You are a broken cyborg on a mission to reclaim his stolen parts, and enact revenge on the harvesters who took them.

Archive: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=Broken%20Cyborg%20Quest
Twitter for updates: https://twitter.com/ReanimatorTG
Character sheet: http://pastebin.com/Eg3hb16i

Last time on Broken Cyborg Quest, we infiltrated the Grand Lounge hotel to assassinate Baker's gang, and beat some info out of Baker. Though you got a little carried away with your interrogation methods, you learned a lot about a man called Mr. Raizer- he just may be the person you need to get to in order to find where the rest of your parts went.

You exit the basement, blood coating your metallic hands. You've calmed down substantially now that Baker's dead. "Talos, that was... That was brutal, man." Kyle says to you, looking worried. "Thank you," you reply. "It wasn't a compliment. You need to calm down next time, we can't get lost in the moment and waste information." He says sternly. "You're right. I'll... Hold back next time." You're not actually sure if you can. Something about being in the same room as a harvester just makes your blood boil. And when they're completely at your mercy... It's difficult for you not to go berserk. "Well, at least you didn't pull any teeth this time." Kyle notes. "Oh, right." You turn around and begin walking back to the room to- "NO. No more. He's dead, let's just get rid of him and move on." "Right. Of course." The two of you depart to dispose of the body in the usual fashion.

...
...
...

Kyle wipes his hands on his shirt as he steps out from the manhole. "I tell ya, you just don't get used to that smell..." He says, placing the lid back on the sewer's entry point. "So, Talos. Do you have a place to stay for the night?"
"I've been staying at the inn."
"Bah, that place overcharges. Why not just stay at my place until you can afford your own?" Kyle suggests generously.

>"Sure."
>"I'm fine at the inn."
>Custom
>>
>>31098125
Stay with Kyle, the inn is expensive as fuck and we don't have a lot of cash as is.
>>
>>31098125
Shit, when you said you'd start earlier, you meant it.
>Sure, but offer to compensate him for it. And for the help.
Also, I'd like to suggest running good cop bad cop on these guys. Kyle tries to get information, sets us on them for, like, 30 seconds, and then he walks back in with the threat of "that lunatic"
>>
>>31098125

"sure"

while we are there we can look up Ron's adress from a phone book or his social profile page
>>
>>31098224

also, check the ews for "pawn shop murder" "back alley massacre" "Penthouse bloodbath" and "An increasingly number of bodies are being found in the sewer systems"

>>31098224
>Sure: 3

"Sure," you reply, accepting Kyle's offer. "But I'd feel bad staying for nothing." "Bah, don't worry about it. I can't take money from you. Just pull your weight and clean up any mess that you leave." He insists. You nod. "Alright, then." The two of you return to Kyle's apartment complex.

...
...
...

It's morning. You slept comfortably, but you don't feel as well rested as you did the night before. Probably because of all the shit that happened yesterday. You also slept on a couch instead of a bed, so that might've contributed. You can still hear Kyle snoring in his own room, and you don't think it polite to wake him. You stand up and stretch, then grab your bag and prepare for your day.

You're sitting on some pretty solid leads right now; you know the names of three possible black market contacts, the name of the treasurer of Cherol's harvesting business, and you know that there's a chop shop under a nightclub somewhere in town. You grab a large phone book off of the kitchen table and flip it open.

>Search for the last name Raizer

Search for Ron, we should get his family the money. Then let's look into some of the business card contacts and Raizer.

Search for Ron. We told him his family'd get the money.
>>
>>31098290
Ron first, others second. Then go out on the town with the information you've found. We should also buy a newspaper or something to see how many of our exploits went off stealthily, and how many made the headlines.
>>
>>31098357
>We should also buy a newspaper
We've got a radio augment now; why not check the planetary datalinks instead?

>Search for Ron: 5
>Check the news: 2

You flip to the "P" section, searching for a "Parker, Ronald". It doesn't take you long to find a name and a phone number. Not too far from it, you find another name. "Parker, Tara." The phone number and address is the same. Looks like you've got a trip to make. You use your photo augment to snap a picture of the address. You then begin searching for a "Raizer"... But nothing comes up. Clever bastard is operating under a fake name. You manage to find one of the business card contacts as well. The Kelso guy doesn't turn up, just like Raizer. You already know Roth's address, so looking for his would be a waste of time. But at least you know where the lawyer is based. You snap a picture once more. Time to head out. As you leave the apartment, you use your radio augment to flip on the news.

