You are Percius Aurex, Captain of a raider-class pirate vessel. Formerly the 14th son of a noble family, you fled that life in search of adventure. Returning home over 15 years later during an infiltration you found your family upon the brink of ruin and your father assassinated long ago. Having left home behind once more, you rejoined Lord Wilson's wolfpack in the frontier of Sector Corgus, faced the betrayal of your fellow Captain Morix, captured your first prize ship, and received a sizable portion of the world your wolfpack now calls home. But all of that matters little, now, as during an exploration of the lands you now hold your party was caught in an unexpected snow storm. Near the world's equator. Emperor preserve your mind if you think too hard upon that subject.

Having collected one of the more warmly dressed armsmen from your party, you set out to follow one of the sets of tracks left by a pair of your men, the snow quickly reaching up to your knee and slowing your search. Of the three possible tracks, you decided to follow the one that seemed to host a rough approximation of your Master-At-Arms' body beside it, the idea of Keller falling flat on his face most amusing and helping you ignore the cold air.

"Mr Lorisit couldn't be far, Captain Aurex. The snow wasn't too kind to his movements, and it doesn't help that he is more at home in a voidship to begin with." The armsman behind you grips your arm as you nearly lose your footing upon a hidden root, keeping you upright. "One of the others should be firing a lasgun back at camp, soon. Mr Lorisit said it would be the signal for everyone to retrace their steps." Looking at the snow and the path you follow through it, he grins. "Even a voidborn can't get too lost with these trails."

Both of you quickly crouch low as something snaps to your right, a beast easily the size of two men rearing to stand a good three heads taller than yourself. A pair of curved horns accent it's head as it looks away from you and beyond it's own snow-covered fur. You're certain that creature had plant matter sticking out of it's mouth.

Both you and the armsman with you carry a lasgun, laspistol and knife.

'Always know your target and what is beyond it.' Old Gerard would be proud that you actually remembered that. Probably less proud of a few other things you've picked up, but he was always one to appreciate the small things.

Silently you motion for your companion to overwatch the creature, the two of you moving carefully to shoulder your weapons and aim.

The creature before you makes to bolt toward your location but barely manages to move before the enormous mass of a beast similar to the one armswoman Terina felled days ago throws the horned creature an easy three meters with a single swipe of it's powerful limb. This one is without a doubt larger than your underling's kill, and it's thick fur hosts a healthy coating of show for concealment. Moving swiftly, the beast is upon the stunned creature and the sound of flesh being rent and torn fills the area as a small fountain of red coats the predator's front. You estimate the beast to be near fifty meters away, toward the edge of your ability to accurately aim for the creature's head, but the creature doesn't seem to be aware of you and isn't moving.

The beast lets loose a terrible roar of dominance as you take your shot, breaking your concentration and causing your body to flinch. Fortunately, it is quite hard to completely miss something nearly the size of a small tank, when you're aiming at it, at least.

Your shot grazes the beast's torso, burning away a patch of fur and causing the beast to avoid your armsman's following shot as it searches wildly for what you can only assume was a very confusing source of pain. Turning itsself around, the beast rears and issues a challenge toward the direction it previously faced away from!

Your next volley bites deeply into the beast's massive, right forelimb, causing it to bellow in pain and rage as it turns and begins to charge in your direction. Clearly favoring it's wounded limb, the beast's acceleration leaves much to be desired, allowing you and the armsman to loose another pair of shots, your own missing due to the beast's odd gait while your partner scores a grazing hit against the creature's left forelimb. As the beast stumbles and is forced to catch itself, the smell of ozone reaches your senses.

"Take it down!"

You take careful aim at the beast's head as it recovers its balance. Breathing out slowly, you take your shot just before the apex of the beast's gait and watch as your shot strikes the upper edge of your target's forehead, burning a deep gash as the energy from your shot ignites the beast's fur in the surrounding area. Two shots from your companion strike the beast's chest and limb respectively, deep wounds weeping blood as major blood vessels are burst beyond the weapon's ability to sear them shut.

With a final, pitiful roar the beast ensures your aim is true, and your final shot penetrates clean through the beast's skull, ending its life and dropping the tank-like mass limply in the snow. As you carefully approach, the beast's arm twitches in death, causing the armsman with you to fire an extra shot into the exposed, scrambled brain matter of the beast. "Just uhh, being sure, Captain."

The beast had cleared all but twenty meters of the fifty you originally engaged it at, impressive for a beast with a severely wounded limb. In the distance, you hear familiar voices calling out, but incoherent. The armsman with you simply shares your triumphant grin, holding his rifle's butt against his hip. "We should really have some of those fancy pith helmets for this, Captain. Maybe some smoking pipes, too."

