After the third cold tea in the day, enhanced with a couple of biscuits, you feel a bit better.

You might have found ways to increase your physical endurance, but it apparently doesn't enhance your mental focus, and the while day has been almost nothing but non-stop meeting people.

Which is something you normally enjoy, sure, but all of those meetings ended up being stressful in one way or another.

...Except Pyre Spark, maybe. You concede yourself a smile reminiscing about the priestess.

You glance outside the window: the sun, after passing through the highest point of its orbit, is slowly falling back down towards the western sea.

As you put your tea cup back down on Millian's tray, she maid asks: "Should I bring the last guest in, miss Maka?"

"The wandering martial artist, right?" He was introduced to you as such.

>Show him in.
>I'll meet him later this evening.
>I'll meet him tomorrow.
>I'm not going to meet him.
>Actually, Millian, I need you to (what?)

>Who are we?
Maka, an exiled noble recently Exalted as a Zenith-caste Solar. She's in the western city of Tianna as a guest of queen Amata (DB), an old friend. Abyssals are targeting the city for conquest, Lintha pirates have infiltrated it with spies and agents, and the Realm is probably planning to get rid of you. Enjoy.

>Solar? Zenith? I don't know Exalted...
This quest is as newbie-friendly as possible, and I want it to work as a newbie's intro to Exalted. If you have ANY question, ask in thread. For the setting, google "1d4chan exalted".

>Archive?
http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=zenith

>System?
Dicepool-like system. When performing an action, everyone rolls 1d10 when posting. the first X rolls are considered, where X is equal to attribute + ability. Yes, this means that the more people are posting, the stronger Maka is, up to a limit of her attribute + ability.

>XP?
Attributes cost [current score x5] xp. Abilities cost [current score x3] xp, except Zenith costing [(current score x3) -1]. Charms cost 10 xp, except for Zenith-based charms (related to charisma and physical/mental fortitude) which cost 8 xp. At the end of every "session" (thread) you will be presented with a list of possible acquisitions.

>Twitter?
@exaltedfag

Also, I just noticed i forgot to Twitter the last thread. Sometimes I just forget, sorry... I'm not a habitual Twitter user and I have to remind myself every time.

The man who is allowed in by Millian is the kind of person who doesn't really need to introduce himself as a "martial artist": shirtless from the waist up except for bandaging on his upper arms and hands, loose trousers, barefoot, and with the short, messy hair of someone who must have shaven it clean not too long ago. A number of leather bags hang from his belt.

He looks tough. Muscular, but without the burly mass of strongmen and weight-lifters that signifies strength without agility. And he has an especially hard stare, that he directs immediately at you. He lightly bows, then takes one step into he room, crossing the door threshold.

Millian closes the door behind him as the martial artist just stands there.

"What can I help you with...?" You ask him, a bit puzzled by his behavior.

Without saying a word, the man shift to a fighting posture, lowering his center of balance and closing his fists.

Physical + Dawn = 2 7 9 2 2 9 = 3 successes

You drop in a defensive stance, shifting your weight as well and raising your arms to protect yourself.

The man seems satisfied. A smile passes on his face.

Then he moves in, with a flash-quick step and a low sweep, aimed at your right foot.

You step back and avoid him barely in time, and then immediately move to the counterattack. He parries your first blow, a straight jab at his chest, and turns the parry into a hold, keeping your arm blocked.

He pulls you to him and tries to slam his knee in your stomach, but you block him with your own free hand.

You stand like this, locked into each other's parries, for a second, then you simultaneously both release the other and take a short leap back.

You take a moment to consider your opponent: he's strong and fast, but he's also extremely skilled, with an experience and a formal training in martial arts that easily exceeds your own. Each of his movements is lightning-fast and precise, probably rehearsed and practiced a million times.

On the other hand, you're besting him in physical strength and agility, but not by much. He's about on par with you, for now.

Of course, you still haven't started using Essence.

