Welcome to Banished Quest!
You take the role of a young mage, labeled a criminal by his people and cast out into the wider world. In the last thread, you planned out your assassination attempt, bought some books, sent out your companions to do the prepwork, and bought some books.

You reach into your cloak, hand slipping past the event horizon of the strange storage space that lies inside. You find one of the unattuned brooches pressed into your palm and you present it to Demetrios with a dramatic flourish. “This, my friend, is for you.”

He raises an eyebrow, glancing from the brooch to you. He doesn't reach out to snatch it with as much enthusiasm as you'd been expecting. “What is it?” Oh, right. Explaining things is important to most people. “It's a communication brooch. I bought it off of a traveling merchant that goes by Sadik. It allows anyone attuned to the network to communicate with each other as needed from any distance. My companions and I use these and there haven't been any side effects.” Well, that's not entirely true. Some headaches but that's pretty minor.

Demetrios picks it up warily. He goes about looking at it from a few different angles, channeling some vys into it, and poking and prodding it for a few minutes. You're starting to get a little offended by the time he finally pricks his finger on the needle and passes it back to you. Did he really think you'd give him an artifact that would hurt him? You go through the motions of attuning his brooch to yourself and your brooch to him, you're rewarded by the now somewhat familiar sensation of a channel opening in the back of your head, accessible with a thought.

{See? Isn't this just incredibly useful? This way I can take on an advisory role and you can contact me at the drop of a hat if anything goes wrong.}
(1/3)
>>
There is a brief delay before he responds.

{Gods above, this feels odd. Still, I see what you mean. Incredibly useful.}

You scrawl your name across the bottom of the contract in elaborate, flowing Samjan script. The profits will be split fifty-fifty, with him running most of the day to day and consulting with you on big decisions. The two of you part ways amicably and you set off to your suite to await the return of your compatriots.
>New Wealth: 849 silver (34gp, 339sp); Well Off, though the finer things may be too much for you to afford.
>Congratulations! You've invested in Siege! First Edition!

On your way back to the suite you feel a tendril of thought snake its way to the forefront of your mind, Profectus voice coming through the connection clearly.

{Gods... oh gods you've got to help us! The plot's been found out!}

Chyssa practically screams through the connection. {What?! What did you do?! I'll string you up by your entrails and watch the buzzards pick yo-!}

For a moment, the two of them are trying to shout over one another inside your head. It's an extremely confusing, and as you find out, migraine inducing experience. You cut in forcefully with.

{Everyone shut the fuck up!}

Silence. Blessed silence. You'd like to just take a moment to bask in it but Profectus breaks the quiet.

{Shit, I was just joking. No need to take it to such a dark place, Chryssa.}

{Don't joke like that! I'm in the middle of City Hall, you could of actually compromised the mission!}

{Well... I'm sorry. That was my bad. Anyway, the real reason I wanted to contact you is because me and Fulvia-}

{Fulvia and I.} Chryssa corrects him.

{-...Me and Fulvia are on our way back.}

(2/3)
{-...Me and Fulvia are on our way back.}
>>
>>31368556
lmao.. I thought shit was about to go sideways real fast.
>>
With that, the connection is severed. Gods above, Profectus can be a cheeky little bastard sometimes. It probably would've been funnier, and far more dangerous, if he'd tried that in person. You absentmindedly wonder if Chryssa always gets so... murder-y when she gets angry. It wouldn't surprise you, considering she's ripped the heads off of constructs and taken on horrible, twisted abominations with nothing but her bare hands and a knife in the time you've known her.

It isn't long after returning to your suite that Profectus and Fulvia walk through the door, Fulvia carrying a large canvas sack while Profectus' hands are empty. That seems rude, then again Fulvia is probably a lot stronger than Prof.

“Rope, grappling hook-” Prof reaches carefully into the canvas sack, pulling out a thick glass vial of some bubbling green liquid. You don't see any obvious way to open the vial, since it's sealed at both ends. “-Sleeping gas. Smash this on the ground and the liquid inside rapidly evaporates, filling the room.” He pulls out a few other items, a blowgun, and a dozen or so darts. He takes a little more time producing the leather armor, which was stuffed haphazardly inside the sack. He tosses it to you for inspection, and your cursory glance seems to suggest it's suitable enough.

