You are John James Green, mutant vagrant.

You’ve been in a cocoon for a week. Maybe. Now you’re back underground, all warm and safe in your lovely subway station, surrounded by your friends/acquaintances/fellow destitutes. Your clothes are the (former) belongings of a man several sizes broader than you, and hang from your arms like loops of shed skin. You’ve just eaten, but you’re still hungry – apparently, being totally coma’d out in a giant soupy cocoon isn’t the stress-free activity you’d imagine it being.

You’ve resolved to go see Peter, mostly out of worry for the ultimate fate of his workplace associate, Ben Urich, whose lack of a right ear is probably at least 70% your fault. Layla is intent on tagging along for some reason.

Oh, and it’s Christmas Morning, apparently.

“Right,” You heave yourself up, still a little tired. “Let’s be off.”

You make your way out of the scar with Layla, her incessant chatter almost seeming to frame your short journey through the skeletal remains that dot the landscape. She hasn’t mentioned exactly why she wanted to tag along, but you imagine it may have something to do with the slim chance at a real meal presented by the Parker household.

Well, that’s not happening. You’re not mooching on Christmas freakin’ Day.

As you enter the city proper, you can’t help but be surprised at the number of people still out and about. That’s one thing that always catches you off guard about NY. Back home, the town would be enclosed in a glimmering, sacred hush. Here, everything just keeps on chugging, the gears of the city grinding unstoppably on.

You’re making your way across a road when your ears perk up, your senses scooping something from the general auditory miasma of the universe.

“…Yeah, it’s definitely JJ, I’m lookin’ straight at him…”

The hairs on the back of your neck stand to attention, claws nudging at the soft flesh atop your fingers. You glance over the road, in the direction of the voice, and catch a glimpse of some guy – this skinny, red-haired guy with a small hill of plastic bags clustered at his feet – whispering into his phone.

Really? On Christmas Day?

We are technically stronger than her but her kung fu is on the same level as Laura. Do you think we could beat Laura? If we get into a hand to hand fight with her with our powers the way they are we will lose no question about it.

Kevin is the only character we've met that can kill her but he's even more of a boy scout than JJ is. And Kimura would just shoot him with her gun if he got close.

Right.

Right. No need to make a fuss. Could be another JJ – there’s a lot of those guys. James, Jake, John, Jeremey, Joseph (fucking Joseph), Jasmine, Joyce…

You pass him by, sparing him not even a moment’s more attention. Visible attention, anyway. Every other sense in your arsenal zeroes in on him, stripping down his every move. Not long after you turn a nearby corner, his footsteps light up in your internal telemetry, making their way after you. Could still be a coincidence, right?

You take another turn. And another. And then duck through a quick shortcut, cutting your way around the back of one of a nearby delicatessen you’ve slept behind enough times to recognize. He follows at a distance.

“…What’re we doing?” Asks an increasingly confused Layla.

In the corner of your eye, you spot one of those huge, metal bins you used to raid for leftovers.

“You’re hiding behind that.” You point to the container.

“…Why?” Her expression is an almost perfect crucible of confusion and disgust.

“Just do it, alright?” Gently, you shoo her toward the dumpster, your hushed tone seemingly effective at instilling some urgency. She hunkers down, pinching her nose and eying you vengefully.

“This better be important.”

You respond by blinking out of visibility. Sidling up under one of the fire escapes that loom across the alley, you await your tail, who arrives shortly, his breath laboured with the weight of the bags swaying from his fingers. He hurries past you, glancing furtively around the nearby corner.

Silently, you curse this entire series of events.

Christmas Day, man. Why can’t these people let you just have your Christmas? You didn’t even get any presents or anything. Have you not been a cool enough dude to drag yourself off the naughty list? Is this really how the unspecified cosmic force that may or may not preside over the universe and may or may not have died for mankind’s sins at some point really wants to get its jollies, just kicking you around and shit?