"Don't forget the man servant named Umbubu... Sorry, what was your name again, armsman?"

"Edwards, Captain. Hugh Edwards."

"Well, Mr Edwards, I think you'll have quite a story to share with the ladies, now."

"Very true, Captain. Very true."

The beast you felled is nearly the size of a Chimera APC.

You give a holler to the closing voices, certain the last one was Keller. "Got one!"

As you wait for the voices to arrive at your position, you climb upon the beast's corpse as Edwards attempts to inspect the creature's claws and teeth with little success. "I can't move this damned thing's limbs or head!" To punctuate his frustration, he gives the thing's head a swift kick and proceeds to clutch his foot. "Fucking tank of a fucking beast!"

"If you stop kicking it, we'll figure out how to split the trophies we'll have to carve from it shortly, Edwards." Sitting upon the high, hunched back of the corpse, you draw your knife and use it to point at the beast's skull. "Head is busted, so no point in giving a damn about that. We'll split the fangs and teeth and each take a whole paw from the front limbs, if you've no objection."

"No objections, Captain. The experience alone was worth it, and you're being quite generous with the trophies, I'd say."

"I only reward suck-ups if they're female and I've hired them specifically for it, Edwards."

"We heading back to Caseblanco then? There was a nice lass or two there." To his credit, Edwards manages to keep a straight face for a few moments longer than you do.

As your laughter dies down, you notice Ana and another armsman approaching in the distance, prompting you to stand and strike a victorious pose upon your kill for their approach. Two more armsmen are a short distance behind them, and Keller's group is soon approaching from another direction. Ana simply looks between you and the beast you stand upon for a moment, then sighs. "Your sister is going to kill you when she hears you engaged a beast this large with only one other soul, Captain."

"Edwards and I have already decided that we're going to get matching pith helmets to celebrate this event, Ana. My sisters can deal with it."
>>
>>30924129

"You have no idea how you're supposed to carve this thing up, do you, Captain?"

"I just thought I'd let you handle that, Ana. You've always got a few blades hidden somewhere."

sounds good to me, lets see if we can get a little shooting competition going among our merry band after we get this carcass butchered and back to our camp
>>
Everyone gets to work on the two beasts, Keller leading the efforts upon the smaller creature while Ana leads the efforts upon the larger beast. As you and Edwards pull at the head of the beast to assist Ana's efforts to cut through the neck, you strike up a conversation with the man. "You're quite a shot, what kind of training have you had?" Something pops as Ana's knife severs something, causing both of you to suddenly hold more of the chair-sized head's weight. "Bilge Scum Academy, Captain." With a solid kick into the hilt of her blade, Ana severs the head completely, and you both stagger back, Edwards nearly losing a finger as the beast's jaw snaps shut after colliding with your leg. "Well, you're a good shot, Edwards. Glad to have you. On three." You both heave the beast's head into the snow, rolling it over to expose the jaws to your blades. In a few minutes you've removed the lower jaw whole, and after a few attempts to figure out how to remove those from the upper jaws, you decide you'll need some tools or another approach.

"So, fancy a little shooting competition once we've gotten our haul back to camp?"

"If you're willing to enrich the pot, sure."

As work continues you find yourself helping Keller roll up the horned creature's pelt. "So how was your little trek? You seem to be handling planetary gravity better, Keller."

"Boring. This snow is turning my silent movement techniques into shit, and I'm certain that everything heard me coming a kilometer away." He wipes his blood-covered hand upon his blood-soaked clothing, cursing as it doesn't help at all.

"I saw a few of your more blatant faceplants, or perhaps some attempts at crawling." Watching him curse, you chuckle. "Enjoy the warmth while it lasts, we'll all likely need to bathe after this."
>>
Soon enough all hands are focused upon the beast, the pelt removed in smaller portions before the beast is gutted from the lower side of the abdomen. The smell is sickening, even compared to the horned creature's innards, and most of your group proceed to gag. Keller, however, simply grips a section of the beast's massive guts and holds part of the intestine up, the organ nearly as thick as his head. "This thing has huge guts!" His attempt at humor promptly receives a chorus of "Boo!" from the armsmen.

Snow is slowly beginning to fall once more as your party heads back to camp, all of you loaded down with meat and pelts and still forced to leave excess behind. Thankfully, one of the armsmen recalled which parts of the smaller beast had tasted best, and you were sure to collect the more choice sections of the beast. The top jaw of the beast hangs from Ana's lower back, the rest of the skull smashed away to lighten the load. "So, Ana. Enjoy your little walk?"

"I'm enjoying it much more now that I'm covered in blood, Captain." She smiles sweetly at you, raw, bloodied meat slung across both of her shoulders. The sight is mildly disturbing, but you're not foolish enough to say anything to her. She'd probably see how she enjoyed wearing your blood around...