The Metal school of magic host mostly antimagic, reinforcement, and actual manipulation of metal. It would help to guard your mind against outside influences, and thus prevent further deterioration. (Un)fortunately, it wouldn't reverse any damage already done.

>>31368982
On it.
>>
>>31369020
Then maybe we should get on that sometime soon.
>>
>>31369185
That should be a priority for now. after the Lord assassination.
>>
You hang around for a while to chat with Profectus and Fulvia. You think the nerves are starting to set in, at least for your non-artificial companions. Profects keeps running his fingers through his hair, and you find yourself drifting off more often than usual. Eventually the conversation peters out and you excuse yourself, retreating into your bedroom to try and catch some shut eye.

You have some trouble getting to sleep. You keep replaying the memory of that night in the bar, when you first met Lord Spiros. He was a dour, withdrawn man. Said maybe two words the entire night. From what the Archmagos told you, you find it unlikely he has any sort of family or children. He spends his evenings either working or in that bathhouse. You decide it's unlikely anyone will miss him, which provides you some small comfort. He's seemed something of a joyless automaton. It isn't long after that you drift off to sleep.

Once you finally fall asleep, it's heavy. The sleep of the dead. You don't wake up until the following afternoon You drag yourself lazily out of the silk sheets, finding Fulvia in the kitchen with her hands folded politely in her lap. You hear water running in the bathroom. “Chryssa is meditating on the balcony, and Profectus has elected to bathe after my urgings. It is currently four hours and fifty seven minutes past noon. I would recommend leaving at six to stake out City Hall and wait for the Steward's return.”

She pauses for a moment, before tacking on. “There is some soup in the oven being kept warm, if you'd like a meal.” Well, soup sounds wonderful for breakfast. You ladle yourself out a bowl and then take a seat across from Fulvia. As you finally start to actually wake up, you realize something.

(1/2)
>>
>>31369502
Nah, not a priority, just something to add to the list.
>>
The twisting, clawing ache in your gut has vanished. Your headache is gone. You can sense that your reserves of vys have been replenished, and no longer does life seem to bleed out of you as if water through a sieve.
>Vys Pool: (25/25)

After you've finished breakfast you get yourself dressed, stuffing your Grandmaster robes into your cloak and doing the same with your Centurion Armor. Then you pull on your leather armor and throw your cloak over your shoulders dramatically. You've really enjoyed doing that lately, for some reason. Before you gather your companions to leave, you cast one final look around the room to make sure you've collected all of your possessions. After confirming that yes, you got everything, the four of you set out.

On the way to City Hall, which is visible from just about any point in the city due to its position at the top of the mountain, Chryssa briefs you on possible locations your group could hide out and wait for the Steward via communication brooch.

>There is a tavern with a clear view of the entrance to City Hall. The four of you could camp out there and know as soon as he enters City Hall. However, you might attract attention.
>There is an empty house on a street bordering City Hall with a clear view of the Steward's Bedroom. Less conspicuous than the tavern, and you'd know the moment he went to sleep. Just not what he's doing before then.
>There is a servant's entrance on the South-Western edge of City Hall, directly beneath the Steward's Balcony. It would get you the closest to the Steward and it didn't seem terribly well traveled, but there is still the chance of discovery.

You decide that the empty house is your best bet. It doesn't take long to get there, and while City Hall itself is surrounded by a high stone wall (Lined at the top with iron spikes, you note) the streets bordering are largely empty. You see a few people here and there going about their business, but nobody pays you any attention as you make your way to the abandoned house.

It's pretty clear this place hasn't been inhabited in a long while. The windows are broken and boarded up. The steps up to the porch are sagging and rotted. Weeds cover the lawn and the twin fountains out front have collapsed into ruin. The backyard is fenced in, though the gate leading into the backyard has long since fallen off its hinges and animals seem to have dug under the fence in several places. You take a quick glance around before picking your way along a cracked stone walkway into the backyard.

