You pound on the door, hoping to overcome the noise from inside the house. The yelling stops, and after a moment you hear footsteps followed by the opening of the door. Before you is Anastasia, dressed in a tight gown that shows off her curves.

"Oh, thank the Father. Listen, we need you to go talk to Annalise, she won't come out of her room."

Anastasia pulls you into the house and begins pushing you up toward Annalise's room. As you pass through the house, you notice streamers, tables and other small decorations being put together be a fee men in uniforms. Annalise's father seems to be directing them as her sisters fight with their mother over what you think are drinks. You expect the place to be beautiful once it's done.

You come to Annalise's door, and Anastasia knocks lightly. "Annalise? Sweetheart someone is hear to talk to you." Something crashes against the door.

"I'm not coming out and you can't make me! Go away, the party is cancelled!"

Anastasia shrugs and looks to you.

You squeeze through the door as best you can and shut it behind you. As you look around, you find a clay pot in shards by the door. The rest of the room seems otherwise fine, with an interesting gown draped over a model in the corner, and Annalise sitting on her bed dressed in a towel.

"I can't believe they want me to wear that stupid thing." Annalise stares angrily at her dress. It seems something about it troubled her deeply.

You approach the dress and look at it more closely.

It is white and red, and appears to be very ornate. There must be hundreds of pieces that must have come together to create this. The body piece looks somewhat tight, meant to show off slenderness, and comes to a tall collar at the top. There are frilled shoulders and long white gloves that are meant to start just above the elbow, with the fingers cut open. The skirt is long and brought out a bit wide. You don't see very much wrong with it, other than how much it must have cost for something that Annalise is only going to wear once.

You look back to Annalise. She seems more depressed than angry now.

You approach the bed and place an armored hand on the post. You tell her that it may not be much, but wrapped around her it should look just fine. You see her blush just before she hurls a pillow at you. You smile, and get one out of her as well. You then ask what's so bad about the dress.

"It's not really the dress, I guess. I'm just nervous. I don't know. My mom kept talking about how expensive it was the other day, and how everyone is supposed to be coming to see me in it because it's my big day and now I'm a woman or something, it's too much pressure. I never wanted all this stuff, I just wanted to be like my dad and my brother! Why do I have to have stupid girl parts?!" She throws another pillow, causing the dresss model to teeter a bit.

She tries taking several deep breaths and starting over, and though she gets a little further each time, she can't get more than four words in before she starts stuttering again. You agree to help Annalise, and feel her begin to shake against you, even through the plate. Eventually she peels herself off of you and steps back. She looks at the dress, then begins unfastening it to pull it off of the dummy. You heart aches a bit, and you feel a pit in your stomach as you catch yourself tracing Annalise's silhouette with your eyes. The towel reveals nearly everything, and yet the choicest areas are securely wrapped.

You cover your eyes with your plated arm just as Annalise removes her cover. Behind the metal you can hear her tossing the wrap away. She mentions something about brothers and sisters of the clergy being taught not to be ashamed of their bodies, but you continue to obscure your own vision. There is more sound of rustling cloth as she slips the gown over her head and straightens it out. You remove your arm and look at Annalise. The dress already seems a bit tight, squeezing her waist and pushing her chest up. Her face is red, as she stares at the ground.

"Well, here's me. I guess it's not that bad. It actually feels kind of nice, when it's you looking. Does it look okay? I mean I'm not as full as Anastasia, but is it alright?"

As Annalise fidgets and looks down at herself, you place your gloved hands on her shoulders. They seem much sturdier than you remember. She looks up at you with curious eyes, and you assure her she looks beautiful. She turns red again, and you have to give her a moment before you help her fasten her dress and tie up her collar. Once she has her gloves on, the final step is to help her into her shoes.

"You don't mind do you? I can hardly bend my waist in this corset." She laughs, but you help her just the same, slipping them on before she's finally ready to leave the room.

You march with her down the hall and into the parlor. The two of you stop at the entrance, as the ladies shout and quarrel. It isn't until Leman notices you and whistles for the noise to stop that everyone sees Annalise in all her glory. Both her mother and Annabelle are stricken speechless, while her other sisters merely smile and giggle. You steal a glance at Leman and Donnel as well, who seem just as happy. Anna runs over and nearly shoves you aside as she and Anastasia pull her into the kitchen to fix her hair. The first guests are set to arrive soon, and so they waste no time with her. Meanwhile, you are left alone in the parlor as Leman and Donnel discuss something under their breath, laughing occasionally.

