After a few hours of furious negotiations (even among yourselves) in the ship's dark cargo hold, you, Tia, Yaraon and Zaan manage to narrow down the oath that you'll be submitting Silk to. Thinking back to it, she's been very smart with her persuasive words, and got you and your companions to agree or concede much more than you would normally have.

On the other hand, you realize that she herself has not gone too far with her demands, even where she could have. You have the feeling that she really wants to find a deal that you'll find acceptable too.

The new draft of the oath is:

- Silk will be the absolute ruler of the Black Marsh Wyld as our vassal. She reserves the right to reshape it in any way she wants as long as this doesn't affect Creation. Its borders cannot be expanded but they may be reduced slowly to nothing over the course of 200 years.

- Official visits inside the Wyld, authorized by you (having the visitors carry a specific symbol or token you'll agree on) are not to be harmed and to be treated with the utmost respect. Anyone else must be warned to leave, they become fair game if they do not comply, but she is forbidden to mislead or trick them into wandering in the Wyld.

-Likewise, her official visits to Creation are to be treated with the utmost respect (by you and your people, at least).

-She is forbidden from hunting and devouring the souls of humans, or anyone else with emotions including but not limited to gods, and from hurting others in any way, even in self-defense, but she is allowed to sustain herself by feeding off ambient emotions. She is allowed to have a harem of humans to that end, but not as slaves. They have to be volunteers and to be treated humanely according to your standards.

-You will do your best to protect and defend her from outside enemies, including other Fair Folk seeking to invade her realm.

-She will provide you with materials crafted from Gossamer at your request, up to one half of her owned reserves, crafted by her to fit your needs.

-She has to accept and submit to any physical binding you or Tia inflict on her.

-She has to assist you in war when called.

-This deal applies to both yourselves and your respective followers.

-This deal lasts until you can meet with Mikahil, at which points it can be confirmed or renegotiated, and voids the previous oath you had with her.

And Silk's objections, upon taking a good look at them on paper, are: "Mhh... well, two hundred years is a really short time. I was hoping to stay a bit longer. I AM going to be your vassal after all, am I not?"

You blink. "A short time? Really?"

"Well, it is, isn't it?" She doesn't sound like she's joking. "How about... just that we keep the post-war borders fixed for a hundred years, and then re-negotiate every hundred years?"

You rub your temples. Yaraon really doesn't look like he approves, but then again, he is going to be the god ruling over whatever land you take off her, so that's normal. "I'll think about it. What else?"

"I can't possibly be disarmed AND help you in war now, can you?" She has a point. "If you want that from me, you'll have to let me make a new sword and a new army. Of my own this time, not borrowed from Dorian, of course. I never shared his taste for human children anyway."

You try not to think too hard about it.

"Last thing: Half of my gossamer is way too much. How about a third? After all... for you it's a nice extra commodity, but I need that stuff to actually BUILD and RULE my realm."

>>31040802
>Anyone else must be warned to leave, they become fair game if they do not comply
I am children might have an issue here. Also someone who is injured might not be ABLE to comply.
>>
>>31040945
sounds fine to me, honestly a bit of goodwill here would be worth more than a bit of Gossamer

By the way, we should ask Smoke how things between her and Yaraon went
>>
>>31041036
If they are too injured to leave, how did they get into the wyld in the first place

As long as she doesn't use her new army to attack us or our allies obviously
>>
>>31041091
Depends on what she makes the army out of I suppose.
>>
>>31041036
The wylds are pretty far from most towns I doubt there would be any kids there that we should worry about
>>
>>31040945
third is fine. half is just being greedy.

200 is too fast, but every 100 years is too slow... debate the amount of years.

>>31041081
1. They could have gotten injured in the wyld (it is a dangerous place)
2. Untreated injuries worsen over time, they could have been lightly injured when they entered, by the time she contacts them they are suffering from bloodloss and infection
>>
>>31041109
How does she make armies?
>>
>>31040945
>Gossamer

Could an exalted newbie get a quick explain on this, preferably from what Maka would know of it?
>>
>>31040945
>"Well, it is, isn't it?" She doesn't sound like she's joking. "How about... just that we keep the post-war borders fixed for a hundred years, and then re-negotiate every hundred years?"
This might be a problem depending on when we want to make our own kingdom and retake Gem
>>
>>31041118
>Demanding she be disarmed
>Demanding she aid in war
yea, this is a contradiction, we need to drop one or the other

>but every 100 years is too slow
fucked up the phrasing
renegotiating every 100 years is too... renegotiable.