It seems this place isn't completely abandoned. As you turn the corner into the back yard proper, you see that some chairs have been set up around a central fire pit. The fire pit in question probably used to be a fountain, but the statue that should be its center has long since vanished and the fountain bed is full of ash, burnt charcoal, and a few scattered branches. It doesn't look like anyone has been here recently, but it's probably been turned into some kind of meeting spot for neighborhood kids to do... whatever it is teenagers do in abandoned houses.

You creep your way up the back steps and push open the elaborate wrought iron and glass door. Slipping inside, you find yourself in some sort of den. A fire pace sits against the opposite corner. Various chairs, dressers, love seats, and other furniture pepper the room. An old stained, torn up rug sits slightly askew in the middle of the floor. To your left lies a stairwell up to the second floor. To your right, billowing curtains separate this room and the kitchen.
(1/2)
>>
In the murky gloom, you note that your cloak seems to fray at the edges. It becomes... less corporeal, less real. More a wreath of shadow eclipsing your form than any sort of actual garment. Stepping in front of one of the beams of light cast by the setting sun through the boarded up windows causes the cloak to snap sharply back into focus. Curious.

>Explore, make sure this place is deserted.

Exploration would probably be wise. After all, you don't want to be getting ready to run off and assassinate Lord Spiros only to run into a crowd of kids. Then again, you'll probably look like some sort of vicious, incorporeal wraith descending from the floor above to feast upon the souls of bad children. That might actually be hilarious, come to think of it.

You start with the kitchen. It's fairly bare bones. Someone has moved a table into the room and a few bottles of wine lay scattered around the floor. An image of a naked woman has been pinned up to the wall above the kitchen counter. Quite well drawn come to think of it, really the detail is down right impressive. The stern, disapproving, and blood stained scowl of the house's former owner next to it somewhat distracts from the quality of the artwork. Indeed, dried blood just coats the kitchen counter. The optimist in you says they must have been preparing some kind of animal to cook at the fire pit. The cynic in you says this is obviously some kind of cult hide out and you're about to be sacrificed to a foreign god.

You check the cabinets for anything of note, but they're empty except for a hookah pipe and a few bags of pipe weed. An inferior brand, you note. Your master always declared that the only good pipe weed was Genuine Elaudian, harvested on the plantations of Eastern Pidjata. These poor chumps are smoking some local Provincial blend. It's probably actually tea or something. You do them a favor by tossing it out the window, then move on to the next room.

You find yourself in some sort of foyer. One wall is completely dominated by a mural depicting old men in various stages of health, their faces enshrined below in the form of marble bust. You assume this is some sort of shrine to the house's ancestors. This room actually seems in relatively good repair, only a few broken chairs strewn across the floor. A few of the bust are cracked or missing noses. The room is joined to what you assume is the formal dining room, the long polished oak table cracked in half and the chairs missing. You do another quick run through the first floor, making sure you didn't miss any doors, and then set your eyes on the second floor.

You make your way carefully up the steps, though you're pretty sure a stray feather landing on these things would still make them creak as if a giant was stomping his way upstairs. When you reach the second floor, you're faced with only a narrow hallway. There are five doors, two on either side and one at the end, as well as a hatch on the ceiling hanging half-way open and leading up to what you assume is the attic. You have Chryssa check the attic while the rest of you explore the rooms on this floor.

