>I'm angry about this quest not being finished, and I have some free time tonight.

I went to bed after that last revelation, and found myself back in that strange field.

"Hey." The man- Merlin I think?- Greets me. "I have something of a plan. It's not perfect, but if we get the sheath and you manage to keep Saber around, we can give it to your sister."

"That would fix whatever her problem is?"

"No, like I said it's not perfect, but it would buy us time for a better solution. Right now we could have as little as a year, depending on circumstances. With this we would have closer to a decade."

".... A year?"

"Roughly a year before her condition would degrade to the point where we couldn't help her." He responds by shaking his head. "After that she might have a while, days.... hell, maybe months." He shrugged, giving me a somewhat sad look. "Honestly, I'm not sure how optimistic we should be about buying that time. There might not BE a cure. Even so, those few extra years would be years she wouldn't otherwise have." His demeanor suddenly changes, becoming more serious and businesslike. "All that though is for nothing if we can't win the battle in front of us and stop whatever Avenger is planning. I'm not sure we'll be able to meet again before this war is over, so if you have anymore questions now is the time."

>?

Fucking Runes. How do they work?

And huh, I thought the last thread got cut off over a phonecall with Archer.

Any concrete ideas on how to keep servants around after the war? If so then we'll have three possibly four servants on side.

It got cutoff after AC-Guy landed on his balls getting close to table-kun.

We need a way to fix the grail after Avenger is dealt with. We can just get Caster to plug Zelretch into the the grail afterwards and get true incarnation for Caster, Rider, and Saber if we want to. Whatever we ask, it should focus on fixing the grail.

Now I'm going to reread the early threads and see if the solution to fixing the grail was something other than "Stick the uncorruptable Avalon inside the grail"

>That might have been the plan.

It's been too long.

>>
>>31110506
Wait that's right, we have the Jewel Sword right? Otherwise known as infinite mana sword of +1. Not to forget we can also make more of them.
>>
>>31110356
> "I have a magic sword with potentially unlimited power, where the hell do I point it at to stop Avenger and his plan?"
> "Barring that, will this sword attract the attention of the Wizard Marshall himself so Rin can point him towards the source of all the bad stuff that's happening with the Grail?"
> "Can Rider jump into this dream too? I might need an extra head to think over this stuff."

I'll add some more if I can come up with them.
>>
>>31110637
If AC-Guy's serious about us moving into the end game, then the To-Do list is a bit irrelevant. What we need to do is start brainstorming end game plans.

And this time we make an easy to find list.
>>
>>31110637
You're not alone, I cannot remember a single thing we might of had planned other than "Beat avenger. Kill Gilgamesh. Beat Shinji for the hell of it. Engage full EVERYBODY LIVES route."
>>
>>31110356
So the first time we spoke, he was super, super cryptic about everything we needed to do. Highlights include:

>The important thing to remember is that you can't save her the way things are now. When she changes back, the sheath is the Key.
"When she changes back" is something I'd like a bit of clarification on, unless it's referring obliquely to the loss of the Servant contract.
>Well, it's more like the lock than the key in reality, and not her sheath but rather it's SHADOW. Because you can't really use the real thing in the intended manner.
I'd assume that the shadow of the sheath means the imprint it left rather than the sheath itself? Something we can use a projected copy for but not the real thing, I guess? I dunno.

>To succeed, you first need to fail and destroy the source of your Shadow, and kill yourself.
"Failing" in this context probably means allowing for the manifestation of the tainted Greater Grail, in order to gain access to the source (Angra Mainyu) of our Shadow (Avenger) so we can destroy it.

"and kill yourself" I guess means taking out Avenger, judging by the follow-up
>"What?! Why would I want you dead? You're the only one who-" He blinks. "Dear Christ, she hasn't told you anything, has she?"

This is all from before we explained a lot of the shit that's gotten way out of hand, though, so things might not be the same now.

