Let's see, news.

Work is progressing slowly, but steadily, on an old planes and mercs rule set I had, years ago. Been getting mixed messages about putting in optional rules for witches, probably just leave them out, honestly.

I'll be stopping for evening chow at some point, so if i disappear for around an hour and a half, well. you know where I went.

Lost the link for the pastebin, I'll post it up later when i find it, haha!

“So what's this going to mean?” You ask Katya, who's sitting on the other side of the door from you.

The two of you are out in the hall, making sure that Ice is able to talk with Slider and Katya's mother in peace- without interruptions. You figure you're largely superfluous in that regard- it's been Katya's chilly glare that's chased off most of the witches who've come by.

She shrugs. “I am not sure. The current government, of course, would not want her to make a claim and return to Russia, it would go against everything they stand for to have a monarch return.” She says, looking over. “But another government may wish to take advantage of her status, or perhaps even someone within Russia looking to have a revolution of their own.”

“You think she's in danger then? Assassins or something?” You ask, suddenly worried.

Katya shakes her head. “No one outside that room knows, except for maybe the matrons at Leningrad.” She says. “If they did know, I am sure steps would be taken to protect her. I am more worried for her mental health.”

1/3
>>
You nod as she continues- you can't help but agree. Despite the end of your combat deployment, you've no doubt your current posting- and all the witches running around this place- are any less stressful for the boss. Maybe it's worse, even, since aboard ship, she only had to deal with the squadron and occasionally the CAG or captain, here... well. She's on her own, and while you know that's not exactly new, it's not easy.

“Tabitha has been under a lot of pressure, especially recently.” Katya continues, as much to herself as you. “She and I may not always agree, but I do not wish to see her like this either. I sometimes think my mother is perhaps too anxious to give Tabitha those documents. All they will be, at least now, is more stress on her.”

“Yeah, but what can we do?” You respond. “I mean, it's not like we can just tell her to forget about all of it and go home or something. She's military, like the rest of us, and you know witches don't always have it as easy as people think.”

Katya shakes her head. “No, I know this. I think perhaps you forget where I have been.” She smiles as she says that- reminding you that while you were cramming for exams and trying to just get through the naval academy, she was engaged over Ahfganistan.

“Sorry.” You say. She smiles a little wider and laughs.

2/3
>>
“It is easy to forget, I am thinking, for the rest of us.” She says. “And it is ok. I do not carry on about it, so I take you forgetting as a sign that I am one of you. But you are right, we must do something, no one else will. Hmm...” She trails off, lost in thought.

“Wait!” She suddenly exclaims. “I know. You and I, we were to go to London soon, yes?”

You nod.

“We will wait for this, and one of us will take her somewhere. It must be one of us, I am thinking- no one else will work. Rachel must stay here if Tabitha leaves, and Patty is a poor fit for her personally. She is close to you, and the matrons can be convinced to use the week to develop more testing outlines with their witches. I can help her because I know some of the troubles she is having, and know how to deal with them.” She nods, pleased with her plan. “Yes, this is what we must do. You or I must take her on leave for however long we can get. I will talk to Rachel about this, she will agree.”

[] I'm not sure this is a good idea. Can't we do something for her here?
[] They'll never agree to let me take her. You'd better do it.

[x] I'm due a lot of leave as well, I'll do it.

You mull it over for a while, thinking about what, exactly, she's telling you to do. Eventually, you nod.

“Yeah, I'm due a lot of leave time.” You say. “I'll take her. Wonder if we can get back to the states on a two week?”

Katya shakes her head. “I am thinking no, but I think that is fantasy anyway. I do not think they will agree to two weeks, they need her here too much. A week, perhaps.” She nods again. “Yes, a week. This is what we will ask for.”

“What about Konstantina?” You ask, remembering. “She didn't take me leaving Russia so well, what's she going to think about me disappearing with another witch?”

Katya laughs. “She will not be happy, but she is still loyal enough to listen to my mother. She will not be a problem for you.”

“So, when do we tell her? Ice, I mean.” You say.

Katya grins and stands up. “Right now.” She says, opening the door and walking in.

“It's just that this is... is... “ Ice is saying, trailing off when you and Katya walk in. “What's wrong?” She asks.

Katya smiles. “Nothing is wrong. But you, we are thinking, need a rest.”

“I'm not going back to bed, not right now.” Ice responds, shaking her head. “I couldn't sleep anyway. I mean, this...”

Katya nods. “We are aware of this, yes. However, you need a break. When is the last time you were on leave?”

