You are ALICE. You were once a magical girl, but have now ended up having to hunt down your former comrades. As a member of the Magical Girl Hunter Bureau, it is your job to defend humanity from the Magical Menace!

You are currently on the Magical Girl held island of Atlantis, so named by some pretentious rich guy you've never met. Anyways, you and Carol were inserted as a two girl infiltration team in order to penetrate the island's defenses and destroy the focus powering the Circle protecting the island. That way, the UN could call in the big guns to bombard the island and all the Magical Girls, their followers, and the Companions into dust.

Hopefully you and Carol would be off the island by then, as well.

However, the first thing was getting to the damn focus. From Kanako's intel, it was being kept in an underground facility under the island's central volcano. Kanako assured you that it was long dormant, but you knew enough about supervillain lairs to know it would probably erupt on you just to spite you.

You take stock of your gear again. In addition to your standard survival gear, you had a specialized gauss carbine, an active camo cloak, and the Nikita drone launcher.

"That stuff looks pretty heavy, Mom." Carol frowns as she watches you weave your way through the trees. "Are you sure you don't want me to help out a bit?"

Well, while the weight wasn't that big of a deal, it could potentially become troublesome if you had to move quickly. However, that would also be wasting Carol's shapshifting capabilities, which would make her indispensable as a recon asset.

"Thanks for asking, but I"m fine." You smile. "I need you to scout the area ahead of us. Can you do that?"

"Sure!" Carol nods and begins morphing into a canine form before bounding off into the forest. You had to admit, there were a lot of perks to having a shapeshifting alien hybrid on your side.

While you were tempted to active your active camo cloak, you resist the urge. The cloak needed battery power to function and you had no idea how long you were going to be stuck on this island. You needed to conserve as much energy as possible. Either way, the thick foliage in this forest provided more than enough concealment.

You barely walk for a kilometer before you see Carol bounding back.

"Carol? Is something wrong?" You ask.

"There's a town just up ahead!" She reports. "About... ummm... a kilometer away? Maybe less?"

A town? Your first instinct was to avoid it, but part of your mission here was also recon. Maybe it would be worth checking out...

Our primary focus is to get to the Focus; besides, Carol might get detected because of her Invader DNA.
>>
>>31610064
Okay, now you were a little bit curious. Apart from those covens you'd help raid from time to time, you've never actually seen what a MG cult actually looked like. The majority tended to be pretty similar to those ultra conservative nutjobs that lived out in the middle of nowhere. You wonder what things would be like on this island.

"Carol, show me where it is." You say.

"Sure thing!" Carol nods and bounds off into the trees again, this time slowing her pace enough so you can keep up with her.

Finally, you reach the edge of the forest, which ends in a large meadow about two hundred meters in length before meeting with the edge of a small town, just as Carol had reported. It looked to have been set up rather quickly, with many temporary and hastily erected structures.

Within and on the edges of the town, you could also see human activity. You grab your binoculars and gaze through them to get a better look. There didn't seem to be anything too out of the ordinary. Adults were going about their daily routines, while children played. However, there was one thing you noticed, and slightly unnerved you.

The total absence of men.

Well, not TOTALLY absent, as you could spot a couple here and there, but from what you could see, the population of this town was predominantly female. Hell, even among the children, there was a heavy slant towards girls.

Not wanting to think about this any further, you return your attention to the town itself. You see a long, paved road cutting through the forest and moving through the town. The continued on towards the central volcano. You also see quite a number of trucks parked on the road inside the town. Your best guess was that this was one of the main supply routes. The MGs would smuggle supplies to the shore, where they would be shipped to the central base on roads such as these.

Maybe... maybe there was something in the town that could help you get in.

You check the sky, and then your watch. At your best guess, it should be dark in a few hours. It would be safer to move around the town then.

"Carol, we'll wait until it gets dark." You whisper to her. "I'm gonna grab some sleep while I can. Keep an eye out for me, okay?"

"Okay!" Carol nods.

Draping the camo cloak over you like a makeshift blanket. you settle up against a tree and close your eyes...

"I see you're actually going through with it." Loki chuckles.

Goddamnit.

"I thought you didn't need me to be asleep to talk anymore." You grumble.

"Yes, well, no sense in distracting you during such an important mission, correct? I was just being considerate."

