It is the year 22XX and Humanity has reached the stars. Alas, even though they have attained the lofty goal of interstellar travel, mankind has yet to conquer it’s baser instincts.

Humanity is ruled by ultra-Corporations. Some own continents. Some own multiple worlds. But no matter who you are, everyone is a citizen-employee somewhere. The qualms that beset corporations of the past, copyright infringement, tech theft, still exist. If anything, they are amplified by the scale of the players.

Without government to turn to for legal recourse and separated by millions and billions of miles, corporations have turned to less savory solutions to resolve disputes. You are one of those solutions.

You are an elite mercenary, also known as a High Impact Public Representative, of the StrikeOut Company, a group of mercenaries who accept contracts and missions from the highest bidder. You are launched out of a spaceship in a drop pod filled with bright orange and highly toxic gel. You crash land into the target’s facilities, make a mess, do your job, and then get the hell out.

You are a Fall Guy. You are a Deniable Asset.

Walking towards the control box where the rest of your squad is located you comm in with Niels once more. “Hey man. I was wondering. How goes the hacking?”

“Pretty good,” says Niels distractedly, “I’m almost onto their net. Nearly busted the encryption wide open. Shouldn’t be but another five, ten minutes.”

“Awesome.”

You take a seat on crate of bullets, and wait for Niels to either tell you he’s done, or Elda to shout that there’s been another contact.

After a few minutes of non-contact, you start getting bored and begin to speculate about the mission. To be honest, things seem a little… off. I mean, the MAHWM isn’t a delicate instrument of war. It’s presence in the server room is kind of like using a claw hammer to perform open heart surgery. Indelicate, inaccurate, and far too forceful. Your mind races. Trains of thought blast out of the station before the lazy asshole conductors send them flying off of the rails and into your mental landscape. Eventually, you grow restless, and open up the squad comm channel.

>Speculate on the mission with your fellow Squaddies

>>Speculate on the mission with your fellow Squaddies
Why would they put a MAHWM into a room full of delicate computer equipment?

Could the server room we saw just be a trap for invaders?
>>
>>31390805
yeah it don't quite make sense, don't know if its full trap mode, but the MAHWM could be doing its best fluffy impression
>>
“So I’ve been thinking,” you announce over the channel, “Is anyone else weirded out by the presence of a MAHWM in the server room?”

Markos responds first. “Eh? I mean, I suppose it’s a bit odd?”

Elda breaks character and actually back you for once. “I have had the same thoughts Ivan. These are delicate computer systems, no? Why would they have a railgun and grenade launcher armed mecha stomping around among all of those computers?”

“Could the server room be a trap? A dummy room to trick invaders?”

“It’s possible,” responds Niels to your speculation, “It’s very possible in fact. I mean those servers are probably in protective housing, but that wouldn’t do anything against the sort of firepower the MAHWM is bringing to the field.”

“Exactly,” you cry, “Exactly my point. There’s no way that what we think is the server room is actually the real server room. Reyumbi would never let a MAWHM stomp around in it with weapons hot. Not in a million years.”

“Well that’s all real fucking clever,” replies Markos, “but that doesn’t resolve the issue of where the real server room is. Do any of you guys have any ideas where the proper one would be then?”

>Any idea where the real server room would be?
>No. But perhaps Niels can figure it out once he’s hacked the security net.

>>31391167
Well what size would a hidden server room be? I mean they'd want it close enough that the mom has overwatch and clear lanes of fire to it. So I'm thinking it'd be across from the fake server room, maybe below ground?

I mean then it'd be better protected from targetted drops right?
>>
>>31391167
>Write in
>Let's just destroy everything
>>
“No,” you state dully, “But I bet Niels can figure it out once he’s hacked into the security net. And failing that, we can always just… extract the information out of the pilot of the MAHWM or something.”

“Are you suggesting we,” Niels lowers his voice, horrified at the prospect, “torture the pilot?!”

“What? No,” you reply, put off by the idea yourself “No, I was thinking more along the lines of unspecified threats until he talked.”

Markos snorts. “Yeah man. That’ll be real effective.”

“You wanna torture somebody,” you snap back.

“No. I’m just saying. We can’t just ask the pilot questions and expect him to answer,” replies Markos defensively.

“Quiet, all of you,” snaps Elda, “I would like some more help in keeping overwatch, if you do not mind.”