Maybe ask how much of his previous plotting (and which elements in particular) are still salient after taking into account what we've since told him about the current state of affairs?
>>
>>31110714
This is everything I have right now for end-game plans:

We need some way to make sure the Caster-Rider-Saber alliance lasts until the end. Caster is, at best, nonagressive towards us. That will change to openly hostile when Avenger and Gil are dealt with. Telling her we can easily fill the grail without killing Servants might be enough.

Gilgamesh... How close are we to using Unlimited Blade Works? Or are we still even capable of materializing it with how different we are from the Shirou that EMIYA spawned from?

Actually, why don't we ask Merlin while he's here if we can materialize UBW?

As for Avenger... Well on the bright side he's about as fucked as we are when it comes to coherent plans.
>>
Also, reading through past threads yields a couple gems.

5th Verse
>"Incidentally, I don't think I'll be adding characters from other Nasuverse series. I'm barely familiar enough with Fate to not completely fuck over everything."
Oh you.
>>
>>31110476

"The runes.... He already did whatever he was doing with those runes, and it doesn't seem like it's going to have any impact on the war itself. As for what he was doing.... He wanted a bunch of ambient energy gathered together, and then he took it in parcels to his camp in the mountains. After a point he dispelled the system and left the camp."

"... So what was he doing, if not affecting the war?"

"I have a few guesses, but I think we should stay focused on the matter at hand."

>>31110506
>>31110604

".... Purifying the Grail entirely might be beyond Avalon. I mean, yes it IS incorruptible, but just because the darkness has no power over it doesn't mean it can reject the darkness entirely. We might not be able to 'fix' the grail, but maybe there's a way to keep the darker part of it at bay? A filter? Either that or destroy it somehow."

"... But that would mean...."

"Yes, and I would prefer it otherwise too. But a handful of people against the fate of the world?" He puts a hand on my shoulder. "I'm trying to keep you from having to make that call."

>>31110684

"Power is a good start. I wouldn't recommend using it wildly, since it would have... consequences."

"It might very well attract his attention. His and many others, but if things have escalated to the point where you've unsheathed that sword.... I'm not sure you can count on outside help arriving in time."

"Rider joining in might collapse the link. If it wasn't so difficult to establish in the first place I would be talking with you more often."

>>31110825

".... I... I don't remember this conversation?"

"Are you saying it wasn't you?"

"No, I'm saying it might not have happened for me yet. So now I have to go back and be vague and infuriating to set you on this path apparently."

"So you don't know what any of that means?"

"I have a few guesses, but clearly I knew something I couldn't tell you directly because I needed to be vague so we would have this conversation."

"...WHAT."
>>
>>31111038
"Right well is there anything left that you can tell me that could help? If this is the last time we talk I want all the complete information you can give me. You have guesses about stuff then let me know."

>".... I... I don't remember this conversation?"
Do you purge yourself of your memories everytime we finish on of these dream conversations?

Good policy if that's the case, but it's a headache to decipher on our end.

Also, that damn clearing was a trap. How you detected my prescence there while I'm here the whole time just baffles me to no end.

I would cite Simulacrum shenanigans courtesy of Zouken, but the timing doesn't seem to match up.
>>
>>31111332

>>
>>31111175

"Killing Zouken like you were planning seems like a good start. Hell I could probably fix whatever Sakura's problem was if I were there, if that still worries you. Or I might be able to pass along something like a cure or hint leading to a cure or whatever later on. Because-"

"No, I get it. You can't tell me everything because of.... reasons."

"If it makes you feel better, I find it just as infuriating as you do. Believe it or not, this is actually the best possible way I can find to do these things."

>>31111192

"Most of our two conversations. Well, probably the last two conversations from your perspective, where we had the chessboard and then I told you how you could safely get rider's blindfold off."

>>31111332

"Sorry I couldn't warn you about the body-double thing directly by the way. But if you knew then you would have had your freak-out moment when the not-you could have taken a hostage."