The party starts soon after as the guests begin to arrive. After everyone is adequately stuffed with food and drink, the band begins playing, and Donnel breaks off from you and Leman to find Anna. The two of them really move despite their age. Leman leaves as well, hoping to speak to someone about some business across the ocean. Eventually, the party ends and the two of you say goodnight. Before you go, as her family goes to begin throwing away pounds of finger foods, Annalise stops you. She plants a peck on your cheek, thanking you for being so good to her tonight.

"It's only on the cheek for now, but maybe if you're good we can swap firsts. Maybe." She laughs and shuts the door behind you, leaving you to ride home alone in the cold night.

But it is clear that neither of you have changed your feelings, at least according to Annalise's sisters.

This continues until one hot summer day. As you sweat profusely in the weight room with the other paladins, working to maintain your body and all the well carved features thereof, someone enters. A young cleric to be exact. He weaves through the crowd of boisterous and half-nude warriors to speak to you.

You settle on a greasy steakhouse, and the two of you set to ordering. You eat and drink and catch up, laughing so loud that some of the other patrons must be going mad by the end of it all.

"...so there I was, one good saber left, staring this bastard in the face. He roars at me and I swear his breath must have been flammable. I mean it was like a corpse on the solstice. Anyway, he runs at me and the only thing I can think to do it jump up and hold onto his back. I clung for dear life as he tried to fling me into every tree in the forest. Finally I got a good grip, and stabbed him right in the spinal column. He screeched so loud I could hear ringing in my ears for a week! And that my friend, is how I got my final patch for slaying a minotaur. Which, actually brings me to the real reason I'm here. I'm going on a trip, and I want you to come with me."

Leon smiles and pounds on the table.

"Haha, I knew you'd be into it. See, to become a beret, I need to collect these totems from shrines all over the place. It's supposed to prove that I can survive when I'm put to the test. They're in some pretty awful places, but I'm so close to my dream, I can't just pass up this chance! If I refuse now, I won't have another shot until one of the berets dies! There can only ever be thirteen at a time, see. Anyway, I can't bring any other Rangers with me, but there's no rules against anybody else. So I wanted us to go, you and me, two hard as rock bastards collecting these pieces together. I've already found the one in the northern forest, and the one on Black Mountain. I just need one from the great swamp and the desert beyond the Red Sand, and I can become a beret! We should leave tonight, before dark so we can avoid the merchant traffic, what do you say?"

"Alright, fine. But I want to get going soon, so let's go ask her now, and get it out of the way, alright?" You think for a moment. "Alright then, have it your way. Since you have to get permission anyway, I'm going to go find a place to sleep for the night. I'll meet you at the palace tomorrow after lunch so we can leave. See you then." Leon rides off before you can get a word in edgewise. It seems like his years away have changed him from a timid boy to an impatient man. Still, deep down you sense he is the same, just excited to finally be near his dream. With that, you have the evening to yourself.

You decide to head to Annalise's house before tomorrow. If nothing else, you think it will be nice to spend time with her and think about your choices.

After she has a bath, the two of you play cards and chat for a few hours. She seems especially friendly tonight, for some odd reason. You try your best to be extra kind as well, and it does get noticed by her mother if no one else. You tell her you have something important to ask her, but that you want to wait until morning. After that, she seems to fall into giggling fits every time you try to change the subject. Once she is sufficiently sleepy, she heads off to bed and you head home.

The next morning you wash and pray, then head to the mess hall. As you much on toast, Annabelle and Anita approach you. They seem content to stare at you while you eat, until you ask them what the problem is. They assure you it's nothing, and walk away laughing and jabbing each other. You simply roll your eyes and finish your meal.

Once that's done, you're ready to ask Anna about the trip

You head there, dressed in your normal clothes.

