Tough decisions can be harder to face than actual battles, sometimes. You think this is one of those.

Your alliance defeated Tarien Dorian, the Prince of the Black Swamp, and reclaimed thousands of kilometres of Wyldland to Creation. This land has been divvied up, with the lion's share going to you, including two powerful water-aspected demesnes and the remainder of the Wyldland, ruled over by your new pet Silk.

Now, you're back in Tianna and put in front of the choice.
On one side, you are the lawful queen of Gem, since you were a mortal, and you plan to return from your exile and reclaim your throne someday.
On the other, you now own land of the island of Tianna. You conquered it in battle against the enemies of Creation, and your claim is just as legitimate.
And lastly, you do not want to part ways and sever connections with Amata's kingdom. She has been a good friend, a gracious host, a steadfast ally and a passionate lover, and you could say the same of Samiel and Irene. You feel like a part of the family and kingdom yourself.
And you've decided that you are not going to give up any one of these three things.

You have already discussed with Tia and found a solution together to propose to Amata.

"Amata." You tell her, softly lying down in your bed. You stare at the roof with a long sigh, your mind and heart in chaos.

She caresses your head. "You look like you've got a lot on your mind."

You smile tiredly in response. "I do, don't I. I... I want to stay close to you. But..."

"But you have a destiny. A calling, from a higher power." She nods. "And, on top of that, you have your own past. Your own kingdom."

You nod.

"...I and Tia came up with an idea. It's a crazy idea, so feel free to shoot it down."

She lies down next to you. "I'm listening."

Tia, with a grin wide as her mouth, lies down on the other side, combing a hand through your hair. "You'll like it."

Millian, a bit embarrassed, looks at Regis questioningly. "Are they going to...?"

>Who are we?
Maka, an exiled noble recently Exalted as a Zenith-caste Solar. She's in the western city of Tianna as a guest of queen Amata (DB), an old friend. Abyssals are targeting the city for conquest, Lintha pirates have infiltrated it with spies and agents, and half the island is controlled by paranoid Lunars. Fun times.

>Solar? Zenith? I don't know Exalted...
This quest is as newbie-friendly as possible, and I want it to work as a newbie's intro to Exalted. If you have ANY question, ask in thread. For the setting, google "1d4chan exalted".

>Archive?
http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=zenith

>System?
Dicepool-like system. When performing an action, everyone rolls 1d10 when posting. the first X rolls are considered, where X is equal to attribute + ability. Yes, this means that the more people are posting, the stronger Maka is, up to a limit of her attribute + ability.

>XP?
Attributes cost [current score x5] xp. Abilities cost [current score x3] xp, except Zenith costing [(current score x3) -1]. Charms cost 10 xp, except for Zenith-based charms (related to charisma and physical/mental fortitude) which cost 8 xp. At the end of every "session" (thread) you will be presented with a list of possible acquisitions.

Notes:
The previous thread was filled with discussion and votes on how to handle this. It was chaotic, more than a bit stupid, and the vote through strawpoll was obviously manipulated, but I did learn something about it. I don't know if that thread will survive in the archives, or if it should. In case it doesn't: nothing happened in it in-game, it was all out-of-game discussions, so if you're reading this from archives don't worry, you didn't miss anything important.

Also, sorry for not putting a title on the thread, forgot. This is Session 26.

"You can stay." You smile, patting the free space on the bed.

Nervously, the maid and the butler walk up to it and sit down. Amata seems endlessly entertained by their reactions.

"...So, what was your idea?" She asks you.

"I want to rule together with you." You say, turning to her. "We've known each other for a long time. I know you. I trust you. And... I'm a bit ashamed to admit that I also need you."

"Nothing to be ashamed of." She nods, caressing the silky texture of your tabard with gentle tugs. The fabric it's made of is so smooth and soft to the touch it's almost addictive. "Tianna has an already-established bureaucracy, government, and, in general, a fairly solid structure. It's better to expand something that's already there, rather than building from zero."

"I thought you had no interest in territorial expansion." You reply.

"Not for myself." She explains. "But if we're together? And I have my own personal sexy, charismatic powerhouse with her own pirate army, and her husband who eats Fae kingdoms for breakfast? Well, no reason not to get a bit ambitious, is there?"

"Speaking of which." You grasp Amata's hand and hold it in yours, and with the other hold Tia's. "...I and Tia would like to get married just after the festival for Dancing Smoke. Either here in Tianna, or..."

"Or in your new Manse when it will be ready, right?" She guesses. "Maybe it would be better to do it there? It would be more... your own thing. If you can wait."