After a few seconds of staring at each other's stance and analyzing it for weak points, he moves, exploding in a flying kick rising from the ground up.

You put up a parry barely in time. Despite the lack of a running start, the man manages to hit hard, and almost knocks you off-balance. You grab his foot and try and twist it, but he knees you in the elbow just one split-second before, and slips from your grasp, flowing inside your guard.

Acting on instinct and feeling the wall not too far behind you, realizing that you can't back up, you drop your guard entirely and lunge at his head.

You both come to a stop. Your left fist is on his right temple. His right fist is on your stomach. A draw.

He steps back and bows politely. "I am Running Swallow, from the Five Fangs Dojo."

You bow back at him. "And why did you want to test me?"

You hear Tia sitting back down. You hadn't noticed she stood up during the fight.

"I wanted to know your strength."

"I didn't fight at my full strength."

"I realized." He says.

"...so." You also sit back down. "Now that you know, what do you intend to do, Running Swallow?"

"Will you allow me to follow you?" He asks.

"...why?"

"There is obviously war and struggle in your future. Yet, the people of this town seem to have grown to love you and your deeds. On one hand, I wish to test my abilities even further, to become a worthy successor to the Five Fangs Dojo. On the other, I want to learn if that love is well-placed or misplaced." He explains. You scratch your chin pensively. "What can you tell me about this dojo?"

"It's one of the most prestigious dojos of the Wavecrest Archipelago. It was established in RY 522, and teaches a variant of Five Dragons Style. The current master of the Dojo is my uncle."

So he's not in the traditional line of succession, and has a chance to inherit the dojo and title only if he can prove himself better than whatever heirs the main line of the family has, you realize.

"Does it have a branch in Tianna, too?" You ask him.

"No."

He nods.

You crack your neck. "Bored yet, Tia?"

"You have NO IDEA." She looks that way, yes.

Regis opens the door. "We're out of guests. What now?"

"What time is it?"

"About five." The window looks like it still has a few more hours of daylight left. It's a bit late to leave Tianna now: it would be probably best to do it in the morning tomorrow.

After getting your things in order, you head down to the docks, where your ships, the Bloodshark, Fell-Star and Black Eye.

But first.

You pop your head in Irene's room. She's in her pajamas, evidently at the tail end of an afternoon nap. Her normally-girly bedroom is cluttered with books, large sheets of paper full of hand-drawn technical diagrams, an open toolbox with the contents scattered all over the floor, and bits and pieces of some kind of mechanical thingamajig that lies half-disassembled on the carpet.

"...Hweh?" She mumbles, slowly opening an eye. She was probably already sort-of-awake, if the noise of you opening the door was enough to rouse her.

"Am I disturbing you?" You ask, wondering exactly what sort of schedule she is operating on.

She sits up, yawns, and stretches. Then, yawning again: "Ho."

She probably meant "no". Without saying a word, you hear Millian and Regis quietly walking away, to fetch some 5 PM breakfast for the princess.

You walk in, and are about to sit on the chair when you notice that a paper sheet with a diagram is laid on it, like an improvised table, and several small pieces are laid out on the diagram, apparently as a reminder of in what order to assemble a part. There is almost no free surface in the room, and even walking without stepping on something sharp and painful is a difficult feat. You instead reach the bed and sit beside her.

"So, you never told me how things went while I was away."

"Well..." Another yawn. "I managed to increase the motonic charge on our Lightning Ballistas by about point one, and managed to scrounge other materials for Essence cartridges. Oh, I think I've found a way to make them without aluminum, which is frankly a pain to refine, even in very small amounts."

You nod, pretending you understood any of that. "...Any problems? Of a non-technical nature?"

(I don't have a pic for Irene in pajamas, sorry)

She thinks about it a bit. "Eh. Guards spotting a suspicious man that might be that abyssal, Soaring Crimson Phoenix. Can't catch him, no idea what he wants. Been a few days he doesn't show up anymore. In fact, since you came back."

"Wonder if there's a connection." You consider.

