It is the Year 22XX, and you are Ivan Parkas Kostov, a High Impact Public Representative of the StrikeOut Corporation. But nobody calls you that. To most people, you’re just another merc. Most of the time you get launched out of a Space Cruiser at high speeds in a pod of metal and toxic gel with the simple orders to fuck shit up as much as possible.Right now you’re deeply in debt, and are working to alleviate that situation. So far you’ve gone on four missions in your quest to alleviate the burden of debt-slavery.>Operation Ordinary RenditionYour first drop, and one of your more successful ones. You got bumped up a pay grade for your performance and kidnapped some Japanese scientists.>Operation Shattered MoonAnother resounding success, you managed to save dozens of asteroid miners held hostage by the nefarious Limited Liability Solutions, a front organization for organized crime on Earth. You also managed to kill the legendary Jamaican Giant Dreads with the aid of a fellow rookie, Tsukino Noriko.>Operation Bitter ProphetA deeply unsettling mission, and your first brush with failure. Sent down to investigate a gene therapy clinic that had gone silent, your squad found a horrific scene of slaughter. The staff dead and the patients horribly mutated, the mission cost you many nights of sleep and an arm. Your squad decided to retreat before they could discover how the clinic came to such a grim fate.>Operation Idol BashersYour most recent drop. Suggested by your well intentioned HR Advisor, Svenja Weiss, this drop was a light and easy battle against the theatric, but ultimately ineffectual, merc-idols of the SpaceHeart*Love Mil-Pop TV show. You have yet to receive your earnings for the mission, but you managed to snag three defeated merc-idols, the Himawari Force, for Basic Training as StrikeOut mercs.Master Pastebin:http://pastebin.com/nNU28gEATwitter:https://twitter.com/DickishDead
Alright droppies, I’m starting DAQ off a bit differently today. I’d like to preface this by saying that I am not mad or irritated in any way, but you need to know this. Let’s just say that Ivan hasn’t really been acting very… tactically, for want of a better word, during missions. Now I know that a lot of this is because I usually end up stringing together a bunch of anons suggestions when writing up the action sequence. This usually means that individually, the actions are intelligent and “tactical” but once strung together we’re left with something that’s probably less than could be desired. I did not envision the action sequence system working out like this. I thought that anons would be working on full action sequences, and then voting on them, and I would choose the most popular completed action sequence. This hasn’t really happened. Much of this is my fault for not making it clearer to you guys.Ideally, I’d like to see you guys present me with a full action sequence, rather than a bunch of individual actions to chain together for you from different people. For example, this is a rough approximation of what I’d like to see:>Ivan moves to cover behind nearest pillar>Provides covering fire with his AR while Cy moves to a pillar nearer the enemy>Working in tandem with Cy, Ivan pins down the enemy forces while Elda moves to a flanking position>Elda uses her sniper rifle to flush the enemy forces out of cover>When the enemy forces begin to fall back, hopefully in disarray, Ivan charges them>Ivan does some melee attacks.
Obviously, you can still write in cool melee attacks, and there will still be room for badass craziness and plans that are more awesome than smart. However, the reason I’m bringing this up is that the next mission will be the Stock Exchange Attack with Niels and Elda. You will learn more about the mission later in this thread, and will be making some decisions pertaining to it. The stock exchange attack, called Operation Capital Shock, will be your hardest mission yet. It won’t be a slog like Bitter Prophet, but you will be facing much tougher foes than previous threads. Ivan will need to be either smart or lucky in order for this mission to end without any fatalities. Since luck isn’t really our forte on missions, it means Ivan will have to be smart. I hope I’m not being a dick here, but the way the attacks are planned is going to have to change if you want this mission to go well. For my part, I’ll try to give you guys more information to work with so that you’ll have everything you’ll need to make tactically sound decisions.I’m starting the thread with this so that everyone will see this notification. I will also be fielding questions and discussion about this for like the next 30 to 35 minutes before we get on with the thread.
>>31104206>Ivan will need to be either smart or lucky in order for this mission to end without any fatalitieswell fuck, i know we can't count on Teejee dice at all.Time to git gud or die tryin
>each anon suggesting a whole action sequence>discussion about action sequences>possible merging of various action sequences, finalizing them>voting on final action sequenceI have a feeling this will hog down combat to somewhere between snail pace and frozen turd Fall Guy.And don't tell me you will try to speed it up.If you do, it will end up being the exact same clusterfuck it is now.I do not know how to get around this all though. The system also feels a bit untransparent to me as a whole. After we roll, you often end up writing something completely different due to the fact we failed one check, which fucks up the tactic we created.
>>31104397Indeed, we're gonna have to go MAXIMUM OPERATOR for this one.
>>31104186>hasn’t really been acting very… tactically, for want of a better word, during missions. Now I know that a lot of this is because I usually end up stringing together a bunch of anons suggestions when writing up the action sequence. >>31104206Fallguy i love you.It really shows how much you care not just about the quest, but also about the fact that we won't screw up/have a horrible time Might be mean to say this. But i wish have the QMs were like you. Keep up great work you magnifciant bastard
Another thing. We're goddamn CQC. When you put is in an open hallway or a giant room, our whole tactics go down the toilet. We need to train our assault rifle HARD before this mission.
>>31104604>But i wish *half
>>31104607We can get a shield, to help us get into a situation where we can shine.
>>31104604I'd like to second this.I've been criticizing the system here, but I like your quest as a whole very very much.
>>31104497I'm thinking action chains on the whole will become shorter, perhaps only three to four actions, and in turn updates will be faster as I will have less to write. As you said, the current system is a bit murky, since one failure has the potential to invalidate the entire Plan of Attack.>>31104525>Vote on style/intent followed by final voteYes, that's how the system would ideally work out.>>31104604Thank you anon>>31104607Yes, that has been a problem. I'll try to make sure the missions take place in a more cramped environment to enable CQC tactics.I'm also working on some gear Ivan can pick up that should help with the entire no cover, long distance, issue.
>>31104206You are a good guy fallguy. I just hope this doesn't discourage people from posting, since coming up with full sequences seems tougher than just tossing out an idea or 2.
>>31104682I want an extendable shield anchored to your revolver arm, which can be pulled out whenever [in pulled in form, it covers our arm]. It also hides our hand, but as it is on our arm, we can hold the revolver, tomahawk and shield all at once.Anyone else who can imagine this?
>>31104691Riot shield? Also you are one of the better QM's that i've seen
>>31104774One suggestion I've heard is that anons can toss out an individual idea or two, and have other anons collate those suggestions into an action plan.Since Action Sequences will be shorter form here on out, I hope that this will make it more accessible for anons to make suggestions.>>31104800Riot Shield confirmed>>31104780You might like this anon. I was bouncing some shield ideas around in the IRC earlier, and this is the result.http://pastebin.com/bkfhSERL
>>31104691>make sure the missions take place in a more cramped environmentDon't do this. The enviroment should not revolve around us, we should work around it.Just give us options, even if they are not visible at first.> perhaps only three to four actionsI like it.>>31104774I don't think so.We might have less sequences that are overall more consistent. Also it the prompt is to write them shorter in general, that helps a lot as well.
>>31104691Fall Guy, have you taken a look at the quest archives? 'cause you are easily the best QM I've had the pleasure of catching up with. Also, a riot shield would go a long way in making CQC viable for us.
>>31104604His dedication is certainly to be admired, friend anon!>>31104917>Also, a riot shield would go a long way in making CQC viable for us.Let's paint it.
>>31104691Suggestion:To alleviate the "1 bad roll = entire sequence fails" problem, would it be possible to just have 1 roll (pick the best out of the first 3 or something) determine how well the entire sequence goes?Meanwhile, if the 1st 3 rolls are all bad (i.e. Ivan's gonna fail), you, Fall Guy, can pick which action in the sequene fails and how, which gives you better control over the pacing of the action. So for example...Action sequence: 1) Flip over table and use it as cover, 2) Take potshots from over the table to suppress the enemy, 3) throw a flashbang, 4) charge in and axe some dudesPlayer rolls are: 15, 12, 6 (so shitty rolls)From there, you can pick how the sequence fails. Maybe Ivan trips as he tries to go for the table; maybe Ivan flips the table, but as he's peeking out of cover to suppress he gets winged; maybe he misses with the flashbang; maybe he does everything perfect but he drops his axe right as he's about to fuck someone up. The choice is up to you, which again gives you better control over the pacing and the plot.As it is, it's way to easy to fuck up on the rolls, since we not only have to roll well, we have to roll well 3 to 6 times in a row.
>>31104829>http://pastebin.com/bkfhSERLOh yeah.I don't see the folded riot shield impairing our two-handed weapons capability though. Not in its folded state at the very least.>an individual idea or two, and have other anons collate I rather like the other idea of shorter action sequences in general, which would shorten the combat posts as well.
