Silk vanishes into the fog of the swamp, much to the relief of your men. You are left alone with them, huddled around you as if you were some sort of lucky charm against the Wyld's influence.

"...Can we trust her, boss?"
"What do we do now?"
"Can you make sense of those directions?"
"Are we going to follow them?"

You breathe deeply, clear your mind, and try thinking.

You're pretty sure that the oath Silk agreed to leaves her no obvious way to harm you or others, but it comes with its own problems: you are supposed to protect her from your own allies to the best of your abilities.

Of course, since she's travelling on her own and you're somewhere entirely else, that means you don't have a lot you can do to cover for her. You assume she meant that part of the deal in case things happen while you're present.

You can't exactly help her while she's not around, can she? She's probably fleeing the swamp right now. You guess.

You look at the trail blazed by Tia, mostly by cutting the spiny, skeletal trees of the swamp in two.

Silk said that following it, you'd end at her "freehold", whatever that is. You imagine a fortress or something. And that apparently Tia is currently wrecking it. Girl's getting busy.

From there, she explained to you how to reach the fortress of this Tarien Dorian, the Prince of the Swamp. Apparently it involves following a red road and reaching a "Starleaf Tree", which has a "guardian".

You miss Creation already, and you're barely into the Wyld's Bordermarches.

>Who are we?
Maka, an exiled noble recently Exalted as a Zenith-caste Solar. She's in the western city of Tianna as a guest of queen Amata (DB), an old friend. Abyssals are targeting the city for conquest, Lintha pirates have infiltrated it with spies and agents, and half the island is controlled by paranoid Lunars. Fun times.
After a rather rough day of dealing with a particularly tricky fae, Tia left your side to go and trash the Wyld zone you're trying to clean up, on her own. Following her trail, you've stumbled into Silk, a fleeing fae who agreed to not harm anyone as long as you do the same, and defend her in case one of your allies decides to hurt her. She also gave you directions for Tia and for her (former, it seems) boss.

>Solar? Zenith? I don't know Exalted...
This quest is as newbie-friendly as possible, and I want it to work as a newbie's intro to Exalted. If you have ANY question, ask in thread. For the setting, google "1d4chan exalted".

>Archive?
http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=zenith

>System?
Dicepool-like system. When performing an action, everyone rolls 1d10 when posting. the first X rolls are considered, where X is equal to attribute + ability. Yes, this means that the more people are posting, the stronger Maka is, up to a limit of her attribute + ability.

>XP?
Attributes cost [current score x5] xp. Abilities cost [current score x3] xp, except Zenith costing [(current score x3) -1]. Charms cost 10 xp, except for Zenith-based charms (related to charisma and physical/mental fortitude) which cost 8 xp. At the end of every "session" (thread) you will be presented with a list of possible acquisitions.

>a fleeing fae who agreed to not harm anyone as long as you do the same
Not strictly true, and details matter with the fae, so reposting what we swore from last thread.

What we swore, verbatim:
>You sigh tiredly. "...And I swear that I will defend you from my allies, like we agreed, as long as your side of the oath is kept."
The "defend you" gives us some leeway to only defend her personage, the "like we agreed" bit refers to:
>"I and my associates will not harm you and your associates, and you and your associates will not harm me and my associates, as long as I remain in this swamp and for five days after I've left. When I leave, I will spend those five days entirely travelling away from this island to the best of my abilities, and will never return afterwards."
Question in my mind is what defines 'associates' to her and us?

Posting this as a reminder for those who can't remember or don't want to search the archives.

Also, a request of my fellow anons, keep discussions that are not relevant to the quest and thread where it is at, for after the thread is concluded, you can debate all you like after that.
>>
>>31034599
None's of it's binding.

Creation can't see into the Wyld, so the fae is just assuming that: A) Maka is a stupid wench (not untrue) B) that's she retardedly honest/honorable (also not totally untrue)

But, of course, as far as Maka knows it's binding for a thousand lifetimes.
>>
Wow, no wonder I'm never here for these threads.

Follow Tia's trail quickly. Who knows what mischief she might get herself into alone.
>>
>>31034610
>But, of course, as far as Maka knows it's binding for a thousand lifetimes.

Maka has IPP up, she knows she's not magically bound to anything. On her part, the oath is upheld only by her own honor (and the fact that, if you break it, Silk is no longer bound by the same oath).

>>31034599
>Question in my mind is what defines 'associates' to her and us?
Your associates would be the people associated to you: the pirates, Samiel, and the Three Rivers.
Her associates, since she's parting ways with Tarien Dorian, would be just the hobgoblin serving her.
>>
>>31034654
It wouldn't be a shaping effect though, wouldn't it? Although I guess the other option is Fate/Destiny effect and the whole >out of creation thing ruins that.

You can't IPP away an Eclipse or Moonshadow oath, for instance.

Unless you can, and I've forgotten.
>>
>>31034670
>You can't IPP away an Eclipse or Moonshadow oath, for instance.

