"TA-DA!" Patrick yells exuberantly, throwing his arms in the air. He's sitting atop the Panzer IV, evidently having just attached a large red ribbon to the Panzer IV's new KwK 40 L/48 75mm main gun. "Happy Tuesday!" He continues- most of the team had gathered near the Panzer IV for it's unveiling before you, Miho, Yukari and the three girls of Oorai Public Morals Committee- you really need to hurry up and get them a team name.

You are Commander Russells of the M26E1 Pershing Heavy Tank "Black Jack" and as you look over at your captain/girlfriend her eyes glitter at her tank's new armament. It's a significant upgrade- it's old KwK 37 L/24 wasn't really an anti-tank gun so much as a infantry support gun. It was designed to lob high-explosive shells into bunkers, not knock out other armor. "It's..." She turns to you and wraps you in a hug. "It's wonderful!"

SURPRISE BLACKJACK!

I just got 10 kills in my Super Pershing that I named after you, its still a viable tank in my personal opinion. 70% win rate I have in that thing. :3c
>>
>>31007318

Don't even get me started on that... thing that WG dares refer to as a "Super" Pershing.

There is much historically wrong with that "tank" that I'm actually wondering if anyone in Minsk actually saw any of the pictures of it, or just had someone who's never seen a tank before describe it to them in Mandarine Chinese before having it translated through Pashtun, Aramaic and finally Russian. And that was before the 8.8 nerf, which changed it from an underpowered but occasionally fun to play Tier 8 premium into a shit-sandwich of such epic failure that even the developers have said that it's the post underpowered tank, tier for tier, in the game. (Didn't encourage them to do anything to fix it, though- Storm said recently that there are no plans to buff it.)
>>

>Don't even get me started on that... thing that WG dares refer to as a "Super" Pershing.

The best part is where the T15E2 has different penetration stats to the T15E1
>>
>>31007472
>doesn't write a story post
>has plenty of time to write a rant about the Super Pershing
>>
>>31007718

What WG did to that tank was insulting to the tank, embarrassing for themselves, and dismissive of the players, who from the first day of the 8.8 public test were almost universally of the opinion that the "rebalance" was in fact perhaps the biggest nerf to a premium tank since the Lowe. They had no shortage of people saying that the new Super Pershing didn't work, but instead of fixing it or even just delaying the "rebalance" they pushed it out anyway.

About the only thing they did right in the whole ordeal was offer people unfortunate to buy the tank when it was still a worthwhile tank a refund.

"Don't thank me..." You say as she releases her hug. "I just found it- the Automotive Club are the ones who agreed to stay up late to install it." You gesture to the autoclub who were looking smug at this point.

"It was nothing-" Nakajima says, dusting her hands together. "We still need to do some calibration and work on the balance but..." You nod appreciately at her anyway.

"What I'm interested in is where you guys found a giant bow." You say, looking back to Patrick, who smiles broadly. "Anyway, I figure this baby'll have enough power to punch through some proper armor now."

Miho nods. "I'm sure Hana will make good use of it!" She walks along the side of the tank, admiring its new armament. You shoot a look up at Patrick to tell him to get off the damn gun already.

You wander over towards the StuG III. A self-propelled gun mounted on the hull of a Panzer III, the StuG had one of the better guns on the team- the same Kwk 40 75mm that was now installed on the Panzer IV, along with excellent frontal armor.

You hold up a hand, "Hail! Caesar!" You say, being unable to help yourself. The tank's co-commander who styled herself on the Roman Emperor is busy scrubbing mud and dirt from the lower half of the tank's hull- this was actually an incredibly important job on a tank- excess debris could lock up rollers, freeze suspensions and even cause the tank to throw its tracks. Cleaning them out between missions was critical- especially for German tanks.

She stands up and salutes back. "Russells." She says with a nod, "How can Hippo team be of service?"

You lift yourself up onto the side of the tank's track guard above the front drive wheel. "So, two kills in the fight against Saunders?" You nod. "Accounted well of yourselves. Good job." You congratulate her- she smiles politely.