>>31104829>>31104852Shorter sequences are probably a good idea. I do really like the action chain mechanic when it works but so often it seems we get a few crap rolls that sorta fuck longer chains.
>>31104691>>Vote on style/intent followed by final vote>Yes, that's how the system would ideally work out. Also, you could put a limit on the size of the action chain - this could vary from situation to situation, increase if we have surprise, or be lower if we have to react FAST.having limited space to work with seems like it would naturally force out weaker/spammier/less tactical suggestions from taking up space.
>>31104946>Let's paint it.Bear. Give it a bear on the front.Oh! and animate it, so when we find an upgrade that can fire all the bullets that pass through the field, it'll roar.
Alright, keep it up with the ideas and feedback anons. I'm working on the first post of the thread, should be up soonish.
>>31104950I agree with this, and I wanted to add:We chose possibly the most inconvenient fighting type without a ton of mods to have in your world, dude. You can say whatever you want, but there's a reason people don't use sabers anymore in war situations, and only have a knife at most.Revolver? Sure, but it's not exactly a solid assault weapon. It's a retreat weapon, or at best, a snipe weapon as you move into range. The riot shield is a cool idea, but honestly, it should have been a part of the CQC kit, because without it, low level CQC is quite damn near impossible unless, like you said, you design the entire encounter around our needs. And honestly, I don't want you to do that, that feels cheap, and artificial. I want to feel like we beat our foes, not that they were at a disadvantage to begin with ya know?If this mission is tough enough to warrant an announcement, then we should take a moment to hash out the above anons concerns. Our 'plan of action' thing only works if everything in the plan is coherent. We are anon. We can't always agree on everything, and if things get shitty, some of us will be too afraid to suggest an action because we don't want to be the reason we die.
>>31104691Hey, get this show on the road! i was promised a slogger of a social, get on with it!
>>31104946Lets paint it with pictures of lillies and bears and anti capitalist slogans!
>>31105092We'd run out of space and ruin the overall artistic impression.>>31105040>when we find an upgrade that can fire all the bullets that pass through the field?Liking bear.
>>31104691A suggestion for determining sequences:Have players add a [tone] tag to each proposed series of action sequences, and then add the details. So for example...[Tactical] Take potshots to grab their attention, then feign a fighting withdrawl into the room we just left, luring them into Elda and Niels' firing lanesOr[Aggressive] Throw a flashbang, charge in with your axe screaming "WRYYYY"As for how to choose which sequence to go with:Have Plan of Attack proposals (like the ones above) also count as votes. Rely on tone votes to figure out what we want overall while stitching together something appropriate from the detailed responses. Example: there are 4 votes.Vote 1: [tactical] lure them out of the roomVote 2: [tactical] lure them out of the roomVote 3: [tactical] get into cover and suppressVote 4: [aggressive] charge in and axeSo there are 3 votes for [tactical], 1 vote for [aggressive]. [tactical] wins the tone vote, meaning Ivan will now do something smart and tactical rather than aggressive and reckless.2 votes for lure them out, 1 vote to suppress, 1 vote to charge in and axe. Ivan will now tactically and methodically lure them out of the room.
>>31105145>Second thingHe means when do we get a shield that>Takes bullets like a champ>Immediately reflects bullets back at the foe at same speed>Meaning we kill all foes with nothing but shield.
>>31104946Anglic, why do you have to be so damned cute.
>>31105190Darn you trip...
>>31105145>We'd run out of space and ruin the overall artistic impressionNot if we do it using good old heraldry>>31105195Stop projecting!
>>31105216YOU CANT STOP ME CJ
>>31105185If we're going with this, we could use pre-determined tone tags to keep everyone on the same page. Like,[stealth] [tactical] [agressive] [diplomatic] [technical]Each should be self-explanatory.
Standing in the hallway, you wonder what you should do with yourself and your newfound wealth. Probably take a byte from Cy’s e-book and head on down to the armory to check out the variety of delicious equipment and weapons that are on sale. You haven’t really bought much at all compared to many of your fellow rookies. Hell, at this point you're pretty sure you’ve got the most sparse kit out of all the mercs. Even the financially astute Elda has gone off and bought some pretty expensive smart scope for her rifle.Just as you’re about to head down to the Armory and put that employee discount to good use, a ping pops up in your HUD. It’s from Niels.>Ivan, remember the Reyumbi Stock Exchange thing? Elda and I want to talk about it. Good time?Rubbing your chin, you consider the possibilities.>Tell Niels and Elda to meet up in an hour or two. You have dakka to buy>Tell them now’s good.
>>31105195Now you're just pulling my leg.>>31105190> in the grimdark future of the late second millenium there only the nation of New Canada is what remains of the former political landscape of planet earth.>>31105190>>31105213Quite interesting, but could such a system work within the limits of handwavium allotted for each discrete piece of technology?
You know guys.I think we should try and make Ivan's gear look like Predator endgame style. That is>Melee prowess>Rotating gun turrets(That we built) on our back to handle shooting.>Cloaking tech to let us get in super close, as well as multi-vision maskWhat do you think?
>>31105272>Disregard bros and hos, acquire dakka
>>31105272>Tell them now’s good.Maybe we can all head down to the armory to help us with what we should get afterward
Rolled 19 + 6>>31105272>>Tell Niels and Elda to meet up in an hour or two. You have dakka to buyIsn't Elda getting laid right now anyway?
>>31105334I guess Valkyrie had a schedule to keep.
>>31105272>Tell Niels and Elda to meet up in an hour or two. You have dakka to buy
>>31105272>Tell Niels and Elda to meet up in an hour or two. You have dakka to buyWe need to be shootier, more choppy, and more 'ard, on a responsible budget.
>>31105272>1We gotta get gear first. But we'll be there, soon.>>31105293I don't see why not. After all, Dreads had a device that throws plasma. I could certainly believe in a kinetic shock shield that works on dark matter principles that launches all energy directed at it at an equal and opposite direction.Sound sci fi enough?
>>31105272>>Tell them now’s good.Better to do it now before shopping, maybe we'll get more informations about that drop. That way we'll be able to equip ourselves accordingly.
>>31105334Shouldn't she be bed ridden for a day or so now too because of that?
>>31105352>>31105392Oh right... oops. You spent a really long time in Svenja's office I guess?
>>31105412He called us first?
>>31105412Or Elda became scared and ran away?>>31105392Should be.
meet first, hear plan, THEN dakka.
>>31105412We could pretend we went back home and went to bed, so now it's the next day
>>31105308Nah that's Tsukino's endgame since shes all stealth melee anyways. We'll probably end up more like Thor or something.Goddamnit we have no one to make a shieldwall with
>>31105478Buy androids, give them shieldsName them Huscarls>>31105443Maybe it's a hint that Elda chickens out when it's time for sex? Nothing too angsty, just....performance anxiety.
>>31105412Ehhh, this ain't really too important. If it's later in the day or the next the, go ahead.
>>31105443>>31105520>Valkyrie>Letting her partner chicken out or run away
Thermoptic camo, flash bangs, riot gas, and a facemask that can see through smoke. Blind and choke em, then shoot em through the smoke. Tactical indeed. Time for Ivan to up his game.
>>31105412Clearly we are meeting up at Elda's, so that we find her on the couch groaning in pain with ice packs on her hips. "Boy those elevators sure are rough to ride, eh?"
>>31105520Or maybe she doesn't like lillies.>>31105531IIRC, when someone tells her no, she stops.
>>31105478>>31105520>Forgetting about the 3 rookies we recruited and recommended for Strikeout Basic.>Using a outdated shield-wall tactics for modern gun fights and not learning proper fire team tactics >Not focusing on advancing our assault rifle skill because it will be the most useful overall
>>31105272Nows good, once we know more we can tailor our load out with specifics in mind for the mission.
>>31105641Speaking of ARs we should mod the shit out of our AK. I'm thinking casket magazines for starters, maybe an underbarrel grenade launcher as well.
Oh btw Fall Guy. Last time I didn't really get it.When we saw Elda and Val in the lift, were they already enacting in makeout sessions?Or was Val just trapping Elda in a sexy kind of way?Gotta say, if it's the former. As dumb as it sounds, it will prolly deter from her waifu factor.
>>31105740Elda is already the worse waifu. And the former seem kinda out of character.
>>31105740I don't see why it would. I mean, we're running around attempting to fuck everyone, it's hypocritical to judge Elda for it.I think this kind of stuff was hand-waved as "Sex is more casual in the future."Besides, Threesome.
