Welcome to Harem Protag Quest. You are John Galt, the sentient protagonist of a harem show. Aside from having to gather and keep your harem, you will have to deal with various other obstacles at the Cassandra College of Witches. And you just learned that one of your harem members, one of your first actually, has just told you that she is also aware of the fact that you are in a show.

But, you hadn’t really decided how to respond to this yet. Sure, it might be nice to have somebody who also knows some of the hoops you might need to jump through. But then again she might have her own agenda, even though she says she’s going through with your show.

So it’s up to you how you’re going to respond.

Interesting at least.

Anyway, parents came home and had to talk for a bit, so I'm being slow. And the entire point of that thread, responding to Kaname?

I guess I didn't make it clear that was entirely her fucking with you. She wasn't being serious and you were supposed to be able to tell.

My bad.

Playing with their feelings. She knows it's a harem anime, so she knows you can't really help it.
>>
>>31630674
“Oh thank god,” you say to her, a sense of relief flooding into you. Despite anything that might happen in the rest of the show, some part of you is very happy that you aren’t completely alone in the world, at least not in being aware. You will always be surrounded by girls, but part of you was always worried that it was just because of the harem anime thing.

Now you have a girl who’s actually aware of what’s going on and she says she’s going to stay.

“I was worried that I’d be stuck here by myself, with just a bunch of plot points to go off of and a ton of blue hair…” You pause as Kaname gives you a look, “Sorry, it’s just that there’s a lot of you with blue hair, I don’t have anything in particular against it.”

Kaname nods. “Well, I’m glad you’re taking this well. I was worried that you’d freak out and we wouldn’t get anywhere.”

“Get anywhere?” you look at her.

“I was going to ask you where you’d come from and how much you remembered,” she says, “if we can pool our knowledge then we might be able to make this transition easier.”

Well…technically you don’t remember anything since you became sentient…well you aren’t really sure. The first thing you remember is the start of this show, with some vague half memories floating around your brain along with some other ones you aren’t sure are yours.

“Uhm, I’m not really sure how to say this,” you say, “but I don’t remember anything from before. I woke up here and I only remember some brief glances of other lives. There have been a few other things, like when I started sword fighting with Ms. Black or when I was with Tatsuko and Akeno where I remembered things, but none of them really seemed…right.”

Kaname stares at you a look of surprise on her face. “You don’t remember anything?”

“No,” you shake your head, “Is that weird?”

“I don’t know, but it seems odd to me, since I woke up sometime during my last show.” She shakes her head. “Neither of us seems to have much experience with this then,” she looks at you as you raise a questioning eyebrow, “I was in a love triangle with a bodyguard, not a harem.”

You nod at her, letting her go back to thinking.

“So, between the two of us, we have no real experience with a polyamorous relationship, we still don’t know where the rest of the plot is going and you seem to be breaking many of the expected behaviors of a harem protagonist.”

“I kinda did that on purpose,” you say, causing her to look up at you.

“Well, I mean I woke up knowing how dumb most harem shows are, so I picked college to avoid a lot of them. I mean that whole first kiss thing, that was on accident, I was hoping to avoid it. Plus well…I guess I was hoping a little bit that I could make sure that I wasn’t actually breaking hearts left and right while I ignored blatant attraction.”

Kaname gives you an appraising look. One that seems to be more forgiving than most of the other ones that she’s given you.

“I guess that’s why it was so easy to figure out that you were sentient,” she says, “since you weren’t acting like the brainless moron most harem protagonists are.”

She sighs there, giving you a slight smile, “And if that is all true, which is likely since you’re a horrible liar, I don’t feel so bad being here.”

Glancing at her watch, she turns back to you. “It’s almost time for PT class, which I assume you want to get to. So let’s finish this.”

She leans forward, about half the distance between the two of you. “Kiss me so it seems like we were having a private chat about me being jealous,” she pauses, “I’d prefer if you didn’t do what you did with the other two.”

Well…shit, another girl wants you to kiss her. But this one wants a real kiss.

This is silly. Spending points will screw us over, because she's likely our best ally at this time, considering she is sentient.

With everything we just said, I'm pretty certain she will fall in love with us without using any points crap to influence her. In fact, I think she'd get pretty pissed once she realizes what we did.

We really, really don't need her to decide she should marginalize us and become the Protag herself.