When you arrive, you find the house mostly empty. It seems that only Annalise and Leman are around, and he is apparently resting for a mission tonight. Annalise invites you in and the two of you sit in the parlor. You notice that she seems more nervous than usual, but you push on. She mentions hearing about a Ranger in town yesterday, and you reveal that it was in fact Leon, and the two of you spoke over dinner. She smacks you on the shoulder, scolding you for not bringing him over. You then explain his plan to head south and then east, to collect the totems he needs for his promotion to Black Beret. You also mention his inviting the both of you to go along as well.

"Are you kidding, that sounds like a blast! My first time ever leaving the city and I get to go with both of you on a fun trip! Oh, but we'll need some supplies right? "Alright, I'll start packing what I need then. You go get him and come pick me up when it's time to leave. Oh, I'm really excited for this."

You do as Annalise says and head to the palace to wait for Leon. He appears as he promised, just after lunch time, riding his black horse. The saddlebags are still packed, and he seems ready to head out.

"Well, it looks like she couldn't make it, too bad. Cmon, let's go so we can use up all this sunlight." You inform Leon that Annalise is going. He sighs, but at the same time he seems relieved. "Fine, fine. Let's go get her."

The two of you ride to Annalise's house and dismount. When she answers the door, she pulls Leon into a hug and he responds politely. Annalise claims to be ready to head out, but a look at her bags says otherwise. She wears her sword on her hip as she should, but she also appears to have several weeks worth of food and water, as well as an entire bag full of strange trinkets that don't seem like they'll serve too much purpose on the road. When you ask about them, she lists most of them off as having very specific and rare purposes. Leon looks to you with a sly grin.

If we're lucky, we'll make it back with all of our limbs. If we aren't we probably won't make it back. But now isn't the time to worry, because the road calls to us!"

Leon mounts and begins trotting around the street as you and Annalise climb onto Pedro. The three of you ride south to the gates, and hit the southern road to the swamps of the far south.

The three of you ride south for nearly six days. Annalise, being of poor skill on horse and not knowing the trick to sleeping whilst riding, seems content to sit behind you and use you as a bed when night falls.

Today, Leon spies a village ahead, but a peculiar one. There seem to be siege walls surrounding it, but there is no sign of any army around. Annalise isn't a fan of it, but Leon seems quite curious. And besides, you haven't had a good meal or warm bed since you left.

You and Leon outvote Annalise. Pouty as she may be, she doesn't try to stop the two of you from riding up to the walls of the town. The walls themselves are made from great logs, sharpened at the mill and dug into the ground. It would take a full force to tear these down, but you suggest to Leon that all walls must have a gate. Sure enough, after riding around, you find an entrance. There doesn't appear to be anyone guarding it though.

Leon calls out, asking for anyone around to come forth. All that you hear is a weak voice from the other side.

"Begone beasts! You will not trick us again!" Leon looks over to you and shrugs.

It had been quite some time bro. I'll start going back to the other threads and collecting lore pieces, if you release more episodes about this setting it'd be great too. If the end result is any good I'll post it here...

"As if you don't know! No matter what you say, I'm not opening this blasted gate after you've eaten three of us!" You try to at least ascertain what kind of creature they're talking about, but before the gateman answers you, Leon jumps in.

"Found it. If I'm right, and I really hope I'm not right, we might be dealing with a wight. The great swamp in known for once being home to a great number of talented necromancers. They caused all sorts of trouble a few centuries ago. I don't know if there are any left, but it seems like the most likely answer." You and Annalise hop down from Pedro to look at the book. The page Leon has stopped on has a large body of text as well as some very detailed sketches. The creatures he points to seem to look human, save for dried skin and empty eye sockets. Annalise seems a bit intrigued by them.

You turn back to the gate and explain that you can help with their problem if they'll let you in, but the gateman still seems set on you being one of them. As you try to puzzle out an alternate way, Annalise begins scaling the wall. Leon sees as well, and cheers her on.

You meander over to the wall beneath her, ready if something goes wrong. You also notice how form fitting her leathers are beneath her robes.

Annalise makes it to the top and hops over. There is a commotion of yelling and what sounds like things being thrown at the wooden wall, but in time it ceases. Annalise explains her humanity to the people on the other side, and soon the gates begin to slide open, just enough for you and Leon to squeeze the horses in. You do so, and enter the village.

