Your name is Mildred and you are a witch; a full blooded broom flying, potion making, spell casting witch. Well sort of, you would be one if your master hadn't gone and ditched you, so technically you’re just an apprentice witch for the moment and fairly young as well, Sixteen years-old.

In a day and age where the control of the Imperial church goes unchecked being in the witch craft business is risky work, but that doesn’t bother you much. This is what you would like to say but due to your rotten luck life can’t be that easy. Arriving in the port town of Byhollow you soon met a girl around your age by the name of Tamzen Jenny. After saving her from a rowdy Paladin she was accused of witchcraft and hauled to jail. Not wanting your new friend to become extra crispy you sprung her from jail and escaped with the help of some of Tamzen’s alchemy fire.

After de-arrowing the cart you stole and driving for almost a day you come across a fork in the road, in the middle is a sign post with two signs on it.

The one pointing to the right says. “Bordesly”

The one pointing to the left says. “Sheffield forest”

Turning to you Tamzen asks. “Which way do you want to go?”

>Right
>Left

Current Inventory:
1 ornate dagger
2 potions of healing
3 scrolls of Great fireball
1 scroll of thunderstorm
1 scroll of waterbreath
30 silver coins
2 bottles of alchemy fire

List of current know spells (because some asked last thread):
Unlock (allows you to open almost any lock without a key)
Lesser fireball (Basic combat spell)
Charm (Charm other people, must be done through eye contact or touch)
Make potion of healing (This takes time and ingredients)

The forest. It may be more dangerous, bandits and such, but the town'll be looking for us.
>>

Let's go to the forest. Maybe we can get some ingredients for Tam
>>

Eh, sounds like a cool place.

Thinking you say. "We should avoid heavly populated areas for now, the forest may be a little more dangerous in some ways but it should be safer in others."

Tam frowns. "I understand but the forest is just so.... creepy"

Patting her on the back you say. "Don't worry, I've got your back plus you might be able to find some supplies for your Alchemy in there" This causes her to perk up a little but she still looks uneasy.

turning the cart to the left you head into the forest. Soon the sky is hidden from your sight by great trees, the forest gives you an strange feeling but it seems to be ok. Not long after you enter you come across a broken cart with a man and young boy standing by it. The man turns and waves at you.

Looking at the sight you worry. "Maybe we should pass them"

Frowning Tamzen looks at you. "What are you talking about, we have to help them"

Sign, fine "But I swear if this is a trap...". Pulling up to the cart you ask "What seems to be the problem?"

Smiling the man says "Thank you, it looks like our wheel came off, do you mind helping me reattach it?"

Eagerly Tamzen jumps off and walks towards the cart, signing you do the same. After a while of effort you finally manage to put the wheel back. Wiping your brow you turn to go until you hear "Well, well, well what do we here?"

Standing infront of your cart are three men with swords drawn. The man you helped turns pale and stammpers out "We..we did what you wanted so let us go"

One man, maybe their learder scraches his chin "Well it doesn't seem that they have much but they are a couple of pretty young galls, I guess you can go"

With that the man grabs the boy and runs

The leader syas. "Well now what to do with you?"

"I FUCKING TOLD YOU SO". With that you unslip your dagger from your belt and leap at the closest man, burying your dagger deep into the poor man's neck blood pours out. The other men are left in a state of surprise but that quickly wears off as you swing at them.

Standing there squaring off against the men you suddenly drop your guard and raise your hand, pointing behind the men you a look of horror. You yell "WHAT IN THE BLOODY HELL IS THAT THING"

Quickly looking behind them the bandits see nothing, as they turn you're alreay on the one next to the leader, punching him in the throat and leaving your dagger stuck into his eye. As the men falls to the floor screaming in agony the leader swings at you, you block the blow and let in glance off. As he trys to recover you swip at his arm causing him to drop his blade. He stands there dumbfound and smile spreads to his face "What you gonna do kill m..."