You can't, but an eclipse oath is always obvious.

In general fair folk in the Wyld work with shaping. Maka didn't feel any shaping happen and didn't feel anything obviously oath-like happening to her, so she knows that there's no fair folk magic binding her.

Of course the oath could have been woven in the wyld itself and if she breaks it it summons fifty billion godzillas. that wouldn't be shaping so it wouldn't count and she wouldn't know.

All Maka knows is that she wasn't affected by any effect when the oath was made.

"...We're following this track. Move about carefully. Stay close. Don't touch anything suspicious." You say your men.

"What if everything looks suspicious?" One of them asks.

"Then don't touch anything." You simply reply, following the trail.

As you move through the swamp, you find the terrain becoming damper and wetter as you cover more ground, the soggy marsh giving way to a sort of shallow lake or sea, where you and your men have to wade through with water reaching up to your knees.

Despite this, the terrain under your feet is solid, almost rocky, and you don't have the sinking feeling you had up to now with every step.

Despite slowing down your progress, this cheers up you and your men because it means quicksands are less likely. The water is also unusually clean all around you.

The fog quickly parts, and the trees and reeds slowly vanish, which means that you lose the track you were following. It's not like you can count on any footprints here anyway, so your only choice is to move forward and hope you don't lose your bearings.

Fortunately, the improved visibility lets you spot a palace rising from the water in the distance.

It seems quite damaged, with part of the structure crumbled in a pile of debris, the walls shattered and broken here and there. It also has a distinctively "abandoned" feel.

It seems the destruction is still going on: you hear the noise of combat from within, with the clash of arms, screams, and the roar of masonry exploding and crumbling.

You lead your men to the floating palace. Which is not really floating, to be honest, because you notice the water getting more and more shallow as you approach. It's rather solidly built,

The water swirls and flows rather fast around your legs as you get closer, and you notice a variety of colorful and bizarre lifeforms in the water. Fishes made from living mother-of-pearl, or cut from the finest colored silk, crabs made from folded paper origami stalking sand seahorses... the list could go on and on.

There are also corpses scattered around (often quite literally), half-melted lizardmen with colorful scales, in the process of slowly vanishing back into the wyldstuff.

"Someone got busy here." Your men comment as you walk into the palace. It must have been a beautiful, luxurious dwelling, but now it's completely wrecked.

Even inside the palace, a few centimeters of water cover evenly the entire floor, with small wyld-warped creatures living in the shallow water. They're even thicker here, and for a moment you're a bit worried that you might be crushing them with every step, before you realize that they're apparently all skilled or fast or smart enough to move out of your way just enough to avoid your footsteps.

"Oh, my, my." You suddenly hear a known voice from just behind you. "She really trashed my home."

You and your men turn around, aghast, to see the head of Silk sprouting from the water. "YOU? Weren't you going to leave?!"

"I was about to... but then I got scared. I'm worried that I'll stumble into some bad people who will want to hurt me." She whimpers doing her best to look shy and worried and cute. "And so I need a big, strong woman who will protect me."

"...You..." You lift your fist, and she cowers.

"Nooo~~ Please don't hurt me~~~ I didn't do anything bad~~~"

"You should get lost." You threaten her. "If Tia finds you, I'm not sure I could stop her from stomping you flat."

"It's okay!" She smiles. "I trust you."

That's when a wall explodes as a lizardman is thrown through it.

It slams on another wall in front of you, a few meters ahead of you. Despite it being WAY dead, he's immediately followed by a large bit of masonry being thrown onto him from outside of your field of view, turning it into a very, very, very thin paste.

From the hole emerges Tia, breathing heavily. She's covered in small cuts and scrapes and blood, and her dress is all damaged and ruined.

"...Maka?" She looks at you, surprised.

"Uh. Hi, Tia."

She stomps up to you angrily. "WHAT ARE YOU DOING YOU SHOULD STAY IN BED AND REST YOU'RE STILL WOUNDED LEAVE THIS TO ME EVERYTHING IS UNDER CONTROL." She says in a single breath before catching air. She seems extremely worried, and looks at your wounds that haven't healed yet. "...Your new outfit is nice by the way, but, really. You did your part, now go back to the Bloodshark!"

She doesn't seem to have noticed Silk, or probably the fae hid back in the water.

I will confess: I'm slightly ass-ravaged that this stupid deal was made in the first place.
It seems even stupider to bother to follow an agreement that the fae seems clearly intent to attempt to leverage to fuck with us.
>>
"...Thank you, Tia. It's all right. I was just... worried about you." You explain.

"Uh?" She asks.

"Well..." You roll your eyes. "I was scared that you were doing something stupid."

"Nah. See? I'm all fine!" She says, opening her arms. She IS wounded, although they don't look like particularly serious wounds. But she's also obviously tired and, judging by the glow lingering about her, burned a lot of Essence.

