dangerous about them is mind control, and it seems to only affect gullible little girls.
>>
>>30885622
I rather try on a Companion that's not in our head.

Loki is possibly the only one we could possibly trick, because it "claims" not to be on the side of the other companions. This fact, I want to exploit.

"Well, it would involve using what you call 'Companion Juice'. Something that would get her magical abilities working again, even if for a short moment. Then all you have to do is initiate physical contact and I'll handle the rest. We'll jump directly into Mirai's mind and restore all those memories my brother tried to erase."

"And you're not going to try and hijack Mirai's body or anything?"

"Oh, heavens no. Why would I want a human body?" Loki chuckles. "Besides, you'd be present the whole time anyways, due to our linked nature, so anything I try would have to pass through you as well."

"Right..." You frown. "But why would I want to do this?"

"Because aren't you curious? To know why your best friends turned against you?" Loki says. "Well, now is your chance to see, from your friend's very own memories! Wouldn't you want that?"

Where did you get that from? She's not going to get killed unless we fuck up badly.
>>
>>30885853
You're assuming that she'll die, that it's inevitable.
>>
>>30885840
Ethically speaking, it's ok. For the sake of Alice's psych and her soul, we better not. She is effectively the only person we saved rather than killed, and I will not have that reversed.
>>
>>30885868
Anon is talking about the personality Mirai has right now. The one we talked before.
>>
>>30885868

The personality of the little girl who is now Mirai.

We do this, that personality will not exist anymore.

Is that not death?
>>
>>30885899
>>30885900

The only thing we know is that she's been mindwiped, nothing about the personality at all.
>>
>>30885899
>>30885900
So we've already killed her once then by your reasoning.

>>30885899
It's just amnesia, guys. Remembering things is not personality death.
>>
>>30885900
Not the anon, but that does bring up the following.

Is death the end of the mind or the body?
>>
>>30885899
>>30885900
This. Exactly this. She has a literal chance for a second beginning, and you want to kill it?
>>
>>30885920
The Companion killed her once already. Not Alice.
>>
>>30885924
The body.

Amnesiac people are not to be held responsible for past misdeeds, though. Moral responsibility resets.

>>30885931
So by your logic, Alice should have gotten mindwiped instead of fighting back against the companions.
>>
>>30885896
I kind of agree with this anon, her soul is already warped

>>30885899
True but considering all the shit Alice has done such as killing their common friends, it will be hard
>>
>>30885920

The companion did that to her. Not alice.
>>
>>30885918
It seems like she was reset to before she was MG. Personally, I think that's the best for her and Alice to a degree.
>>
>>30885924

The mind.

Brain dead is a thing for reasons.
>>
>>30885978
The brain is not the mind. The brain is the body.

The mind is a phenomenal result of the body.
>>
>>30885960
>>30885947
Fine, but the "new" personality isn't Mirai. It's Mirai's body not whoever we knew.
>>
>>30885924
It's both. People change their entire lives. Both body and mind. Her body is the same, but with a different mind. Not everybody gets a second chance.

>>30885954
Do you think this is easy for Alice? Having to fight her former compatriots? Do you think, in her darkest moments, she just wants to walk away from this war? People fight for a reason. For a cause. For their homeland. Their family. Alice fights to end this war. And Maria is the first people out of hopefully many that can walk away.
>>
>>30885995

Exactly its not the old mirai now.

To bring the old mirai back we need to kill the girl who is now mirai.
>>
>>30885689
"What's in it or you, then?" You glare at Loki, talking about memories and human lives as if they were just playthings. "What benefit do you get out of this whole thing?"

"You of all people should know that I like to test the boundaries of what is commonly accepted." Loki grins as he paces forward. "Why did I choose you and only you as a candidate? Why did I never condition to the same extent as the others? I wanted to see what you would occur. Similarly, we're treading into unknown territory here. You cannot imagine how impossibly fascinated at how I'm in all respects dead, yet still existing in some form in your very mind. The implications of this are simply groundbreaking!"

