Breaker Quest episode 6

Twitter: https://twitter.com/BreakerQuest
Previous threads: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=Breaker%20Quest

You are Michael Groves, a now-female magical girl fighting a demon-possessed singer that you’d just stabbed, alongside an infernal chorus intent on forcing all thought from your mind with their chaotic tunes.

If the rate of how often strange things happen to you doesn’t change, you figure, you might just end up fighting in space by the end of the week

Jean, the other magical girl, leaps up – strikes this time physically at the sparkling glass that protects the shadowed figure orchestrating the show behind it, and the demon-possessed girl starts to theatrically collapse-

You catch her before she lands. With the destruction of the backing singers, the features have returned to her own face. A surprisingly plain-faced girl, her words still echo weakly – her tongue flicking out over her lips as she sings a duet with herself – the open crotch of her outfit below revealing the second mouth below, the second cry sounding through your own body, drawing it into a hypnotic lull. It’s difficult to concentrate on her even so, with the energetic cry of the mouthed speakers surrounding you, trying to drone out your thoughts.

You listen as best you can.

[Roll 3d6 – Heart!]

>>31083102
We now have a clear and defined goal. Fight in space by the end of the week.

>>31083183
lemme just go ahead and change that
>>
>>31083219
sadly it doesn't count.
>>
>>31083135
[5,4,5=14. Heart check passed with 0 degrees of success.]
You lean in close as the music intensifies. Trying to shut out the senseless noise, clapping your other hand over your ear as you grasp the possessed girl in closer. You can see the problem already - the wound on her chest bubbles darkly red, her voice weak as each breath partially emerges from a new orifice.
The chorus around you threatens to drown out all else as you hear a thud of flesh against unyielding glass from above.

Wait- there. The tune echoes again through your mind, a little catchy phrase - "Listen to me-!" Soft, thready. Yet you can hear it. Trying to coax it from her, to coax that little voice to speak up over all the things that has encrusted itself to it, to block out her own song. It's- barely working.

There's an easier way to listen to her. Another mouth that's trying to speak-!

[ ] Keep the single voice clean - restore that single tune alone, give the demon what she wants as best she can.

[ ] Listen to the voice below - stoke that fire instead - raise it up to give the girl strength again! -Use a shadow token
>>
Is it possible to channel our Fury into Passion instead of the typical Anger?
>>
>>31083404
>[ ] Listen to the voice below - stoke that fire instead - raise it up to give the girl strength again! -Use a shadow token
>>
>>31083406
(Fury can be used as aggression, passion, and generally heated up burning desire! Though attempts to stretch the definition of Fury too much where other statistics would work may lead to penalties for rolls with it!)
>>
>>31083404
>Keep the single voice clean - restore that single tune alone, give the demon what she wants as best she can.
...I REALLY wish we didn't have a sword as a weapon.

This is exactly why blunt is better.
>>
>>31083480
Good to know, at least we have alternatives to raging incoherently.
>>
Rolled 1

(Needing a tiebreaker - 1 for trying to keep her main voice going, 2 for listening to the lower voice)
>>
>>31083661
Honestly I would have just waited for someone else to show up, since 2 people is not a good number for a quest.
>>
>>31083404
>[ ] Listen to the voice below - stoke that fire instead - raise it up to give the girl strength again! -Use a shadow token

voting this if it matters
>>
[x] Keep the single voice clean - restore that single tune alone, give the demon what she wants as best you can.

Shrugging off that stray thought – not now, shadow! –You hold the wound, trying to staunch it – and you hum with in imitation of the tune, repeating after her, reinforcing the tune. Listening to the airy voice, playing it back in a tiny little feedback loop. The world seems to dim slightly as glass shatters around the pair of you – your body, your outfit protecting her and you from the worst of the it – as the speakers go wild in fury, but you are deaf to them, cradling that injured girl in your arms, and listen, as best you can.

And you hear her true, that faint voice.

All she ever wanted was to sing, without managers, without teachers, without music and forced concerts and fans wanting to sexualise her and people forcing their own desires upon her. Just to sing.

The nightmare breaks.

-You blink, the bright spotlights shining down around you. Before you, hovering on the girl’s tongue – an inky black marble with a tongue within it still squirming and moving – you snatch it off her, separating the fulfilled demon essence from her with one bloody hand. And you realise that the wound still exists, the girl’s voice suddenly cut off entirely as she coughs now in pain. Her outfit's - normal, you numbly realise, a sort of tight fitting dress without the parts cut out of it like before.