"I waited a lot." Tia mumbles. "I can wait a bit more. I'll let Maka decide. there to hold it."

"On the other hand, doing it here could make a positive impression on the people of Tianna." She notes. "If we handle it well. I'd be the one marrying you of course."

"About that." Tia interjects, but you prod her in the side. You'll talk about that later.

The big ceremony can be the marriage with Amata
>>

I don't care so much about where we do it, I care about how. We need to get an astrologer to find out when the next solar eclipse will be, or at least a time when the sun and moon are both visible in the sky. Then, we need to be priestess-bride sanctifying the marriage in the name and light of both sun and moon, praying to our respective deities for their blessings.

Let's go full-Zenith on this.

"...I'll wait for our manse to be ready." You say. "Which... brigs me to my next marriage."

Amata slowly drags herself over you, resting her chin on your stomach. "...Is that an offer?"

You nod. "It is."

Millian almost falls from the bed. "You can't mean-..."

"I do." You reply.

Amata smiles and drags herself a bit closer to your face. "You're planning for yourself a serious harem of beautiful and powerful women, Maka."

"Yes!" goes Tia. "I'm so proud of her!"

You didn't feel a shred of shame walking around with no clothes in Freeport, but this is making you shy and embarrassed in a very weird way. It's so strange to discuss this with Amata and Tia.

"There are conditions, though." Tia gets all professional, resting her arms on your chest. "I'm first. I'm at the top of the list. Are you okay with that?"

"As long as you won't keep Maka all for yourself."

You stand upright, tossing both of them off you. "...I'm not a table, you two!"

Amata giggles. "...I'm alright with being your second. I know I can't possibly compete with the bond Tia has with you. That's something that transcends this life." She kisses your navel. "All I know, however, is this Maka here. And if I'm being allowed to spend the rest of my life with her, then I'm a happy woman."

"...Weren't you already married? I was worried that..." You mumble.

"I'm sorry, I'm sorry." You raise your hands.

"By the way, another thing I wanted to ask you." She stabs an index finger in your bellybutton, making you jolt in surprise. Her finger is incredibly cold, damn Air aspect. "You did it with my son, too, didn't you?"

Tia pouts. "She didn't invite me."

"I was worried you'd break him!" You complain, clutching your chilled stomach.

"So you did." Amata pushes you down. "...How was he?"

"...Why do you dislike Dancing Smoke so much?"

"Pushy? She wanted human sacrifice." Amata points out. Millian and Regis shiver. "She did?" "And you left me with her?!"

"...I think she's very lonely." You muse. "And, well. Samiel had a great first time and worked out some of his frustrations, and she has someone to soothe her loneliness. They both gained something from it."

"...I don't like it." She's still determined. "But Samiel is an adult... in every sense of the word now I guess. He's free to live his life how he wants to. I just hope he doesn't make any mistakes. Will you keep an eye out for him?"

"Of course. He'll be my son too, soon, right?"

She nods. "...Did he dominate her, at least."

>Let's just settle into our new role as queen consort before we start preaching of Glorious Solar Supremacy.
We can have a cult without doing that. A cult is of huge benefit to us, our skillset and caste make us a natural priestess, and it can be something as simple as people offering the occasional prayer that their (new) queen keep doing a great job, or shape up their act. Religion in Exalted is much more akin to making requests and occasional offerings towards an essence-using figure, rather than actual faith in the real-world sense.

We DEFINITELY want a cult.

>>
>>31321340
>>31321362
Ideally we were going to convince the Immaculate Order that we're not a big priority as far as Solars-who-need-to-be-put-down go. The Wyld Hunt can only spare so many people with the Empress gone and the Great Houses fighting for succession, and there are 150 Solars out there now where there used to be 15 or so for the last couple thousand years.

This, however, is a sign of decadent-god-king behaviour and is the exact sort of thing they look for.

Heh, no. For one, everything was far better in that time, even with the occasional Twilight experiments. For another, the Immaculates you refer to believe that Dragon Blooded are the highest - and only - Exalts. "...Say, Amata? The Immaculates worry me." You confide to her.

"There are some here in the city, yeah. Less in the countryside. Their religion is naturally supportive of my right to rule, so I've left them alone up to now." She admits. "Though the reason they're here is pretty obviously to provide a permanent connection to the Realm."

"They're in their payroll?"

"The leaders." she points out. "Most of the people of Tianna don't want the Realm to move in, at all. They've seen what happens when they do, what with Wavecrest being one of their client states."

"Wavecrest is really poor, though. They don't have a lot of industry or resources."

