The vast monstrosity carved out of blood, bone, flesh, stone and wood towers above you.

"...Alright. I'm sure you have a plan." Zaan whispers to Samiel, keeping his eyes fixed on the Behemoth as it gently rolls towards you, gliding on the shifting substance of the Wyld beneath it. From the fluid part of its body, snakelike monsters form and grow in length, and hideous human-like beasts of horn and fur leap out, staring at you with hungry eyes.

"...My plan was to get you and hope YOU had a plan." The dragon-blooded admits, sword drawn.

"Oh? What's it?" A new voice rings out, clear as a crystal bell. "Is this all the forces you could muster against me? I'm insulted."

"Show yourself!" Samiel calls out.

"But my dear, I HAVE shown myself." Your attention is drawn to the greenish gem set in the monster's chest. You can see a humanlike figure sitting on a vast, elaborate throne within.

"...What did you do with Talon?" You ask back, raising your fists in a guard.

"Talon? Oh, that wolfman? He's-" Then the voice shifts to a derisive tone. "...why should I even tell you?"

The figure inside the gem makes a slight gesture, and the snakelike appendages of the monster dart towards you, baring their fangs.

>Who are we?
Maka, an exiled noble recently Exalted as a Zenith-caste Solar. She's in the western city of Tianna as a guest of queen Amata (DB), an old friend. Abyssals are targeting the city for conquest, Lintha pirates have infiltrated it with spies and agents, and half the island is controlled by paranoid Lunars. Fun times. She has joined an assault on the island's Wyld land as part of the plan to forge an alliance between Tianna and the Lunars, and it's time for the final (maybe?) showdown.

>Solar? Zenith? I don't know Exalted...
This quest is as newbie-friendly as possible, and I want it to work as a newbie's intro to Exalted. If you have ANY question, ask in thread. For the setting, google "1d4chan exalted".

>Archive?
http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=zenith

>System?
Dicepool-like system. When performing an action, everyone rolls 1d10 when posting. the first X rolls are considered, where X is equal to attribute + ability. Yes, this means that the more people are posting, the stronger Maka is, up to a limit of her attribute + ability.

>XP?
Attributes cost [current score x5] xp. Abilities cost [current score x3] xp, except Zenith costing [(current score x3) -1]. Charms cost 10 xp, except for Zenith-based charms (related to charisma and physical/mental fortitude) which cost 8 xp. At the end of every "session" (thread) you will be presented with a list of possible acquisitions.

[Solar Hero Style] [Essence: 2/5]

Physical + Dawn + Solar Hero Style = 9 9 5 6 4 3 10 3 8 = 5 successes

Everything happens so fast.

The heads lunge at your group. Samiel rolls sideways and disappears from your field of view as one of the snakes crashes on the ground where he was standing a moment ago. Zaan leaps above another head in an agile somersault, and lands on top of it, trying not to get thrown off.

As for you, you meet your opponent head-on, and grab the fangs as they come. The head smashes into you, but you plant your feet and latch on to it.

Putting your strength against it, you bend it sideways, and slam its head on the ground like in a giant match of arm wrestling.

With a scream of effort, you pull the two fangs one against the other, smashing them in pieces. They disintegrate into some kind of horrible red-black blood-like substance.

Before you can strike back again, though the head pulls back, and several of the human-sized, beast-like creatures march in and surround you, acting as if moved by a single mind and purpose.

They are all red and white, although some seem made from blood, some fur, some bone, or wood, or other indistinguishable substances. they are shaped as hobgoblins, lizardmen, beastmen, men and women with bestial, or feylike, traits, and horrendous mutations, no one identical to the other or even similar.

"MAKA! SAMIEL!" You hear Zaan scream from atop the snake-head as it raises in the air. Some of these creatures, born with wings, are flying up to him. "NEED A HAND HERE! BUY ME TIME!"

"NO CAN DO!" You can't see Samiel from here, but his voice makes it clear that he has enough trouble on his own.

Seems that Zaan has come up with a plan. At least you hope.

No time to waste. As the beastly offspring of the Behemoth charge you, you send the first one reeling back with a fractured skull, assuming it even has one. When the second arrives, you kick high and plant your foot on its horned head, then use that as a platform to jump above him.

