YOU ARE LOLI,

The alliance to bring down Kiyiya met with resounding success, thanks mainly to the efforts of Kris, and after cornering him, you managed to bring him down with very little effort. It was almost disappointing how easy it was to dispatch him after all the trouble he'd put you through.

The vast majority of the losses on your side were among the loners, meaning most of the survivors aren't particularly mournful of their passing. The loners that did survive have banded together in a larger group and already left the site of the battle, aiming for Yanov station.
The red and yellow guys made sure to leave the area via completely opposite directions.

You and your group are the last to leave, having completely stripped the entire base of anything worth taking. Which sadly wasn't much. You did manage to pocket a few of Kiyiya's business records and his personal PDA, which you mean to take a closer look at whenever you get a chance.
You're almost half way back to the station when a rather large black crow suddenly flutters down into your path, squawking and beating its wings. When you stop, ready to fend it off, it sets down in the road, staring intently at you.

As soon as the rest of the group recovers from their shock and actually gets a good look at the creature assailing them, there's a gasp from Vasa behind you, and Sergei chimes in: "oi, oi. Tha's a Zone crow, that. Look'a dem feathers, thing's prolly' bin alive here longer'n you girls."

Ice speaks up from the other side. "A Zone crow that old? I heard you can make a real powerful medicine out of their beaks. Makes you more resistant to anomalies!"

"Dun' be stupid, lad. Dun' go believin' e'ry lil' thing ya hear in the Zone. They be clever an' all, but they ain't magic."

The crow cocks its head, still staring right at you.

"Hi there, Mr. Crow!" You keep your voice chipper as you greet him, "do you want something?" The way it keeps staring deep into your eyes, somehow you get the impression that he's definitely asking for something. A... trade?

As gently as you can, so as not to spook it, you signal the others to not move and pull a chunk of bread from the side pocket of your pack. It looks in what you could almost describe as disdain at the piece of bread, before hopping into the air and flapping up to land on your arm, digging its claws deep into your forearm.

OOOOWWWW! You can feel his claws dig deep into your arm. They definitely break the skin, and you can feel warm blood trickle quickly down your wrist.

[Pain Threshold!]

But you manage to stay perfectly still, giving him time to settle on your arm. He gazes once more at you, then taps at the silver shield on your arm, the one that came with the fancy school-girl outfit you've been wearing all this time.

[ ]Give him the shield?

>>30917478
That's a pretty shit attitude that won't help anybody. Acting like an asshat will only make it so people see you as an asshat, thus reasonable grounds to come around and give you a hard time like you want for them.
>>
>>30917423
Pretty sure he was well aware and has already manually hidden the thread. People get annoyed because normally the quest runner puts quest in the subject field so they don't have to manually hide the threads because they already have the term filtered.

>>30917478
Good thing you're not running a quest then, because it'd be quickly drowned by all the anons you just picked a fight with.
>>
>>30917538
Anon could have had a point, had he not been an asshat.
Fact of the matter is, though, all anti-quest fags act like asshats most of the time, and are therefore not worth wasting any effort on.

You reach over and unbuckle the straps around your arm. The shield comes loose, and you hold it out to the crow. He takes it in his beak, turns back to you and bobs his head once, before taking to the air and fluttering away from you. You watch him go, and almost don't notice the second crow swoop in from behind your group and drop something at you. You manage to catch it in your hand as the crow passes overhead and speeds off into the distance.

Did you just... successfully trade with a crow?

You look at the object in your hand. It's... a sort of green ball, covered entirely in thin black spikes.
You look in askance to the rest of the group. Vasa is the first to return from her silent awe at your apparent trading abilities. "Kolobok," she nods at the thing in your hand. "Makes you more resistant to damage, so I heard."
Huh, that's pretty neat. You drop it into your pack and get ready to carry on.

A short while later, you make it back to the station. As you enter, your party is greeted by cheers from all present. Though you note that there are significantly less present than when you left.
From the far side of the room, Hawaiian waves you over.

You cross the room to him. Whatever he wants might be urgent, best find out what it is. Sergei breaks off from the group and heads over to the group he'd been friendly with before, and again you can't help but notice that the group has less members now. Ice and Kris move to one of the empty tables in the corner of the room, while Vasa stays by your side as if it were just natural.

Hawaiian greets you with a wide grin. "Yooo, nice job with that bastard Kiyiya! Life around here's gonna be a lot quieter without him."