"Well, Tianna isn't very different. All the west is quite resource-poor. But the Realm still forces its own governors and taxes and rules. People don't like that."

"Like you don't have your own taxes." You prod her side, payback for before.

"Well, I do, but they're spent locally. Not shipped overseas to sponsor armies that will never protect me, or extravagant orgies I won't take part in."

"Better for you to spend your citizens' money on orgies you can take part of, right?" Tia asks. You wonder how seriously.

"My orgies are fairly cheap. This one, for example, is top of the line and costing me just food and board for you two."

"...This is an orgy?" Millian seems unconvinced.

"Give us time." Tia replies.

"...See, my biggest worry is that I think my duty to the Unconquered Sun is to spread His word. And..."

"...And you think it would upset things in my city." She guesses. "...No sense hiding it: it would. Even if most people here aren't Immaculates... by now, everyone knows we're close. If you started preaching, AND we married, it'd be..."

"...close to a state religion."

"Precisely." She playfully underlines her reply with a slap to your your backside, producing a sharp sound.

"Ow."

I am to late to prevent stupidity. Allas i am sadly going to post my too late reaons spewed without editing directly from my brain and in a haste in this thread too.

Although with heavy heart i have to say i do not like the way we handled this. I thought we had it figgured out on how we are going to proceed and were not going to change from last week from Federation to now on Monarchy and Marriage alliances.

So:

And damn i do not agree with what this thing has brought us too.

Haven't we had this basic divergence already in previous threads?

Vassals to Amata will not work for us as a Solar since we will eventually outshine her by far and its going to be painful once there is conflict between us.

Marriage limits our expansion enormously and will descend into dynastic policy.

The only way for us to expand fast and be able to bring Three Rivers and eventually others like the Island of that Captain i forgot his name is a Federation.

Full on Haslanti League Style.

We don't care if you are a monarchy, a Nexus style bullshit trader town of the Guild or effing Look Shy Mk2. Or just a Mortal council hall with hired DB and God blooded specialists.

All of these can be federated. But if we go with marriaghe others will want the same since its the only way to get in without being a junior memeber forever.
In a federation they can get over being a junior member faster than in a monarchy and it can happen to more than one.

Plus with a marriage at its core we make a main core thing kind of like the Habsburg/ Austro-Hungary empire.

Fuck that shit. I say we go with a Mix of EU style join up with common law and administration standards shared coupled with a British empire dominions if we beat or have to protect someone that can eventually graduate to junior federated memebers.

They poison, use meatshields, grind down with attrition, and THEN move in for the kill. And that's when they're not also using artillery, air supremacy, and so forth.

We will not just be able to breeze past the Wyld Hunt. I'm not saying they're guaranteed to win - not by a long shot. But don't underestimate them. They're not idiots, and they are powerful, and they're very dedicated.

The problem is that we really need Eclipse help to forge up the Bureaucracy of this to work right. We really need serious bureaucracy. But for our purposes this is the net superior choice as it is the one that allows us to get Gem the easiest way, and to forge a empire in the west that can have a chance to resist the Realm -and we are going to get noticed once we get Gem back

The only reason they wont move on Gem its because its fucking far away, but the Western Archipelagos they can reach with a navy so they will strike the Island because they wont let a solar have gem and the islands.

Trying to merge Federation and Marriage Alliance and Monarchy is working at cross purposes. One goes for stability the other one is for growth. You can not do the same things and if you do merge them you get the disadvantages of both while only common advantages.

Seriously Chose one or the other. Going for both is counterproductive.

And i think we have agreed long ago that we wont be vassals to anyone and wont accept any sovereigns over us. And wont force Amata in the same position.

Thus my vote goes to pure federation. We wait for our common acquaintance the scrawny eclipse and ask for him how we could apply our idea.

Also considering how big of a deal we made marriage out to be to Tia do we really want to cheapen the whole thing to a bureaucratic procedure , especially considering we are already friends and lovers with Amata?

No, it will just incense the order even more if we do use it, and likely call in a Wyld Hunt MUCH faster. Also, it's literally lowering ourselves to exactly what they saw we are, which will hurt both future recruitment efforts and probably the way our allies see us.

Basically, it's just more problem than solution, and shady as fuck to boot.
>>
>>31322406
I reject that frame. Also I have a problem with the notion that we should allow them to continue preaching that we are demons. To invert the frame, in real life terms they are like Nazi's and we are Jews.

HSDD (or something more focused than it) is kind of like the bomb of persuasive weaponry and we are at war. Why should we restrict ourselves to the equivalent of fists when we can do better than that?

