After the dinner, or rather most of the dinner, the guests stand up, move around exchange places, or pull up chairs and form little circles and groups of discussion here and there, chatting and gossiping among themselves in a cheerfully informal atmosphere, all the while still drinking and eating. The servants never stop bringing food and drink, although most of the food now comes in small bites rather than full courses.
You are very clearly the talk of the party, and you long stopped counting the glances that people shoot in your direction after losing count around the hundredth-and-something. Curious, scared, disdainful, interested, intrigued, paranoid, thankful, suspicious, shaming, nervous, mentally-undressing, wondering-how-they-could-make-a-profit-out-of-you...
Despite all this interest, no one dares to actually come and just talk to you, probably waiting for someone else to do it first.
>wait and see

>Who are we?
Maka, an exiled noble recently Exalted as a Zenith-caste Solar. She's in the western city of Tianna as a guest of queen Amata (DB), an old friend. Abyssals are targeting the city for conquest, Lintha pirates have infiltrated it with spies and agents, and half the island is controlled by paranoid Lunars. Fun times.

>Solar? Zenith? I don't know Exalted...
This quest is as newbie-friendly as possible, and I want it to work as a newbie's intro to Exalted. If you have ANY question, ask in thread. For the setting, google "1d4chan exalted".

>Archive?
http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=zenith

>System?
Dicepool-like system. When performing an action, everyone rolls 1d10 when posting. the first X rolls are considered, where X is equal to attribute + ability. Yes, this means that the more people are posting, the stronger Maka is, up to a limit of her attribute + ability.

>XP?
Attributes cost [current score x5] xp. Abilities cost [current score x3] xp, except Zenith costing [(current score x3) -1]. Charms cost 10 xp, except for Zenith-based charms (related to charisma and physical/mental fortitude) which cost 8 xp. At the end of every "session" (thread) you will be presented with a list of possible acquisitions.

You discreetly approach Samiel, who is pleasantly chatting with a couple of guard officers. You can't help but notice that Smoke's dress sense has made him a target of many ogling glances as well (mostly but not exclusively from female guests), a fact of which he seems to be blissfully unaware.
As he notices you, he excuses himself and approaches you with a sip of his drink.

"Hey, Maka. Enjoying the dinner?"

"It feels like everyone is looking at me but no one wants to talk to me." you say. "Couldn't you help me break the ice and introduce me to someone?"

"YOU are being shy?" he replies, utterly amazed.

"Of course not." you brush him off with a disdainful sigh. "Bet you one talent I stand on the table and strip."

"No bet." he says before you even finish your sentence.

It would be really short anyway, you reason internally, since you're only wearing a single item of clothing. "I just don't really know who should I talk with. I don't know who all these people are."

"Well..." the dragon-blooded looks around. "There are the ambassadors from Wavecrest and Coral, representatives of both the Guild and the Denzik Merchants, several of our guard officers and governors of the countryside provinces of Tianna, the director of the academy, a couple guests from the nomad tribes of the Three Rivers, the head priest of our city god, the guildmasters of various artisan's corporations in the city..."

"...any Immaculates?" Tia, who has been overhearing the conversation from next to you, wonders.

"Not officially. Some of these people might be immaculates as personal beliefs, but there are no official representatives of the cult here. Nor of other cults, apart for the city god. Mom likes to keep them out of this kind of social events."

You take a better look at the ambassadors of the two other western nations.

The one from Wavecrest is a dignified-looking man in his 50s, clad in a toga and with a rather showy necklace of colorful seashells. He has quite a group around him, listening to what appears to be, at a glance, a lengthy monologue about some sort of hot political topic.

On the other hand, the Coral ambassador is rather businessmanlike, younger and sporting a short, well-trimmed beard and an impeccable suit, of the sort that you imagine would be quite expensive. He's sitting on his own with a glass of wine , his previous conversation partner having just left him to go and meet Amata.

After a glance and a nod, Samiel fills his own glass and accompanies you to them. "Gentlemen. I don't believe you've met Maka already?"

"A pleasure to meet you." You lightly bow to them, polite but neutral.

"Likewise! Shelen Sar, here in Tianna as a representative of the Sea Lord and Coral's interests." He raises his glass to you. "I've heard a bit about you. So you rounded up some of the marqueless pirates operating in these waters. Will you be issuing them letters of marque of some kind, or integrating them in Tianna's navy?"