>>31105728Or getting a new AR entirely. With or CQC Strikeout Package we have 1 level in Assault Rifles which prevents us from having any negative modifiers when we us weapons of the same nature, but no positive modifiers either till levels 2+. However we have 3 levels in Handguns, which according to the pastebin includes all handguns, SMGs, and revolvers. We could go for a new SMG or go in-between a SMG and a AR and get a PDW (Personal Defense Weapon).
>>31105740Casual sex happens in the spacefuture anon. The only potential waifu candidates who might not engage in it are Tsukino and Svenja and they have NTR and HR working against them respectively.Plus from my point of view the possible threesome potential only helps both of their scores.
>>31105740Val was probably doing the fabled, age-old Cicada Block to Elda to prevent her escape. The question now is how can Ivan coax Cy, Markos and Darius into doing the even more ancient 'TOWER CICADA BLOCK' to Val, in which several suitors work together to passive-aggress on the party they are interested in!
>>31105835Not that I disagree with you, but the only person we've actually tried to fuck is Valk, and in that case it's more like she fucked us.
>>31105835Well. My personal angst I guess.Never really was in agreenment on the whole horndog thing either tbh.
>>31105835>I think this kind of stuff was hand-waved as "Sex is more casual in the future.">Not to mention that mercs are kind of different already anyway.
>>31105845>We have training in SMGsHooooly crap why don't we carry those? Two of them. For dual wielding. No seriously though, we need a proper assault weapon and that is as close as we're getting. It's way better then trying to train an entirely new skill.
>>31105869Well, by the sound of it Elda may well be dead by the end of our next mission, so don't go getting too invested in her.
>>31105780But anon Val is the worst waifu
less waifu-chat, more slash and dakka. let's start killing something!
>>31105845Low-caliber high-velocity giant-magazine SMG isn't a bad idea. With our revolver we seem to spend half of our time reloading.
>>31105866I'm pretty sure we hired three asian schoolgirls because we wanted to fuck them, didn't we?
>>31105885we already have two smgs. we've never used them. this mission would be a good time to start.
>>31105912Was that why? I dunno, I'm not saying I'd be opposed to that, but I don't think that's why Ivan did it. He just wanted to be the greatest sempai, is that so wrong?
>>31105845>Or getting a new AR entirelyI'd rather spend the money on our armor.
>>31105874>Not to mention that mercs are kind of different already anyway. That make me think, if we are to waifu someone, shouldn't we waifu anyone but another merc? We already have enough to worry about.>>31105906Val isn't anyone's waifu.
>>31105972The whole of StrikeOut is Val's waifu.
>>31105904I dunno, the bitter loss from our waifu dying in combat (possibly due to our own fuckups) sounds delicious.
>>31105910I personally think we upgrade our current arsenal (tomahawk, assault rifle, revolver) because that gives us a good variety, range wise. (short, long-ish, middle)Also, we buy the folding shield, and depending on how much money we have left, upgrade ehem hexplates.
>>31105972>SpoilerThat's because Val is going for Harem End.And The Brick's population is the Harem.
>>31105972>We already have enough to worry about.Which is why you keep it to casual relationships within the pack and don't make targets out of innocents by taking them as lovers.
>>31106000>>31106000So, Val is a bisexual female Rance?
>>31105999We have two SMGs that we are better with than our rifle and that stack skills with our revolver. Our best bet may be to pawn the rifle and one of the SMGs and spend that money on upgrading the remaining one for more versatile mid-range use in the way of higher velocity ammo and maybe an optic.Armor is the priority regardless.
>>31105999SMG is better for our assault weapon. Mostly because it requires a skill we're already trained in. More effective that way.
>>31105845>>31105885>>31105910Seriously though, yeah we should start using SMGs since we get a bonus for using them during combat.>PDWsI like the ideas of PDW, pistols and SMGs that fire rifle cartridge rounds/ rounds able to penetrate body armor. FN P90, Heckler & Koch MP7, Knight's Armament Company PDW, VBR-Belgium PDW, and PP-2000 fall under this category.
>>31106081>SMGs that fire rifle cartridge roundsAssault rifles?
>>31106029No, she's shepherd, except without being route-locked by bioware
>>31106081>/k/ talkOh, good, you're here! I don't know any of those terms, but let's do it.Way easier then trying to train Assault Rifles up to level 3.But of course, this all comes after Armor.
>>31106068>>31106070Yea, this makes sense I guess. But in this case I think we should pawn the assault rifle, and the two smg's, and then buy a better quality smg.I can't imagine two random ass guard guns can be all that good, and if I'm going to invest in upgrading something, I want it to be cutting edge.
>>31105845>Or getting a new AR entirely. We have armory access+job. We shouldn't buy ANYthing, but we should practice the fuck out of guns there for free/cheap.Put that Brain Aug that makes us learn fast to use, and THEN buy a good gun with nice features that we like at a discount through strikeout
>>31106107not quite:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Personal_defense_weaponput a decent stock and optics on one and it could cover our longer ranges.
>>31106152Agreed.Armor first, then Shield, then good SMG.Good loadout? Good load out.
>>31106081>>31106107>>31106169We should probably get confirmation on what counts as what for gameplay purposes.I'd figure the handgun skill covers weapons meant to be fired from one or both hands unsupported, whereas anything with a stock is likely encroaching on rifle skill territory even if it doesn't fit the usual rifle category.
You snort and cross your arms before replying to Niels.>Really? Elda’s with you right now? I claim bullshitA few seconds later Niels responds.>What? How’d you know? I sent the same message to her, except with your name insteadYou begin to walk off to the tram to the Armory while responding to Niels.>Elda caught valkyrie’s eye. We’ll be lucky if she’s in shape for the mission. The simple “Oh.” from Niels makes your day, and you burst out laughing. Guy needs to think more before he fibs. He’s almost as bad at it as Cy is. Periodically chuckling, you hop onto the Tram and ride it to the Armory. After some more unremarkable walking, you finally arrive at the Armory. The products on sale look positively tantalizing, now that you actually have the cash to buy them. Walking through the rows of gear you begin to make some mental notes of weapons and armor that catches your eye.Your perusal comes to a sudden stop however. There’s a new display in the Armory. A mannequin in some nifty looking armor stands near one of the walls. Your eyes follow the sleek contours of it’s shoulder plates until they settle on the thing the display stand in advertising. The Armory’s gotten a brand new shipment of Bulwark Shields. Some of the most popular equipment for military professionals who work in environments with more lead in the air than oxygen, these are the best ballistic shields for the credits in the market.Attempting to control the torrent of drool, you download the display’s catalogue and take a seat, looking over the items that have caught your eye.http://pastebin.com/YR5Y6219>You have 37,929 Credits in Checking>Choose wisely
>>31106187Yup. But what kind of armor/shield? I personally want a more of a captain america approach to combat, not so much of a tank.
>>31106169That would be PDW rounds then.
>>31106169Oh shit that covers a P-90. I'd definitely think that would qualify as a submachine gun type. Interesting

>>31106290Damn. In that case, I vote for...Cold Iron Armor KitFolding ShieldAt some point when we have more credits we should look into reinforcing/putting hexplates on the Folding Shield, but we'll burn that bridge when we get there.
>>31106198>Folding>Cold Iron Armor Kit
>>31106198I'm thinking a Folding Shield would be for the best, it can't take sustained fire the same way the Standard one can, but it not taking up so much room means we can always have it with us.And the Cold Iron Armor Kit is a no brainer. And hold off on grabbing anything else from here until we've browsed through the weapons section.
>>31106198can we get the folding, than add some hexplates later? or is the hexplate shield a different entity? Can we get a hexplate shield with only one hexplate that we can activate in case of emergencies?
>>31106198>Cold Iron Armor>Bulwark Shield
>>31106357>bulwark shieldGah, make it fold if we can afford it.
>>31106107Yes and No, with most "Assault Rifles", we have a longer barrel, intermediate size cartridge (more than a pistol round less that a battle rifle round), and use of a magazine. Used more for longer ranged engagements usually a range of 300 meters (980ft) roughly 3 football fields if you wanna be like that.Throughout the quest though, we have not been any combat situation where we were required to engage enemies at that range, so having one and not being trained in using ARs is a waste, when we can use a PDW or SMG.PDWs are similar to ARs and SMG except they are primarily focused on shortened and used for close quarters but still retain the accuracy, firepower, and penetration of a rifle round. But that still applies to most "Assault rifles". The defining characteristics of a PDW are the higher velocity smaller caliber rounds or full fledge rifle rounds they use, that allow body armor penetration(up to level IIIa boday armor at least). Only problem I see is the price of these guns and the technology in game.