The three of you fall silent as you and Markos get back to observing the area for hostiles while Niels works on breaking the encryption. After a few more minutes Niels announces over the comm channel that he’s broken the security net’s encryption. “So we have full access now,” you ask.

Niels nods, a motion you are not able to see, but he does it anyway, “Yeah. Yeah. I’ve actually got pretty high level privileges. Whoever owned this comm suite must have been a reasonable level commanding officer. I’ve got access to a lot of data right now.”

>What should Niels do with his new found powers?

That's the thing, though. If it's guarding a dummy room, we don't need to fight it at all.
>>
>>31392069
Because I would rather it not be a threat than try and fail to be sneaky
>>
>>31392154
its still as much of a threat no matter whether what its guarding is fake or not, that thing could level this place looking for us, and if we go after the real room, you can bet it would know about it, unless we neutralize it
>>
>>31392195
But would they risk sending it to the real room?

I guess if we can remotely disable it that's great, but I don't think we should bother actually fighting it if we don't need to. It's powerful, and if it's in a dummy room then it doesn't need to worry about bringing its full firepower to bear on us.

I don't want anyone to die, anon.
>>
>>31392259

neither do I anon, which is why disabling it via Niels HAX and cutting its power from a distance would greatly help

“Niels I have about a million questions, and I don’t know if you have time to answer them all.”

“They’re all in the server room.”

“What?”

Niels’ voice sounds slightly frightened as he speaks over the comm channel. “They’re all in the server room. Ivan, they’re calling it the honeypot.”

You chortle over the comm link. “Well then. We just don’t go in there, simple as that. Where’s the real server farm then?”

“Under it.”

“What do you mean under it, “ asks Markos for you.

“As in the access to the real server farm is directly underneath the MAHWM,” replies Niels, the fear in his voice evident.

“Holy fuck,” you groan, “Are you serious? That’s so fucking cliched. I can’t even believe it. It sounds like something some hack writer working on a twenty minute deadline would come up with.”

Elda shrugs. “Think about it. Server maintenance would still enter the same room to work on the servers, which would maintain the illusion. And even if some one, like us for instance, did figure out where the real server room was, we’d still have to fight our way through their trap.”
Markos sighs. “Shit. So all we really did was figure out that there was even more shit we had to do before we could bug out of this fucking place. And I was all for activating the NEMP and tossing it in there and running for it.”

“That’s hardly brave,” you scoff. “Where’s your sense of drama you two?”

“I left it behind to make room for common sense cretino,” mutters Elda. “Someone could die here, you know?”

“Maybe,” you grunt, shrugging. “Niels, what’s the situation with hostiles? How many are in the room? What can you do about the MAHWM?”
>>
Told you all we should have originally been a hacker. :D
>>
“Well, according to this more detailed map, the server room is a square, and the “server stacks” are in arranged in fairly tight rows. There is a large open area in the center of the room where the MAHWM in plugged in, and that’s where the entrance to the real server room is. Then there are four wide open “corridors” leading up to the center area. Those’re probably meant as fire lanes for the MAHWM.”

“Okay okay,” you mutter, mind racing, “And hostile count?”

“Four squads of four, one for each server quadrant,” relays Niels despondently. “And according to the security net, they’re armed to the teeth with close range weaponry. Shotguns and melee weapons.”

“And the MAHWM?”

“It does have that dummy system you mentioned,” Niels answers, for once not sounding totally miserable, “the system can’t fire weapons, but it controls motion, sensors, and can at least power on and off weapons. I think it’s meant so that people can do maintenance on the MAHWM-”

“Without having to pay pilots for operation time,” you complete, “Trust me, those are not small expenses, especially the amount of time the pilot spends just wiggling the MAHWM’s arms around just to make sure the servos and everything are working. Surprisingly big money sink.”

“Yeah well,” replies Niels, “I think I can use my access to the dummy system to disrupt the MAHWM’s operation for short periods of time. Nothing longer than a few minutes at a time though.”

>So, what’s the plan?
>I’m leaving this one without prompts, because there’s a lot of options you can take. This is a general discussion, and I will be around to answer questions. So please feel free to ask me anything.

There is only one MAHWM, and that's currently out and about. The armory and mech bays aren't being guarded at the moment, but are protected behind some very thick blast doors. Ivan would have to pass a major tech check to open them, or Niels would have to pass a slightly less hard Hacking check.