In the absence of any unspecified help from the unspecified cosmic aforementioned, you are forced, once again, to take matters into your own hands.

As the young man makes his way round the corner, you grab one of his arms, bringing your free hand up to stifle a yelp (and, not entirely coincidentally, rest your claws against some very soft, vulnerable cheekflesh). He jerks against you, mostly reflexively, but you’re significantly stronger than he is, and manage to pin him against the wall.

His eyes swing wildly in their sockets and his free arm plunges into his jacket…

I assume you're talking about his berserk mode? We can play it off in character as that yes. But those anons are still here and a few threads ago where joking about how they only voted for draconic breath so they can cause arson and burn down part of the city.

…It doesn’t get there, though, as you manage to effectively wedge his hand between the wall and his ribcage. Hopefully without breaking anything too important, but you doubt you’ll feel all too much guilt over a broken finger or two. Even if he turns out to be relatively benign, guy needs to realize that the stalker routine is not going to be popular with people.

He struggles briefly, but soon realizes that he’s well and truly helpless.

“H-hey, man, look, I was just”–

“Just what?” You growl. You pause, somewhat taken aback at the throaty, vaguely reptilian undercurrent to your voice. That sounded a little Jurassic Park for your liking. “Just following my every step? Yeah, I could tell.”

He swallows.

“…N-nah…” He asserts, his voice trailing off into a mutter. “…I’m just, just… I’m wasn’t doing that…”

His heart beats frantically in his chest. He’s afraid – it soaks through him, a cold, frenetic acidity, curdling in his breath. You can feel tendons strumming anxiously against one another, adrenaline strumming them up into a quiet fury. He’s itching for any way out, his entire frame flinching from one second to the next, constantly feeling for some small weakness, some hole he can slip through.

Relieving him of his phone, you pocket it. Could come in handy.

“Hey, man that’s – gah!” You twist his arm a little harder. Not hard enough to snap anything, but the message is clear. Quiet.

“Why were you following me?” You ask.

He squirms silently, just breathing in and out for a second. Flicking through possible stories, no doubt.

“L-look, I wasn’t gonna do anything, okay?” Okay. That’s nice to know, you guess. “I was just told to call if I set eyes on you. C-creeper wants you, so, yeah, that’s… that’s it.”

He fidgets, trying to ease the pressure on his trapped hand, and glances back at you.

“Please, don’t hurt me or… do some mutant shit to me, or something…” He motions to the bags at his feet. “It’s Christmas, man. I-I’ve got a family waiting for me. Please… don’t kill me. I swear, I’ll be out of your life forever – and I mean forever, forever.”

>>
>>30979258
The people that joined at thread 50 have been trying to change the character for a while now. When people play the same character for a long time (like the people that have been her from the beginning) is is difficult to get them to change.

>>
>>30979273
Yeah, I wouldn't have voted to let him move if it wasn't for the karma. A stream of bright, scalding gases pour from your open mouth, washing over him. He screams in pain and squeezes down his weapon’s trigger, the shot streaking harmlessly by. Layla shrieks behind the dumpster.

Fire roars out over the kid’s chest, tearing hungrily through his jacket. You recoil instinctively, the terrible smell of scorched flesh filling your nose. Must’ve ignited something in his jacket – a lighter, by the smell of things.

Staggering backward, the urge to be away from here filling you, away from that smell and that seething light, you find yourself brought to your knees by a sudden, searing pain in your joints. Your arms burn, bones crackling, and for a moment you assume that somehow it’s the fire, it got you, reached out and took root in your flesh –

Your bones shift. You stifle a scream.

It’s not the fire. Your arms are shifting, flesh warping, distending outward. In the corner of your vision, Layla looks on in muted horror, her hands clasped over her mouth, as your limbs tear through the sleeves of your hoodie, sloughing away the ill-fitting fabric.