"Thank you. We still got knocked out though." She goes back to cleaning the front drive wheel. "We'll do better next time." She says grimly.

"Caesar- you guys did fine." You reassure her. "Kills are nice, but they don't matter- We won the match and we did that because Hippo and Duck team did their job. How's co-commanding with Erwin?" You ask, as a large clod of dirt comes loose.

"I think we've got it figured out well- Erwin's better with tactics, so she's in charge when the shooting starts." Caesar nods. "She's got almost no organizational skills, though, so I keep things running off the field." She sighs. "Which is why I'm out here CLEANING MUD WITH NO HELP!" She says, increasing her volume to get the attention of Erwin, who's head pops up from the hatch.

"I'm working on important stuff, Caesar!" She says defensively.

You stand up on the StuG's glacis plate and lean across the barrel of the gun onto the low-slung cabin. "What sort of important stuff?" You say, knowing exactly what sort of 'important stuff' Erwin was probably up to- sleeping, eating, listening to music.

She looks down. "I'm... recalibrating the sights!" She says defensively. "Saemonza said that the sights were off!" As she's talking you crawl up onto the top of the cabin and slide open the gunner's hatch.

You slide your head and shoulders down into the space within and look around. "Gun calibration, eh?" You search around before seeing a book- a Japanese translation of Guderian's Achtung - Panzer! and right below it, Belton Cooper's "Death Traps".

A second later you pull your head out, clucking your tongue in disappointment. "Alright, Guderian's a good start, but Cooper? Belton Cooper?" You sigh and shake your head. "I really hope you weren't reading that as research for Saunders..."

Erwin bristles. "You said to read more books about tank warfare, since Rommel-"

"Yeah, Death Traps isn't exactly the best book to read about tank warfare- I mean it's a great read and has a lot of information about logistics. Hell, I think it's one of the better books when it comes to illustrating the human costs of armored warfare." You shake your head. "But the guy was in the rear- he never saw the successes of the Sherman, just the death and failure of them."

Erwin is a bit disappointed, deflating in her hatch. You decide to throw her a bone. "Guderian's good though- stick with him. And maybe Thunder Run- it's a bit late for Saunders but that'll get you a better idea of what the Sherman had going for it."

"So, now that we've uncovered that and hopefully rectified the situation..." You say, bringing yourself up to stand on the StuG's nose. "Anything else I can help with?" You ask, looking down at the Assault Gun's co-commanders.

"Well..." Erwin says, glancing down at Caesar before looking back up at you. "We've been looking into some of the historical modifications..." She ducks down into the hull before bringing up a glossy magazine that featured a long article about various senshado-legal modifications. "That idea of using foliage and camo netting was just the start!"

Caesar climbs up to stand on the other side of the gun with you. "They've got all sorts of stuff here- frontal armor reinforcements, schurzen plates." Erwin flips through the pages. "All of it is historical stuff- either factory modifications or stuff they figured out in the field."

Caesar speaks up. "Hell- they even molded reinforced concrete over the super-structure for extra protection!"

Erwin rolls her eyes. "Crazy Finn's would try anything... Anyway, we wanted to try some of this stuff but we just don't have the materials- do you think you could talk to Anzu about helping us out?"

Caesar nods emphatically. "The StuG is one of our team's best guns- we need to make sure it can stand up to some of the tanks we might be seeing!"

Well, you could take a shot at it. You shrug. "I'll talk to Anzu about it, but no guarentees that we'll get anything out of here."

“Aight niggas” you say to your crew having loaded the shells “lets do this”
“Was that your rousing speech?” Rick asks directing your tank through the staging area and into the rolling downhill slope into the combat zone

As you roll towards the ford you indicate to the little Hamlet “someone is going to be starting over there, don't know who though”

You approach the ford and order your Driver to halt, you step down off the tank to examine the ground. Your boots sink in with a wet squelch, even though you're only a foot from the waterline “oh man, smells like shit” you comment offhandedly
“You wanna churn it up?” Hamish asks, head appearing from his hatch

“Yeah, we're gonna need to delay them a bit while we climb” you clamber back inside the tank "everyone button up"

