You are a broken cyborg on a mission to reclaim his stolen parts, and enact revenge on the harvesters who took them.

Last time on Broken Cyborg Quest, we went to the Black Flagon bar to investigate a gang of harvesters operating under a man named Baker. We captured, interrogated, and killed one of them. The rest escaped. We made an ally in the bar named Kyle, who also stands against the harvesters.

You wake up in your bed at the inn, slowly getting to your feet. You feel well rested. The events of yesterday were quite taxing on your body, but a good night's sleep seemed to be just what the doctor ordered.

Kyle told you to meet him at the Black Flagon this morning, but it's still quite early. You figure that you have some time before your associate will even wake up; you've always been a bit of an early riser. You leave your room at the inn, stepping into the bustling town of Cherol. There are a few places of interest you consider visiting; you haven't had anything since your trip to the Flagon Last night. You remember Roth, the mechanic, had his business card on that corrupt pawn shop owner's counter. Investigating him might be worth your while... Or you could just get some of your newly found augments installed.

Installing some of your recovered augments before going to meet Kyle seems like a good idea to you. But you don't have time to investigate the mechanic right now. You'll check him out when you're not busy.

You open the door to the mechanic's shop. "Welco- Oh, it's you!" The female mechanic from yesterday greets you. "Roth, customer!" She calls. A chubby gray haired man in overalls with a slight stubble steps up to the counter. "What can I do you for?" He asks. "I've got some augs to install... And I need some ammunition." You say, rifling through your bag to show him the augments you need installed. "Alrighty. Here's how much each one will cost to put in."

>Enhanced endurance augment - 100 credits
>Radio communication augment - 75 credits
>Optical photograph augment - 60 credits
>Refill ammunition - 70 credits
>Unknown augment - ...

The mechanic looks puzzled as he takes the unknown augment into his hand. "I have no clue what this is supposed to do. Can't help you with that one."
>>
>>31085191
Get all we can loaded up. We've got spare cash.
>>

Also ask about the speed enhancement; since all of Baker's men have it, we should get it too.
>>
>>31085242

>Fully load: 2

"I'll install everything. Load up my ammunition, too." You decide. "300 creds, friend." The mechanic says, extending his hand. You hand him the asked price; you now have 445 credits. "Right this way." He says, walking back to the operating table.

...
...
...

"Everything's online and working. Anything else you need?" He asks. You nod. "Are you still carrying that movement speed enhancement augment?" You ask. Baker and the other harvesters managed to slip away from you yesterday because they had it and you didn't... Having it would be extremely useful. "500 credits." He replies. Damn, you're short. "...Nevermind." "Will that be all?"

You dig through your bag once more and dump Ron's augments on the table. There are certainly a lot of them. "How much can I get for these?" You ask. The mechanic looks startled at all of the augments you've suddenly thrown out onto the counter, but not displeased. "Well, they seem to be of a pretty good quality. I'd be willing to part with 1000 credits for them."

Gotta go fast
>>
>>31085804
Not yet, and we can do it later.
First thing is to meet Kyle, kill another of Baker's goons, and this time take their speed aug and get it installed.

It might be better if we get the goon to take us to where they live so we can take everything from them before killing them and stripping them of parts.

Hell, we might even be able to beat the address of Ron's wife out of the goon.

"I'll take it," you decide. The machine rakes in all of the augments, looking quite pleased with the trade. He hands you the money in a clip, and you decide to keep it separate from the rest of your stash. You now have 1445 credits... But you're averse to spending the 1k. You begin to exit the shop. "Have a good one." Roth says as he examines the machinery you gave him. "Goodbye, come see us again soon!" The cheerier female calls after you.

The early hours of the morning are fading. You should probably get moving to the Black Flagon if you don't want to be late meeting Kyle.

When we decided to use the money from Ron's augs to support his family, that's when I decided that our main character was a fucking badass. I was worried we were slipping into a bit of a Lawful Evil territory; we were fighting the bad guys only because it was what we needed to do to get back our augments. It was a good fight, but for personal gain. But then we saved Kyle from the harvesters, and we promised a fucking mook that we would take care of his family for him. When we showed we actually have a heart, that's when I realized we were closer to Chaotic Good.