"Probably the latter, though the issue is still been discussed. For now, they are in admiral Rajan's care."

"Oh, yes, Rajan." He stares into his glass. "Poor fellow. Anyway, would you be interested in entrusting these sailors and their ships' maintenance to the Coral Archipelago, instead? We can guarantee far greater monetary returns than any kind of operation you could undertake in this waters, we assure you."

Meanwhile, the other ambassador stays silent, focusing his gaze on your forehead.

>I'm interested, tell me more.

You smile politely, ignoring the Wavecrest ambassador for now.

"I'm sorry, but I plan to stay in Tianna for the foreseeable future."

"You don't need to leave it." He points out. "I'm just saying that it would be a lot more advantageous for you to associate yourself with us. Strictly speaking business."

"Yes, I understand." You reply. "But I'm not motivated by monetary gain here."

"What is it that motivates you, then?" He takes a sip. "Whatever it is, I'm sure that-"

"What is your relationship with Tianna, incidentally?" You interrupt him.

"Oh, well, not much. Tianna has very little shipping, and is not a very rich nation. Although it has a decent infrastructure and a strong land army, it also has no power projection so it's not much of a player in ocean politics. We receive a small yearly payment and in exchange put an exception on our letters of marque for their shipping. Which, of course, caused a surge in small-time unsanctioned piracy along your coasts, but you seem to be taking care of that problem."

>>
>>31468054
Right, but what is it? Shadowlands can be and usually are very different from each other. Is it somewhere we should consider as a potential Abyssal staging ground? The fact that we're trading with Coral without having to go through Wavecrest means we're probably near the northernmost bit of our archipelago, which should put us about as close as Wavecrest ever gets to that Shadowland.

That and the fact that even those without the Immaculate Faith will still see non-DB exalts as punk bitches who don't deserve the rightful authority that DBs have at best, and someone to call the Immaculates on at worst. The Realm and its people have a MASSIVE vested interest in being the big kids on the block, even when the Immaculate Order isn't involved, and WILL try to knock down anyone they see trying to step up.

Just look at what house Mnemon almost did to Tianna.
>>
>>31468000
Coral is a plutarchy and a powerful nation based on being essentially a giant trading/pirate/mafia hub. They believe that if you're not strong enough to protect your stuff then you deserve to be robbed, basically. What other nations consider corruption (paying state officials and magistrates to have favor treatment, etc) is the way things normally work there. They issue letters of marque and basically base their power on the fact that they can grant you immunity from (most) pirates... or sic them on you.

Wavecrest is a loose alliance of large but rather poor islands. Think oceania/micronesia, with tribal customs, volcanoes, etc. They are a Realm client state, but don't contribute much in taxes because they don't HAVE much in the way of conventional wealth - heck, seashells are legal tender there. They are, however, a very large nation, geographically and in population, and the main source of not-fish food and freshwater in the west by virtue of having most of the land.

Skullstone is a nation that has been taken over by a Deathlord, who represents some sort of undead messiah for them. He made an utopic/dystopic (depending on who you ask) nation where the dead and the living work side by side, and is the elephant in the room of western politics. They're obviously a superpower but play nice with all their neighbors and don't act particularly hostile , which makes them either misunderstood good guys who are victims of anti-undead prejudice, or conniving bastards playing a very deep game, again, depending on who you ask. Tianna has no embassy or contact with them (because they're fairly distant and because Amata is firmly in the "bastards playing a very deep game" camp).

Any other questions?

So, during the last Exalted General, I learned a lot about Gem. Apparently, it's like an old west boom town that never stopped growing. Money and might make right, and noble/royal houses rotate in and out as fast as fortunes rise and fall. People there are so brutal that people often get sold into slavery over debts, and debtor families will often sell their children into slavery to at least make sure they have a say in who their kids go to.

The current king - or Tyrant - is Rankar, a cunning, ruthless, and short-sighted man, who doesn't give a rats ass how Gem continues after he dies. He wants luxury and power, and everyone else can figure his shit out after he's gone. It's canon that he usurped his way into his current position with a small army of well-paid mercenaries, and to this day collects a 'licensing fee' from every business in Gem instead of taxes.

What all this means is that Maka's family was probably in charge of Gem for a time before Rankar. They probably had some kind of lapse in funds, and Rankar used that opportunity to take over. Most of Maka's family is probably dead - and those who aren't dead have likely been sold into slavery. If beauty runs in her family, they're likely in someone's harem somewhere, and in dire need of rescuing.