"...They think I'm a monster. And there's only one way to defeat that notion: show everyone that I'm not." You say. "Attacking them head-on... would just prove them right."

"You're not the brightest ruler ever, but you have your good moments, Maka." She ribs you.

"I just don't have all the experience you had." Beat. "'Cause you're old."

"Oh you little-"

After the short ensuing scuffle between you and Amata is broken off, you lie back down on the bed side by side. Tia then lies down by your other side, sandwiching you between the two of them.

"...If we're married, does that mean I had sex with my children." The thought suddenly hits you. "Both of them."

"Well, no blood relation:" Amata brushes it off. "Besides, still not at the same time, much less not at the same time plus their mother plus your husband all together."

"A shame." Tia shakes her head with disapproval.

"...Is it fine, though?" You wonder.

You feel Amata's tone going unusually cold and serious, taking a step away from her jokes up to a moment ago. "...Maka. I've spent years of my life in the Realm. I've seen... things, compared to which whatever orgy, whatever sexual deviancy you might have is NOTHING. I've seen, even done, things that make my skin crawl to this day."

You feel her arms gently wrapping you with their cool touch.

"Maka. You're a good person. You're honest, and you're kind. I trust you."

"Do you trust me?" Tia asks, pointing at herself.

"...Well, you seem to be even more of a pervert than Maka, but she trusts you, so I will too."

Guys, i think this discussion about UMI is pretty much capturing the essence of exalted.

The bit about having power and what you do with it and taking the high road or the hard road seems to be one of the biggest neglected facets of exalted.

So now we have a choice: To UMI or not to UMI. That is the question.
>>
>>31322588
Our goal is to stop them from summoning the Wyld Hunt. What you call mind control is merely a step up from persuasion.

Using mind control in the battle of wills is not worse than using guns in war.
>>
>>31322536
>Talk about the Manse
>Talk about Mikahil and his architect friend
>Talk about Irene

I think these three tie together pretty well.
I'm sure Irene would be interested in helping when Mikahil and his friend build it.

>>31322576
The end being good doesn't mean the means aren't shady.
UMI is shady as fuck, and there are other ways of building up our power base without calling the Wyld Hunt down on us.
Such as not directly and openly antagonizing or brainwashing the Immaculates, for starters.
Staying harmless and low key (well, relative to other Solars) is our best chance, imo.
As long as we don't make any big waves, the Realm is too busy to care about us.
>>
Rolled 8

>>31322584
Seconding this line of thought.
>>
Rolled 9

>>31322682
Right. And my stance is that we should take the harder-but-honest route. Instead of taking the easy-button and mind-controlling the immaculate monks, we should approach the situation with honesty instead of shady tactics.

I think that fits how we've played Maka so far.

And yes, the question over whether to let power corrupt you is one of the main dramatic points of Exalted, and this situation is a perfect example of it.
>>
>>31322687
>As long as we don't make any big waves

>As long as we don't make any big waves, the Realm is too busy to care about us.
It's a good thing we didn't marry a Queen, make an alliance with three Lunars, and plan to retake Gem, those would be some pretty big waves
>>
Rolled 4

>>31322687
By marrying Amata and plotting against the Immaculate Order, we've already decided we're going to have the Wyld Hunt's attention, the only question is HOW are we going to fight them
>>
>>31322685
No anon. Using most social charms is a step up from Persuasion
UMI is mind control. Whether you see it as good or evil, necessary or not, you erode and shape a person's being to your whim
>>
Rolled 6

>>31322685
>What you call mind control is merely a step up from persuasion.
No, there's a very important distinction.

Social charms like Majestic Radiant Presence directly affect our ability to socialize. They give us a bonus, and enhance us internally.

UMI like Husband-Seducing Demon Dance directly affects others' ability to resist. They affect someone else internally, and are a fundamentally external expression of power.

One is making us better at being social. The other is inducing a change directly in someone else. The distinction is important, and shouldn't be downplayed, regardless of what our decision on the matter is.
>>
>>31322729
We haven't married the Queen yet, the alliance with the Lunars wasn't exactly publicly announced (as far as the general people are concerned, we just stopped the barbarian raids) and our "plans" to retake Gem aren't even plans so much as a desire to do so.

But the important thing is staying low key compared to other Solars.
The ones who start preaching the Unconquered Sun on every street corner, beat up Realm tax collectors and generally act like asses because "Solar stronk!".

The realm has a priority hit list, and as long as we have at least one other person above us on it, we're good.
>>
>>31322709

I mean, it is mind control, but it also is a step up from persuasion.