You don't wanna keep Kyle waiting. Time to go. You venture once more into the inner city. In the morning, this place is a lot less shady. But it still has a bit of an uneasy aura about it. You easily find your way back to the Flagon.

Approaching the building, you see the bouncer from last night blocking the doorway again. Sighing, you reach into your pocket to prepare another bribe. "Don't worry about it. You're cool." He says. "Eh? What do you-" "You took on those harvesters last night, right? Anyone fighting those piece-a-shit harvesters is a friend of the Black Flagon. You're cool, go in." "Thank you." You enter the bar.

This place is pretty empty in the morning, but Kyle is here, sitting at the bar. As the door opens, he turns and beams at you. "There he is. Don't worry, I wasn't waiting long." He says, gesturing for you to come over. You seat yourself next to him. "Fancy a drink?" He offers.

You take a sip of coffee and a deep breath. If you're going to be working alongside him, he might as well know why you're fighting. "About a week ago, I was what some people might call an aug junkie. I spent a lot of money on buying new tech... And I used that tech to earn more money so I could buy more tech." You pause to take another drink from your cup. "To be honest, those harvesters I kept hearing about... They scared the hell outta me. I had all these augments, so I figured they'd come for me. My solution was to buy even more augs to fight them off. Long story short, it didn't work." You place your hand on your recently reattached leg. "They stripped me. Beat me. Tortured me. But I got out. Now I'm just trying to get back what's mine." "Your augments?" Kyle asks, looking enthralled by your tale. "My dignity." You say, setting down your cup. "...And yeah, my augments."

"I take it you've got a communication augment of some sort, right?" Kyle asks. You nod. "Radio com." "That'll work fine. Here, take this." Kyle puts his hand behind his neck and pulls something out. It looks like a small piece of machinery. "This is a detection augment; it notifies you of nearby life signs and heat signatures. Through your radio telecom aug, I should be able to monitor it for you. It's an equip-aug, meaning you can take it on and off without installation." He hands the augment to you. "Thanks." You've arrived at the location Ron gave you. "You're sure you'll be fine alone, Talos?" Kyle asks you. You simply nod to Kyle and go forth. It's do or die time. You hear a faint buzzing in your ear. "Talos, it's Kyle. Is the radio aug working?" He says. "Yeah." "Fuckin' A. This inn is called the Grand Lounge. Lots of uppity rich folk stay here. These harvesters must be pretty well off to afford setting up shop at the top floor." Kyle notes. You twitch. The thought of people making such a profit off of harvesting is rage-educing. But you have to stay calm for this. The front door to the Lounge is guarded by an augmented thug, and you can see a basement that's unguarded. It's most likely locked up tight. Taking a deep breath, you prepare to infiltrate the building.

Upon entering the building, you hear the buzzing in your ear once more. "Great, you're in. Stay alert, I'm seeing some red on the map. Looks like two in the next room. Be careful." Kyle signs out again, leaving you with only your thoughts. You walk quietly through the hallway and stop at the door. If there are two people in there, avoiding confrontation is nigh impossible. You raise both of your arms as the sound of your handgun augments clicking open is heard throughout the elevators. "Justice," you utter, pulling both triggers. Click click, bang bang.

Both bodies fall to the floor, their weapons clattering against the ground as they do. You scoop the assault rifles they were armed with off the ground and equip them, one in each hand. You then stop the elevator at the fourteenth floor; one floor lower than the top.

"Nice work, Talos." Kyle says to you over radio. "But be careful. There's a LOT of red up on the next floor. At least eight bodies. Maybe more. Watch yourself." You take note of Kyle's advice and grab hold of your recently deceased foes. Dragging them partially out of the elevator, you make sure that they prevent the elevator door from closing. There'll be no running and no sending backup when you reach the top floor, you're making damn sure of it.

You carefully walk up the staircase with your weapons ready at a moment's notice. You don't see any cameras, but you're sure that if they see you, they'll react upstairs and Kyle will notify you. Eight enemies at once... You wonder if you can really take on that many people. You shake the doubt out of your mind-- if you think you can, you can. "I can."

You stand in front of the door to the penthouse. It seems that they still haven't detected your presence.

And we can take this opportunity to form a plan.

Like, what if we try to start a fire at one corner of floor 14, and when Baker and his thugs try to use the emergency stairs, we ambush them there?
>>
>>31091629
I like the idea of a diversion, but I was thinking...

