In the grim darkness of the 31st Millennium, iron gods walk among men.

You are god-wielder. You are a proud scion of Legio Pugnatores, the sword of Forge World Yitorach.

Your skin is adamantium: your blood, promethium. Your heart is a star's heart, roiling plasma roaring through your bones. You are armored by the Immaterium itself. You carry death in one fist and fire in the other.

You are the Machine God's own wrath made manifest.

You are a Princeps, pilot of a Titan. And today, Site Primaris shall fall.

>"All units, this is Orpheus Tychore. All Tung squadrons are to strike the anti-orbital guns on Site Primaris immediately. Repeat, all Tung squadrons are to strike the anti-orbital guns immediately. Neutralize the guns at all costs."

"Good for them," snorts Cuugo as the Tung blips on the auspex drift into the distance. "They weren't going to do much against Engines."

"Focus, Moderati Nicator," says Mistra, "we have an Engine-battle at hand to execute. Orders, Princeps?"

You give the pack of Xeno-Engines on the auspex a quick look. The smaller one in the fornt would do nicely. "All armaments on the target. Fire when ready."

A voice comes in through the vox--it is gruff, barely audible over the roaring, thundering engine of the Leman Russ. "This is Captain Jenazat Hallye of the Uthuan Harbingers Harbingers 3rd Company, commanding the 'Sovereign Reaper'. You know Engine-battles better than us, Princeps, direct us as you will."

Captain Hallye's voice is incredulous. "Princeps, that's five Engines you're facing. Are you insane?"

Your reply is terse and clipped. "No, captain, because I will be luring them into a killzone created by you and your company. Make ready your guns, we will be taking them to you shortly."

"Compliance, Princeps. Hallye out."

You next glance at Cuugo. "Moderati Nicator, take us down to bearing oh-oh-nine, full stride."

"Bearing oh-oh-nine, full stride!" cries Cuugo. The cockpit bucks and shakes as Tankred's iron legs bear its form loping across the battlefield.

You focus your aim at the incoming Xeno-Engines, aiming at the smaller one in front, steadying your pounding heart, trying to keep out the knowledge that you are facing five Engines without the rest of the Warmongers.

At the last second, Tankred seems to buck in bloodlust, and your shots go wide.

"Miss," you growl.

Hrm, I think I might not have explained enough in full...

In the first thread, we voted on what weapons our Titan has: we ended up taking the Vulcan Megabolter and the Turbolaser. Consult the combat mechanics pastebin on how each weapon works.

Because of this, we do not have access to the Plasma Destructor.

When rolling for weapons damage, you simply roll 1d20 for each weapon you want to fire. So on the e-mail field, you'd roll "dice+2d20". I will add the appropriate bonus numbers myself after I see the dice roll results.

If you've got any other questions, feel free to ask!

The Xeno-Abomination's power fields flare as your Turbolaser strikes it, sparks flying from the crude energy field. A salvo from your Megabolter rips away the rest and lands several good hits against the hull. Smoke pours out where the armor is ruptured.

"Princeps," says Cuugo. You can hear the grin in his voice, but his words are also tinged with a hint of nervousness. "I believe we have their attention."

The earth around you erupts as five Ork Gargants let loose their volleys, but the Machine God is with you--the worst is a shot easily turned aside by your Void Shields, barely draining them of power. Orks never were known for their marksmanship.

By now Tankred has positioned itself between the Orks and the Uthuans, and is beginning to stride backwards, keeping all guns pointed at the foe.

Bolt after bolt after bolt slams into the stricken Xeno-Engine. Mass-reactive shells, each the length and width of a man's arm, burrow into the flaming armored hull and explode, scattering scrap-metal and plumes of flame. Each bolt makes the Engine shudder, each detonation tips it backwards, until with a screech of metal it smashes into the earth.

"Engine kill," says Mistra. Her voice is calm, but you can hear the hint of satisfaction in it. You yourself can't help but smile.

"Change targets to the closest Engine, fire the Turbolaser when ready."