There was also mention of betrayal. That likely means at least one family member was helping Rankar - to undermine the house's finances at the very least.

Thoughts?

Here's a picture of a likely sibling.
>>
>>31468311

>>
Rolled 10

>>31468318
Well, that's possibly the least PAULDRONS picture of armor I've ever seen.

Aside from that, that sounds like a fairly likely backstory based on what little I know about both Gem and Maka's background. If some of Maka's family actually are in slavery, then that means we should move the timetable on reconquering Gem up dramatically. If they're not, then we should continue at our current pace.

I'm wondering if Exaltedfag could chip in on how much of this is accurate. That could really quite dramatically affect how we aim ourselves long-term one way or the other. Or, at least, it could for me.

...too bad? We're already confirmed as a royal of Gem, usurped within our own lifetime. If the current ruling family of Gem has been ruling for multiple generations, that either means we're part of Rankar's family or that he usurped us.

And the only time he used 'we' was to say that 'we' could change the story if we wanted to. Which is accurate, you cunt.
>>
Rolled 9

>>31468504
Okay but we were confirmed to be Royalty in our lifetime, a Princess specifically according to the votes in the early threads, and we had to have had family at SOME point, and some people were obviously wondering what happened to them.

I like this theory/explanation and hope EF goes with it, and so do at least a couple other people, so yes, "we" is appropriate
>>
>>31468536
You're awful salty about someone having an opinion that isn't your own there, mate.

I said that your fanfiction was poorly executed and thoroughly cliched, not that what was already in place was bad. (Even that is ALSO thoroughly cliched, it's a very understandable/relateable/basically standard hero story)

>>31468548
I'm aware. I'm not refuting the existing story but expressing my distaste for what was just presented.

>>
>>31468466
I'm pretty sure that extent of our backstory hasn't been revealed so we don't know for certain, but given a comment Maka made about being driven our of Gem I'd wager that the coup/rebellion happened within the last few years. I doubt the leadership of Gem has changed hands in that small window of time and I suspect whatever members of our family survived are either also living under the radar in exile or suffering one of those horrible fates befitting ousted royalty.
>>
Rolled 9

>>31468563
>I prefer the "betrayed by family (or whatever)," narrative more.
Then tell us an alternative, for fuck's sake. Explain an alternative that fits in with Gem as-written while changing as few things as possible. I think, after all, that's what the point of that original post was.

Also, you really were being a cunt. It's all in the presentation, and this?

>Don't use the "we," word unless you're talking about sex or beer.

So, I think it's definitely time that we need a confirmed backstory from Exaltedfag, since it's clear that some of us have conflicting ideas of what Maka's backstory might be.

Details will be decided during play as normal. We're not following the story as outlined in the official books strictly, and it might differ wildly in the end.

That right there? That's about the most cuntish, presumptuous, and rude way you could have put that. And, again, the guy wasn't speaking for everyone. The ONLY time he said 'we' was when saying that we could, collectively, change Gem's story. Not that 'we' had a consensus to that effect.

If you say so. I still feel like, until we know more about our life's situation in Gem, we'll just keep ignoring it. Knowing more about our backstory could extremely dramatically affect the direction we want to go with all this.

For example, if it's confirmed that Maka has family members who are now sex slaves in someone's harem? That'll get me off my ass and wanting to go to Gem. As long as it's all an enigma? My default assumption is that there's nothing too important back there, and we may as well just stick around Tianna.

"Are you an Anath-"

"A Solar Exalted." You correct him. "I'm not a monster or a demon."

"I... See." He doesn't seem all too reassured.

A few seconds of extremely awkward silence follow.

"So... You're the ambassador for Wavecrest here in Tianna. What are your relations?" You try and strike up a conversation.

"W-we..." He hesitates. "We're friends, really."

"The Feathered One, ruler of Wavecrest, considers Tianna to be part of the Archipelago." Samiel helpfully chimes in from behind you. "We, of course, disagree and stay independent."

"We- we've never been at war or anything."

"M-my nation rejects war as a means of aggression and conquest."

"...and what can you tell me about the Realm?" You try asking.