"Didn't find anything to hunt, then?"

"Oh, no. We saw a few small critters but I didn't think they'd make a decent meal, or have enough blood to warm me up."

Thankfully, she doesn't seem interested in conversation after that. Thank you, sweet Emperor.

Morale at camp skyrockets as your group arrives, and Tes quickly has Synne assisting her with prepping and cooking the haul.

You set about getting yourself and the rest of your blood-covered fellows cleaned up, using nearly every metallic container available to melt snow above the enlarged fire. The detail you set to gather wood seems to have been quite successful, and Tes soon has the same group collecting some smaller trees from the area for her own purposes. A series of A-frames soon takes shape over the fire, the discarded branches added to the fire and longer, thinner strips of fresh meat hung above the fire along the frames.

Miss Alekto smiles as Synne pours hot water over your head and begins to scrub at the blood trapped within your hair. "What were you thinking, hunting something the size of a tank with only two lasguns!" With a huff, she scrubs hard enough to prevent you from responding, clucking her tongue like your mother used to do. "You're lucky I don't tell Alica, Percius. Or Selenti. She'd give you a piece of her mind for pulling a stunt like that."

"I killed it, didn't I?"

"Don't act like you didn't get lucky this time, Percius! Gerard taught you better than that."

"I'm alive, it is dead, and I'm going to eat damned well tonight, Synne. We're not sheltered at home anymore."

Synne's arms wrap around you and squeeze, and you awkwardly reach to give her a pat on the head before she resumes her scrubbing. "Fine, but I don't have to like your stupid, macho stunts, Percius."

"And I don't have to like your nagging, Synne."

Miss Alekto's voice drifts through your mind as your sibling bickering dies down. "You wished to speak with me, Captain Aurex."

You offer the eyeless woman a queer look, her smile unfading. "Right. I was wondering if you might be able to contact our ship in orbit, with our vox transmissions seemingly blocked by this storm, it would seem that your abilities are called for."

The astropath simply nods. "I'll do so at once, Captain."

Synne scrubs at the remainder of the blood upon your head as Miss Alekto heads outside the cave.

Soon enough you find yourself in one of the smaller hot springs, your body relaxing as the heat loosens muscles you didn't previously know were sore. The rest of your group is scattered between the other springs or thinks you're all crazy and is staying in the cave where it is warm. Miss Alekto seems to have occupied the spring nearest you by herself, the sad, pained expression plastered upon her face since she sent her message into orbit fading as she slowly sinks deeper into the hot water. When only the top half of her head remains above water, her expression seems to change to what you think might be a smile.

"Captain." Tes slips into the water beside you, letting out what you assume is a purposeful moan as she settles herself in. "Oh, this is good, Percius."

"Yes, this was a rather brilliant idea on my part: Hot springs, strange new animals to seek out and shoot, and" you take a moment to clear your throat, "Good company."

Tes simply rolls her eyes. "Two out of three of those were luck, and you left the other one at a bar to go chase some Navy tart." Her lips twist into a confident smirk as she rolls her shoulder and extends her arms forward, fists balled, then slowly stretches them out to her sides, fingers extending. Resting her outstretched arms upon the edge of the spring. "Orsola got bored and started extracting the teeth from that upper jaw you brought back, if you were wondering."

"The lack of undergarments and bringing up such things is an odd combination, Tes. Can't say I've encountered it before."

"Well, your sister keeps saying you need to find a woman before you go crazy, and I don't mind providing a peek or two. The hat thing is still way too weird for me, though, so don't get too many ideas." Sinking herself lower into the hot waters, she makes a few content noises and slowly closes her eyes.

"You continue to wound me, Tes. To think you don't like my hats."

"No, I don't like your obsession with hats. If you ask me if my squad has found any hats one more time, I'm going to seduce your sister." She opens an eye to glare at you for a moment, then winks. Or maybe she blinked. Either way, she seems to be enjoying herself immensely.

"And to think you mentioned that you wanted a promotion not long ago. This certainly isn't the way to earn one."

"You still owe me the promotion, it wasn't a request while I was sitting in that creepy chamber, nearly naked and soaked in the cold. That torch wasn't even warm in there. And if I recall, enjoying the hot springs was part of your debt as well. A full day of it and no work."

Same here.

Let's see what she had in mind.

But it might also still be a good idea to have someone that we trust with our sister.
>>
"Well, what do you have in mind, Tes?"