"Apart for that, nothing. Spotted some Lintha ships around. They don't get too near because they know that with our Essence artillery we can hit them from the harbor, so they stay out of range, but it means that our fleet can only operate near the coast."

"I wanted to go and check down at the docks later, in fact."

She drops back on the pillow. Now completely awake, fortunately.

"So, will I have to call you "mom" too?" She asks, you're not sure if joking.

I wouldn't say so.

All of that is connected to just Intelligence/Lore stats.

In a sense you're right, since it's a lot less likely that a DB will live to essence 8+ vis a vis a celestial (for any number of reasons, many of them violent).

Solars get better crafting charms, but aside from the glass ceiling and charm difference, there isn't much different.

Not as strict as mom though." She smiles. "...He had a long illness. Had to live indoors for a long time. Passed away about thirty years ago. It was quiet, small funeral. He wanted mom not to make a big deal about it. There's a rumor that he faked his death and is still alive... Mom decided to keep that rumor alive. I think she believes it could come in useful sometime."

"Your mom is amazing. She can use even something like this..."

"Don't think stuff like "she's so cold". She loved him. It's... He would have been okay with this. I know."

"I didn't say that." You think about that date. "Wait. Thirty years?" First of all that would make Irene older than you, which... you kind of suspected, but there's something else. "...Isn't Samiel eighteen?"

She nods. "We... I don't know who his real father is. Maybe only mom does."

"You never asked?"

"Mom keeps secrets." She says, as a matter-of-fact. "Even from us. We... trust her it's for the best. It can be hard sometimes, but I know she loves us."

Millian returns, bringing a tray with coffee and pastries. Like the good maid she is, she quietly disappears afterwards.

"...So, when we did..." The aroma of the coffee fills the room.

"We slept together?" She giggles. "It was good. It didn't feel wrong. Not even now that I know you'll marry mom." She frowns a bit. "But don't do again something like last night, okay?"

"Please forget that." You clench your forehead. "I... ugh. I don't know what happened."

"Everyone wants to forget the mistakes of his youth."

"Yes." You nod. "Plus, there's no guarantee that these other Solars will be good people, or will behave."

You spend some more time in idle chatter.

"What's Gem like?" Irene then asks, all of sudden. "I don't know anything about it."

"Gem is... half a world away." You lie down on the bed, staring at the ceiling. You let your memories surface. "It's dug in the side of a giant volcano. Five times larger than Dancing Smoke, maybe more. Some of it is built outside, but nearly all of it is underground. All around it, endless miles of desert. It's the only sign of civilization for weeks of travel in all directions. There are only three seasons: hot, boiling hot, and burning. And yet it's one of the largest metropolis in Creation."

"Why?" She asks.

"It wasn't named on a whim." You smile. "It sits on a fantastically, enormously, almost stupidly rich deposit of gems. All kinds of gems. I think... I think that, while I was queen, I could be counted as one of the richest individuals in Creation. Maybe second to the Empress. Maybe someone in the Guild is around there too." You turn to her. "And that's why Gem has been changing royal houses and reigning families like crazy over the course of its history. It's just... too rich."

"How did you get to be the queen of such a crazy place, Maka?"

Except for items which require Celestial or higher tier Sorcery, of course. Ultimately, that's what a Twilight really does bring to the table that other splats cannot. Sure, Twilights can craft a little faster, and a little more reliably. But the thing that other people just plain can't bring to the table is Solar Circle Sorcery, and for some (but not even remotely most) artifacts, Sorcery is essential.

"Oh, my family has been ruling Gem for about three generations. It's been... maybe one of the longest dynasties, in hindsight." You try and remember your history lessons from when you were a kid.

"You're not sure?"

"A lot of Despots do everything they can to completely erase every trace of previous rulers from memories. It's very hard to find solid facts about Gem's past."

She frowns. "Despot? What's that?"

"Oh, it's a Firetongue word. means something like "absolute ruler". Why?" She made a weird face.