"For more than one reason," Vasa comments as her eyes scan the room. Hawaiian's expression doesn't change as he continues.

"But besides that, I got a package for you while you were out. It's from Beard. And apparently I'm supposed to take some pictures of you!"

He pushes a small bag of clothes across the bar at you. You nod in understanding, and ask him if there's somewhere private you can change. He offers you use of his store room, which you take. Inside the bag is... a suit?

A white shirt and a grayish-black waistcoat with jet black suit trousers. The trousers fit you perfectly, as does the waistcoat, though the shirt is a little loose. You assume this is intentional, and leave the top buttons undone for a more casual look. There's also a pink tie, which you leave loose as well. The set is finished off by a black fedora with a pink ribbon and a black blazer whose padded shoulders give you a rather interesting figure.
>>
>>30918217
You finish pulling the set on and step out into the open once more. You get a small peal of applause, but the reaction is largely mute compared to your usual crowds. It's fair enough, with the recent battle still fresh in everyone's minds, combined with the fact that this would be your first 'performance' since you left Zaton.

They need to lighten up. Dwelling on it will only make it worse. Sure, that's the way PTSD is born, but they won't survive long enough anyway for it to become a problem. Let's make sure they stay capable in the short term as there most likely won't be a long term for any of us.

You start to take a stance ready for photo-time as Hawaiian prepares his camera. The blazer feels a lot heavier than it should, which you suspect is Beard's combat reinforcements at work. Vasa leans in and whispers quietly in your ear. "Hey, that suit uh... looks really good. Think Beard could get me one like it?"

You can't help but grin in response, "definitely! If you want one I'll get him to make you one right away!"

"Y-yeah, uh. Do that." She shifts her gaze uncomfortably around the room, before adding "and one for Kris."

"Alright, let's get this show on the road!" Hawaiian centers you in the camera focus and takes the first snap of your grinning features.

You cycle through your usual set of cute and intimidating poses pretty quick, and throw in a few that girls your age shouldn't know. You don't know how well they work with a suit, but you're definitely gathering the attention of the room at large, so it can't be all that bad.

When you've exhausted your usual moves, you don't quite feel satisfied. So you decide to improvise. You hop up onto the nearest table, grabbing one of the men around the shoulder and pulling him in close. "Say cheese!" He barely has time to compute what is happening before Hawaiian has followed you out and is snapping more pictures of the two of you together.

The reaction is immediate. Every man in the room is suddenly clamoring, leaping from their tables and pushing and shoving their way across the room, desperately trying to reach the table beside you. You giggle as you switch up partners, giving various gangster signs and pulling faux-scowls at the camera, As the press around you continues, you find yourself having to stand upright on the table in order to have enough space to breath. Which then gives you a good vantage to get a few shots with you pressing your heels down into the mass of men below, striking a commanding pose as you use their flesh to support you.
Hawaiian is cackling as he continues to take photos.

Just when you start to wonder to yourself how you're supposed to get down now, though, the entire scene is interrupted by a single gunshot. Every man in the station either freezes, dives for cover, or spins to track the sound. Vasa is stood in the middle of the room, smoking rifle in hand pointed at the ceiling. "Okay, you've had your fun. How about letting the girl down, now?" She glares at Hawaiian as the loners mutter under their breath, breaking and returning to their own tables, leaving you enough space to hop down.

Hawaiian beckons you back over to the bar. "Okay, that was fantastic! But I got one more that I reckon's gonna steal the show!" He reaches over his counter with both hands, and pulls out a huge machine-gun. It's one of the ones the bad guys in the old war films used to use!
"Quick, strike a pose with this, and we'll call it done!"

You take the gun from him, the weight of it feeling heavier than you, and pose as if you were preparing to fire it from the hip. "Fantastic!" He takes the snap. At the exact moment he does, the far door of the station explodes inwards with an almighty BOOM.

Shards of wood fly across the room, there are several screams as they impact into some of the men stood casually near the door. You feel the wind blast of something huge flying past your head faster than your eye can track before the door behind you also explodes outwards. Everyone still standing dives for cover, pulling whatever weapons they have to hand. From the hallway to the yellow's side of the station, you pick out signs of hasty movement as they scramble to react to this sudden onslaught. On the other side, the men in red and black are already prepared, standing ready, fully armed and armored. And facing into the room.