Hmmmm...I think we should put off this decision for now. EF said that we can buy charms whenever we want.

We should first investigate them to get a sense of how difficult it will be to get Immaculates off our back.

If we use a little brains, we might be able to subdue them with words by persuading them that the Wyld Hunt would destroy Tianna along with us.

If they show no compassion, then we have all the reason to now use an UMI.
>>
>>31322884
it's completely different from persuasion

>>
Rolled 6

>>31322884
>If they show no compassion, then we have all the reason to now use an UMI.
I expect I'll still disagree if and when it comes to that - I would sooner kill them than mind-control them - but yes, let's table the discussion for now.
>>
>>31322884
I don't think we should even interact with them directly.
I think it's a better idea to just change the general attitude of the population over time so the Immaculate Faith slowly loses it's foothold in Tianna and eventually just phases out peacefully.

If we try to talk to them, they'll go full Anathema mode and send for help from the Realm because Satan just showed up in Church.

Also, I don't think we should UMI anyone. For any reason. I don't think it fits with Maka's character.
>>
Rolled 2

>>31322884
>Hmmmm...I think we should put off this decision for now.
It's for the best for now at least
>>
>>31322884
>If they show no compassion, then we have all the reason to now use an UMI.

Or they could show compassion in that although the society may get fucked up by dragging us down, they are saving the souls of every man woman and child here from an abomination against the natural order and a demon clad in the flesh of a dead woman.

There is plenty of reason for the Immaculates to oppose us beyond being assholes. What with us literally being super mega satan to them.

Though I do support debating it later, not now.
>>
Rolled 6

>>31322884
I fully expect us to be able to convince the monks in Tianna we're okay, it's the Wyld Hunt that I know is going show that I'm worried about, but that's for later
>>
>>31322720
>>31322759
>>31322766

Sometimes that is necessary. Let's say we had the ability to use an UMI to turn hardened criminals into decent law abiding citizens. Using that UMI would be an expression of power and twisting them to our desire, but would also be a good thing to do, to turn evil people into good people.

If the Immaculates call the Wyld Hunt, a lot of people will die needlessly and not only on our side. We have a chance to change that future to our desire.

With normal persuasion we almost definitely will not be able to pull that off, the most we will be able to manage will be to turn the citizenry into our favor (which would summon the Wyld Hunt.)
>>
Rolled 5

>>31322964
>Or they could show compassion in that although the society may get fucked up by dragging us down, they are saving the souls of every man woman and child here from an abomination against the natural order and a demon clad in the flesh of a dead woman.
That's a good point. Immaculate dogma is that celestial exalts - anathema, like us - are demons who stole the power of the sun/moon, ate the soul of a heroic mortal, and are now living in the body of that now-dead person to fuck up the world. Anything we say to the effect of still being the same person is a lie, and even when it seems like we're doing good, it's only to pursue some wicked plan.

From their perspective, they would be condemning the people of Tianna to mind control or worse by compromising with us.
>>
>>31322996
So you're saying the ends justifies the means?

I disagree.
>>
>>31322996
you underestimate persuasion charms and overestimate the scale of UMI
>>
Rolled 9

>>31322996
I'm sorry, but I disagree. With normal persuasion, we can get ourselves to the point where we're getting +3 dice and +1 success on every roll, and every time we succeed we do 6 points worth of intimacy building/damaging. That's two normal charms away. That's huge.

On the other hand, UMI is literally mind control, and is not only an easy button but us directly doing away with someone's free will in order to reshape them into what we want.

I'll support the former over the latter 100% of the time, and I would sooner kill a person immune to persuasion than mind control them. At least then they could reincarnate instead of being less-than-a-slave.
>>
>>31323011

Yeah. While there are plenty of asshole Immaculates...there are also plenty who are genuinely there to help people as best they can and believe they are giving rest to a tortured being.

It's why I'd rather not a direct confrontation with them. Still, we'll burn that bridge when we come to it, I imagine.
>>
By now you're all three tangled in the bedsheets in various state of undressment - and considering your choice of costume, you didn't have to go a long way to get there. Especially considering both Tia and Amata are both very involved in the idea of touching and teasing you.

You're a bit surprised at Tia being so gentle with you though. You have to wonder if it's Amata or Millian and Regis doing this to her. You had the two young servants stay on a whim, but now you wonder if you should involve them all the way through, let them leave, or say nothing and let them decide if abandon the scene, be an audience, or be active participants on their own.

Meanwhile, you multitask, bringing up with Amata the subject of Mikail's "friend".

"Is he another... well, you know. Another Solar?"