Temporarily airborne, you intercept one of the flying beasts in mid-air and grab onto its leg.

The flesh is wet and slippery, but you manage to hold on to it, at least until the creature notices your hitch-hiking (which doesn't take long).

Once she goes, it becomes practically impossible to hold on to it as it shakes left and right in an effort to get rid of you. As if that weren't enough, several other fliers are now swarming around you, lunging at you in an airborne chaos of horns and claws and fangs.

You slip off your first ride and land on the back of another beast as if was flying below you, and before it slams to the ground you manage to leap of it towards a third...

...that's when you see the main body of the Behemoth turn its head towards you, a glow of light gathering in its mouth.

>Abort your attempt to get to Zaan and use a flier as a shield.

[Iron Kettle Body]
[Essence 1/5]

Whatever is about to come your way is certainly not healthy. You drop your "ride" and land heavily on one of the snake-bodies jutting out of the Behemoth's main body.

"MAKAAA!" You hear Zaan call out, now invisible to you as the snake he's on is much higher than yours.

"GIVE ME A SEC!" You scream back, running down the snake's body as the head slowly tracks you...

Until, at least, it breathes, or rather spits, a jet of multicolored, liquid fire at you. You act on instinct, putting on a spurt of speed and trying to avoid it, but the wave of fire washes over you and the snake alike.

[HP: 4/5]

Your entire body begins to burn as a horrible, acrid smell invades your nose. More like acid than fire, the liquid burns through your clothes and skin, and eats through the snake's body almost instantly.

Detached from the rest of the creature, it begins to fall down, putting even more distance between you and Zaan. You have to act fast.

But how? What can you do?

In the distance, the voice laughs, enjoying the spectacle.

>Leap, grab onto a flyer.
>Leap, grab onto another snake head.
>Ride it to the ground, try to regroup with Samiel.

Before the flying monsters can swarm you again, you seize the opportunity and, with a running start, leap onto another of the snake heads before you hit the ground. You almost miss your timing, though, and have to grasp the scales to avoid slipping down.

Looking at the ground, about fifty meters below you, you see... the ground-based monsters are starting to sprout wings and take to the air, one after another. Some javelins made from a red, coagulated blood-like substance are chucked at you.

Trying to keep a cool head, you climb up on the snake and avoid the projectiles. Of course, in the meanwhile, the ones that were ALREADY airborne have started to reorganize and have gathered in a small squadron, about to swoop down on you. On the other side, the snake you're on lifts and rears its head, spotting you. It bares its fangs, either about to spit poison or to just try and chomp you.

You cast another glance to the flying monsters, the other half of the pincer attack, to see them being enveloped in a fireball. Following the trail of smoke to the ground you see Samiel, on the ground, shrouded in fire, leaping into a formation of beasts before they can take flight.

Looks like you only have this snake to worry about right now.

The snake lunges at you.

You run.

The fact that you're running towards a nameless abomination spawned out of pure chaos, a few hundred meters tall, carved from bone and blood, and piloted by an insane fey lord, doesn't make you run any less fast.

With no space where to dodge left and right, you don't have a lot of choices, after all.

The snake's head, lightning fast, gains more and more ground on you, and your footing becomes more and more slippery as you approach the liquid-like base of the monster, from where both the snake heads and the flying beasts sprout.

You suddenly slow down, your feet sinking softly in the no-longer-solid substance of the snake body.

Turning around, the head is way too large, with its mouth way too open, and approaching way too fast.

Physical + Dawn + Solar Hero Style = 2 5 5 8 3 4 1 1 6 = 1 success

Not trusting your footing or momentum enough to attempt a leap, you turn and raise your fists.

Zaan will have to wait.

As the head rushes into you, you punch it.

It opens its mouth, your fist hits nothing, and instead you are swallowed whole.

You are dropped into a world of burning darkness. You can feel your clothes melting away in acid, turning into bugs that attempt to borrow into your skin, into needles trying to scratch your bones, into drops of fire soaking into your flesh, bone piranhas mauling you, and countless other horrors.. You can feel the raw energy of the Wyld just assaulting your very being, and it's only thanks to the Unconquered Sun's blessings that your very being is not irrevocably changed into who-knows-what.