As the dust and smoke from the blast clears, you see the gap where the main door used to be is now filled with the unmistakable shape of a tank, its gun barrel leveled, pointed straight at you. A single figure in heavy armor paces casually into the room. Of all the men in red, he's the only one not wearing a helmet.
"My name is Lt. Colonel Shulga, commander of the Duty forces in Yanov. GiltinÄ—, you are under arrest, on the charges of crimes against humanity, and of conspiring with the Zone. Surrender immediately, or you WILL be fired upon."

Vasa is kneeling beside you, hands ready on her rifle. Kris and Ice have flipped the table across from you, and are both dug in and ready for a fight. You can't see Sergei. He was near the door somewhere. Your new over-sized toy is ready in your hands, leveled towards the guys in red. The guys in yellow are disordered, but ready to go as well.

>>30919754
Working with Monolith I guess?
>>
>>30919785
Well how are we meant to survive a trial for it then. It's pretty much undeniable.
>>
>>30919185
"...Well? What is your answer?" The eyes of every person in the room are fixed upon you and you alone. Apart from Vasa's. She's staring at the tank, and you can tell she's judging where the shell is going to land, and whether she needs to move away from it before she reaches for the rocket launcher still slung over her shoulder.

A maniacal grin spreads slowly across your features. "My answer? Well, my answer would be this."
You pull the trigger.

[Part 26 Teaser End]
>>
>>30919762
We did do that a before we got controlled by the monolith though. Loli like killing people and she can be really sadistic about it. The reason we stopped was more because we wanted a better reputation so people would stop shooting at us. Not because we are a good person.
>>
>>30919800
Strangely, I have no idea what the law takes on actions committed while mind controlled.
>>
>>30919850
Well if we're talking about duty. Probably the kind of talk the get us in front of a firing squad,
>>
>>30919800
Innocence by reason of temporary insanity?

Anyway, Duty has no jurisdiction in the Zone, they could have chosen the diplomatic way. Instead they committed an aggressive act on neutral territory.
>>
>>30919829
Whelp. that happened. Back to death and mayhem.
>>
>>30919829
Awesome thread and an awesome end to it. I was afraid that we would have to go through a long drought without getting to kill anything again.
>>
>>30919880
As if the other option wouldn't get everyone killed anyway. At least this way we have a chance of defending ourselves and our friends.
>>
>>30919842
We were never killing people for no reason whatsoever. There was always some threat being posed from the people we killed, and we didn't exactly go about it torturing them or using body parts to decorate buildings. Hardly anywhere near "crimes against humanity." The monolith dreams are examples of actually going about it in a sadistic way and murdering indiscriminately.
>>
>>30919902
Kaleun just said that it wouldn't. This trial would've been rigged in OUR favour.
>>
>>30919953
Even if we discard the fact that we make a decision based on META, it still doesn't guarantee they wouldn't find us guilty. We do have a huge lapse of memory where we may have committed every imaginable sin against humanity (and maybe even invented new ones).
>>
>>30919953
It would still put us under their control. Most likely to be coerced with the threat of death to our friends. He only said they wouldn't kill us.
>>
Thanks for the thread, folks! I hope you can all join me for the probably very bloody continuation of tonight's decision on Saturday!

I sure hope at least one or two of the good guys have enough hit points left to survive what is to come!

As always, the thread is free for further discussion/paranoia, and I shall linger for a short while.
>>
>>30919942
No but we were not too far from it. Take the arena fight for example. The thing is that while Loli does have morals and doesn't kill without reason her morals are still pretty skewed and she rarely tries to find a peaceful solution if she is confident she can kill something. Remember that killing and all that is basically why she came to the zone in the first place.
>>
>>30920021
I very much doubt it. Time to wander alone again.
>>
[x] Put Quest in the title field so others do not have to see my dreck.
>>
>>30920121
They'd probably die either way anyway. It's a pretty shitty position either way.
>>
>>30919973
It's not unreasonable to argue that she can't be held responsible for that. The effects of the Monolith are commonly known (if not understood) and the fact she was controlled by the Monolith also seems to be commonly known.