“Alright. Well that’s not an encouraging picture you’ve painted for us Niels,” you grunt, shifting in place.

“So what do we do,” asks Niels.

“We get some force equalizers,” you look up at the platform where the rest of your squad is located, and wave them down. “Time to see how tightly Reyumbi locks their toy boxes.”

The squad leaves the loading bay and makes their way towards the armory indicated on the security force’s tactical map. After a few minutes of uneventful walking, you find yourselves standing in front of some very impressive blast doors. You walk up to them and begin to look around for an access panel. Most of these large blast doors have one. In case the security system has been compromised and the secfor have been locked out of their own armory. After a couple of minutes, you find the panel and yank it off, revealing a large collection of wires, switches, and other technological paraphernalia. You begin to fumble around in the system. Damn thing is pretty different from the blast doors back with NepCol that you practiced with. Just when you think you’ve made a breakthrough and turned off the safety triggers, the doors slide open. You glance over to where Niels is standing. He shrugs at you, slightly apologetic.

Rolling your eyes, you lead the squad into the armory. There really isn’t much in the way of weaponry capable of taking down a MAHWM in here. Most the heavy weaponry, like missile launchers, must be off site. Probably a safety concern, what with the large office spaces around this area full of civilians. You begin to dig through the armory some more, trying to find something, anything, that can be of use against a MAHWM. Eventually you come across something vaguely humanoid draped in a khaki green tarp. You pull it away to reveal a BART, bearing a grenade launcher and little else.

Have our squadmates spread our in cover where they can watch over each other, but can't all be engaged at the same time, and find some really solid cover for us all. Then have Us or Markos attract their attention, most likely with a grenade or two to start things off, and once we have the MAHWM's attention, have Niels disrupt it with the dummy pilot hack, that gives us a window to ruin the secforces day in our BART suit, while Niels messes with their comms and have Elda add her fire to the mix, while Markos attempts to but the umbilical for the giant stompy robutt. Once the MAHWM is no longer disrupted we need to get us all into cover where it can't hit us while we trade fire with their footsoldiers.

Hopefully we can keep this up and play it smart long enough to wear them down and get rid of the footsoldiers so we can freely deal with the MAHWM, and hopefully Niels keeping it disrupted throughout the fight will greatly aid us.

The idea that one can pilot a BART remotely comes from the second thread of DAQ, where Ivan attempted to subvert a BART's motion control so he could use it/steal it.

This BART isn't quite as fancy as the one from back then, and doesn't have remote piloting options.

You grunt and clamber into the open BART exoskeleton. Elda raises an eyebrow over the comm channel. “You know how to operate that thing?”

You nod as the armored exosuit closes around you, “Yeah, at least better than you guys probably do. We trained with these sorts of things back with NepCol.”

“Alright then,” says Markos. “What are we waiting for?”

“Nothing,” you reply, leading the squad out of the armory and back towards the fake server room. As you walk, Niel prepares a series of disruptive commands to bring the MAHWM offline, giving your squad the opening needed to get to cover. Markos speaks up over the squad channel. “This just occurred to me. The MAHWM easily has enough munitions to blow any cover to shit, right?”

The rest of the squad responds with a chorus of affirmations. “Alright. So I figure the MAHWM pilot won’t fire on us if we’re close to friendlies, but if everyone belonging to Reyumbi is dead in our immediate area…”

“The MAHWM can open fire freely,” finishes Elda coldly. “So can’t just kill everyone either. Not until we’ve brought the MAHWM offline.”

“Yeah,” confirms Markos, nodding. “Otherwise our collective ass is grass.”

You groan and would rub your head were you not in a powered exoskeleton. “Alright. This just gets better and better. Niels, you need to let us know if we’re about to kill the last hostile in our quadrant, alright?”

Niels nods. “Sure. No problem.”

“Alright then,” you say, as you stop in front of the door to the server room. “Niels?”

“Counting down now. Ten… nine… eight…”

You bring the BART to combat power draw. Markos checks his tactical rig for grenades.

“Seven… Six… Five…”

Elda checks her Windcutter’s ammo count once more. You deactivate safety protocols on the BART’s grenade launcher.

“Four... Three…”

The squad forms up behind you, using your bulk as cover.

“Two…”

You swallow.

“One…”

Beat.

“MAHWM IS OFFLINE. GOGOGO!”