"We enjoy the protection of the Realm as their most powerful ally in the West!" He blurts out like it was a magical litany of Protection against Anathema. "We export wheat, fruit and wood, as well as cowries, to the Realm in exchange for metals and goods, and shelter a considerable portion of their Western Fleet in our harbors."

He is certainly eager to let you know that they have the Realm on their side and they will protect them if you try and start anything. You do have the suspicion that he's over-exaggerating Wavecrest's importance to try and intimidate you.

It's not really working. Even if you are trying to make him feel at ease, he's sweating bullets. His fear of you is likely not particularly religious in nature: you don't see holy terror or fear of blasphemy in his eyes, but a very practical nervousness, the fear of a man that realizes he's locked in a metaphorical cage with a superhuman who is closer to a foe than to a friend.

The two of you keep chastting for another few minutes out of politeness, witho really adding much.

After a bit, you glance at Amata, who is virtually surrounded by sycophants and attention-seekers. She blinks at you while keeping up an empty smile, a silent and desperate plea for help.

You nod back at her, and then, to the Wavecrest ambassador: "It's been a pleasure talking with you, but I think queen Amata needs my assistance. I really hope that Tianna and Wavecrest can keep enjoying peaceful relationships in general."

He lifts an eyebrow, suspicious at your "in general", but says nothing.

"...and if you ever come to regret your choices of allies, I'll always be there for you." you smile.

"...do you mean the Realm?"

"I might." you nod pleasantly, then turn and walk up to Amata, taking brief notice of Tia soundly sleeping on a chair, together with the two barbarian representatives and a prodigious amount of empty bottles scattered all around.

The moment you join Amata's group, bit by bit almost everyone excuse themselves and leave, or quietly fall in the background staying silent.

"Thank you." she whispers. "Are you bored yet?"

"Not really, though I have the feeling that you left the most interesting people I could meet out of this dinner on purpose." you reply.

As everyone's heads turn towards you and Amata, she raises her voice above the buzzing noise in the dinner hall: "A moment of attention, please!"

The noise dies down.

"My good friend and ally Maka, a Chosen of the Sun who recently saved Tianna from a vicious Abyssal attack, dealt with piracy along our shores, secured an alliance between Tianna and the Northern Tribes, and put an end to the Wyldland of the Black Marsh!" she introduces you.
The ensuing applause is incredibly weird, a mix of forced clapping, ironic slow claps, some enthusiastic noise and cheer, and occasional bouts of silence.

"I'd like Maka to do a little speech for us." she grins and pushes you in the centre of the room.
Someone hastily and quietly leaves it, but most of the guests stay, staring you down with varied expressions.

The noise dies down, leaving you complete silence. You can almost hear your own heartbeat.

You flash a smile at the small crowd. "That's... Way too much praise, Amata. I did none of those things on my own, nor could I have."

You look around, involving the people around you in your speech.

"This, all of this, has definely been a success born out of teamwork. Starting from the Queen herself and the royal family, down to everyone who took part in these operations. Everyone gave its best. And, probably, I've been the one whose life have been saved by you. Ever since long before I was Chosen, I was a guest of this beautiful kingdom, which I consider, by now, my second homeland. I can only hope that what I've done can begin to repay this kindness you've showed me."

Some more clapping follows. The crowd seems a bit appreciative of the humility you're showing. At least they don't think you're a power-mad god-queen.

Or, perhaps, they've decided that you're good at hiding it. Still, at least some of them seem to genuinely appreciate your short speech.

"Incidentally." Amata steps forward, grabbing your hand, this time not to pull you anywhere, but as a genuine gesture of affection. "I and Maka also have an announcement to make."

Samiel and Irene begin clapping and grinning already. The rest of the room grows silent again. It takes you a moment to realize what she's about to do.

Like the master politician she is, Amata lets the suspenseful silence longer just long enough to leave people wondering and curious without stretchving the wait too thin, before sliding an arm around your waist and proclaiming:

"We plan to get married sometime soon."

Then, in the stone dead complete silence of the vast dining hall, in front of everyone, she kisses you. Deeply.

About other ten seconds pass by before the room completely explodes with the noise of everyone talking with everyone else at the same time. You can easily imagine what most of those conversations are about, and the crowd even manages to win its suspicion of you as it closes in in confusion.

Some talk about appropriateness, other about religion, some about state concerns, or forbidden love, or political ties, or the Crown or Gem, or technicalities of the laws of succession, or motivations."