The engine roars as Hamish guns it into the ford before slamming on the brakes. You can feel the T32 digging into the ground as the bow lurches forward. He quickly throws it into reverse and starts dredging up mud, the water churns and darkens with the silt thrown up. You continue forward, Hamish careful to make every part of the crossing difficult to navigate by leaving deep gouges in the silty riverbed

>[1/?]
>>
>>31013672

“Once that alarm goes,” you tell your Driver over the intercomm “full forward all the way up the hill”

“'Yeap” Hamish replies

“You know” John says “you should consider taking her out somewhere, so she knows it isn't something to do with this place” he motions with a thumb over his shoulder indicating the Club

You decide to be a smartass “you could take her to a cemetery, talk about bones and boners”

“Why would I take her to a Cemetery?”

“Dude” you explain “you don't have a car, you're not taking her anywhere, you don't even live in the same town, so unless you're going to take the train”

“He's got a point” John chimes in “unless Hamish wants to?”

His voice comes in clearly through the intercom “no”

You shrug as John looks back at you “do whatever man, I'm not going to hold your hand”

“Showtime boys” you start dishing out orders “Full forward, load Aye-Pee, elevate the gun I don't want it plowing into the ground when we climb”

You start looking around from the Cupola as the tank starts making its way out of the rockyard, the gravelly path crunching down before you. You take a look behind and note the tank hasn't left a deep imprint in the ground, probably because you're not fully stowed again
“Just be careful Hamish” you say over the intercom “don't hit the extenders against hard shit

“I know” he responds “I got this”

You're deftly manuevered out of the rocks and towards the hill, you feel a slight shudder in the tank causing some alarm “you feel that?”

“Aye” John says

“I felt it, we'll be fine for now” Hamish responds, you can hear an audible sigh over the intercom “looks like we'll have something to do after”

You make quick progress up the hill, punctuated by a gutteral roar from the engine before pittering out

“Valve float?” you ask over the intercom

“Yah, wanna go fast, it's been a while since I pushed it”

“Keep going” you order while craning to see the crossing points, nothing appears to have crossed yet, you can still see the opposite bank through the foliage, no wait, looks like the T-34 is crossing
You're already part way up and your window to take the shot is closing “shit”, you exhale “the Tee-thirty-four is crossing”

“Shit” Rob says quickly trying to traverse the turret

“nah nah nah, they're already out of sight, didn't think I'd be able to see through the leaves” you pause and check the Azimuth “rotate to like two-oh-two and aim for the ridge line, I'm sure something will be up there”

The throb of the power traverse kicks in as Rob brings the turret around, you keep track of the crest ahead

As you approach you order Hamish to a crawl so you can take a look from a turret down position

You pop out craning to see. As the crest approaches you get a look over

“Well that's something” you say while still advancing “okay, here's what we're gonna do”

You lower yourself back into the turret “here's what we're doing” you say take a breath “here's what we're doing, the Sherman is on the otherside, so we're going to take them before the Lee and Tee-thirty-four get here, John get another round ready I dunno where the Lee is but they'll be around”

“Okay” he says hefting the two pieces ready to go

“Pick up speed a little” you order while looking through the rear vision blocks, checking to see if there was anything coming up behind you

“I see them, Em-four” Rob calls over the intercom, the power traverse works as he brings it around to what you guess is the Sherman “On tar-”

CLANG

“get” Rob finishes, having been cut off by a shell bouncing off the gunshield

“Fire whenever”

“Nope” Rob replies “they've backed down the otherside, go forward a little bit”

You crawl forward steadily coming upon the crest and then over
“On target” Rob says

“Take them” you order lookinga head through the vision blocks in your station “they're not getting away this time”

CLANG

CLANG CLANG

“Found it” Rob says a second later bringing the gun on target

You rock back again. You can't see if Rob hit the Lee because your forward vision block is fucked, but you assume he did, he usually doesn't miss

“YEAAAAAAAH” you shout with excitement, blood pumping hard as rock “that's what I'm talking about”