"Turbolaser ready, aye."

"Fire."

The Ork's Power Field flares as the Turbolaser scourges it, but despite Tankred's fury the field still holds. Grimacing, you order Tankred to move back, half pace, Ork shells chasing you all the while.

One strikes true.

"Void Shields holding at 55%!"

<Actuators nearing dangerous heat levels, dispatching servitors.>

You hear none of this, however, as you clench your teeth, doing your utmost to ignore the pain clawing away at your chest. Blood sings through your ears as ruby-red welts form across your sternum.

"R-ready weapons," you manage to gasp, "Moderati Mi-Mistra, give me a firing solution."

"Aye, Princeps."

In the Manifold, you see the blossoms of heat signatures as the Uthuans begin to open fire.

You raise a good point. I'll count those rolls.

----

Like a boil popped by a lance, the Xeno-Engine's Power Field bursts under the fury of your Turbolaser. Bursts from your Megabolter follow, hewing yet more metal from its chassis. What's left is a barely functiong wreck that the Uthuans finish off.

The returning fire does not relent, however, and Tankred is rocked by another blow. Through the pain, you vaguely comprehend the Manifold telling you that your crew is trying, and failing, to raise Void Shields.

>Tankred status:

Then you notice something on the auspex. "Princeps!" says Cuugo. "One Engine is going after the Uthuans!" Indeed, one of the Ork-Engines turns its attention from you to your Imperial allies. Something strikes you--whether it is instinct or a flash of insight from the Machine God Himself you're not certain, but something tells you to adjust your aim -just- so. Your modifications to the targeting solution makes Mistra quirk an eyebrow. "Princeps? What are you--"

In the distance, the Xeno-Engine erupts in a cloud of flame and melting steel, its crude reactor blasted apart by your god-slaying weapons. Your Moderati look back and forth, back and forth at your latest kill and yourself.

"I...Engine kill, I suppose." Mistra can only shake her head in disbelief.

Hallye's voice cuts in through the shock. "Nicely done, Princeps. I'm assuming this means my squadrons won't be withdrawing, so I'll have them re-engage the remaining Engines. Hallye out."

It appears the Orks too were taken aback by your fury--returning fire is sporadic and comically inaccurate.

Yours is Ork-slayer, dethroner of abominable iron gods that obscene Xenos raise as an affront to the Machine God. Tankred's Turbolaser bursts the Gargant's Power Fields in one strike, while its Megabolter tears apart armor and superstructure until the Engine is well perforated. But Orks are resilient if nothing else, and this holds true for their blasphemous creations--despite your assault, your target still stands, albeit barely. Additional Vanquisher shells from Uthuan squadrons send it periously close to a catastrophic reactor breach.

<Diverting power to Void Shields,> blurts Enginseer Deculta. <Void Shields restored to 55% functionality.>

'Good,' you think. 'One Engine is about the fall: the other is badly outnumbered. Soon--'

Your thoughts, as well as your Void Shields, are blasted apart by a salvo from the two enemy Engines. Your blood vessels rupture, your flesh and muscle split apart in sympathetic pain as Tankred's Void Shields collapse and Ork munitions carve deep gashes into your shoulder and across your stomach.

"Moderati...Moderati Mistra," you manage to say, "split-fire targeting solution, if you'd please."

"Darius--" says Cuugo, but you cut him off.

"Moderati Nicator, maneuver us into an optimal firing position."

cuugo gives you a long, hesitating look, then turns back to his post. "Compliance, Princeps. Maneuvering now."

You aim your weapons, ignoring the wet, growing patches of warmth spreading across your torso.

There is a secret amongst the Collegia Titanica that few outside it know, even among other Mechanicus.

Most assume that the most untested Princeps are assigned to Warhounds because Warhounds are the most numerous and easiest to replace among Titans, as far as Titans can be described as such. This is true, to an extent--only a fool would entrust something as mighty and willful as an Imperator to a young, untested mind.