More often than not, it's the girls who are doing the foodie thing, with the guys just eating.

It's pretty specific that the protag is some wonder chef who is obsessed with cooking, and anons seem to insist on doing this every single time. It's not a big thing, but it gets rather silly.

You nearly hesitate, torn between not wanting to seem like an inexperienced moron, which you technically are, and not wanting to mess with Kaname’s emotions.

She seems to sense this and gives you a small, slightly encouraging smile.

“It’s alright, we still have to keep up appearances and…well every girl has to have her first kiss sometime.”

You’re not sure what she means by that, seeing as how she said she’d been in a show already, but at the very least it galvanizes you into motion. You said you were trying not to mess with the girls, so you keep that promise.

Leaning forward, you gently put your hand on her cheek and kiss her lips. It’s a light kiss, not like the ones you shared with Akeno and Tatsuko. But it’s real, yours, which actually makes it just as good, if not sweeter than the ones with other people’s memories floating around in your head.

Breaking off just enough so that you can look into her eyes, you whisper to her lowly, “Next time…next time will be when you actually want it. Not because the show needs it.”

That causes her to blush, something you don’t think you’ve ever seen before.

“Thank you…” she says softly as she gathers up the jamming device she had set out, causing you to feel more ambient magic as it shuts down.

>+14 attraction for Kaname. Kaname is now a Harem member.

Helping her up as you both stand, the pair of you head towards the Gym and the probable effort, exertion and pain of PT class. Kaname seems lost in thought as you walk, so you leave her alone despite a number of questions that have popped into your mind. If you want, you can probably ask her later.

Stepping into the Gym, you see…significantly less people than before. It seems that a lot of magic users really don’t think that PT training is worth it. However you do see all of the girls you know that were here before, Akeno, Tatsuko and Chris are already here and dressed, talking amongst the three of them.

Kaname excuses herself and heads towards the girls locker room to change. Pulling your own gym clothes out, you head behind the bleachers to quickly change yourself. Stepping back out, you head over to the three chatting girls, but before you can say anything Ms. Black appears again.

“Alright, since you’re still here, I’m going to assume you’re serious. So for right now, I want you to pair off for a spar between students. Don’t take too long, or I’ll assign you myself.”

All three of the girls look at you.

Well…crap. As far as you know all of them are better fighters than you are. So, really it doesn’t matter who you pick. But it’s still up to you.

Well…in your experience both Tatsuko and Akeno are so far out of your league it isn’t even funny and you’re worried that they might hold back, especially Tatsuko since her berserker rage seems to be firmly for people who want to hurt you.

So you decide that Chris would be a better partner, you already told her you’d spar, she seems to be less blatantly more powerful than you are and well, you’re also curious to see how she fights.

“Chris, if you wouldn’t mind,” you say nodding towards her.

Chris nods back to you, surprisingly serious for once and not blushing all over the place. “I look forward to it,” she says.

Akeno and Tatsuko look at each other and then move away, with some soft whispering going on back and forth between them.

Shaking your head, you face Chris, wondering how exactly you’re going to fight her seeing as how you don’t have a sword. But it appears that Ms. Black has your back at least, a sword shimmers into existence on your waist, pulling it out, you take a look around and see most everyone else has paired off, even Kaname with an equally non-combative looking girl.

“Alright then,” says Ms. Black, walking through the middle of everyone, “Go.”

Not a fan of ceremony is she?

You see Chris take a stance, a smaller rapier taking shape in her hands as she summons it into existence.

She appears to be waiting to see what you’ll do, at least for the moment.
>Rush her.
>Get closer, but don’t attack right away.
>Let her make the first move.
>Other.
>>
Normally attraction points are a measure of how much a character likes us. How does this work with sentients?

This is the second time we got the exact number of points we needed to get to the next level. I think Kaname is aware of the point system and is intentionally giving us points?

Get closer to prevent her from rushing us, then wait for her to swing so we can counter. I'd assume by the rapier she uses quick thrusts , so we should be able to dodge to the side and move down her weapon, getting a solid hit

Let's not be completely passive. Perhaps try to draw an attack.
>>
>>31633573
>Let her make the first move.
>>
>>31633573
She is a fencer. Damn. We are probably using a katana or something. Gotta limit her range and get close to her, is our best bet. Just rushing in or keeping a far enough distance is just asking to be picked of with a well placed poke or lunge.