Also, another thing we can give her is to basically add more lands ELSEWHERE. that is, as we kill or conquer more fae, she can lay claim to their lands too under similar terms, she is basically benefitting from our victories over the wyld by managing the decline of the marsh.
>>
>>31041130

>>
We should clear what happens if Maka dies, wouldn't want her to overrun Tianna the moment we get a botch in combat or something
>>
>>31041222
That's true. We need to have a line of succession as far as prime negotiators is concerned.
>>
>>31041241
Ideally if we aren't available her oath would fall to the current ruler of Tianna.
>>
You roll your eyes, getting quickly tired of all this pointless arguing. Honestly, Silk seems very annoyed as well. Desperately struggling to...
...Rather than power, you fell like her greatest need is to have a place where to belong. She seems to have grown tired of other Raksha, so she has resolved to live in a small island of Wyld cordoned off by Creation, and spend some time on her own.

Is she the Fair Folk equivalent of the ascetic living alone on a mountain? As weird as that concept sounds in your mind, it's the only one that makes sense. Her attempts at negotiating the oath are mostly caused by fear that you'll deny her a place where to live as herself and be herself.

...You can arrange that.

[TALKING TO THE HEART]
[MAJESTIC RADIANT PRESENCE]

Social + Zenith = 10 10 8 10 4 1 10 7 2 2 = 10 successes

"You're getting bored with all this talk, Silk?" You ask her, as Essence surges around you.

"Eh, a bit. I just with we could agree on-" She suddenly stops, looking at you, eyes fixed on your forehead.

"I'm going to make you a different offer now. Completely different. You're free to take it, or to reject it and then we can just finish working on this oath."

"...It's not an oath?" She wonders, surprised. Backing up, slowly scooting on her shapeless base along the rough wooden floor of the cargo hold.

You extend your hand to her. "Become my pet."

New sword is fine.
New army ... what does that require? Souls? pretty much the only source I can think of that will be ok are lintha and other fae.

>200 years too fast
agree to a slower figure of shrinking as long as it is constantly shrinking at a set figure. I am ok with going all the way up to 500 years.
if she bulks at that, point out there will be other wyld territories you will likely get in the future where a more permanent border might be an option, but in THIS case you already agreed to get rid of it all.

"...But-"

"Your Wyld realm will be defined by me. Your feeding will be provided by me. You will have the weapons and servants I'll allow you to have, and as much gossamer as I'll see fit to leave to you." You state.

"...What will I be getting out of this deal?" She asks, in utter disbelief.

"Me, as your mistress and owner."

The light has inundated the hold, brilliant as noon. Yaraon is flabbergasted. Tia is... massively turned on, it seems?

"...Why should I agree to this?" Silk can only mumble.

"Because you want to be safe. I can make you feel safe. Because you want to be yourself, and to enjoy yourself. I can make a yourself that you'll enjoy being. And... because you want to see interesting things. And I'm the most interesting thing you'll find in Creation.

She stares at your hand, entranced.

People have been treating the fae as if they were actual people with real feelings.

But they're not real people, and their feelings are just props and lies.

If we treat her like a pet, I assume we won't be doing that anymore.
>>
>>31041678
I think he's referring to how fae fake their emotions. On the other hand, a shape and role are restricting to a fae. In essence they have a distinct tendency to believe their own lies.
>>
>>31041636
>Real feelings

That depends. If she fell in love with us then it would be real. Fae can't get rid of bonds made with beings from creation. Unlike say another fae where it would be fake.
>>
>>31041699
But pets have feelings. people treat their pets with kindness.

The emotions are real, they are just native to their being. And far less tightly integrated with their person. They are real artificial external graft emotions
>>

Hey, Exaltedfag? Feel free to shoot this down if it would be too much of a bother for you, but could you use your Twitter to tell us that a new thread is incoming in x days or y hours instead of just posting links? I don't really find it useful to just have links pop up when I can just search for Exalted in the catalog and find any of these threads that way anyway. I would find it much more useful to know when, instead, I should be looking.