You screw your eyes shut. God, you’re folding out of yourself again, you’re uncoiling, unwinding, bursting out of your skin…

Slowly, the pain recedes. You breathe in and out, and realize that you’re still whole.

Your arms feel really really unfeasibly big.

It can atrophy if it goes without use for a long time and enough support is given to have it removed and Crusty gives the change it's blessings.

Basically, if it's obsoleted by other powers in combat and it has no utility out of combat, there's high chance it could atrophy.

>Agility 2

I don't get it. Its not a bad choice or anything. Is the power leap between one and two that big? and why now?

if it was to help wings, level 2 wings would remove the high starting place requirement and increase general flight speed.

I'm not going to call anybody retarded or say they're wrong because its just a difference of opinion. I just want to understand it better.
>>
>>30979930

I'd rather not. We're not going to make another DC18 check.

>>30979944
>and why now?

We need it to dodge stuff, and also it works with Enhanced Senses for higher reflexes.
>>
>>30979910
The thing useful about the power is that it can melt peoples faces. If the murder hobo anons gain more footing then we might use it. But if we keep playing JJ we have been for 50+ threads it will most likely never be used.
>>
>>30979944
Agility 2 is a prerequisite for a lot of extrapolative powers that are desirable, like geointuitive sense that lets us dodge bullets. The more we put into it and our senses the better we get at dodging. Also, activating warp-spasm requires agility 2.
>>
>>30979944
Helps us dodge stuff and move. generally suits our stealth

Also needed for a lot of extrapolatives.
>>
>>30979928

Most of our stuff relies on getting close.
>>
>>30979944
It also makes JJ's reflexes faster. If we had agility lvl 2 before the guy pulled a gun on us we would have been able to just snap it out of his hand.
>>
>>30980002
You were always keeping it. A revote simply wasn't going to happen.

If you basically never opt to use it, though, the power will atrophy and the X-Point will be redeemed.

Hey Crusty I've got some questions:
.The text for INSULATED MESH says it can't be included alongside MAGNETIC MESH CHARGE I'm needing a bit of clarity on that. Does buying one lock out the other or can we buy both, but we'd only be able to have one active at a time? I'm assuming one and done, but better to ask.
.Hey are some of the Extrapolative Mutation that required Sonic Scream going to be changed to require NULL WAVE or Null Shadow?
.Hey if we got Photosynthetic Biology is it going to effect are physical appearance?
.What happened to Henry McCoy? He drowned didn't he?
.How many of Parker's clones are still alive?
.Do the Stepford Cuckoos exist?
.So what was JJ doing when the event that formed the scar occurred?
.Is the Chameleon a mutant in this world or is he a flatline? and does he have a sister named Camellia?

>>
Level one powers that we need to upgrade, in order of importance.

Winged Flight: Being able to take off from the ground. No more needing to climb things.

Claws and Fangs: Can cut through steel. Combined with our strength we could probably dig/tunnel through a wall if we ever get trapped again.

Adhesive touch: No more dice rolls for climbing. Should allow us to “land” on the side of a building after flying. Good for stealth and we can stop wasting karma.

Electrostatic Touch: Should be strong enough to short out the super suits those clones were wearing. Or other electronics we come across.

Sub-dermal Bio-weave: Thinker skin is always good.

>The defense power probably shouldn't be last but I couldn't figure out where to put it.

>>30980177
It's pretty obvious that a few people who chose Draconic Breath don't want it anymore, after realizing the level of difficulty it presents. I'm not revoting because I can't tell how many, but I'm not keeping a power around if it never sees any use.

It requires 3 things to happen.
1. The power proves itself to be obsolete in both in and out of combat over a long evaluation period.
2. Majority vote is required to change the power.
3. Crusty always has veto right. The vote will not happen or come to pass without his say-so.

So just bitching about it won't help at all.

Yea, go fuck yourself. If we found out where those were, why not just tip the fucking police? Better yet, use the earthquake guy from Hellions, he'll shake the building down WITHOUT destroying the evidence.