Considerate. Yeah right.

"What do you want?" You sigh.

"I'm just wondering. You're mission here is to destroy the Focus so that your friends can destroy the island, correct?"

"Well, yeah."

"What if I told you that this would most likely result in the death of not just your entire species, but the planet, as well?" Loki curls up in your lap.

"I'd say you were a lying shit." You grab Loki by the back of his neck and lift him up. "Even when put together, the MGs don't have power of that kind of scale."

"Did I ever say the destruction would be at the hands of the Magical Girls?" Loki smiles smugly. Fucking cat.

"So there IS something between you and the Invaders, then." You scowl.

"Well, against me and my brothers in general, yes." Loki chuckles. "I just wanted to know. Confronted with this knowledge, would you still carry out your mission?"

"You're one real fucking piece of work, you know that, Loki?" You frown. "It must be nice, knowing everything, and only giving me half stories and springing up these little hypotheticals on me at the worst possible time."

"I would have thought you'd have figured thing out by now." Loki continues, unphased. "Perhaps I miscalculated on that part. I'm not perfect, after all."

"Obviously." You scoff.

"How about this." Loki shakes himself out of your grip and drops back down to the ground, where he begins pacing. " HYPOTHETICALLY, what if I told you that what my brothers are planning is a contingency plan in case their original recruitment plan failed?"

"Well, you'd come back to take over the planet, right?"

"Well not exactly. More of an evacuation plan. You see, the planned attack on your race was motivated by hate or anything. More like... denial."

Suddenly, the realization dawns on you.

"You just want to get the hell off this rock before the Invaders evolve to a point where we can't stop them."

"Well, my brothers, yes." Loki nods. "While I commend the rapid pace at which your race can adapt to extremely hazardous conditions and situations, I doubt it would be enough once the Invaders unleash their full wrath on this planet."

"And what, you're just going to leave a valuable recruiting world like ours to die?"

(cont)
>>
>>31611466

"You must understand, to us, there's a large difference between a 'recruiting' world and a strategically valuable one. Once we've acquired a significant enough breeding stock, we have no more use for the recruiting world. My brothers' plan guarantees at least some part of your race survives. Your current one probably will not."

"Why are you telling me this?" You ask, seething with rage. "Why the fuck are you putting this all on my hands? What do you have to gain!?"

"My interest has always been in you, Alice. It would be a shame for the Invaders to consume you and steal all my work." Loki responds. "If you could come into contact with my brothers, I can convince to make... allowances for you. Not only would you be allowed to leave the planet, but your friends, as well. Think about it, Alice. If you had a guaranteed chance at survival, would you take it?"

"You're not lying about this, are you?" You whisper.

"I'm in fact being very serious right now." Loki nods. "What would your answer be?"

The war between the Companions and Invaders is raging throughout the galaxy. The Earth is much like a farm on a battlefield, full of supplies which the Companions are raiding to bolster their forces.

The Companions are planning to call an artillery strike on that farm in order to deny its produce to the enemy. They already have as much as they can carry.

"I'd rather go down fighting than turn tail and run." You say. While you were tempted for a brief second of leaving this place with the others you knew that they'd never accept it. You've all fought too hard and lost too much to even considering going back. "This whole island is going down, whether you want it or not."

And at this, Loki begins to laugh. Not just that smug laughter he was so good at doing, but genuine, amusing laughter, akin to a mad scientist.

"Excellent! Excellent! I expected you to choose the harder road, Alice! Now we can see if you and your species could do what no other one could achieve!"

"...what?" You blink.

"The conflict that arises from every species' struggle for survival tends to be the perfect catalyst for change!" Loki cackles. "My brothers have long grown complacent, too embroiled in the roles they have adopted. They merely follow the directives they were given, without thought or reason. You and your species have thrown off the yoke of your oppressors, and I want to see if you have the strength to resist a second one!"

"You are one fucking crazy cat." You blink.

"Why, thank you." Loki smiles.

"And since you apparently know oh so much about the Invaders, you mind spilling the beans, then?" You ask.

"In due time." Loki stretches and yawns. "You still have a mission to complete, don't you?"

"What? Why?"

"You were mumbling things your sleep. Not anything coherent, but you did look distressed."

"...it was nothing." You say. "Just a bad dream."