>>31106353I figure, we can use the shield in combination with suppression tactics to make melee more viable. Like...Niels/Elda suppress the enemy so shots coming at you are minimizedBring up shield to ward off any stray shots that come at youAxe themSo use the shield more as a safety net than a tool to let us tank everything
>>31106198> Cold Iron Armor Kit (13,000 Credits)> Thunder Thump 9000 (6,000 Credits)>> Seismic Upgrade (3,000 Credits)> Folding Bulwark Shield (12,000 Credits)Comes out to 34,000 without discount, 31,600 with 10% discount if it is applicable which would leave us with 3,929 or 6,329 credits depending. The Folding and Cold Iron are givens, I suggest Thunder Thump because it would give us a really good melee backup in the case we lose our axe as well as a silent takedown option and also could be a powerful double attack with it that could easily topple a BART operator with a Seismic upgrade.
>>31106442I like this. Can we buy a single hexplate for the shield though, just in case a missile comes at us? is that possible?
>>31106419>Only problem I see is the price of these guns and the technology in game. And the potential for the 'short rifles don't get handgun skill bonuses' ruling, which would make the whole thing somewhat purpose defeating.
>>31106496Maybe we could get a hexplate on its own and rig it up ourselves? Ivan is a hardware sorta dude.
>>31106496>>31106442Eh.This is just armor.do we have to blow all our cash on armor? We need some nades and ammo and such...

>>31106419I know, I was just pointing out that most PDW rounds are more like pistol rounds with spitzer bullets. There are some that fire assault rifle rounds, but it seems like most of the companies are going with their own proprietary rounds.
>>31106198Old Iron for sure. I like the folding shield as well. After that I want to get some kind of sighting system for the revolver so we can actually hit shit with it, and maybe something to upgrade our sub-machinegun.

With the sheid we can still use our pistols, revolvers, and 1 handed SMGs to full effect still. We could also add more mods to the shield light flood lights/ tactical lights to flash on and off and disorientate enemies or leave shield to distract while we flank the enemy. We should take the folding one though, to retain mobility, because being able to move around a battle field during a gun fight is crucial.

You decide on the Bulwark Folding Ballistic Shield, the Cold Iron Armor Kit, and the Ranged Engagement Pack for the OMP. You look at the Hexplate Bulwark wistfully. You’re pretty sure you could’ve made some magic happen with that thing and the piezoelectric converter, but the damn thing is too fucking expensive. Pleased that you probably won’t be dying any time soon with your upgraded kit you walk up to the Armorer’s desk and lean on the countertop expectantly. The Armorer pretends to ignore you for a few seconds but eventually sighs and puts away the book she’s reading. Yep, definitely something about dragons and fucking. Choosing to not comment on your boss’ choice in literature you wait while she rings up your orders.“Alright, so all told that’s 29,000 credits,” the Armorer pauses and glances at you from behind her terminal screen before sighing. “But for my number one employee, I guess it’ll only be 26,100.”You grin. Ten percent isn’t half bad. And since you have free reign of her work station in the back, you really think you’re coming out ahead on this one. You quickly pay for your various bits of gear while the Armorer orders a bot to dig them up out of inventory.>Credits: 11,829>Do you want to say anything to the Armorer while the bot fetches your gear? “Hey look at the bright side,” you say with a grin. “Maybe someday I’ll know enough so that you can take a day off every once in a while.”The Armorer shakes her head and snorts. “Maybe if you live long enough. Still, most of the time it’s just sitting in place and trying not to fall asleep.”You cock your head. “If this is so boring for you, then why do it?”The Armorer raises an eyebrow. “You’ve seen what I’ve got stashed in the back. Who in their right minds wouldn’t want enough guns and gear to start her own militia? I’m doing this cause I love my inventory.”You nod. Makes sense. Even working in the same room as some of the stuff she has is pretty thrilling. “Makes sense. So I got a question. You were a merc in the early days right? What was that like.”The Armorer scowls. “Shitty. We were almost wiped out on more than one occasion,” The Armorer leans back in her chair and sighs before looking up at you with a wolfish smile on her face. “But I guess that made our comeback all the sweeter.”The Armorer laughs mirthlessly. “I remember this one drop. It was against a merc company that had been hounding us for a while. Always timed their drops for when we were switching shifts. Unprepared. From what I heard they liked to use us as target practice for their new mercs. Miranda launched my pod right into the middle of their mess hall, breached the place and vented the entire room.”The Armorer start laughing, this time genuinely. “I was lucky. I only just got a vacuum capable kit a day before. When I confronted her about it, she just shrugged and said she clearly needed some target practice.”>How do you respond?>Laugh with her>”They got what was coming.”>”Bet they didn’t appreciate the irony or whatever.”>Write In>>><<<<Note: 4chanx isn't automatically filling in my name field. >>31107751Not that guy, but if stealth is a major thing this mission, having a weapon that can place listening devices, video cameras, motion sensors, fire knock-out darts or EMP darts could be crazy fuckin' useful. Sticky Camera Launcher, and such. Again it's nice but, we don't really have the skill for it, we could pitch the idea to one of our more sneakier merc buddies and have them use it, they could probably do a better job at it that us anyway.
>>31107822>>31107852Let's buy the darts while we can!

>>31107931Like >>31107990 said, Ivan is good with hardware and darts don't have a crazy range anyway. If anything, it'd be inserting a camera/mic/sensor or a scrambler thing right up close or from a few feet away.
>>31107990Ok, we can monitor the cameras, sensors, and audio devices but if someone is better at being sneaky and shit, let them be the one shooting the launcher and placing cameras and we provide support and work the equipment.
>>31108043We really should make the investment NOW before we're in the shit and then realize 'ohhhh shit we probably shoulda gotten it.' We have the money, let's just get it before it is too late.

You chuckle along with the Armorer. Bastards had it coming. Who the fuck drops on another merc company unless they’re getting paid for it? What a dick move. “Such is the life of a merc. Although I bet they didn’t appreciate the irony or whatever it is.”The Armorer nods. “Probably not. Oh hey. Your gear is here,” she turns around and takes the duffle bag from the bot. “Here, keep the bag. It’s my gift to you.”You accept the duffle bag with a thanks and take your leave of the Armory. You’ll be back later to get your equipment set up. But not right now. You’ve got another ping from Niels to deal with first.>Hey Ivan. Elda’s actually here now. I’d really like to talk about the mission now.You wait a second before pinging Elda.>You actually there?Elda responds immediately>Yes. And we need your input on something.>Really? You want my input? Knocking on the door, you wait for Niels to invite you in. After a few seconds, during which you’re sure you’re being watched, the door opens and Niels ushers you inside. You see that Elda in sitting at one side of the table. Too easy for us to mess up unless she brings up certain subjects, and relationships are apparently one of them.Regardless, we're here to talk about a mission, not whatever fun she may (or may not) have been having. >>31108602I'm thinking now, we should have held of buying our toys until after we planned everything and talked about the mission. Jumped the gun there guys.
>>31108700The good arguments came after the vote, and it's not like the armory is going anywhere.
>>31108655Fuck off dude, sometimes the obvious needs to be stated, or else the waifu bullshit gets out of hand. Not the guy who posted this btw.
>>31108545Melville's Shortcut is a grappling hook first and foremost. The rest of your ideas were saved for later.Still writing. Big exposition.
>>31108768Anonymous comes to defend my honor! Still, might as well just move things along.
>>31108768Yes yes, you're not the same poster, I doubt anyone cares.Stop shitposting and knock it off. Anon was already wanting to concentrate on mission, let it go.Oh wait, not the guy who posted that either. See how silly that sounds?Just stop it.
>>31108880And now you're just a cunt.
“Alright. No time to fuck around. Niels, what’s going on with this mission? You’ve got more info for us? Any new developments?”You take a seat on Niels’ bed, clapping your hands together. “C’mon, let’s get to business.”Niels glances at Elda before nodding vigorously. “Yes. Right. There a whole bunch of new information available on the mission that’s been uploaded to the HR databases. The Mission is called Operation Capital Shock. Apparently the contracting corp is Steadfast Mutual.”Your brow furrows. “What would a mutual fund want with StrikeOut? That makes no sense. Who are these Steadfast guys?”Elda nods, giving you a suspicious look in spite of her agreement. “Steadfast is the biggest mutual fund in the Xuanzang sector. They’re responsible for the investment of hundreds of billions of credits for everyone and everything in there. But I’m with Ivan. I don’t see why they’d need us.”Niels begins to pace around the room, hands clapped behind his back. “Apparently there was a confidence breach in the upper echelons of Steadfast’s management. Their internal affairs wing discovered that a whole bunch of their C-level officers were in cahoots with Limited Liability Solutions.”