"I don't think you should translate it into Seatongue. The word you used sounds... well, it has a somewhat negative meaning."

You nod. "...Amata told me the same once. That I should introduce myself as the "Queen" of Gem, rather than "Despot". Even though it's a traditional title."

"I don't know Firetongue, but in Seatongue it has a much nicer ring to it." She leaves the bed, and starts getting dressed. "So? How was it?"

"...It was nice, for me. When I was a little kid. Because I was living in a huge palace, with a lot of servants at my beck and call, and the best teachers and food and clothes."

"Your parents spoiled you?" She giggles. "That's... very much like you."

"It's hard to NOT spoil your daughter if you're the Despot of Gem. I had no idea of how life really worked at the time, but now that I can think back about it, we were living so much in the lap of luxury that I kind of feel a bit ashamed by it right now."

"And someone else wanted it." She adds.

"The Rankar line." You nod.

"I heard that name! Remember it from some history lesson, I think. It's the name of the original founder of Gem, right?"

"Yes." You sigh. "I think. He might also have been unrelated. Like I said, it's very hard to be clear about any of this. The archives of Gem are torched to the ground every time a new line gains power, and everyone claims to have some form of legitimacy. It doesn't get much to fake one, in those conditions. Anyway, now the despot is Rankar VII."

That was definitely my thought, yes. Far too flat chested to be a woman of her family. A pretty-as-fuck dude, though? Hell, it could even be her dad.

I'm picturing her family as being a family of pretty-as-fuck, brown skinned, white-blonde haired, gem-colored-eyed folk. Probably have some kind of elemental/god of gems/precious metals centuries back - too far back for them to even have awakened essence. Enough for the crazy colors, though.

"Technically, the Despot is an absolute ruler. His word is law, plain and simple."

"And in practice?" She asks. You notice that the thing that is disassembled all over the room is part of the internal machinery inside her lance-like weapon.

"In practice, there are several noble families who wield a lot of power and influence, and a Despot can't rule Gem for long without their support. Rankar VI managed to obtain their support, I don't know how, and planned a coup d'etat."

She's not looking at you, instead focusing her eyes on the spear slowly coming back together in her hands, piece after piece. You know she's listening to you, though.

"The palace was swarmed by soldiers. My father told me to hide and run. A few servants were still loyal to us, and they helped me out. My family- my dad, mom, sister and brother - were dragged away. I don't know what happened to them. I changed my clothes, filled my pockets with money and gems and jewels, and had my servants smuggle me on a Guild caravan heading for Chiaroscuro."

"How did you get here?" The spear is back in one piece, and she inspects it carefully, then leaves it propped up against a wall, sitting back down on the bed next to you.

"My family had spent some time here in vacation, me too. I liked it here, and remembered that the queen seemed like a very kind lady and a good friend."

"Did we meet back them?" She smiles. "Probably not. I can't even begin to imagine how cute you must've looked as a little kid."

You give her a playful punch in the shoulder. "Stop that. But, no, or at least, I don't remember seeing you."

"Still, it's a good thing you came here~" She hugs you. "Now I get to have both a great second mom and a great lover."

You spend a minute or so like this. It's soothing.

"Are you going to return to Gem anytime soon?"

It's a hard call - remember it was mentioned Amata had a bunch of kids; it was just Samiel and Irene that exalted.

And given that Dragonblooded can't pop out a kid faster than once every five years without aging like fuck, Irene could be a *lot* older than we're guessing. ~30s is the absolute lower bound here.

"...Thank you, Irene. Though that's still something fairly distant in the future, for now."

"I know." She snuggles up to you. "But I want to be there with you."

You spend another minute or so like this.

"...I have to go, Irene."

"Oh." She mumbles sadly. "Won't you stay in bed with me a bit...?"

The offer is tempting and it is almost night, although... didn't she just get out of bed and get dressed? "...I'm a bit worried about my men at the docks. I should go check them."

"Oh, the MEN." She jokes. "What, you swing that way now?"