The place is quite upscale, especially compared to your own hometown. Solid wood walls and log rooftops. The people inside do not fare so well. The men guarding the gate look tired, and beaten down. Everyone within is thin and seems to pull away at the slightest glance. The creatures outside must be quite frightful. "I expect these things will come out at night. Undead don't often like sunlight. That being the case, we'll need torches, lanterns, something to light the way. If we're going to ride them down we need to see. Furthermore, undead fear fire, and while my companions may have that covered, I'd like it if I had a jar of pitch for my own, to set arrows alit." As Leon speaks, Annalise chimes in.

"Ride them down? Are you mad? We have no idea how many there are or if they're armed. We could be marching into a slaughter. We should set up a defense around the town, and handle them that way."

"Eh, that's what I'd expect from someone raised in a manse by nannies and nurses. If we only defend, they'll just wait until we leave to strike again. The best way is to bring the fight to them!"

The two of them begin a shouting match so pitched that the old man begins to draw back in fear. It might be lucky that neither of them brought steel up to the house with them.

then there's the fact to lure them we wouldn't need to actually engage them in combat until we arrived at our destination, but it
means we will engage them for sure

Let your enemy believe you're at your weakest so he strikes at the point is most beneficial to you

You step in and break the fight up, proposing instead that you draw the monsters out and into a trap, to gain both the element of surprise and the ability to fight on your own terms. At first, it doesn't go over well, as Annalise and Leon seem bent on fighting for the sake of fighting, but after they calm down, they agree that it might be best.

"But these things are intelligent. They can speak the words of men, and use weapons just like them as well. A simple pitfall won't be enough to trick them. It would have to be more complicated."

Other than than, they have no blood, no eyes, and either eat souls or living flesh. Either way, we don't want to be captured." You nod, taking into account what Leon has told you. "She's right. Well, mostly. I'd wager I'm a rank higher than you as a dodger, and if you go out in a bunch of shiny plate the wights will catch on quick. It's better if I go alone and bring them to you."

The three of you begin discussing possible ways to entrap the enemy.

Leon suggests a simple ambush. You and Annalise will hide and wait for him to bring the targets to you, and then spring out and strike them down. Any survivors can be tracked easily.

Annalise suggests doing things a bit more complex. You can spend the rest of the day setting wires, too difficult to see in the dark, that will pen up the enemies. At the very least it will slow them down, but it will limit your movement just as much as theirs.

A) Go with Leon's plan
B) Go with Annalise's plan
C) Come up with your own

You decide on a plan, and a simple one at that. That settled, Leon decides to begin scouting the area while the sunlight still protects him. Annalise says she'd like to begin helping around the town as much as she can, but assures you that you can do as you like.

You decide to help Annalise see to the villagers while Leon scouts alone. The group splits, and the two of you remaining set to work.

It seems that the town has been rationing food and water quite hard. Men get the largest portion, followed by mothers, then women and children, and finally elders. With Annalise's help, you are able to generate a good deal more clean drinking water, but no food. As Annalise helps tend the sick, you help some of the guardsmen reinforce the walls. Thanks to your strong back and legs, a gift from the Father if ever there was one, you are able to straighten the siege walls as well as lug around a few cartloads of tools and soil.

The sun begins to set, and Leon slips back in covered in dirt and twigs. He seems to have a good lay of the area now, and is ready to set out as soon as you two are. Annalise seems quite energetic, but you are a bit worn out. You think a short nap and a snack might fix you up, but you would be wasting time that could be used to operate. Annalise sees the slouch in your shoulders and asks if you'll be alright to go.

A) Have a short rest

You tell the others to let you have a quick nap before you set out. They agree, and both climb to the top of the wall to keep lookout.

One of the villagers, a widow whose husband was among the first to be taken away, allows you into her home and gives you leave to use her bed. You don't want to put her out, but she insists, and even provides you with a warm quilt. You strip your armor off and lay down, asking her to wake you in two hours at the very most. She nods, and leaves you.

Time passes, and before you know it you're being shaken awake by the kind widow. She brings you a small basin to wash, and you thank her. Once your armor is back on, you pick up your zweihander and sling it on your back, then step outside. You find Annalise and Leon standing near the horses. Leon seems to be rubbing his shoulder quite a bit as you approach.