The veteran armswoman shrugs, moving an arm to trace one of the scars upon her shoulder with a finger. You never really look at the scars most of your veteran armsmen wear, much like yourself, Keller and Elise. They're par for the course, really. With a weaker smile, Tes speaks in an unnervingly... unflirtatious tone. "I don't really know what I want, but all of us know we're pushing our luck as armsmen. We either end up moving on, crippled, or dead in the end." After a long silence, she sighs. "Ana might love all the blood and fighting, but I'm feeling like I need to start moving on, one way or another. Originals are only getting fewer in number."

tell her "that that puts thing s in perspective well", when we get off this mudball we should sound our sister out about who she had in mind for officers and if she would want Tes as an XO. If she does awesome, if she doesn't we offer Tes the personal assistant and official bodyguard

I say tell her that two positions pop into our head: The personal assistant and official bodyguard or being promoted to XO for our sister's transport.

>gauge reaction to being offered bodyguard position vs being promoted to a ship's XO, which is basically being tapped as being a potential future captain

Unless you guys want to implement a different method of determining who might Captain a captured ship, like the 'first to the bridge' deal Hariso uses?
>>
>>30940702
I'd sat first to the bridge is a fair policy. One concern however might be necessary recklessness and a lot of dead armsmen from officers scrabbling to get there fast.

Perhaps their claim is invalidated if they took more than twice as many casualties than the average losses of the other platoons?

>>
>>30940702
True. In that case I would change to Promote to XO.

I'm sure in the future we will do something like what Hariso does, but at the moment I feel putting someone we know as XO with our sister would be better.
>>
>>30940702
Merit and Loyalty seems like a good way to get Captains after we get a ship we basically tests our people to see if we can find these desired traits.

Objections?
>>
>>30940702
second
I kind of want to see how she holds up in a higher position of power before we put her in charge of a ship so lets gauge her reactions to our saggestions.
>>
>>30940975
just to clarify, Hariso's system was thus:

"The platoon leader that captures and -holds- the target's bridge until the ship is secured is made Prize Captain."

This allows the person in question to then prove them self worthy of remaining a Captain under Hariso. It also lets Hariso avoid dealing with actually dealing with who to assign, as his ship is a dedicated boarding vessel within the wolfpack, and often carries armsmen loyal to other Captains. [usually while their ships deal with any escorts or pesky ships with ideas of being heroes]

>>
"Well, that puts things in perspective, Tes. What do you think about being my personal assistant and bodyguard, or perhaps XO of the transport my sister will be in command of?"

You study her reaction, noting the flash of confusion before her brow furrows. "Is that supposed to be a choice or are you playing some game, Percius? Being your assistant isn't remotely near being a ship's XO, even if a transport isn't likely to make much in loot shares."

The armswoman looks at you for a long moment. "I wouldn't mind being XO on whatever you can put me on, Captain. Like I said, it isn't a choice at all."

Miss Alekto lurches to attention nearby, splashing steaming water into the air and surrounding snow. "Captain Aurex, message from Miss Eberhardt. Window for hot extraction in two hours. Alternate in two days after the storm clears."

Just woke up, but damnit people, we don't want to send Tes away just when we start making progress with her and we're gonna be gone for years raiding.

Make her our bodyguard and assistant, with a line at being XO when she's proven herself capable of handling matters we delegate to her, being XO is a fucking huge thing and she's just coming from being an experienced armswoman, lets promote her to our personal bodyguard and assistant, and coach her in the ways of command crew work and skills and see if she's cut out for an XO's position, and if she is, she gets first dibs on it.

how are we going to enjoy her flirtatious banter and warmth when she's light years away on a transport with only our sister for company...

true, but, here is the thing we will need to explain her being a body guard before we allow her to a higher position(to be honest wouldnt mind her being one of the captains of our ships).

Of course, she earned a promotion, but she didn't earn 3 which is what jumping to XO of a ship would be, we tell her, she earned a promotion as our bodyguard and assistant, which entails better quarters, loot, gear and authority and all that, and gets choice pick of assignments we give her or she's a part of, but she has to work for that XO's promotion

"Enjoy the hotsprings a while longer. This might be the last chance we get to enjoy them for months, and I've a few ideas on how to relax even more." You splash some water toward Tes as you stretch, causing the woman to roll her eyes at you. "Your shoulders still sore?"

She smiles and happily turns toward you, offering her shoulders and upper back to you and quickly making a series of happy groans at your ministrations upon her back. "If the pirate thing doesn't work out, Captain, you've got a promising line of work doing oh! this." Her head lolls slightly to the side as you work a particularly stubborn knot from between her shoulder blade and spine, one hand drifting slowly lower...

Your straying hand is grabbed at the wrist as Tes moves away, a sour look upon her face. "I said I didn't mind providing a peek or two, Percius. If I was going to fuck my way to a promotion I'd have done it already, and not in full view of everyone else." Tossing your hand aside, she retreats across the spring and crosses her arms. "The hat thing is still to weird for me, too."