We go to deliver the money to Ron's wife, then leave the inner city. Let's sell off all of Baker's augs that aren't of use to us, and get his speed augments installed.

We harvest Baker so we can have something to offer\bait the black market dealers but we don't install his filthy augs...they are not ours and we ain't no harvesters

But we make sure that we're not seen, and we only slide the money in an envelope under the door.

Maybe a simple, "From Ron".
>>
>>31098619
>but we don't install his filthy augs
I'd disagree, but he had that speed aug and we killed him. It can't be too good if someone without the augment can catch him and beat the shit out of him.

No, then she may think he's alive. Don't want to raise her hopes.

You grab an envelope and pen off the table as you exit the apartment. Time to make your promised delivery. The radio tunes in, playing the morning news broadcast as you walk.

"...and that's why you won't catch this reporter heading to the inner city at nighttime. Another disappearance has been confirmed, suggesting that the disappearance of local shop owner Rich Hayward may have been some sort of criminal activity. Ronald Parker, a local inner city resident, has failed to come home or answer his phone for over twenty hour hours, prompting a police investigation into both disappearances. When reached for comment, Frank Edison, chief of Cherol City police, said that no substantial leads have been found in investigation."

You smile a little at the news. Looks like you're alright for now.

"But in more shocking news... Last night, an unidentified assailant set fire to the penthouse floor of the Grand Lounge hotel, then proceeded to gun down everyone present. Police investigation confirmed that the victims were-"

Your smile spreads as you prepare to hear the news; "Augmented thugs killed at Grand Lounge; Justice is Served". That'd make a nice headline.

"-a group of entrepreneurs passing through town. The men were unarmed, unaugmented, and completely defenseless against the maniac's savage assault. Smoke was present in their lungs before they died, suggesting that the fire was set before..."

What? WHAT? You know for a fact that they were armed to the teeth and sporting high quality augments. "They've got the media under their thumb..." You mutter to yourself angrily. You are now faced with the very real possibility of the harvesters waging a propaganda war against you.

You arrive in front of Ron's apartment complex. There's a slot for mail to be dropped in, with the room number specified on each mailbox. Time to pay up what you promised.

You hate them more than anything. But their families don't deserve to suffer for the failings of one member. You hope Tara spends the money well.

It can be used to display personal data such as our health, money, etc. It can also store and present information. IE, we took pictures with our optical photo augment earlier. We can pull them up and look at them through the AR interface. Later upgrades will allow for it to do even more.

We should consider that the mechanic could just be a false lead.
Like, the mechanic gave Rich his business card because he didn't know of Rich's Harvester connections, and Rich kept it around because hey, his customers buy augs and he needs to direct them to someone who can install them.

"Bacon and eggs," you order. "And steak." "Anything to drink?" "Coffee." "Cream and su-?" "Black." "Right on it." The waitress takes your menu and walks away. As you wait, you look out the window and watch the mechanic's shop. Nobody seems to be going in or out. "Here's your coffee." The waitress says, putting it down on the table. "Thanks." You don't turn to face the waitress as you thank her, keeping your eyes on the mechanic's shop.

Your food arrives after a ten minute wait or so. "Here you go. Bacon and eggs. And steak." She says, putting the plate down on the table. "Careful, it's-" Before she can finish speaking, you tear into your food viciously. "...Hot." You don't seem to mind the heat. You're way too hungry to care about heat. "I appreciate it. I'll take the check now." You say, turning back to look at the mechanic's store. "R-right! I'll get it for you right away!" The waitress says, scurrying off. From what you've heard, Roth makes trips to the bad part of town every so often. If Roth is in, you'll come back on another day to follow him into town. If not, maybe you could try asking the kid something that'd lead you to him in the town. "Here you go!" The waitress says, handing you the check. "Only... 25 credits? But bacon and eggs were 20, and the steak was 10 by itself. And that's not even including the coffee." You say, raising an eyebrow at the price. "We, um... We had a combo deal for today." She says, smiling. You fish through your pocket and drop 55 credits on the table anyway. "Take care. And thank you." You say, standing up and walking away. "If you come back, ask for Julie!" She calls after you.

Your apparent "good mood" aura that you put on in the diner fades as you exit the vicinity. If there's even the smallest chance that this mechanic is involved with harvesters, you're taking this dead seriously. You walk up to the mechanic's shop and see the middle aged man at the counter. So he's in today. "Oh, it's you again. You come back for that speed augment?" "Maybe. I don't know." You reply.