There’s a shrill scream behind you, and a flash of light, and Jean is above you, helping you grasp the wound for a moment.

“-Looks like you stabbed into a lung a bit... She.. she should live, I think... I can’t keep the people dazzled for long – we need to get away and get out the way for the medical care to treat her. The faster people can get her to the hospital the better."

[ ] We’ve done all we can, here. Let’s get back, let someone else take over.

[ ] I can’t just leave her like this! I’ll stay here until medical help arrives!

>>
>>31084329
>[x] We’ve done all we can, here. Let’s get back, let someone else take over.

I hate to say it, but I don't think we have the skills needed to help.
>>
>>31084329
>[X] We've done all we can, here. let's get back, let someone else take over.

Unless we can drop her off at an ER or magically staunch the bleeding I think we're done here.
>>
Can't Heart heal?
>>
>>31084519
Should have thought of that before you picked Gravity as an element.

Seriously though, our power combination is terrible.
>>
>>31084519
Doubtful. Sounds like a job for Magic.
>>
First breaker quest had heart heal.
>>
>>31084819
Is this first breaker quest?
>>
>>31084870
no, but its based on it. Besides having Magic be heal doesn't make sense.
>>
>>31084945
Why not? You're editing reality to remove the wound.
>>
>>31085064
Wut? Healing involves the body regrowing the missing parts, not replacing them with magical constructs.
>>
>>31084519
>>31084819
(In this case, you haven't learnt anything to heal with! You have no healing magics!)

[x] We’ve done all we can, here. Let’s get back, let someone else take over.

With a nod, you slowly pull your hands away. Your fingers grasp the little black pearl with a wet, bloody grip as you lay the girl – now demon free – down. And then you take Jean’s hand. And run.

---

You stand in the locked bathroom of the mall washing your hands, breathing heavily. A part of you is still exhilarated, but a good deal of you is – is shocked. You’d stabbed someone. Something monstrous at the time, saving – or at least you thought you were saving Jean. And then you’d managed to beat back those.. those speakers of music and dischord, and you’d flown, and- you had ended with blood on your hands and putting down a girl you’d wounded grievously.

You were shaking.

“Hey. Hey, Michael.” Jean’s already putting her hands on your shoulders, looking at you in the mirror opposite. You recognise her. Your own reflection still surprises you.

“She’ll be fine. It was your first real fight as a magical girl, right? You’re alive, and I’m alive, and I’m sure she’ll be fine, ok? Human possessed demons tend to be somewhat durable, though they still get hurt. You did what you thought was best, even with… with something like a sword… and.. don’t beat yourself up over it, ok?”

She was warm, and comforting, and you turn to hold onto her as some sort of dam breaks within you, releasing through your body something that had been building through the fight without you realising it.

[Three bursts have been incurred during the battle.]
>>
>>31085098
Who said anything about replacing anything? Look, next post should be sometime in the next 15 minutes, let's just wait for a ruling from the only person that actually knows how healing works in this setting.
>>
>>31085181

“What’s, what-“ A burst of magic flowing out from you, making the tiles ripple, tear – reforming cracked, damaged. And - a fuzz, in your mind, the sound of the speakers still echoing momentarily in your ears.

“Magic buildup. If you use too powerful magics, they’ll leave traces on you that you’ll need to vent later. It doesn’t look too bad for now, but they can lead to… odd emotional states in yourself, and if it builds up too much you might have physical changes and permanent mental ones, too… but you shouldn't have to worry about that now. One fight and a day won't have let it build up too much”

Now she holds against you, brushing down your outfit.

“How do you feel?”

[ ] Write-in
>>
Healing in the first Breaker Quest was pure Heart. Didn't need a spell. Just a DC check.

>>31085208
I have no idea. We do need some clue on what kind of Vent this will be.

Will it be Lewd? Violent?

???
>>
Too bad we can't just create an estoc. Instead of a blade, they have a Square shape or a Triangle shaped blade (sometimes they could even be blunt) and could be used to stab.
>>
>>31085208
"Tired, worried about her, glad that the Demon's been taken care of and we both came through ok. Glad I did have to do this alone...I don't know how you manage without backup. I don't want to know." Give her a hug, start a little stiff but relax into it. No tears though.
>>
>>31085281
We just established that healing in Free Fall uses a different system than Breaker Original, and we'll probably learn more about it soon.