"Honestly? I don't know. Might be, might be not. I think it's a she, though. Valeriana Kava. All I know is that she's a craftswoman with an interest in architecture and urban planning."

"Mikahil knows a lot of people."

"He sure does." She replies. "I think he used to be a member of a trading company, but he also travels a lot. I think he actively tries to get to know as many people as possible. Like he's gathering allies or contacts for some project of his. He has an enormous web of debts and favors in the entire West, probably all of Creation."

"Wouldn't be surprised if someone like him knew other Solars besides you." Is Tia's opinion. "I wonder if his Lunar already found him."

"Did you contact him?"

"I did just before coming here." Amata nods. "Been a while since I used that spell. He said he was in Coral. She'll contact this Valeriana and, if everything goes off without a hitch, be here in one week with her."

"Provided she says yes." You point out.

"If she doesn't, could Irene do it?"

"Geomancy and magical architecture aren't her forte. We have some books she could use as reference, though. She could try, if this Valeriana person declines."

Tia pops her head from under you. You swear sometimes she moves like she doesn't actually have bones. "Aren't they joining us?" She asks, staring at the two servants.

"You're scaring them, dear." Amata pushes her head down into the mattress. "They're too young, besides."

"They're not." She points out.

The two individuals in question mostly look confused by what's going on.

"Too young to participate but not to watch...?" You wonder aloud.

"Now, now." Amata giggles. "If they're going to learn sex ed from you and Tia, they're going to grow up with some serious problems."

"It's to late for that, your highness." Is Regis' slightly smartass reply.

"Well... since you'll probably need a maid or two, Maka, how about I transfer Millian permanently to your service?" Amata winks. "For starters, why don't you go and help finish unloading the ship?"

"Well then." They both stand up and bow impeccably. "By your leave, madams..."

And leave as fast as you can, followed by your playful laughter.

We could make it a Temple Manse, which would really draw the Sun's attention and prevent enemies of him from regaining essence while withing it.
We could also add defensive powers like Integrated Essence Artillery and Traps.

[1 HP recovered]

This has probably been the least restful period of time, no matter how long, that you have ever spent in a bed.

Like you need to get out of bed and go to bed.

You feel your blood pressure almost through the floor, and your muscles creak and ache and tremble even as you merely lift your head and crane your neck to look out of the window flooded with light. Almost blacking out, you notice the midday sun greeting you.

You entered this bed with Tia and Amata just after lunch, so barely after noon. And you're sure you've spent more than a few minutes here.

"...has it been twenty-four hours?" It slowly dawns on you, as you look around.

Tia, Amata, Samiel, Irene and Dancing Smoke are clinging to you from all sides in a disheveled pile of contorted bedsheets and blankets, all snoring peacefully in your same overcrowded bed.

"...How." You just mumble, your confused brain slowly recalling the images one after another.

Tia opens an eye. "Are you complaining?"

Still trying to cope, and frankly feeling a bit surprised by her, you just mutter a startled: "...no."

You mentally count up to three. On the count of three, just as predicted, Tia rolls over and straddles above you, calling "Second round~".

TEMPLE MANSE
Priesthood of the appropriate deity
The manse honors a god to the very roots of its
design, celebrating the deity’s greatness. Every inch
of its architecture is a prayer. Servants or spawn of
enemy powers—for example, Celestial Exalted,
in the case of Abyssal Temples, or raksha in Celestial
Temples—can sense this and are anathema to it.
They cannot naturally recover Essence or Willpower
points while within range. If they foolishly attempt
attunement, they’ll suffer three unsoakable levels of
aggravated damage from internal Essence burns.
Players receive one free bonus success on any roll
for prayers issued to the deity from within the manse’s
consecrated walls. Furthermore, if a priest of the appropriate
god makes a Resources 5 sacrifi ce—or sacrifi ces
something otherwise priceless and powerful—the god
receives a great boon: concentrated ambrosia in the
shape of the sacrifi ce. This is often enough to provoke a
response even from the Celestial Incarnae, who might
provide a moment of wisdom or token blessing

"You are CRAZY." You push her aside and, with a titanic effort, manage to stand up. You notice you're still wearing your tabard, only turned sideways. You turn it right before stumbling out of the bed. "One day, mark my words, Tia, one day, I will find a way to satisfy even you. I don't know how many people I'll have to involve, how many charms I'll have to learn, What artifacts to use or how much essence to spend, but one day I'll find a way to make YOU have enough."