>Get closer, but don't attack right away.
>>
>>31633573
>Let her make the first move
She's using a rapier, meaning she'll go for quick thrusts, trying to keep us on the defense until she can get a hit. I suggest we wait, then when she advances on us we try to trip her, or at least stagger her for a second.
>>
>>31633573
>Get closer, but don’t attack right away.
fencers rely on controlling range. We need to take that away to draw advantage, but a rush will just get us stabbed

>>

>Let her make the first move
A classic trick for dealing with a thrust is to simply slap the blade out of the way and counter with an appropriate slash while the attacker's arm is extended.

Blocking with the sword simply commits it, allowing for a quick replacement or a disengagement.
>>
>>31633739
the problem with trying to smash a good fencer's weapon is they'll just dodge and stab you in the armpit midswing
>>
>>31633573
Rushing had some chance of working, she was using a lighter blade than you were, but you weren’t sure of your relative skill levels or how fast she was, and to try judging by how fast Ms. Black was probably unfair to…well anybody who wasn’t Ms. Black.

However you weren’t about to let her do whatever she wanted either. Surrendering the initiative was nearly always a bad idea when it came to fighting. Even if you reacted well, it still let the opponent control the fight until you could regain it.

So you take a middle ground.

Taking a slight chance, you move closer, guard up as you close the distance. It’s not a lot, but it puts you both in easy range of each other.

Chris seems to take this as the price of doing business, tossing a couple light, easily dodged or parried swings your way.

You dodge them easily, parrying only one of them that comes just a little too close to your center of mass for comfort.

This seems to be enough for her, she backs off slightly, before suddenly darting in at you, probably at full speed with her weapon leading.

Seconding this!

However fast Chris is, it’s not as fast as Ms. Black, so while you can’t claim to have seen her attack coming from a mile away, you can claim to have seen it in time to block.

Batting away her lighter weapon with your own, you avoid any actual bodily harm, though her blade does manage to ruffle the sleeve of your shirt as it speeds past.

Trying to take advantage of her open position, you try to counter Chris. However she’s nearly as swift as a snake and despite your relatively close positioning she manages to dodge easily, her body moving completely out of the range of your swing before it even gets close.

As you reach the end of your swing, Chris’s body still bending away from you, you see her hand switch around to a strange position, her weapon now pointed at you like a javelin or a spear.

Wait…shit…

Her hand moves towards you, the rapier now slightly more aerodynamic in shape as it starts to fly towards you.

You have just enough time to try and block.

Which I'd rather NOT have, because nothing about the whole series we are in is realistic to begin with. We haven't done anything particularly realistic from day one.

If realistic combat was to be had, it should be in a very different kind of quest. Wrong type of series, y'know?

I'd also worry that by trying to make combat too realistic, we might actually change the genre of the series from harem...to something we really don't want.

When you start dealing with realism, people don't shrug off damage, don't ignore being fried with magic, and certainly don't get up after being impaled by a sword.

You manage to get your sword up as Chris’s rapier flashes towards you, the slim blade glinting in the artificial light as it speeds towards your torso.

However you manage to intersperse sword in time, barely, causing the blade to simply shoot past your left arm, leaving a small bloody gash as it whistles by.

Fuck that hurts, you can’t help but glance at the red liquid that starts dripping from the slice, but you turn back to face her just in time to duck another thrust, by a different blade than the one that just flew by your head.

That’s right, you remember Chris saying something about throwing her weapon at her opponents and then summoning another to keep going. Well isn’t that a nice trick…when you aren’t on the receiving end.

But she has the advantage right now, pressing it to the fullest extent that she can as you barely dodge and parry the next few attacks. Luckily, it seems Chris is getting tired at nearly the same rate you are, maybe a little less but she definitely doesn’t have the same stamina Ms. Black has.

You both circle around slowly, Chris managing to keep the pace to her advantage. You need to try something.

However, Chris is still really damn fast despite you catching her slightly off guard. So instead of completely missing, her blade again simply slides past you, opening up another gash on your side. It hurts worse than the last one, probably due to being bigger and leaking more of that vital red stuff.

But it does place you close enough to Chris that you lash out with the hilt of your sword, catching her in the face and staggering her back. She seems just a bit dazed, barely managing to dodge your next swing, which gives her the first superficial cut you’ve managed to land across her arm.