[HP: 3/5]

Despite the overwhelming pain and burning and the chaos in your head, you try your best to think clearly. You stretch out your hands, trying to find the walls of the beast's stomach, or its skin, or any surface you can manage to find and break free of.

Yet, the darkness seems to stretch forever in all directions. You're keeping your eyes absolutely shut, horrified of what they might see if you'd open them.

Then, a current in the acid begins to pull you sideways. You flow with it, helpless, wondering where it's bringing you, and if you will get there alive at all...

...when all of sudden a flash of light breaks through your eyelids and you feel yourself in free-fall, as a horrifying wet noise echoes in your ears.

Opening your eyes again, you see Samiel grabbing your acid-coated hand, his sword in the other as you both fall from the severed snake-head.

"Hang in there!"

With a grunt of effort, he tosses you up high, falling down dangerously close to the Behemoth's base in your place.

Airborne again, you try and get your bearings, and see Zaan below you, wounded and bleeding, with silver blades jutting out of his forearms, defending himself against an onslaught of flying blood-and-bone monsters. The snake head he's standing on, now you see, is the last one, though the liquid base of the main body seems to be in the process of slowly extruding a new one.

Hm, while my system instincts aren't exceptional by any standards, i got the feeling that the best bang for our buck XP wise in a quest and system like this is buying up as many permanent charms as possible, since they grant nifty effects and don't cost valuable essence.

Like Heaven thunder hammer (check the archives, it's permanent back when it was offered) , Graceful Crane stance and the like.

Thoughts?

Kinda. The issue with the permanent charms is that they offer much less effect. For example, the permanent soak charm at Zenith 5? That only lets you apply the soak once per scene, like normal armor.

It's a balancing act no matter how you cut it. Personally, I like charms that provide brands new options or permanent upgrades to existing charms. For example, IKB is a permanent upgrade to our old soak charm, and Tiger-Warrior Training Technique will provide a ton of new options as far as utilizing followers is concerned.

That's where I stand on the issue.

You hang in the sky, weightless, for a second, before gravity grabs a hold of you. Twisting, you redirect your plummet towards Zaan, and finally slam through two or three flying monsters and into the snake.

"Took you long enough!" He protests, immediately getting back to back with you.

"Sorry. Had some issues getting here." You reply, punching out a couple of oncoming blood-monsters, which seem to have gotten a lot more wary now. "What's the plan?"

"Buy me thirty seconds." He explains, succinctly, as his castemark, a hollow silver circle, lights up with a flash and a flicker.

"What for?"

"Sorcery." He replies, as his glowing, silver anima flows outwards in darker waves, and a pearl of energy coalesces in front of him, slowly growing in size as more and more Essence gathers into it.

You look around. About ten flying wyldspawns surround you from all directions, and with the advantage of being able to attack from any angle.

This isn't going to be easy.

You decide that, whatever Zaan is doing, must be incredibly important and worth protecting with your life for the next thirty seconds.

It better be.

The swarming wyldspawns leap into actions, some swooping down onto Zaan, others tossing acid javelins. For every strike you intercept with your hands or gauntlets, one slams against your forehead, or your stomach, or your back. Your Essence-toughened body manages to resist to the assault and shield your Lunar friend, but one too many time you feel like all that's needed is just another attack to make you lose balance and fall down from your precarious footing.

Meanwhile, while doing his best to stay within your cover and dodge the blows, Zaan is gathering Essence in his hands while chanting in a language you can't make sense of.

Then, you see the gem on the beast's chest popping open, and its passenger, or perhaps pilot? Stepping into view.

"My my, are you annoying." He mumbles. "I was hoping you'd put up a more interesting show. Maybe beat me here and force me to make a final stand at my palace? It's not very dramatic if I win here, right?"

He mumbles to himself, looking distracted for a moment. "...I wonder, should I go easier on you?"

"In case you hadn't noticed, we're currently winning!" You scream back at him, defiantly. as you keep his minions at bay.