"...It's good to see that, Tia, but I'm thinking you should come back to the Bloodshark too. Let's take a break together, okay?" You invite her with a wink.

"...That's unfair. If you ask me like that, I won't be able to say no." She droops her shoulders.

"Oh, come on." Silk pops up from the water, next to both of you. "I even gave you directions to Tarien Dorian's castle. Aren't you going to go there?"

Tia looks at her. Then she looks at you. Then she looks back at her.

"HERE YOU ARE YOU DAMN-" And she tries to grab the slippery, shapeless Fae, who winces back in fear.

"NO WAIT WAIT I'M NOT HERE TO FIGHT I SURRENDER DON'T HURT ME PLEASE MAKA GUARANTEES FOR ME"

Tia stops, her hands deeply embedded inside the fae's semiliquid, transparent body, and turns again to you, silently asking you what you intend to do.

>"I didn't mean to... I didn't mean to..."

>Her mutterings slowly become whispers, and then simple breathing, as she cries herself to sleep.

In which it is Questionable if Tia is even listening to us at that point. Rambling herself to sleep repeating the same phrase is indicative of borderline catatonia and trauma-induced stupor and does not guarantee that she even heard what Maka said there, let alone was capable of processing it in a reasonable manner.

She *may* have heard us, but given her apparent mental and physical state at the time it is highly questionable.

You briefly explain to Tia the circumstances behind Silk and her oath. All the while you're explaining, she's not letting go of her (though you suspect that it's just Silk playing along... her body looks like it could break free of her "grasp" with minimal effort).

"We just had to deal with one of your pals who made me really, really, really mad." She then explains succinctly, shaking Silk a bit.

"M-M-M-M-Maka told me." She stammers.

"So explain to me why I shouldn't kill you."

She makes a really forced smile. "...Because Maka would feel really bad about it?"

You shake your head. She shakes Silk in response.

"B-because... because I am actually trying to help you take down Tarien Dorian and you have no reason to believe otherwise?"

Shake shake shake.

"B-b-because... uh... because I just want to survive this whole mess happening right now and have no intention to get in trouble?"

"I think we're getting closer to the truth." She grins, shaking her more vigorously. Bits of her transparent matter start flying around.

"I-I-I've always been telling the truth!"

"Give me a better truth then." Tia replies, continuing with the shaking and stirring.

"I'm also interested in hearing what your real intentions are, actually. How about you tell us, Silk?" You grin.

"B-b-but you promised that you'd keep her from hurting me!"

"She's not hurting you, is she?"

"A-a-a bit, yes! The blob-like fae complains.

"Oh, nonsense. She's just being playful. Come on, man up." You slap her head, producing a wet sound.

Evidently glad that she has your approval, Tia gleefully shakes her some more.

"A-A-AALRIGHT ALRIGHT." She flows out of Tia's hands (leaving her a bit surprised) and grows back into her original shape, apparently drawing mass from the water around her to repair the damage caused by the bits that your Lunar Mate has just shaken out of her. "I'll explain."

"And it better be the truth." You reply, surly.

"I SUPER swear it's the truth." She puts one hand inside her chest and lifts the other one.

"Hurry up." Tia urges her. "I have a busy schedule of killing fae and playing nurse to Maka, I don't have time to waste."

"Alright, the..." She does a double-take. "...Alright, the main gist of it is that... well, let's say you kick out all of the fae and especially the prince out of here. What next?"

"We reclaim the Wyld to Creation." You reply.

"But you know you can't claim all of it. The deepest part of Wyld will stay. Even if you landscape the area all around it, it will survive for hundreds of years, maybe thousands, before you can whittle it down to nothing." She smiles. "Unless you blast it with some really powerful artifacts or sorceries, I guess, but if you had those you would've already used them."

(cont.)
>>
"We could use them later, once we acquire them." Tia notes.

"You could. But, you know that even for you Creation-dwellers the Wyld, with its infinite potential, can be very useful to have." She nods, sliding a bit back into the water, up to the waist. "But Wyld left to its own, without someone with the power to shape it to its will, can be dangerous for the nearby Creation-dwellers."

You point at the fae. "...Alright, I get what your game is. You want us to leave you in power of whatever Wyld's left once we dethrone Tarien Dorian."

She nods. "I'm not going to raid Creation for mortals, and will keep the Wyld in check so that it doesn't threaten your lands, but in exchange you put me in charge, allow me to feed on ambient emotions and arrange it so that I can do it easily and harmlessly. You protect me against people who want to hurt me, both your own and other Fae, and I can use the Wyld to your advantage."

"Why should we trust you? And don't give me another oath. Give me a real reason." Tia grabs her head, fingers sinking softly inside her substance.

"Because I'm not ambitious or tricky. I Just want my little realm, safety, a guaranteed livelihood, and to satisfy my curiosity by living near you Creation people. I want to spend a few centuries in safety, isolated from the other Raksha. A bit of me time. I'm sure it can be a mutually beneficial relationship!" As she says this, her shape slowly shifts into a less threatening-looking one. "I'm ready to change. See?"

