On one hand, you're sort of proud of the idea of having the Oorai Public Morals committee tow targets for today's practice- Hippo and Duck teams get a chance at target practice, while Sono and her crew get more practice driving what some people consider a tank. On the other hand, you're basically being forced to hide out in the field from Miho's sister.

You are Commander Russells of the M26E1 Pershing Heavy tank "Black Jack" and, as the concussion from Duck Team's Excelsior blasts your face, you lean forward into the binoculars. "Hit. Low and left." You say, bored and annoyed that you aren't looking Maho in the eye. Hiding is not your strong suit.

"Tell Akebi she needs to lead it just a bit more." Rose calls down to Patrick, laying down along the top of Black Jack's turret with her own pair of goggles. Patrick relays the orders to the British tank next to you. It's a warm, sunny day which can cause a buttoned-down tank to become on of the more uncomfortable places to be, so everyone's got their hatches open allowing direct communication.

"Her gunnery's getting better..." Roy says with a hint of pride in his voice. It is- the team have made incredible improvements since the school year started.

Quick question: blackjack still hasn't clarified what happened between Miho yelled at her mom and the start of the Saunders match, and nobody's written their own version what's happened?

Be strong, Russels. Miho's a mad genius; trust that she has a plan.
>>
>>31169453
He won't clarify it, he's said as much to me. He even asked if I wanted to write it myself (I refused). Last I heard, one of the guys that did the tank POV stuff was going to do it. I might be wrong, though...

>>

Well, since it looks like whatever may have happened would have affected Maho, Erika, Miho, and our approach face-to-face, I would like to suggest that we make a quick outline of what happened. something like: Shiho and co. left immediately after the declaration, and everyone else broke up shortly after, given that the festive mood was lost.
>>
>>31169677
Go for it, I'm not having anytihng to do with it.
>>
>>31169910
1. why not?
2. clarification for Kurmormine side: Shiho had a half-second of a stunned look before reverting to normal, steel expression. Erika gave Miho a look of utter loathing before slinking off. Maho's expression was much harder to read, but it appeared... calculating.
>>
>>31170078
Because I don't want to write it/etc. As for Erika, she was about to break out into laughter, iirc.
>>
>>31170153
*checks archive* thank you for reminding me /k/, ignore what I said for Erika before, she left laughing her head off, and probably is going to mock us next time we meet. Maho is *probably* still wants to test us to see if we are worthy of her sister. Shiho is pissed beyond all belief and *probably* accelerating Miho's expulsion from the family .
>>
I'm not touching it either, I have enough things I never finish.

question pertaining to future interactions: if someone insults you and/or your girlfriend to your face, what's the normal/expected response? Particularly if you're in/from California.
>>
You nod to your loader. "Can't argue with that." You say with a shrug as you watch the I-Go stop and make what seems like a six-point turn before getting ready for a return run. "Y'know, as close as that target is to their tank, I think this might actually get them used to being shot at." You look over at Noriko in the Excelsior's commander's hatch as she gives you a thumb's up to show she's ready to take another shot.

"Alright, Patrick, tell them to make their run!" You say, keeping the frustration out of your voice. "And tell them not to take so long with their turn- the B2's even bigger and turns slower."

"Speaking of the B2..." Roy says from the loader's hatch. "What are we doing out here? Aren't they supposed to be pulling that thing out of the pond today?" That's likely what they're doing this minute, if the claims of Nishizumi efficiency were to be believed.

"Yep." You say, choosing not to answer his question completely. "Miho's got someone to come out with a bergepanther." It's not a lot of information, but you immediately realise its way too much.

"You mean her sister." Rose says. "I thought you guys had already worked this out?" You grit your teeth. Thanks Rose- you really wanted to talk about this.

>>
Your hand goes up to cover your near-side ear as the QQF 75mm reports. You glue your eyes to your binoculars as you watch the round arc out towards the target and disappear off the side of the ship. "Miss." Rose gets out before you. "Looks like the wind took it right. Tell her to watch the terrain for wind cues and adjust for it." She looks over at you completely straight faced. "So what were you saying about your girlfriend being embarassed about you?"

You bite your tongue. "That's not it- her family is just sort of... intense." You say, struggling for the right words. "And old-fashioned. She just needs a bit to, y'know, talk with her sister." You pause for a second. "Soften the blow, I guess. 'Hi Sis, here's my foreign boyfriend- oh and he rides a tank, spitting in decades of Japanese feminine tradition.' That ain't gonna end well."

Roy looks at you with a serious look on his face. "So, when are you planning on crashing Black Jack through the wall as a giant act of defiance?" You looks down. "Alright, the walls are structural, but I don't think the hanger doors are."