Ice pauses. “I can't-”

The craziest thing Fronk has done is drywall some bitches in. Going full Kurtz on Castle Barin is more of a Young thing than a Fronk thing, remember, Fronk is way more responsible than Young ever was.
>>
“Exactly.” Katya says, looking over at Slider for support. “We are not needed for active combat duty, you need leave. You will take Frank with you, to make sure you do not attempt to do paperwork or other things while you are not here.”

“Leave? I can't- there's no way it'd get approved, and- and- “ Ice starts.

Slider grins. “The only time you start carrying on like that is when you can't come up with a good reason not to. Let's not bullshit, Tabby, she's right. You and loverboy here need to go somewhere that isn't a naval base or somehow related to one. I'll handle the matrons-”

Katya's mom coughs. “You're maybe forgetting me?” She says. “I am a matron. I can handle the rest of them if you think this is important.”

“It is.” You say. “She's got a habit of trying to work herself to death and-”

“I do not!” Ice returns. “But there's always so much to do and-”

“And thank you for making Franks point.” Slider cuts her off. “How long do ya think we can part with them?” She says, looking at at Tatiana.

“I don't know. I will argue for a week.” She says. “This I know I can get, western matrons are more... accommodating than I am used to. Less willing to yell at each other and resolve it later over drinks.”

“What if I don't want to go?” Ice says, butting back in. “I mean, has anyone even asked?”

“Nope!” Slider says, cheerily. “And it doesn't matter anyway, cos you're going, and you're going to like it. Next question?”

“W-where are you going t-to go?” Merlin asks, quietly, from the side of the room- you'd almost forgotten she was here.

[] Somewhere here in the UK. London, maybe? Scotland? Not sure.

“Somewhere here in the UK, I think.” You say, after a second. “Don't want to get too far away, in case something does go down, but there's still plenty to do here.”

Slider nods. “Yeah, that sounds like a plan. Tabby? How does that sounds? Sounds good, right?”

“Rachel, please.” Ice says, looking over at her friend. “I'm going along with this because you're all forcing me to. I have other things to do than play tourist for a week. “

“Not anymore ya don't!” Slider laughs. “Now, c'mon. Missus Mack made dinner, and I plan to get some before it's gone. And you need to eat still, that... thing... Frank brought up was nowhere near enough food and we both know it.”

“I- fine.” Ice says, standing up suddenly. “When should I expect we'll be leaving?”

“Just as soon as I can make the arrangements. Sooner if you're going to be a bitch about this, though.” Slider responds, sweetly. “I'm sure Frank or one of the twins wouldn't mind fishing you out of the water to start your leave off.”

Ice shoots a glare over at Slider- who returns her unblinking stare with a twisted sort of half smile glued to her face. “We both know you'd lose, Tabs. Don't start.” Slider warns, and Ice looks away, stalking out of the room.

“Is she really that pissed?” You ask, following along with Merlin and Slider after Katya and Tatiana have left. “I mean, damn.”

Slider shakes her head. “She's pissed because she thinks she's completely indispensable and that the place is going to burn down without her.” She laughs. “Of course, she forgets that I'm here and that This shit is acutally pretty easy if you're willing to get along with the important people.”

“Important people?” You ask. “Like?”

1/2 (maybe)
>>
Slider indicates Katya's mother with a dip of her head. “Like her. The Soviet witches ain't exactly noted for being huge members of the world community anymore, and all the rest of them are anxious for news of how they've been doing the past fifty or so years. Plus, she's a matron general, which is weird, since we don't have that kind of thing in the US, really.”

“Witches can make rank though, shit, look at Captain Blackwell.” you say. “I mean, she's not in charge of all USN witches, but...”

Slider shrugs. “But the concept is different. We've got witches in conventional commands, like the cap, sure. But we don't have a witch in charge of all witches. It's just strange.” She says.

“Right. So you're on good terms with her, so you have it easier?” You ask.

Slider shrugs. “Kinda. I'm not so busy that I don't take time to talk to people, is all. Now quit diggin for info. You're supposed to be planning a romantic getaway.”

“Rom- hardly.” You say.

Slider laughs. “Yeah, sure. Like I don't know what Katya's trying to do.”

2/3 (nope)
>>
“What's she trying to do?” You ask. “I mean, if you're so sure.”

“Nope.” Slider responds. “If you don't know, I'm not telling ya.”

You shake your head- she's completely making this shit up to mess with you, you're sure. You're not about to fall for that one.

In the kitchen, you note that the table's practically full of food, the members of the squadron all seated around it already, with a few other faces just sitting down.

You nod to Georgette, who's just putting a basket of rolls on the table- she motions for you to sit down and help yourself.