Before he can finish the sentence you kick him squarely in the nats. Dropping to floor the man rolls in pain and holds his privates.

The scrolls work in a one pop deal. They don't have the method of the spell on them, you just activate the scroll, and boom.

Crying slighty the man says. "N..no there are more of us in the woods"

"HOW MANY"

"Like 15 or so, we we're just a scouting party sent out"

"WHERE'S YOUR CAMP"

"In the woods, near a waterfal, I swear, that's all I can tell you, I swear to god"

Yelling even louder you say "SWEAR TO ME"

Dropping the man he begins to cry, wow you're actually pretty good at this.

Grabbing the man and some rope you bind his hands and feet, putting a gag on him as the finishing touch you toss him into the back of your cart.

"What are we going to do with him" asks Tamzen

"When we get to the next town we're going to hand him over to the guards"

Walking over to the two bodies you grab one of their swords and toss it to Tam. "Here, use it to defened yourself"

"O..ok but I've never swung a sword before"

Sighing you say. "Well you're just going to have to try"

Looking over the men you find 17 silver coins in total and a map of the forest. It says that there are three exists to the forest, the one you just came from, one to the east, and one to the north

As you speed along the forest eventually recedes and turns back into the dirt road you were on, soon you see the sign come into view and you turn down the path leading into the town. As you draw closer you see farms and small buildings come into sight, hmm dainty place.

Soon you make it to the centre of the small town and stop outside the guard house. Dragging the bandit inside the guard sitting at a table looks up with confusion.

"What's this all about?"

"Oh nothing, I was just dropping off some trash I picked up"

The guard looks the bandit up and down "Hmm from the forest bandits I guess, been getting a lot of issues from these jerks, thanks for the help"

Walking over and grabbing the man the guard hands you a small purse of coins. Nodding you leave. Now that that's over what to do?

Walking next to a man standing and listening you ask. "What's he going on about?"

Shrugging the man says. "At that big city close by they had a witch escape" Darn, you were hoping news wouldn't have gotten this far, guess you'll have to keep Tam close.

The man turns to you and grins "but that witch would have to be mad to come here"

you are right, changing my vote from riding in silence to talking.

Talking is better.

If they ask about our wagon and wares, we should say there was this girl alchemist with a man someplace back who sold it to us cheap. She seemed really nice and like she was in a hurry somehow. She said something about how she's closing down shop and just needed to move on with her life. Maybe we can use the church story we used to get on the ship if they ask what our motives were for traveling.
>>

>Talk to the guards/silence

Driving the cart up the road you are too afraid to make a peep as the steel giant sits in the back. You only hope that no one will notice how much you're sweating right now. The lead guard looks over to you. "So why don't you tell us about yourselves"

Slightly shocked by this you say. "Oh, well I'm a student of the church and I was just travelling with my cousin here"

"Huh where you from?"

"Oh just a town near Byhollow, ummm can I ask, why is the town Paladin coming with this raid"

The Paladin looks up slightly "There was reports of a magic user in the bandit camp, I'm here to deal with it"

"Oh....." The rest of ride is quite. Finally you stop at the place where you left the dead bandits, some small animals have already started to pick at them.

End of the cart everyone stands around the Captain "Ok, here's the game plan, we're going to split up into two groups, some with me and the others with the Paladin, oh ladies who would you like to go with?"

Well we have alchemical stuff on us right now. The point is that IF they ask about it we say we got it off of this alchemist someplace back and make them think Tamzen is someplace else. If they ask us what they looked like we should just make a show of having trouble remembering it like a charm or suggestion that was put on us.

We DONT want them to ask "what are you do with this magical stuff" and have to go "oh uhhh... it's not magical, trust us, we're alchemists!" and immediately become suspicious.

Patting you on the head the captain smiles "Don't worry little miss, I'll keep you safe" raising his arm he flexes a little "These bandits got nothing on me"

You looking over the fight, you can see that you've clearly won. Most of the bandits are dead already and only one left is currently get it's head bashed in by the Captain.

