You are Cherial of the house Atraoʒ, last scion of that name, and a dark skinned Wila elf. Yesterday, a risky investment paid off very well, granting you four slaves. You sold one, and leased off another, a large imperial Gnoll. You currently have two in your immediate employ, a girl of the Sidhe elves called Silirillija il Rislirijill and a human sun priestess called Ilandra. You also have a farmhouse that you purchased to live in, and a mask and bones that are all that remain of your House besides your own self.

You'd been investigating seed prices, and you would like to use the land you have for something, but it's become apparent that you don't yet have the labor needed to use your land effectively. You consider plots and loans to get the means, but ultimately they all seem untenable, and you're wary of incurring much debt. Instead, you decide to resume something you'd left behind a lifetime ago. You look for work where your education might be of use. Though you find a scribe's office, you are informed that they don't need work. But you do check in at the estate of the self-styled Prince Sinod, who rules the town of Sinodan where you reside, and inquire about employ. You are directed to an old goblin, who suggests you might be worth a quarter-sterling for accountancy work, if you show that you can do it well. It's less than you'd make on your back, but the prospects of advancement within the field are probably better.

When our mind's tired it's time for our body to earn its keep.

It's only a part-time job besides the accounting, so it doesn't matter if we don't earn top coin because we're tired.

Some questions from the old thread:

>what can the PC do to make money? How do you make money in this world?
Coming up with that is the player's job in this quest.

>so...are women given all the same authority that men are?
In this part of the world, there's little by way of social structure. If you have money, people will deal with you, and if you have skills people will pay you for them. Unequal gender roles might come up as a plot point if it's relevant, but I'm not going to soapbox and it's kind of boring as a challenge for players in my opinion.
>we are some kinda special elf?
"Wila" is just an ethnic group. No more special than the Sidhe, arguably less special than the Caele, who haven't come up yet and are a very rare sight.
>what can magic actually do?
Theoretically anything. In practice, people use it for a variety of things. Magical weapons are popular, as are magical luxury items. It's too expensive to be good for much else, although the Sidhe and Toltecatl use lifewarping magic to make magically make improved species of plants and animals which can then be bred. There are also a few powerful mages, woh can work magic so fast they use spellstuff itself as a weapon, and can change things with but a thought. Or so folks say, you've never seen anything of the sort.
>how capable are we at fighting/lying/persuading?
Physically, you're a girl in her late teens/early twenties, with no combat experience. You're fairly persuasive but nothing diplomancer-tier. Mechanically, the only thing you have a bonus to at this point is barter.
>>
>>31071876
You don't know what you'd make. Ilandra makes a half-sterling a night at the dockside bordello, which is already more, and you'd make more than her due to race. What you'd make promoted presumably depends on the promotion.

It's been a week since you paid off your indent. You've made good money since then, through your own labors and those of your more productive slave, Ilandra. She seems to enjoy her new vocation more than you enjoy yours - you're consistently saddled with mental drudgework. Nonetheless, you've made decent money.

Your other slave, Sil the Sidhe, was sick when she got off the ship, and so you haven't made her work, but she's still helping around the house. She seems happy enough to contribute in that way, cooking and cleaning and washing, though it's wasting her true talent. You're not entirely sure what it is, because despite Ilandra's efforts, Silirillija still has a poor grasp of the trade tongue. You do know she was apprenticed as some kind of artisan before being captured, but that's the most you've been able to deduce.

As you leave your work on this last day, the goblin you've been working with informs you that there is someone came to see you. You recognize him as the man who sold you your new home, who you currently owe fifty sterlings. "Hey hey hey, good to see you! How are you liking the house, hm? Just thought I'd check up on you. No pressure or anything." He clearly wants his money.

I really like how this quest has stayed firmly away from any magical realms, and would really like to keep it that way. Can we just completley gloss over sex/magical realm stuff whenever possible?

>>31072750

>>
>>31072646
>other
Invite him inside, chat, then slip a hand on his thigh and ask if there's any other way we could pay this month's interest.

We need every d we've got, so if we can get away a month without paying, great.

>>31072663
Let's leave it up to the players and our choices.
>>
>>31072797
Actually, I did have a reason for this beyond the lewd.

Virgins are normally paid much higher in markets, if we're experienced then we can ask for a higher rate.

Whoring is a more complex business then one would assume.
>>
>>31072797
We don't have enough at this minute to pay in full, so discussing if he can lower the interest rate will help in us paying less next month.

Plus making him think he owes us will bring bad relations, he seems like the type to dislike owing others.
>>
>>31072646
It's best to pay off the debt in large payments, so we pay les interest in the end. I say pay 30 st, but not before we feign ignorance and strike up pleasent conversation for a while. If he wants money we should make him work a bit for it.
>>
>>31072663
>this quest has stayed firmly away from any magical realms
No, I'm just bad at lewd. But we already have elf slave (wat do) a bit of groping (where people went for cute instead of sexy) and public nudity for religious reasons.

>Can we just completley gloss over sex/magical realm stuff whenever possible?
I'm not going to try and keep sex out of it. I've just been sandboxing. There should be more explicit plot hooks coming up now that the basic game is established, some of those should probably have potential for lewd, although I haven't thought of any great ones yet.

>How about it doesn't matter?
It would have mattered if players decided to work at the bordello; that sort of thing increases prices. It could still matter if players go for a political marriage or something.

>Pay a but more (15s)
>Pay maximum convenient (30s)

Also, if you'd like conversation first, suggest things to talk about.