"There can never be enough Maka~" She giggles, her eyes slowly rolling back as she hits the pillow. Before passing out, she manages to grab and give a light squeeze to Amata's upper thigh, gurgling in her half-awake state something like "mrrrhghh makaaa" before finally slipping back into unconsciousness.

To that stimulation, the already-fast-asleep queen responds by an almost unintelligible "mmm.... won't... fit..." before going silent.

Well, looks like you don't have to worry about your first two wives not getting along. Or is that a husband and a wife, or two wives?

You'll have time to figure that out.

Feeling like the winner just by virtue of being the only one awake and walking at the early morning hour of noon, you briefly consider the situation.

...You'll take a bath first, and then have a big... you're not sure what you should call it, even. Lunch? Breakfast? Yesterday's dinner that you missed?

Those.

Millian is waiting outside of your room, dutifully, like a good maid. Sure, she was reading a book, but you can't fault her for that. She probably had no idea when you'd wake up.

"Had fun?" She asks. This might be a bit too sarcastic for a mere servant, but you decide that you don't care right now, and respond with a honest: "Very. You?"

She looks sideways, surprised by the direct answer and riposte. "...You smell like volcanic ash."

You sniff the air. "...I wonder why."

She sighs. "...Bath?"

"Bath." You nod.

"So." You ask her, stepping gently into the tub of smoking hot water Millian prepared for you. "You don't mind working for me from now on?"

"N- not really." Her voice wavers for a moment. "I mean, there's already a surplus of maids and servants here at the castle. Amata isn't a spoiled queen and she takes care of herself, so our workload is really light. Many of us don't have much to do. Makes sense to shift some of us, really." She gives you a suspicious look while selecting what scrub to use. "You ARE still going to pay me, right?"

"As long as I can afford it." You reply, soaking in the water, You feel life slowly returning to you.

"It's not like I'm a millionaire." She jokes back, passing a hand on your back. "...Someone did a work on your back."

"Oh, that was friendly fire." You mention.

"I might take offense to thaaAAAAtt." Your reply is almost interrupted by the not at all gentle touch of her brush on your sides.

"Don't worry, I'll use a softer one for your wounds." You can't help but think she's enjoying this as some sort of subtle vengeance.

"So... Regis, huh." You mention.

"What about him." She's immediately on the defensive.

"He's cute, right?" You wink.

She takes a sigh of relief.

"You're terrible." She sighs, pouring shampoo on your hair.

"It just means you have to grab him first." You suggest.

No reply, as she begins to scrub your head.

"...Be honest with me." You smile.

"He's a half-savage. He doesn't know how to behave in a proper court environment, much less civilized society. He's basically a... a little pirate."

"Do you hate pirates?"

The question catches her by surprise. "N- not really."

You smile smugly.

"...He's not really cute. But... I guess he can be a little bit cool sometimes."

You guess she must be thinking about something he said or did yesterday, and that she'll NEVER tell you. So you relax, soaking in the water again, tossing a glance at the book Millian was reading, left in a corner on a chair:

Water hearstone usually help with manipulating water, poison or help with martial arts. There's also this:

I'm more interested with:
JEWEL OF DAANA’D (MANSE •••)
The bearer of this watery, dark-blue sphere gains
a special rapport with water elementals. When she
summons water elementals, her spell or thaumaturgical
ritual takes her only half as long and costs half as many
motes of Essence (count every mote spent as two). The
bearer also gains three dice for all rolls to influence
water elementals, including binding or banishing them.
These benefits do not apply to gods of water.
Manses aspected to other elements may produce
analogous jewels.

Flow's an elemental, not a god, right?

Accompanied by Millian, you head down to the docks, where you find your three captains in one of those stereotypical seedy pubs clouded with smoke and filled with tough-looking customers.

You see them playing cards around a table. Quint, who is facing the door, notices you entering and waves at you. Seems like they're kicking back and relaxing a bit, probably enjoying their new money judging by the amount of empty glasses on that table.

Oddly enough, Millian doesn't seem particularly intimidated by the atmosphere, although she IS somewhat nervous. Regis isn't here... you guess he must be on the ship.

You draw a lot of attention, by the way, as you enter the establishment with your gossamer tabard on.

Almost everyone either recognizes you, or already heard about you from the crew of your ship, or doesn't recognize you but decides to leave you alone anyway. Only one seaman, clearly half-drunk, staggers up from the counter and puts a hand on your shoulder with familiarity.

"Hey... damn, girl... you fine. D'ya wanna- d'ya wanna drink? It's on me." He mumbles, his other hand groping under your tabard.