>Terror weapon against creeper's goons
Here's a couple of problems with this at lvl 1.
1. If you gotta get close to use it, why would you not just use electrostatic touch, or claws/str
2. Does not disable the enemies when it hits
3. Only scares the guy that it actually hits

>rainfall
Waterproof lighters cost like two dollars
>>

It would be better to take them into the invisi-field. That way you have an unconscious meat shield. Only drop the guy when you're going to take out the next

>>30980847
We did it at Mr.Negative's place to guards.
>>
>>30980781
I was merely pointing out that DB is at chest about a foot in diameter and spreads noxious fumes that might put off hunger campers. It is a pure combat power, no finesse, nearly no utility outside of combat. But in combat, at close range? If you aren't fireproof you and any friends near you are dead. Very useful.
>>
>>30980847
I think the "near touch range" is mostly intended to be used with conductive materials, like if some guy is standing next to a cable, we can touch the cable and zap him without direct contact.
>>
>>30980865
DB1 don't do that though.
I mean not unless you keep spraying the guy for a good while.
>>
>>30980865
Well, the thing is that the girl we want to kill is fireproof and we sort of can punch people to death faster without claws than it takes for the firebreath to kill.
>>
>>30980829
>tip the police

and if Creeper got arrested, he'd either immediately go the camps or just get shived while awaiting trial. Muties are second class citizens at best. The government didn't build giant TOLERANCE robots.

>Waterproof lighters cost like two dollars
2 dollars we don't have and its not infinite usage. and that could be stolen or taken from us.

and it would take lv2 to be a more effective terror weapon I'd vote for level 2
>>
>>30980897
It's not like we're going to leave our hands down most powerful combat ability at lv1 for long.
>>
So here's a random thought...

If JJ were to dunk his head into a bathtub of snow-slush and blow bubbles, how long would it take him to turn it into a steamy bath?
>>
>>30980940
We already upgraded super strenght to lvl 2 or are you referring to Electrostatic Touch?
>>
Lets take a look at DB directly from the pastebin

http://pastebin.com/JYrcDPPk

>DRACONIC BREATH
JJ can now breathe fire.

Level 1: JJ may project a stream of heat and unstable gases from his mouth that causes acute physical pain and shock to humans, as well as igniting highly flammable substances.

Level 2: JJ spits fire. He may expel a short-ranged (less than a meter) tongue of blue flame, or ‘lob’ small, arcing packets of similarly ignited particles over greater distances. His breath may cause immediate second degree burns.

Level 3: At this level, JJ may breathe out a long, intense stream of azure fire. It can very quickly cause third degree burns.

Level 4: At this level J may widen the breadth of his draconic breath. He becomes capable of very quickly causing fourth degree burns.

Level 5: JJ will burn you to ash. His breath is more potent than any military grade flamethrower, able to defeat the heat tolerance of all but few substances.

I think it warrants LV2 at least.
>>
>>30980940
We did it to taserhands. And agility.

And a sizable chunk of the playerbase wants DB to atrophy.
>>
>>30980934
One, why would we identify ourself. Just report a shooting at the location then leave.

Two, a butane lighter doesn't smell like ass. Seriously, the smell of brimstone isn't exactly common in nature or cities, so it could give our position away. You know what could also keep a lighter of matches dry? A piece of plastic. Anything from seran wrap to a ziplock bag.

Third the entire point of DB is dealing with multiple opponents forced into close contact. Not utility.
I'm thinking we cap it at lv3 before the next big fight.
>>
>>30980995
Slightly longer than it would take to drown.

You could always just breath on it from the outside.
>>
>>30981040
Taser was never a primary combat ability. That was strength.
>>
>>30981045
If JJ's below standard hygiene doesn't give away his position, I doubt DB would.