You raise the BART’s grenade launcher up and fire. The weapon makes a dull thumping sound as the projectile exits the barrel of the launcher. The grenade makes a much sharper exploding sound as it punches through the doors and detonates on the floor. You immediately charge into the room.

The world seems to be moving in slow motion. The doors skid across the floor of the server room, each bounce against the floor accentuated and exaggerated and elongated. You can hear, rather than feel, the tinks of some assault rifle round bouncing futilely against your armored torso.

You react on animal instinct. Not a good thing. You bring the Grenade launcher up too high and fire completely over anyone and anything, striking a wall on the far end of the room. You curse and fire the weapon twice more, aiming towards the quadrant of server stacks on the far left side of the room. As you do so, Markos tosses a smoke grenade down, obscuring you all in a cloud of smoke and chaff. The squad barrels over to the server stack quadrant to your right, taking cover amidst the towering and empty housings. You stand out of the quadrant, too large to fit in easily. You can hear a loud bang as Markos leaves a massive crater in the torso of one of the Reyumbi security.

Cursing you attempt to upload that one fake hacking executable to the security net, in an attempt to disrupt the HUDs of the opposing Reyumbi security officers. An anti-viral program detects and quarantines it immediately. Grumbling something about MacEfae, you waves Markos over to you and point at the MAHWM. Markos nods, and the two of you begin to make your way to the one of the open hallways in between the four quadrants of servers.

Markos tosses out another smoke grenade for cover and the two of you aim in roughly the direction of the MAHWM. You figure that with something that big, you can afford a little inaccuracy. You open fire alongside Markos and you can hear a distant thunder of explosions. A few seconds later, Niels shouts over the comm channel, “Guys! The pilot’s regained control of the MAHWM! I won’t be able to do anything for a little while.”

>What do?

“Cover!” you snap over the comm channel to Markos. The man responds by running fro the nearest server stack, and you follow. As Markos disappears into one of the many rows of servers, you hang back in between the wall and the server quadrant. You open up a comm link with Niels. “Niels! How many have your taken down?”

Niels sounds distracted and you can hear a large number of pops over the background of his comm. “Ivan we’re pinned down here! The secfors have us stuck behind a server stack. I think they want to flank.”

Elda’s face appears next to Niels, “They absolutely want to flank us. We are worse than useless in close quarters.”

“Shit,” you snarl. Some more distant pops over the comm link. “Shit shit shit.”

A loud bang. Your heart leaps into your mouth. “Niels was-”

“That should keep them scared for a little while,” snarls Elda.

Niels takes the opening to quickly relay the situation to you. Of the sixteen secfors originally in the area, five are dead. The remainder have reconvened or are in the process of reconvening to form two larger super squads to bring you guys down. Something that just got a lot easier since you’re now all divided. As for the MAHWM, it’s legs servos were damaged, and the right one is essentially crippled at this point. Niels relays all of this in one breath, speaking with panicked speed.

“Alright Markos. You and me. We team up and walk around the MAHWM. We meet up in the north fire lane, where you provide cover with smoke grenades. We flank and destroy the oncoming squad before booking it to support Elda and Niels. Sound like a plan?”

“Like I fucking got one? Let’s go!”

You stomp around and storm towards the north fire lane, while Markos makes his way to the same location, ducking from cover to cover in the process. The two of you need to hit the convening secfors before they have a chance to get organized and put you both down. You know for a fact that enough melee strikes can bring down a BART. Markos tosses out another smoke grenade into the northern fire lane, providing a wide area of cover. Stepping into the smoke and chaff you stop and raise your grenade launcher. A few quick shots into the area where the secfors are convening in an attempt to push them out into the open. As they begin heading into the northern fire lane, you switch over to Flechette canisters. You’ve now got the biggest fucking shotgun on the planet.

The first secfor stumbles out into the open. You wait, knowing he can’t see you. A few more follow him and they make their way across the fire lane, hurrying towards the quadrant where Markos is lurking, his own much smaller shotgun in hand. You wait until the last few are in the open before opening fire. The canister of flechettes slice through the air, and the ceramic, and the kevlar, and the flesh, and the bone, and the organs, like a plasma knife through butter. The northern firelane explodes into a mist of red. You let out a surprised laugh. You can’t believe how potent this thing is.

You charge forward and complete the flank. The enemy secfors are now trapped between a rock and an Ivan place. Shit is about to get messy.