You open one of the doors, finding yourself looking into a bedroom. The sheets are moth eaten, and the entire place smells vaguely moldy and wet. Judging by the various rotting stuffed animals scattered around the room, this was a little girl's room. There is a single window here, and you take the time to peek outside. You find yourself looking directly at Lord Spiros' balcony, and you even have a pretty good view into his bedroom. It's as spartan as you would expect, though you feel an odd sort of irritation just looking at it. It's like its moving rapidly, or flickering. Hurts the eyes to look at. Perhaps the effect of some sort of artifact?
(2/3, I lied)
>>
>>31371041
sounds like a projection to anyone viewing from the outside.
If it is, just as we can see inside anyone on the inside might just be saying "wtf is that peasant doing in that abandoned house looking at me/or us."
You know like our clock except instead of not seeing anything it has a picture.
>>
Someone taps you on the shoulder, and you jump involuntarily. Fortunately it's just Chryssa. “The attic is empty. A few empty wine bottles and an old mattress are the only things up there.” What a terribly unromantic place to put a mattress. “You know, you could of just told me that through the brooches.” She cocks her head to the side contemplatively. “I suppose I could've. I'll keep that in mind.” You nod, and go on to check the other rooms. They're similarly abandoned. There is a master bedroom, another kid's bedroom, and a office of some sort. Lots of papers strewn about, a tipped over desk. Finally a bathroom, the faucets snapped off and tile cracked. Nothing terribly interesting.

Satisfied that the place is abandoned, the four of you hole up in the bedroom which overlooks Lord Spiros' balcony and bedroom. You probably have a few hours to kill...

You stare through the window at Lord Spiros' bedroom, your head in your hands and elbows propped on the window sill. The flickering, you come to realize, is fairly regular. It progresses from one side of the room to the other, starting in the left window and ending in the right. It's very rapid, each flicker lasting about a second and the process itself seemingly cyclical. The more you watch, the more you're convinced that there is some sort of artifact causing this.

Could it be some sort of shield? A barrier preventing anyone but those wearing another artifact from entering? Or perhaps some sort of alarm, that alerts the Steward whenever someone enters his bedroom without his permission? Maybe it's some sort of illusion that prevents you from seeing what's actually inside the room, instead only presenting you with a projected image? You know it's possible, that's basically the reason Fulvia can walk around without being gawked at. After a few hours of staring at it with little progress made, you luck out.

A bird flits its way over to the balcony. You lean forward, watching the creature skip and hope its way towards the window. Could this be it? Could this bird be about to reveal the purpose of the mysterious shimmering? It gets closer and closer to the barrier, but never seems to take that final leap and cross it. It flits over to peck at something on one end, then back over for no apparent reason. Damn it, come on! Just peck the window!
(1/2)
>>
Your wish is granted. The bird finally hops its way right up to the window and gives it a solid peck, only to spontaneously explode into blood stained feather. You're shocked, for a moment you don't even really know how to react. Then Profectus starts laughing, and that gets you laughing. Gods above, what kind of artifact makes people explode when they poke it? All that aside, how on Earth did they move that artifact into his bedroom?

You watch it for a little longer, and decide it probably only effects the windows. Perhaps it's not an artifact, but instead some clever invention? You'd need to get closer to actually find out, and you're certainly not poking those things to see.

Balconies and open air gaps in the building are probably protected. Servants could be pretty uninitiated in the magical arts though so they could come and go as they please. Unless the dude spends weeks training all his servants in using his devices.

Well, you'll just try the balcony door first. Maybe... maybe try opening it with your hand wrapped in your cloak. Then again, that might just end with the knob inside cloak. Actually, that raises another idea. Maybe you could have Ricky open the door for you? That would remove the issue entirely. On the other hand, he might just stare at the handle like he stared at you, or maybe he'd try to eat it. You have no real way of knowing.

You stand up and stretch. This waiting is really starting to get to you. Too much time alone with your thoughts. Chryssa, Fulvia, and Profectus are playing cards on the bed. Fulvia is handling beating both of them, you note. There's a stack of cards in front of her at least twice as high as either Chryssa's or Profectus'. “What are you playing?” You ask curiously, to which Chryssa responds. “Old Rhynian game. Called Capture. Certain combinations of cards are worth a certain amount of points. At the start of each hand, everyone draws seven cards from the deck. Then you can put cards you don't want at the bottom of the deck and draw new ones if you'd like. Then everyone plays their hand.”