In a little over two hours the skies above you clear, the snowstorms above you clearing as if they were simply a wall. A pair of arvus lighters dive into the clear skies, landing shortly after Keller and Ana fire signal flares to catch their attention. A familiar face greets you from the pilot's seat as everyone quickly loads up, Orsola double-checking that the wounded Terina's leg is properly immobilized before securing herself. "Captain Aurex, I trust you had a fun time on this dirt ball?"

"Just get us out of here, pilot."

"Aye, Captain."

A quick head count ensures that you're leaving no one behind, and soon you are greeted to the full sight of the storm that has swallowed your island. Only a roughly oval area of the landmass is visible, perhaps a hundred kilometers at the widest point. The southern portion of the storm seems to be more intact and uniform in appearance, while the northern edges seem to be almost fractured in their nature, the entire mass slowly spiraling counter-clockwise as you watch from beside the pilot.

"It's beautiful, from orbit, isn't it Captain?"

"It was hell for a bit on the ground, just a bit colder."

The rest of the flight passes in silence, fatigue suddenly striking your group as they feel gravity vanish. Most of them proceed to trudge off toward their quarters after arrival upon your raider, some nearby crew assisting with Terina's transfer to the Medicae. Elise is awaiting you just outside the lighter bay, a grin upon her face. "Not so easy, was it?"

"A winter wonderland, Miss Eberhardt. Got me a trophy kill, too. Size of a tank it was!" You toss one of the teeth from the beast toward her.

Inspecting the fang longer than her hand, Elise raises her eyebrows. "That might be the first time someone has actually backed up a claim like that, Captain. For now, you should go get some sleep. You look like someone kicked the shit out of you."

Out of pride and a bit of defiance you straighten your stance, your XO giving the change a weary look. "I think we should enjoy a bit of Tes' fine cooking, Elise." You turn, spotting Keller as he carries one of the roasted sections of the beast from the second lighter. "Mr Lorisit! Bring that fine example of our dear cook's art to the Mess, we shall toast our return." Your Master-At-Arms seems more than happy to offer you a salute of acknowledgement, changing his course slightly as you turn to Tes. "Tes, if you'd walk with me a bit? I require your assistance in a matter."

"Yeah?" The energy seems to be draining from Tes, but she manages to sound as if she playfully expects another seduction attempt.

"Miss Eberhardt, if you'd kindly fetch any paperwork or other things that require my immediate attention or approval and join us?"

"Of course, Captain Aurex. Back to the grind, then?"

"Back to the grind."

"Well I think you're all fools." Synne crosses her arms and frowns, looking at you. "We've been on that planet for how many days? I'm taking a shower and sleeping in a nice, soft bed."

Tes looks over at your sister, happily grumbling. "That sounds so nice right now." Her stomach makes a queer, hungry sound. "After food." You probably shouldn't allow her to drink, judging by the sound of her voice.

Your walk soon finds both you and Tes leaning upon eachother as exhaustion claws at your bodies, but neither of you offer complaint. "Tes, I'm officially promoting you to be my assistant and bodyguard. You're impressively skilled and I respect that, but I feel that you'd gain more from a gradual promotion toward XO. Ease into it, as it were. There are quite a number of things you'll need to learn and improve at, and we'll fatten up that wallet of yours a bit along the way. And I can't exactly let my favorite cook run off without training a replacement, now can I?"
>>
You both stop in the empty corridor, Tes turning her head to offer you a smile that for once doesn't seem lecherous. "I accept, but I'll not dress you like you're some sort of cripple."

"But that was going to be my favorite part, Tes." You pout, earning a friendly elbow to your ribs. "Ok, ok. You can even take the day off, tomorrow. Gotta let you rest before I start sending you running around the ship on errands."

The mess is quiet, nearly everyone present fresh from the surface save for Elise, who sits with a small collection of papers beside her. She is also the only one present with a glass of alcohol, the rest of you more than happy to break into even the poorest tasting source of hot recaff. Waiting until everyone seems to have had their fill and Keller has excused himself, she slides the forms toward you. "Your sister has been busy while you played around in the dirt and snow, Percius. She even braved Lord Wilson's ship, as your assistant working in your absence. Heard a few rumors from that, but I'm sure they're hearsay."

Reading through the papers, you find a series of scribbled notes in Alica's script, most of them inane calculations and notes save for the final page.

'enslaved' Techpriests refers to the Techpriests that rejected your offer to join your crew. They're technically slaves, but generally treated better since they're techpriests.

Some parties tear them apart for their bionics or out of punishment for their defiance. A few kinder parties simply make them servitors.
>>
>>30954497

Well then unless their loss would effect the smooth running of either of our ships, I can't fathom a reason to no trade them. they had their chance to join the winning side and chose ... poorly

>>30954582

Your transport will not run anywhere near smoothly, as it will have less than a tenth of it's normal crew. Alica will simply use it as an orbital base and try to increase the crew numbers while you run off to be a pirate.