You’ve got the advantage now, but you can feel your side aching from the hit she managed to land. If you let it go on for too long you’ll probably lose, seeing as how you don’t have much experience trying to fight while simultaneously being wounded.

So, you could try a couple things.

>One last attack, all or nothing.
>Try to push her up against the wall, get her to surrender.
>Wait for her to mess up, you’re fine.

You decide to place your fate in this fight on one last all or nothing attack.

Stepping forward one last time, you see Chris’s eyes brighten, either with an idea in her addled mind or proving that you didn’t actually hit her that hard in the first place.

But even as your blade comes toward her, you see her move, with another blade coming into her secondary hand as you close.

It’s not much, but she manages to block you so that your blade only goes through her side, certainly painful and debilitating, enough to win in most other circumstances, but not this time.

That’s mostly because her second blade angled just right to pierce your heart.

…Fuck that hurts is all you can really think of as Chris’s eyes meet yours. Initially hard, part of them softens as they see you in pain. You feel the power leaving your arms, causing you to let go of your sword, the blade starting to slide out and then disappearing as you let go.

Chris’s dual weapons disappear as well, the pain in your chest mostly diminishing as you fall forward, Chris supporting you enough so that you don’t just slam into the ground. You end up leaning on her shoulder, still mostly in pain, but alive, like the headmistress said, only your minor wounds and fatigue still evident. Chris seems to be ok as well, what should have been a large bleeding gash in her side simply a cut in her shirt, exposing some pale flesh beneath.

As you try and catch your breath, your eyes land on where Tatsuko and Akeno are still going at it. Tatsuko seems to be covered in soot and bruises from where Akeno has hit her multiple times with large lightning blasts, but Akeno seems to be getting tired, each dodge slower than the last, she doesn’t even seem to be able to fly anymore.

As you watch, Tatsuko manages to get in one last punch, slamming into Akeno’s stomach and sending her flying into the wall with a thud.

Seeing as how that was the last fight, you look up and see Chris looking down at you, slightly worried.

“Are you ok?” she asks.

Oh shit, you guys, he's got the 4chan RNG figured out! He can help us rig all the rolls forever if he just tells us the coding for it!

Fuck off. You don't know the source code for the rollers, don't pretend you do.

I've seen it do weird stuff too, but that was mostly from a LOT of nat 100's in a row. Anyway, can we get back to the quest?
>>
>>31636127
I'd like to add a story

>There once was a king.
>He was an awful king, truly horrid.
>The peasants revolted, and he escaped to the jungle, however he managed to take his throne with him.
>He made a new life there, made a grass two story house, (he's an ingenuitive bastard, if a terrible ruler)
>He stored the throne in the upper floor.
>One day, the peasants came knocking at the door, looking for the escaped king.
>He managed to convince them that he hasn't seen anybody matching that description.
>Then, a peasant leaned on a load bearing pole, shifting the weight just enough, that the throne fell through the ceiling.
>The peasants recognized the king as such, after this, and had him tried and executed.

The moral of this story is this: "those who live in grass houses shouldn't stow thrones."

Because if it was a standard system, people would be able to create botposts for nat 100s every single time they post. The butthurt would echo for eternity. Therefore, they are forced to create badly-programmed RNGs that only the programmers know the source code for, in order to make it unhackable.

There is a reason that 'It has been 0 days since the last time a major 4chan feature totally broke' is a banner on all boards of 4chan. BECAUSE IT'S BADLY PROGRAMMED.

>There once was a village in the continent of Trid
>In Trid, there was one well, at the top of a hill
>One day, an ogre took up a post at the top of the hill
>Whenever someone would try to climb the hill, he would kick them off.
>Finally, the mayor decides to speak to the ogre
>He walks up the hill, and before he can get a word out, the ogre kicks him off.
>The innkeeper, a charismatic bastard, decides to try his hand.
>He climbs the hill, and again, the ogre immediately kicks him off.
>They send a great warrior, to defeat the ogre.
>No dice, one kick and he's off the hill
>Eventual, the king of the land sends his son, a great diplomat up the hill.
>Kick, and down he goes.
>Finally, a rabbi from a far off land decides to try to help them.
>He climbs the hill, and has a short, if rather pleasant conversation with the ogre.