The sequential reports of Markos’ shotgun and your own shotcannon fill the server room as you blast the security forces to giblets. Even through the armored exoskeleton of the BART, you can feel the force of the grenade launcher bucking against your arm. A few seconds later and the enemy forces are down to half strength. You wave Markos over, telling him to leave whichever straggler secfor is hiding in the server stacks.

“C’mon, Niels and Elda need our fire support.”

The two of you run past the MAHWM, which is still in the process of turning around on it’s gimped leg to face your two. The railgun round completely miss both of you.

You can hear the dull cracks of gunfire as the enemy forces move in on Niels and Elda. They’ve moved to the center of the server quadrant. Seems like the enemy is coming in from three angles, trying to push the two mercs out into the fire lane the MAHWM is facing. They either stay in place and die, or they run and die.

Or the cavalry comes.

right, moar mspaint tactics coming up:

- Red: Ivan needs to position ready to fire into the group once we spring our maneuver which will bring all 3 pincers into 1 clump
- Purple: Markos, needs to flank south and attack the west and south pincer, giving Niels and Elda breathing room and a chance to break out
- Blue: once Markos engages, Niels and Elda make a break for the south-west, with Markos covering them with shotgun fire and grenades if he's got some.

Once Markos engages and Niels and Elda move south-west, Ivan can open up on the secfor groups, which just went from 3 pincers, to 1 clump, Niels and Elda can hunker down while Ivan lays down the hurt and Markos keeps up cover fire and cleans up

“Markos! Here’s what we do! I’ll take up position in the southern fire lane. You flank from a more southernly position, and attack the south and west pincers, force the enemies into one group. Should only be about two guys per pincer anyway. Use what ever grenades you have left to force them back.

“Niels, Elda! When Markos has the secfors distracted you guys make a break to new cover, get out of that pincer. Once you guys are clear I’ll open up with my shotcannon and we’ll get rid of these fuckers. Markos, you help me sweep up. Let’s go!”

The two of you run down into position, you standing in the middle of the southern fire lane, Markos at the bottom corner. You nod at Markos and give him the signal. He runs forward into the maze of server stacks. A few seconds later you hear the deep cracks of his shotgun, and the occasional explosion of a grenade. “Got one,” Markos grunts over the comm link. “Definitely got one. You don’t get back up from cranial obliteration by shot, I’ll tell you that much.”

“Alright good,” you respond, “Niels, Elda, get clear!”

You wait for the two of them to move out of your line of fire before stomping into one of the more open corridors, shotcannon at the ready. You move forward, but no targets present themselves. Just when you wonder where they could possibly be, a rear alarm activates in your HUD. You attempt to turn around, but the server stacks block the motion somewhat and you fail to do so in time.

Reyumbi Security Forces have a special type of grenade for close quarters missions. They are called concussive grenades, and they have a kill radius of only two meters. They rely solely on the shockwave of the detonation to kill enemies, rather than fragments of steel, as your own frag grenades do. They tend to collapse your lungs and rupture your blood vessels. This particular concussive grenade detonated exactly seventy two point five centimeters away from you.

>>
>>31400183
Well, apology accepted then. I was a little distracted, and didn't see fit to look up the conversion rate. On the bright side I learned something tonight, so maybe it won't happen again.
>>
>>31400056
Seriously? 1 meter = 100 cm. It's the simplest thing.
>>
Rolled 10, 8, 4 = 22

>>31400056
The conversion is pretty simple:
Divide by 100.

The metric system operates in increments of 10.

One meter is ten decimeters is one hundred centimeters is one thousand millimeters.

It may help to equate them with decades/centuries/millenniums.

Your insides feel like they’ve been replaced by watery grape jelly. Your sinuses are bleeding all over your fucking upper lip, although that might just be because the air in here is pretty dry. And the entire world seems like it’s been covered in fuzz and set to rotate around you.

Fuck that.

Fuck being dizzy. Fuck the asshole who threw that nade. And fuck the floor.

The floor is such a fucking dick.

You decide to express your frustration with the floor by punching it with both hands. The two armored fists smash into the ground and send you popping up like a cork. “Ivan!” Elda and Niels cry, a certain amount of relief evident in their voices. You trun around and grab the empty air behind you. The air turns out not to be so empty as your hand settles on the head of a Reyumbi security officer.