"Wait, so you're doing this all just as one big experiment?" You blink. "Even me?"

"The entire concept of Life is an experiment." Loki explains. "Since the first living organism was spawned, all existence was determined by its ability to adapt to rapidly changing conditions. Those that innovate, survive. Those that don't, well..."

"What the fuck..."

"What I'm saying is, you're my greatest creation, Alice, and I want to find ways to make you better."

"Excellent! I await to see your progress." Loki purrs.

"Oh right, by the way, what about Kanako? Can anything be done about her?"

"Ah, well... that would be a bit more difficult." Loki blinks. "To put it in an understandable analogy, Mirai is like a blank slate while Kanako is a canvas of distorted scribbles. It's much easier to work with the former than the latter, since I do not doubt Kanako would be aware of our attempted intrusion and attempt to fight us off. But yes, it is possible to erase her programming."

"I see..." You frown.

"Again, I await to see what you do! It looks like the time has come to part again!"

"Hey Egan." You speak up.

"Hm? Yes?"

"You know, speaking totally hypothetically, could shooting up Mirai with Companion Juice bring back her memories?"

You decide not to mention Loki to Egan. After all, Bruttenholm had told you to keep that a secret between you two.

"Hmmmm...." Egan pauses. "It's certainly possible. Considering the Juice reactivates one dormant magical circuits, and memories apparently have a close association with magic... it's certainly worth a shot."

"Scientifically or ethically?"

"Scientifically, of course." Egan shrugs.

Well, that didn't do much to calm you.

"Well, thanks anyways, Egan." You sigh as you make your way to Bruttenholm's office.

I'd like to suggest a compromIse to The procedure.

Loki needs the mg to have a link to her powers to do the unscrambling.

He also said as much, let us do the procedure on kanako.

We can descramble her brain, add her as an ally and get the intel she knows.

It will be harder but it solves the problem of having to rehabilitate her as well and we dont need companion juice since she still has her powers.

We also dont need to sacrifice the littlest girl so quickly. Shes still there as an option if this fails.
>>
>>30887005
Right, but there's undoubtly a hidden plot behind that. For now, he just wants survival of the fittest.

>>
>>30887172
I'll have to agree with this. He might think that this war will make humanity stronger and that Alice is a harbinger of some kind of super-magical girl.

And that vision of the future might not be as nice as it sounds.

As for who we should try the mental fix on, it should be Mirai. She's described as a blank state and the easier fight. Kanako will be hard. Trust the GM"s wording on this one.
>>

"Well, how did the meeting with the Council go?" You ask.

"Not good." Bruttenholm sighed. "After everything we have witnessed these past few months, we've come to one unavoidable conclusion. The Magical Girls are no longer the scattered remnants we initially believed them to be. They are now highly organized, with a support structure behind them, seeing as how they are now conducting offensive operations in numbers previously unseen since the War."

"Yeah, that's not good." You frown. "What does the Council think we should do?"

"Our belief is that Nypaver is acting as the Magical Girls' support network." Bruttenholm explains. "The Council is already drafting a declaration pronouncing him a traitor to humanity. However, they will not act on it until we are absolutely sure Nypaver is guilty. Circumstantial evidence is not enough. We need concrete facts. That means intelligence gathering."

"Ah." You nod. "I actually have an idea..."

"You don't sound very enthusiastic about it." Bruttenholm frowns.

"That's because it's actually Loki's." You say meekly.

"Why would he want to help us?" Bruttenholm blinks.

"He claims he's wants to see how we react, and well as make me stronger."

"I see..." Bruttenholm frowns. "What does it entail?"

"That we either shoot up Mirai or Kanako with Companion Juice. Then I initiate some sort of mental connection with them."

"I see..." Bruttenholm nods. "While I have serious ethical concerns about it, it does seem like a much better alternative to the current plan."

"Which is?"

No, that's not how it works. Mirai is still Mirai, she's just forgotten some very important information.

"That we will have to send Carol to infiltrate Nypaver's island." Bruttenholm says solemnly.

"What, WHY?!?"