Profectus picks it up after that. “Person with the highest score wins the hand, captures everyone else's cards and stacks them up in front of them. Person with the biggest stack of captured cards wins once the deck has been emptied.” He looks up from his hand. “Normally, betting would be involved. Nobody really has anything to bet with though.”

You're about to settle in to watch the game play out, but there's a noise from downstairs. It sounded like a door slamming shut, probably the back door by your guess. You also hear two voices muttering to one another from the ground floor. Sounds like two girls, but you're not certain.

You look at your companions. Your companions look at you. You're the first one to break the silence. “I'm gonna mess with them.” Profectus grins. Chryssa sighs. Fulvia ask innocently. “Would you like any help?” To which you respond by pulling your cloak tighter around yourself and stepping away from the light shining through the windows from the street lamps below. The cloak curls itself around your body, obscuring your face and making it look like, for all intents and purposes, you're gliding across the floor.

“I think I got this. Wait for me here.” You instruct them, slipping out of the room noiselessly. As you proceed down the steps, somehow managing not to raise enough racket to wake the neighborhood (Perhaps your cloak muffles sound as well, but only in darkness? You can only hope.), the conversation starts to filter through more clearly. It's definitely two girls, probably quite young, and as far as you can tell they're having a heated discussion about boys.

“Are you sure we should be in here, Agatha? Those guys didn't seem very... honorable. What if they take advantage of us?” The other, Agatha you presume, responds. “If only we'd be so lucky! Those four live in one of the wealthiest neighborhoods in the city. We'd be set for life if one of them took interest in us!” Alright, you're not going to be able to stomach listening to this drivel for very long. Best to get it over with.

You have the temperature in the room drop a couple of degrees, enough that their breath starts fogging in the air. “Did it just get colder?” One ask. The other responds. “It's probably just a breeze blowing through, stop trying to make up excuses to run away.”
(1/2)
>>
Next, some simple fire magic causes a few long abandoned candles in the room to spark to life all of a sudden, and just a touch of water magic has ethereal figures made of mist drifting past the windows. This almost seems enough to make the timid girl cut and run right there. Agatha on the other hand stands firm. “Yianni, is that you? Spyros? Stop messing with us, come on!”

You choose that as your moment, slipping from the stairwell noiselessly. You're pleased to see they'd been facing the kitchen, and don't immediately notice you. You take the opportunity to loom ominously over them, and considering the fact you're six foot eight and these girls couldn't be much taller than four and a half feet you can loom quite ominously. Agatha whips around almost immediately, and instead of starring in shock and horror like you'd hope she just straight bolts. Abandons her friend without a second thought, doesn't even warn the poor girl. Seriously, what a bitch.

“Agath-wait! Where are you-” The words die in her throat as she sees you, her mouth flaps about for a moment before hanging open, face contorting in terror. For a moment, you think she's going to scream. All that comes out is a pained rasping sound. Seems she's lost her voice. You reach into your cloak and grab hold of your Shockwave Sword, pulling it out in one drawn out motion. Unfortunately, she seems entirely paralyzed. Seriously, come on. Run away now.

Oh gods, she's crying. She's just standing there bawling her eyes out. You hadn't anticipated this possibility. What are you supposed to do? You can't go through with actually killing her! Clearly this girl has no fight or flight response. If you'd actually been some kind of soul-stealing monster, this would be almost comically easy.

Okay, this is an easy recovery. You just need to fade back into the shadows. She's even paralyzed by fear and crying her eyes out! You can do this no problem! You let one of your knees buckle, turning it into a roll that lands you behind an old, moth eaten couch. She gasps, as to her it seems as though you merely vanished. Carefully, you tuck the sword away inside your cloak and creep around the couch to the other side of the room, she's too busy staring horrified at the stairs to notice.

Still not running away though... seriously, there's something wrong with this girl. Does she want to die? You pull yourself up ominously in front of the kitchen, then rasp out just loud enough for it to carry through the room. Your words almost seem to echo unnaturally in the rather wide open den space. “I ask you to recall, fair weather friends are no friends at all.” Damn, that was a pretty good little rhyme. You're proud of that. It also seems to get her moving again, and she bolts for the door. Seems that when she actually uses her legs she can haul some ass.