The ogre laughs, and says "Silly rabbi, kicks are for Trids"

You let out a low, groaning chuckle as she asks you that.

“I’m fine,” you say, managing to sit up a little bit straighter as the dull throbbing in your chest dies even lower.

“Are you sure?” asks Chris, still seeming maybe a little guilty at the whole, stabbing you through your heart thing.

“Really, it was a good fight,” you say, “If anything it makes me feel better about wandering around, I know I’ll have somebody like you protecting me.”

Chris seems to blush slightly at this, her face starting to turn a lovely shade of pink. “I…it’s nothing just what my family taught…are you positive you’re ok?”

“Yes,” you say laughing, looking over to where Tatsuko seems to be helping Akeno get up, the rest of the class starting to regain their feet as well.

“But if you’re so worried about it then you can kiss it better if you’d like.”

It’s here that Chris splutters, giving you a rough push away from her as you laugh.

“You…why, I’d never….”

You just chuckle, waving your hands at her. “Chris, it was a joke.”

“You…” her face turns red again, but this time she helps you up, “You are a scoundrel John Galt.”

You just chuckle as you regain your feet, “And you are easy to rile Christiane Friedrich.”

>Christiane Attraction +3. Christiane is now a Harem Member.

As you all gather around Ms. Black, she surveys the class.

“Most of you did well,” she says honestly, “But some of you need work, a lot of it. However, that’s for later. For now, good job and get out of my gym.” There’s a pause as her refreshing magic hits the group, your small cuts healing and your tiredness washing away.

With that, most of the girls head for the showers. Tatsuko seems to be the only one staying behind, though she seems to be grinning at you like the other day.

>There was a castle, surrounded by a large moat.
>This moat was filled with a deadly fish, called Yellowfingers (kinda a cross between pirhanhas and sharks).
>One day, the drawbridge broke, and they had to send someone across the moat.
>A brave knight volunteered to cross.
>About halfway across the moat, he dissapeared, and a bundle of bones floated to the surface
>Next, a Prince volunteers to cross, hoping to establish his heirhood.
>He barely gets a toe in before the fish pull him in and kill him.
>Next, the castle's wizard decides to cross, utilizing a new spell to protect him
>The spell doesn't work.
>Running out of options, the King sends for a sage.
>The sage tells them to send two paiges across
>They get diving gear and lead shoes, and walk along the bottom of the lake.
>By some twist of fate, the fish ignore them.
>They manage to get across, and bring back a crew of men to rebuild the bridges
>The king returns to the sage, and asks how he knew that the Paiges would make it across

It is correct. If you roll two regular 6 sided dice the probability of one being higher than the other is exactly 50% minus the probability that they are the same number

in the case of 100 sided die the probability of them being the same number is .0001

So the probability of the first roll being higher than the second one is .5-.0001 = .4999

Take a statistics class.

You let out a sigh as you watch the last of the girls file into the locker room. One day you swear, one day there will be a place for you to shower. But right now you have a hose.

“Come on,” you say, grumbling slightly, “I need to be clean for class.”

Tatsuko smiles at you, leading you once again back to the area behind the gym.

Stripping down to a minimum level of clothing, you once again let Tatsuko ply the hose over you. The water is decently warm at least, seeing as how you’re pretty sure it just sits out there in the sun for most of the time.

You manage to clean yourself off, mostly, and then before you can go behind the shed, Tatsuko holds the hose out to you.

Wait…why is she…

Oh, right. You take another look at her form, she’s sweaty, sooty and honestly her hair is a complete mess.

You take the hose, and with no small amount of enjoyment, begin to spray your blue haired cuddle bug with the hose.

She lets out a cute, “Anh,” as the water hit her, but quickly washes off most of the soot and sweat, leaving a lot of skin bare and wet as she strips down as well. You avert your eyes as more clothes come off.

When you’re finally done, both you and she are clean, wet and not wearing very much as your clothes lay out in the sun to dry off.

Turning the hose off, you keep your eyes mostly off of Tatsuko, seeing as how parts of her clothes are…see through. But then you feel her walk up behind you and hug you, her head resting on your shoulder.

“Class is later…need to wait for clothes to dry,” she says as her soft skin presses against yours, certain urges hitting you, “…what should we do?”

Wait, did she seriously just ask you that? After the whole getting clean thing?