But the other reason is this: the Warhound is a test of will for the youngest Princeps, for it is a seductive beast. It is a destruction-luster, blood-thirster, and for a young Princeps eager for glory, it is all too easy to give into that bloodlust, the Machine Spirit's call for violence. It is a sweet nectar that can be sipped, but never wholly drunk. And so the Warhound is both a weapon and a test for the Collegia; a test of will against not just the loss of self in face of a mighty Machine Spirit, but also a test against temptation.

At this moment, you are perilously close to failing this test, hurt and disoriented as you are from the shock of your wounds, and in such a state Tankred's Spirit bays for violence. But for now you could not ask for a sword sharper, a weapon mightier.

Your right arm's Megabolter chews apart the Gargant, an Engine whose size and armament dwarfs even your own. Before it can even finish exploding, you turn to your last prey and unleash upon it the fury of a sun, stripping it of its Power Fields and turning armor plates to slag. Uthuan shells follow in its wake, and you can barely resist the urge to scream at them, turn your guns on them--no one takes Tankred's prey.

A stray shot from the Gargant leaves a gash on your unshielded thigh, but the wound barely registers.

<Hormone levels spiking. Moderati Nicator, Ossea, please attend to the Princeps, he is in danger of being overcome by this Engine's Machine Spirit.>

Both your Moderati start as they turn in their seats, looking back at you. Your eyes are wide, bloodshot, and your teeth are clenched in a rictus-grin. Your breath saws in and out, in and out, and your knuckles are alabaster-white from their grip on the command throne.

"Blood of the Machine..." mutters Cuugo. "Darius? Darius! Stay with us, remember who you are and who's with you. Darius?"

"Princeps," says Mistra. The MIU plugs anchor her to her chair, but she turns in her chair and leans towards you as far she possibly can. "Princeps--no, Darius. Listen. Listen to me." Her hand is just barely able to grasp yours, and the sudden touch of human flesh makes you start.

Cuugo follows suit, and he too manages to get a firm grip on your trembling hand. "You remember, don't you? The Bronzed Dams of Inkaro? When we had seminars there, and we'd try to fall asleep without Techpriest Altri noticing?"

"Or our first simulated engagement," says Mistra, her voice soothing and calm, "when we were graded at the top of our class?"

Cuugo can't help but chuckle. "Grito couldn't get over that for weeks. Insisted that you cheated. You remember that, don't you, when he accused you of secretly defiling the simulator's code when no one was looking?"

Yes...you do remember. Memories and sensations seep into your mind, displacing Tankred's fury.

"Come back to us, Darius," says Cuugo.

"Aye. Legio Pugnatores needs you."

And with a snap that sends you crashing back into your throne, you feel yourself free of Tankred's anger.

You suck in air that suddenly feels sweet and cool. "I...Tankred. Its anger, I -felt- it, like never before. Almost lost in it."

<Indeed,> comes Deculta's data-blurt. <Hormonal levels and MIU-synchronization levels were well beyond danger thresholds. Your Moderati did much to prevent you from being subsumed by this Engine's Machine Spirit.>

You give your Moderati, your closest friends, a long look each. "Thank you. Thank you both. I might be a burnt out husk now if it weren't for you."

Two smiles of relief are your reply. "Glad you're back with us," says Cuugo, as Mistra nods in agreement. "Shall I maneuver us back to the primary engagement, give us a chance to collect ourselves? The Uthuan captain just sent us a message that his Company can handle the remaining Xeno-Engine."

"Aye," you say. "Aye, let's do that."

>Do a perspective change to the Tung Lancers, and guide them on their mission to destroy the anti-orbital guns

You are Lao Tung, Hetman of the Tung 6th Lancers.

In the grim darkness of the far future, all you ever need to prosecute a war is a good biker on a good bike with a good gun. Everything else is a waste of time--Titans, tanks, Astartes, that's all shiny toys.

And while the red tin-heads from Mars have their glory battles out on the field, it's up to you and your Tung Lancers to accomplish the REAL mission: take out Site Primaris.