Finishing up his work he stands and grins at you "See kid, I told you you had it in you"

The casualties weren't that bad, only two of your group are dead leaving you with seven. Pushing on you hear more rustling in the bush and your group prepares themselves, out from the trees comes the blood covered Paladin and his group. You're not sure which is scarier, the bandits or him. After a while you hear the rushing of a waterfall and poking your head over small hill you see a fort constructed from wood right beside it. Everyone gathers around the Captain "Ok here's the game plan..."

>>

That's a good point. If our numbers are even, I'd be more willing to charge. Though maybe the rest of the group should charge, while we sneak around to deal with the Mage.
>>
>>31090899
You killed six of them in your fight but you don't know how many the Paladin killed, the best guess is around 7 plus the magic user (If there is one) btw your team numbers 8 plus the Paladin (I should state that next time we're in a situation like this)
>>
Rolled 89

>>31090927
We dispatched 6 of them. So now it's a 7v9.
>>
>>31090957
In that case it's a 9v8 now (assuming our interrogated bandit did not lie), so charging seems like the way to go.
>>
>>31090957
Right then. Let's charge, and see if we can slip to the spellcaster in the back.
I swear to god, if it's our master...
>>
>>31091037
I don't care if it is. We don't have a choice right now, charging is better and we should leave the caster to the paladin.
>>
>>31090812

The Captain looks over the hill then back to you "Ok team, here's the game plan. That fort looks like there's only one way in, the front gate. So we are gonna fan out and take the-"

Before he can finish the sentence the Paladin stands up, you all stop to look at him. "Don't worry, I'll fix it" With that he turns and runs straight at the gate knocking it over and rushing inside. For in the fort you hear "WHAT THE HELL IS THAT" before it's silenced.

The Captain blinks "Or we can do that"

Following the Paladin you enter the fort and engage, there eight bandits and two of them stand in the back shooting arrows

>Engage archers (42)

Running through the fight you go striate for the archers, hey if it an't broken. However before you make it there you are shoved from behind and land on your stomach, rolling over you see Tam sitting down next to you.

"Really?" you ask

"Hey I'm an Alchemist not a fighter"

Getting back to your feet you barely dodge a swing from the bandit that knocked Tam down. Suddenly the Captain leaps behind you taking an arrow to the shoulder.

"CAPTAIN" you scream, anger welling up inside you, you turn to face your attacker. "You have two seconds to run before I kill you"

The bandit pauses for a second "Ya right bitch like you ca-" Before he can say anything else you fling soe dirt into his eyes. Waving his sword wildly he yell "YOU LITTLE BRAT, DO YOU HAVE NO HONOUR"

"No" running at the blinded man you dodge his swings and deliver a swift kick into his balls. Bending over in pain he drops his weapon, grabbing his head you give it a sharp turn and snap his neck. After the dead falls to the floor you run to the Captain.

"Captain, are you ok?"

Grunting the Captain sits up "Yes, yes I'm ok, next time watch your back"

Picking him up you yell "Tam, help me with him"

Both of you carry him through the fight to the gate and sit him down. Holding on to his shoulder you pull the arrow out, handing him a potion of healing you say "here drink this"

After the potion is empty his wound is almost completely healed. "I'll be fine in a little bit, just let me rest, finish the fight"

The fight seems to be going your way as one of the archers has been slain and two other bandits are dead.

Leaving the Captain in the care of Tam you rush back out into the fight. Avoiding the small clashes all around you, you aim straight for the archer that's left as he sees you coming he drops his bow and draws his sword. As you come in for a swing he blocks your attack and tires to strike back, you manage to dodge the blow. Now staring at each other you begin to circle slowly until there's a flash of steel from behind the bandit. As he splits in two you see the Paladin standing there.