The 'enslaved' techpriests have no bearing upon this.

"We'll contact Magos Hauftmund and see about accepting half of his offer, then speak to Mr Juntia about his carapaced voidsuits, I think." Taking a sip of your racaff, you enjoy the warmth of the liquid filling your throat and belly. "Did anything else happen while I was unavailable?"

Elise pulls out her dataslate, careful not to disturb Tes as she dozes beside her. "Alica requests that you transfer four of the six Arvus Lighters aboard this vessel to her own, along with competent pilots and an exchange of techpriests familiar with their upkeep. She'll transfer the Transport's lone Aquila Lander to us, giving us a pair of each craft aboard. A more recent message also states that she has mustered an additional six hundred armsmen and basic equipment for them, to join Captain Hariso's vessel in the coming raid." She smiles at your expression. "She had good help, I assure you."

"Second, Captain Modori wishes to purchase the 'ugly' lighters we're in possession of. She wishes you to simply send an offer or rejection, as she claims to be quite busy with matters upon her ship. If you ask me, she's probably preparing to purge a traitor from her ranks or just doesn't want to bother meeting with you."

"Interesting." You take a moment to process the information, holding the warmth of your recaff mug and wondering how long you'll enjoy the lack of biting cold upon you. "So what rumors have you heard of my sister's little trip to Lord Wilson's vessel?"

"The usual rumors a good looking female runs into in this fleet, really. That she used her body to seal a few deals more in her favor, that she is actually your concubine. One or two said she was my concubine, which I may have played up a bit at a few points." Your flat glance is met with a soft, smug smile. "No one even thought it possible she was your sister, however, so that secret remains until you reveal it."

"Is that all, Elise? Or do you want to give me a detailed report about how you actually ravaged my sister as well?"

"Oh don't be like that, Percius. I'm just having a bit of fun with you, and your sister can handle herself just as well as the rest of us." A tap to your shin from her boot jolts you slightly. "There is the issue of actually naming both of the vessels you now command. This raider never seemed to have one, and I've given up trying to even remember the Transport's. Alica insists you," she pauses, her eyes looking upward at her brow as she frowns much like Alica often does, "Do your duty, Percius! You always were a lazy lout when it came to details!" She grins after finishing her impression of your elder sister.

"That wasn't half bad, actually."

"I'm flattered, Percius."

reject the offer on the ugly, it is our only dedicated boarding vessel

raider's name: Chimera (since its reffited....I'm not good at this)
Transport's name: Hummingbird
>>
>>30956140

also, I don't have the first clue about 40k ship naming conventions so...yeah
>>
>>30955944
>Alica requests that you transfer four of the six Arvus Lighters aboard this vessel to her own, along with competent pilots and an exchange of techpriests familiar with their upkeep. She'll transfer the Transport's lone Aquila Lander to us, giving us a pair of each craft aboard. A more recent message also states that she has mustered an additional six hundred armsmen and basic equipment for them, to join Captain Hariso's vessel in the coming raid."
Approved

"Second, Captain Modori wishes to purchase the 'ugly' lighters we're in possession of. She wishes you to simply send an offer or rejection, as she claims to be quite busy with matters upon her ship. If you ask me, she's probably preparing to purge a traitor from her ranks or just doesn't want to bother meeting with you."
How much did we buy them for? add 5% and sell them to Captain Modori, they really do handle like pigs.

As for ship names I suggest Le Chapeau Noir for our raider, and I don't know about the transport, maybe name it after our father, I think our sisters would like that.
>>
>>30956232

better not to name a pirate ship on our father and send the rest of the Aurex family further into shit
>>
>>30956188
You're a pirate, fuck naming conventions!

>>30956140
>dedicated boarding vessel

Please be aware that the pair of 'ugly' lighters you have are more suited to augmenting your ship-to-ship 'age of sail' style boarding attacks, as sending two of them against even a lowly transport ship's defensive armaments is likely to end poorly.

They're quite literally an Arvus Lighter with a bunch of melta bombs on their belly. Nimble and resistant to anti-tank weaponry they are not.

That said, they can and have acted as a means to stream armsmen through a an enemy ship's hull.

And please feel free to ask for more information on craft or crew upon your ships. I'm well aware that not all of this information is on the wiki, despite that it should be
>>
>>30956330

ok, How could our Aquilas handle a boarding actions? Can they create hull openigs like the ugly's or we would have to breach the ship with cannos before boarding?