"You must have known this would happen. It's why we gave her mutagenic powers in the first place, to improve both her capabilities as a combat platform and an infiltrator. There's no way we can safely insert a human agent onto the island, at least not without tipping anybody off."

"So it's either subject my friend to an experiment, or risk Carol's life." You seethe.

"Unfortunately, yes. The Council was very specific in what they wanted." Bruttenholm sighs.

>>We'll go with Loki's plan.

Do it on kanoko.

Shes suffering and we're in a position to help her and gain an ally.

If this works with mirai, we still need to do it on kanoko as well so we might as well try on kanoko first.

Also lastly, I believe loki specifically mentioned mirai for a reason. He wants it to be done on her for some reason instead of kanoko. Maybe he'll expend less energy with an easier target?

If so, lets not gi e him what he wants. We give him a different taget to perform the proceedure on.
>>
>>30887269
If we play as Carol, I'd be fine with it. But I don't feel she would succeed without guidance.
>>
>>30887299
These are good reasons. Supporting.
>>
>>30887299
Kanako is more difficult and anyone who says that Mirai is a different person doesn't know how the brain works.

Are you a different person because you forgot where your keys are? No. Of course not. And the same is true if you forget everything about yourself, which by the way you do every night when you dream.

>>30887332
We're helping her remember. We're not forcing her to be a new person, we're fixing who she was.
>>
>>30887315

The path of least resistance is not always the right choice. We'll be walking right into loki's potential trap if we follow exactly what he wants.

And no. A person who forgets their keys is not a different person. Someone who forgets every experience that made them who they are is a different person.

So? Opinions change naturally over time.

"The the Council has no fucking clue what they're doing." You scowl. "Carol's nowhere near ready for something like that!"

"The Council only sees Carol as an asset, not your daughter." Bruttenholm sighs. "All they see are specifications on a piece of paper, and they base their decisions off of that. Yes, Carol certainly has the capability of the performing the mission, but does she have that capability right now? It's questionable."

"I'd rather go through with Loki's plan." You bite your lip.

"If that's what you feel is the better path." Bruttenholm sighs. "I suppose you should talk to Mirai about this."

"Yeah..." You nod.

Hey guys, I have a suggestion. We should try the "soft" approach we were afraid of doing earlier. Trying make her avoid thinking about us and about the gaps and differences in memories. Try to find a creak to manually unravel the brainwashing.

Even if we fail or we accidently break her mind instead, then we have the Loki method anyways.
>>
>>30887457
No, if she breaks then that makes her outright hostile.

I think this is going to be a mental battle, like in Psychonauts. Kanako is the hard level, Mirai is the easy level. But hey, it looks like I'm out voted on who, so the only thing that matters is winning.

Just come in prepared for a fight against a serious mental immune system. Probably want to think of some good times Alice and Kanako shared together.
>>
>>30887457
I think we have only one shot at this, given how long Kanako has already been struggling with this. We should have tried the soft approach at the beginning of this quest but we backed off.
>>
>>30887477
Well the good thing is that we have 2 magical girls to try this on. Might as well try the harder one first.
>>
Hmm, never seen this around before, looks good.
>>
>>30887378
"No, I'll go right now." You sigh.

"I understand." Bruttenholm nods.

Within a few minutes, you're dropping back down to Earth on a reentry shuttle. Settling in the for the ride, you try to get comfortable.

"I see you're going along with my proposal." You hear Loki's voice.

Crap, you must've dozed off again.

"I'm just exploring possibilities." You grunt. "Anyways, can't I just go do this on Kanako? Wouldn't it achieve the same thing, and help her out as well?"

"Well, there's nothing stopping you." Loki says playfully. "Though it would be much riskier. To put it bluntly, your relationship with Kanako isn't as close as you are to Mirai. Fewer mutual memories and experiences to anchor yourself to. Combine the fact that Kanako's mind is in turmoil, it could become very dangerous for the both of you. But if you were to have Mirai with you..."

>Yeah, yeah, I understand.