Sell some of Baker's augs and ask about his current stock. No need to make him suspicious of us yet.

"I'll just buy something, I guess." You decide. You don't want him getting suspicious by bringing in Baker's augments. You'll just sell those somewhere else. He shows you the same augments he's had in stock recently... And they're all still out of your price range. "Guess I can't afford to get anything today, either." You sigh. "Well if you're all finished, then... I've got to be on my way. My niece can help you with anything else you need." Roth leaves the building. "Can I help with something, sir?" The girl asks.

"You sure it's safe for you to watch this place all by yourself?" You ask. The girl nods. "There's been a lot of crime going on lately... You've heard about it, right?" "Yeah. But Mister Roth says that I'll always be safe from the bad guys as long as he gets to go into town." She says, smiling. "...I see." You reply. You don't know exactly what she means by that, but you'll find out more later. "Anyway, my leg has been giving me trouble lately. Could you look at it?" "Okay!" She gestures for you to go back to the operating room, and you follow. As she begins taking a look at your leg, you figure now would be a good time to ask some more questions.

"How'd you learn the trade? Your uncle Roth teach you?" You ask. She nods. "Yeah! He taught me all about it. It's fun." "And how's business lately?" "It's good. Sometimes a bunch of big cyborgs come in and buy a whole lot of stuff!" She looks excited, but then she frowns. "But... They keep saying they're going to pay for them later and they never do. I don't know why uncle doesn't make them pay for it." You're beginning to piece everything together. It seems like this mechanic isn't exactly a willing party in this harvesting business. "And have you heard about those harvester guys? Pretty scary, right?" You ask. "Right." A voice answers that certainly does NOT belong to the girl. You see throngs of harvesters pouring into the building, all of them heavily armed and heavily augmented. "See, I told you he comes here often! Now keep your end of the bargain." Roth says to one of the men. "Alright, alright. We'll leave your shop alone. As long as we get this guy, I couldn't care less about your shitty little scrapyard." One of the harvesters says, grinning as he walks toward you. You get to your feet and prepare a fighting stance, but you get the feeling that there are just too many to fight right now. "Uncle Roth... What's going on?" The child asks, still standing next to you amidst all of the harvesters. "Nothing, Abby. Come here, we're going to go now." Roth says, beckoning for the girl to follow. "You're going to let them kill this man... Aren't you?" She asks, frowning. "Abby, that's not important! Come with me now!" Roth orders. Abby stands in front of you, spreading her arms. "NO! You're not killing anybody! Killing is BAD!" She yells.

You hurl the table at the harvesters and make a break for the next room, slamming the door behind you. "Kyle, get over here! Kyle, are you there?!" You transmit through the radio. You hear nothing but snoring from the other end. "FUCKING SHIT, TYLER." You point your weapons at the door and wait for the first poor bastard to go through. It doesn't take long for someone to take the bait; you place a bullet between his eyes. You snatch his weapon from the ground, a shotgun. You press your ear to the door and listen to them. "You go around through the window, and I'll go through the door on your signal." That'd be a good plan if you didn't overhear it. Dropping your shotgun and awaiting the sound of the doors opening, you position yourself in the middle of the room with one gun trained on each door. As the doors open you fire, taking out your enemy on each side. Then you grab your shot gun and cock it back. The last harvester is inside the operating room alone.

You put your enhanced reflexes to the maximum, prepared to counter whatever pitiful attempt at a sneak attack could be waiting for you behind this door. You grab the carcass of the most recently deceased and hurl him through the doorway. You hear a quick succession of gunshots; apparently the last guy is panicking. While he's still confused by the body, you bust through, cocking back your shotgun and letting it rip immediately. The man had holed himself up behind the operating table, which soaked the bullets up. "Come on, now... Let's not ruin the table. We're making good use of it soon!" You taunt, stomping forward as the familiar grin that you seem to gain when in combat spreads on your face. "S-stay back! I've been i-instructed to kill you if I have to!" The man cries out. "Oh? Then you'd better do it." You say, grabbing the operating table and throwing it aside with one arm as you train your gun on the man with your other. You see him cowered in fear, unable to fight back. "B-B-BASSETT! THE OPERATION'S FUCKED, BAIL ME!" The man screams. You grab him by the throat and lift him up, "Who did you just contact? You'd better tell me, or I don't think I'll be able to CONTROL MYSELF." You bark, tightening your grip as your grin intensifies. "B-BA... BASSETT! P... PLEASE!" He chokes out. "WHO IS BASSETT?!" You yell, the man's face beginning to turn purple. You hear something whirring behind you.