"It's about time. Let's get going before the owls are out. Hopefully I don't need my right arm to fight, seeing as how your shadow saw fit to knock me off the damn wall while we were on lookout." You turn to Annalise.

"It's his own fault. He's the one who kept commenting on my balance, it serves him right." You settle them both down and the three of you begin preparing for the mission.

You decide it's best to leave the horses here, for various reasons. Leon doesn't seem keen on complaining, nor does Annalise. With that, the three of you slip out the gate and into the dark forest.

You walk for a while, guided by torchlight. Leon is quite skilled at memorizing paths, and in no time at all he brings you to the bottom of a small cliff. You begin setting up here.

"Now I'll move around for a while and get their attention. Keep my swords safe, I can't risk them noticing I'm armed. When I get them, I'll bring them here and jump down the cliff, pretending to hurt myself. They won't be able to resist."

You sit on opposite ends of the rock face, watching the stars through the leafy canopy above. Time passes. You eventually pick up a small stick and begins drawing in the dirt to kill time. You create a rather well made sketch of the three of you together, although the smiles seem a bit odd for the group.

"It's a bit chilly. I guess that's winter for you." Annalise speaks, staring at a leaf a few feet away from her. She seems somewhat distant.

"Your just like Leman, you know. Trying to be nice, but still wearing all that cold metal." Before you can speak, she turns away and gently sets herself in your lap, taking your hands and bringing them around her waist. "There, that's a little better."

You feel her weight on you, heavy and soft. Still, there is a steel wall that separates you from making true contact. And as nice as it is to be here, it's not strictly strategically sound.

You squeeze Annalise gently and press your cheek to hers. She nudges back. You explain that while you enjoy this, it's not safe to be tangled up when Leon comes back.

"Fine, but you owe me later." Annalise releases herself and stands, moving forward to allow you to rise as well. You aren't sure if the wiggle in her hips is your mind, or her intent, but either way you separate and return to your respective spots on opposite ends of the rock face.

What seems like hours go by, punctuated by the hooting of night owls and tiny peeps of the field mice that evade them. You sense yourself dozing a few times, but a good slap to the cheek fixes that. Finally, you hear noise approaching. It's very faint at first, but in a few moments it picks up. Shouting, and boots on dirt. The squishing of mud. A high pitched sort of cry, that you are totally unfamiliar with. At that, you and Annalise both rise. You both draw steel, and you pick up Leon's twins as well.

The sound grows louder and louder, until finally it feel too near for comfort. Suddenly something falls from above, rolls on the ground, and lies still. Your eyes take a minute to adjust, but sure enough it is a heap of green. From both sides of the cliff face, dark figures begin to run for the heap. Ten, eleven, twelve, maybe thirteen of them total. You and Annalise are concealed by the dark as they slowly approach the heap of green, cackling grotesquely.

You and Annalise charge headlong into the crowd, surprising them and scattering the, slightly. As you drive them off of Leon and drop his twins, Annalise uses her agility to get around them and begin pushing them back toward the cliff. From across the crowd, Annalise draws her symbol and begins casting a miracle that will strengthen the power of a weapon.

Annalise's holy symbol begins to glow a fierce gold. You hold your enormous blade aloft, and as the light fades from her symbol, your weapon begins to burn bright, until shining golden flames engulf it. When you bring it back down, the golden fire trails behind. Now the wights appear frightened, but then do not give quarter.

They begins spreading out and attacking, focusing mostly on overwhelming with their numbers. Seven of them rush you, while three and three divide up to fight the others.

This leaves four of them pushing you back, and though the flames of your blades burn their shields, they seem to hold strong. One of them, armed with a spear, begins jabbing at you to separate you from your allies, while still hiding behind his tower shield.

He looks quite similar to a starved man, with dry, leathery skin as grey as soot. His mouth hangs open, revealing lack of a tongue, and his eye sockets are completely empty, leading only into blackness.

You kick his shield away, stomping on his wrist to be sure he doesn't raise it again. Then, you turn your blade down and stab him in the chest, setting him on fire. Suddenly something bashes into your back, causing you to stumble forward. You wheel around to see the other wights coming down on you, fast.