I'm reluctant to give away our capacity do be flexible with our raidiing....if maybe our Engiseer could copy the schematics to install a similar hull opening device on our more resistant Aquilas I wouldn't mind selling the uglies
>>
>>30956312

I wasn't thinking last name as that might blow our secret identity as well as bring disrepute upon our house. I think naming it simply the Wallaby would be fine, though.
>>
>>30956494

Oh, yeah....Wallaby sems nice if Alice is ok with it...but I don't know if Synne will react very well, since she still hasn't come to terms with her loss
>>
>>30956386

The Aquila Lander is not suited for boarding actions due to it's large wingspan and small transport capacity. It is more of a VIP orbit/surface transport, though it is armed with a nose-mounted weapon (in your case, both have autocannon), fairly maneuverable, and is armored fairly well for atmospheric reentry.

The Arvus Lighter is more of a cargo lifter, capable of transporting 12 men. It isn't uncommon to hear of them being used as makeshift boarding craft or combat transports in desperate times, though they are unarmed and armored only enough to survive atmospheric reentry. It is a rare ship that doesn't carry an Arvus lighter or small craft like it.

>breach the ship with cannons before boarding

While breaching a target ship with cannons does help with boarding, your crew are more than capable of assaulting one of the countless access points naturally built into kilometer long voidships. A good portion of combat against two ships with comparable boarding strength will take place across the hulls, complete with the defensive guns of each ship adding their weight to the battle.

>copy the schematics
Miss Yulem is fully capable of reproducing an 'ugly' modification, if you allow her to convert a standard Arvus and possess enough melta bombs (and related supplies) to set up the breaching charge.
>>
>>30956790

How is our stock on melta charges? like the ones we ourselfs used to board this raider?

Ok, I say we get a price estimative from our techpriest responsible for taking care of the small crafts. If the price is good we should let them go but if it will not make much of a difference in our balance I say we hold them because they can prove usefull in specific situations

You've enough melta charges for two more uses of the pair of Uglies.

No members of your crew are currently assigned melta charges.

Melta charges are currently guarded very jealously within the fleet, due to sparse stocks.

>>30956232
>how much did we buy them for?

You bought them as a series of wrecks during your infiltration of Sector Paxia, which were then rebuilt into a single craft.

Arvus Lighters were selling for 100 Wealth or so within the fleet, last you heard.
>>
>>30957363

So for two uglies we could conceivably clear 200 to 250 wealth. There are a lot of nice things that could buy us.
>>
>>30956232
1 vote for Approving Alica's request, none against.

>Transfering craft

Seeing a split on selling the uglies, will let it run a bit longer to see what happens.

Seems that naming the Transport subtly after your Father is favored.

Might have to toss up a survey for ship names.
>>
>>30957482
Very possible, and profitable, as looking back it seems that the two ships combined cost you a paltry 12 wealth (and originally consisted of as many wrecks!)

>original description of 'Ugly' Lighters

>An abomination unto the eyes, the 'Ugly' Assault Lighter is in fact an approved modification of the Arvus Lighter. Featuring a second pair of engines and a heavy addition of armored plating, the 'Ugly' lives up to it's name in every way. This craft is capable of deploying a single squad of armed and armored men through the craft's 'belly' after firing melta charges to breach an enemy ship or installation. It can then function as an airlock or simply a passage for other forces deployed among the target's exterior via the rear loading door. Uglies are notoriously difficult to pilot and incapable of atmospheric flight.

You share a brief tail of your travels with Elise for a while before the growing feeling of exhaustion pulls you toward a nice, hot shower and some sleep. Contacting the bridge after enjoying the feeling of crisp, clean clothing against your skin, you find that Magos Hauftmund has returned a counter offer. For 150 of the Techpriest prisoners, he will trade only 400 Carapace voidsuits.

You'd hoped to armor closer to 700 men. Damn. At least Fredrick Juntia seems to have eagerly confirmed that his offer was still on the table.

Alright go us!

So we that ought to be enough to equip the 'rookies' with half carapace.
As for the carapace armor: give a set of to all of our officers who don't already have it, ditto the named characters from Aurex's originals. Also set aside two sets for armsmen Edwards and armsman Trianna, we are going to make them bodyguards and gofers fro Tes.
Finally send 100 sets of carapace over to the captured transport in order to equip Alica, her officers and company two

>>30958652

>carapace armor for officers
I should probably mention that all of your officers that lacked carapace armored voidsuits have since used their personal funds to get themselves one. Huzzah for loot!

Your sisters did not, as they don't get a cut of the loot. You could assign them something or give them a bit of wealth to buy their own. (maybe, they might buy something else. Givingyoursistersmoney.jpg)

>crew

Your Raider's crew is approx ~24,000 souls, + a max of 1,200 armsmen/passengers in addition to that.