>>
>>31036252

We'd control...most of her. Graces are a big deal. It's not just a measure of trust. It allows you to define who they are on the most basic level.

Having a Fae's grace basically gives you an irresistible mind-rape on the thing. They are just limited in scope of mind-rape, save the heart's grace.

That depends a lot on ST interpretation. Fae play roles usually. Its totally legit to have a fae playing the loyal knight.
>>
Rolled 9

>>31036304
contrary to popular belief, Fae are different from one another. Silk seems more open to negotiation and mutual satisfaction, probably making her a Diplomat/Worker, while Garnet acted more like an Entertainer/Warrior, making him extremely untrustworthy and volatile even compared to other Fae

"Right, right, of course." She smiles. "You have to agree with the others, right? Well, then, let's go."

You blink. "...Go where?"

"Well, weren't you going back to your ship? To rest your wounds and have sexytimes with your Lunar and to talk with the others about my offer? I'm coming too!"

"I'm pretty sure Talon is just going to kill you." You state.

"Well, you're going to help me out if he does, aren't you?" She winks.

"Honestly I kind of hope that he's going to be way too fast for me to do anything about it."

"But then you'd have to deal with an uncontrolled patch of Wyld for who knows how many years. Not to mention all the monsters it will spawn, or all the other Raksha who will want to take control of it. People who will be a lot less peaceful or lazy than I am, mind you." She smiles softly. "Look, I realize that you've had a bad experience with Garnet and it burned you out on dealing with my kind, but we're not all like him."

"Prove it." you reply.

"Give me a chance to prove it."

You're about to reply when she interrupts you: "Oh! Oh! I'm good at sculpture, if this counts!" She shifts her shape, moving around her mass and making her surface a lot smoother and more defined. As she slithers to your side, you see her focus in a much more refined and aesthetically pleasing shape.

She only keeps it for a few seconds though, before returning to "normal". "How was that? I'm a bit tired, so I can't really do it for a lot. Maybe I can give you a full performance some other day~"

"...What does "binding Garnet's Graces" mean, then?" You reply.

"Mhhh. Probably kinky bondage stuff? I think Garnet was into that. Or maybe it means the prince "bound" him in sort of a "you are my slave now, bwahaha", way? I never paid a lot of attention during court meetings."

She's a Noble, so she was a member of two castes. Gossamer production makes sense, and would mark her as being a Worker (Temperence). She just mentioned being in courts, so she is also probably a Diplomat (Conviction).

You turn to Tia. "What's on your mind?"

"Nurse-and-patient roleplay."

"...I meant about Silk."

"...You want her to play the nurse, or the patient?"

"...Come on, Tia. Stay focused."

"Oh! You meant about the Wyld zone!" She finally realizes.

You take a loong breath.

"Well, It's true that an unattended Wyld zone can be dangerous, and it's true that having the loyalty of a Fae would be very useful."

"Can we trust her?" You ask the all-important question.

"I don't know." She admits. "Maybe. I'd say we have to make it so that it's in her best interests to be loyal to us."

"Mh. How are we going to do that?"

"We could beat her up." She suggests.

"Isn't that going to make her like us LESS, rather than more?" You point out.

She thinks about it. "We could fuck her into submission."

"...Anything other than sex and violence?" You ask.

"Aren't those our specialties?" She asks back.

She kind of has a point.

"Once we get to the ship, we put her in iron chains. Then we deal with her more calmly."

"Bot you still think we should leave her the benefit of the doubt? Despite what happened with Garnet?" You wonder, a bit surprised that Tia is not completely berserk about killing her.

"...Well, yesterday you got mad at me because I killed Garnet without first listening to you."

"That's-" not a good memory for you.

"But you were right. I shouldn't have. And, Silk has basically surrendered to us. She might end up being an useful ally if we handle her correctly. And, she's right about one thing at least."

"What?" You ask.

"She's not Garnet. They're from the same race, but separate beings." She makes a poignant pause. "...There are some bad Lunars, Maka. Fortunately you never met them. But I wouldn't want to be judged because i share the same nature with them. Likewise, there are bad Solars. In the past, there have been a lot- A LOT of bad Solars. But I won't judge you, or others, because of them, even if you have the same nature. So... I won't judge Silk yet."

Finally, you reach the Bloodshark. The island of stable Creation around it is a lot wider now, and you see groups of armed-and-armored pirates walking around the perimeter, hammering iron nails into trees or into the soil, tracing right lines intersecting at sharp angles on the ground, and loudly giving names to trees, rocks, even single plants. Most of the names you hear are corny and not really creative, which makes you suspect they're running out of them quickly.

Your group, overjoyed at having navigated through the Wyld without anything TOO horrible happening to them, thank you profusely for your protection (even though you didn't do much) and rejoin the crew. Samiel drops down from the upper deck and comes to meet you.