>infiltrate penthouse room
>assassinate everyone before they know what the fuck is happening

I like this. Don't even need to start a fire. Just trip a smoke detector.
We're the tough gritty type, do we smoke? We might have a lighter on us.
>>
>>31091629
>fire
The one problem with this plan is that we're in a future city, so that means that if the fire alarm gets tripped, then the fire and police departments will be alerted and we won't have much time.
>>
Was going to vote for >>31091629 but >>31091742 makes a pretty good point.

My vote goes to the circuit breaker diversion.
>>
>>31091629
After typing my own, I like your plan better. Well, we don't need to start a fire when we could just pull a fire alarm. We might even be able to find one right beside us. Whatever we do, I want to catch them either in a chokepoint or from behind as they all try to get out of the building.

>>31091696
>>31091824
Those are typically in the basement. It would be a long walk to get to the highest floor from there.

You press your ear against the door of the penthouse. Before you finish this, you need to get some information. You might not be able to let someone live to interrogate.

"...on every street, in every bar, in every fucking NOOK AND CRANNY OF THIS CITY. Search EVERYWHERE for the little fucker."
"...Baker, calm down. It's just one guy."
"You don't fucking understand. We just got word from Raizer. Remember our harvesting warehouse just south of this shithole city? Wiped. Fucking. CLEAN."
"What do you mean, 'wiped clean', who could've wiped a whole fuckin' warehouse cl"
"Well, gee, Don. I don't fucking know. A warehouse full of our guys gets shat on, and the next day a mysterious stranger just HAPPENS to fucking blow into town and start killing our fucking guys? GEE, DON, WHO COULD IT HAVE FUCKING BEEN?!"
"Baker, calm down. You're making assumptions, you're not thinking straight. You got shot and you're pissed, we get it. But maybe we should think this through."
"Ron is dead. Rich is dead. Tony is dead. How many more FUCKING people will have to get killed before you see what's going on?!"

Baker continues ranting at his men about you for a while... You aren't finding any new information, but that Raizer name popped up again.

You back away from the door. It's finally time to make your appearance. Walking away from the penthouse entrance, you find a rather secluded hallway that leads to a janitor's closet. You dig around awhile until you find something you can use to start a distraction. You come across a can of paint thinner with the warning label "EXTREMELY FLAMMABLE" on it. "What the hell are you doing, Talos?" Kyle's voice buzzes in your ear. "Trust me." You say simply. You begin emptying out the paint thinner onto the floor. You then grab the broom from the closet and jab upwards at the large lightbulb on the ceiling.

You take cover as the sparks rain down onto the slick-coated floor. You find a nice hiding spot behind a potted plant in a corner. Now all you have to do is wait. The carpet bursts ablaze as the sparks connect with the flammable liquid, a roaring fire sprouting and beginning to consume everything around it. "What the hell is that?" You hear someone say from the penthouse. The door flies open. "FIRE!" Someone yells. The group rushes out into the hall to see the inferno raging. "Shit, SHIT! Get some water!" Someone orders. Baker runs back into the penthouse, presumably to get water.

You hear a transmission from Kyle coming in. "Talos, I'm seeing that there are seven people out in the hall. One is still inside, so you should wa-" "Perfect." You stand up and aim both assault rifles at your targets, pressing down on the triggers. You begin mowing down your enemies before they can pull their weapons. The injured fall down into the fire, screaming as the thinner gets on their body and they are consumed by the pyre. You continue firing rapidly. You can't stop. They're all on the ground, but you just can't stop. Your teeth begin clenching and your knuckles turn white from how hard you're pressing down on the triggers. All seven lay dead before you, and the only reason you've stopped firing is that you've run out of ammo.

"BAKEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEER!" You howl, throwing your spent guns to the ground and prepping your handgun augs. "He's running! He's trying to get out the fire escape!" Kyle transmits to you. "No fucking way." You hiss in response, sprinting into the room. You see Baker attempting to scurry out of the room and reach the fire escape, but you charge forward and tackle him to the ground. "Please, please don-" You interrupt Baker with a heavy punch straight to the mouth, but you make sure it's not strong enough to knock him out. He's not getting off that easy. You pin him to the ground and shove your left handgun against the side of his head. You have him right where you wanted him.