You scratch your chin. “The Terran crime front?”Niels nods grimly. “The very same. Apparently LLS set up a bunch of shell corporations for Steadfast to invest in. Then the corps will fold and the execs and LLS will run off with billions of credits.”Elda grimaces. “Typical. Traitorous stronzi. Which wing of LLS is responsible for this?s”Niels continues pacing. “Steadfast’s IA thinks that the Triads are responsible.”Niels is too busy speaking, but you notice. Elda breaths a sigh of relief upon hearing it’s the Triads. You’d ponder what that could mean, but Niels is saying some important shit. “So anyway, Steadfast’s IA picked up on this just in time. The shell corporations have yet to liquify the invested credits. So Steadfast wants StrikeOut to attack and destroy the Xuanzang sector’s Stock exchange server farm. They’ve tampered with Reyumbi’s backup of the server so the trades never happened and all those credits are still free floating. That’s the window of opportunity we need to make our own alterations to the Xuanzang stock exchange. Upload our little hack and start some insider trading.”>Any Questions?
>>31109024"What's the opposition like?"
>>31109024>Any Questions?"Wut."Nah, but I guess we should ask what the actual drop will entail.
>>31109024>Any QuestionsSo what kind of op force are we looking at here?
>>31109024>Ask about insertion into AO and extraction. >Ask about any non-combatants, civilians, friendlies and persons of interests.>Ask about rules of engagement.>Ask about enemy combatants, who are they, equipment, training, numbers, air-support and assets.>Ask about time frame of mission.>Ask about what everyone else is bringing/equipment.
>>31109024>>31109024>>Any Questions? How is the security, human, machine or other.Later, in private, ask this:Elda, it pains me to ask that, but I saw your reaction a few minutes ago. Do you have any ties to LLC that could endanger the operation?
>>31109024So, Layout, security and civilian presence at the time of the drop?
>>31109099Might as well. That's a good itemized list Anon.
>>31109024Is this intended to be our briefing? Is Niels referring to questions about our little scam, or general questions about the mission? I assume Niels will handle the hacking, what does he need from us to make that happen? Is there a safe-ish place where he can get this shit done? Does he need to remain stationary or do anything physical to the servers, or can he do this shit in his head on the move?
>>31109099this this this
>>31109108It's going to be funny if Elda is part of the Italian Mafia. I'll lose my shit man.
>>31109099Agree with this, we need to get a complete rundown, this is going to be serious business.Considering the money involved and the fact a crime front is involved, it's very likely LLS is going to play for keeps, and we'll need to look at every angle of this mission.
>>31109205>>31109205Not just any mafia, the Italian SPACE mafia. In space.
>>31109230Silly anon. Its the Cosmo Mafia.CosMafia for short.
>>31109024God I love you Niels. Its kinda like Office Space but with more cool guns, explosions, and Russian mercs.
I don't think we'll be fighting criminals at first here, LLS doesn't operate the stock exchange. Likely high-end corpsec, robots, deadly security systems, and other hired guns like ourselves (hired by the exchange). If LLS is there waiting for us we have an internal security breach. They may show up during the mission of course, watch out for poorly fired drop pods.
>>31107804Still catching up but just wanted to say that after:>"I'm doing this because I love my inventory." I think I understand the Armorer much better.
>>31109099>>31109108These two cover all of the main bases.
“Well I’ve got one immediately important question,” you say, crossing your arms. “What’s the opposition?”Niels grimaces as well. “Bad. Very bad. Reyumbi Corp is responsible for running the Xuanzang SE server farm. They’ve got the elite of their security division guarding the place. These guys are supposed to be some of the best there is in outer ring Human Space. Heavily armed and highly trained. They only have normal guns though. No mechs or high explosives or railguns. Don’t want to run the risk of damaging the servers. There might be Combots there though. Reyumbi does not want to lose it’s contract to run the Xuanzang SE.”“I have a more meta question,” asks Elda, “Why doesn’t Steadfast just tell Reyumbi to cancel the trades?”Niels sighs, finally sitting down next to you on the bed, nervous energy spent for now. “Stupid reason. They don’t want to lose customer confidence. Take care of all this quietly.”“Blowing up a server farm is hardly quiet,” you snort.“True,” responds Elda, “But it probably won’t be traced back to them. And that’s all that matters.”
“So are we actually going to be in a server farm?” you ask.Niels smiles wistfully. “One of the biggest in the outer ring. Yeah.”You sigh and roll your eyes. “Don’t feel so bad Niels. I’m sure their server cables aren’t neatly organized.”As Niels shudders with disgust. Elda leans forward. “That brings us to our next question. And what we wanted your input for Ivan. We’ve worked out a short list for a fourth person to drop with us, but we wanted you to be here before we chose anyone.”Elda hands you a paper covered in neat, prim, cursive. She’s got great handwriting. Niels’chicken scratch looks even more appalling next to her script.>Markos: Great medic. Really great medic. And against elite's like Reyumbi's Server Guard, we might really need his skills. Also his shotgun might come in handy in the cramped quarters of the server farm. >Cy: Considering the opposition we might run in to, Cy’s heavy weaponry could be a decisive edge over the comparatively lightly armed Reyumbi Sec forces. >Clayton: He isn’t a fellow rookie, but his leadership abilities could be a serious asset against the Reyumbi sec forces. Besides, I’m pretty sure his comm suite includes a signal jammer, so that might be a nice insurance against any flanking maneuvers.>Tsukino: Stealth and recon skills could allow us to get vital information on enemy movements. Also, her katana could seriously fuck someone up at close quarters.>Suggest another person
>>31109453Is the server farm underground in some kind of hardened bunker? Are energy shields a thing yet? Is it in the middle of a densely populated area? Why can't we just blow the damn thing up with an orbital/aerial strike or a humongous car/robot-borne bomb?
>>31109486>Markos: Great medic. Really great medic. And against elite's like Reyumbi's Server Guard, we might really need his skills. Also his shotgun might come in handy in the cramped quarters of the server farm.
>>31109486>MarkosGetting through this without anyone dying would be a definite plus.
>>31109486>>31109486>>Markos: Great medic. Really great medic. And against elite's like Reyumbi's Server Guard, we might really need his skills. Also his shotgun might come in handy in the cramped quarters of the server farm.Might as well roll 1d4, they would all be useful here.We could also ask the martian chick.hahahahahaha
>>31109486>Cy: Considering the opposition we might run in to, Cy’s heavy weaponry could be a decisive edge over the comparatively lightly armed Reyumbi Sec forces. He could also use the cash.
>>31109486>>Clayton: He isn’t a fellow rookie, but his leadership abilities could be a serious asset against the Reyumbi sec forces. Besides, I’m pretty sure his comm suite includes a signal jammer, so that might be a nice insurance against any flanking maneuvers. We need someone who knows his shit about tactics if were going up against elites.
>>31109486Take-Out. We'll just go in, place explosives and leave.
>>31109514If they could blow it up with an orbital strike, they wouldn't need us and there wouldn't be a mission. This one is supposed to make us rich as fuck anyway. Let's not piss FG off and have him withdraw it.
>>31109486>>Markos: Great medic. Really great medic. And against elite's like Reyumbi's Server Guard, we might really need his skills. Also his shotgun might come in handy in the cramped quarters of the server farm.We could really use another medic. It'll be critical to keep everyone at fighting shape, also increases our staying power if we get boxed in.
>>31109486>Clayton: He isn’t a fellow rookie, but his leadership abilities could be a serious asset against the Reyumbi sec forces. Besides, I’m pretty sure his comm suite includes a signal jammer, so that might be a nice insurance against any flanking maneuvers.
We already have a medic.
>>31109646Well I keep asking questions and the plot train is just rolling on. We have two objectives here, destroy the server farm (actual objective) and line our own pockets (secondary). I asked earlier if Niels needed to do something physical to the servers to complete our modification, I assume that is the case. However, when it comes to the actual objective, what are we going to do? Shoot up all the servers? Smash with axe? As attractive as those options may be, they are neither efficient or safe. Can't we just fry them with an EMP? Are we going to level the whole building with a bomb? Push comes to shove I'm willing to concede that these things may not occur to Ivan, but this is going to be a fucking disaster, man.
>>31109486>ClaytonSeems to be the best way to thank him for saving our arm
>>31109670Elda isn't a medic. She has some medical training, but calling her a medic would be like calling her nice or polite.
>>31109486Close race between Clayton and Markos. But I think Markos has come out ahead by a hair. Writing.
>>31109486>Markos: Great medic. Really great medic. My vote is for Markos, we'll likely be needing his services, and his shotgun will be handy.Cy would be great, but in the cramped server farm areas, it might be hard to make full use of his weaponry.Clayton was a serious consideration, I suppose it might be a coinflip between him and Markos.Tsukino would be really handy, except she might actually be a distraction to Niels on such a stressful mission. Other than that, I'd actually be fine with her as well.