"Hardly." He replies, extending his arm towards you. You focus on that point for a moment, covering Zaan against any attack, but you aren't prepared for what's about to happen.

Rather than from his hand, from the hand of the Behemoth, which holds a smoking, spinning sphere of floating bone and wood, a blast of rainbow-colored acid, its tip as sharp as a spear, explodes towards you.

"Seeing as I'm about to end you here and now."

Even though the attack catches you completely by surprise, you don't hesitate and immediately jump into its path, receiving it square on. The javelin pierces your chest, though it doesn't go all the way through, and throws you off the snake, leaving Zaan vulnerable and mid-casting.

[HP: 2/5]

"Too bad, really. You had potential. Still, I'm not about to lose my kingdom to a bunch of Creation ruffians like you."

A second blast from the sphere hurtles against the defenseless Zaan, who, blocked by his own spellcasting, can only close his eyes...

"Ruffian? I AM A QUEEN!"

Barely in the nick of time, you pull yourself up from the snake's side, desperately struggling against its slippery scales, wrapped in a cloud of smoke emanating from the hole in your chest, and the smell of burned flesh.

As the javelin is about to slam into Zaan, you meet it with your iron-plated fist, and the projectile explodes in a circular spray, washing all over the fliers and monsters filling the air around you. They melt in horrible screams.

[Iron plates on gauntlets lost]

"And you aren't going to be the prince of ANYTHING anymore."

His spell finished, Zaan tosses the pearl of essence into the air, where it shines bright as a beautiful star, then explodes in a firework-like spread, revealing the shape of a spiked, vicious-looking circular blade.

"...Flying Guillotine." He states, calmly, but with a fire of anger in his eyes, and his jagged, saw-toothed grin even more prominent than usual.

The blade starts spinning with a buzzing noise, Speeding up to a point where it lust looks like a solid, polished red-and-silver disc.

You can hear the slamming noise of the gem closing itself as the blade flies away, under Zaan's command, and slices off the monster's orb-wielding arm with casual ease, prompting a jet of smoking, acrid blood to erupt from it.

The blade then homes back in a wide, circular trajectory, decapitating the snake head you're standing on along the way.

You feel weightless as the snake's body limps down and falls, eventually slamming into the ground in a geyser of blood and gore. The little creatures panic and retreat, leaping towards the behemoth's base and merging back with its substance.

"...Now YOU cover ME!" You call out to Zaan, dashing closer to the main body and its convoluted mess of decapitated snakes, melting blood, and monster corpses. "Gotta find Samiel!"

"Alright." He replies, calling the spinning blade back at him with a gesture, then sending it back into the fray. You briefly catch sight of it intercepting several flying wyldspawns before they can rejoin the main body of the Behemoth, slicing them in half, before it disappears from your sight.

As you venture into the field of corpses, you are startled by the snake decapitated by the Behemoth's acid breath suddenly popping back to life, snapping its jaws at you while trying to lunge.

"Damnit, you scared me!" You instinctively reply, slamming a karate chop right on its jaw hinge, producing a very satisfying cracking noise.

To stop the thing from thrashing around more, and to get it out of the way, you then grab it from the underside of the jaw, now narrower and thus more manageable, and, arcing backwards, slamming it on the ground in a majestic suplex.

"SAMIEL?!" You call out, finding a moment later, with much relief, one of the bodies drenched in blood and ichor littering the floor weakly raising a hand.

"...Here..." He mumbles, weakly. You grab his hand and gently pull him out of the ground.

"Anything broken?" You ask him, loading him on your shoulders.

"...Everything..." He coughs. Well, at least he's still alive.

As you head back away from the mess, you hear Zaan's warning: "LOOK OUT ABOVE!" as a hideous wet chainsaw-going-through-a-watermelon noise rings above you.

You look up, and are greeted by the Behemoth's face looking rather surprised in turn as it tumbles in mid-air, severed from the rest of the body, trailing bloody rainbows, on a collision course with the ground.

You leg it double time, still mindful of the wounded DB on your shoulders, and clear the area in time.