"No, we're not going to cause that much property damage." You chide. "Could always come back from practice unexpectedly early, though?" You think for a second- you'll need a good excuse. "Hey Richard, think you can almost snap a track link on the way back?" You ask of your driver, careful to stay off the radio for your plotting. It's actually not hard to accidently screw up a tank's tracks, the trick here is that you needed to keep Black Jack mobile- a flat tired, not a lost wheel, so to speak.

"Easy peasey." Richard replies. You smile- he's probably trying to get back on your good side before you make him spend any more time with the Public Morals Committee. "Say the word and I'm ready to go."

You look over at Roy. "Y'know, I've never actually seen Miho angry." You say. "You're a bad influence." You shake your head and put your eyes back to the binoculars. "We'll give a few more shots and then leave Duck and Hippo to it." You sigh- Miho definately wasn't going to like this, but you don't hide for the sake of convienience, and her family could take it or leave it.

About three quarters of the way back to the hanger, Richard gives a short warning before leaning on the breaks and throwing Black Jack into a tight turn, which eventually becomes a significant fishtale. You feel something jolt and hold your breath momentarily. "Alright, forward gently- try to limp us in without making it look like you're trying to limp us in." You say to your driver. "Y'know... Limp casually."

You roll up to the hanger slowly, Richard ginerly lining Black Jack up and rolling him into the hanger. Outside is an odd-looking vehical- armored and, from the looks of the badge, made by Volkswagon. On the side of the door is Kuromuromine's badge. From inside the tank you look over the gun at your loader. "I blame you for anything that goes wrong from this point." You say quietly, before reaching up and opening the commander's hatch. Your immediate instinct is to announce your presence, loudly and with authority.

Instead you try to act how you would if you needed a quick repair. "Dammit, Richard!" You call in English. "I told you not to take that corner like that!" You sigh, sliding down off the side of the turret before you grab a couple links of replacement tracks off its side. "It's a Pershing, not a Subaru! You're lucky you didn't crack it altogether."

You finally get a chance to look around the hanger. From the looks of it, it's empty- you're guessing that most of the people left are either raising the B2 or watching it being raised- you sort of feel bad for Sodoko and her team- busy practicing with the I-Go instead of watching their tank.

As your crew scramble about Black Jack to make repairs to the damaged track, you take a look around you- You don't hear anyone or see anyone. The hanger is calm, empty and quiet. Too quiet.

You don't like that- bad things happen when it's calm and quiet. Quiet lures you into a false sense of safety and then hammers you with a large-caliber round that you would've seen coming if you are awake and on edge like you are in a loud, chaotic situation. You pull out your phone and start putting together a text to Yukari- "Had to come back for a repair- where is everyone?"

The reply isn't immediate, so you go back to the repairs, helping your crew de-tension the tracks so you can remove and replace the warped, but not-quite-broken track link. (Well, actually three of them- they rarely break in just one place...) It's not exactly the most difficult job, but it's heavy and time consuming. You barely hear your phone go off to signify a reply nearly a half hour later.

"B2 is secured and being lifted- going to take a while." You read it and put the phone back down. You're about to go back and start helping again when the rigner goes off again. "We're coming back to the hanger."

You throw yourself into the work of decoupling the damage track links- not a difficult thing to do consider how difficult it is to de-couple them. However, you've got five people on the problem which makes most of the grunt work go by quickly- you're just about to finish the job when you hear a snide voice from the hanger door. "So, this is the great Black Jack? I'm not impressed."

Yeah, you know exactly who that is and you stand up ready to give Erika a piece of your mind and possibly all of your wrench. However framed in the doorway is not just Maho's mouthy and generally inconsiderate second-in-command, but Miho looking a bit surprised, her older sister Maho looking completely unscrutible, as well as Anzu's turtle team and the remainder of Anglerfish team. (And Yukari's still in her wetsuit- probably why she took a while to answer.)

You've got one chance here to not look like a complete loser. Or a belligerant foreigner. Or both. So you stand up, wiping your hands on a grease rag before setting it down on top of the trackwell. "You don't need to be impressed, but if you're smart you'll still respect the Pershing- more than enough armor and firepower to knock out a Tiger." Erika can disrespect you or the team all she wants, but Black Jack, given half a chance, will take her words and shove them down her throat. You make a note of demonstrating that if you make it that far in the tournement.

Maho nods, looking up at the 90mm main gun, currently rotated back in the travel position. She says a single word, and you can't glean a single thing from it. "Noted."

What looks like a Sherman chugs up to the two tanks, a boy the same age as you pops his head out “Hey Ashley”
“ASHLEY”

The Commander's hatch opens on the T-34, a frowning Ashley exits wordlessly

Looks like she's taking it pretty hard

Kate follows closely behind and they begin hooking the T-34 up to be towed out

You assume the guy is Teej

“How's it going” you call out

“Would be better if you hadn't messed up the crossing” he calls back. Unfortun prompting Ashley to glare at you

You throw a thumbs up and a half hearted smile

Great

>[1/?]
>>
>>31177761

“I'm not sure I can actually pull you guys out” he calls out “how much does that way?”