>>31109733In Shattered Moon, the Corp gave us some helpful specialist equipment, the det cores. I'm sure Steadfast will do the same for us.
>>31109486>>Markos: Great medic. Really great medic. And against elite's like Reyumbi's Server Guard, we might really need his skills. Also his shotgun might come in handy in the cramped quarters of the server farm.We will need his medic powers and the fight will be a close quarters one so he will excel in it.Also can we get a loadout of the rest of our team?
Alright am writing, have been writing. To pass the time:Do YOU think Elda is in the SPEHSS Mafia? Also, who is your favorite waifu? Have I defiled her yet?
>>31109893>Also, who is your favorite waifu? Have I defiled her yet?If they can be defiled by you, then they were no true waifu.
>>31109893>>31109893>Do YOU think Elda is in the SPEHSS Mafia? Her family probably has tie to the mafia.>Also, who is your favorite waifu? Have I defiled her yet?Svenja, no
>>31109893>Do YOU think Elda is in the SPEHSS Mafia?Haaahahahaaa, hell no. Her family totally is though. Probably her dad in particular.>Also, who is your favorite waifu? Have I defiled her yet?Tsukino and Elda are my waifus and YOU'VE DEFILED THEM BOTH WITH NERDBOYS AND HOT VIKING CHICKS.
>>31109486>Cy: Considering the opposition we might run in to, Cy’s heavy weaponry could be a decisive edge over the comparatively lightly armed Reyumbi Sec forces. This isn't going to be quiet, so we might as well bring some of the big guns - which will be especially useful if they are fielding combots
>>31109893>Also, who is your favorite waifu? Have I defiled her yet?Ain't nothin' but bitches and whores on this station.
>>31109893>Do YOU think Elda is in the SPEHSS Mafia?I actually believe the person who turned her into an emotional minefield (her last relationship) is part of, or in, the SPEHSS MAFIA. That's why she was a little worried, and asked for specifics.>Also, who is your favorite waifu? Have I defiled her yet?Tsukino! Unfortunately, you gave her to Niels. Time for some NTR, baby!Although more realistically, I'm hoping for a nice mentor/student relationship with Thundertits or the girl that got drunk with us, and see where it goes from there. While they are younger, I actually think they might be a more stable relationship for us compared to Elda.
>>31109971Elda has been lost to the realm of lilies anyway.
>>31109996I am almost positive Fall Guy wrote that scene to mess with us.
>>31109996>Elda has been lost to the realm of lilies anyway. That's actually fine with me. She's great as a friend/person to watch our back, but I'm not keen on her as anything more.Truth be told, I'd pick Val, Svenja, or one of Himawari Force over Elda. Heck, I'd even consider Armorer lady if she's not too ancient...
>>31109893Elda isn't in da mafia, but her family and her ex sure as hell is. Elda seems a little bit like a daddies girl to me, or was before she became a merc.As for mai waifu:I like Elda, Svenja, and Simge. So many waifus how do I hold them all.
>>31109996I am confusedWhat is this lilly talk?
>>31109893Ariwa, despite her single showing.
>>31109893>Have I defiled her yet?Not nearly enough. We should probably make a lighthearted joke about Elda's run in with Valkyrie,, see how she reacts, how she's holding up and feels about it.
>>31109893Also, who is your favorite waifu? Have I defiled her yet?Gah so hard to pick one as of yet. Himawari Force, especially Hikaru (that sweet Megane), Elda, Smige, and Svenja. I like them all. And I don't believe you have defiled any of them Yet
>>31109893>Also, who is your favorite waifu? Have I defiled her yet?Thundertits, hopefully we can be the ones to defile her first before Valkyrie does.
>>31109893You haven't corrupted Svenja yet so I still have hope.
>>31110014Probably, and hey, it gives us something in common with her, now we can talk about surviving The Valkyrie together and bond over it.You guys need to stop thinking that Elda has been ruined and taken away and Ivan can't have a relationship with her anymore because of it.
hmmm I wish Ivan would defile his poor bumbling HR rep.
>>31110212My issue with Elda isn't that, it's that apparently Ivan grabbing her hand is grounds to get slapped, but Valk ambushing her in an elevator and sticking her tongue down Elda's throat is a-okay.Just kind of makes her seem like she's being a dick to Ivan for no good reason.
>>31110234definitely something we need to talk to her about and get her over, because her emotional issues are at this point, just dragging on and festering for no reason
>>31110234>>31110234Well, Elda has always acted like a gigantic cunt toward Ivan. Not sure why people want to waifu her.
>>31110266It's the tsundere appeal man
>>31110234Did seem super out of character but if that's the way Fall Guy wants it
>>31110279Yeah that whole scenario didn't really seem like Elda to me. I don't know, maybe there was more going on there than we (Ivan) saw in that short time frame and we left
>>31110279yeah, seemed like a very about-face 180 on her characters part, but I'm hopeful that FG can clear it up and Elda's emotional issues soon, would hate for such a small event to ruin an entire character
“Markos,” you say firmly. “I don’t want to bleed out and die. Markos.”Elda looks mildly offended. “I’m a medic too you know!”You give Elda a look. It’s a mix of exasperation, irritation, and amusement. “And if you’ve been knocked unconscious and were bleeding out, would you want my tender ministrations? Or the trained professional?”Elda’s ears turn a little pink and she scowls. “I suppose you have a point. The man is still a pig.”Niels looks like he’s about to disagree, but it dies in his throat. “Yeah,” he sighs, “But Markos is a good guy. Just a bit… crude.”You nod in agreement with Niels. “Besides we could use that shotgun. It’s a nice intermediate between my axe and Niels’ AR at close range.”Elda finally concede to your points. “Fine fine. I would have preferred Clayton. He seems to know what’s going on when lead’s in the air.”You nod. “Yeah. It was a close call for me, but I’d prefer dropping with a guy who can stitch me back together. Since I tend to need that.”Elda sighs and agrees. “Alright then. Is there anything else we need to figure out here?”>Is there?
>>31110318I suspect it's because Elda is afraid of emotional attachment/affection, but not necessarily physical intimacy. She's fine with a friendly fuck, but it's the emotional commitment that gets to her.Her freaking out about getting her hand grabbed was less "I hate being touched" and more "Ivan touched her at a moment when she felt extremely vulnerable and uncomfortable".
>>31110321It was stated before, but basically:"What's the plan of attack?"
>>31110321>Is there?just one. what's the best guess for what our pay will be
>>31110321Entry and egress, anything we need to know about or will it be taken care of for us?
>>31109893>is Elda /in/ the mafia? My read is "not anymore, but I know some people.">Favorite WaifuVal, for she is far to complex a character to be reduced to a 'waifu'. That said I'm happy with there being no routes or locks or any of that crap, just relationships that develop organically.
>>31110342Basically this. And also: I highly doubt Fall Guy put a ton of thought into the whole "Val fucks Elda cuz she badass now" Thing. So picking it apart is kinda pointless.
>>31110321"Nah, don't think so."If Niels got nothing else to add, show off our new swag.
>>31110321>>31110321>>Is there?Ask her privately what are her ties to LLS
>>31110321seconding >>31110344 & >>31110353How do they plan for things to go down, things to expect and be ready to counter/prepared for, contingencies we might want, and consequences of the mission relating to how it effects us.
>>31110321>Is there?Plan of attack/egress, if we have ideas at this point.Anything unusual we need to consider to make the hack and Niels' work quicker/easier. We want to spend as little time as possible doing it, since the mission will undoubtedly go to hell at some point.
>>31110266>Not sure why people want to waifu her.We really shouldn't. She's poor relationship material at this point, Ivan's probably going to be friendzoned or is better off elsewhere.
>>31110456>>31110456On the contrary, I think Ivan is one of the few guy she wouldn't friendzone. Too bad she's so unpleasant and caustic that waifuing her would be a bad idea.
>>31110318>>31110279>>31110311I will be as explicit about this as possible. I do not like the idea that a girl is automatically disqualified from being a romance-able character in a quest by simply having a sexual history. I don't much care for seeing quests derailed, players arguing, and things falling apart because of "waifus". I do not actually like the concept of waifus very much at all. At least the concept as it appears in /tg/. Does this mean I won't allow my players to pursue or express any romantic interest in the quest? No. I'm actually very gratified that people are interested in the romantic subplots of some of my characters.I'd like for there to be a smidge of romance in DAQ. This is a Space Opera, and what good Opera doesn't have a bit of that? But I will not tolerate seeing my players rip each other to pieces over some poorly written female characters. That's why I don't like waifus. I don't like seeing my players rip each other apart and go all toxic over some imaginary girls. You can prefer a character as a romantic interest. To me the term waifu comes along with a whole lot of baggage and potential shitstorms. Was Elda's behavior odd? Not really, but that's from a QM perspective. From your perspective and Ivan's it certainly was. Hopefully when you learn a bit more about her it will make more sense. What was the point of that scene? To yank on people's chains. That was about the extent of it.Apologies to the anons I quoted. This isn't really directed at you in particular, but I used your posts as a jumping off point. Nothing personal.