You raise your sword and attempt to step forward, but your haste has stolen your caution, and you find you back leg stuck in the mud. Off balance and slow, you take a shield in the face from one of the wights, knocking you to the ground. The other takes his axe and brings it down on your chest with both hands, denting your armor. There are three now, one armed with the axe, slow but powerful, one with a longsword, which may not have much luck breaking mail, and the final one takes up his comrade's spear, and begins to approach.

You reach up and grab a hold of the axe wight's belt, using all your strength to pull him down into the mud with you. The others begin raining blows down, but you focus on your task. As he lies face down in the dirt, you bring your fist upon him with the weight of a sledge, driving his rotted teeth into the ground. You reckon if he had any feeling left in his bones, he'd be feeling it now.

The wights begin slashing at your comparatively unguarded legs, likely in an attempt to slow you. You roll away and get to your feet, feeling the stinging pain of cuts from filthy, chipped blades. The wights screech, high enough to crack glass, you think, and charge at you.

You bring your sword around and down, bifurcating the spearman as he lets out another shrill cry.

The swordsman takes advantage of your momentary slowness, and thrust his weapon at you. You manage to turn away, but the blade slices open your bicep just the same. You are forced to deliver the final blow one handed, slowing you a bit, but thanks to Annalise's miracle, the fire is enough to finish him.

You turn to see the others finishing their own battles. You approach, but not in time to help. You watch as Annalise begins healing a wound in her side, and Leon beheads one of the wights with a single strong cleave of his sword. You gather back together. Annalise notices the blood dripping from your arm and legs, and you both see that Leon's left arm is in need of treatment.

"Cmon, both of you. Let's get back to town so I can start healing you both."

"No, there are more wights, I saw them on the way here. If we hurry, we can catch them before they realize what's happened here."

"You imbecile, you can't do anything with one swordarm!"

You agree to go with Leon to finish of the wights, asking Annalise to do what she can to stop the bleeding of your wounds for now.

"I didn't come along with you two to be a mobile hospital, you know. Ugh. Fine, if you must get yourselves killed over a stupid hunt, then I hope you both have plenty of fun doing it." Annalise presses her symbol on Leon's arm, burning him, but sealing the wound. She does the same to your injuries. You've heard of this sort of thing before. It's a much quicker, yet slightly messier and very painful healing technique that the clerics discourage. Only inquisitors still seem to use it, as scars are their pride. As soon as she's done, Annalise strides back to the village, ignoring any words you or Leon shout at her. Eventually, Leon gives up and heads deeper into the woods and you follow.

The two of you find tracks in a few minutes, and hastily follow them. They bring you to a small cave, that Leon theorizes is the daytime home of the wights. In all likelihood, they are prepared for your attack, but their numbers won't be half as high. You follow Leon for what feels like a quarter mile of tunnel before you finally emerge into a large underground lake. The water smells foul, and is lit by the moon above via a large fissure too high to drop in from. Leon holds the torch loft, searching for any sign of the wights. You and Leon slide down the rock hill toward the lake shore, trying your best to ignore the foul stench wafting from it. At the bottom, you draw steel and march at the shack. The wights burst from inside, armed and ready. One of the looses a crossbow bolt, but your Golden Aegis stops it in mid-air, shattering it to splinters. Leon takes the chance to rush in and begin slicing up the creatures, and you follow. Together you dispatch five in total, leaving them as mounds of limbs and dry viscera on the floor.

"Haha! Yes! I can check that off my list of shit to murder, eh?" Leon grabs your forearm, both of you panting heavily. Some of your wounds have reopened, along with some new ones you obtained from the fight, but the wights were frightened, and had no strength left to battle, leaving the victory well within your grasp.

"I think that's all of them. At least all the ones I saw. If there's more, they won't attack the town now, I promise that. Think we should be getting back?"

You find no sign of more wights, but you do come across some of their weapons. You pick up a dagger in particularly good condition and tie it to your belt. Leon also picks up a few silver coins, either remnants from their past lives or just chance drops by some unknown stranger.