You wait for a few moments to make sure they're both gone, and after you're greeted by nothing but silence you climb the stairs back up to the kid's bedroom that overlooks the Steward's Bedroom. Chryssa comments. “You know, that was almost sweet. Included a little moral lesson along with your terrorizing.” Profectus shrugs his shoulders. “Should've said something funnier. Like... I don't know. Asked for some change and claim you really just needed to buy boat passage.” Fulvia declines comment, instead scooping up Chryssa's and Profectus' cards.

You resume your post at the window, waiting for some sign of the Steward. The night wears on, and on, and on with no sign of him. That is, until you do. At roughly two hours past midnight, you start to see some activity in Lord Spiros' bedroom.
>(1/2)
>>
The door burst open and you see Lord Spiros fall backwards into the room, a woman on top of him. Oh, great. He decided to bring the hooker back with him. This is just peachy. Chryssa, Profectus, and Fulvia crowd in around you to see what's going on, Chryssa growing red and quickly looking away. Profectus grinning lecherously. Fulvia looking absolutely confused.

He's distracted for now. His guards are also probably relegated to outside his office, unless he's some sort of exhibitionist. It might be a good time to strike, though you may end up needing to kill both of them to ensure no alarms are raised.

One of us is thinking lewd thoughts.
>>
>>31375120
Not right now. I just don't want us to get busted by Magical CSI. Though if Soma can write that type of stuff well, I'm sure a scene like that would be erotic.
>>
“Alright, this is my chance. I'm gonna hit him now while he's distracted.” Chryssa, who is adamantly staring at the wall, ask. “What about the girl?” You grin, reaching into your cloak and pulling out the sealed vial of sleeping gas. “I'll smash this in the room first, wait until both of them pass out, then kill Spiros ans frame the girl for doing it.” Profectus drags himself away from the show and ask. “How? Just leave the murder weapon in her hands? She'll be asleep. It wouldn't make any sense for her to kill Spiros and then pass out for now obvious reason.”

You roll your shoulders and crack your neck. “Ideally, the body won't be discovered until after the sleep gas wears off. She'll scream, the guards will come investigate, find her holding a bloody knife and standing over his body.” He admits, that makes sense. You hear Fulvia say quietly, mostly to her self you think. “What on Earth is she-oh. Ooooh. Ouch. Why would someone enjoy that? What are the spikes for?”

Alright, you don't even want to know what is going on inside that bedroom right now. You make your way down the stairs and out the back door, picking your way through the back yard. You'd be surprised if anyone could spot you with this cloak on, even staring right at you. You take a quick peek up and down the street before jogging across, the light cast by streetlamps temporarily forcing your cloak back to normalcy. Fortunately it shifts back into hazy, ethereal shadow before you actually reach the wall that surrounds City Hall.

(1/2)
>>
The wall, while certainly tall and intimidating, was still only designed to keep humans out. It's only about ten feet tall, you can grasp the ledge with a good hop. It takes some effort but you pull yourself up, picking your way carefully over the spikes and dropping down into the courtyard below. The grounds in this area of the compound are fairly deserted, though immaculately kept. Rows of rose bushes line the walkways, though they're not currently in bloom. Elaborately detailed lengths of silk cloth hang above them, providing shade during the day. You do see a few guards patrolling here and there, but it seems you lucked out. None of them are near you.

You make your way up to the stone wall below the balcony and, with only a little Earth magic, craft yourself some footholds. It's about a twenty, maybe thirty foot climb but hopefully having a clear, simple path up will make that a bit easier than it would otherwise be.

You scale the wall quickly, getting your foot on the ledge of the balcony and hauling yourself over the railing just as a guard is sweeping by below. He glances up at the balcony, though crouched in the shadow beneath Lord Spiros' window you're practically invisible. After a moment he moves on, wandering off to patrol some other portion of City Hall.