"Got another prisoner?" He asks, eyeing Silk.

"Yep!" She replies, surprisingly chipper.

"Will she behave this time?" He asks you, rather darkly.

"Yep!" She replies in your place.

Tia plants her hand on her mouth and sinks it halfway inside her face. "Shut up a second, you. Samiel, can you be a dear and bring out the iron chains."

"Sure. Good call." He replies, heading back to the ship. "There's Talon and Zaan in the captain's cabin preparing the next offensive. Everyone was waiting you."

"...Is this really necessary?" Silk asks, as Samiel wraps the iron chain around her neck. Where the metal touches her blob-like flesh, you see it becoming opaque rather than transparent, and quite hard rather than yielding. The treatment seems to be painful for her.

"If we don't do this, you might be destroyed immediately. This is so we can trust that you won't do anything stupid."

"...As long as it's temporary. I... really don't like this. You'll remove it right away, right?"

You dodge her question as Samiel puts a lock on the chain and hands you the other end.

"My Maka has a Fair Folk on a leash." is Tia's comment. She sounds inordinately proud of that.

"...Let's go now." You give a light tug to the chain, producing a pained, distressed moan from your Fair Folk on a leash.

You climb onto the ship and down into the quarters, where your captains, a few barbarian chiefs, Talon, Zaan, Flow, Yaraon and Dancing Smoke are crowding the narrow space, all sitting around a small table, or standing around it. There's a rough map with the few landmarks of the Wyld badly scrawled on.

"...Maka. Tia." Talon lifts the eyes from the map, as the ongoing discussion suddenly stops. "And a prisoner. You must be Silk, right? I heard about you."

"I hope it was good things." She says, her voice hoarse and screechy from the iron wrapped around her throat.

"Silk here..." and you give another gentle tug to the chain, "...provided us with directions for Tarien Dorian's castle." You point at the map, the location marked as "Fortress on the Water", and start explaining: "From here, there's a red road. Following it, you'd reach a starleaf tree..."

"THE Starleaf Tree." Points out Silk.

"...Which has some sort of guardian creature. From there, there's a path to his castle."

While you explain, Zaan draws your directions on the map. "Good. This gives us a way to plan our next move." He eyes Silk. "...If it's true."

"It is!" She replies, almost sounding offended. "Can you take this horrible chain off me now?"

"What did I miss while I was away?" You wonder, ignoring the fae's plight.

"You want the long version?" Talon grins.

"Come on~" She protests.

"Not much, anyway." He laughs. "By my reckoning Silk is the last noble left in the swamp, apart for Tarien Dorian, who is probably still fortified in his castle. He's alone, but probably commands an impressive army of hobgoblins and various Behemoths."

"Yes and yes." Silk croaks. "About five thousand hobgoblins. I'd say at least one Behemoth, but I don't know anything specific."

"Aren't you helpful." Yaraon seems to be in a really bad mood (as opposed to Dancing Smoke, who is sitting right next to him). "What are you getting out of betraying your old boss?"

You and Silk both start taking simultaneously, interrupting each other.

You stop for a moment, looking at each other.

Then you both turn to Talon, and talk over each other again.

"...Alright, we need a referee ." He points at her. "You, shut up."

She whimpers and sniffs as you calmly explain the whole issue.

By the end of your explanation, most of the table is chattering among themselves. Seems like this proposal has been fairly surprising for them.

"We should probably vote about this." Talon frowns. "But it's not something I really enjoy discussing. I don't like dealing with your kind."

"Aww..." Silk sighs.

"Proposal." Zaan raises a hand to draw attention. "Rather than voting, since Maka brought Silk here and we all trust her here, let's leave the decision to her, if she is willing to take responsibility."

"That means that only Maka will benefit from my services." Silk suggests, gently tugging on the chain.

"I'm not interested in your 'services'." Talon states, slamming a hand on the table. In general the people around it express agreement with him, except for Tia, who just looks at you.

"Sure." He nods. "And since it seems Yaraon will be your neighbor, so he can help a bit too."

Yaraon makes an "ugh" noise in reply. "Alright."

As he gets up to approach her, Dancing Smoke playfully slaps his ass. He does his best to ignore her.

"Well, I and Samiel will go out to try and carve a stable path to this fae prince's palace." Talon stands up as well, wading through the overcrowded room towards the exit. "We're leaving this thing to you. Once you're set here, come meet us.

"Actually, I and Maka are still wounded and we wanted to... rest." Tia has a slight hesitation on the last word.

"...Alright, I guess. We'll just scout a bit and hope we get back our full strength before this prince character goes back on the offensive."

You, Tia, Yaraon and Zaan relocate to the cargo hold with Silk, working out together an oath to make her swear to.
Zaan suggests making it temporary until Mikahil returns to Tianna to make it permanent (since Zaan knows that he has some sort of oath-related power).

EF, your dice rules suck fucking ass, and your cherry picking of them sucks even more.

