“Shit shit shit shit shit shit…”

You roll over, unconvinced and unwilling to wake up, keeping your head down. You might be able to get that dream back.

“Michelle! Michelle!”

Wendy starts shaking you. “We’re going to be late!”

Oh.

Shit.

You can’t be late AND hungover on your second day. Wendy lets you borrow a pair of black denim jeans (they fit, mostly) and an old looking 50/50 t-shirt with a faded logo on it and a pair of white sneakers (which don’t fit at all) and quickly rinse your mouth with tequila (Wendy doesn’t have a spare and neither of you feel like sharing).
You drive as quickly as you can. The hangover and your ever present headaches are conspiring against you, but eventually the two of you leave the company car in a parking lot and stumble in through the door after scanning your implanted RFID tag and retina.

A little message flashes on the screen informing you that you are to see Miss Nakamara immediately.

Wendy cuts you off as you’re saying good bye, saying she needs to go see someone. You assume she gets to spend some quality time with her counselor too.

You cover as much of your face as you can while you walk along an insane amount of exactly the same looking hallways before coming to her office. Her secretary pages Miss Nakamara and lets you in briefly through a powered frosted glass door that recedes into the ceiling.

The lights are very dim. You slump into the chair, facing her.

She pulls down the hem of her dress and says, “You’re not looking so well, Miss Saint Claire. Rough night?”

You are Michelle St. Claire, and today is your second day on the job. Your head is pounding and you're hungover.

You say dryly, only partly on account of being dehydrated, “You could say that.”

She crosses her legs and says, “So I heard. It’s unfortunate that you were dragged into this on your first day. Generally we try to smoothly transition new hires into the COG but, well, you don’t always get what you want.

Miss Hayes hasn’t filed her AAR yet, but I have seen and heard what was recorded on location. Tell me how you feel about it.”

"Kind of conflicted and ambivalent maybe, didn't expect to be doing such work so soon, or ever, I mean its great we got some pay back against those who hit our event, killing security and other guys with guns, in self defense or whatnot, I'm totally fine with that, but executing defenseless girls, its going to take a lot of rough nights filled with drinking to get over, if I ever get over it."

Gonna starting writing at the half hour.

“Conflicted? Ambivalent, maybe. Whatever I said yesterday I double didn’t expect to be, you know...executing idols. I guess it’s great and whatever that we can hit back and remove the help but the girl thing is going to be a lot of late nights with a lot of drinking...you know, assuming someone gets over watching a girl with a broken hip cry as you kill her.”
You shrug limply. Your eyes feel dry. Maybe your body doesn’t have any moisture to spare. Maybe you cried it out last night. Maybe, and this could be worse, you just don’t care already.

“I see. What you’re feeling is something nearly all of our hires experience, and a reason why I or someone else is here to guide you through your feelings. It seems, however, that perhaps you’re adjusting well?

But let’s put a in that for a second.”

She turns up the lights a bit as she stands up and walks behind her large wooden desk and directs your attention towards a small machine.

Oh, you recognize that. It’s a bill counter. You saw a lot of them get brought back after people kicked in doo-

Wait, what? Why does she have a bill counter?

“You seem confused, Miss Saint Claire.”

“I mean, Wendy said that there was a bonus but I didn’t think it was like THIS...”

Miss Nakamara laughs lightly and says, “We like to keep it a surprise. We find it raises morale more as than as not.”

She pulls a polished metal briefcase from the floor and sets it on her desk. She unlocks it by holding her finger over...something. She holds it there for a few seconds before raising her finger and drawing a small cloth from a drawer in her desk and wipes the blood away.

“Cash on the move is kept by blood lock.”

>Lost my trip somehow.

She begins pulling stacks of bills out of the briefcase and feeding them into the machine. You watch the small red number, but quickly lose count of it.

Until it stops counting, anyways. At one thousand. What?

“We ran facial recognition on the idols you terminated. Two of them were of little interest to the company, but the third was a girl who displaced one of our own idols in a magazine poll from last quarter. The company has authorized a bounty for all three, though.”

She feeds even more bills through the counter. You’re feeling dizzy and you can’t blame it entirely on the headache or hangover.

“Five for the two and seventy five for the third, in addition to the as-agreed twenty.”

She hands you her tablet. “Please sign on the line below stating that you have received and taken possession of your compensation.”

You quickly scribble your signature on it and numbly hand it back. What.

“Thank you Miss Saint Claire,” she says as she begins wrapping small paper bands around the bills, “about my earlier question. Do you feel you’re adjusting to your new situation?”

“I think it’s a one day at a time sort of situation, Miss Nakamara...although I’d be lying if I didn’t say that a giant pile of cash didn’t help.”

She smiles at you warmly. “It certainly does, doesn’t it. I have one final piece to say before you’re free to stay or leave whenever you want. Every idol you terminate nets you a day of paid vacation time. Currently you’re at three. Please give us at least twelve hours notice when you wish to use one, some, or all.

Anyways, is there anything you’d like to ask or discuss?”

Your feet squirm as you try to get as comfortable as you can in these borrowed shoes and say, “Does idol termination happen, you know...often? Like, daily?”

Her smile fades and falls away. “Not usually. Generally the analysts need more time sifting through whatever data we can obtain before we have any actionable intelligence.

