Welcome to Academy City. The time is now late-morning, the weather is air-conditioned and the date is August 9.

You are Kyril Torikov, ‘Level 2’ Telekinetic Child Error and you are quite rich. That is why you were standing in line at a bank. Well, standing may be a bit misleading considering that you were in a wheelchair. Lines aren’t really a thing either as the place the bank was gracious enough to provide benches and seats for its customers. You were intending to open an account and transfer a considerable sum from your savings to the new one. This offshore account would serve two purposes. One is to store your money in a suitably secure location and two, to allow you to invest said money. Right now you could probably buy a sports car with the money you have but you’d rather double or triple that sum for future use.

You were here at the advice of your girlfriend Asuka who was sitting beside you and scrolling about on her phone. She possessed a modest investment portfolio herself, which was significantly more than you seeing as you had none. A brief glance at her screen showed that she was trawling the internet for information. Strange that it was taking so long for the teller to ring up your number despite it being so early in the morning. However, something else caught your eye. It was your acquaintance and friend of The Railgun, Saten. You wonder what she was doing here when she waved at you.

Shadowrunners to simplify it a lot are guys that do illegal shit for cash. Using their head and paranoia to not get caught doing these illegal things by security forces.

You wave back slightly but make no attempt to engage her in conversation. The last time you sprung the fact that you knew another girl out of the blue to Asuka, she got upset. Asuka also discovered that there was yaoi manga of you out there. You weren’t going to take that chance, not yet anyway. Thankfully for you, Saten only returned to filling in her forms.

“Don’t think I didn’t see that,” Asuka said without looking away from her phone, “I do wonder how many comely maidens you are acquainted with.”

You think that was her jealous voice. Before you could explain however, your number was called. Asuka got up quickly and suddenly wheeled you where you needed to go. It was a ways away from the front and closer to the heart of the bank in another room altogether. The clerk greeted the both of you with a smile and some minor pleasantry as he handed you a form to fill. The minutiae were beyond you but with Asuka’s help you were able to navigate it.

“It’s this one dear,” Asuka helpfully pointed out.

A muted pop was heard and the both of you seemed to perk up at that. Typical you thought. The clerk only looked confused, before switching to terror as an armed gunman walked in to the halls and told you all to eat the dirt. Asuka looked down at you nonplussed and you shrugged. She probably wanted to take care of this, let off some steam so to speak.

>Finish filling the form, she’s got this
>Watch her back, he’s probably not alone
>TK him at the wall for the interruption

We should practice unloading our gun with TK when we get the chance. Then we could use that skill to disarm anybody who pulls a gun near us

Yeah, we might be stuck at Level 2 for a while, but while in a wheel chair it will force us to use our TK abilities more often, and maybe help us come up some more ideas and uses.

I honestly loved those guys. They tired so hard to be edgy when just last arc there was a group of people manipulating 10K clones and accelerator of all people.
>>
>>31646479
Wish we had picked fine manipulation, being able drop the mag and eject the round would be handy as shit.

Wrench that rifle from his hands when he's not pointing it directly at someone.
>>
>>31646613
Unloading the magazine of a gun will not stop it from firing, just stop it from loading a new bullet to be fired. In most cases there will be a bullet in the chamber that can still be fired. And also the man will notice the magazine falling out and can put in another if we are unable to disable or incapacitate him we will be in trouble.

Another way is to go even finer and mess with the internal firing mechanisms of the gun with our TK, such as the firing pin or trigger mechanism. The problem with this though is that the gun is now virtually useless to us as it is to them, but they will not know that their gun works, because of the subtle disabling of their gun. Also with your way if we can get the gun from them we ultimately gain a working gun without having to fix it compared to if we TKed the internal mechanism of the gun.

Or better yet, just TK the whole gun from their hands.

Pros and Cons, to either way and a bit of rambling, but still. Main point, even if there is no magazine guns can still fire, though there are guns made with safety features to prevent that.