>>31072830
>We need every d we've got

>>
>>31072999
>Let's leave it up to the players and our choices.
>>
>>31073026
>Pay maximum convenient (30s)

While having tea with him, discuss if he can lower the interest rate a little, that way we can pay him more much sooner.
>>
>>31072959
Wait, this means he needs the money. Tell him we don't have to pay any interest until the end of the month, but if he needs a payday loan we can do it for him.
>>
>>31073026
I vote we talk about why we are giving him cash early, and if he can lower the intrist rate in return for this favor, then give him "a bit more" or "maximum convenient" depending on how good the deal is. we don't have to give him anything yet do we? we don't need to pay till the end of the month.
>>
>>31073026

>Pay maximum convenient

I understand you're in a rush, but most of my capital isn't liquid right now. This is the best I can do.
>>
>>31073026

>>
>>31073026
>>Pay a but more (15s)

>>
>>31073067
I should also clarify, you guys suggested ten a week. This is a payment, not interest.

>>31073070
>I vote we talk about why we are giving him cash early
If it was me, I'd be doing it because it's cheaper to pay off debt before interest compounds. Is that not why you guys want to?
>>
>>31073026
Out of those options, pay maximum convenient.

>>31073099
Paying our mortgage, so we have less interest to pay later, isn't "being a pushover"
>>
>>31073026
>Pay maximum convenient (30s)
Strike up some conversation about the current economics of the region, and how he's doing. Try and get information about current events out of him, and try to drag out the conversation for as long as possible. See his reaction to our stalling, he might be a delicate economic situation (needs money soon). If that's the case then we should use this to exert leverage over him.
>>
>>31073117
I get the feeling some people here haven't paid a mortgage in their life.
>>
>>31073121
He is asking for us to pay ONE WEEk after we took the mortgage. we have three more weeks to make the first payment. He must really need cash or something.
>>
>>31073121
the interest isn't THAT bad, and having liquid cash on hand is always useful.
>>
>>31073146
All debt is the same though. Sure, some people probably don't have mortgages, but who doesn't have a credit card?
>>
>>31073146

>>31073174
paying off your credit card early doesn't actually save you any money, does it
>>
>>31073117
>Pay maximum convenient (30s)

Less money we owe him, the better.
>>
>>31073163
>He must really need cash or something.
Then we can drive a hard bargain with a payday loan.
>>
>>31073201
BUT THAT'S NOT HOW IT WORKS.

there are several, or a few people in this thread who don't understand how debt, credit, or mortgages work. At all.
>>
>>31073117

It's more that if he needs the money before it's owed, we could probably shake him down a bit and end up saving more money.
>>
>>31073192
Yes it does. Pay it before interest compounds and you don't pay any interest, meaning if you pay it in full at the end of every month you get the convenience of a credit card for free. Assuming it's not one of those cards with an annual fee, but even then you're still saving money compared to if you let interest compound.

>>31073235
I'm not seeing how that's wrong.
>>
>>31073280
>I'm not seeing how that's wrong.
Interest on this mortgage compounds monthly, and it's been just over one week since taking it out.

Paying the maximum amount now doesn't save any more money than paying a smaller amount and having more liquid capital in the interim.
>>
>>31073280
i could do some math, but im tired and headed to bed. anyways, we aren't loosing much at all by paying the minimum, and we need some liquid cash

I vote minimum unless he sweetens the deal.

"Hey", you say, letting him talk for his money. "It's been going pretty good. I'm settling in to the place nicely. How's it going for you?" The wide smile on his face looks a bit fake. "Oh, I can't complain. Things have been worse, and will be again. But I could use a bit of money you know, I'm working on an other place, making it almost as nice as the one I sold you, but I really need a bit more to take care of... A few things. That's why I stopped by actually, I seem to recall you had some to pay me still." Of course you did. You fish out some change from your purse, more than enough. He only needs ten, but you give him thirty. "That's for the next two weeks as well, I owe you twenty now." The happiness on his face is palpable. "Right, of course, thank you. Hey, that's a solid place I sold you, but it's no fortress. You hear about them feral goblins? They say they burned Ilester, to the south. Lots of goblins causing nothing but trouble, hm?" Your boss, who is a goblin, is behind you. "Kobolds too, and humans." "Right, yeah" says the human. "But these were goblins. Anyway, I just hope you got some kind of protection out there." With that, he makes himself scarce. As it happens, you are three helpless non-combatant and unarmed women out there. Kula is a fighter but her lease doesn't expire for another three weeks. With those sobering thoughts on your mind, you leave your workplace.

>>
>>31074520

You meet up with Ilandra. There's a bit of time in between the end of your work and the beginning of hers, so you sit talking. You don't spend a lot of time together, since your schedule has you working all day and hers has her working most of the night, so it's nice when you do talk. You mention the goblin raiders. Ilandra doesn't seem worried, but she never does.

Soon enough, Ilandra needs to get going, so you head homeward. It's a long walk, one that would be faster if you had a horse, but for the time being that's not really possible. It's dark when you arrive at home, but Silirillija is happily waiting. She blathers in the broken Trade that she's picked up about the dinner she prepared, and it occurs to you that you could definitely be put to work at this point.
>>
I'm going to end it here. It's not super late, but late enough that I feel like my writing is suffering, and I have somewhat important things to do in the morning. I'll be able to answer questions for a bit, and feel free to use this thread to discuss things including, but not limited to:
