>Previously, on Avatar Quest....
After your amazing victory over the Crocodile Wolf, you spent the next few days relaxing. During that time, word spread around the city, and soon everyone was talking about you. You had the fur of the beast made into a coat , and its head mounted on your wall. You were trying to decide what to do on a beautiful day, when some commotion around the corner caught your attention. Following the noise to its source, you found two large men exchanging heated words with one another. This soon escalated into a fight, resulting in one of the men receiving a broken arm and broken nose. The other man introduced himself as Chin-Hew, and told the crowd that had assembled during the fight that he and his friends were now in charge. You warned him that the soldiers would stop him, but he laughed it off, assuring you that they were no threat. Taking matters into your own hands, you created a whip with water and used it to knock him out cold. Two of his associates, a young man and a girl about your age then appeared and attacked you. You quickly found yourself overwhelmed, and received a nasty cut to the face before being saved by the timely arrival of your mother. The two of you fought the pair, and you managed to knock the man out, while the girl fled. Your mother took the two unconscious thugs away while you briefly talked to a woman who was in the crowd, named Yang-Lee. You then travelled to the woods to practice your waterbending, drawing the attention of a monster.

>Rules
Choices are made by voting on options over ten minute intervals. Some options are actions that require a dice roll. Dice rolls are not done until an option has one so as to prevent metagaming. Most rolls require 2 out of the first three to be winning rolls. A 4 or below in the first 3 causes whatever you are attempting to go rather poorly, unless a roll of 96 or higher comes first. A roll of 96 or higher in the first 5 rolls causes whatever you are attempting to go extremely well unless a roll of 4 or below happens before it (unless the 4 or below was the 4th roll, in which case it doesn't count).

All votes are final, if you regret voting for something, think more before you vote in the future.

Your curiosity overrides your instinct to flee, and you remain where you are, staring out into the lake.

A fin rises into view, cutting through the water as it swiftly speeds towards you. As it approaches the shore, waves rise and crash against it. It does not take long for the creature to approach, and you find yourself both awestruck and terrified as the creature's full form comes into view. The creature moves on four bulky legs, which support its massive body. Its body is covered in a gigantic shell, and from that shell extends a long neck, ending in a narrow head with a large fin curling back from it. A pair of black, unsettling eyes stare at you, and the beast opens its mouth to reveal row after row of jagged teeth.

It seems the kids in your city were right about there being a monster in the lake, although there is a name for the beast other than "monster".

It's a Shark Turtle. From the stories you've heard about these great beasts, you know your chances of defeating it in a fight are virtually nonexistent.

You realize that trying to fight this thing would more than likely result in your death. So, you do the smart thing and retreat. As the creature begins to move towards you, you turn and flee, easily outrunning the beast, which seems to have some difficulty moving quickly on land. Of course, the reason you outrunning it so easily could be because could be because of how quickly you move. You speed through the forest, creating a gust of wind that blows against the trees and the leaves on the ground. Your speed seems unnatural, but you can hardly complain, seeing as it gets you away from the beast. Looking back, you can't even see it anymore. In all likelihood, it returned to the lake. However, you don't take any chances and keep running until you make it back to the city.

When you finally stop running, you're out of breath, and your legs ache. Still, that was incredible! You wonder if you can do that again.

Of course we try to run that fast again. That was awesome. It might not be airbending, though. It could be some form of waterbending to supercharge our muscles, like how healing can redirect internal energies. Probably was airbending, though.

Man, waterbending is the most OP of the elements, just by virtue of its versatility. The typical elemental telekinesis, cryokinesis, the ability to manipulate biological systems through healing and bloodbending, and exorcizing dark spirits. Though you could probably do that last one with any element if you knew what you were doing, given how Wan imprisoned Vaatu.

Ignoring your exhaustion, you make the decision to try that again! And why wouldn't you? That was amazing!

Turning back into the forest, you break into a sprint. You feel a bit odd, as if the wind around you is shifting to oppose you less, and you run at inhuman speed through the forest. You weave through trees, leap over rocks and fallen logs, reaching great heights with your impressive running start.

It's incredibly invigorating, moving so quickly with no more effort than it would normally take for you to run. You feel amazing, you feel powerful, you feel free.

Soon enough, you stop running, leaning against a tree and catching your breath. You may be able to move fast, and it may take no more effort than normal running, but it takes energy regardless.

As you catch your breath and take some time to rest, the rustling of leaves in the tree above you catches your attention. Looking up, you see a familiar face staring down at you. Brown eyes lock with yours, and the person's face breaks into a predatory grin. You know this girl, you and your mother fought her earlier.

"Well, fancy meeting you here," she comments.

You give a polite greeting in return, resulting in an amused smile from the girl. She drops down from the tree, landing in a crouching position and rising to her feet.

"Well, that's interesting. I really wasn't expecting manners from somebody I cut. Of course, I wasn't expecting you to be around to meet a second time. Life is full of surprises," she comments.

She casually strolls to a nearby tree and leans against it. Despite the fact that she seems completely and utterly at ease, you notice that she is keeping her hands close to her daggers, ready to draw them and fight at a moment's notice. It seems the girl doesn't completely trust you not to attack, or perhaps she plans to do the attacking. It might be smart to keep on your guard.

"I saw you coming," she tells you. "You were fast. I didn't think anybody could move that quickly! How did you do that?"

Rather than an explanation, you decide to give the girl a demonstration.

Standing up straight, you turn and dash off. The girl doesn't even try to follow you, and soon she is out of sight. You feel that odd sensation once again as you move like the wind through the forest. You pass countless trees, rocks, and animals as you dash towards the city, reaching it quickly and stopping to catch your breath.

You think back to the encounter you just had with the knife-throwing girl, and you find yourself curious about a few things.

What was she doing all the way out there? Hiding? Looking for something? Does she live there? Her simply hiding from the soldiers seems like the most probable explanation. Still, her behavior was a bit odd. Why did she reveal her presence to you? If she'd wanted, she could have attacked you from the tree and caught you entirely off guard The rustling of leaves from her movement gave her away, but she still would have had time to attack before you could do anything to defend yourself, especially with no water to bend. She was also strangely friendly; well, that is to say that she was as friendly as a psycho who cut you can be. She made no move to pursue you, either, though, that was likely just because she knew it would be a futile gesture.

You've regained your breath; time to decide what to do next.

I suggest stocking up on some pocket sand and other dirty accessories for surprise and dry encounters. Maybe a flask of water?
>>
>>31185782
This is a good idea. We should probably carry some bending water with us at all times, Katara-style.
>>
>>31185782
We should get around to this at some point, yeah. A set of waterskins are essential for any good combat waterbender. It's what lets them have the cool iaido water blade trick.
>>
>>31185782
By the way, I have a great idea. We water bend. So we get water, and blackjack that's empty inside with a hole on the tip (penis jokes are okay). Then we stuff the water into it, and when the pressure is HUEG, we block the hole with something spiky.

Now we have a gun-mace with some surprise water supply.
>>
>>31185861
that's pretty fucking bamf
>>
>>31185861
I'm not sure how practical that would be. The waterskin would probably just burst if we tried it. Still, we should experiment with pressurization. We need that if we're going to do any really effective bending. Same with using water to absorb impact. That should be our next trick to learn. Water shields, can we do it?

As always, you want to show your mom what you learned to do. Some people would find that childish, but you love your mother, and it makes you happy when you show her something that makes her proud.

So, you set off and make your way to the tower. The soldiers seem a bit more alert than usual, all of them actually at their posts and paying attention to their surroundings. Apparently, the idea of criminals running amuck in their city is enough to inspire some hard work in them.

One of the soldiers, noticing you approach, walks over to meet you.

"Hey, your mother isn't here right now," he tells you, accurately guessing why you've decided to visit. "I think she's in a meeting with the magistrate right now, discussing what to do with some criminals. I hear you had a hand in capturing them. Nice work."

You leave the tower, and decide to let your mother handle the meeting with the magistrate on her own.

You walk through the city until you reach the shopping district; a square area containing dozens of shops and stands selling all kinds of goods. You can buy anything here from food and water to weapons and armor. As you stroll past a row of stands and kiosks, you hear the loud yelling of a few merchants over the noise of shoppers looking for something to buy.

"The purest water in the whole kingdom! Only one copper piece a flask!"

You approach the merchant shouting about water, and see that water is literally all that he is selling. His stand is covered in flasks of it, and each one only costs a copper piece.

Having a flask to carry around could be useful; you would have an easily replenished supply of water to use for bending. That would certainly make you less vulnerable when you're not around a natural water source. You have one silver piece with you; your parents pay you one each month in exchange for you doing work around the house and running errands for them. It's enough to buy a hundred flasks.

"Silence! You do not understand true quality! Now go back to selling those pathetic statuettes. You are wasting my time, as well as the time of this young man," the merchant replies before turning his attention back to you.

With your water flasks and water in hand, you leave the market, the sounds of merchants telling everyone of their wares and shoppers noisily milling about slowly fading as you walk the streets.

It doesn't take long for you to sight the magistrate's home. At two stories tall, it towers over the other dwellings in the city; a fine illustration of the power the magistrate has over the people here.

You approach the entrance, earning you some wide-eyed stares from several people as you boldly walk towards the magistrate's home. A pair of guards in full armor stand at the entrance, each holding a spear. They drop into a fighting stance as you approach.

"The magistrate is not accepting any visitors," one of them informs you as you draw closer. "You are not welcome here, turn back now."

"Actually, he is welcome here," says someone from just inside.

A third man emerges from the building, also decked in full armor, but carrying a large hammer.

"In fact, the magistrate has requested his presence," the man continues. "Let him pass, unless you'd rather tell the magistrate he may not decide who is allowed to enter his home."

The two guards lower their weapons and return to their normal positions. The third man waits for you to approach, then ushers you inside.

"I apologize for them," he tells you as he leads you through the Magistrate's home. "They take their duties very seriously. It's an admirable quality, but they sometimes act before being fully aware of a situation. I am Cleuhn, captain of the magistrate's guard."

He walks you through the magistrate's home, lavishly decorated with statuettes, the heads of beasts mounted on walls, fine jewels on display, and the banner of the city covering the ceiling. Cleuhn leads you to a staircase which goes up to the top floor. He starts up the stairs, and you follow. Once you reach the top, he walks you to a room right down the hall.

With him gone, you enter the magistrate's chambers. There is a striking contrast between this room and the rest of his home; it is a relatively small, bare room with only a desk in its center with a pair of chairs in front of it. One of the chairs is occupied by your mother. Her helmet is off, and she looks rather angry about something. Behind the desk sits an overweight man with blue eyes, white hair, and a bald spot in the middle of his head. He is leaning back casually in his chair, his head turning towards you as you approach.

"Ah, you must be the young man I have heard so much about," he greets as you take a seat in the chair beside your mother. "I am pleased that you arrived so quickly, we have much to discuss. Your mother was telling me about the incident that occurred near your home. She claims to have arrived towards the end of what happened, and from what I have heard, you were there more or less from the beginning. So, I would like to hear your account of what has happened."

You figure that it's best not to lie, and tell him about the events exactly as they happened. He sits calmly and attentively, as does your mother, as you recall the experience. When you are finished, they both remain silent for a few moments. The magistrate is the first to speak.

"First off, I want to commend you for what you did. It takes a very brave young man to stand up to someone like that," he tells you. "I also wish to express my admiration for the skill you displayed; waterbending of that caliber is rare, and I believe you will go on to do even greater things with it. Now, as for what is to be done about the two criminals you and your mother captured. Yang-Hew will be set free, and his accomplice will be imprisoned."

"What?!" your mother exclaims, rising to her feet.

The magistrate looks at her calmly. "If you will allow it, I will explain myself."

Your mother reluctantly sits.

"Thank you," he tells her. "Now, while I am by no means doubting your claims of the acts he committed and the threats he made, I do not view it quite as seriously as you do. The man that Yang-Hew wounded attacked him first. While Yang-Hew's words no doubt angered him, Yang-Hew was still justified in defending himself. And, as for the threats he made about taking control of this city, I believe the two of you demonstrated just how empty those threats were. You defeated him with a single strike, and the two of you captured one of his accomplices and forced the other to retreat. So, as his statements are nothing more than empty boasts, and his acts of violence were committed in self-defense, he must be released. I understand your distaste for the man, but that is what must be done."

Before you leave, you think it best to tell him about your encounter with the girl in the woods. He once more listens intently, as does your mother as you describe what happened.

"You are saying she had a perfect chance to attack you, but did not take it?" he asks. "Not only that, but she actually revealed where she was to you."

"You had no water to bend, and even if you did, she still would have had a chance of defeating you," your mom comments. "I wonder why she did nothing."

"That is peculiar," the magistrate agrees. "I also find this running you described to be odd."

Your mother nods. "I've never heard of anything like it."

"I have," the magistrate tells her. "Some airbenders have done what he has done."

"Well, yes, I know airbenders have done it, but my son is a waterbender," she responds.

He nods. "I know. This is strange indeed. Young man, would you be willing to demonstrate this speed of yours?"

You tell him that you'd like to demonstrate somewhere with more space. He chuckles at that.

"That's probably a wise idea. We'll head outside, there is plenty of room in the streets," he tells you. "If you have been able to run through the forest without hitting any trees or animals, you should have no problem avoiding hitting people."

The three of you stand and leave the room. You walk down the stairs and exit the building. The guards follow immediately, and you hear your mother mutter something under her breath.

With plenty of space open to you, you show your mom and the magistrate what you can do. You dash down the road at incredible speed, running out of sight of the others before turning and running right back. You stop right in front of your mother and the magistrate, who stare at you, stunned. Looking around, you see similar reactions from nearby civilians.

"That was...remarkable," the magistrate manages to say.

"Amazing," your mom comments, smiling at you. "You always find a way to become more impressive. Every time I let you go off on your own, you come back with some great new achievement. If I leave you alone long enough, you might learn fire bending."

Your mom and the guards laugh, while the magistrate gives you a curious look.

"You are a very interesting young man," he comments. "I look forward to seeing what else you accomplish in the future. Forgive me, but I have business to attend to. Thank you both for all that you have done."

He turns to your mother. "By the way, your brother wishes to speak with you."

Your mom scowls, but nods as the magistrate and his two guards go back inside.

You're confused. Your mom never mentioned having a brother before. Your dad never mentioned her having one either. You always thought she was an only child.

You do as she says and leave, allowing her to speak with her brother in private.

However, you don't go home as she instructed. Instead, you head for the docks, wanting to visit your father. There are relatively few people there at the moment, as most of them are leaving for the night. You find your father chatting with some of his coworkers. One of them tells him that you're here, and he turns to face you, a grin on his face.

"Well, this is a pleasant surprise. It's always nice to have my son come and visit," he tells you as he walks over and gives you a big hug. "What's this I hear about you and your mother capturing criminals together? Following in her footsteps, are you?" He steps back, still smiling at you. "You'd be a fine soldier, I'm sure. Though, personally I'd rather we not need soldiers, I've seen enough war for my lifetime. Still, protecting others is always a noble goal." He chuckles. "Sorry, I'm rambling. You tell your dad that you wanted to see him, and also that you have some tricks you want him to see. He and his coworkers look at one another before taking seats on some nearby creates and watching you. You give one hell of a show' wavers, waterwhips, and incredibly fast runs. Soon, they all wear the same stunned expressions as the last group of people you showed these tricks too. After recovering from their initial shock, they give you a round of applause.

Your father stands and gives you another hug. "That's my boy! Come on, let's go home. I'll bet you're hungry."

He leads you home and begins to prepare dinner. As he cooks, you tell him about your meeting with the magistrate, and how your mother reacted to his decision. Your father shakes his head.

"I'm sure she was furious," he tells you. "I can't say I blame here, but at the same time I understand the magistrate's decision."

You then ask him about your uncle, and why your mother never mentioned him before. He stops what he's doing, visibly tensing up. He turns to look at you.

"It isn't really my business to tell you about this," he responds. "Let's just say your mother and your uncle aren't on the best of terms. Other than that, it's up to your mother what she wants you to know."

The two of you sit down and enjoy a delicious meal. You chat about lighter topics, and enjoy one another's company as you eat. Soon, you are finished, and your mother has not yet returned home. You feel exhausted, all of the exertion from today finally hitting you. You should really get some sleep.

Your father gives you a warm smile. "Go get some rest, I'll wait up for your mom."

You tell him that you'd rather stay up and wait for your mom. The look on his face tells you he doesn't really like that idea, but he doesn't try to discourage you. The two of you sit together, making small talk and waiting. Time slowly passes, and you feel yourself growing more and more exhausted. Eventually, is becomes too much, and you simply pass out.

You aren't sure how much time has passed when you are awakened by yelling. Opening your eyes and looking in the direction of the noise, you see your father talking to a pair of soldiers.

"Are you certain?!" your father demands.

"Yes sir," one of the soldiers tells him calmly. "You have our condolences. She was a great warrior and a great woman, she will be missed."

"Take me to her," your father demands.

The two soldiers exchange looks.

"I don't think that's such a good idea," the other soldier tells him.

"I said take me to her, now!" your father yells.

Sighing in resignation, the soldier nods and leads your father from your home.

After that exchange, there is no way you can't follow them. Terror spreads through you as you think about what the soldiers said.

"She was a great warrior and a great woman, she will be missed"

You can think of only one person that they could be talking about, but you can't accept that. It can't be who you think it is, it just can't.

It's dark outside, telling you it's either late at night or early in the morning. It's difficult to see, but you manage. And, keeping up with the others isn't exactly an issue with your speed. The group stops about half way between your home and the magistrate's home. Several soldiers holding torches stand over something. Your father approaches and lets out a cry of despair. He falls to his knees, putting his head in his hands, his body shaking as he sobs uncontrollably, the grief rolling off of him in intense waves. You are now more certain than ever what you're about to see, and the thought terrifies you. But, you rush over, pushing your way through the soldiers and looking down at the body.
'
Your mother lies on her back, her head twisted to the side, bone jutting from her neck. Her nose looks bent, and dried blood stains her face just below it. The sight is horrific, but it doesn't stop there. A long, deep cut runs down her chest, exposed, as her armor, as well as her sword, is missing. There also appears to be a stab wound in her thigh. As you stare at the broken body that was once your mother, something inside of you snaps.

What happens next is....different, to say the least. The wind picks up around you, forming a funnel around you and lifting you into the air. The ground below you shakes, throwing many soldiers off their feet. You feel...strange, almost as if your body isn't entirely yours. You let out a scream of pain and fury, and you swear you can hear three other voices screaming with you; two male, and one female.

Below you, the ground continues to tremble, and the wind continues to blow, gaining strength until it lifts your mothers body and flows it away. All at once, everything seems to come back together, you settle back into your body, and slowly lower to the ground. Ignoring what you just did, and hardly even remembering it, you run over to your mother's body.

You do what anyone else would do in your situation; you cry. You cry harder than you have in your entire life, like a small child, your body shaking uncontrollably as you voice your grief. You think back to all the good times with your mother; how she'd take you on walks through the woods when you were younger, how she'd tell you stories before you went to sleep, how she'd always make you feel safe and protected just by being there, whether there was anything to protect you from or not. You think back to her lecturing you when you lied, and her praising you when you did something to make her proud, which was very often. In fact, she and your dad never stopped telling you how much they loved you and how proud you made them. You think back to more recent things, such as the other day when she told you stories by the lake, and earlier this very day when she saved your life from those criminals. You loved her so much, and she loved you even more. And now, after everything, she's gone.

Oh yes, that's true. I had forgotten about that. Though I kind of assumed that more than one person would have to dance with the dragons for the legend to really spread. Maybe over in the Fire Isles the Sun Warrior civilization is forming around this time and establishing their ties with the dragons. Hell, it's not clear how old Ran and Shou were, they might be alive even now. Could we get a chance to meet them, MINOC?

we just didn't do many non-assured actions. if we were in combat, there would have been a lot of rolling

There weren't a whole lot of situations that demanded it; most of the bending you did you've gotten pretty good at, so you should usually be able to use them properly when just showing off or practicing.

There are many places you will have a chance to visit and many people and creatures you can meet. I won't give any details, but you do have a chance to meet certain creatures/characters from the show.

I think we're definitely going to meet a certain face stealing spirit, right?