You check your shoulders and then your rear for the T-34, it hasn't appeared behind you, so that's good news. Might be on the reverse of the hill, though doubtful otherwise they would have pounced while you were preoccupied
“Where to now?” Hamish asks, as he lets the engine idle

“Driver, about face” you order “we'll get them in a head-on fight”

Seconds later you're facing the way you had come up, crawling back to the crest
“Cut the engines, open hatches”

The engine burbles out of life. All you hear is the chirping of birds and bugs far off in the distance, not the Diesel chug you're looking for
“They're waiting” you commend them “I'd do the same thing”

“You did do the same thing” John says “like all the time”

“You know what I could do with right now” you say not bothering to confirm or deny just changing the subject “a Cornetto”

“Oh yeah”

“That would be nice”

“Okay” you say explaining your plan “here's what we're going to do, I don't know where they're hiding because they've turned their engine off, I can only assume they've managed to get across the river”

“Took them a while” Hamish comments

“Yeah, so we're going to go back down the slope and try follow their trail, and not get turned into soup”

Hamish coaxes is the engine to life, it responds with a hearty growl and propels the tank forward
“No the other way” you clarify

“What the side we killed the tanks on?” your Driver asks

“Yeah”

“What a waste”

“There's the crossing” you say poking out of the Cupola “can't really see the tracks from this low though”
A faint drone is heard in the stillness of the morning air. You continue along the shore, keeping an ear out for that sound.
It's definitely moving

“Halt, cut the engines” you order quickly

There, much clearer. You listen to the Diesel engine of the T-34 making its way up the hill
“You guys hear that?” you ask

“Yeah” John opens his hatch “sounds like it's coming from somewhere along the hill”

The noise cuts out. They're trying to manuever around you by listening for your engine noise

Smart

“You know” Rob says having come up with an idea “what if we did that play we used in Knoxville”

“That was the one where we-”

“Can't do that one” you cut them off “told Bert I wouldn't mess up this place”

“Why'd you promise you wouldn't blow the place up?” Rob questions

“Pretty sure him and Rick's son know what we've done, pretty nice of them to not kick us out”

You order Hamish to go up the hill again, this time from the side closest to the stream, again you feel a slight shudder in the tank, but Hamish's confidence is reassuring

Part way up the hill you tell your Driver to increase revs for a few more feet
“Okay, cut the engine and coast back down the hill”

Hamish follows your orders to the letter, the engine fizzles out and you beign slipping back down

>[8/?]
>>

“Slow down a little” you order, having come down the hill in a relatively straight line

“Just tell me when to stop” Hamish responds, you realise he can't see behind and was relying on you

You reach the base of the hill with enough momentum to travel a few more feet

“Brake a little bit”

The tank eases to a trot, as it approaches the bank in reverse

You can feel the tanks centre of gravity shift as it tips into the stream, and comes to a halt in the wet mud

The gun barrel is flush with the ground. Pretty perfect, hopefully they don't notice the tracks lead straight to the stream

“Eveyone shut up, I think I can hear them coming”

“Hey it's like a surprise party”

“Shut up”

“Okay, elevate it like five degrees when they come along, don't want them to see a barrel sticking from the ground, John get another one ready just incase”

“Roger” he affirms by hefting another shell from the ready rack

You listen out for the thrum of the Diesel powered T-34

It's not long before you hear it approach, coming from your right, around where you started earlier

The engine cuts out for a minute. They're trying to listen out for your tank

“Traverse right slightly, we'll try hit them as they come down along the stream, I think they'll figure out the tracks lead nowhere once they get sight of the path we took”

You catch sight of the T-34 making its way along the shore, only a couple feet from the edge “Here we go”

It stops intermittently to listen out. It's not going to hear anything

You close your hatch softly, careful to dull the metal on metal contact. You'll be relying on sight through the fucked vision blocks for now

“Contact right one-hundred feet, wait for them to come into your line before firing”

“Right, okay”

>[10/?]
>>
>>31013945

“They're taking their sweet time” you say looking through the vision blocks “they probably think it's a trap”

“It is a trap” John corrects you

“Well they don't know where” you correct him back

“Okay here we go, they're moving forward”

As they get closer you note the tracks and wheels are still caked with mud. Actually they're closing with surprising speed, as their getting a bit of track slap
“Elevate the gun, quickly, they'll overshoot us”

Rob starts working the Manual Elevation like a madman

“Not going to make it” you say “just take the shot and try hit something

The T-34 rockets towards you, it must be trying to take you by surprise on the hill

Rob fires

>[11/?]