After a few hours in which, probably thanks to the iron chain, Silk has been collaborative and not tricky at all, in no way trying to subtly manipulate you to get the best possible terms for your oath, you get the following:

- Silk will be the absolute ruler of the Black Marsh Wyld. She reserves the right to reshape it in any way she wants as long as this doesn't affect Creation. Its borders can't be changed, neither expanding it nor making it smaller, by either of you, as long as she rules it.

- Official visits inside the Wyld, authorized by you (having the visitors carry a specific symbol or token you'll agree on) are not to be harmed and to be treated with the utmost respect. (Anyone else is fair game. She can't actively try to trick and lure people inside, however.)

-Likewise, her official visits to Creation are to be treated with the utmost respect (by you and your people, at least).

-She is forbidden from hunting and devouring the souls of humans, and from hurting her in any way, even in self-defense, but she is allowed to sustain herself by feeding off ambient emotions. She is allowed to have a harem of humans to that end, but not as slaves. They have to be volunteers and to be treated humanely according to your standards.

-You will do your best to protect and defend her from outside enemies, including other Fair Folk seeking to invade her realm.

-She will provide you with materials crafted from Gossamer at your request, up to one fourth of her owned reserves, crafted by her to fit your needs.

-She has to accept and submit to any physical binding you or Tia inflict on her.

-This deal applies to both yourselves and your respective followers.

-This deal lasts until you can meet with Mikahil, at which points it can be confirmed or renegotiated, and voids the previous oath you had with her.

>>31038045
Yeah, but then people get super butthurt about which specific sets of dice he's using to compose Maka's dicepools.

At least judging by this thread.
>>
>>31038045
No, he really should for exactly this reason.
>>
>>31038029
this is what I've been saying all along, because when he does not explicitly call for them, people don't think they are required and don't roll, and we end up with less rolls and with his fucktarded system, this ends up crippling us for no goddamn reason.

Fucks sake EF, you even say it yourself
>Yes, this means that the more people are posting, the stronger Maka is

Even if you ask for people to roll constantly, if they don't know what they are rolling for, or you don't call for rolls for a specific action, they won't, /tg/ is very distrustful of the dice, fuck me you should know this shit already.

This shit lies solely at EF's feet.
>>
>>31038045
except we don't roll pretty much every post, as we had 12 votes, and less than 5 rolls within the first 6 votes...
>>
Well, I'll be gone for the next hour or so. Hopefully by the time I get back you guys won't have stuck EF's head on a pike.

If the Oath really is that terrible we can probably have Mikahil overwrite it with one that's less completely awful, we'll just owe him a favour and he'll have seen us fuck up.

You realize that what most of you are arguing is that, if you know what you're rolling for, you're going to roll better? That's how it sounds like, at least.

If you prefer, then, I'll be more precise on when I'll need a roll or not. Though that is going to be rather difficult for me, since I can't always predict what your answer will be and if it will require a roll.

Thought it sounds like most of you are so mad that you want me to quit this quest. I'm sorry for that.

>>
>>31038192
>Though that is going to be rather difficult for me, since I can't always predict what your answer will be and if it will require a roll.
What.

You ask for votes, then you tally the votes, then you call for rolls for the winning actions.

Like. Every. Fucking. Quest. Ever. Fuck.
>>
>>31038192
Nah. Note all the people telling them to calm the fuck down and it's not the end of the world.

>>
>>31038192
>Thought it sounds like most of you are so mad that you want me to quit this quest. I'm sorry for that.
They are mad about dice counting when they had no idea they would, while they got awesome dice previously when it didn't count.

Also
>Though that is going to be rather difficult for me, since I can't always predict what your answer will be and if it will require a roll.
Just do what every other quest in creation does, tally votes, then call for rolls for the action that won the vote, like >>31038214 said.
>>
>>31038192
People are just butthurt over the botch and are lashing out and the fae have been a tense subject for the threads for a while, they'll get over it when they see this hasn't ruined Maka's life forever
>>
Rolled 10

>>31038192
Don't worry about it EF. There's a couple people who got butthurt because they feel that knowing when to roll will magically make us roll better and can't deal with failure. Everyone else accepted that we botched and are waiting for an opportunity to fix whatever fuckup we make
>>
>>31038192
>Though that is going to be rather difficult for me
How?

>since I can't always predict what your answer will be and if it will require a roll.
So don't predict it, no other quest tries to, its folly to even think you can.

Its simple, you hold the vote, after consensus has formed and a vote has won, you post stating which vote won, and that you require such and such rolls for that action.