>>30920056
Most of her solutions involve killing, sure. But that's still a standard solution in the Zone, and I dare you to count the number of people who weren't bandits or mercs that we have killed without being under the control of the Monolith.
>>
>>30920162
No, they wouldn't.
>>
>>30920192
bull fucking shit they wouldn't. They're a bunch of extremist shitheads.
>>
>>30920219
Read the thread.
>>
>>30920228
I did he said they wouldn't kill us. They did say that they would kill our friends however.
>>
>>30920021
Do we have any grenades?
Can we open latch of tank?
Can we drive or learn to drive tank?
>>
>>30920266
Vasa has an RPG.
>>
>>30920266
You have some plastic explosive left in your pack.
Vasa has an RPG and several warheads.
Kris has a selection of grenades. You don't know what they are.
>>
>>30920266
You're best off relying on the RPG already pointed at it. You could always try to grenade the tank crew, but doing so while under fire from however many Dutyers are here is more than a little suicidal.
>>
>>30920188
She didn't kill that many because we got controlled pretty early and before that we were still pretty green. But if you read her thought process while killing (the arena is a good example) it is very clear that she enjoys making people suffer. It is also clear that she does not care much for human life. She will defend her friends because she likes them better alive but she doesn't really differentiate the death of a friend with for example losing a beloved toy.
>>
>>30920258
He said the trial will be fair, not that they won't kill us. And also that they'd kill our friends IF we're found guilty. As in, they're only going to kill us if they actually convincingly prove to not just themselves but also the neutrals who they're always interested in recruiting or at least not turning over to Freedom that we actually deserve it.

>>30920351
Open to interpretation, really. She cried over the loss of Sock's group, was genuinely upset by the group of rookies she was with being gunned down (not that anyone saw except the one guy who was pissed for being mistakenly left for dead), tried to play hero when rescuing the guys from the gas station soon after that, and very recently put herself at risk to spare the lives of the loners who Kiyiya hid among.
>>
>>30920449
Yes she does care about people but she gets over them very quickly. The way I think of her is that she sees the zone as a way to live out the movies she idolizes. That is why she can be so inconsistent with playing hero one moment and villain (or antihero may be a better word) the next. She will of course fight for her life first and foremost but after that she will just do whatever she feels like. Her motivations are basically just to have fun and she is a sadist who likes playing a hero. Emphasis on "playing" because that is what she does.
>>
>>30920021
>I sure hope at least one or two of the good guys have enough hit points left to survive what is to come!
you better not go an kill Vasa or Kris after we just survived the fight with Kiyaya...
>>
>>30920716
I don't think that's a fair assessment. Aside from the arena, which was ages ago and happened while under pressure from an audience demanding to be entertained, her killings of people haven't been sadistic at all. Being amused by action and violence is not the same as being amused specifically by inflicting pain and suffering, which is what sadism is. A sadistic act would not be merely killing people, but actually trying to inflict more pain unto them than necessary while being amused by the fact that they are in pain.
>>
>>30921017
Spot on, Aside from the Arena, where such things are expected, Giltine has been rather defensive and acting in self defense in almost all situations she's found herself in after getting free off Monolith's control
>>
>>30921017
If that is the definition of sadism then you are probably right. Although I do think that Loli enjoys making people suffer to some extent (even if there were others who egged her on in the arena she still liked it) I think it is more that she finds joy in killing in the same way that you would find joy in beating someone at sports. In her eyes the whole thing is a game. Loli may like to play a hero but the difference between her and a real hero is that a hero would do things to make the world better in some way. Loli does not want the world to get better because then she can't play hero anymore.
>>
>>30921257
Oh yeah, I'm definitely arguing that she's a hero or even slightly saintly, but I do object to the idea that she's a sadist. I simply don't think she is, she simply enjoys the adventure, including the violent side of it. Whether it's the blood of bandits or her own, it's all fun and adventure and excitement. After all, that's what her grandma taught her. Blood is part of the package so it's exciting. So that's really a huge motivation for her, and as originally stated to Beard, what she wants out of the Zone is basically adventure.
>>
>>30921716
I swear I originally had a 'not' in that first sentence. Oh well. So I checked the archive and grandma's stories aren't explicitly stated to condone bloodshed but it sure seems implied. Possibly unintended by her and Loli just interpreted that way because boredom was everything she knew and even the worst horror stories you could come up with would sound like an improvement in her mind.
>>
>>30921716
Well I guess we are probably on the same page. Or at least as close as we are going to get. There will always be some subjective differences.
>>30922025
I sort of assumed that you meant to put 'not' there so no harm done. I just think that when it comes to killing Loli just does not have the mental barriers that ordinary people have. She sees the risk of death as a big part of the adventure and assumes everyone she meets feel the same, or at least know what they signed up for when they entered the zone.
>>
>>30922336
Anyways I really need to sleep now. It was a nice discussion. See you next thread if nothing else.