My personal canon is that all "combat" spells are first-circle, and actually useful in certain specific kinds of fights. Mostly anti-army, anti-fortress, or anti-monster.

Combat spells in general are not very effective against other Exalted or similar creatures. (because that's a niche spellcaster shouldn't be intruding into). But as anti-army, anti-fortress, or anti-monster spells, they're VERY useful, provided that someone with actual combat skill gives cover and support to the spellcaster.

Death of Obsidian Butterflies is anti-army. Magma Kraken is anti-fortress. Flying Guillotine is anti-monster.

Second and third level sorcery doesn't have direct combat spells (apart for a few anti-fortress type spells), because it's too slow to cast.

As the buzzsaw springs back to life above you, plunging into the broken monster's body, you scour the battlefield, searching for Talon's body... but you quickly give up.

Feeling defeated, you head back to Zaan, who has dropped the spell, it seems, and is now trying to clean Samiel's wounds.

"...You didn't find him."

"I don't even know where to BEGIN!" You protest. "Can you hold the fort here? I'll go and get the others and bring our manpower here to comb the area."

He nods, and you run back, retracing your steps towards the location where you left your main force.
You find it resting amid a battlefield much like your own, with piles of lizardmen bodies slowly melting away all around, mixed with a few of your own people, both pirates and barbarians. Towering in the middle of the carnage, the corpse of a smaller behemoth than the one you just faced, a faceless humanoid giant whose chest has been viciously opened and its innards blended together in a rather gory way.

The men are intent to retrieve arrows and scouring the battlefield while tending to the wounded, but you immediately spot Tia and Silk on the lookout. The fae seems... a bit smaller than before, and her blue body is stained red from, probably, absorbing blood, whereas Tia has several wounds, though none seems particularly dangerous.

Upon seeing you, your Lunar immediately charges you headlong, slamming int you with a powerful hug. "MAKA~! I MISSED YOU!"

"No you didn't!" You reply, still reeling from the charge and trying to deal with the pain.

"...AH! What happened to you?!" She finally notices the large, gaping wound in your chest. "Are you all right?"

You sigh. You're really feeling terrible, but no sense worrying her too much. "I'm fine."

She sighs. "Thank the heavens. I don't know how I could survive if you lost your breasts."

You decide to let that slide. "...What happened here?"

"Shortly after you left, big guy with no face attacked us with a small army. We killed him." She reports, succinctly as ever.

"Losses?"

"About a dozen dudes."

A bit less than five percent of your total troop strength, you mentally compute. Not good news, but still on par with your most optimistic predictions.

"This is two out of three of Tarien Dorian's Behemoths, right?" You ask Silk, who is casually plucking stone-tipped javelins out of her transparent body.

"Yes. At this point, his troop strength should be low enough that he can't do much more than fortify." She replies.

"Problem is, we didn't find Talon." You explain. "We need the troops to advance and everyone to comb the battlefield. He could be there somewhere."

"Time is on Tarien Dorian's side, you know." Silk reminds you.

"I know, but Talon's..."

"...been a good friend until now, and if he's alive..."

"RIGHT!" Tia interrupts you, screaming at the top of her lungs. "You heard the boss! March! Keep your eyes open!"

So you head back to the battlefield with your full force. Along the way, you ask Silk: "So, he's left with just one Behemoth. You know anything about it?"

"Not much. He kept a lot of secrets from us just in case someone tried to revolt against him." She explains, sliding along. Yes, she's DEFINITELY smaller than before, you notice.

"Sounds like not a very popular guy." You note.

"Very much a "love him or hate him" situation." She nods. "Anyway, I just know that it's inside his palace, probably never left it. Maybe can't."

"...A really small Behemoth?" You wonder.

"Well, ain't no rule that they HAVE to be big. Though they usually are." She admits.

"...Say, weren't you taller and a lot more... fuller earlier?" You ask her, pointing at her height. She's about as tall as your waist, and her normally curvy body flat in all directions.

"I burned a lot of Essence in the fight." She explains. "...And Tia smashed my house, so I can't draw it from there. I could try and drain it from the Wyld, but there's too much iron around." She complains.