>>31110488>Too bad she's so unpleasant and caustic that waifuing her would be a bad idea.Only until that dam of her emotional issues is brought down, thats the main thing thats holding her character up at this moment, we get past that, and she becomes a much better character to be around and in relationship with.Don't write her off as damaged goods yet.Well relatively damaged goods, we're all damaged goods
>>31110527Thank you based fall guy for restoring sanity
>>31110527>ask people their opinion on waifus>get mad at people for arguing about waifusI'm not entirely sure what you thought would happen.
>>31110555T'was meant in jest.
>>31110527Eh, I've mostly been ignoring those guys, mate. You're probably better off doing so too. They hardly represent the majority.
>>31110555>>31110564personally, thats the main reason I hate the term, it carries so much baggage that even when its convinient shorthand, it causes problems, terms like LI's are much better and don't carry such baggage
>>31110600Buzzword or not, it means essentially the same thing.Personally, I already know there are no route locks, or 'best girl' teams to jump on Or if there is some of the second one, they should stop now while they're ahead.I'll vote for what I think fits the scene, or what seems most interesting, and IC. That's the only way anyone should ever vote, I think.
>>31110527The discussion was rather tame anyways but you can't blame us when you make a character unlikeable in our/Ivans eyes. Plus a freaking hate it when every hot girl is les or bi.
>>31110674This is more or less the same type of post as the one I made at the beginning of the thread. A heads up before this sort of thing could ever become a real problem.I've got no favorites in this particular race. I lied. As much as I hate to admit it, I really prefer ______
>>31110600>terms like LI's are much better and don't carry such baggageThat's splitting hairs, to be honest.Whether it's a waifu or a love interest, you're dealing with the same thing - anons will support their favorite, and depending on how the QM portrays them, it can cause problems. My issue is that while Elda very well may have reason to act as she does, she has been made to act terribly caustic and annoying to the point where it's hard to keep any interest in her beyond fellow merc.Truthfully, I doubt very much that anon has an issue with Elda sleeping with anyone else. I know I'm not stuck on us having some virginal waifu/love interest.I think the big issue is she's reacted badly to Ivan, then patches things up and indicates at least interest in him......but then (yes, deliberately to yank our chains) shows up with Val's tongue down her throat, so to speak. Not exactly a great way to make us like her, especially since she didn't bother to drop us a ping or anything.I'd personally rather just see us stay her friend and nothing more, purely due to her emotional issues, and having nothing to do with the Val scene.
>>31110725YOU TAKE YOUR HANDS OFF THOSE UNDERAGE UNDERSCORES
>>31110725Don't lie to me. Your favorite is shower
>>31110725Six digits, Svenja?
>>31110725That's either Svenja or Armorer. Or Miyuki
>>31110739>My issue is that while Elda very well may have reason to act as she does, she has been made to act terribly caustic and annoying to the point where it's hard to keep any interest in her beyond fellow merc. And I respectfully disagree, as I can see past the acid in her mouth.May we drop the subject now? I'd rather wait in silence then see this argument flood the thread.
>>31110775It all makes sense!
>>31110674>Plus a freaking hate it when every hot girl is les or bi.You and the rest of the thread need to stop freaking out about banging every girl in the thread and focus on hot mercenary action movie shootings. The waifu wars are ruining it.If you cannot into relationships and complex feelings like a socialble human bean, avoid waifu wars.
>>31110793I agree with you anon. And yes, this discussion has long surpassed its usefulness, time to end it and enjoy the thread.
>>31110814>socialble human bean>human beanTHE PEARALIUMS ARE HERE
>>31110527>I do not like the idea that a girl is automatically disqualified from being a romance-able character in a quest by simply having a sexual historyI don't think any of us are really disqualifying girls based on sexual history. As a whole, we like Val, and she's anything BUT chaste. That said, don't be surprised when anon spends time with a girl beyond normal work, then gets turned off when she shows up shortly after progress happens in a possibly sexual situation with someone else, and she does nothing immediately to dispel the misunderstanding (if there was one). You might see all the cards, but it's your choice to present things to us as you do. Try to keep that in mind. All of that said, you do a great job, so don't see this as me being upset or anything. Nothing of the sort.
>>31110739Actually, the only think I found inconsistent was how easily we patched things with Elda. That seemed like player appeasement. That said I don't really understand the Val/Elda complaint. Val's a safe, emotional commitment free lay and in general almost a force of nature more than a person once she sets her mind to things. That's entirely different than lowering what are clearly highly evolved defense mechanisms to have vulnerable around someone that seems to care about you and not just physically mutual gratification. That said, Elda is more a friend than a love interest in my mind, so I don't really have skin in this game, I just don't see haw the situation's toxic.
>>31110860>>31110885Both of you are pretty much spot on.For me, Elda's a love interest because I'm genuinely liking her character and I see in her a very good partner for Ivan, sexually and non-sexually. Of course Valkyrie is going to be involved one way or another as she is want to do, so why not have her as a form of koolaidman mistress too?
I think the "Waifu Wars" will only get far worse if those three anime trope characters come into the story. The only way I see to prevent that shitstorm is to have them all wash out of training.
>>31110951>Val is Koolaidman MistressOh gooood my sides hurt.
>>31110885>was how easily we patched things with Elda. That was due more to the fact that Elda herself admitted she had screwed us over with how she acted, even if we didn't help. She knew we had no way of knowing, and she knew better. She knew she was unfair to us, and we had been nothing but friendly to her.
>>31110983That's silly, they barely even featured in the argument that just happened.Don't try to get characters you don't like removed from the story under the guise of doing it for the good of all of us.
>>31110951>annoying bitch>good with IvanI'm not really seeing it but whatever floats your boat anon.
>>31110983If you think that anon, then I feel sorry that you can't enjoy some silly fun centered around characters we've barely seen
>>31110983I think they'd be good as a group of morality pets/students, rather then love interests, but that's just me.
FG, please post next update so we can be done with this discussion...
>>31110983>if those three anime trope characters come into the storyYou can make an anime trope out of every damn merc on the Brick, you know. They are all represented.I'm ok with you not liking the three, but if you are going to remove them on that basis, you may as well deep six every merc we've met so far.The trick (and I think Fall is doing a decent job of it) is to try and make sure there is more to them than just the one dimension. So far, I think we're making lots of progress toward seeing many of the "trope" characters (like Svenja, or even Val) start to fill out more with interesting quirks or bits of character.
>>31111031Have you ever heard the phrase "Opposites attract", anon? Same principle there. Ivan's a goofball, so sticking him with a straight man like Elda means things keep on task rather then escalate.
“Not really guys,” you say yawning. “Honestly, I just want to head to bed. It’s getting late.”Niels checks the time in his e-glasses. “Oh shit. It is getting late. Think I’ll need to turn in soon. I’ve got some work to do for Ifu in the morning.”You and Elda exit Niels’ apartment waving goodbye to your merc friend. Stepping out into the hallway, you wait a moment before saying anything. “So Elda,” you glance at her through the corners of your eyes. “Niels didn’t notice it, but I did. What’s your connection to LLS?”Elda looks startled before her expression returns to one of incredulity. “LLS? Why would I know stronzi like those bastards in LLS?”“Dunno,” you say trying to keep it casual, “Just noticed you looked worried when Niels said LLS was involved. And then you asked which branch of the LLS was involved. Just seemed odd.”Elda’s mask of incredulity slips somewhat, before sliding off completely. Instead she just seems to be slightly fearful. “Listen Ivan,” she says, a slight note of nervousness slipping into her voice, “it’s nothing you need to worry about. It’s fine.”>What say you?>”It’s not fine. I need to know if you’ll be compromised in some way during the mission.”>”Alright Elda. If you say so, I’ll trust you on it.”>”What the fuck ever.”>Write In
>>31111136>>”It’s not fine. I need to know if you’ll be compromised in some way during the mission.”
>>31111136>”It’s not fine. I need to know if you’ll be compromised in some way during the mission.”
>>31111136>”Alright Elda. If you say so, I’ll trust you on it.”"Always remember, I'm here if you want to talk about it, or need a shoulder to cry on. In other news, survived The Valkyrie?"
>>31111136>”Alright Elda. If you say so, I’ll trust you on it.”We aren't hitting the branch she's worried about.
>>31111136>”Alright Elda. If you say so, I’ll trust you on it.”This has some nice subtlety to it.