“Fifty tons” you shout back “or somewhere around that”

“That's a problem, probably get another tank to come out and help pull” he motions to the boom “can only take twenty thousand pounds, I don't know how much that is in tons, but it's probably less”

The Recovery vehicle winches the front of the T-34 up and begins dragging it off leaving you and your crew
“Lets try to get it out before they come back” you tell Hamish “we look like assholes”

“Flooring it” Hamish calls over the intercom

The bow kicks up as the T32 starts climbing up the embankment, engine roaring with life you only partially worry about the transmission shudder. You come down with a spring in your treads, the tank bouncing lightly in place
“Should have tried this earlier dummy” you say through the intercom “lets head back, it's starting to get hot as balls out here”

>[2/?]
>>
>>31177788

“Adam” you turn. It's Rick's son standing at the entrance to the Hangar “I thought you were waiting to get hauled out”

You amble over “oh, nah, we weren't that stuck. What's up?”

“That was some great work out there, you remind me of myself when I was around about your age”

“You must have been pretty cool” you say complimenting yourself

He grunts before responding “yeah, we didn't do three-on-ones though, your match was actually impressive”

“NO” you turn back into the Hangar to see Ashley storming up mustering all the reightous fury she can “you damaged the field before the match started”

“Who told you that” you say once again feigning ignorance

“TJ did, he said you churned up the ford as you were crossing”

“We were just having transmission problems” you call over to Hamish crouching over the engine bay “we were having problems with the transmission right?”

“Yeah” he calls back before returning to whatever

“See” you do a thumbs up

Rick's son shoots you in the foot “that's funny because you reversed in the middle of the crossing”

>[3/?]
>>
>>31177808

And then saves you “but it wasn't against the rules” he winks “it's in there now, but it's not going to be retroactive””

“So you did do it” she points an accusatory finger at you, waving it menacingly

You shrug “how else was I going to win?”

“By...” she pauses and scrunches up her brow

You answer for her “we weren't going to win with out bending the rules a little, your plan to encircle us would have worked if everything went right”

Her gaze drops to the floor and her hands slither their way into her pockets “I gotta go work on my, uh, tank”

You watch her shuffle off with a cloud hanging over her head
“Hope I didn't make her cry” you say to Rick's son

He shrugs “I'm sure she'll be fine” he pauses and rubs his chin “I have an opportunity for you”

“Oh yeah?” he perks your interest

>[4/?]
>>
>>31177822

“Currently we don't have any instructors” he scratches the back of his neck while talking “so my dad wants to know if you can give some pointers”

You nod “what's in it for me?”

“Money”

You can't control your smile “how much are we talking?”

“Around six-hundred per session” he says frankly

You run the tip of your tongue along your teeth, hardly supressing a laugh “that's what I'm talking about. Hell yeah I'll do it”

“Great” he claps, his attention turns into the Hangar “what's your boy doing?”

You turn to see Rob talking to Ashley. He makes eye contact with you, you give him a thumbs up before turning back to Rick's son “who cares, but six-hundred is a lot”

His attention turns back to you and he rubs the back of his chin again “we've got a bunch of money that's supposed to be for Instructors, but we haven't really found anyone that's actually good, most of the people we get are armchair generals that watch History Channel for all their training”

“How come you don't do it?”

He points a thumb at himself and with a smile he responds “me? I have a day job, “oh we gotta go over the details with my Dad”

>[5/?]
>>
>>31177843

“All ya gotta do is show up on Wednesdays and teach them how to win like you do” Rick says with a happy little smile

You don't win through tactics or strategy, usually by getting in your opponents head and fucking them up. You glance at his son, he's go the same idea as you “I don't know if my way is the best thing to teach”

He shakes his finger on the table to make a point while speaking to his son “you think he's good right?”

Rick's son leans on the desk supported with one hand, he doesn't try to argue “yeah he's good” he gives you a nod

“Alright, I'll do it” you say agreeing to the terms “do you need me to sign anything?”