Guide, the mood is swinging on the cuddling to include light kisses. Just so you know before you run off and do the scene.

You don’t even think about it. Not really. Turning your head, you plant a kiss right on her cheek.

“How about we sit over there in the sun and relax,” you say, nodding towards a patch of wall with a slightly comfy looking tuft of dry grass beneath it.

Tatsuko nods happily and lets go of you, letting you lead her over to the indicated spot. Taking a seat first, you lean against the wall as Tatsuko sits between your legs. Despite the potential for misunderstandings, there are none. You simply wrap your arms around her waist as her still partially wet hair leans against your cheek.

“John…” says Tatsuko softly, soft, body leaning gently against you.

“Yes?” you ask.

It’s here that she pauses for a long time, before simply saying, “Thank you.”

You don’t reply to that, simply leaning down and placing a gentle kiss on her lips. It’s nothing like the one before, where you utterly blew her mind. But it is heartfelt, causing her to let out a happy little “Mmm” as you pull away.

After that, you simply hold her as you watch the clouds float by in the sky.

>Tatsuko attraction +4. Tatsuko is now a Harem Member.

And that's it for tonight. Next thread will probably be Wednesday night, watch my twitter for details.

Questions for you, how'd you like the action sequence? I'm always nervous about those.

Also, I'll be around for a little like normal to answer your questions.

>All these small kisses
>All these big feels
damnig Guide you're killing me with happiness
>>
>>31637801
action was fine. adorableness was great.
>>
>>31637801
The action sequences were fine, though without any sort of HP stat or damage it felt like the choices didn't matter so much to me.

Thanks for running
>>
>>31637801
I liked the action sequence quite a bit, ignore the snobs who complain about floating dice. It's an opposed roll, so it makes sense.
>>
>>31637801
thx 4 runin budi gud thred
>>
>>31637801
Action was good. Mobile DC kinda sucks though, but that's a mechanic, not your writing.

I agree. You, sir, are a faggot of the highest caliber. I'm sure you mother is very proud of you.
>>
>>31637801
combat is good so far. i really hope to get more of it soon
We should really introduce some more plot elements and THEN put it on backburner to focus on romance.
>>
It's kind of sad how people don't look at timestamps.
>>
>>31637801
Action was good. Harsher than most, but fair, visceral, and enjoyable. Flowed well, which is really the issue in a lot of quests.
Feels were better.
Feels are always better.
>>
>>31637921
you bet she is
>>
>>31637801
My main beef with combat was that the choices seemed to all boil down to the same thing - opposed rolls. So what we were voting for was just the fluff that accompanied those rolls.

I'm not sure how you could mechanically differentiate them, though. I don't think you have enough stats to do that with.
>>
>>31637971
Trust me, you guys picked right with Chris.

Akeno and Tatsuko both had major advantages for rolling.

It's not always going to be opposed though, sometimes, but not always.
>>
>>31637937
Why do you say that?
>>
>>31637996
I think his complaint was not that
but that once the combat with christ started, that there was no difference between "tackle her" and "reposte" and the like because there is no HP, no deep stats, all it boils down is an identical opposed roll.

I noticed that you introduced other things to it, but they didn't seem to provide a bonus/penalty to either side (like her getting hit in the head and being stunned).
>>
>>31637971
This, it seemed to me like the choice didnt have an impact on the mechanical side of the combat.
Maybe try something like what DXR does and have a rock paper scissors thing going on but instead of scoring points give us a bonus or a penalty to a roll.
>>
>>31638023
well, I assumed if we chose something dumb like tackle her she'd suddenly get a bonus to her roll, or we'd get a penalty
or both
>>
>>31637996
I do feel, however, that we should get some minor bonus or penalty for making strategically sound, or not so sound, decisions.
As long as we're smart, we have a better chance than we would otherwise.
>>
>>31638023
>>31638026
>>31638038
>>31638040
I will keep this in mind for next time. I did try and work that in, but I guess it needs to be more...visible, in a word.