That's when you notice a witch in a familiar Air force uniform, her red hair cut short. She looks up when she sees you and starts. “You-” She chokes out. “Don't you go anywhere Bishop!” She practically yells, scrambling out of her seat. “You stay right there!”

[x] She wouldn't dare. Not in Georgette's kitchen. Sit down and wait.

This, you reflect, is Georgette's kitchen. The very same kitchen she's chased more than one matron out of with a few words. It is her domain, her place of being, and all who reside there do so under her watchful and loving gaze.

Or something of that nature, anyway. You've seen her cut arguments dead in their tracks with a single disapproving glance, you're relatively sure you're safe here from anything the colonel wants to do.

So, thus having set your mind at peace, you sit down and begin helping yourself to dinner- A large roast. You're pretty sure it's like two whole cows, but you know better than to ask- either way, it's a healthy amount of meat.

Merlin looks torn for a minute, waffling between an empty seat near you and one near Kenji- finally opting to sit near you. You're not sure you approve of that, really- but you're willing to chalk it up to you getting ready to leave soon.

Your meal is interrupted when your world suddenly gets dark and muffled- something being dropped on your head. You reach up and remove the offending shirt- a slate grey sweatshirt, USAF emblazoned across the chest in plain black block letters.

1/2
>>
“Merry late Christmas, Bishop.” Colonel MacLeod says, sitting back down. “Hope that's the right size.”

You check the tag and nod. “Yeah, it is. Thanks Colonel. What brings you here?”

“Air force orders.” She says. “You and Wells seem to have every eye on you from all over, and we can't let the navy have all the fun.” She says. “And I'm the only witch they had that knew you before you started doing all this, so here I am.”

Past that moment of brief excitement, dinner is laid back- for which you're grateful. Finally, Merlin and Kenji leave, off to watch a movie they say, though they're probably headed towards the gym. They're the only ones that use it, you've noticed, and they've kind of made it their own little place in the castle. You'd admit to some jealousy, but you're pretty sure you could set up a place of your own pretty easily.

You leave after Georgette insists- for the third time- she doesn't need help cleaning up, and you find yourself without something to do- or a witch with you. The second is more unusual than the first, given the posting you're at, but you're almost pleased, in a way. You've got time to kill, but you're not sure how you want to kill it.

[x] Let's go see about that wine cellar, I think I saw a crowbar in the hangar....

It doesn't take you long to decide- that damned wine cellar has been calling your name ever since you discovered it.

You head out to the hangar, pulling on your Christmas gift and nodding- it's pretty nice, logo aside. You'll have to get her something equally nice next Christmas, maybe a blanket?

You mull it over on the way, nodding politely to the few witches you see- the whole place is starting to slow down, witches heading to their respective rooms or the few places where just relaxing is an option. It makes you question your brief desire to go to the bath- place is bound to be packed.

In the hangar, it only takes you a minute to find what you're after- a solid steel wrecking bar, the kind they use to smash in the heads of zombies in those movies. Getting a feel for it's weight, you head back through the castle, stopping once in your room to grab a flight bag- an empty one.

Heading down into the basement levels, you make your way through the forgotten corridors- noting that it doesn't look different at all from when you were there last. Hell, even the boxes of paperwork from 19-whenever are still there. It kind of makes you wonder, really, what else might be hidden in holds- even this one, as used as it has been, has a place like this, where shit's been forgotten. What about some of the really old holdings?

A question for the ages, you think.

Finally, you get to the basement under the tower, noting that someone else has been down here- a few of the other doors are open. Fortunately, you think, you've never been scared of the dark.

1/2
>>
>>30925067
>that someone else has been down here
ENTER STEALTH MODE!
>>
The door is wedged in solidly, the frame deformed by the weight on it from above. It takes a while- eventually, though, you work it open.

You have to wait a second to let the room air out- you're sure it wasn't sealed completely, but better safe than sorry, here. Finally, you step inside, noting that there's more than a few bags full of bottles with their tops still sealed. You'll have to make extra trips.

Heading back is just as simple- though you've had to jam the wrecking bar through a belt loop to carry the bag full of vintage wine bottles.

You're just as surprised as Konstantina is when you see her walking towards you, flashlight in hand and, somewhat worringly, pistol on her hip.

“M-my love? What are you doing down here?” She asks. “I had not expected to see you here.”

[x] Gathering supplies.

“Gathering supplies.” You respond, nonchalantly. “But keep it a secret, ok?”

She nods. “Of course, darling.”

You eye her pistol momentarily. “What about you?” you ask. “What brings you down here.”