"Hetman Lao!" comes the cry in your vox-bead. Ming-Han Shan, your lieutenant. "Site Primaris is dead ahead!" And indeed, there they are, the huge anti-orbital guns, each capable of pulling down an Imperial warship straight out the void and sending it crashing it into the earth. In front of them are packs of Orks, accompanied by clanking, bowl-legged walking machines with saws for hands.

"Men of Tung," you say, over the deafening roar of thousands of war-bikes. "Men of Tung, ahead is the enemy. Drive them before you! And I do not know if these ugly Ork creatures have women, but if they do, make them hear the lamentations of their warriors!" A chorus of cheers greet you as you consider your plan of attack...

>Choose a plan of attack
>>Blitz: strike all of the anti-orbital guns at once. A swift blow knock as many of them out as possible.
>>Divide and conquer: concentrate your forces on one gun at a time, using the majority of them to storm a gun while the rest remain on bikes, warding off any reinforcements.
>>Other

Notes:
There are a total of 4 anti-orbital guns.
Each anti-orbital gun has several hundred Ork troops supported by light walkers.
You have approximately 2,000 biker ready to fight.
Most of your armaments consist of lasguns, autocannons (mounted on two-man attack bikes), plasma guns, frag/krak grenades, and melta charges.
>>
>>31442353
Addendum:

The 4 anti-orbital guns are arranged in a diamond pattern, with one to the north, one to the east, one to the west, and one to the south. The Tung Lancers are closest to the gun to the south.

>>Blitz: strike all of the anti-orbital guns at once. A swift blow knock as many of them out as possible.
Were bikes, not tanks, hit and run fast attacks are what we do, not sit at each gun taking a pounding
>>
>>31442353
>Divide and conquer
We will take out each gun, overwhelm their defenses, before the Orks can marshall a force to stop us.

>Divide and conquer

"We will assault the southernmost gun first." You pull out your curved power sword and point it forwards, igniting the weapon and sending blue lightning streaking down the blade. "Boar's Tusk Formation! Ride them down!"

"RIDE THEM DOWN!"

A Tung bike-charge is a thing of fast, brutal beauty. As the bikes near their prey, those with clear shots pour fire into the weakest spot in the enemy lines. Then, on command, the Tung race for the opened gap, crushing and overrunning all in their path, until the line is broken and the wheeling Tung turn on their outmaneuvered and confused prey.

This is what happened to the Orks at the southernmost gun.

Your beloved bike crushes Ork upon Ork as it roars into the gap. Your power sword rises and falls, rises and falls, each stroke chopping limbs, severing heads, cleaving weapons and armor in twain. Your Lancers are just behind, shooting and blasting and hacking and crushing.

A bellow from your right--you turn, and before you is a huge, particularly ugly Ork, armed with a colossal axe. Instead of a proper axe head, the killing end is a chainblade, making the head of the weapon look like some manner of toothed beast. Its wielder roars out what sounds like a challenge.

>Propose a plan of attack
>>Example: Charge the Ork, zoom past it while dropping a payload of grenades at its feet, wheel around as it's recovering from the explosion, then finish it off with your sword
>>Example: Take potshots with your plasma pistol, then when it gets close kick some dust into its eyes with your wheels and chop off its legs

You split your face with a grin as the huge creature stomps its way towards you. You rev your bike once, twice, and begin a circling pattern around the Nob, blasting Orks out of the way in between potshots aimed at the leg and chainaxe.

Precision shots with a pistol on a moving bike is not exactly possible, but then, precision shots aren't what you're looking for. You're looking for grazes, near misses, the pin-pricks that goad the beast into an attack, an attack you're more than ready for. And soon enough, the Ork lets out a frustrated roar and rushes headlong towards you.

There is an old Tung saying: it is the charging tiger that expects the braced spear the least.

When the Ork rushes at you, you rush at it yourself, kicking up dust and Ork blood as you race around and through the tumult of green xenos between you and your prey. At the last second, you throw your weight back and lift the front of the bike up, such that the front wheel is left spinning freely in the air, flinging dust off itself and into the unsuspecting eyes of the Ork. By the time it comprehends what is happening to it, the front wheel has already found purchase on its ugly face, smashing tusks and pulping its porcine nose.