You decide to head for the town center. From how organized things seemed to be here, you might able to find something useful in the town's civic records. You couldn't run a society without some sort of bureaucracy, after all.

"Carol, what did you observe while I was asleep?" You ask.

"Nothing much. The adults just went to work loading and unloading things in the truck, and then went home after it got dark." Carol shrugs.

"Any opposition?"

"Well, their equivalent of policemen, I guess." Carol says. "Not heavily armed, and they look more to be volunteers than actual trained guards. I don't think they're really expecting anybody to be out here."

Well, that was good. Less things to worry about, though you couldn't rule out the fact of somebody getting lucky.

You manage to cross the field without being seen. You then dart between the buildings and alleyways, but don't come across anybody. Taking a closer look around you, and with some of your newfound knowledge, you start to see evidence supporting Loki's story. Everything here besides the road was only temporary, with all the structures being prefabricated, and all of the utilities were local, with electricity provided by generators and water being pumped from local wells. These people were NOT here for the long haul.

Finally, you reach the town center. There are a number of different buildings here, all darkened and seemingly abandoned.

(cont)
>>
>>31612518
First, there was what seemed to be the equivalent of the town hall. It was just a very large, hastily built wooden structure. It would hold things like census reports and records of whatever passed through the town at any point.

Then there was the police "station", a small trailer with a patrol car parked in front of it. There's be weapons and gear stored in there, and hopefully more intel on the exact security situation of the island. However, a singular light illuminating one of the windows suggested there was at least one person in there.

Finally, there was what seemed to be a large radio mast. It made sense to use wireless communications if you had no plans in setting up permanent landlines. Checking out their communications logs might yield important information, not to mention cutting it off meant in the event you WERE discovered, they wouldn't be able to get word out as quickly.

You head over to the comm center, which essentially just a large trailer truck with a radio mast sticking out the back. You see the interior is lit, with two men milling about. No doubt technicians.

You pause to consider your options. You could set a remote explosive charge on the comm center as a precaution and just leave it at that. No need to enter it or anything. However, if you wanted to get any sort of intel, you'd actually have to enter the trailer, which mean having to evade or take out the two technicians.

Hmmmm, getting access to enemy comms was always a huge boon to anybody that could pull it off. The only problem was getting past these two bozos. From what you can tell, neither of them were armed, nor did they seem particularly capable in combat. Hell, you could probably take on the both of them yourself with no problem, and you've got Carol here to assist you. The problem was, eliminating these two guards was a surefire way to attract attention. Even if you did kill them and manage to hide the bodies, their disappearances would raise red flags that you could do without. Maybe you could find a way to just distract them...?

Oh wait, you had a damn shapshifter at your disposal. Maybe Carol could be ample distraction? That sort of thing was terribly risky, though. There was no guarantee she'd able to fool them or at least keep their attention for long.

Well, taking them out wasn't going to do you any favors. You would be better off distracting them.

"Carol. I need you take the form of an, um... ten year old girl? Maybe younger? Trick them into thinking you're lost. Try not to attack them or anything, but do NOT let them go back into the trailer until I say so, okay?"

"Okay!" Carol nods and begin shifting again. She takes a form that looks... a lot like a younger version of you. You're not sure whether that's deliberate or just a fluke, but you just shake it off.

Carol then jogs over into the middle of the field, in an area where anybody out there couldn't see directly into the trailer. She then starts bawling loudly.

"What the-?" You hear one of the technicians say. You see the two men pile out of the trailers to go investigate. Idiots even left the door wide open. You slip inside and get to work.

Genemods allow her to use a bone rifle as an impromptu sniper. The hole occurs between the ring and middle finger on her right hand, with a trigger in the form of the knuckle of her right index finger. This allows her to function normally, but she must replenish any lost bone and biomass by eating truly absurd amounts of food, else she loses the ability to utilize her bone rifle. Calls Jenner "mom" for no discernible reason. Calls Lillith "dad", for no discernible reason. Bubbly personality. Usually armed with a rather large, cumbersome rifle. You believe that you've gotten enough. No point risking it any further. You pack up your ill gotten intel and are about to exit when you see a light strobe on the console. You see that it's being patched through to the police station. No doubt, the technicians were trying to make a call. With the hit of key, you quickly intercept it and route the call back to the trailer.