>Drop the mag
>Pull the trigger when he points the gun down

You were tempted to just save her some trouble. Asuka didn’t have The Dean with her at the moment given that this was a bank. She had left it at an umbrella stand by the entrance. Then you remembered that she was a Level 4 with Mind Control powers. It was easy to forget when she carried a bloody long sword with her everywhere.

“I did not think there would be trash worthless enough to rob a bank ever since the Level Upper incident,” she remarked.

“Bitch I said,” the masked thug took aim at her.

“Kill yourself plebeian.”

Then he took aim at himself and ventilated whatever was served as a brain beneath his mask. It wasn’t particularly loud but when the opposite wall was coated with his grey stuff you resisted choking. The gunshot attracted the attention of another masked thug.

“Wolf what the fuck did I say about shooting civilians?”

For a brief moment your eyes met before the three of you erupted in to action. Your TK sent his aim wide and away as he tried to bring up his weapon. Asuka only commanded that he choke himself with his own necktie. That goodness you were paying attention. There were still sounds of struggle coming from the main room.

“I say nothing quite beats watching fools waste their lives away,” Asuka smiled before turning to the clerk, “Call Anti-Skill.”

What now?
>Fill in the form
>Sneak out
>Clear the bank
>>
>>31646880
Now that is using your brain, if we do that then I have no problem. Except negligent discharge and maybe the shot ricocheting and hitting a bystander when he doesn't point his gun to the ground.

Only thing that worries me now are guns that don't us magazines, i.e. revolvers, bolt-action, lever-action, and whatever. But we can probably thing of something real quick.

>>
>>31647001
Who tires to rob a bank with a diaper on their head? Idiots is who.
>>
>>31647001
Not robbing a bank, but someone who specifically wants to be coming after us, could be using those weapons knowing we might have a harder time disabling them.

>>
>>31647042
We can't help it if crime seems to follow us around no matter where we go.
>>
>>31647060
Pulling the trigger while it's not pointed at us and holding it down would stop them.

>>
>>31646960

>>
>>31647072
Less that and more the casual attitude to death and killing seems like the kind of thing that Touma would consider to be a sign of not living your life correctly.
>>
>>31646960
Also oh shit, did we just kill the guys from Payday:The Heist? Mixed feelings there, happy and sad.
>>
>>31647109
You might want to read the end of the last thread.
>>
>>31647123
Damnit man, I was enjoying Auska time, and then you had to go bringing that up and make me sad/angry again.
>>
>>31647097
Honestly that's more their bad luck to bring in guns. Asuka and Kyril don't fuck around when it comes to that.
>>
>>31647085
That is if we know they are there in the first place and are within our range, again when I think bolt action rifle or revolver I think quick hidden attack, either some guy shooting us in the back with a revolver when we aren't paying attention or in the case of the bolt action; a sniper from afar that we don't know is even there.
>>
>>31647160
If you're just going to say that disabling wouldn't work because sneak attack, then what was the point of bringing up bolt action / revolver / lever action as examples of things that might be harder to disable? They could just as easily sneak attack us with automatic weapons.
>>
>>31647155
Oh I agree, its just 'they brought guns, so we killed them' still seems like the kind of thing that triggers a 'stupid illusion' speech.
>>
>>31647097
I don't think that Touma is the end-all be-all when it comes to right and wrong. And ACACQ isn't even the canon Touma because he never got amnesia'd. And canon Touma was a fucking loon anyway.
>>
>>31647182
I know kinda drifting away from where this started, now I'm gettin' paranoid and just thinking about ways people could kill us, let's just leave it at "disabling guns with our TK is cool useful, and possible, but we can still get lit the fuck up."
>>
>>31647243
Well yeah. We need passive defense mechanisms if we want to stop all the murderizations.
>>
>>31647258
Then we should focus on the book on multitasking so we can passively maintain a TK field to serve as a shield.
We'd probably have to actively concentrate on keeping it up once things start hitting it, and I doubt we could keep it up for long under sustained fire, but those few seconds could mean all the difference between a jolly good time and laying in the hospital with our girlfriend chastising us.
>>
>>31647258
With this in mind we could either:

>A) Go TK, I have no idea how but again, we will think of a way.