You toss the man into the air by his head and punch him right in the gut. The bones of his ribcage shatter into ten thousand tiny bone fragments as he soars backwards through the air, crashing into the ground some five meters away. A bit of blood dribbles out of his mouth, and he dies.

You look around. Still six hostiles alive and active. It’s time to get to work.

"I CALL DIBS"

Fling MAWHM pilot into ceiling.

Pilot MAWHM while piloting BART.
>>
You turn around. You can hear Niels speaking over the comm channel. Video feed is cut. You reactivate it. Niels’ voice dies as your face reappears on the squad channel. It is calm. Serene almost, like a monk who has achieved enlightenment. Serene, until your eyes. Your eyes, alright with some sort of cold, furious glee. “I am the rock,” you murmur in the com channel. You reach down and tap the cup armor of the BART, “And this is my hard place.”

Markos makes some sort of outraged sputtering noise. “Shit. I think Ivan’s gone full Russian on us.”

Elda regains control of her nerve immediately after Markos and barks orders into the comm channel. ”Markos! Ivan is about to be the king idiota! Help soften the secfors up for him before he engages! Niels and I will prevent any flanking maneuvers!”

You don’t really care about what sort of plans of attack your fellow squaddies are figuring out. All you care about is bashing some heads open. Leaning over, you scoop up the shotcannon and begin to march down the hallway slowly. The first opposing secfor reveals himself, shotgun in hand. You decide to show him what a real gun looks like. His mind is quite literally blown.

In the distance you can hear some muffled bangs as Elda and Niels open fire. “Got one in the leg,” Elda shouts. Some small part of your brain registers the fact that he’s probably off limits now. So what? Four and the mom are plenty.
>>
>>31401556
MECHCEPTION!

BWAHHHHMMM!
>>
>>31401556
Mechception? That's a bit too TTGL for this quest.
>>
Another secfor reveals himself. Two in fact. One is carrying a bulwark shield much like your own and a sword. The other has a two handed seismic axe. The secfor with the shield closes first. You block has swung blade with the thick armor encasing your right forearm. You bring your left arm back and propel it forward, punching through his shield. Bits of ceramic glint in the air as they twirl around you. You pull back your fist and punch again. This time it punches through his body armor as well. The secfor flies backwards before slamming into a server stack, sliding the ground, blood pooling at his mouth.

The axe bearing one sees what you did to his compatriot and begins to beat a hasty retreat. You turn his retreat into a rout with a simple blast from your shotcannon. Bits of bone and blood coat the server stacks.

A loud bang from Markos’ shotgun. You click your tongue in irritation. Only one left. You speed up, trying to find the last secfor. You find him cowering behind a server stack, gun cast aside. You lift him up into the air.

Then you remember the MAHWM. That is your kill.

Starting from a flanking lane:

Charge with the last guard as a meatshield/hostage. Throw it onto the cockpit to blind/distract the MAHWM when we're close enough.

Jump onto its side, climb to the cockpit, OPENING THE BART, and axing our way to the pilot.

Go for the damaged actuators, try to knock it off balance, down to our level. Use whatever ranged weapons are at our disposale while we close and/or use cover.
Can't be berserk if we're dead after all, and the mawhwm is JUSt threatening enough to maybe make us play safe

And then, once it has fallen like at-at vs snowspeeder?
we go for the cockpit. With our axe. man to man.

You drop the Shotcannon to the floor. It’s time for something messier. More personal. Still carrying the terrified secfor aloft like a trophy you march over to the gruesome remains of one of his coworkers. The one with the axe. Yes. That will do quite nicely. You pick up the axe, getting used to the feel of the weapon in your hand. What is a two handed weapon is easily one handed by the BART. Satisfied at your acquisition you begin marching to the southern fire lane.

Upon entering the fire lane, you laugh. the MAHWM is still trying to turn it’s bulk around to fulfill some sort of useful capacity. For all the time you spent in fear of the great mech, it proved surprising ineffectual. Still, it’s the last thing standing between you and the mission objective. It has to go.

Well that and reasons of deep personal satisfaction.

You stride up to the MAHWM, brandishing the security officer like some sort of talisman. In some ways, he is. The one thing standing between you and utter obliteration at the terrifying firepower that thing has on the ends of its arms. You feel no fear. Only exhilaration.

You near the MAHWM. Too close for it’s weapons now. You fling the secfor aside, his body twirling in the air before smashing into a stack of servers. His work is done. You rest your free hand against the upper leg piece of the MAHWM’s chassis. You shift your grip and the axe before bringing it to bear.