"Ummm, hey, Larry, we've got a bit of a problem, here. We've got a lost girl out here, but she's to distressed to tell us where she's from, or even her name. Think you can help us out here?"

"Um, Larry is out for the moment." You say.

"What? Shiela, is that you?"

"Um, yeah." You can't stop yourself from grinning. Fucking amateurs. This was just so damn easy. "Look, I'll bring the car over and you just send her to me, alright?"

"Yeah, sure. We'll wait."

With that, you quickly sneak back out of the trailer and head back to the town center, You take a quick look at the police station. The policeman on duty, "Larry", seemed to be fast asleep.

Goddamn this was too easy.

After a quick lockpick and hotwire, you start up the patrol car and drive it back to the trailer. You honk your horn and flash the lights to announce your arrival. The technicians then point in your direction and Carol comes running. She instinctively knows its you at the driver's seat, and she climbs into the back. You give a honk and the two technicians wave you and head back to the trailer, where they were none the wiser.

Too damn easy, though you sort hope they wouldn't be in the trailer when you inevitably were forced to blow it up.

You decide you've wasted enough time in this town. You've got to continue on.

"Did I do good, Mom?" Carol asks as she slowly shifts back to her "default" form.

"You did real good, Carol." You grin. "You had those two guys literally eating out of your hand."

Carol just giggles at your praise and you can't help but grin. You quietly return the patrol car where you found it. However, you decide not to take anything from it. Most of it wasn't really helpful, or inferior to the gear you were already carrying. Plus, somebody might notice it was missing. You and Carol continue the rest of the way on foot, following the road to the central mountain. Unfortunately, you were pretty sure things were just going to get harder from here.

Every so often, you patch into the comm network to see what the enemy was saying. Normally, it was just patrol call ins, but at least that helped you avoid them.

Finally, you reach what looks to be a checkpoint, and directly behind it, a tunnel entrance. You had no doubts that it led to your objective. Unfortunately, unlike in the town, the security forces here were definitely not pushovers. They were in fact toting automatic weapons, body armor, and other sorts of milspec gear. No doubt hired guns.

Well, you could try to find a way to sneak through the front door. You could try hijacking a truck and driving it in, or just sneaking through a gap in the checkpoint's defense.

"Carol, have you found any alternate routes inside?" You whisper.

"Um... there's a cave that goes inside, and it's not guarded. The problem is that it's really, REALLY small.... you'd have to ditch a lot of your gear to fit inside..."

"How much gear are talking about here?" You ask.

"Um... pretty much everything you're not already wearing on you..."

Okay, your best bet was to get through the checkpoint. You really had no wish to part with your gear. Thankfully, you've got your active camo, which should help greatly. From your count, there's probably about a half dozen men manning the checkpoint. However, at this late hour, with no vehicles to process, they all looked rather tired and bored, which should work in your favor.

You flip on your active camo, and your photo-reactive fabric flickers to life, making you blend into the background.

Well, thanks to your camo cloak, you manage to sneak through the first line of defense, gingerly and quietly cutting a hole through the chain link fence bordering the checkpoint. It's all then a matter of moving very, VERY slowly so that the guards wouldn't notice you. Meanwhile, Carol keeps up with you in her canine form, her own skin forming an adaptive camo layer. Girl was good, you had to admit.

Finally, you reach the mouth of the tunnel, where two of the guards stand. You're not really confident in your ability to sneak past them, the way they're positioned. There was always the chance they might hear you or see the faint shimmer of your camo trying to adapt to the environment.

Welp it was nice knowing you, person inside that trailer.
>>
>>31616132
Maybe there was an MG in that trailer and she's going to chew their asses up.
>>
>>31616121
Fortunately, Carol's reflexes are fast enough that she manages to leap away again as they open fire. Almost immediately, the other mercs come rushing over.

"Lawrence! What the FUCK are you doing!" One of them yells.

"I-I saw something up there!" The merc says, pointing to the trailer. "Was definitely something up there!"

"Then you CALL IT IN, not shoot up the fucking place!" The other guard smack Lawrence in the head.

"Well, what do we do about this?" Another guard asks.

"Well, we've got our orders. We report everything in. They'll be asking about the gunfire anyways."

You quickly take the chance to sneak into the tunnel while all the guards are distracted. As you move in, you quietly patch into their comms.