You instinctively roll to the side and away from the doorway, the poor harvester still in your grip. A torrent of rapid gunshots soon follows, tearing the cupboard that was behind you to piece and sending medical supplies and tools scattering to the floor. "I'm Bassett." A low and gravelly voice answers.

A man donning a poncho and a large cowboy hat stands in the doorway. He's holding a minigun... With one hand? No-- His hand IS the minigun. "You must be the man they call 'The Dentist'. I'm here to kill you."

You get to your feet and lift the still dangling harvester into the air along with you. "So they finally wised up and stopped throwing these limp bodies at me, then? Good. It was getting too easy." You say, still slightly crazed from the bloodshed. "If you've got a superior present, I suppose you've outlived your userfulness. Sorry." You say to the suffocating harvester in your grasp. You tighten your grip to a climax, separating the man's head from his neck with a sickening crack and pop. "I've never heard that name before... 'The Dentist'. But I'm not complaining. Wanna see how I got it?" You ask, cackling to yourself as you stare at the man before you. "You're disgusting." He replies simply, his gun beginning to whir again. Escape doesn't even begin to cross our mind. You want this man's blood. You're going to BATHE in it.

As you run forward, you dip to the ground and grab the arm of the body you just beheaded and hurl it at your new adversary. It's promptly shredded in midair, turning into a blood fountain and staining half the room red. It didn't hit him, but it did his job; it distracted him. You close the distance quickly and grin as you enter melee range. "IT'S OVER!" You yell, throwing a punch at the man. Somehow, the man's reflexes are good enough to block your punch with his unarmed hand. He grabs your arm to hold you in place, taking you be surprise. "I expected more from you," Bassett says as he aims his gun at your head. You quickly shake your surprise at the grab and lean downwards, taking a powerful sweep kick at the man's legs. His gun goes off as he falls, sending the rain of bullets into the ceiling and walls instead of into your head. "Likewise," you say, preparing a punch so potent it could send him through the floor. Before it collides, he kicks directly upwards, a fine leather boot connecting with your jaw. You stagger backwards and your back hits the wall as the man stands. Just as you're about to charge Bassett, he takes you by surprise... He charges YOU. Bassett engages you in hand to hand combat, landing a straight punch to your face followed by a left cross. You hit back, but he once again blocks. He jabs his knee outward, and it connects with your gut. Are you... Losing? "NO WAY." You shriek. Somehow, you begin to feel a connection to a vast amount of energy. Your anger, your lust for vengeance, your determination to see this man bleed... They all combine and swirl in your mind to create something powerful. And god damn if you won't use it.

You launch a punch with all your might, sending Bassett flying into the wall. It cracks, but doesn't break. Bassett staggers to his feet and takes aim again.

"You're not half bad after all, Dentist." Bassett says, wiping the blood from his face with his sleeve. You say nothing. Your mind exists between a state somewhere between primal rage and pure ecstasy. The conflicting emotions are driving you into a frenzy, and you can't even think clearly. You hear a buzzing in your ear, but you can't even hear what's being said. Your grin spreads and fluctuates, faltering and rising again and again as you stare into your assassin's face. You charge forward, a guttural battlecry the only thing you say. Your fists clash again and again, over and over. You have Bassett on the defensive. You're going to win. You're now pounding viciously away at Bassett's face, laughing madly as you do so. You're so engrossed in your beating that you don't even notice the wetness spreading across your torso. You don't even hear the sound of the gunshots. You don't even notice your left arm being ripped to shreds by the minigun. Then, you hear a loud crash. A car just went through the wall. It collides with you, blasting you across the room. "Bassett, you've got to go!" Someone yells from the drivers' seat. The minigun assailant runs to the car, flinging open the passenger seat. "Until we meet again, Dentist." He calls after you, the car speeding away and disappearing. You're beginning to feel the pain as your emotions stabilize. You soon see another car coming into view; Kyle's. "Holy shit! What the fuck HAPPENED here?" Kyle asks, getting out of the car to help you up. "I... I won." You say simply, a stupid grin crossing your face. "You're wounded, quit fucking grinning like an idiot and get in the car." He barks. "Wait... I have to apologize." You mutter. "What?" "The house... The damage." You reply.