"You know which ways I swing." You give her a kiss before leaving.

Down at the docks, work is about ending as day leaves its place to night. Most of the activity is fishing vessels, given Tianna's trade opportunities are few and far between, but a considerable part of the harbor is taken by the navy. You see your three ships moored next to Tianna's two large triremes and fleet of smaller shore patrol vessels.

The crews seem to be leaving the area and heading for the first place where a seaman heads as soon as he's free: the closest pub, alehouse, or brothel. You intercept Iohannes Quint on the street, in fact.

"Oh, boss." By now, all your seamen have started calling you like this. You're not sure if you should say something about that. "Fancy meeting you here."

"Hey, Quint." You greet him back. "How are things going with Rajan?"

"He complains a lot." He smiles tiredly. "That our men are sloppy and undisciplined. Morale's kinda low, they weren't expecting this. They weren't expecting to end up as a real navy. But the loot we made under you, plus the fact that he gave the men their first pay right away, is keeping their spirits high. There's not much talk of leaving or walking out of this, which was my fear."

You nod.

"Besides, guy stood up to the Lintha and lived. That commands a lot of respect. He's not some landlubber scrub that expects to be in charge because he's an Exalted." Short pause. "No offense."

(cont.)
>>
"None taken." You reply. That came out wrong, but you get what he means. That's precisely why you didn't want to take charge directly when your men were at sea. "So, you think Rajan is a good officer?"

"Well, he's got a few screws loose."

"I didn't ask you that." You reply with a smile.

After a short pause: "...Yes. I think he knows his way around a ship, and around men at sea, better than most I know. I don't think he's gonna earn any love from the men, but give him time and he'll have their respect. Unless he really screws up."

"Where is he, anyway?"

"Inspecting the Fell-Eye." He points at the ship. "So, boss." He then points at a nearby establishment. "Booze? I think the other officers are there already."

Like last time, your appearance draws a lot of attention. Mostly, people staring at you but trying to not do noticed doing so (badly).

Mental + Night = 8 4 2 4 = 1 success

You spend the next hour or so making small talk and drinking with your officers. They also teach you a few Western card games, and of course try their best to clean your pockets for more booze money.

You lose a lot at first, but make a comeback with a bit of luck and once you've learned the rules and the flow of the game better, and close more or less even.

They seem to share Quint's opinion on Rajan: going from a free life of piracy to one of regimented navy is hard. It's not unbearable or intolerable, but it's hard and will cause some stress among the men used to a different style of command and different responsibilities.

Still, Rajan seems to be competent enough, or at least they all think so.

I hear there is some discomfort with the crews. What would it take to make them happy with the current arrangement?

Also: The crews have seen what I've done with Regis. If any of them would like me to do the same with them, or would like to train in Martial Arts, I can arrange it in a week or so.

Also we need to speak to Rajan about the tactics of using pirates and their vessels. It's just like in land warfare. There's the bulk-army, the big units of soldiers that move slowly and hit hard. And there's the skirmishers who flank the enemy and weaken them. That's what our pirate crews need to be. They'll never stand toe-to-toe with a Lintha fleet, but they can harass them into exhaustion.

"We've had some naval engineers check them and see what improvements can be made. Rajan wants to mount a few hardpoints for Essence weapons, even though we don't have authorization to embark them yet." Quint explains.

Rubeni nods. "We'll also have to train some of our men to use them when that happens. ...It feels so weird to actually discuss the eventuality of having such a powerful weapon onboard. I never thought it'd happen."

The card games continue and the alcohol flows freely. Before you realize, it's night.

Walk alone into a dark alley, wait five minutes, then say in a well-moderated voice. "You might as well come out and talk." We don't KNOW that someone is following us. But someone tried to shoot us with an arrow the other day, the Abyssal has been stalking around town without killing anyone (very unusual) and is very interested in us. The odds of someone NOT spying on us are pretty dismal. If there's nobody there, we feel a little silly for a minute. If there IS someone there we trick them into thinking that we're better at spotting them than we really are and get them to reveal themselves.