"Ah, see here. Here's the cause of the trouble." Leon calls you over to inspect one of the fallen. "This one still has his tongue. Some lazy undertaker didn't do his job. You want to make sure these things are removed, or the wight retains certain abilities." At any rate, you spend two hours scouring, and come up with nothing. You decide to head back

You tell the villagers that they are safe from the creatures for the foreseeable future, but it would benefit them to be cautious for the time being. Hugs and kisses are exchanged among them, and to your surprise there are even a few offers of daughters and wards. You and Leon are forced to turn them down, but Leon does not turn down wine and food. He invites you to come, but you decide instead to look for Annalise. After asking around, you discover she has taken up refuge in an empty house, who's resident was taken away four weeks ago. You go there.

The house is small, three rooms it seems like, and the door doesn't seem locked. You let yourself in and look around. All is quiet, and the hearth remains cold. You find the bedroom door.

You push the door open. The old hinges creak as you enter the bedroom, dark and warm. Once your eyes adjust, you see Annalise's form curled on the bed. Her leathers are folded and set on a nearby chair, but she must be wearing her robes for warmth. There is also a quilt over her. She doesn't move, but you can't hear her breath to measure the tempo.

You slowly make your way to the bed.

Annalise moves. You stop. Then she moves again and sits upright. The dark makes it impossible to makeout her face, but she does seem to be looking at you.

"What? Need me to sew you up again? Or does Leon want to head out already now that I've gotten comfortable?" She drops backward onto the bed, turning away from you. "If you aren't missing a limb, then save it for morning. The clinic is closed for tonight."

You approach the bed and sit down, reminding her of the debt you owe her from earlier that night. You feel her moving around, and then her hands on your shoulders.

"Actually, you're right. Close your eyes." You listen, and she moves more, shifting around for something. That something turns out to be a mule kick to your back, sending you off the bed and onto the wood floor with a clatter. You bonk your head a bit, which gives you a slight headache. When you turn over and look up at her, she is sat on the edge of the bed lighting a candle so that you can see her face.

"First of all, after what we went through tonight and everything I said, what makes you think I'm in the mood for anything of the sort? Second, what makes you think you're so fantastic you can walk in on the daughter of Donnel the White and act so cool, as if I'm to be the one melting over you? And thirdly, if you're going to sit on the bed the least you could do is take off that filthy armor so you don't mess these nice sheets which, may I remind you, are a gift that we are not owed from these people!?" Annalise glares at you from the bed, awaiting your response.

You stand up and apologize, dusting yourself of and allowing bits of mud to fall to the floor. Annalise sets the candle down on the bedside table and get up.

"You'll never stop being an ignorant farm boy, will you?" She approaches and moves behind you, then starts to unfasten your half-plate. The two of you work to remove the steel and padding, setting is aside on the floor. Before you know it, Annalise has reached around and pulled the drawstring to your trousers as well.

"Your boots too." You comply and soon are down to your boxers and tunic. "You're still the smelly, stupid, mean boy who left me to go hunt squirrels in the woods six years ago. But, I sort of like you for that. You know something I learned in the archive? It's very interesting. Lay down."

You sit, and Annalise shoves you down on your front. You think about resisting with strength, but something in the back of your head stops you. Annalise hops up and sits on top of you, right in the bend of your spine.

"Wolves live in packs, just like people. But wolves do have differences. For instance, two wolves, a male and female, are the center of the group. They eat first, and breed most often. They're almost like parents. On top of that," Annalise turns and lays on her back, resting her head on the back of yours. "The female leader has the most sway over the group. I suppose that's because she has the pups." Annalise rolls over onto the mattress, facing away. "Give me your arm, I'm cold."

You do as she says, and she takes your arm and wraps it around herself, tucking it under her stomach before pulling the quilt up around both of you.

"I'm sorry for getting so angry. I don't mean to. I suppose I just spent so much time being the runt that I feel like I have to bare my fangs to get my way. But I don't want to drive you away. So, I want to make a deal. I'll keep my head out there, on the road. No matter what happens, I'll stay calm. But in exchange, you have to promise that as long as we're together, alone like this, I get to let it all out. I don't care about being the alpha wolf. I just want somewhere to let my emotions go. Deal?"

You pull Annalise against you, and agree to her terms. She lets out a small cry of surprise. In a moment though, she is laughing.

"I suppose it isn't fair to make a deal where I get everything and you have to put up with me. So, go ahead. Name it. What's the price of my tears to you?"