Meanwhile, you have arrived to the battlefield. Your men are shocked at the carnage and the size of the monster you felled. Tia is organizing them on her own, sending patrols around, assisted by your three captains.

"...What do you think about Talon's disappearance, by the way, Silk?" You ponder as you watch your men comb the battlefield fruitlessly.

"My best bet? Tarien Dorian killed him." She replies.

That was harsh. "Second opinion?"

"Kidnapped, dragged to his fortress, brainwashed." She adds.

"Talon doesn't look like the kind of person who gets brainwashed easily." You note.

"Granted." The fae replies. "But Dorian is really good at it."

"...How long do you think he could hold out?" An idea is forming in your mind. "A day?"

"What's a 'day'?" She asks, looking up at the sky, covered by a thick layer of fog and clouds. Same way it's been since you ventured into this cursed Wyldland.

"...Good point." You concede. "We really don't have a lot of time. Go in the Wyld and get a recharge as fast as possible, be right back."

"Are we going to march on his fortress right away?" She asks.

"...Just the time needed to catch our breath, for Samiel to walk if he's in condition to, and for you to get some Essence out of the wyld." You reply. "We can't waste time. And I don't want to face a crazy Talon in battle."

She nods. "I can understand that. By the way, Tia obviously didn't say anything, but your usual thing happened." She says.

"...My usual thing?" You're a bit puzzled.

"Well, you fight without armor, just relying on powers that make your skin harder and your body tougher." She points out. "Which means that, when you take hits..."

That's about when you notice that there isn't much, or just about anything, of the shawl you donned this morning left over you. All you're wearing right now is a thick iron chain around your neck, it seems.

"...Damnit, this is becoming a habit." You mumble, as Silk giggles. So that's why most of the men haven't been looking directly at you.

"A HABIT I'M VERY HAPPY ABOUT." Tia reminds you.

"It's fairly normal for most Exalted who rely on physical toughness over armor." Zaan notes. Well, HE is rather scantly dressed, as is Talon. "Some invest in particularly tough clothing, like Tia." He notes.

Well, that explains why her clothes seem to suffer damage, but never be completely destroyed, and seem to repair themselves over time, you muse.

"Some don't concern themselves over it too much." He continues. "And other take more unorthodox measures."

You sit down on a rock and catch your breath. Since you have to wait for Silk anyway, who is meanwhile merrily trotting into pure chaos, best to get a bit of rest as well. "TIA! Stop the search and get everyone to rest and prepare. We attack Dorian's palace in a few hours!" You shout to her.

Guys, I just had a horrible thought. Fae are all about lies and stories, right? So the worst Fae villain ought to be Shhamalan-like with pointless plot twists all over the place and poorly landed foreshadowing. "Why would you do that?!"

"...Because it's troubling and distracting the men?" You suggest.

"It's their fault for not being able to handle you~" She giggles, putting one arm around your waist.

"...Tia, where did you get that dress, by the way?" You decide to ask.

"This? Oh." She tugs on the skirt gently and does a pirouette in front of you. "Gift of my mentor."

"...You mean Ma-Ha Such-"

"NO." She interrupts you, rather vehemently. "...Once I left him, another Lunar took me under her wing. We've long parted way, but she left me with Skullopener and my dress."

"...Skullopener? Oh, your sword." You wonder if the name was also inherited, or if Tia renamed it. "So your dress is kind of an artifact?"

"Not really an artifact, though it has some magic. All it does is repair itself, though."

"...Why a wedding dress?"

"Because I want to be your husband~"

"...Why then a BRIDE's dress." You still don't get it.

"What do you mean a bride's dress? This is a wedding dress." She replies, completely missing the point. "Anyway, if you want a dress, I can just leave you this~" She says, beginning to unbutton it.

"No! it's okay, really! Besides, that would just move the problem around, not solve it." You block her. "And you, er, uh, your dress isn't my size..."

"It's a bit elastic... and besides, I'd love to see you spilling all over..." She mumbles, more to herself than to you a this point, drooling a bit.

"I, uh, I'll see what I can find to dress myself around here."

"Can I try? So you can just focus on resting." She offers.