"The campsite also solidifies what we were already guessing at, if it was Avenger's camp. There's some sort of a weird connection there, if I was seeing you there and not in your house. If you had investigated it sooner we might have more information, but I can't really fault your caution either." He smiles weakly. "I mean, I would've, but I've been trained for these things. You're kinda flying blind on nothing. Your progress is nothing short of incredible, actually."
>>
>>31111424
>I told you how you could safely get rider's blindfold off.
Did you?

Did he?
>>
Ugh, so even the fact that he thinks this is going to be the last time we speak to him before the war ends is speculation because he's experiencing our conversations out of order?

Fuckin' time. If we ever run into Zelretch, we're going to give him a piece of our mind, phenomenal cosmic power be damned.

>>31111424
>There's some sort of a weird connection there, if I was seeing you there and not in your house.
Can he trace that connection through our dream-self into our meat-self and figure out where it leads and/or what the bridge actually is?

We know it's metaphysically sword-shaped, but we don't know any of what caused it, what its purpose is, or where it leads (even if we do have reasonable speculation about any or all of those.)
>>

"Didn't I?"

"You don't know?"

"I'm reading these conversations out of your head from the past, and then programming you to hallucinate them through the initial summoning connection you made with Saber via Avalon. We aren't actually talking and I can't really guarantee accuracy on the timing of these things."

"I.... I'm not fully sure I understood that."

>>31111557

"Eh.... doubtful." He puts a hand on my chest, like he's feeling around for something. "No, I don't think I can."

"Why not?"

"Well for one it's more connected to him-you than you-you, which means it would be harder anyway. Secondly, I'm trying to scry a connection that from my perspective doesn't exist yet, through a proxy. Which isn't even the thing I'm supposed to be looking for, since I need to look past the connection to find what you think you're looking for. I'm good, but I can't work those kind of miracles back to back."

"So what CAN you tell me?"

"That you might already know the answer to this one. I get the feeling that when it matters you'll know?" He shrugs. "Which isn't even me being vague. I see a lot of static in your immediate future. Things are too vague for me to accurately predict at the moment."

"In theory, yes. In practice.... Only one instance of a person would have to become a heroic spirit. If there were any two timelines that resulted in Archer happening, he couldn't fully sever himself even if he managed to engineer a situation where he could kill both of his past selves."

"So Archer...."

"Is a sort of conglomerated generalization of all the Shirous that ended up as him. No full on Paradox, because the universe would just continually read him as every other Shirou but the one who died. Now, if there was only one 'Archer' timeline and one Shirou that could go there.... then yeah, it might actually work. But I don't think that's going to happen."

>>31112477

"I want her to be happy. Her emotional connection to you, and by extension everyone else here, might be enough to convince her to let go of the past and gain some measure of happiness here, away from all of that. I want her to be here, carefree and happy after the wars over, for as long as can possibly happen. She deserves something unequivocally good for herself after everything that's happened to her."

"....No? I mean, there would already be an Avalon from then, so there couldn't be more than one." He stops to think. "Actually, I have no idea WHAT would happen there. But I can't see it being her avoiding her fate, sadly."
>>
>>31112526

".... Reasonable, actually." He thinks for a moment, eyes distant before suddenly a sting of numbers pops into my head. "The actual drawing is in Kyoto in about three months. It would be unclaimed for a year or two before getting claimed by a Yakuza rigging for drug-running. So yeah, you getting it was the better option."

"I... hadn't asked yet?"

"Yeah, but you were probably going to." He looks around and away. "Listen, Saber and Avalon, not just the key for what I want, but also the key for helping your sister, at least in the short term. I hate to say it, but if shes reluctant to be a burden or something, that might be an ace you can use against her."

"That seems.... sleazy?"