The transport has a crew closer to 20,000 souls, but you've only got a skeleton crew of just under 1,000 souls aboard it, plus armsmen to keep order.

Your crew provide their own equipment in general, and they're free to leave at any port you might visit, as per the ways of the wolfpack. They'll upgrade themselves, you just worry about the dedicated armsmen you muster when it comes to equipment.
>>
>>30958841
took a look at the update armsmen page and I think that my orders still apply.

Carapace armor for our sisters (not that we expect they will be getting into a fight but you never know)
Carapace armor for any of Aurex's originals (Ketur, Dent, Adept Jere, Ana, Tes) who don't have it.
Carapace armor for Company two who are currently in Half-Carapace and attached to the captured transport
carapace armor for Terina and Hugh Edwards, whom we are promoting to assistant bodyguard

Half-Carapace for Company Four 'Rookies' and Company Five 'Not-Rookies'

I believe that ought to leave us with
Voidsuits: Carapace x199
Voidsuits: Half Carapace x244
Voidsuits: Flak Armoured x671
>>
>>30959055
We should just distribute the rest of the equipment to the men. Because unused equipment is wasted equipment.
>>
>>30959055

Done.

I'm going to call it here for the week and handle some note cleanup and wiki work that I've been meaning to take care of.

I'll be around to answer any questions and possibly take care of any minor things people want to handle before departing on the raid for at least a few hours.

Thanks for playing!
>>
>>30958841

I have a question about the mechanics on Alecia's Armsmen, I know that they are currently assigned to captain Hasiro's ship and I figure that we have very little control over them but do they give us some a cut of the loot from any ships they take? If so what kind of cut? If it is one of her platoons who take the bridge does the ship be come ours? hers? the company leaders?
>>
>>30959478

also did we ever coem to a consensus about the uglies? A 2000% profit is hard to pass up.
>>
>>30959670

Still a tie vote, unless I've missed something.

>>30959563

As Alica will not be deploying her ship on this, her armsmen will fall under your command. They'll be upon Captain Hariso's ship, which has dorsal macrocannon that fire giant boarding hooks/harpoons/chains at short range, ensnaring a target ship and hopefully preventing the target from fleeing.

You can order them to try and capture the bridge of the ship, claiming it for yourself under Hariso's system, or have them attempt to storm certain areas of the ship to claim prisoners/loot, or just generally ensure the ship is taken.
>>
>>30960062
What else do we have that can board voidships
>>
Ship name survey up on wiki, board thinks link is spam

>>30961061
>What else do we have that can board voidships

The only real method to board and capture a voidship is to swap paint with it and exchange boarding parties. Even voidships equipped to launch swarms of attack craft generally manage to land enough forces to conduct hit and run attacks.

>200-250 wealth for the 2 craft, we got them for almost nothing and have no real need that cant be filled by other stuff we already have, so we should sell them.
Is that 200-250 for each or both together? if its each, why not sell one and keep the other as a backup, if its for both, its still an awesome deal and we should probably sell them
>>
>>30961825
200-250 for both. they will probably try to get them for like 180 or so though
>>
hey MS I think you might have forgotten my suggestion of the name Le Chapeau Noir for the raider from post >>30956232 in the name survey, either that or I had a touch too much to drink
>>
>>30961419

An unmodified Arvus Lighter is going for 100+ wealth, among the wolfpack.

>>30961868
This is probably a slightly low estimate, considering the extra pair of engines, armor and melta bomb rigs. Taking less than 100 Wealth for one of these craft would be either a sign of good will or more likely the result of a goods barter. Or a sudden increase in the number of similar craft.

Is there anything you folks especially want updated on the wiki, or pages made?

>Is there anything you folks especially want updated on the wiki, or pages made?
dice rules would be good to have readily available on the wiki

on the lighters, considering modifications I'd say lowest we'd prefer to sell them for would be 150 wealth each
>>
>>30962303
You can ask for anything you like, though they're unlikely to go for 200 a pop.

I believe in Imperial space there were Arvus Lighters selling for ~20 wealth, so inflation is very much in effect for items among the wolfpack.
>>
>>30962408
Does the imperium hate/want to kill us? If not we should go on a shopping spree
>>
>>30962544

It is safe to say that the Imperium would, in fact, kill you on sight if they knew you were a pirate.

Which is why you assumed the identity of a man you recently killed during your return home and general infiltration of Sector Paxia.
>>
>>30962629
so that means shopping trip! YAY!!
then resell to pirate buddies at much higher price.
Is there a forge world we can buy this stuff from for even cheaper or is all this stuff from the black market?
>>
>>30962742
yeaaaah no, not until we get some distance and a different ship and a SOLID cover and history, and unless the forge world is rogue, going to one of them would be worse than trying to buy them normally from imperial planets