You watch as the drive sprocket disintegrates loosing the track in what can only be described as a train wreck, but with tanks. The track breaks loose, the tanks momentum carries it forward before the left roadwheels dig into the ground and veer the tank towards you

“Oh shit” Rob shouts over the intercom watching the carnage unfold

John quickly loads the shell into the breech before returning to his station to look through the Periscope “hoowee, that looks close”

You can't see shit because of the busted vision block, you assume the tank is right in front of you as there's some kind of discolored obstruction ahead
“Fire again if it's not out”

“I'm not sure that's safe” Rob says “they're basically point blank”

“No it'll be fine, they've got that Carbon stuff in their tanks” you counter

“It's kind of dick” John says

“It won't be that bad, we put 36 rounds into that Tiger-two”

“They came out with a concussion” Hamish adds “and their tank was pretty fucked”

“Okay” you throw your hands up “I'll do...something”

You pop your hatch open to address the other tank “you guys wanna surrender?”

The gun traverses on to you

“I guess not”

>[12/?]
>>
>>31013979

You toggle the intercom “light 'em up”

With a thunderous crack roils of fire billow out of the muzzle, the break kicks up whatever dust is available atop the damp soil obscuring your view

What's left is a streak of blackened earth and flattened grass leading to a badly mangled Glacis, a little white flag waves from the turret

WHEEEEEEEEER

You toggle your mic “take us home”

“That's not going to happen” Hamish replies “the bank is too high, the mud is too soft, and we're not reversing out of here either”

“I guess we'll wait for the recovery vehicle” you hear John say while attempting to lean back

>[13/?]
>>
>>31013984

You get out of the Cupola and sit on the trackguards, dangling your legs over the side “how're you guys doing?” you shout over to the T-34 trying to be friendly

The Driver's hatch opens, Kate leans out “what's that?”

“How're you doing?” you shout back over

“Well we lost”

You play dumb and give a half hearted thumbs up “so you're good”

“As good as we can be”

“Can I kick it” Hamish exits through his hatch “yo, this thing is pretty messed up”

You look back at the Hamish and see him crouching infront of the mantlet, tracing his finger along something

You move to join him in the xamination of whatever “nah, it'll last a few more matches” you say looking at the pock marked gunshield. You examine the damage more closely identifying the 37 and 75 hits from the flaking paint and varying divots “yeah, it'll be good for now”

“You want some Big Red?”

“YEAH” John scrambles out of his own hatch “this shit is the bomb, except when you eat too much and get diarrhea”

You cough out of surprise at that comment

“Did you guys have trouble getting across the ford?” you look over to the T-34 to see Kate motioning with her thumb in the general direction of the crossing

You know what she's asking about “nope, it was pretty breezy”

She turns back to talk to someone in the turret

Hamish hands you a stick of Big Red. Tastes exactly how you remember it, along with the tingling sensation on your tongue

Rob sticks his head out of the Loader's hatch “Ashley thinks you ruined the ford”

You shrug

A chug is heard in the distance

“Guess that's the Recovery vehicle”

>Crazy Finns would try anything
I can confirm that this indeed is the case.
Yes, that used to be a BT-2
>>
>>31014578
With a Howtizer from WW1 in the turret, no less.
>>
>>31014578
You sure it's a modified BT-2? Thought all the BT-42 were based on BT-7...

Still. Finns and their crazy inventions. Hell, the guys mass produced Molotov cocktails (and came up with the name), since they didn't have all that many anti-tank grenades. They also used logs for similar purposes... and made it work!
>>
>>31014645
They had a mix of captured BT-2s, -5s and -7s that were used to create the few BT-42s they had. So, It's probably got BT-2 bits in it.