"I didn't say guilt your way into her pants. I said force her to stay in happy good place by playing into her do-gooder mentality." He claps me on the shoulder one last time, smiling. "Now I think it's time for you to wake up and actually do all these heroic things."

Revealing it to Saber is probably not a good idea, since even though she definitely respected the man, he also kind of drives her up the wall.

Learning that even PART of this whole clusterfuck was his doing, especially if it comes to light that he was doing it in hopes of railroading her away from her path and toward accepting her failures, couldn't possibly be good for morale. We don't need Saber to have any more reasons to feel reluctant about sticking around.

Not to mention...
34th Verse
>Q: What is your plan, how do I fit into it; and if it involves saving someone, why do you think I'd object to helping you?

>Merlin: "My plan is to give someone the happy ending they deserved because I'm bitter and hate how bad things happen to good people." He looks at you. "Honestly, it originally involved making you live a lonely life where you suffered forever and died rejecting the world. I think I can revise that a bit now."
If this got out, Archer probably wouldn't be terribly amused.

I feel like keeping our across-space-and-time fuckery limited to our dreams and whatever Second Magic shenanigans we're going to end up getting into is probably a good idea.
>>
Mm. So plan is, get breakfast, dictate plans to our lieutenants?
>>

And then it all comes out anyway and everyone is once again completely floored at the sheer depth and convolutedness of the level we operate on.
>>
I dress quickly, and find a table waiting for me when I come out. "Did I oversleep that much?"

"Not really." Rin responds, buttering a piece of toast. "We weren't going to let you sleep through breakfast, but if you were tired enough to not wake up on your own, maybe you needed that extra hour of sleep."

"Alright..." I sit down at the table. "So, we have the Jewel Sword thing. What exactly does that mean? We just have infinite mana?"

"Not... not quite." Rin responds, shaking her head. "I mean, the sorcery involved would let us do that, and having the sword means I might be able to learn it and teach it to others. But just having the sword...."

"So we didn't just get massive mana battery?"

"We sort-of did?" She answers slowly. "I just don't know how I could use it with that sort of finesse."

"Which means?"

"Giant magic blasts. Really powerful, but I don't know how much more than that I can do." She answers, frustrated. "I'm not sure how much of it is the limitations of the item and how much of it is me just not knowing yet, but...."

Before I can say anything, Sakura puts her hand on Rin's, surprising both of us. "It's alright, Neesan. It's really complicated, right?" Rin nods. "Then you just need more time."

"But do we HAVE more time?" Rider asks, posing the question we were all thinking.

"Unless she's considerably smarter than any of us realized, I wouldn't think we'll learn anything we could practically use in the next few months, much less the next few days." Ilya comments with a fair degree of practicality. "She can create giant energy blasts. That's more than we had before, so what else do we have?" She looks contemplative. "Two servants, a Master with a fair degree of competence in direct combat with them, and a pair of Magi with a small degree of schooling in the True Magics. This is also discounting our allies."

"It says something about the opposition that we don't consider those a crushing advantage." Saber adds, looking around.

>?
>>
>>31113503
We need to get Rin a Kaleidostick. Well, no, we don't, and in fact that would be a terrible thing to do to the story.

But holy shit I would laugh so hard.
>>
>>31113503
"We could call Caster?"
>>
Should we fill them in on some of the Merlin info?
>>
>>31113503
Caster wants to live and Lancer wants to fight. We should assure them we can make that happen.

*After breakfast visit Issei, 'cuse Archer
>>
>>31113552

It already exist.

It's at Rin's house.

In the multi-dimensional wooden trunk.
>>
>>31113503
All right then. That's what we got. What the people we don't winning got, we don't know. So what do we do with our time? Do we know where the battles are going to go down yet?

>>31113552 has a decent, if twisted point, are there any other magical artefacts we can get our hands on?
>>
>>31113589
Absolutely not.
>>
>>31113589
That would be bad, also THREAD!!!
>>
>>31113608

Well the Kaleidostick is within easy reach...