>>30981040
>sizable chunk of the playerbase wants DB to atrophy.

gonna need to see an honest to god vote. 2-3 anons that won't shut up isn't a sizable chunk imo.
>>
>>30981000
>I think it warrants LV2 at least.

And DC18 rolls.
>>
>>30981094
We had taserhands before strength came along. It's almost pure takedown ability.
>>
>>30981000
You know, with 2 points we could get:
>Electrostatic touch lvl 2:
>Claws 2:

we just passed our first DB don't freak out test.

only a Nat 1 has bad repercussions. we have better odds of passing it then it going horribly horribly wrong. most likely scenario is rolls between 2-17 and nothing happens.

ideally, JJ trains in safe controlled environment and just try to make little hobo fires in the scar before using it in combat

Um, no. Normal fails counter normal successes.

Claws 2 is just so we can go through walls and shit without having to break our hands.
Basically, if somebody locks us in a room, we can mole our way out.
>>
>>30981309
No.
only Nat ones, otherwise JJ freezes up and does nothing.
>>
>>30981252
...not really. We used strength more, I agree. We spent most of that fight trying and failing to be an action movie hero.
As I recall, we did more actual damage with taserhands.

>>30981309
No. Critfails undo successes. Normal fails just have JJ freeze up.
>>
>>30981350
or just punch out the lock. we get a little durability increase with strength, nothing to write home about though.

also, healing lv3
>>
>>30981287

>>

>>
>>30981385

>>
Do you guys think Enhanced Contortion is worth 1 point or should we get the utility powers before it?

Personally, I'd prefer to bank and go for the Geointuitive vision.
>>
I refuse to level up DB until we can control it without a high DC. Once we get the DC lower we'll know whether or not we want to keep it and can proceed accordingly.
>>
>>30981385
We're near-constantly using healing while we're actively trying not to need it.
Deliberately getting ourself hurt when there's more efficient solutions ends badly. We heal faster than normal. It doesn't mean we're Laura-tier, or even Sabretooth-tier.

>>30981475
Worth getting, but not just yet. There's better choices.
It's a reasonably longish way down the list.

JJ can comfortable do 1.5 tons, 3 tons if he wants to throwout his back. Not too concerned about a locked room scenario.

>>30981475
>Enhanced Contortion is worth 1 point
maybe if we run out of things to buy. its not a bad power, just really really low on the totem pole imo
>>
>>30981539
My personal priority is geointuitive vision, because it actually would give us a proper long ranged attack.
>>
>>30980569
Can be used as a easy way to create thermals for flying, which will speed up ascent speed tremendously.

When we get to level 3 the wings are going to be excellent melee aids.
>>
>>30981475
Honestly I'd rather getting adhesive touch lv2 so we can stop failing critical wall crawls. After that, probably start investing seriously in offensive abilities for a bit, I'd include Geointuitive Vision as an offense/utility.
>>

>Shadow field

This is the power that lets us hit people while invisible, and STAY invisible.

Its also the power that will let us keep the invisibility field up when someone gets a lucky shot in.

Frankly, we need it to make invisibility actually useful in our fights. Our last matches have all had invis fail due to being beaned in the head or gassed.
>>
>>30981252
>ideally, JJ trains in safe controlled environment and just try to make little hobo fires in the scar before using it in combat
That isn't going to happen.

It'd be, dare I say it...

not in-character.
>>
>>30981602
I'd rather focus on defensive abilities for now.
Senses, shadow field, wings, subdermal, more agility. Focus on keeping ourself up rather than taking everyone else down.

I miss the sneaky days, when our first response was 'run, hide, reposition', rather than 'charge'.
>>
>>30981782
JJ wanting to and training get his fire breathing under control outside of his of home in empty rubble yard in the scar where he can't hurt anybody is out of character?
>>
>>30981676
Heat + strength = break through even adamantine eventually.

But frying our own wings is not a cause for concern, we have agility 2 now. Easily move them out of the way.