If not, that's fine too. Just wanted to toss some feedback your way as far as your twitter is concerned.

I'd prefer it different, honestly, but I understand you're not about to change. That said, a pastebin explaining what each stat and caste is, and giving examples of what each combination would look like and when you do and do not call rolls. Basically, write something up that if read by an observant player would give them a pretty good chance of guessing if there's a roll, and if so what we'd be rolling.

She's probably turned on because we're acting like the benevolent and magnanimous god-queen we're supposed to be.

Ok. As I said, I wasn't sure. I wasn't there when we got our ability and her response to it could have easily been interpreted as 'UMI time'
>>
>>31042061
I love how artificially making yourself more charismatic is pretty much the exact same thing. But people care more about messing with peoples minds even though either way you're doing just that. Just one is making yourself so godly they have to submit while the other is making them submit though mental effects.

>>
>>31042061
>We explicitly tried to not make Maka an UMI monster.
Well let's not be too hasty, there are some cases where we would want a UMI, like against slavers or people we really don't like
>>
>>31042123
It's because they still have the option to decline. For example, it doesn't matter how hot you look if you try to sleep with someone with a sleazy pickup line. With a UMI, there's not even a chance at resisting, and usually permanently fucks up the person
>>
>>31042123
it's the difference between making a genuinely good meal or making someone thing the ham sandwich you made is 5 star cuisine
>>
>>31042147
It's still in the end the same effect though different means. Not only that but UMI can also be fluffed as speaking so well you can't naturally shake it off. So it always seems weird to me when people act like it's the worst thing in the world compared to say mass murder.
>>
>>31042169
Nah it's the difference between doing a mental effect to force them to agree or cheating and boosting yourself above normal limits and forcing them to agree just in a harder means. Either way you fuck them up because it's not like anybody is going to spend willpower unless they really don't want to do that.

Extremely variable, actually. 'God' is an entire class of entity ranging from the equivalent of single-celled life to the Unconquered Sun himself.

>Primordialhood on the other hand...
Is often crippling, still got themselves killed, tortured, and imprisoned by exalts, and only available to Green Sun Princes.
>>

>>
>>31043695

>>
>>31043643
Kinda. A Primordial is simultaneously a location, an organization, and a single being that's the gestalt of both of those things. For example, Cecelyne is a desert, a religion, and the being that is those two things combined. Malfeas is a city, a lordship, and the being that is those two things combined.

Primordials aren't human.

The things that don't exist anymore and have vaguely defined powers that has never been stated?
>>
Would it be possible for someone to give a rundown on all the various magical substances in exalted for a newbie?

From what I've seen so far, Iron is magically anti-fae (Steel doesn't exist yet?), the Fae turn emotions into 'Gossamer' which is vaguely magical, and then Jade is some kind of super magic?

I wonder how much Gossamer Maka+Tia produce between them with just ambient emotion
>>
>>31043871
Pretty sure steel exists. Iron is just classic anti-fae, and is used to combat them as it nullifies their powers and whatnot.
>>
>>31043756

Conky automatically wins at planning against the solar however due to it being part of his domain of 'Being best at any opposed conflict with a person'

I'm just tossing out stuff for whiteboxing a battle between them. As saying 'The solar has a plan' is an assumption and also assuming that Conky doesn't.

>>31043871

Iron is not magic. It's just the nature of it being too solid and...real...for Fae to handle. Gossamer is a low-tier artifact material compared to the magical materials but VERY plentiful with Fae. It's also very good for making stuff related to Dreams and Stories.

Jade is just generally all-round awesome and the first of the True Magical Materials. It's relatively common compared to the others and very versatile, being able to be made into basically anything and be very good at it. It does however, favor elemental things.
>>
>>31043865
If you're going to compare the most powerful god in existence it's just fair to compare him to the most powerful Solar in existence before saying that gods are better than Solars
>>
>>31043871
>Steel
It exists it just isn't everywhere yet.