Here you throw your weight forward and gun the engine to its limits. The momentum from your charge launches you up the front of the bewildered Nob, up and away, using its hulking form as a ramp.

In one heartbeat, its face is pulped, its eyes swollen and blackened, its nose smashed to uselessness. It is an Ork, so to it such wounds are barely an inconvenience. But even Orks can't see out of swollen eyes.

That means it can't see the little present you left behind before you ramped off. One little krak grenade--what works on armored vehicles ought to work on an Ork Nob, you figure.

You pay the explosion no need as you set off, laughing with your men as you cut down the rest of the Orks.

Soon enough, the southernmost gun is yours.

Bodies of the lesser green creatures--Gretchin, you think they're called--litter the floors of the anti-orbital gun. The controls are crude, largely bits of metal stuck together with levers poking out here and there, but they seem to work well enough.

Your Ming-Han approaches you, requesting orders.

You look at each other, then out at the battlefieldd where the Titans battle, then collapse into heaps of laughter.

"I will do so at once," says Shan once he recovers.

It's something of a miracle, but somehow your men have managed to get the captured gun working. Soon enough they line up their first shot on the westernmost gun.

"FIRE!"

The roar of the gun is deafening, bone shaking, like the unlocking of the gears of the almighty Machine God. When the smoke clears, you call for a pair of binoculars and take a look out of a crude observation port.

"...you missed." Your men simply shrug and attempt to realign the gun.

The next shot is closer on-target, as are most of the ones after that; you're fortunate in that the guns are quite close to one another, and therefore can directly fire at the other anti-orbital guns. Soon enough, there's just the easternmost gun left.

Ming-Han Shan's voice comes in from the vox-bead. "Hetman, there is a problem. One of the loader feeds in the gun has jammed--we will need a little time to repair it. Meanwhile, we have reports of a xeno force sallying out of the last gun and heading directly towards us."

You've had your fun. You came, you saw, you destroyed, and now it is time to leave.

"Ming-Han, all but the gunnery crew down to the load feeders, repair them immediately--I want this gun operational five minutes ago. Gunnery crew, align the gun at the last target, fire when ready then leave immediately." Here, you pause and point to several squads of men. "You men, bring along what melta charges you have and set them up inside this building, demolition pattern. As soon as the gunnery crew is clear, bring this scrap heap down. The rest of you: mount up."

The Tung Lancers all go about their assigned tasks in a flurry, gunnery crews aiming, repair crews repairing, Lancers dissasembling equipment and readying bikes.

Soon, it is time to leave.

"Ming-Han, you're cutting it close..."

"Almost ready, Hetman..."

"Ming-Han."

"There! Gunnery crew, fire, then ride like the wind!"

With one last earth-shaking roar, the gun turns the last of its compatriots into a flaming pile of scrap. But its former garrison is still coming.

Your men are assembled now, all mounted up and ready to withdraw. You raise your curved sword into the air once more, looking your men in the eye, casting one more glance at the oncoming Ork horde.

"Men of Tung! We ride!"

As one, the Tung 6th Lancers rev off away from Site Primaris. The majority of the Orks mill about their recaptured gun.

Ming-Han Shan's voice comes in through the vox. "Er, Hetman, the charges--"

"Wait for it."

It's difficult to see at this distance, but it looks like the biggest one hasn't gone inside the gun yet.

"Hetman--"

"Wait for it..."

Ah, there he goes.

"Now."

With a resounding clap, the melta charges, each capable of penetrating tank armor and annihilating slabs of ferrocrete, go off as one.

The skies above Site Primaris are clear. Now orbital and aerial support could begin their work in earnest.

"You see, my good Ming-Han," you say, as the wind kisses your hair, "a good sense of timing never harmed anyone."

"Except for the big one, I suppose."

With your bikes roaring across the battlefield, you return to your lines, mission accomplished.