Above every other noise, however, Amata's voice rings crystal clear: "This is not about alliances, or about uniting the crowns of Gem and Tianna, or any other political concern. This is about love. And I wouldn't give Maka up for the Scarlet Throne."

It's better to leave everything in her hands. She seems in control. Besides, she NEEDS to be in control, in front of these people.

And she is. You see her standing proudly, positively shining, the focal point of the room. She sweeps you gently off your feet, lifting you up in her arms.

"With this, we will be taking our leave."

The questioning crowd follows you up to the doors of the room in a whirling chaos, but they are closed just after your exit. Millian, standing just behind them, gives you a thumbs-up.

You look up to Amata. "How long do we have before the festival and dance?"

"I'm the queen." she replies, picking up speed, steering towards her bedroom.

"I'm not complaining." you point out. "I could do with some warm-ups first."

You meant guests from the dinner disturbing you, of course, but thinking about it, you could probably leave the door open and no one would still be bothering you.

"And why does everyone want to drag me to a bedroom?" you ask a bit ironically, as most of your past days have been spent that way. You're not complaining about that, either.

"Because doing it on the table would have been a bit undignified. Before being married, at least." she replies, as your little dress flies away.

"Why did you decide to tell everyone now? I thought you wanted to keep it a secret." you're struck with one more question, as your hands gently peel Amata's own elaborate dress off.

>>
>>31470926
Actually, being 'raped into submission' by unthinkable horrors which predate and constructed reality is probably the reason so many Infernals go rogue in the first place.
>>
>>31470714
Ok, now i think i might have a new scheme for our people who want to go Federation or Fleetlord.

We build up our pirate fleet up work with Tianna Admiral and go about hunting Lintha and other problems, and perhaps in doing so court the Coral Archipelago for admission in their trade/piracy club so we can have our navy do legitimate buisness and benefit from their conrtacts and support.

We could then slowly social-fu them into something that both we, our DBs and Lunars like somewhat and work someway to make them a serious naval and ecconomic power.

considering we are supposed to have a strong land army on the island, Celestial Exalted, access to small ammounts of gossamer and with the new Manses and First age weapons we could become a considerable powerblock in the Coral political arena enouch to find out allies in the plutocracy and shape it into something we can use.

And then take over and invade Wavecrest with Coral support. We are going to take the lions share of it since we will be the land army and marine, of course and we are going to use said massive population to increase our growing superiority in manpower in comparison to other coral factions. Use that to reinforce our armies and jumpstart a ecconomic rebirth, and have a Archipelagos united in the west.
>>
Rolled 2

>>31470950
>And then take over and invade Wavecrest with Coral support.
Coral wouldn't support that. They're pirates and merchants, not conquerors. With how they have the politics and economy set up, they would have nothing to gain and everything to lose by having Wavecrest conquered by a strong, cohesive power.
>>
Rolled 3

>>31470970
>>31470950

Given the way the Coral ambassador was talking it seems pretty obvious that Coral's behind most, if not all the problems - Pirates, Lintha, Possibly abyssals...
>>
>>31470970
Well the idea behind it would be that we are going to be in Coral.

And its not hard to get people to do things that are against their comunal interests., if one is on the inside.

It will enssentialy mean that Coral can get a flat fee on trade in Wavecrest without bothering to piracy there, and its not like they have much prizes there or most likely they are aslo bought off their back.

Also its easier to take the coral from inside and then break it up and reform it into a cohesive force, than actualy try to fight them or having to buy their assistance against potential realm military aid in wavecrest, only to be outbidded by the realm..
>>
Rolled 2

>>31471004
...what? No, they're definitely not. Coral detests the Lintha because they're the worst possible competition to their privateers and NOBODY allies with the Lintha, and Skullstone is way too far away to be the Abyssals targeting Tianna. Hell, even Tianna's pirates are freelancers, because Tianna pays their tithe to keep the privateers off their back.

Coral is, if anything, actively the least-antagonistic party to Tianna.

What the fuck are you talking about, dude?

No, they really don't. Their entire culture and infrastructure is built around trade and privateers. You spend an enjoyable half a hour with your future wife, wishing it could be longer. But, in the end, you have to leave the bed and move to the wardrobe room, where with her and Regis' help you get ready for your dance. The butler has helpfully brought Tia over as well.