If nothing happens after 5 minutes, then we should go to the poorest part of town and look for an orphanage or a wrecked building being used as shelter by the poor. We're a Priestess of a god who defines himself partially by Perfect Compassion. If we're going to win over the populace, we need to start at the bottom, helping those in need.

As you leave the pub and head back to the castle, you reflect on the fact that if there's one thing Exaltation has made worse, it's alcohol. Your tolerance seems to have gone up by a lot. You must've made the owner's fortune for tonight before realizing it.

Perhaps motivated by whatever little effect the alcohol had on you, you head into a dark alley and try something.

"You might as well come out and talk." You say, to the darkness around you. You might be followed, and if you aren't, hey, no harm done, right?

"No." you interrupt them.

"But..."

"No." You repeat, turning and leaving.

Man. You don't really know if Solar Exaltation extends your lifespan like it does with the Dragon-Blooded, but you hope you'll be able to someday live in a world where everyone has forgotten that night.

You head back to the castle. It's night, but you're not tired, and that's a good thing because you have a lot of stuff on your mind. Samiel, Zareen, Swallow, Millian...

You decide to start with Samiel. At this time, he should be in his bedroom. Maybe he hasn't fallen asleep yet.

You stop by his room, finding...

Dancing Smoke sitting on the ground, just out of it, looking sullen, hugging her knees, her tail whipping angrily left and right.

Samiel's bedroom's door has a large sheet of paper nailed over it. It's covered in an elaborate magic circle surrounded by Old Realm glyphs.

"I MEANT that she's not leaving me ONE MINUTE alone." Samiel's muffled voice echoes from inside the room.

"OF COURSE not!" Is her reply.

"Wait, so are you two officially a couple now?" You wonder, pointing alternatively to her and the door.

Her reply is a solid and instantaneous "YES!". Samiel doesn't reply.

"So what's the problem exactly?" You ask.

"I NEED TO SLEEP."

"We can sleep together~"

"YOU'RE NOT GOING TO LET ME SLEEP ARE YOU."

How would you feel if another mountain god came along and ripped away half your Volcano, carved it to look like themselves, built an un-burnable tower of obsidian on it and then walked away and never talked to you again? Because that's what someone did to Samiel. And he's scared that you'll do the same to him. That's why I wanted him to be in control of us when we were all together. Let's see if we can compromise here. Smoke, Samiel is an Exalt, but much of him is still human. He needs sleep. Humans without sleep and food are like gods without prayers and essence. They get weak and die. So you're going to have to learn to give Samiel time to rest. And Samiel, you have to realize that Smoke has been alone for a very long time. She lost her original volcano, her home, most of her power, and a literal part of her mind and soul. But she wants to build something new. With you. She needs you. So there needs to be more talking from both of you. Less wards, less temper tantrums, and more calm talking."

It's not just Smoke. Most gods, especially elemental and nature gods, just don't understand humans. At all. They're completely alien to them. They don't understand the need for 'sleep', or 'society', or 'personal space'. That's an important part of being a Zenith (and to a lesser extent an Immaculate or Sidereal). Making sure gods play nice with mortals. Which in this case means being their relationship Councillor.

"Alright, calm down now, both of you." You shut up the discussion, before kneeling down next to Smoke.

"...Listen, Smoke. I know you've been very lonely and you're happy you found in Samiel someone who enjoys spending time with you." You can almost HEAR him being embarrassed about that remark from beyond the door. "But Samiel is human, he needs his sleep, his rest, his breaks and free time... even from you. He has duties, responsibilities he must attend to, and be fresh for."

"EXACTLY."

She looks up to you, probably a bit confused, probably not understanding completely what you mean. "Knowing when to leave the other alone is also a part of love. You need to learn that."

"But... I have nothing else to do..."

"What did you do before we met."

"Nothing." She replies.

"...Nothing?"