>B)Go Magical, there gotta be something out there that can give us a shield or something or whatever.

>C)Go Plain, somehow acquire some body armor or bullet proof vest

Again, none of these are sure fire and none of them will sto[p everything that this City will throw at us, but it's better than nothing.
>>
>>31647412
>Again, none of these are sure fire and none of them will stop everything that this City
I vaguely remember mechs being a thing
>>
>>31647412
>C)Go Plain, somehow acquire some body armor or bullet proof vest

We do have a contact in the dark side. So this shouldn't be too hard to set up if we needed it.

The clerk didn’t hesitate in hitting the alarm and dialling for Anti-Skill. It didn’t seem like these guys had Abilities like you but they weren’t kids or clowning around. They also happened to be in snazzy business suits. With the masks and gloves they had, you guess they were planning on getting away with it too. Well what did you care? Asuka had this well in hand you thought.

“Call me if you need me dear,” you turned back to the form.

“I shall be done shortly,” she gave you a quick peck and left.

“So what goes here?” you asked the clerk.

-You are now leaving the main character-

You walked back to the lobby where two thugs were doing whatever it was that thugs did. Well one was manhandling with a girl that Kyril had waved to earlier. To be honest, you kind of wanted to see what would happen if you left them alone. The other thug was working on some kind of drill. Most the other civilians had been cuffed with plastic restraints and the ATMs had been ransacked. A lot of people liked to think that your power was mind control. Hell, even the Power Development researcher thought that initially. You knew better. It was why you were forced to read up on biology and the brain. They didn’t yield answers to the puzzle that was your Ability until you stumbled upon psychology. Your power wasn’t mind control. No, it was something different yet quite similar. It was the usurpation of authority. You manipulated the social strata by placing yourself above your target and then using your newly acquired authority to get them to behave as you will. Like a parent would order a child or an army officer a subordinate, you were a God that must be obeyed. Thus the only weakness was when there existed an ego that considered itself above others. It wasn’t hard to do and there were ways you yourself could exploit it but that was the general defence against your Ability. It was why you kept your ability a closely guarded secret. Those kinds of people were rare but they existed, like the leader of the thug in front of you.

He let go of the girl and raised his gun.

“Eat dirt girly,” he commanded.

Yes, it was that tone of voice that gave him away. He was a dominator, a control freak, a man who was to be obeyed without question or else. Too bad for him you’ve had experience with his kind before.

“Girl, fetch my sword,” you commanded as he pulled the trigger, “Ignore the pain.”

The impact felt dull along the lower abdomen. You think it struck your liver quite solidly.

“Accelerate.”

You pretended to slump down but instead leapt at him with a speed beyond his reaction, moving fast enough that your left fist’s impact elicited a creak along your bones as they took the strain of the impact. The girl returned with your sword has his partner looked up from the drill, bringing his gun to bear but you were faster. The Dean cleaved straight through the gun and both his arms, rewarding you with a brief arterial spray before you turned you attention back to the leader.

He was getting up, groping for his gun in a daze when you walked back up to him. You simply kicked him in the face and away from the gun. Laid out flat on his back, his attempt to get up was stopped with another stomp. This time you had brought the weight down on his throat. It was not enough to crush it but it was uncomfortable as he tried to remove your foot. Once his eyes caught your expression he realised that he was done. Unlike most men who died, he wasn’t looking up your skirt. No he dared to defy you until the end. That was fine with you as you drove The Dean through his heart and his eyes turn lifeless.

With the thugs disposed of you thought now it was time to summon your dear boyfriend.