After you're sure you're in the clear, you risk a peek through the window inside. You immediately regret that decision. You did not need to see Lord Spiros in a dress at all. So much flabby old man flesh exposed. Gods above, you can only pray for early onset senility to forget that horrible image. Still, he's quite preoccupied with... playing the woman in that whole... eugh. He's distracted. You creep over to the balcony door and start inspecting the lock.

This is a problem. Instead of the normal knob with a key hole configuration, he's got some sort of artifact lock on the door. It reminds you in many ways of the lock on the door to the Academy Vault. A small, round indentation in the center where one would insert the key.

>Crap, this is a no go. The Servant's Entrance is just below here, try slipping in through there.

You run your finger over the lock, channeling a minute amount of vys into the lock as you do so. You feel it pool into the center, twisting itself together into one bright, shining pool of energy. Slowly it bleeds away, but this is actually perfect. If you channel enough, hopefully the lock will be overloaded and the vys will discharge. That would break the lock without just blowing the door open, though you'll need to act quickly once the lock is broken, since it will probably alert the occupants.

You start channeling vys into the lock, more and more and more. The bright point grows, expanding to fill the central circle before it starts becoming brighter instead. Once the light given off actually gets bright enough to start solidifying the portions of your cloak it touches, you get your face out of the way and clutch the vial of sleep gas in your hand. This might be a tad more explosive than you anticipated, and the last place you want your face is right next to the lock when it goes off.

There is a loud pop as the vys discharges, and the door shudders violently before swinging open. It opens towards the balcony, oddly enough. Not a very good design, all things considered. You jerk the door open and wind back, hurling the vial of sleeping gas into the room just as a very surprised Lord Spiros looks over his shoulder...

The vial tinks harmlessly off of Lord Spiros' forehead. “Oh for the love of- are you kidding me? G-” Shit, shit, shit! He's going to call for the guards! You channel some vys, probably a little more vys than necessary, and the vial explodes violently. You shut the door as gas starts to fill the room, roiling and expanding more aggressively than you would've imagined. It seeps under the door, through the gaps in the frame, under the window sills. You start to feel dizzy just as the light spilling out of the windows is tinted green and you hear two figures hit the floor with heavy thuds.

{Guards on the way, seems they heard the lock blow.} You hear Profectus say through the network. {Spiros and his lady friend are out like a light though. If you can get inside and manage to avoid passing out they might just assume it was the old pervert being weird.}

You hear Chryssa next. {Going inside would be crazy, you'd pass out just like those two. Find a place to hide, jump off the balcony if you have to.}

You take a deep breath and plug your nose, when an idea occurs to you. You condense the water into the air into a rough 'globe' around your head. It's slightly difficult to maintain, but you manage it well enough. With your makeshift helmet on, you slip into the room and are pleased to see that the gas can't penetrate your water bubble. Then again, it also means the air inside the bubble is rapidly becoming unbreathable.
>Vys Pool: (21/25)

You take a quick glance around the room, looking for some kind of exit. The gas has billowed out into the Steward's actual office, but it hasn't spread through the office yet. Lord Spiros is passed out half-off the bed, dress hiked up to his chest. A horrible image that will haunt you for the rest of your days, you're sure. You see his necklace, supposedly the necklace that will open the treasury vault, sitting on the bedside table next to him. You don't see any artifacts besides that though. The girl is similarly incapacitated, having knocked her head against the bed post on her way towards the floor. It's left a cut, and a rather nasty bruise is already forming.

No, and I'll leave it open for a little longer so people can discuss. Just killing the lord now implies you'll make your escape without doing any looting.

i say we Suri Knife to kill Lord Spiros, place the knife in the Hooker's hand
then bolt into the office. get treasures. stuff into our cloak by the shit ton. And gtfo
hide in plain sight if we have to find a dark corner and slowly leave the room.

Hopefully they just assume was planning on escaping and her gas got her too. or some shit.