I'm operating under the assumption that we'll have time to heal somewhat before we actually arrive at his fortress. Plus having a fortress in the wyld will seriously skew the odds in his favor unless we undertake a long siege. Assaulting castles was a last resort for a reason and his entire strategy has been "what will look the coolest".

If we storm the gates we'll probably win through but we WILL take losses because tarien will have just enough forces to maul ours. Plus if Tarien agrees to the dramatic one on one duel with the golden glowing god queen. (He will). We can get him to agree to let us heal to full for the fully dramatic battle that he craves. let's hope we get lots of xp for defeating the big bad
>>
>>31123268
You are aware that we plan to utilize TWTT over timeskips, right? So we'll be able to use it anytime we aren't actively doing something.

>If we die, we will definitely not get a chance to use it.
If we die, the quest ends. I'm assuming there will be consequences for failure other than death. Especially since EF said that 'no exalt dies unless you intentionally deal a coup de grace.'

And I cannot believe that a single health level will be the determining factor in whether or not our pooled armies succeed.

>Essence-Gathering Temper (Permanent. Every time Maka loses a health level, roll 1d10. On a success, she regains 1 Essence. On a 10, two.)
we keep on running out of essence. and we take damage. this uses one to solve the other.

I'm saying that I think that, if we don't get it now, we'll just keep putting it off forever.

Ox-Body, definitely.
>>
Rolled 5

we only have 2 health levels remaining, at best it will give us two essence if we're really lucky

Ok, I don't fine that convincing since we're building Maka to be a Warrior-God-Queen, but I see where you're coming from.

Tiger-Warrior time!
>>
>>31123030
In this thread we rolled

Dawn - 7 times
Zenith - 0 times
Twilight - 0 times
Night - 4 times
Eclipse - 0 times

I suggest we raise night since it is pathetically low and we keep on using it.
>>
Rolled 6

>>31123030
I'm ready for Tiger-Warrior Training Technique now. I don't think any of the other charms will sway the battle one way or the other, and I want Tiger-Warrior for the aftermath.
>>
>>31123343

What have exactly our armies done so far? Not a damn thing, in fact we kept them away from the big monster!

A single point of health if we go from 3 to 4 will be 33% so we have a very good short term reason to get it. And it will make EGT much more effective and unlock regen in the long term.

We have to get Ox Body now. We can get Tiger Warrior later.

>I'm assuming there will be consequences for failure other than death.

Can we not just brush aside the consequences of going to zero.

That's why we need Tiger-Warrior Training Technique. Our armies are literally useless for any of our purposes without it.
>>

>What have exactly our armies done so far? Not a damn thing, in fact we kept them away from the big monster!

We kept them in reserve on purpose. They're here to siege the palace, but they're not equipped for fighting giant monsters.

Yeah, but we do not need to get it right away. We will get it after the danger has passed.
>>
Rolled 6

>>31123523
After the danger is passed, we won't have opportunities to get more experience until new danger has arisen. We need to get it BEFORE our downtime or there will never be time to use it. And we'll just keep putting it off like you're talking about right now.
>>
Rolled 5

>Tiger Warrior Training Technique
This one.
>>
>>31123472
You realize that it takes a week of training to raise our army's stats, right? Not really applicable with us attacking ASAP.
>>
>>31123494
The obvious answer is that it depends. we are knocked down and can't more anymore. at which point our allies now have to carry the day (since it takes some effort to coup de grace us at that point). Our allies either continue the fight (and might have a chance of winning) or try to collect us and beat a retreat. Depending on the situation at that point the results could be
1. Our allies win, then tend to us.
2. Our allies retreat with us, some die
3. Our allies are defeated and we are all captured alive for some nefarious reason.
4. Our allies are totally wiped and the quest is over.
>>
>>31123494
You will pass out and the battle will continue without you, with you being at the mercy of the winning party.
>>
>>31123540
You realize we have politicking and the Lintha to deal with right after this? We aren't hurting for XP opportunities.
>>
Rolled 5