>>31085208
>"I feel fine. Tired, sore and emotionally drained, but fine. How are you holding up?"
>>
>>31085281
>I have no idea. We do need some clue on what kind of Vent this will be.
(At the moment, its' an equal mixture between all three stats! Take your pick! How does Michael feel suddenly after getting into a first fight, winning, helping save someone, and almost accidentally killing someone?)
>>
>>31085208
"Stupid. I wasn't really thinking when I picked my element and weapon."
>>
>>31085369
Perhaps a bit mad at himself?
>>
>>31085408
He could also be frustrated at not being stronger.
>>
>>31085369
Confused?
>>
>>31085430
but strength wasn't the issue here. We were strong enough. What was the matter was the way we went about doing things.
>>
>>31085369
Tired. Confused. Relieved. Slightly Horny.
>>
>>31085462
Yeah I mean when it came to swording people, we were definitely adequate.

It's just that you know, slashing people with a magic blade isn't really a good idea in this context.

So I'd say frustrated with picking a sword in the first place.
>>
>>31085877
(Not the anon)
So should we try unarmed combat like grappling?
>>
>>31085935
We could practice with Jean, she's much more experienced than us at this stuff.
>>
>>31085877
>Slashing people is a no-no
Fine, we hit them with the flat of the blade instead. Happy?
>>
>>31086012

We could try to make an Estoc like this anon said:
>>31085297, though it's mainly for thrusting.
>>
>>31086055
I'd rather keep a slashing option available myself.

You think back on it, going over the battle in your head. The exultation of power. The shocked feeling of realising what you’d done with it – a tad idiotic at picking something so straightforwards and an instrument that was so harmful. Recalling the freaked out feeling you had when Jean looked like she was in trouble, that shock that had spurred you into stabbing first and thinking after. The recollection of that long tongue emerging from between the singer’s legs to lick out over Jean’s cheek something that brings a slight flush to your face. And – you feel drained.

“I… feel kinda messed up,” you confess, hugging against the older magical girl for a moment, letting yourself rest on her chest. “Tired, worried about her… feeling like I could have picked a better weapon. Glad that we both survived.” Horny.

Jean nods after a second, and steps back. “Good. It looks like you’re not overwhelmed by anything – well, not by magic, anyway. – Magic emotions, not, not magic being all weird and everything, I mean.” She’s weary too, you see, lines around her eyes. “You did good for your first proper battle,” she murmurs, though her smile is tempered by the small little flick she gives you on the forehead. “But, don’t endanger yourself or others to try and save me, ok?”

“Ow! But-“ She cuts you off, tousling your hair a bit.

“Making sure you’re not at risk, or others aren’t at risk is fine. Blowing up manifested demons is fine, too. But if it comes down to choosing between trying to save me and saving someone who’s possessed, try to make sure they’re ok first, right? I’m a tough old girl, you can trust me on that.”
>>
>>31086163

Mutely, you blink, startled by her vehemence – you’d have to think on that for later. And she nods after a few moments, expecting it to have sunk in.

“Now.. you managed to snag the demon essence, didn’t you?” she asks, looking to your pocket. You take it out, holding it up to the light.

“It’s a fairly good one.” The magical girl studies it for a few moments, before closing your hand around it. “Your first step onto getting back your body, or stopping being a magical girl, right? –Or are you planning on using it to gain more power? There’s… risks involved, on doing that – it can give you more… desires, based on what the demon was like, and if you come to accept all of that it can change your body, too , but it can often help power you in quite a few ways.”

[ ] I’ll save this demon essence for my wish.

[ ] I’ll take its power for my own now.

[ ] I… I’m going to go home and rest, work out what to do with it later. Too tired to think now.

[X] I… I’m going to go home and rest, work out what to do with it later. Too tired to think now.

It takes a few moments for you to ask if she wants to come to dinner, which she declines with a smile.

“Oh, don’t forget, your magic outfit.”

You look down, and say something unladylike – still in your corset and boots and miniskirt and all your bizzare splendour… you’d not even realised you were in the supposedly constricting outfit.

“-and… um. How do you, uh… revert it to normal?”

It takes a bit of practice, but you manage to work out the right sort of… release, as you reach up behind yourself and start to unlace – as the corset springs free, there’s a brief moment where it all vanishes – Jean swiftly averting her eyes as you yelp – and just as suddenly, you are dressed once more in the suit Cassie and you had picked out, tight fitting and stuffy.

“-Right! I’ll, um, I’ll get home, then!” Leaving you flushed in the face and covering yourself up.