"Command, this is Checkpoint 3."

"This is Command. We've heard reports of gunfire."

"That's correct. One of our guys saw suspicious movement. No contact."

"Roger that. We'll take it from here."

Damn. If they weren't spooked then, they probably were now. You'd have to be extra careful from now on.

"Ice Sword, this is Command, do you read me?" Your radio buzzes again.

"Yep! This is Ice! Whaddya want?" A very young feminine voice responds. This did not bode well.

"The checkpoint guards thought they say something suspicious. You think you and your girls can do a full sweep of the facility? Can't risk anything happening to the Focus."

"Roger that!"

Shiiiiiiiiiit.

You didn't have much time. You quickly jog your way down the tunnel, but you find yourself blocked by a large, sealed security door. You examine it quickly, and see it was controlled by an electronic keypad. That meant there was a code that could open it. Then again, you had Carol, who could probably brute force the door open.

Actually, now that you think about it....

"Carol." You say, handing her your radio. "I need you to make a call to Security. You heard Ice Sword's voice, right?"

"Yeah." Carol nods.

"Good, I need you to pretend to be Ice Sword. Say that you forgot the password to this security door."

"Heeeeeey, Security, this is Ice Sword. Can you give me the passcode to the security door to the Focus?" Carol says in perfect imitation.

"What? Shouldn't you know that already?" The voice at the other end asks.

"Well, it's so long and complicated! Plus you people seem to keep changing it on me! Meanies!"

Ha, pretty classic. With high security setups like these, they had to have cycling passwords, and it was guaranteed SOMEBODY was going to forget them at some point.

"Okay! Okay!" Security says apologetically. "The code for this cycle is 79583949583."

Jesus, you're not even sure YOU'D remember something like that.

"Thaaaaaank you!" Carol chimes before cutting off the radio and inputting the code.

The door locks then disengage and the thick armored slabs slowly pull themselves open, allowing you deeper into the mountain. However, you notice that eerily enough, there were no guards here. Not even maintenance staff. Everything just looked... empty.

Finally, you come up to a massive circular chamber, and at its center, a large, glowing crystal was suspended, and glowed with a soft light. That had to be what you were looking for. You jump onto the catwalk and start making your way over, when you're suddenly stopped in your tracks by a suited man.

"My, my, I was wondering when you'd be coming, Alice." Nypaver grins, clapping his hands slowly. "It seems we have a lot to talk about."

Huh, you kinda remember this guy. He was apparently the one who bankrolled this whole venture. Sold out his own species for god knows what reason.

"Sorry, but I don't." You say and pull the trigger.

However, Nypaver seems to disappear in a blur, sidestepping your shot.

"Well, I guess your reputation for the diplomatic route is just as the news says!" Nypaver chuckles, casually pulling off his tie and shrugging off his suit jacket. "It looks like we'll have to settle this the hard way."

"What... what ARE you?" You ask. "Nobody should be able to move that fast."

"Ah, but YOU can, can't you?" Nypaver grins.

But that that had to mean...

"Who said there could only be Magical GIRLS?" Nypaver smiles, and then shake his head. "Well, I USED to be magical, no thanks to you."

"No, that's impossible!" You shake your head. "There's never been a Magical Boy ever!"

"Oh, poor poor Alice." Nypaver pulls out a handgun and fires it at you. You're forced to leap over the side of the catwalk and take cover among the machinery on the ground below. "The Companions just never thought boys had the 'sufficient emotional capacity' to act as magical soldiers! Now, I think we both know somebody who's been willing to push boundaries..."

Suddenly, there's a loud roar as Carol in her battle form charges Nypaver.

"Absolutely disgusting. So you really did meddle with Invader science." His face screws up in revulsion. He fires several rounds at Carol, which bounce harmlessly off her carapace. He then turns and retreats, easily keeping ahead of Carol. With him distracted, you could easily make your way to the focus...

"FUCK!" You scowl and kneel down to deploy the Nikita launcher. It was a quad barreled launcher, so it could launch up to four drones without the need to reload, and you sure as hell did not have time for that now. With a loud WHUMP, all four drones launch and begin to circle lazily above the room.

Meanwhile, Nypaver was using his enhanced speed and agility to stay ahead of Carol, who was doing her best to catch up and hit him. Whatever he was, he was NOT a pushover.