You close on Lord Spiros quickly, pulling your Suri Knife out of your cloak. You roll him onto his back then stab the blade firmly upwards into his abdomen, the blade imbedding itself just below his sternum. Lord Spiros shudders, taking a few rattling breaths before falling silent. It was a quick, painless, and over all very humane death. Some part of you wants to snap off some poignant phrase, or reflect on what you just did. That part of you is fortunately drowned out by panic. You're already feeling a little short of breath, you need to hurry this up.

You leave Lord Spiros where he lies, finding the girl and pushing the knife into her hand. You close her fingers around it, and make sure it's held in such a way that it would make sense for her to stab upwards into his abdomen. You don't really have time to stress over every detail. Hopefully it's enough to convince the guards. With that taken care of, you turn your sights towards the door.

{Guard situation. Is it clear?} You ask desperately over the network.

{No, a few wandered off but four or five guys are still staring at the balcony. Going out that way will be tough.} Profectus responds.

>Fuck it, no time. Make a run for the balcony and hope your cloak is enough that they don't spot you.
>Shit, shit, shit! Try the door to the Steward's Office. There might be guards stationed out front, but no more than two.

{I need a distraction.}

There is a delay, a delay you really don't appreciate. You're running out of air in here, damn it!

{Alright, we'll give you a distraction. Just... just wait a little bit.}

You've got a really bad feeling about this all of a sudden. You look outside the window, into the house you'd been hiding out in for the hours leading up to the assassination. You see an orange glow, and figures moving around inside. Gods... you really hope they didn't just set the house on fire. That is really just not at all what you meant by a distraction. You mea-

A blast of fire tears through the roof of the abandoned house, an inferno seeming to engulf it just moments afterward. You can faintly hear Profectus screaming all the way inside the Late Lord Spiros' bedroom. The guards are rushing towards the wall, trying to get a look at just what on Earth just happened. They've forgotten about the balcony, for now at least.

Damn it, Profectus... doesn't he know how quickly a fire can spread? You're really going to be upset with him if you find out later that innocents died in the flames. Still, this is your chance and you're going to take it. You push the door open and bolt, vaulting over the balcony railing and scrabbling down the side of the building while the guards are distracted. If you can just get to another section of the wall, you can hope the fence and get out of here...

We've had it since the first thread. It was one of the items we left Pidjata with.
>>
>>31377754
The archmagos presented it to us personally in front of the city council. It even has a unique little sigil.

Why?
>>
You slip behind a row of rose bushes just as some of the guards seem to gather their wits about them and start shouting orders to the rest. They're calling for buckets, cups, anything and everything that carries water. In the confusion and panic you manage to work your way behind an outbuilding, and from there it's a simple task to hoist yourself over the wall and into the street. It won't be long before this area is swarmed with guards, and you can already see lights coming on in neighboring houses as people come to see what the fuss is about.

You slip soundlessly through the cobblestone streets, cutting through alleyways and side streets until you've gotten some distance between yourself and City Hall. At one point you have to press yourself against a wall and wait for a group of guards to pass by, hauling along some kind of cart with a long hose rolled up onto the side. You find it odd that they don't simply call a Water Vatis, but the Archmagos did say the Academy was an independent institution. Perhaps they're not obligated to assist in putting out a fire that doesn't endanger them?

{I got away clean. Where are you three?}

Chryssa responds promptly. {Profectus pushed himself too hard, he's unconscious. Fulvia and I are carrying him back to where we tied up the guar.}

You set off at a brisk pace towards the little tavern you spotted near City Hall. Your guar are tied up in front of a general store near-by. Besides a few minor inconveniences everything is going according to plan. You just hope you can get out of the city before they start sealing the gates and sealing the city off. After that, it's smooth sailing all the way to... wherever it is you decide to go next. It's a wide open world, and in an odd way you'll be glad to be on the move again. Without pressing obligations, schedules to keep, or a plan to follow.

>Aaand I'll call it here.
Sticking around for Q&A.

I'll ease your conscious by saying the Suri Knife, while not really common this far north, is damn near ubiquitous in your homeland. Anyone who goes to Pidjata gets a Suri Knife as a souvenir. It's just something you do.