...And we can give it to illya.

She won't have to worry about not being able to defend herself.
>>
Ah. Damn. The sword DOESN'T grant us functionally infinite prana.

Because I'm reasonably sure that would let us break everything. The main way I was thinking of was... Well.

What does Shirou's magic center around creating? And what, from a magical perspective, IS SHIROU? If we could trace ourselves, that'd probably go a long way to dealing with Avenger.
>>
>>31113683
>Hey, hey Avenger, hey, I sorta genre-shifted the whole story while you weren't looking, we Mahou Shoujo now. Sorry about that.
>>
>>31113790
It does, we just cant direct it properly.
Which is why we should talk to Caster.
>>
>>31113797

I'm ok with this actually.

Makes the everyone lives option more feasible.
>>
>>31113835
Are we sure that's the best of ideas? I mean I trust Caster up to a point, but at the end of the day we're really just allies of convenience. I worry that having True Magic dangled in front of her face might cause her Dickass Wizard side to act up and next thing we know she's trying to steal our jewel sword.
>>
>>31113864
>form a study group with Rin and Ilya
>suddenly has two cute apprentices to teach ye olde magicks to
>"Ne ne Caster-sama, how do I complete this formula, again? I forgot."
>and
>"I-it's not like I want your help or anything, I'm just making sure you know what you're doing!"
>>
>>31113503
At this point, maybe finesse is out the window and we should just go smack them down?

Should we Recall Archer or have him there as a kinfe-in-the-gut on standby?
>>
>>31113937
>smack down
So challenge Avenger to a wrestling match?

Anyway, consensus here seems to be getting in touch with Caster? At least she might give some ideas on how to use the gem-sword
>>
>>31114053
Consensus? In *my* FSA?

Seriously, I think we should hold off on caster talks until we actually decide what the fuck we're going to *do* first.
>>
>>31114082
>until we actually decide what the fuck we're going to *do* first.
I really doubt such long-term planning is going to do any good now, both inside and outside of quest

Besides having Merlin advise Shirou in his dreams, are we still withholding info on the rest of the alliance?
Like Shirou's arrangement with Archer, as well as the existence of Shirou's Magic Crest?

Might need to lay these cards into the table, if even Saber has apprehensions with future encounters with Avenger.
>>
>>31117482
Why were we even holding our alliance with Archer in secret again? To prevent Saber or Rider from setting out to wreck him?
By the way, I wonder how he keeps himself alive
>>
>>31117777
>Why were we even holding our alliance with Archer in secret again? To prevent Saber or Rider from setting out to wreck him?

So he can double-agent for us.
The more people who are in on it, the less chance it has of being successful.

That and everyone but us kinda has a hate-on for Archer since his sudden yet inevitable betrayal.

>By the way, I wonder how he keeps himself alive
Independent action. Also I suspect he's getting mojo from Avenger somehow.
>>
>>31117856
>Independent action
But that only lasts for like three days, and he still gets really weak as time goes on
>So he can double-agent for us
That would imply he's on good terms with Avenger and co.
>>
>>31118519
>But that only lasts for like three days, and he still gets really weak as time goes on
So, like I said, he's probably cadging mojo off of Avenger or something as a stopgap.

>That would imply he's on good terms with Avenger and co.
He doesn't need to be on good terms, just in a position where he can keep an eye on them and backstab them if needed.

Which e is right now, though Avenger seems to be onto him.
>>
>>31115264
My understanding of luck in the nasuverse is that it isn't so much "AHAHAHAHAA look at all the shit happening to you" but more "Roll a die, on the lowest number something bad happens, on the highest something good happens"n and the die has fewer and fewer sides as your luck ranks up

Actually, you're right and we didn't even think about informing Archer about it. If we are to contact Emiya in the near future, we should tell him that Avanger is cautious about him.

Captcha wanted me to type in an arrow or a house, I'm not sure. What happened?