The thud of the seismic head discharging is deeply satisfying. You can feel the power thrum through the BART’s controls. You bring your hand back and swing again. And again. And again. And again.

Before you know it you’ve sever the MAHWM’s leg completely. The giant mech topples onto its stump, bringing the cockpit ever closer to you. Close enough.
>>
You leap into the air, and bury your seismic axe into the front of the MAHWM’s armor, creating a convenient handhold. Sticking your fist into the hole you go to work on the MAHWM once more. The pilot scrapes at you with his arms, too clumsy and ineffectual to pry you loose. Again you swing, and again you can feel the thrum as the seismic axe discharges it’s stored kinetic energy into the MAHWM’s cockpit. Three strikes later and the MAHWM begins to fall backwards, crashing into the ground with a thunderous clang.

You are not done yet.

You continue battering away at the prone cockpit until you’ve created a gap wide enough to fit both of your armored hands into. Sticking both in, the strain against the weakened metal. Eventually it gives, and you peel away the armor surrounding the cockpit. The Pilot stares up at your through his polarized helmet, even in defeat he radiates defiance as a star does light.

You quell his sun with a fist.

Hopping off of the MAHWM, you come off of your combat high and look around. The rest of your squad filters towards you. Cautiously. Perhaps even fearfully?

>What say you Ivan?

You lean back and press your hands against your lower back, simulating the act of cracking it. “Well. That was fun.”

You turn around to face your squadmates, the panels covering your face sliding away to reveal a shiteating grin. “I hope someone was recording that.”

There is a moment of silence before Markos roars with laughter. Somehow that breaks the spell and the rest of your squad joins in, in their own way. Niels chuckles nervously and even Elda manages a snort.

“Well then. Since it seems you’re all relatively whole and healthy, bullet wound notwithstanding Elda, let’s set the NEMP and get the fuck out of here.”

You and Markos comb through the defeated mercs for cool loot while Niels and Elda open up the hatch to the actual server farm and lower the NEMP in. You manage to scrounge up that two handed seismic axe as well as the grenade launcher and shotcannon to add to your already burgeoning collection of looted weaponry. You know, you’ve been avoiding shotguns for a while now, but to be honest, they’re pretty fun. Especially when they’re firing flechettes, which do wonders (read: war crimes) on body armor.

While you’re picking over the MAHWM you call over to Markos. “Hey Markos! You know how Stacy’s mom has got it going on? Well this mom hasn’t got shit going on.”

Markos look up at you, confusion evident on his face. “What?”

“Oh never mind,” you reply, “Old earth culture reference, you uneducated plebe.”
>>
Markos snorts and rolls his eyes. You are about to try and make another reference he’d actually get when you manage to uncover the perfect trophy. One of it’s leg plates not only has the MAHWM acronym written on it, but also Reyumbi’s corporate logo and a sick as fuck axe gash. You pry off that bit of metal and stick it under your arm. Thing will make a great wall decoration. You also remove the serial plate, if only for your mechhead nerd kicks. To be honest, anyone could make a mock up of that bit of leg armor, the the serial plate has a chip in it with a unique ID code. One of a kind and all yours now. Reyumbi is going to have a massive fucking headache collecting on that warranty without this.

Amused at the thought of giving some pencil pusher a migraine you take a seat on the carcass of the MAHWM and wait for the HOEV to arrive.

Good day.

.... we name the Bart 'The Office'. Fit it with a coffeemaker attachment(who cares about ammo hoppers!), a spinny chair mode that can rotate around the legs, and take all our meetings in the damn thing.

We'll have to de-arm the thing to stomp around the brick, but it will be worth it.

>>

I'd imagine the chip is similar to a plane's logbook, with maintenance records etc.

If i'm right that really puts Reyumbi in a shitty situation because the logbook is a third of the value of a plane outright. I'd also imagine we could have it scrubbed of any tracking systems etc so it's basically just an inert trophy instead of a ticking timebomb.

While I certainly understand the misgivings of some anons regarding shotguns, since we now possess (essentially) a gigantic shotgun that with the right rounds will cut through armor like a knife through butter, I'd suggest we continue in that direction since we get to keep our big bad suit of death.

Of course, I'm sure we can't take it on every mission, but for outright assault/combat missions, it's perfect for our style of fighting with the suit.