"The battlefield is no place for a woman, treat the wounded"

"Hey I was doing fine without your help you big jerk"

"Whatever, it's your funeral"

Suddenly you here someone shout "FEUER". A fireball races towards the crowd and strikes a guard setting him ablaze.

>A BATTLE MAGE HAS ENTERED THE FIGHT

Seeing this all your forces run to cover. The Mage laughs "That's right fools, run from me, RUN"

Looking over to the Paladin you yell "TAKE CARE OF HIM"

The Paladin starts to shake "I... I can't, he's going to roast me"

"What are you talking about, I thought you've already killed witches before"

"Those weren't real witches, they were just random people"

You think to yourself, typical. Sigh you're the only one here who deal with him. On the ground next to you something catches your eye, it's the bow that archer threw down to fight you. Now how are you going to stop this Jerk

Scrambling to the bow you pick it up and fiddle with it, god damn it why did you never touch one of these before, your going to fix that but for now you need to take care of this guy. Notching an arrow you pop out of cover just avoiding a fireball and let it fly, your arrow lands squarely in the mage's shoulder and he screams in pain. Looking around you see lightning and fire flying everywhere, guards cowering behind cover, and the Paladin pissing himself. Ok no, you're not going out like this. Hoping over the cover you run right at the mage, hearing the captain yell "NO, GET BACK HERE" Fat chance.

As you catch the mage's attention he laughs "Is this the only one that dares to face me? Pathetic, come time to die little on-" before he finishes you deliver a swift roundhouse kick to his face.

Holding his check he gazes at you "Ho-How is this possible".

Looking down at him you say "This is the part where you run"

With a look a pure horror he tries to scrammble and run away but you're already on him. Plunging your dagger deep into his throat he gurgles his last words.

>Congratulations Battle mage is defeated
>you absorb his essence with can be used to learn new spells if you have the spell book

You call Tam over and tell the group you'll take the mage's room. You get a couple weird looks but most of them just think that you're taking it for the rare artefacts he might have.

Walking into the building where the mage came from you find a long hall with a couple of doors on each side, sensing a magical energy coming from one of the rooms you head there.

Entering you see a scene of complete chaos. Paper clutter is everyone, with bits and bobbles all over the place, Tam stares in awe of everything. "IS THAT ELFEAR, WAIT THAT'S FOXTAIL, THIS STUFF IS ILLEGAL AND SUPER COOL"

Sigh Alchemists, what can you do. In the conner of the room you notice a box that's locked, after opening it you find a few scrolls and a tome

Gain:
1 Scroll of wind-blade
1 Scroll of flight
2 Scrolls of Invisibility
1 tome of force push

Putting the stuff in your sack, you look to see if you can take anything else

After that's done you head outside and meet the group. "You find anything interesting?" the Captain asks.

As you walk over to the Paladin he's sitting down and sipping from his water-skin. You plop next to him and say "Yeah, so did you see how I took that mage the fuck out, or were you too busy pissing yourself like a little bitch? Wanna repeat what you said about women and the battlefield"

Looking at you he replys "I will retract what I said to you, clearly you are a worthy warrior". He goes back to sipping his water.

"Oh by the way, what was that about burning random woman?"

Spitting he stands "YOU OVER STEP YOUR BOUNDS WENCH, YOU MAY BE STRONG BUT I WILL NOT TAKE AN INSULT TO MY HONOUR"

However before he can reach for his sword he's hit over the head by someone from behind. Standing there is the Captain.

"Don't worry little miss, I heard the whole thing. This jerk is going to be striped of his rank and throw in jail and there an't a damn thing the church can do about it, man I really hate those guys"

Smiling you say. "Ya, me too sometimes"

Eventually all the guards get their share and head out, before leaving the Captain sets fire to the camp. After loading the knocked out Paladin and the group into the cart you all head back into town. Once there the Captain thanks you once again for all your help. Say goodbye, you and Tam start your journey again heading north.

Well that's it folks, I have to get some shuteye