>Gossamer
It's mainly just something a fae can use to turn into something else. That is pretty magical. Biggest use for us though is dosh.

>Jade
Dragon blooded material. It's also the currency of the realm.

There is also.

>Soulsteel
Steel made of souls

>Moonsilver
Lunar materials. Used in the lunar tattoos.

>Orichalcum
Holy gold purified by sunlight.
>>
>>31044017
There's also Starmetal which is made from dead gods
>>
>>31043950
Biggest issue is we have no idea just what E10 solars really looked like. We have some high level charms but most are like E7 We do however have UCS stats.
>>
>>31044017
What about the bronze that Tianna's been using?
>>
>>31043871
There's Jade, which comes in multiple colors and is the most common. Dragonblooded usually have Jade weapons fitting their element.
There's Orichalcum, it's made when gold is melted by lava and heated by the sun and found (very rarely) in the ground or can be manufactured. most often used by solars
There's Moonsilver, which is Silver and stuff and used by Luanrs, mostly. I think it can change its shape or something.
There Starmetal, made out of stars that fall down when a destiny changes, mostly used by Sidireals
There's Soulsteel, steel infused with the tortured souls of the dead, used by Death Knights.

There's also Adamant, which is super-diamond. It's very, very sharp and hard but isn't commonly used by any type of Exalt
>>
Someone was saying something that most solar exalted just wind up using old exalted stuff?
>>
>>31044072
it's just bronze
>>
>>31044129
what do you mean exactly?
Do you mean that most Solars use old artifacts often looted from their own tombs? That's because in the current age people can't make stuff comparable to the super-weapons of the past so older is better, unless you're a solar crafter

That's made of tin and copper. Mundane materials are still mundane materials. Steel, bronze, iron, etc. There's also weirder, more obscure stuff - feathersteel, Chiaroscuro glass, and so forth.

She takes your hand.

Tia makes some kind of inarticulate, gushing/squeeing noise.
Yaraon has the look of someone so utterly caught by surprise that he has no idea how he should react.
Zaan is desperately trying not to laugh.

"You know, this is going to be actually harder on you than it would be if she were more independent." He says, trying to stay serious. "You WILL have to take care of her."

"It's okay." You reply to him, gently removing Silk's chains, which fall to the ground loudly, and instead taking the veil wrapped around your neck and chest, and tying one end of it around her neck in its place. It sinks a bit into her flesh as it returns to semiliquid consistency, but she doesn't melt through it or slide out of it, even though it would be trivially easy to. "I'm sure she'll behave, and handle herself just fine."

"...Yes! I will!" She says, looking super determined. Her shape has changed, becoming more definite and less menacing, probably in reaction.

What should you do now?

>Ask Silk to alter her appearance
>Ask Silk to retrieve and turn (all/part of) her luggage to you
>Ask Silk (something else)
>Ask Yaraon something (what?)
>Ask Zaan something (what?)

>>
>>31046736
Eh. I'm not into maids - especially when it's something messy like goo girls, or for harem-members themed as pets. If we're going to have a maid, it should be a mortal, to play counterpoint to Regis.

"Well, I think we should get some rest." You say. "I'm still a bit wounded and need some time to heal. Tia is a bit beat up too."

If Tia's animal totem were some kind of dog, she'd be waggling her tail right now, you imagine.

"I see." Zaan nods, and coughs loudly until Yaraon gets the message and realizes it's time to leave. "Too bad the room is busy, but I'm sure no one uses the cargo hold right now." He winks.

As they leave, you briefly consider that, yes, the cargo hold isn't the most comfortable space on the ship.

But you don't have much of a choice in any case, it seems. Especially Tia, she doesn't look like she's going to wait another minute.

Yawning lazily, you slip off of the second and last strip of cloth tied around your waist, and drape it over Silk like she's a coat-hanger. "I really need a rest." You mumble, lying down, stomach-up, on the floor. "Hey, Tia. Massage me. With Silk."

"With... Silk?" She mumbles, awestruck by your absolute genius.

"Of course. You see anything else appropriate around here?" You reply. "Be sure not to miss a spot."