>>31123579
It'll be applicable as soon as the fae war is over, which should happen next session - not enough time to earn enough experience to actually purchase the charm for our impending downtime.
>>
>>31123540
>After the danger is passed
the danger will never pass, there are a dozen quest hooks dangling in front of us already and we can always find more. and if we don't, they will find us
>>
>>31123609
Which then puts us in a constant combat situation.
>>
>>31123615
>It'll be applicable as soon as the fae war is over, which should happen next session

Probably optimistic. There's at least one more behemoth and Dorian himself to go through, assuming there are no issues besieging the palace and that Talon doesn't show back up, brainwashed, to start wrecking shit. I'd guess three more sessions at a minimum.
>>
>>31123672
No, there's plenty of organization and logistical work to do in Tianna, especially if Talon ends up dying this campaign. And we need to survive our day and a night with the water elementals. And we need to devise a dance and ritual for Smoking Dancer. We have a lot to do, not all of it combat, and plenty of XP to earn in the process.
>>
Rolled 7

>>31123712
I wouldn't guess that at all, considering how fast this session punched through stuff.
>>
Can we have a lorebin with some Q&A from previous threads?
For example, what does dawn, zenith, twilight, night and eclipse stand for on our character sheet?
>>
>>31123615
When do you think the down time's coming? Because that might be where we're at odds with each other.
>>
>>31123733
You mean how it took a whole thread to deal with one behemoth probably weaker than Dorian's final one?
>>
Rolled 10

>>31123775
As soon as the fae campaign ends - which I expect to happen by the end of next session - I'm expecting we'll have enough free time to spend four hours per day - which is all Tiger-Warrior needs in EF's game - to spend training out troops.

The only thing keeping us from having four hours to devote to that right now is that we're currently on 24/7 aggressive war footing.

That's all 'downtime' means to me.
>>
>>31123750
Connected to Solar castes.

Dawn: all weapon and combat skills, and military tactics, strategy and leadership. "warrior" skillset.
Zenith: direct social skills and fortitude, both mental and physical. "priest/leader" skillset.
Twilight: lore, occult, medicine, crafting, and investigation. "scholar" skillset.
Night: athletics, stealth, awareness. "ninja/spy/thief" skillset.
Eclipse: travel skills, bureaucracy, politics. "diplomat/magistrate/trader" skillset.
>>
>>31123803
OP, is it asking too much to know if >>31123598's right about us getting a break instead of fulfilling our obligations and playing clean up after the Fae Conquest Arc?
>>
>>31123803
it would still be at least a weak before we see a single point bonus from it.
Meaning we could get it in 2 days and just be 2 days "behind' on army training (but not on other stuff; because it takes us a a whole day to recover essence and DAYS to recover HP; during which we aren't training anyone)

Actually, now that i think about it, didn't we spend the majority of quest time (in days) since exalting bedridden and waiting for our HP to recover?
>>
>>31123803
+1 defeat the last behemoth
+1 defeat Tarel
+1 save Talon
+1 fuck the water elementals afterwards
+4 base of two sessions minimum.

That would bring us to 10xp and the end of session 23, just in time to get Tiger Warrior.
>>
Rolled 10

>>31123907
That's assuming it takes two sessions and we get experience points for each of those. Which I don't expect it will or we will. You're making a lot of assumptions instead of just going for the sure-thing and getting it now, while we're sure we'll have it for the future.
>>
>>31123852
You probably misclicked the post you wanted to reference.

Anyway, I can't really tell anything about what will happen afterwards, right? Besides, I don't know either. It depends too much on what you people do. You're not being railroaded, and I don't plan that far ahead on purpose.

(Or maybe I do and I'm lying and you're being railroaded so skillfully that you haven't realized yet!)
>>
Rolled 1

>>31123937
I'd say 2 sessions are a save bet and EF has been fairly generous with xp.
Maybe we get more than 1 xp for defeating Tarel? He's been the main antagonist for the entire fae war arc, after all

That would be easier if our allies we're constantly getting knocked about. Or we actually came up with game plans for these fights.

1. March up to castle
2. Assume defensive formation
3. Have Zaan sorcery the castle to pices.
4. Attack, while Zaan charges up a bethmoth killing spell.

Might not work on Fae actually. In 2nd ed they tend to have to high attributes and skills for it to really be useful.