The two of you drive away back into the inner city, a small paper note resting among the rubble.

"Sorry about the mess."

The longer this quest runs, the more it's like an arc of Trigun.

Your eyes flutter open after a long time of unconsciousness. You groan and rub your head. "Talos, are you up?" Kyle asks. You appear to be in a bed in Kyle's apartment. You notice that the sheets are stained partially red. You remember that your arm was broken, and that you were shot in the chest. You see your chest is heavily bandaged and your arm... Is fine? You do a double take, and upon closer inspection you see that this arm isn't yours. It's the left arm you took off of Baker. "Sorry, I know you're not a fan of harvesting for personal gain... But the mechanic's still fixing your other arm. You'll have to wear this one in the meantime." Kyle explains. "What? What mechanic? You mean-" "Yeah. Roth." "But why? I totaled his house." You wonder if that little apology note really had such a profound effect. It was kind of half assed, but... "It was my fault that you were injured in the first place." A second voice says. Roth steps into the room. "If I hadn't sold you, you'd never have gotten injured. It was a terrible mistake. This was... The least I could to do to make things up to you." He explains, sounding ashamed of his actions. This guy basically hospitalized you, and now he's fixed you back up. "I don't expect you to forgive me, but... I apologize for my actions."

Whatever answer we give, follow it up by asking if he'd like to help us stop the harvesters from being a problem for anyone, ever again.

"I won't forgive you," you reply, making direct eye contact with the man. "I can't forgive you." The mechanic looks disheartened. "...But, I do understand why you did what you did. You sold out a complete stranger to protect your niece, who I can only imagine means a lot to you. I can't hold that against you. It's what anybody would do." You say, sighing. "But I will thank you for fixing me up. ...And I'm sorry I fucked up your operating room." Roth extends his hand for a handshake. Tentatively, you shake it. "By the way... That guy you fought. I got some info on the bastard. Apparently he's a hired gun who came to town just to kill you. He's got a serious reputation." Kyle says, scrolling through pictures of the mysterious gunman on his computer. Just the mention of that man makes you noticeably angry. You clench the metal bedpost, denting it badly. "You okay, there?" Kyle asks, hearing the sound of bending metal. "...Yes. Just a little out of my own head." You mutter. "Alright, man. By the way, your fight did attract some attention around town." Kyle says, closing the laptop. You sigh and rest your face in the palm of your hand. "God damn it." "I wouldn't take such a negative attitude toward it. Maybe you should take a look outside." Kyle approaches your bedside and pushes the blinds on the window aside. Outside of the apartment, you see a billboard with a picture of a happy augmented man, and next to it the caption "Cherol City; Progress and Equality". Someone vandalized the billboard, spraypainting it so that it looked like the man was missing several teeth and bleeding from the mouth. The town's slogan was crossed out and replaced with "DEATH TO HARVESTERS". "I guess some of the people around here heard rumors about a crazy sonofabitch called the Dentist who was striking back against the harvesters. I guess that gave them hope."

Roth chuckles. "So some lunatic with a penchant for tooth-pulling has become a hometown hero. Imagine that." He walks up next to your bedside as well. "Truth be told, I'm sick of the harvesters as well. If it weren't for them, you and I never even would've stood at odds. If they were gone, things would be different..." The old mechanic rambles to himself. "Then join me." You suggest. "Eh? What could an old windbag like me do to help?" "You're a mechanic. Keep me running smoothly, and I'll fight the harvesters." You say. You extend your hand to Roth. "Well, shit. Not like I've got anything better to do." He says, smiling. He accepts your handshake. The three of you stare out at the billboard as the sun set over the city of Cherol. "So, Talos... What's on tomorrow's agenda?" Kyle asks. "Isn't it obvious?" You ask, a smile spreading across your face. "I think that this city is due for some dentalwork."

[ Thanks for tuning in once again, guys. Same time tomorrow, if all goes well. ]

I hope this quest keeps coming. A lot of good quests suddenly drop off without warning. Don't do that to us, OP.
>>
>>31108954
if youre still around OP, how many threads are you planning to do for this quest? i'm hoping it turns out to be a long-runner, i'm enjoying it a lot.
>>
>>31109111
It'll be as many threads as it needs to be to reach an ending. That could be in fifty threads, or it could be in five. I don't know yet.