She glances around. “I am learning the layout of the castle grounds, beloved. If we must fight here, I intend to know the entire castle.” She says. “I am armed because it would be improper of me to not be. I understand if you do not need a pistol, but I am not as capable as you, my love, and must carry one.”

You nod, accepting this answer. “You think we'll have to fight here?”

She looks at you. “I don't know darling. If we do, I will be prepared. I know that you will not need such preparation, but please don't judge me too harshly.”

“It's ok.” You say, reaching out to ruffle her hair. “If anyone is stupid enough to attack us here, I'm sure we'll make them regret it.”

“O-of course darling!” She stammers, a blush raising on her face after you touch her. “I-I must go. There is still much ground I need to cover.”

You nod, and she brushes by- perhaps a hair too closely, but you're not too worried about it. You're pretty sure, under the unhealthy obsession, there's a pretty good person in there. And she's plenty good looking, so there's that too.

You make your way back to the squadron's rooms, looking for Slider. Having no luck, eventually you sigh and head over to Ice's office, where you find everyone gathered.

1/3
>>
“Frank? Where have you been?” Ice asks. “We were looking for you and-”

“Downstairs.” You say, holding up the bag. “Gathering critical supplies.”

Slider pulls out a bottle as soon as you set it down on the desk. “Wow. Thirty-eight. Where'd you find these?”

“There's a collapsed section under the ruined tower.” You say, pulling the rest of the bottles out. “There was a wine cellar in there, Ice and I ran into it when we went exploring.”

Slider nods, looking at each in turn. “Oh wow, there's one from forty two in here.” She says. “There's only a few dozen bottles of French stuff that got made that year, before the country fell. Wonder who's collection that was from?”

You shrug. “There's a good thirty or forty bottles down there that I didn't get, so I'm not sure what all is in there.” You say.

“Well, we'll have to try some, you know.” Slider says, spinning another bottle gently to look at the faded, peeling label. “Jeeze, forty six. This must have been the first batch post war.”

“So this is a good find?” You ask.

Slider shrugs. “Honestly, I ain't the one to be asking. Let's call Rosalie in here.”

You nod, agreeing. Slider strides out, looking for the French witch.

“So, you excited?” You ask ice.

“About the wine?” She responds.

You shake your head. “About leave.”

She shrugs. “I'm not mad about it anymore. I just wish you guys didn't force it on me like that.”

“You needed it boss.” You say. “You've had a lot of stuff dumped on you-”

“I know and-” She shakes her head. “And I'm worried about what it will mean if it gets out.”

“Navy?” You ask, looking up at her.

She nods. “I'm afraid they'll recall me and put me somewhere safe. Use me as a bargaining chip or political tool. I'm not new to politics, I've been playing them ever since... well, since Tanana, or thereabouts. But I don't-” She sighs. “I don't want to be like that.”

2/3
>>
You give her a wry grin. “Yeah, being a bargaining chip kinda sucks.”

She looks at you for a second. “I didn't- sorry Frank. I didn't mean it like that.”

You shrug. “No harm, no foul boss. Just saying.”

“Still, there's lots to do and I-” She starts, and you're forced to cut her off.

“And you need a break. C'mon, it's not going to be that bad. We can play tourist and hit up a buncha old museums and shit and poke around London and maybe have fun.” You say.

“I don't think-” She's interrupted this time by Rosalie and Slider returning.

“Is this- mon dieu...” Rosalie says, looking at the bottles. “These are- this is... Where are these from?” She says. “Nineteen forty two? C'est impossible! These are the lost years! Where did you find these?”

“There's an old cellar downstairs.” You say. “Under the ruined tower. Are these a good find?”

“Oui. Priceless.” She says, her voice an almost breathless whisper. “I must call some people, Frank. Please, don't open any of these!”

You didn't think the wine would be such a big deal. Leave it to the French, you muse.

And that's it for the night!

We actually ran a lot slower there because of some things going on here at the house, the thread should have covered about three times the ground it did, and I'm really sorry about that one guys. I'll work on having that type of shit sorted next run.

Meanwhile, I do have some news that may or may not be welcome for you- after a two year hiatus, I'm getting back into the paintball thing, and that means I'm picking up some obligations with the teams I belong to. now, this *shouldn't* affect our runs at all, but skype conferences can be almost any day, and if one falls on Tuesday, well.... I'll work on keeping the twitter completely up to date, so keep an eye on that and we should be golden.

Anyway, as usual guys, I hope you had a good time, and we'll be back next week at the usual time! hopefully we can get the run speed up a bit, again, sorry.

Till next week fellas, cheers!