>>31111136>>”Alright Elda. If you say so, I’ll trust you on it.”Also, FG, is Ivan's backround fully established in your plans, or will we get to describe parts of his pre-StrikeOut history?
>>31111136"Look you don't need to give me details. I just wanna know if its going to bite you in the ass sooner rather than later if you don't at least get it off your chest."
>>31111136>”Alright Elda. If you say so, I’ll trust you on it.”She didn't seem to have a problem with the branch involved, so even if it is a problem, it won't be in the mission
>>31111136>”Alright Elda. If you say so, I’ll trust you on it.”
>>31111136>"Alright Elda, if you say so, I'll trust you on this. If we run into the space mafia though, then I am NOT kissing the Space God-Father's ring."
>>31111136>”It’s not fine. I need to know if you’ll be compromised in some way during the mission.”"If you're playing a different angle than the rest of us, you should let us know before the bullets start flying."
>>31111202All that's official right now is that Ivan had a relatively normal life with a loving mother and father. There's also some work history prior to joining StrikeOut, engineering degree of some flavor, work as a combat engineer.
>>31111136>>”It’s not fine. I need to know if you’ll be compromised in some way during the mission.”What no this trust thing is gonna bite us in the ass WORSE THAN BITTER PROPHETFG warned us this would be FUCKING TOUGH, so learn to PLAY TACTICAL.DONT fuck up the team from the get go! figure shit out before hte drop.
>>31111136>”Alright Elda. If you say so, I’ll trust you on it.” + Write-in"Alright Elda. If you say so, I'll trust you on it. I trust you to watch my back, after all."Ivan gives her a faint smile, but his face suddenly hardens. "I'm also trusting, however, that this somehow will not come back to bite us in the ass, simply because it is something embarassing or inconvenient. I won't pry, but this mission is going to be very dangerous, and surprises would be bad."The smile returns. "As long as you're sure about that, I won't say another word. Promise me that you mean what you are saying, Elda."
>>31111273I vote for this.
>>31111271Well i vote for this!
>>31111273This is good
>>31111136>>”It’s not fine. I need to know if you’ll be compromised in some way during the mission.”FYI guys everyone voting Trust Elda cuz you have a boner for her:FG warned us we needed to show interest and concern for her, and that it's GENUINE to get anywhere with her.If you want to do that, go for the Doubt option, cuz it shows we care
>>31111136>”Alright Elda. If you say so, I’ll trust you on it.”Just tell me if the branch you're worried about comes into play during a mission, and not just this one, OK?
>>31111342>Everyone voting against me is wrong cuz thisGood work on being a dick bro.
>>31111136"Elda, I trust you, but if you're this nervous I'm pretty sure it's not fine." (Sigh) "Look, most of us have things in our past we'd rather not be part of our lives anymore, and I don't want to dredge any of that up, but I need you to promise me that if it's relevant, if it might be relevant, you'll clue us in enough to handle it. If you don't want us to know how you have relevant information, don't tell us your 'source' and I'll wack Markos if he gets out of line."
>>31111342>If you want to do that, go for the Doubt option, cuz it shows we careOn the other hand, if we care, we make it clear we will trust her - of course, the unsaid words being that if she has lied, we'll be disappointed.Time for Elda to make a choice - knowing what she does, how dangerous is her link?Secrets have a way of coming out in the long run, anyhow.
>>31111342Jesus, man, can you stop trying to continue the waifuing argument?
>>31111428Its pretty much a guaranteed at this point tho. Everyone gonna vote in favor of their special snowflake.
>>31111391>I'll wack Markos if he gets out of lineWould the shower also be involved as well?
>>31111447>Everyone gonna vote in favor of their special snowflake. Can I vote for Armory lady, then?
>>31111447So that's a totally legit reason to put up argument bait?
>>31111458I said "wack" not "wank".
>>31111484Wanting to NTR Bob. Actually, that would probably be fine as long as you accept the package deal.
>>31111273This, but maybe leave out the third part (the promise). I'm fine if it stays in, though.
>>31111499Just because you don't like it doesn't make it bait.Look at the post prompt, and everyone copy-paste blind voting. No thoughts or input into the deeper reasons behind what's going on, and anyone who dares say something that isn't greentext gets shouted at and called bait.Simmer down anon
>>31111515"Wack" is another term for "Wank", anon. Although it is more commonly used in the phrase, "Wacking off". Which is also a term for "Wank".
You sigh and rub the back of your head, looking up at the ceiling of the hallway before returning your attention to Elda. “Alright Elda. If you say it won’t be a problem I’ll trust you.”Elda seems to be relieved that you didn’t press the issue with her, visibly relaxing. You decide to follow it up with a little joke. “But I am not kissing the space Godfather’s ring.”Elda laughs a little bit. “Well I certainly hope it doesn’t come to that. If you met the Don you’d probably end up doing an EVA without the tether.”You chuckle. You didn’t think Elda had the ability to joke. “Alright seriously though. As long as this won’t be a problem, I won’t pry. Thanks for being honest with me, Elda.”You turn around and walk away from her, down the hallway. Figuring out Elda’s connection to LLS can wait. If you play your cards right, she just might end up telling you herself. At least, that’s what you hope.Still, now it’s bed time.
>>31111593I've never heard wack used instead of wank. Wack usually means killing someone.
threads on page 9
>>31111627THE SPACE DON IS GONNA WACK US MAN.WE'RE DONE FOR>>31111604Whoa, jokes? She must really not want to talk bout that shit.Gotta be family stuff.
Alright anons. That's it for today's thread. Bit slow on the update, not sure what the problem was. Real sorry about that.I think we'll be ready to drop by the next thread.Won't be able to run this weekend. Have 15 pages of econ analysis and regression to do by Tuesday. Will run then though. Will linger to do questions, etc.
>>31111604Dream sequence, HO!But before we do that, would you mind posting the minor augment list? I was thinking we might want to snag Falconian Eye to improve our aim (though mission means we want any advantage we can grab), but I can't remember the price.
>>31111668>15 pages of Econ analysisT-That's for school, or something, right?Right?!
>>31111663EWW, MAN, I DON'T NEED TO THINK OF THAT
>>31111668Thanks for the thread FG, looking forward to the mission, hopefully the dice are favorable.>>31111693that would be good to have a look at before the drop, get some augs or mods to help out
>>31111668So we're dropping on Tuesday?
>>31111663I somehow doubt that was a joke.
>>31111668Cool. Nice thread man, though really I think you react too strongly to a couple of anons being dickheads to one another. Not that it wasn't deserved in some ways, but everyone's got their own opinions, so they're bound to disagree in thread. Don't take it to mean we're all 'tearing ourselves apart'. Most of us were staying quiet, thankfully.>>31111693Eh. I swear I will never understand what any of that dream sequence crap is. I wish one anon would just sum it up and tell the rest of us what is going on.
>>31111744Unless anons have something pressing they want to take care of on the Brick, there will be a second visit to the Armory and then Ivan will drop.>>31111693Falconion Eye is 7,000 credits.>>31111769I probably was over reacting anon. I'm just paranoid after archive diving Psion Quest.Dear Lord. That was horrifying.
>>31111769>SummarySome shadowy, as of yet undefined thread brought the Pear People civilization to its knees (or wiped them out) and now it's headed humanity's way! Or we're about to reinvent it, but probably the former. But yeah, it's mostly there to let you know things are going to change from sandbox mode to a campaign in Act II, so be aware of that.
>>31111832>Archive diving Psion Quest>Psion QuestSweet jesus man, why? Why would you do that to yourself?Anyway, you don't need to fear that sort of shit unless you actively cultivate that sort of atmosphere. Most of us here are smart enough to know we're not in route lock territory. Or at least, I fucking hope so.
>>31111832>7KWell that probably my vote. How much was Bose Audiolocation?
>>31111850Neat. Thanks man. I can't be assed to try and see into all those layers of symbolism. Way too dumb.I HOPE we can get some good mods before the world explodes though. And get our friends to survive long enough to get SUPER MODZ too.Actually...>>31111832Yo Fall Guy, our friends gonna get better mods too?I hope so. I want their survivability to increase with ours.
>>31111832>Falconion Eye is 7,000 credits.>>31111867>How much was Bose Audiolocation?is there a pastebin with all this in it?
>>31111865I wanted to see what the ultimate shitstorm looked like. I wasn't prepared for it.>>311118678,500 Credits>>31111892Yeah, they've got some mods. Cy, Markos, and Tsukino in particular since they're more front line fighters. Elda and Niels are modded too, but not to the same extent as you four.>>31111895There might be, not sure...
>>31111934You know I gotta admit Fall Guy. I am really jelly of you.In a lot of ways. I wish I could be half as good as you are in my work.Keep being a rad dude. You do great work.
>>31112116Thanks anon, I'll keep trying