Cassie answered the phone briefly, glad to hear that you survived and were ok, and tersely asked you to return when you could.

“Your bunny,” she had said when you’d dragged yourself into the living room, “Has eaten the note you left it, a cereal box, most of the skirt I lent you and half a pillow!” The rest of the ragged pillow remains forlornly half out of the bin nearby, feathers scattered around it, with the accused bunny sitting on her knees on the sofa, timid yet defiant alike. She looks to you for desperate help as you groan, and slump into a chair. At least it wasn’t bad as things trying to kill you, right?

“Angela got home safely, but I’ve mostly been tidying up the place… did everything go ok with the demon thing?” You nod, briefly going over the battle as you look over the tidied up bin full of feathers, at the scrumpled up note.

“I’m glad to hear that everything seemed ok. Rain can’t actually read, so writing her a note was… well, it didn’t really help. I think you’re going to have a heck of a time training her, even if she is fairly smart…”

“Rain?” you ask, yawning. The bunnygirl flinches visibly, jerking as if wanting to get up and move to you.

“Rain. The bunny. Because some of the feathers were still floating down when I came home. She just gave you the demon core?” Again, you nod – holding it out. Both Cassie and the bunny stare at it, eyes wide at the sphere of power.

“What are you going to do with it?” the bunnygirl asks, the pajamas she’s wearing loose on her body.

“I’ll… work out something later. For now, I just want…”

“Well, I think I’ve got some ways of teaching you how to learn quickly…” The drawl in your voice comes naturally as you lean forwards, looking over at your bunny… at Rain with inquisitive eyes. She starts after a moment when you set the demon essence down in a pocket once more, as you scrambled up to sit next to her.

Cassie bristles as she watches you lounge on the sofa, sitting upright in her own chair. “As long as you take responsibility for teaching her not to wreck your place. You made her into a… human-ish thing, she’s your pet, after all.”

“Yes,” you repeat. “She is mine, isn’t she?” Rain’s face is surprisingly innocent as she raises an ear, smiling with an expression of lack of understanding on it. She shivers slightly as you stroke her ear, though, twitching as she reaches up to paw at your hand.

“I- I don’t know what reading is, master… And I was hungry! You forgive me, right?” Absent mindedly you nod, softly stroking her pale blue hair back. You turn back to Cassie, to gesture for her to join the two of you, but she’s already standing, walking over to you – walking past. She stops for a moment to speak, though.

“Well, I’ll go get something ready to eat. After fighting I’m sure you’ve got some sort of appetite, don’t you.” Speaking rather surprisingly loudly, but the little squeak from your bunny as you tickle her ear again distracts you from wondering why.

“Thanks, Cassie-!” And you catch Rain in a little hug as she exits the room.

The bunnygirl is… not human. Humanlike, but fluffy ears and tail point out the differences easily enough. The lack of ears on each side of her head is odd enough, but strangely enough it barely detracts from her cuteness. Enough to forgive her anything of the sort if she were to just be as cute as she is now. Another squeak as she leans back, flopping against the couch surface, you looming over her. She doesn’t look worried, only… inquisitive.

“Well… it was my fault for assuming you could read. And not getting anything ready for you to eat, either. You must have been very hungry, and you didn’t know what to do, did you...” She nods, distress crossing her face.

“I’m sorry, master… I’m, just a bunny, after all... a house-bunny who’s lived in a cage for so long and not knowing how to feed myself or look after myself… but I want to make my master happy, though! If there’s one thing I can do, it’s cheer you up!”

“Oh, you can do that, Rain. You definitely can.” You lean in closer, your arms supporting you on each side of her, but hesitate a moment longer. “Rain… is it?”

For a moment, she looks up, a blank, solemn expression there. “Are you… naming me, master?” The faintest blush showing on her cheeks as she watches you nod.

“Yes, I guess. You’re Rain.”

She smiles, a carefree happy grin. “Master has given me something precious,” the newly named bunnygirl whispers.

“Yep~ Now, let me give you something else precious… New knowledge.”

You see her smile grow before you end the conversation with that kiss upon her lips, as you hold her to yourself, as you feel her hugging against you, as you finally come to be at peace for a moment in time.

---

And you sleep.

I'll likely hold a re-vote regarding whether you would wish to eat this demon essence for power or not, and go over what benefits would occur, while what negatives would be produced as well, along with other sorts of issues! It should be a time of great healing and relaxation!