“Oh Kyril dear,” your voice rang out sweetly.

To be honest you only had to sign the form and hand it back to the clerk who assured you that your account would be set up immediately. The funds would also be transferred directly as soon as possible along with a little bonus but nobody actually had to know that. At Asuka’s call however you stopped twiddling with the pen in your hand and wheeled yourself back in to the lobby.

There she stood, breathing heavily and bloodied, smiling as if she had the best day in the world. Then she slumped in to your chair before you noticed that some of that blood was hers and it was coming from a wound near her stomach.

You had to remain calm, completely calm despite the fact that your girlfriend just got shot. Damn it you could have prevented this.

“Saten, call an ambulance, quickly,” you ordered your acquaintance.

She was the only one that had their hands free at the moment.

“Anyone a doctor? Know first-aid?” you asked.

There were a few, so you gently lay Asuka down as best you could and started to free the civilians prioritising the one that could help. The clerk from earlier helped you, fetching a first-aid kit as they got to work. You almost fell out of your chair at one point, aggravating your own injuries a little but once the ambulance arrived they carted her off quickly.

Anti-Skill were quick to start disposing of the bodies and interrogating the other witnesses to the crime. You were sitting alone off to the side once the ambulance had left. No one had bothered you yet as you were clearly upset. Really it didn’t have to happen that way. She didn’t have to get shot, not if you were there. It was really stupid of you to just leave her alone like that.

Saten sat next to you but you couldn’t hear her words all you could think of was Asuka.

She was going to make it through, you’re sure of this. Heaven Canceller was the best in the business. But what if he wasn’t the one treating her? No, he had to be, she was the daughter of some big shot right? Not to mention she was a Level 4. Academy City wouldn’t just throw her away right?

Saten had the best parts of Liberal Arts City.
>>
What I'm getting from the wiki is that this Saten girl is good with a bat, but otherwise normal. How is she still alive with all the shit that goes down around her?
>>
>>31649360
She's friends with Mikoto and Kuroko, avoids the worst of it, and she's the waifu of the faggot that directs the Railgun anime.
>>
>>31649360
Difference in the way she's handled in filler vs. canon.

In canon, she never gets involved directly in any kind of combat, all she does is sometimes help from the sidelines or be purposely put out of the way so she isn't hurt. The only level 0s that ever do anything useful have extensive training and planning to do anything. Even Hamazura works out as much as an Olympic athelte.

She's Nagai's waifu though, so he makes her alot more important in the anime, even if it fucks with other character's character development and basic common sense.

Nagai is just awful. Take Yomikawa for instance

>Hates children being anywhere near combat or being hurt
>This even includes freaking Accelerator, who she doesn't wish to fight even though he can curbstomp most people

So the logical step for Nagai to do is to have her send some untrained kids into combat in a mech with a smile on her face.

“What?” you snapped.

It only makes her grip your cheeks with both hands.

“It’s going to be alright Kyril,” she was trying to reassure you, “It’s going to be alright.”

She didn’t go a good job of it really.

“Saten, let go of my face,” you told her.

Why was her name suspiciously close to Satan? And why did she grab your cheeks?

“Right, sorry,” she released you just as quickly as she gripped you, “Feeling better?”

“No,” you lied.

Of course she caught your tone and only brightened. It wasn’t completely reassuring but at least you’re not spiraling down with worry any more. Your hopeful thoughts however are broken when you are approached by Anti-Skill. They were your favourite kind of people right now. At least it wasn’t Yomikawa-sensei.

“Kyril Torikov-kun was it?” he started, “Your girlfriend was delivered to the hospital in the seventh, you know the one. She’s undergoing surgery now but it looks like she’ll be fine.”

That lifted a weight off of your shoulders.

“But just to be in the clear we’re going to have to ask you a few questions," you weren't surprised, "To confirm, the first gunman that you encountered shot himself, then the second one choked himself with his necktie yes?”