You were worried she might have been drunk as hell by now, but apparently she holds alcohol magnificently.
...actually, knowing her, she could probably drink under the table all of the Three Rivers tribes and walk out of it only a bit tipsy.

"...so what did those two barbarians want with you, Tia?" you ask her. "I thought they were here in Tianna on some kind of official mission or something, but all they did was stay with you and drink a lot."

"They were pretty noisy, too." Amata mentions. "Well, at least until they passed out."

"Oh, they wanted to know if I really intend to leave the Three Rivers."

"What did you answer?"

"Yes. Then they said that they want to stay with me."

You and Amata exchange glances, wondering what sort of tribe would be one willing to stick with Tia like that.

"I thought you weren't interested in the barbarian tribes of the north." Amata remembers.

"I didn't spend much time with them." she replies. "I don't hate them or anything, I just didn't care much. But a tribe, after the battle, decided to come with me. They asked me to be their chieftan."

Tell Tia to lay it out honestly to them. That if they follow her, they'll likely have to change their practices and beliefs. If they still want to, then OK. Then go to Amata and ask if we can gradually incorporate the Tribesmen values of self-reliance and hard work into Tianna.
>>
You think about it for a moment.

"...I think you're not giving yourself enough credit, Tia. I think you can be a good chieftan for them. And, if you don't know how to... You can learn."

She doesn't reply, but you can tell she accepted your answer and will ponder it later.

While both of your future spouses are cheerfully applying the oil on your skin (maybe a bit TOO cheerfully), Amata, apparently feeling a bit moody, sighs: "Sometimes I really envy you, Maka".

"Why?" Tia asks back. "I mean, they're not as huge, but you've got a very nice pair yourself-"

"...I didn't mean that." she frowns. "You're so sure of yourself, so honest. I mean, the Exaltation really brought that up, but even before... You were always like this." she looks at her toes, momentarily depressed.

"...what's wrong?" you ask.

"I'm wondering... Do I really deserve to be as happy as you're making me? I'm a bad person."

"You're not." you reply without hesitation.

"I lie. Lying is my job. Lying, cheating, tricking and manipulating peole is how I keep together my kingdom." she looks straight in your eyes, and you see a flicker in hers. They well up, full with tears. "...I've lied to my kids, too. Even to you."

You gently put your finger on her lips.

"...Do you love me?" You whisper to her.

She nods.

"Do I need to know anything other than that right now?"

She shakes her head.

You remove the finger and kiss her, sliding your body against her. Your oiled skin slips and slides on her effortlessly.

"You have a more public performance in a few minutes, Maka." Regis, helpful as always, suggests.

You cut it short with a second kiss before parting ways. "We'll pick up from here later."

You and Tia quickly finish getting prepared and head out in the castle courtyard.

The preparations have been carried out here: there are dancers, musicians, torch-jugglers and flag-wavers, and Dancing Smoke is the centerpiece of the show, riding on a large, ornate palanquin, open on all sides, sitting on a throne of etched volcanic rock. The palanquin, lined with bracers, is actually more like a cart, riding on four large wheels, although it's built to keep them concealed so that the people pushing them rather look like they're actually lifting it.

Or, to be more precise, it's more about "controlling" it than actual pushing, since the road you'll be doing is a light descending slope from the plaza in front of the palace, down Main Street, all the way to the docks and southern city gates.

The surface of the palanquin comes with a large pedestal surrounded by low torches, in front of the throne, where your dance is meant to take place. Seizing it up at a glance, you notice it's a bit smaller than you expected. You're not going to have problems, but Tia might want to take it slow.

"Nervous?" You ask her, trying to project confidence. You're amazed you're able to do that, being covered in oil and jewelry and nothing but the most minimalist and least covering bikini your and Tia's combined lewd imaginations could conjure. But, oddly enough, you feel pumped and ready to go. Must be all the practice you did. Or the kiss.

"...A bit. It's small."

"I'll catch you if you trip or lose balance." You reassure her. "Don't worry about missing steps or messing up. No one will mind. Your footing is-" You blink a couple times, staring at her feet. You hadn't paid attention, or maybe just plain didn't notice up to now, but... "...why are you wearing your high-heeled boots? I mean, they're classy, but for this dance, they're not really..."

"...What high-heeled boots?" She asks back.

You shrug. Must've been your imagination. It's been running wild lately.

"Her Highness wants you to do your speech right before the dance, but not from Dancing Smoke's palanquin." Millian's voice startles you a moment a she emerges from the crowd of people doing the final pre-show checks.