Keep in mind this was also basic combat, with a harem member.
>>
>>31638038
I would hope we would. It is possible we just went with bland "safe" choices that give neither bonus nor penalty for the entire round rather then those beginning meaningless fluff choices.
just something for the QM to think about
>>
>>31638040
The problem with that is is twofold -
one, guide has to give us deliberately unsound actions
two, we have to guess which ones are which with minimal information

If there were more stats he could tell us what the options did, mechanically, and we could pick between them, but as is, I don't think that's an option.
>>
>>31638061
what was that?
>>
>>31638081
yea, this not being "real" combat is an important point.
>>
>>31638095
um, it's pretty easy to tell which are sound and which are dumb
>>
>>31638115
>>Try and smack her blade away, it’ll come back but you have a second or two.
>>Step into her attack and try your own.
>>Try to counter again.

Really. Which one gets the mechanical bonus? Which one gets the penalty? Why?
>>
>>31638096
I think he realized that 45 is lower than 46, and deleted his post.
>>
>>31638095
that is a good point.
and maybe it is actually OK for the actual specifics to not matter

OH HEY... the specifics don't matter unless they are exceptionally smart/stupid and are just fluff because this is a HAREM anime first and foremost.
We are trying to put up a show... and on that note. the specifics should absolutely matter for something different. gaining / losing protag points, gaining / losing affection, gaining / losing mcguffins. etc.
Real combat will be more than just fighting something, there has to be a reason. decisions could be on what we pursue. Are we out to protect our girls, to get phat loot, etc
>>
>>31638130
Snacking the blade away gets the penalty.
She literally creates blades from nothing.

Countering is pretty neutral

Stepping in gets the bonus.
She doesn't expect it, and rappers are a stabbing weapon, which, much like a spear, requires more space.
>>
>>31638130
Well from those:
Trying to counter again would get a penalty, we just tried it and it didn't even work
Stepping into her attack to land our own would give her a bonus to hit, but same to us
Trying to smack her blade away would give no bonuses or penalties initially, but give us a bonus for the next action if we succeed.
>>
>>31638177
>>31638181

Thank you for proving my point.
>>
>>31638177
Christ, my phone is drunk with power in the autocorrect division.
>>
>>31638192
Well, it's easy for me, I dunno about other guy or you.
>>
>>31638211
Yes, because you're obviously always right.
>>
>>31638226
yeah, now you get it!
>>
>>31638211
That's the spirit!
>>
>>31638192
...surely the whole point is that until the penalties/bonuses are to be applied, the only one who knows with any certainty is Guide?

The merits of assorted choices are open to interpretation. That's generally the way it goes with most choices. In most quests. Also, most things that aren't quests.

Isn't that the whole idea?
Attempt to ascertain optimal course (with given due respect to established narrative, of course),
Finalise choice,
Wait for outcome,
Read, react and repeat?
>>
>>31638373
Adding a guessing game element to the choices doesn't provide any benefit.

Either guide makes it so blatantly obvious that he may as well rename the choices to
>A.bonus
>b.neutral
>c.penalty
in which case it's just extra work.

Or he makes them ambiguous enough that people will start arguing about everything.

To what end?
I'm not particularly interested in trying to outguess Guide. That isn't fun, and it isn't why I keep coming to these threads.
>>
>>31638522
When I was suggesting it, I was thinking that the bonuses/penalties wouldn't necessarily fall under guide's given choices, but on write-ins.
Guide gives a couple basics options, but it's up to us to come up with the fancy shit.
>>
>>31638522
My point is, that's what you're advocating.
There is no 'adding' a guessing game to choices. There IS a level of ambiguity to all choices. Partly as a necessity, because otherwise, as you said, it's just be case of bonus/neutral/penalty, and partly because we are not inside the QMs head. Nor should we be.
We can intuit certain theories about choices. We then use these to make a decision on what to vote for. We vote. Majority takes it.
Example. The above sample;
>>Try and smack her blade away, it’ll come back but you have a second or two.
Entirely defensive. No attack. Minor defensive bonus, a stalling tactic.
>>Step into her attack and try your own.
We can intuit that this gives us a bonus to attack, while our defense is ignored.
>>Try to counter again.
Balanced choice. Defense/offense split.

It does not give us precise details. If it did, it would not be a quest. It does, however give us an idea of the gist of it. We then make the choice we agree with.
This is the basic underpinning of quest - no, a voting system.

I'm not having a go. I genuinely do not understand your complaint. What is the confusion here?
>>
>>31638789
>I genuinely do not understand your complaint.

Far be it for me to educate you, then.
>>
>>31638878
Try.