Not to mention even while were not flying they can still be very useful. Extra limbs are not to be sneezed at.
>>
>>30981782

White Phosporous doesn't do jack shit to adamantium.
Level 5 breath wouldn't do jack shit to adamantium either.

DB is not a cost effective power, in order for us to make it semi-useful, we'd need to sink so much points to it that there's just no point.
>>
If we go full druid JJ, we should see if we can get an extrapolative power to get healing fruits.
>>
>>30981590
JJ isn't a balloon, that's not how it works.
>>
>>30982017
You tool.

Make a fire, open wings, above the flames are thermals because of the heat. Hot air rises.
Other use: in flight breath at an angle to heat the air under wings, generating lift.

>>30981981
Suppose it depends on what movies are canon to crusty, however level 5 breath would, because you have to melt the stuff somehow before you can coat some poor sods bones in it. Level 5 dragon breath will be capable, it might take a while, but it will be capable, its basically instant incineration for most mundane materials as soon as it leaves his mouth.

as opposed to an inyourface concrete good like hurting his enemies in self defense.
>>
>>30982088
Just because hot air goes up, that doesn't mean that the amount of lift generated from it is significant enough to help do anything, unless he's willing to risk burning himself in the process.

Balloon operates on the same principle, but unlike JJ, balloon actually can trap the hot air into a large container.

JJ's flame breath isn't even on a level of the Balloon's flame right now.
>>
>>30982017
Thermals are used by most birds to over a certain size to help stay aloft.

It's still a pretty rubbish idea, I agree, because the gains are too small compared to the difficulty of pulling it off, but your counterargument is flawed at best.

>>30982088
I was under the impression that movieverse!adamantium at least, once set, no longer had a reachable melting point short of frying the planet as collateral damage. Which was why it was so difficult to make use of.

Thermal lifts used by birds occur naturally.
Artificially made ones in the aircraft have very poor gains unless you use something like a balloon.
>>
>>30981980
>Would I prefer JJ entered and left the tunnel invisible and we started scouting new fall back positions soon?
Yes. But mainly I just think setting a bunch of fires in a section of the city that emergency crews can't reach isn't the best idea. I also think that fires attract attention, not just from cops and Creeps, but from our neighbors. It's not the best idea to shit in your neighbor's lawn, they tend to make noise.

Also, he didn't try to train the electric touch, despite the fact that he Electrocuted Laura.

He also didn't show any attempt trying to learn how to use his strenght, despite the fact that he crushed Chat's leg.

No attempt to train his claws, despite the fact that they respond purely to his emotions and might backfire.

I don't think he's going to go voluntarily train his flamebreath.

>>
>>30982423
Actually, invisibility is probably the only power we attempted to train. Remember when we jacked the circuit breaker for Noriko and exhausted it? There were another couple of times where we pushed it, just not to the point of brain damage.

Crushed chat and himself before he even knew he was that strong.

You seem to be coming at this from a logical viewpoint. "I'm afraid of X, I don't want to lose control of X, I should train with X so that doesn't happen."
Problem.
Phobias are not logical. General response to a phobia is "I'm afraid of X. I shall have nothing to do with X whatsoever unless given absolutely no other choice I can live with."

If JJ was particularly dedicated to getting himself and all of his abilities under control, you might get more backing. But he isn't.

>>
>>30982779
>you guys are trying to sabotage DB aren't you?
Nope. I've argued for DB it in the past. Problematic as the power may be, it has its merits and developing it made a great deal of narrative sense. Certainly more than any of the other ranged powers, though truth be told, I'm not especially keen on any of them, regardless of utility.
I'm still not in favour of it atrophying, but I can understand why people would be.

It's called being fair and balanced. Viewing points based on their merits rather than forcing them to fit one narrow idea.

If you'd like people to agree with you, I'd recommend improving your argument rather than resorting to playground taunting.