It is not hard at all, and keeping us informed of what we are rolling for is the least you could do.
>>
>>31038192
That's not what we are arguing at all. The problem is that you can, be deciding when a rolll "counts" essentially means you can manipulate the action in any way you desire. For example, in this thread:
Ask About graces: no roll, auto fail.
Explain the deal: get 6 successes, doesn't count, you look like an idiot.
Agree to keep her. Botch. Bargain for hours without any prompts as to what terms you want or any chance to use our formidable array of social charms.
in no case do you call for rolls ahead of time
>>
>>31038254
It's less that and more being confused as to which dice rolls are going to count for which things. Is that 10 you just rolled going to be incorporated into our next pool, for example?
>>
>>31038192
Not all of us. I'm sure I'm in the minority, but I actually enjoy the occasional botch because it makes the story more interesting, and the story is what I'm here for. I think you're doing great, EF. Handling dice here is tricky, though, I'll allow that.
>>

>"...Well, yesterday you got mad at me because I killed Garnet without first listening to you."

After letting you kill an illusion of him he took my form and said hateful things to you, things I would never say, specifically to break your heart so he could have me to himself. - Official visits inside the Wyld, authorized by you (having the visitors carry a specific symbol or token you'll agree on) are not to be harmed and to be treated with the utmost respect. Anyone else must be warned to leave, they become fair game if they do not comply, but you are forbiden to mislead or trick her

-Likewise, her official visits to Creation are to be treated with the utmost respect (by you and your people, at least).

-She is forbidden from hunting and devouring the souls of humans, or anyone else with emotions including but not limited to gods, and from hurting her in any way, even in self-defense, but she is allowed to sustain herself by feeding off ambient emotions. She is allowed to have a harem of humans to that end, but not as slaves. They have to be volunteers and to be treated humanely according to your standards.

Also, none of this would have happened if you had rolled 10s, you can deny all you want and bring all the worst excuses your agonizing butts can pull, but you know it's true. If you had rolled only 10s, nobody would have brought the issue up at all.

Will be partially agreed, silk will counteroffer but mostly work off that.

In general i only prompt charms when it's an obvious choice, if it's not i'll accept/expect write-ins, which you always did a lot and i've always paid attention to.
I'll be more careful to explicitly ask for rolls from now on. Reason i don't post twice per update (once for vote once for roll) is mostly time.

I think the whole 'prompt for rolls' thing is mostly a information and feel-good issue, while no one is going to complain when the dice are good, i can see why people complain when their luck runs out.

Seriously people you are too invested in this. Just lay back and enjoy the ride. The good and the bad.

You could have said at the start that you ought to roll only when asked for, but since it seems we spew rolls like a machinegun the GM takes the ones after his posts when he needs it.

This minutia is in any case irrelevant since the dice goddess has a sadomasochistic love hate relationship with /tg/

There is little point in bitching excessively and spewing drama. If you find your ethics or morality somehow does not like the way its handled then propose a alternative solution to this and gather support for its implementation in a civil way, but please stop the shit slinging monkey behavior.
>>
>>31039193
>Reason i don't post twice per update (once for vote once for roll) is mostly time.
One solution is, if you're uncertain as to whether players will need to roll or not, simply put 'roll' behind any premade voting options that need them, and make it a rule that if people make customs that seem like they'd need (or players would want) to roll, they do so. Worst-case scenario is they make a custom and don't roll despite needing to, in which case you can explicitly ask for them.

Looking forward to next thread!

considering they're probably still here, your retarded for suggesting it was the best thing to happen to us
>>
>>31039269
No because we never got the third post in the sequence. Until EF finishes the action this is all just discussion.
>>
>>31039280
I mostly meant specifically because we got fucked by a bunch of banked 1s this time, so we use these banked 10s next time and then we call it even and start only rolling when called for. Mostly to help salve the butthurt.
>>
>>31039269
Yes
>>
>>31039193
>Yes. If you don't trust me to be a decent QM i wonder why you're reading my threads. What are you doing here?
I just want to note that people tend to notice failure and criticism more than success. This has been conclusively proven in a wide number of studies. A loose roll system will play into that perception on both sides. Basically, you are more likely to notice and use bad rolls, just as we are more likely to notice and bitch about bad rolls.
>>
Rolled 4

>>31039193
>Reason i don't post twice per update (once for vote once for roll) is mostly time.
Well at the speed these threads go, you'd be losing very little time by making another post announcing what action won the vote and asking for rolls, it would take less than 5 minutes to get the required rolls, and it also lets us know what we're rolling for, what skills and abilities we're using etc
>>
>>31039332
This is true. According to some studies I've read that you need to compliment someone 7 times to every time you criticize them for them to feel your feedback is neutral. So OP, you're alright.
>>
By the way, is it just me or are the dice botching on Mental rolls to the exclusion of all others?

Maybe it's a sign from the dice gods that Maka is...less blessed in the brain area compared to certain other places.

That would be amusing.

I wonder how we would be trying to do both at once, we'd probably be amazing.
>>
>>31039332
the funny thing is that it doesn't just applies to rolls, it also applies to criticism... that is QM is much more likely to be noticing the anger and bitching than all the people who are chill about the whole thing

well she does have to comply with any physical restraints. We got ourselves a damn good submissive, methinks.