Oh! I nearly forgot. The company has services that can provide you a safe and secure banking solution, should you choose you wish to go cashless, or I can package it into a briefcase. Your choice, the company has no preference now that you’ve signed our documentation. In addition, you have the rest of today off.

Time to buy a generic safehouse, a generic fast car, and a generic outfit. Then train. I don't think there is any point in contacting our estranged sister anymore if we are this deep in our line of work.

Its fucking stupid to carry that much cash on hand, and a smart idea to put some in your bank account.

>half and half. Give us a fairly large payday in our wallet, but a sizeable few G in a rainy-day envelope in our wall safe, and leave the rest in our bank account.

Ma didn't raise a dumb girl, and put a bit in our retirement account - we're not expecting to live that long, in our depressed state and line of business - but we have that promise to our sister to take care of.

You slowly stand up and walk across the room to the briefcase and marvel at its contents for a second or two.

Then you begin jamming fistfulls of dollars into your pockets. You intended for only about a thousand, but it turns out you can fit about four in cash in the pockets of your borrowed jeans. You tuck another thousand between your breasts, for emotional and financial security.

“I’d like five thousand to be deposited into a retirement account and all the rest put into a checking account. I didn’t know her for long but ma-mother, raised a smart girl.”

“Of course, Miss Saint Claire. Just one moment…”

She types on her tablet for a few minutes and eventually produces for you a small, stamped metal card. It’s perforated along one of its long edges. It’s light, or light enough anyways. It’s very dark, but still semi-gloss and reflective.

She holds it out for you. “Here you are, Miss Saint Claire. This will be valid at any point of sale where you could pay with any regular card. Your balance twenty seven thousand five hundred dollars. We can deal with the check we wrote you yesterday another day.

Enjoy the rest of your day, Miss Saint Claire. Please call if you need to talk.”

“Thank you Miss Nakamara.”

You slide the small card into a pocket where you can still wedge out some space and leave her office.

You’re off duty, but your clothes are still here at the ready room. You make a right instead of a left and head deeper into the building.

Wendy obviously had the same thought, because she’s here too standing next to her locker.

“Hey Wendy.”

“Hi Michelle!”

She seems to be in a much better mood than this morning. “Did you like your surprise?”

“Fat stacks all day, baby.”

“Yeah...feels pretty good. Big money for last night and I got some more vacation time.”
“Me too. Three days off will be nice.”

“You’ll probably spend them crying. That’s how my first few were anyways.”

Your grin droops.

“Oh, shit. I’m sorry Michelle.”

You wave it away. “It’s...fine. I’ll be fine.”

Wendy gives you an extended, apologetic.

“I’m fine.”

Michelle shrugs, “So anyways, can I have my clothes back?”

Oh, yeah. You make sure to grab every bill you left in those pants before stripping down and changing back into yours.

You quickly fold all of it and hand it back to Wendy. “Sorry.”

Wendy makes a “whatever,” looking face. “So what’re you going to do today?”

“I kind of need to find a home to live in, so...probably that. Do you any good places to rent or buy?”

Wendy frowns. “I’m not a real estate agent, Michelle...but I guess I can walk you through Echo since you’re new and whatever, if you want.”

I usually post in a/the /qtg/ when I run a thread and...today I didn't.

That could be it.

Otherwise I'm not feeling disheartened or anything. Them's the breaks on /tg/, sometimes there are people and sometimes there aren't. Just gotta do what you set down to do and hope you make a few new fans along the way.

>Last post for the night. Damn tired.

“Cool.”

Wendy pulls out her phone and sits down and waits for you to do the same.

She pulls open a map app. “This is where the complex is located right now. It’s kind of like a small, commercial only downtown. The only stuff around here are just big office buildings where wageslaves clock in and clock out. Kind of a shit place to be if you’re not management.

“If you go southeast, near the lak- heh, the lake is called Saint Clair, although this one doesn’t have an e at the end, -e that’s where downtown is. It stretches on for miles along the Saint Clair and the Erie. If you like apartment life downtown’s pretty nice. Inland a bit it all goes from all apartments to some apartments and some houses to all houses, although all the houses and lots and whatever are kind of small.

All of the manufacturing and real industrial stuff happens on the water to the way north or way south or way inland to the west.

Umm. I guess there are a ton of suburbs and stuff? My house is in Romulus. I chose there because it had a cool name. It’s easy to stay unimportant too in the suburbs.

Kind of a shit job but I haven’t been here that long either.”

END SESSION

I'll be around for another 30~ minutes if anyone wants to ask any questions or discuss anything or whatever.

Thread archived as well.

Weekend nights seem to be pretty hit and miss. I think I'm running opposite some other (way more popular) quests right now too.

I'll probably be ready to give it another go Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday night. (Follow me on twitter @WetworkIdols to stay informed and up to date!)

>Weekend nights seem to be pretty hit and miss
Yeah, the big quests tend to run during the end of the week, as well as people going out on the weekend/saturday/saturday night too
>>
>>31155428
Seems to be how it feels, although I'd be the first to admit that I'm working with a pretty small sample size.

I'll try to get my shit ready for around a 7-8 PM (GMT-8) start during the week. We'll see how it goes once it's going, I suppose, although I'm pretty happy just to write this quest and have even one player.

More people and more discussion would just be more happiness.