"Well... sometimes I went to spend some time with the other gods nearby, but none of them wanted to deal with me for long. Yaraon was the most patient with me. But other than that..."

"...It's not healthy to just latch to one person, Smoke. You need to understand this. You should meet other people. Make more friends."

"How do I make friends?"

You resist the temptation to facepalm. "You meet new people and spend some time with them. Other than that, you have to learn how to make friends yourself."

"I... see." She thinks about it.

"And you should really try sleeping with Samiel, or anyone else, without sex. It feels just as nice, just in a different way."

"Eeeh." She sounds like she doesn't really believe you.

"Because seriously, sometimes I'm kind of worried that you might be one step removed from a serial rapist, Smoke."

She blinks and looks at you, evidently not getting your point.

"You need to learn AFFECTION. And no one can teach you that. You have to discover it yourself."
You help her stand up. "But you can spend the night with me, if you're lonely."

"No, I..." She hesitates, then takes one step towards the door and holds a hand out. A small discharge of Essence, like a miniature thunderbolt, flashes out of the paper and hits her fingers, and she winces back. "Hey, Samiel...?"

"...What?"

"If I let you sleep, if I promise not to bother you unless you want... will you let me in?"

"..."

"...please?"

"...If you do ANYTHING I'm going to get mad."

She lights up. "I promise!"

"And tomorrow you'll have to leave me alone the entire day. You'll have to find something else to do. Make some friends, like Maka says."

"Yes! I will."

"And... even if you don't sleep, at least pretend you do."

"Okay!"

"Without snoring."

"Absolutely."

Well, looks like you defused the situation here. Samiel, in his pajamas already, opens the door and lets her in like a dog. Considering Smoke has a tail, and she is waggling it, the comparison is oddly apt.

"Thanks for the help." Samiel winks at you and whispers.

"It's been a pleasure. It kind of is my job too." You wave at him while leaving.

Returning to your bedroom, you find the lanterns lit and Tia and Regis sitting with Millian at the desk... Is that a children's first reading book?

"Regis, come on. Your "de" look sloppy as hell. Write twenty more." She lifts her head fron the books and papers and calligraphy brushes. "Oh! Miss Maka. Welcome back."

"Did I interrupt something?" You wonder.

"Not at all, Tia wanted just to wait for your return, so I figured we might as well be doing something productive." She smiles, gathering the supplies. "Come on Regis, let's leave.

"Uh, yes." He picks up his writing exercises, evidently not wanting you to see them, and leaves you two alone.

"I thought you knew how to read and write." You say Tia.

"...Not Seatongue." She points out. "Are we done for the day?"

"Almost." You smile. "There's the night."

"After yesterday, you want to have something a bit more intimate?" She grins.

"Very intimate." You remove your tabard with a swift motion and throw yourself on the bed.

"I understand." She blows the lantern off, dropping the room into darkness. "It's been a stressful day for you, Maka." As she softly approaches, her footstep almost perfectly silent, the darkness is slowly lit by the tattoos on her skin, slowly becoming brighter as she becomes closer and closer and her clothes are dropped on the floor along the way. "...Let me take care of you for tonight, then..."

You repack all your stuff (which isn't much) on your small wagon, and contact Zareen and, after thinking about it for a bit, also Running Swallow. Unsure as to what you should wear, you decide on the tabard, but you bring your corset along just in case.

You briefly explain to the dragon-blooded and the martial artist the reason for your trip and the destination. After that, you go and consult with Amata (who is still having breakfast) for your sacrifice to Yaraon, but she replies with: "Oh, don't worry about it. I'll take care of it myself. I've long meant to meet him in person, besides."

"I see. Well, take care. Mikahil should return tomorrow, right?"

"Somewhere around tomorrow and the day after, yes." She nods. "I'm sure he'll want to meet you."

"Oh, I don't plan to stay in the west for long."

"Actually, I was thinking that we could come and see your little kingdom." She smiles.

"There isn't much of a kingdom right now."

"Still, I'm a bit curious. Would that be alright?"