>>
>>30887537
Merc writes Loki. The GM and NPCs are the same. GMs give hints through NPCs, like how yesterday in Idol quest several NPCs told the players to make their own fucking decisions rather than delegating it to the boss all the time.
>>
>>30887500
>>You're up to something, aren't you?

>>30887525
A. Stop metagaming
B. This is Loki speaking
C. Sometimes we have to do the hard thing instead of the easy thing. Also, we can still do Mirai afterwards.
>>
>>30887553
Loki just gave several valid reasons as to why Kanako should not be done first and you just ignore them out of stubbornness.

Take a fucking hint and realize that we should test out an unproven method on the easiest possible subject.
>>
>>30887548

And yet loki is not merc.

Hes his own character and motivations. Everything he tells us is painted by what he wants Alice to do. Yes, Mirai may be easier but that is not going to be whole truth.
>>
>>30887571
Or maybe it is, and he legitimately just wants to go the easiest route first.

Just playing Devil's Advocate.
>>
>>30887500
>>You're up to something, aren't you?
>>
>>30887580

And by playing devil's advocate you go into a path that wholeheartedly trusts what loki says.

The race that manipulated the entire MG corp of the world into fighting mankind.
>>
>>30887571
As Loki said, Mirai is easier because we have a better relationship with her and thus are less likely to be kicked out.

There is no hidden plot in doing Mirai first. Arguably there is in having Mirai help out with Kanako, but that's a matter for later.
>>
>>30887569
Ok, assuming we can take Loki on his word, then I got the hint. But I will choose Kanako first, out of moral reasons. So go right ahead, call me a moralfag. I dare you.
>>
>>30887500

>Yeah, yeah, I understand.

Even if he is up to something, we can't risk it. Besides, we're in this deep, no sense going back now.

"You're up to something, aren't you?" You narrow your eyes.

"Of course I am! We all have our agendas." Loki chuckles. "Just like how you're largely motivated because the alternative would put your adopted daughter a risk."

Ouch, that fucking stung, but the cat had a point.

"I want to see this 'power of friendship' you all like to boast about. Can it be objectively measured? Observed? These are things I would like to know."

"Fucking cat." You shake your head. "Fine, I'll take your word, for now."

"I can ask of nothing less. It's your mistrust that set you apart from the others, after all!"

Your eyes then jolt open as the shuttle lands. Wasting no time, you disembark and board the car waiting for you on the tarmac, which takes you straight to the private care facility Mirai was being kept at.

Mirai looked... good, actually. She was wearing some casual clothes, unlike the hospital gown you would've expected her to be wearing. Her eyes widen in surprise when she sees you waiting in the lobby for you.

"Oh! Alice, was it? It's nice to see you!" She waves happily. "What brings here?"

"Mirai..." You pause and bite your lip. "How do you feel about getting your memories back? What would you do if you had the chance?"

"I'd take it." Mirai said without missing a beat.

"Wait... what?" You blink. "Really? Even if those memories end up being painful for you?"

"I... I really don't know if you could understand this, but... it just feels like I'm missing something." Mirai sighs. "My whole life is a blank, as if I never existed a month ago. If they say people are products of their past experiences.... what does that make me?"

"You're Mirai."

"No, I'm somebody you keep calling Mirai." She sighs. "That name... every time you say it it sounds like you're talking to somebody very important to you, but... every time I hear it there's... nothing. I don't FEEL anything. No warmth, no familiarity, and it just hurts, to know that I used to be somebody important to someone else. So yes, I'd take my memories back. All of them, if I had the chance, even if they would hurt me. I'm already hurting NOW."

You pause to consider this. Even when amnesiac, she was still her stubborn, idealistic self. You also felt a bit guilty making assumptions about her.

As did many others, but if we hadn't killed them then they would have continued following the Companion's orders. We saved them from the Companions. We have to believe we did the right thing at the time.

Now, of course, that changes. It all depends on how big a harem we want to let Loki amass, though >>30887847 has the right idea.

Maybe we could make (brainless and completely controlled) artificial companions and free magical girls that way.