>>
>>31039193
You could just say:
>[Action] (roll 1d10)
when one of multiple options would require dice.
>>
>>31039649
I think the issue is that sometimes write ins are converting non-roll options into roll-for options and EF can't predict in advance when that will happen. Personally I'd prefer just having rolls called every time and then getting a message if they're used (and if so what for) or not.
>>
>>31039649
this could work for non-write in options. For any write ins, we'll just have to guess
>>
>>31039649
That's a bad option. We do Other/mixed options way too much.
>>
>>31039649
One problem is that people could downvote based on rolls (eg, first person to choose option A rolled a botch, people then vote for option B that doesn't require a roll).

I think in a case where several options are given and only some requires a roll, FIRST have a vote, then if the roll requiring one is chosen have QM post:
>Action A selected, roll 1d10
and count the first X votes after that.

Really, it barely takes any time for people to roll, typically you have all the rolls needed in under a minute
>>
>>31039649
I honestly don't have any problem with how EF's been running the show.

Sometimes you just botch, mang.
>>
>>31039784
That implies people are closely watching the thread instead of multitasking.

It would also require OP not to be multitasking like he's claimed to be behind the scenes so he can check back in for rolls quickly...which might not be as easily doable as you'd expect.
>>
Rolled 5

>>31039784
this is what I've been suggesting since the start, and would have prevented this entirely...
>>

It takes literally 5 minutes extra to get required rolls...

He can still do whatever he is in the background and do it this way, while we're kept informed and things run smoother, seriously, there is NO reason not to do this method.
>>
>>31039816
>That implies people are closely watching the thread instead of multitasking.
1. auto update is a thing, it makes a (#) appears if there are unread posts
2. People ARE checking the thread, all the time

>It would also require OP not to be multitasking like he's claimed to be behind the scenes so he can check back in for rolls quickly...which might not be as easily doable as you'd expect.
I don't see why not. it is extremely simple and pretty much everyone does that
>>

>He can still do whatever he is in the background and do it this way, while we're kept informed and things run smoother, seriously, there is NO reason not to do this method.

Sorry, but that makes no sense to me at all, how can announcing what action won and waiting 5 minutes before starting to write the next update make things twice as slow, it would only take a 1 sentence post + a few minutes on top of the time you already wait for consensus to appear and decide the winning action.
>>
>>31040190
>I'm not talking about doing something better
so, you admit that you have absolutely no fucking clue on how to possibly be more gentle and polite than I was, and cause less butthurt. Yet still bitch on how I hurt your/some-anon's feelings by "talking down to them" (translation: Being right when they were wrong)

Oh, on that point? Sorry, the way you speak is clumsy and confused. I thought you were going back to the point of handling rolling.

You were being a condescending tool by saying dismissive shit like 'pay attention to what is being discussed' and rephrasing things for greentext in a condescending manner. Just saying, 'the conversation's moved on beyond that' would have sufficed. Instead, you were a condescending ass-muncher about it because you like to talk down to people on the internet or something.

Have some self-awareness.
>>
>>31040234
Since you're dumb, imagine this scenario:

>can only use computer for 10 minutes every hour

Case 1:
>post scene, ask for votes and roll
>1h later: tally votes, check roll results, make next post.
Total: 1h

Case 2:
>post scene, ask for votes
>1h later: tally votes, ask for roll.
>1h later: check roll results, make next post.
Total: 2h

Let me break this down for you, you ridiculous shitstain.
A person observed your argument about changing the roll system, commented that the roll system works, and that players being upset by a failed roll was not a reason to tack on additional rules. You rewrote his post to focus on the botch comment, rather than the rules assessment, and acted like somehow your opinion on the system was more valid than anyone else. You're an incompetent fucklord, your opinion doesn't matter, and the system isn't going to change.

>>
>>31040354
Not that anon, but this is a really implausible PC access scenario. However, thank you for explaining.

It occurs to me that on case 1.
A. a roll can be asked for even if a non roll option is chosen (just ignore the roll in such a case)
B. It would be best to NOT notify players ahead of time which options require a roll to avoid people changing their vote based on the roll results. (although it is still possible for this to happen)

Another alternative is for you to just roll for us when you finish tallying the vote, I am perfectly fine with that (heck, can allow rolling with a higher quality RNG than the board's roller)

If you literally cannot comprehend how people have to do things other than sit on 4chan and wait for you to post, then you are, in fact, an idiot.
And if being called an idiot, of all things, especially in the midst of an actual insult flinging argument, offends to the point where you repeatedly post about how upset you are over being called an idiot, then maybe you should find a kinder, more gentle site to frequent.
>>
>>31040765
I can comprehend that perfectly fine, but that still does not mean I understand the intricacies of his posting and thread running procedure that invalidates my feedback.

I open my mouth and offer some feedback that I thought would help make running the thread smoother, and he treats me like a 3 year old, when here I was, trying to help and thinking we could all be civilized after the pointless shitstorm.