No, the point is that your don't have self control. You can have Temperance 1 and still only have the finest things. You just end up screwing an entire royal family, gods, and exalts for a full day instead of filthy pirates.
>>
>>31325571
so if we're training less than 7 people, it's better to give everyone an individual training session?
>>
>>31325557
Temperance is more like self control, iirc.
So it's not that you don't have standards, you just don't say no when someone offers something you want. (Like dat Tia ass.)

Seems that way, which is fine with me. It prevents us from trying to train people past their personal limits as part of a group.
>>
>>31325571
What is the maximum size of the group? Also if we are training only three of them, would it make sense to raise one dot every two days or something?
>>
>>31325594
Yes, one at a time.

>>31325593
There are no virtues in this quest. Your remarks about Maka being "temperance 1" are incorrect.
You can joke about it, but remember that you might confuse people who are new to the thread or the mechanics.

Maka is as temperate or intemperate as you want her to be. Same for her standards.
>>
>>31325592
No, Captain Nemo was one of the guys on the Bloodshark who was ranting about the Storm Mothers.

We decided we like that guy.
>>

I was going to say that he's being a little TOO friendly, but this is Maka we're talking about. And if we're leaning towards her being Compassionate, then she'd probably understand the plight of the lonely sailor.

Seconding a suave social move, with TttH if need be.

>>

Oh, is that him?

>>

He was Alexis, yes.

>>31325627
There is no fixed maximum size, but you need to be able to order the entire group (which must be a coherent, established group) around and train them all together, which means you might need, for large groups, specific spaces, specific structures, to be clearly heard by everyone, to have clear line of sight to everyone, discipline, silence, stuff like uniforms and such.

In general, I'd say that without specific infrastructure you can train up to a Wing of troops (200-300) at the same time.
>>
Rolled 10

>>31325688
No, he's already captain of the sharkman's ship. Now we need to upgrade him to submarine.

Honestly, these three captains are probably going to be our three admirals someday. One in charge of the normal navy, one of the airships, and one of our fleet of submarines. Alexei will have the submarines, of course.
>>

>>31325709

[Talking to the Heart] [Essence: 4/5]

You look the sailor straight in the eyes.

"...You're drunk. Go home."

He frowns. "I'm not drunk."

You gently push him and watch him stumble as he tries to keep his footing.

"...Alright. Mebbe you're right."

A bit saddened by the turn of events, he walks out of the pub, and you join your captains at the table without a problem.

"Hey, boss." Alexei nods.

"Rubeni here was getting his ass smashed at Scientific Startree." Quint points out.

You sit down, and snatch a sip of rum from his glass. "...What's a Scientific Startree?"

"Well, it's like Startree, but every odd pass is counterclockwise, every even pass is clockwise, and every prime-numbered turn the dealer starts with his first and last cards revealed. Plus, there's a fixed go-down point cap at 7000 and a bonus draw every time you go to the resolution phase and any one at the table reveals the same card you have revealed."

"...By the way, Startree is like Starseed, but with two bonus cards, an extra draw after the first round of bets, and a few extra winning hands that are not legal Starseed winning hands normally, like having seven figures and at least one elephant, or if you have no winning hand but the sum of all he points in your hand is exactly fifteen. Quint's been teaching me since yesterday."

"...I don't really know how to play cards. I was wondering, though..."

"So, you might have noticed me training Regis during the trip." You start off.

"Yes." Rubel nods. "What's up with that?" They all seem interested.

"Among my various magical powers, I think I've managed to develop one that allows me to train people at a far faster pace." You explain. "I've been trying it on him first, to see if it works."

They all nod and mumble like that explains something.

"...what?" You wonder.

Rubeni smiles. "We noticed when he was helping us unload the ship to bring some of our haul to the market to sell. He's just a kid, but he had no trouble carrying as much stuff as an adult. We thought something was wrong."

"He arm-wrestled me." Alexei adds, clenching his hand. "He wanted to arm-wrestle me, and he actually won two out of three."

The other two captains look at him and grin.

"What."

"You're not exactly Captain Beef-Arm, Alexei." Quint takes a last sip of rum.

"...Alright, maybe not, but I have ten years on that kid."

"Anyway, if this really works well, it might give us and out crews a huge edge on..." Quint mumbles. "...pretty much anyone else on the sea."

"Do you happen to have a First Age ship in your pocket too, boss?" Rubeni jokes.

"Give me some time, still working on it." You reply.

"...Any side-effects?" Quint asks.

You never thought about that. "...I don't THINK there are any, but..."

Yup, it would have to be the focus of those two days if we do that. Otherwise, we could spend eight hours one day to give two of them a +1 and four hours the next to give the other a +1.