You're sorry that the ride is over. But that's okay. Because after we're done here, I'll make sure you're sorry. Because I'm about to put some things into perspective for you. For starters, let's show you how it feels... How it feels to have your augments carved off." You bring the jackknife over to Baker's arm and stick it under the metal, digging into his flesh. "Talos, what the hell are you doing?! The police are coming and that fire's still burning! You need to get out of there!" Kyle orders through the radio. "Not yet. Give me a minute." "You don't HAVE a minute. Ask him your questions and get the fuck out of there!"

"...Talos, he's up."
"About time."
"Should I go?"
"No. Stay. Take notes on everything he's saying. I won't really be listening too well." You approach the heavily augmented man in the dark of the cellar. Escaping from that burning building with a heavy cyborg in your arms was difficult... But you were determined. This piece of shit wouldn't be so lucky as to get such a pleasant death as burning. Kyle made a pretty great getaway driver. The basement of his apartment complex turned out to serve as a pretty great interrogation room, too. Now, it's time to make use of it.

"You... You son of a bitch," Baker spits. You approach the poor bastard, tied to a chair with Kyle's gun trained on his head in case shit went wrong. "Four days ago, you or one of your associates captured a cyborg. You sent that cyborg to the warehouse south of the city, and that cyborg was stripped of his augments and left to rot," you begin, pacing around Baker as you walk. "But that cyborg didn't give up. He fought hard, and he walked out of that warehouse alive. He was the only one to walk out." You can see Baker's uneasiness intensifying as you speak. "The cyborg was mad. VERY mad. The cyborg swore that he would find the low-life pieces of shit responsible for his harvesting, and make them pay." You lean in close to Baker, your faces mere inches apart. "Do you know who that cyborg was, Baker?" Baker remains silent, forcibly keeping his mouth shut. "You sure liked talking about him back in the penthouse... Why not talk about him now?" Baker looks to be on the verge of tears. "Come on, don't waste those. You'll need them soon enough. The fun part hasn't even started yet."

You plunge your knife inbetween the metal and flesh of Baker's shoulders. His screams do not deter you. You work efficiently, and you continue working until both of his arms are gone. "Now, I think it's time you answer some questions."

"Every transaction... And every trade... It all goes through him. He's got the whole of Cherol's black market under his thumb."
"And who does he answer to? Who's above him in the harvesting business?"
"I don't know. It's not my place to ask; I just find the people to harvest and handle security."
"Good job on security." You mutter sarcastically. "And the harvesters... How many of them are still on the streets?" Baker blows air through his nose in what you think is a weak attempt at expressing amusement through all the pain. "Too many for one man to count. Too many for one to kill." He says weakly. You notice the amount that he's bleeding. Shit, he'll die soon. He'll bleed out. "And the other warehouses? What other chop shops, where are they?!"
"I just know the one down south... And the one under the nightclub." He's beginning to sound weaker by the moment.
"Nightclub? Which nightclub?" Baker looks up at you. "You've stepped into something bigger than you could've imagined. You're a part of it now." "I don't care. "Tell me what the night club is called, or you die." "I'm dying already. Let me do it in peace."

You flip your jackknife out once more. "Why should a man who's done nothing but bring pain and suffering to others die a peaceful death? What kind of fucked up world do you think we live in where that's okay?" You ask, pressing it into the man's chest. "I know what I've done. I've made mistakes, and I-" "You're goddamn right you've made fucking mistakes."

You slide the blade up across Baker's throat, then finish him off by slitting the underside of his jaw and forcing his head backwards. Baker begins coughing and gagging violently, choking to death on his own blood. "I- I- I thought you were... Supposed to b- Be... Some sort of... Hero..." Baker hacks out violently. "I am. I'm just not yours."

"Why did you do that to him?" Kyle asks. "I had to. For everyone who suffered because of him. Myself included." You reply, wiping the blood off of your jackknife. "The info we got out of him wasn't even that great. We only know the treasurer and that some nightclub is a harvesting facility... We don't even know which one." "No. This was a perfect lead." You say, flipping the knife shut. "How?"

You look at the crimson-coated carcass sitting limp on the chair. "Because if every trade and transaction goes through Raizer..." A grin crosses your face. "He knows where my augments are."