You nodded.

“I guess that’s that then, you’re free to go,” he turned and left.

You were honestly expecting a bit more but whatever. You’re free now but you could probably drop by somewhere first.

The time is now near noon, the weather is warm and the date remains unchanged.

You decided that maybe you should get her a get-well-soon present of some kind first. When Asuka visited she brought some pumpkin soup. Too bad you didn’t head straight to your dorm otherwise you might have whipped up something good for her. Oh well it looks like you were taking the materialistic route. As you left the bank, you managed to grab The Dean whilst no one was looking. Now though, you had two questions that needed answering. One, what should you get for Asuka?

“And two, why are you following me Saten?” you asked.

“What kind of a question is that?” she returned, “Gotta make sure you don’t go committing Sudoku when no one was looking. Besides I thought I’d get Kudou-san a gift. She’s saved my life you know?”

“You don’t actually have to follow me though,” you replied.

“No but great minds think alike.”

“Assuming you have one.”

“Oh look, a cake shop,” she ignored you, “Hmm you think she likes chocolate?”

You ignored her in turn and head towards another street. If there was one thing about wheelchairs was that you could really outpace people with it. It wasn’t exactly safe but then you just survived a bank robbery with armed gunmen. The question remained however. If you wanted to find something specific that might take too much time but you didn’t want to settle for anything less than the best.

You honestly had too many ideas now that you thought about it. First things first, flowers, they’ll probably be nice and standard but at least it was easy to find. Next up was a stuffed animal though you weren’t sure what kind to get her. It must have been distressing for the store staff what with the wheelchair, sword, flowers and manic expression. Rows and rows of animals and not a single one seemed to click. None of them were to your satisfaction until you spot it, sitting in a corner warming a corner of the store no one even bothered to look. It was a stuffed sword. Well it was more like a cushion and wasn’t exactly a long sword but somehow it seemed perfect. Last but not least, you grabbed some lunch for her. You couldn’t cook yourself but an arm full of present bought with your money for her ought to do the trick. It also helped that you figuratively hoofed it across the district to get her favourite curry at Ahnenerbe.

By the time you arrived at the hospital Asuka was actually in the recovery ward. The joys of wheeled transportation you thought. Heaven Canceller had even met up with you to explain that there wasn’t anything wrong with her. The bullet didn’t fragment or tumble too much and internal bleeding was minimal. Of course her liver was still shot so he recommended that you hold off on the curry in your arms but she probably wouldn’t die if she had some. Unfortunately Saten, and now Uiharu and Shirai had arrived before you.

Asuka has had enough excitement for one day you think and thus there was no need to cause a scene, especially at a hospital you were familiar with. You had thought that jumping in throw the window would have been nice, given that you could Slow Fall your way in. The thought passed. Still you’re not exactly what constituted a normal entrance given that you’ve never really seen Asuka injured enough to be hospitalised. Judging from Shirai’s tone, you had a feeling that the Judgement girl was lecturing Asuka for something as trivial as killing in self-defence. Thus you fall back to the familiar ‘annoy the hell out of Shirai’ trick which consisted of being completely heterosexual.

“Oh Asuka,” you announce your presence, “I come bearing gifts.”

Three heads turned to look at you as Shirai froze in place.

“Dear, you really are spoiling me,” Asuka knew exactly what you were doing.

“Nonsense, after a hard day’s work you deserve a little reward,” your eyebrows rose up twice.

“Then I hope your reward is long, hard and.”

“I’m not dealing with this,” Shirai interrupted.

She teleported out the window and let gravity take her. Asuka only chuckled like she normally did though she did wince once or twice. She was clearly paler than normal but you recall that it wasn’t life threatening. Giving her a reassuring kiss, you start doling out your gifts. The flowers she appreciated briefly before tossing them at Uiharu. Oh well.

“I think you need a back up blade and so I bought you this,” you held out the sword-shaped pillow.