"Oh." You had forgotten about making a speech in front of the entire city. For a moment, you wonder if you've been premature to change in this bikini. Should you hold the speech in this, or get changed real quick?

It's not just a bikini anymore. As soon as we put it on and oiled up, it became ceremonial garb for Dancing Smoke's future priestesses (and possibly priests). She has no official cult, so we're making the rules as we go.

Remember, this is a setting in which 'puritanism' and replicas thereof has never existed. They are as open-minded about the body as the ancient greeks, assyrians, and maori tribes. We've got this.

[INSPIRED PERFORMANCE STYLE] [Essence: 3/5]

Social + Zenith + IPS = 10 4 2 10 10 5 10 5 9 1 = 9 successes

You think about it, but quickly decide against getting changed. On one hand, it would look more dignified. But... you reason that you should aim at making the biggest impression possible the moment you show yourself. You've already been walking around town in various state of undress. Wearing more now would be seen as trying to change your image for the convenience of the moment. Plus, being a foreigner from a far away land, you can probably get away with wearing something like that in public and pass it off as a "serious", even official dress.
And finally, you don't want to ruin your other clothes, or waste too much time.

You rush out to the castle's balcony on the plaza, where Amata is waiting. You can hear the last words of her own speech to the populace as you rush up the stairs: it sounds like a well-worded but fairly innocuous and normal speech.

She's probably preparing them for your entry, you realize.

You reach the balcony and look down. The plaza is all lit up by bonfires and a large crowd is gathered. There's noise as you appear, mostly (but not only) cheers, but it falls silent as Amata introduces you: "You've gotten to know her over the last few weeks. She did much for us, and repaid our hospitality tenfold. But she never had a chance to talk directly to you. Busy as she's been. I hope that you'll all grow to love her as much as I do. People of Tianna... Maka, queen of Gem in exile, and my future spouse."

You step in front and smile waving at them, and the crowd below you instantly goes wild with a roar of approval.

Well, you made your first impression.

Make this another thank-you speech to the people of Tianna - this time thanking them directly. Despite what Amata says, WE are indebted to THEM. They took us in, SAVED us, and the only thing we're doing now is repaying their kindness. They've earned EVERYTHING we've done - as Amata said - tenfold. We are not above them, we're just serving from a position of power.

Thank them for giving us a new home. Thank them for saving us from our old life. And thank them for accepting us.

>Spend this time talking about Tianna and Amata. Also, since this is about Dancing Smoke, we DEFINITELY need to talk about her and talk her up.
Agreed. Also talk up teamwork and Tianna's strength. Word will have leaked out by now of the fight with the Abyssals. We need to downplay our role and talk about how we were just part of the effort that drove them off. Honor the soldiers and guards, praise Samiel and Irene and Amata. We have to make it clear that we're not taking center stage.
>>
Rolled 4

>>31472863
Actually, this is our public introduction to Tianna. Smoke's celebration comes immediately after, but right now the attention is exclusively on us. Not to say that we shouldn't laud our allies, of course.
>>
Once the roar has quieted down, you speak, letting the light on your forehead gently build up until it becomes noticeable.

"...I want to thank you all."

"When I came here to Tianna, I was an exile. A refugee. And I was lucky. Incredibly lucky."

"Lucky because I was taken in by incredibly kind, helpful, gentle people. I'm not just talking about the royal family: I'm talking about everyone. All of Tianna. Not everyone is as lucky as I have been."

"...I think that maybe the Unconquered Sun Exalted me to give me a way to repay your hospitality."

"Or maybe, maybe he Exalted me only after I had a chance to test your kindness and generosity. So that I could learn them by example."

You bow to the entire city. "I hope I have learned enough, and, if I haven't, I hope I will. Until then, I will stay. I'll be happy to do my best for Tianna, and I'll be even happier if you all could - now, or in one year, or ten, or however many it will take - accept me as one of your own, even though I was born in a distant land."

You bow again, and step back, once again drowned by a deafening roar.

MRP would be for a prayer directed at a specific entity, considering its text. Read a lot, write a lot.
Everyone is born with about 10000 shitty words inside of him. The sooner you get them out on paper, the sooner you can get to the ones that MIGHT be good.
They count only if you make others read them and they laugh at you and make you wish you could dig a hole and bury yourself in it.