Tia and Silk exchange a knowing glance and nod to each other. Obeying to her silent order, Silk gently lies over you. Your body is wrapped in her substance. Much to your surprise, it doesn't feel slimy or sticky at all: it's more like fresh, cool oil, maybe a bit creamy. She spreads over you like a blanket, then, sliding all over your body, mostly gathers up below you, gently lifting you off the rough floor like a water mattress. On your part, the feeling is somewhat like gently floating on water, lulled comfortably. A thin layer of her bright blue substance is spread uniformly all over your body, however, clinging to it just like slightly thick oil would.

Tia then provides the massage, and much, much more, over the next several hours.

I just want to see for now. Personally, I would prefer holding off on voting until next thread so we have some time to see our options and discuss them. >>
>>31047025
I don't remember reading anything about god-blooded gestation. Jukashi may have just been extrapolating. As far as exalts are concerned, though, Dragonblooded have 15 month pregnancies, but Celestials have the normal 9.

I would put in a strong word for Graceful Crane Stance. It's one of those bread-and-butter abilities that seems a bit boring compared to alternatives. And then you recognize that it's wuxia-style mobility that opens up all kinds of tactical options and stunts.
>>
>>31046991
...Amata has a lot of maids. Like, in the mid tens of maids. We can nab one.

Also, we're going to have to leave her one of her children. Now I'd rather leave Samiel because we need a tech head more than a warrior and troop leader (though having one would be useful), but rulership might be matrilineal in Tianna so I'm not sure Irene's actually available for us to take with us.
>>
>>31047064
We can let her poke around our new Raksha. I imagine she'd be interested in examining her.

Silk doesn't seem like she'd mind, unless Irene decides to try vivisecting her or something.

Dang. Sounds like people are going with Heroism-Encouraging Presence - which, mind you, should still be super useful. Can we agree on getting Tiger-Warrior Training Technique eight experience points from now, at least? I am torn about getting Tiger Warrior Training Technique or Dawn 4.

Screw it. I'll vote for buying Tiger Warrior Training Technique. Its better to have a well trained forced and not need it then not have it and need it.

We also need to get to toughen up our Shota butler. He will need to learn how to defend himself if he says with us.

>>
>>31048261
We don't have enough twilight to know the answer to that question. Not having twilight is kinda annoying.
>>
>>31048261
You don't have her "heart grace". You can have her alter her appearance, but that's because she took on a naturally fluid form, not because you can change her fundamental nature for some reason.

The basic idea is that you have a lot of power on her, but it's a power you have because you convinced her to become your willing slave/servant/pet/whatever word you prefer or offends you less.

She is subservient to you, but willingly so: a role she accepted. Just because a dog recognizes you as its owner, it doesn't give you the power to transform it into a cat, to use a metaphor.

Or, to explain more accurately: Fae always play roles, because outside of them they don't "exist" in creation. They craft personas for themselves.
You convinced her to change persona, and her new persona is one subservient to you. She's doing this because she wants it, and because you've persuaded her that, by being subservient to you, she'll get what she wants: safety, entertainment, to satisfy her curiosity, to play around and to be lazy, and to express herself to her leisure without being bound to the whims or orders of other fae.

If you treat her badly, or give her the feeling that you're not going to provide these things to her, she'll probably drop the persona and leave, just like a mistreated dog running from its owner or turning on him.

To make a slightly lewder comparison, you persuaded her that slave-and-master roleplay is amazing and will satisfy her needs, and she decided to play along because you've been extremely persuasive.
If it REALLY will satisfy her needs you could well keep her as your pet slave forever.
If it won't... well, she's extremely long-lived and therefore very patient, so unless you really fuck everything up, she'll be willing to put up with a lot before getting tired and leaving (or worse).

She is not technically bound to an oath now. You could oathbind her, but that would mean treating her as an equal, rather than as a subject.
>>
>>31047097
is 5 as high as zenith can go?

Yes.
>>
>>31048756

>>
So. was Garnet killed by tia and his illusion was just a last act of revenge... or did he escape?
Because if he escaped, we now have a powerful fae noble who has a grudge and an obsession with us (what with being sworn to love us forever); an interesting BBEG to say the least.

One of the reasons it matters is that instead of taking our familiar's sword, we had her destroy it. So she is literally incapable of self defense.