“I shall keep that in mind,” her sour response was negated by the fact that she started using it, “And I do hope the last one proves to be more practical.”

“Are you hungry?” you simply revealed the curry.

“That’s the legendary Moonlight Splendour Curry!” Saten exclaimed, “How did you get that?”

The two of you looked at her like she had lost her mind. Maybe she found her outburst embarrassing, or maybe she found your combined gaze too much and thus sat back down, face red.

“Maybe if you had a boyfriend you would know,” Asuka suggested before turning back to you, “Two out of three, most acceptable.”

As she dug in, Shirai angrily stomped her way back in to the room and sat down angrily. As the door shut you could make out Heaven Canceller giving you a sign that he was keeping an eye on you.

Maybe Asuka found it demeaning but your attempts at telekinetically feeding her were met with a clear lack of amusement. Even your best kicked puppy imitation did little to dissuade her. Granted your appearance wasn’t quite conductive to looking like a kicked puppy. This wasn't over you vowed silently. Instead you turned your frustrations on to Shirai.

“Was I interrupting something Shirai-san?” you asked.

“Of course, boorish oaf that you were, I was telling your ‘girlfriend’ here,” she made air quotes with her fingers, “that she was completely disproportionate in her defence.”

“Thank you Shirai,” you interrupted again.

You’ve heard that one before. Asuka barely smiled but it was enough for you.

“Hmph, good day,” Shirai finally left in a huff.

“So Saten,” you moved on to your next victim, “What exactly were you doing at the bank this morning?”

“Huh me?” the girl recovered from her funk pretty fast, “Oh I was making a deposit.”

“Really?” Uiharu asked, “They didn’t take your money did they?”

“Nope, I just happened to find some extra spending money so I thought I’d save it a bit,” she answered, “That and I wanted to order some more jeans from England and I needed another account to do it.”

She didn’t say from where she found the money though.

“And you Uiharu why do you have flowers in your hair?” you move on.

“I have flowers in my hair?” she started groping around despite the band of flowers in her hair.

Two out of three, most acceptable, was it?

“You know dear I can’t help but notice that you are acquainted with not only Saten-san here by also Uiharu-san,” Asuka remarked.

Her spoon was balanced between her fingers as she gestured at either one.

“Oh, we’re volunteers at Cypress Park,” Uiharu answered, “It’s where Kyril grew up.”

“He’s a total mama’s boy,” Saten added unnecessarily.

“Oh really, I would like to know how you came about that scrap of information,” Asuka’s eyes narrowed.

“Well he recently,” Saten leaned and whispered in Asuka’s ears.

The look she gave you afterwards was merciless. She was grinning ear to ear as the girls continued to talk about you as if you weren’t in the room. You wanted to interject but there never seemed to be a time you could. Seeing as you were no longer wanted, you were going to visibly sulk by,

You figured that you could probably clean the off The Dean in the bathroom by your lonesome. This wasn’t symbolic or anything. Just you, a sword, and polishing it clean under running water. However, once you took a closer look at it, The Dean seemed unnaturally clean, as if it wasn’t used at all this morning. The red aura that surrounded it wasn’t any stronger than it normally was however. Well you certainly didn’t want to figure out that particular mystery just yet.

Gingerly setting the sword by Asuka’s bed side, you turn towards the window and slip out the postcard that served THIEF’s membership application form. Giving a good look at it, you figured out that if you filled it in, you’d be able to proceed to the next part. Toulour of course hadn’t given a deadline but the sooner the better you thought. After all, how hard could it be?

I would like to mention once again that options that are not mutually exclusive are combined so you get a bit of everything, like back when we trained with Yomikawa. You probably won’t get all the information I planned for but if you think this is a problem then please do tell.

Also I think we’re really getting behind on our reading and I would say that it is not unreasonable that Kyril devotes one hour each night before bed to some reading. Does this seem acceptable to you so we might actually be able to finish a book?