“Yeah, I'll get it drawn up by next week, get you to sign it on Saturday and you can come in on Sunday” Rick drums the table finishing up “I better go check out on the Recovery effort, you really put on a good show”

“Yeah” you put on a little smirk. Feels good

“You guys got icecream?” you ask Rick's son as the two of you leave his father's office

“Yeah” he leads you to a large floor freezer and swings it open, vapor rushes out and kisses you briefly appears before dissolving again

“That's a lot of icecream”

Rick's son waves at it “It's diabetes is what it is, take some for your boys, you put on a good show, gotta get rid of it anyway”

“Check this out nigga” you say to John as you walk back into the Hangar

He's working on the left side of the turret with a pot of paint cleaning it up a bit, his attention doesn't waver

“I got iceblocks”

“Yoooo” he drops the paintbrush into the pot and ambles over

“One for everyone” you say looking around at the decidedly empty Hangar only spotting Kate wearing some baggy shorts and a wifebeater, that girl with the brown hair wearing Dukes and a Flannel shirt today, and John with his Overalls tied around his waist

Rob might be right. We kind of look like Prisoners in these things

He grabs an iceblock from your hands “that's right, Hamish took Rob and Ashley into town”

“That's cool” you say holding the iceblocks, they're starting to feel really cold. You call out to Kate and that other girl bumbling around the T32 “oi, you guys want an iceblock?”

“Girls” Kate corrects you

“This shit is cold, come and get some, or don't and I'll eat it”

The two of them approach and grab themselves an iceblock each. You retire to your tank, sitting on the trackguards careful to keep your back off the wet paint

Between licks Kate starts up a conversation “I was looking over your tank after the battle”

“Find anything cool?” you ask slathering all over the iceblock. Das good mayne

“Have you guys ever replaced any parts of your hull?”

You know where she's going with this “only the front, all the gouges and scraps are from rounds that don't penetrate” you run a hand along her flanks “we paint over them so it doesn't shine”

You remember something “where ah, where did Hamish and Rob and thingy go?”

“Ashley? You mean, not just thingy”

“Sure”

“They went to watch a movie, I think Hamish is getting something for the Transmission” John shrugs

“Oh, that dog” you say impressed “S'all good though, not like Rob ever helped with the tank anyway”
You see that brunette smiling a coy little smile

“Something funny Daisy Duke?” you say attempting to uncover that smile
John snorts

Her brow furrows as she trys to figure out what you mean “pardon?”

“Kate, what's she grinning about?”

“Oh, well Ashley was really down about losing the match, and really mad at you because you cheated” she starts giggling “so Rob said you'd help us fix our tank”

You inhale heavily through your nostrils “well, I hope she puts out”

John snorts again “only the first date”

“What?” the Brunette says

“You heard me” you say no longer caring now that you have to do more shit

Kate just crosses her arms “funny guy” she says unimpressed with your opinion

You clap your hands “okay, lets just do this” you walk over to their T-34 collapsed in the corner of the Hangar

“Oh man, that thing is beat to shit” you over hear John's tactful comment

“Well, you've taken out the Upper Frontal Plate, so we have to replace that, and the Drive Sprocket on the left side is gone” she sighs “luckily you only clipped it and took off the track so the hull itself doesn't need replacement”

“Do we need to weld anything?”

“Yeah, but Elliot can do that” she says looking towards the Brunette

So that's her name

“Wasn't expecting that” you hear John say

“You weren't expecting her to know how to weld, or that her name was Elliot?” you joke

“Hey” he points an accusatory finger at you “you don't even ask people their names”

You clear your throat “lets get to work shall we”

“So I was watching this porno the other day” you say holding the Sprocket flush against the bushings while John tightens it into place with a torque wrench

“Porn?” he says mildly amused “what happened to Taylor?”

“I heard she sucked some guy's dick for Meth, so I'm not gonna touch that anymore”

“Ewww”
Hmm. That's not John's husky voice

You look over your shoulder. Shit

“What up Caitlin” you greet them “and friends”

“uhm, don't worry” she turns away, preparing to move off

“What do you want Caitlin”

She turns back, her cheeks flush “can we see your tank?” she responds in a tame voice

“Yeah, go ahead” you wave to it

“Thanks” she says quickly before skipping off with her crew

“So anyway” you say turning back to John who just finished tightening up the last nut, you quickly look over your shoulder to make sure no one is listening in “the biggest creampie I have ever seen, literal waterfall coming out”
You notice too late. John and his shit eating grin

Great

You run your tongue along your teeth as you turn to face the next person that decided now of all times was the best time to come up behind you

You don't know what her face looks like with a full face welding mask on, but it's probably disgust

“You need something?”

Her response is slightly muffled through the mask “we need some help getting the plate off” she leads the two of you over to the front of their tank “don't touch the edges, it's still a bit hot and a bit rough so we have to clean it up”

“How do you guys usually get it off?” you ask looking at the remains of the steel plate

“Just pull on it”

“Alright, lets do this John” you say sliding your fingers behind the Glacis which has dislodged slightly “put a little muscle into it”

The two of you heave. It dislodges with such ease your momentum carries you backwards and onto your backside

“Jesus fuck”

You stand up and brush yourself off. Elliot and Kate happen to be giggling from that disaster, Caitlin and her crew are laughing their asses off too

John cracks up “twice in one day huh”

You crack a smile “s'all good” you say letting them know you're okay. Though it doesn't look like they care from all the laughing at your misfortune