And now the three magical girls have reached the chamber, as well. You see one had a blue sword that looked made completely out of ice. No doubt the titular Ice Sword. The other you noticed was wielding a crossbow and the other a large battle axe.

And as for the focus itself, it was pretty large ,and you weren't sure if just one drone would be enough to destroy it.

In sequence, each drone dives straight into the Focus, exploding on contact like a missile. Four explosions ripple across the crystal, causing it to crack and shatter before falling apart in countless pieces. There's a loud CRACK as the magical feedback causes a massive shockwave to rumble throughout the entire complex.

With you mission complete, you turn to see Carol trying to fight off the three Magical Girls. While she was managing to fend them off, you see her armor has been thoroughly cut up and mauled, with even several crossbow bolts sticking out in places. You also notice her wounds were regenerating much slower than usual. You begin to move to attempt to help her when you're suddenly cut off by Nypaver.

"Boy, you really put us in a really shitty situation, haven't you?" He sighs. "We're going to have to expend far more resources into fighting off the inevitable invasion-

Suddenly, you're all interrupted when the entire complex shakes again. This time more heavily. You see the rock walls crack, and in some places, collapse. More magical feedback? No, it felt completely different.

They... they couldn't already started the bombardment, have they?

You see the impact has knocked Nypaver off balance, as well.

The next ODIN strike comes down as predicted, but much more powerful than you anticipated. Literally the entire roof caves in as the chamber collapses, and you're barely able to avoid the falling debris. You lose track of Nypaver, but with any luck, he was crushed to death.

As if you've ever been lucky.

Coughing from the dust, you try to find Carol again. You rush over to where you last saw her fighting with the MGs. Of the MGs, you find no trace, but you do find Carol.

And she's not in good shape.

"Sorry, Mom. Things were a bit too much for me to handle." Carol chuckles weakly. You see her armor is basically gone, leaving her in her "default" form. And even then she looked severely beaten up.

"Come on, Carol, we need to get out of here." You say, trying to keep calm. However, you realize Carol is buried partly under all the rubble.

Goddamnit!

"The next shot is going to be happening soon... right?" Carol sighs. "You... you should run, Mom. You can still get out..."

You strain with effort, poring every ounce of strength you have, but eventually, Carol's body begins to shift ever so slightly, and a few more exertions are successful in fully extracting her from the rubble. But... Carol still looked like a mess.

"Carol, why aren't you healing?" You ask.

"Really... hungry..." Carol mutters.

You didn't have much time. You needed to get the hell out of here. However, you're not sure whether you'd be fast enough while carrying Carol. You'd already used up a lot of your stamina just trying to pull her out of the rubble.

Well.... you could always try to jump start Carol's regeneration, but you knew you really, REALLY weren't going to like what that implied.

"Carol. If you need food, take it from me." You say.

"W-what?" Carol's eyes widen.

"You heard me! Just enough to get your regeneration working!" You yell.

"But-"

"You're my daughter, Carol! What kind of Mom would I be if I didn't sacrifice everything to make you safe?!"

"O-ok!" Carol nods reluctantly. Black tendrils wrap around your left arm before tightening.

You'd like to say that the next few moments were extremely, BLINDINGLY painful, but that wouldn't even come close to describing what having your left arm devoured molecule by molecule felt like. You were just extremely goddamn glad when it finally ended.

With the deed done, Carol finally manages to stand up on her own two feet again.

"Let's go, Mom!" She yells.

"Y-yeah." You nod absentmindedly, your head still dizzy from pain.

With Carol supporting you, the both of you manage to clear the tunnel before the third ODIN strike comes in. The tunnel behind you collapses, and the rushing air and shockwave literally pushes the both of you out of the tunnel, sending you both flying in the air before hitting the ground.

And there, hovering in the air is the Daedalus. Or, at least you hope it is. You're not sure if it's some sort of hallucination from all the pain you're experiencing. You see Carol waving frantically as the craft touches down, you see Leo... and surprisingly Bruttenholm himself dashing out of the landing ramp. You feel yourself being lifted into the air before everything starts to black.

However, before you're fully absorbed by the void, you hear one last sentence.

"Everything's going to be all right, Alice."

>And that's it for tonight! Tune in next week for the next thread, as always!
