Okay, in response to some concerns last thread, I revised the roll system and wrote it down in the pastebin. Consult that for future reference.

Before we start off the quest proper, there's one thing we need to take care of. It's come to my attention that a large amount of people aren't happy with the choice of team name, so I'll be putting up one final vote with some pre-generated choices. Considering that blowing up the cockpit hasn't shown to affect MSs in GBF that much, it doesn't make much sense.

Merc I have a question that has been bothering.

I'm not a full expert on Gundam but the Recoiless rifle is a beam weapon right?

I also looked at the Ball from 08th gundam and it uses machines guns.

Are the autocannon a beam weapon or one that uses solid ammunition?
>>
>http://pastebin.com/B03Vx1Ju
>Conversely, critical failures occur if all three rolls do not meet the DC, or if they are all lower than your opponent's lowest roll.

Okay that's a lot more clearer. Thank you Merc for clearing that up.
>>
>>31719473
They're both solid shell weapons. Also, the K Ball (The one from 08th) doesn't have machine guns, it has a pair of 180mm cannons.
>>
>>31719433
But our balls can do the same thing and we have two of them
>>
>>31719473
Beam weapons will almost always specifically have the word "Beam" in them. Recoilless rifles are a real weapon used today. You should look i tup.
>>
>>31719523

Right. Which means we don't need a core block fighter.
>>
>>31719521
So is it safe to say that the autocannons from the K-Ball are similar to have of our Juggler
>>
>>31719540

I knew about it though the one thing that bothered me is that they were either a kind of one shot weapon or had to put in a new round before firing (I'm thinking on the older ones, the new ones may be different). Not to mention it's gundam

The ones on Igloo looked beamish so that what was what brought the question.
>>
>>31719476
Also, I would be correct in guessing that this set of rolls would not have counted as a crit-fail last thread under these rules, correct?

>Okay, so it looks like nobody really wants to change the team name, so we'll just continue the quest as planned.

You are JACK FOULKE, an amateur Gunpla Fighter with dreams to make your own mark on the Gunpla battle scene!

You've just recently joined a newly formed Gunpla Team for your school, the Sorcerers. As something of a breaking in period, you pitted yourself against your very own team captain and her Gunpla, the Obsidian Overflag. While you had won that fight, you had only done so just barely.

Lying on your bed, you look up at the ceiling and sigh. You mind kept going back to that one fight, endlessly replaying it as you tried to figure out what you could have done better. While you did win, your GM Juggler got pretty messed up, losing an arm and suffering all sorts of damage. Not to mention, both of your Balls had been cut to pieces. For the longest time, you felt your GM Juggler was just fine the way it was, but after that fight, and seeing all the cool mods your friends and teammates had for their own Gunpla, it really made you think...

You wake up the next morning, a bit earlier than usual.

True. Though as I recall the idea with using the Balls is that they're big enough to mount more complicated equipment than a funnel can. So we'll lose some versatility if we go for funnels. It'll require more micro-management, too.

You decide to head straight to school. Maybe you could bounce ideas off your teammates.

"Heeeeey, Jack!" Holly waves as you come down the stairs. "I heard you joined a Gunpla team!"

"That I did." You nod as you grab some toast and eggs that Mom had prepared for the both of you. "Nothing too exciting, really."

"I'm just really jealous! They don't let us form teams in middle school! It's downright unfair!" Holly pouts.

"Well, I'm sure it's because they want you to focus on your studies." You smirk. "For such a smart grades, you had awfully bad grades last year."

"T-that's because the stupid standardized testing can't accurately gauge my superior intellect!" Holly responds.

"Uh huh, and that had nothing to do with staying up till 3am fiddling with your Balls."

"S-shut up!"

Laughing, you finish up your breakfast and grab your backpack, making sure Holly does the same. You tell her about the fight you had with Karen yesterday, and Holly starts getting made over you getting your Balls destroyed.

"It's like you treat them as disposable drones!" She glares at you.

"Ummm... that's because that's what they are?" You blink.

"They're your COMRADES!" Holly continues to chastise you. "They risk their lives for you! They at least deserve some respect!"

"Okay, okay!" You roll your eyes.

Yes. Funnels are little drone craft carried by mobile suits, usually controlled via mental link. They're called that because the originals used a design of a gun with a bunch of thruster nozzles at the base, making it funnel-shaped.

"Oh, it's fine. I just need to pop the arm back and and glue the Balls back together and they'll be right as rain." You shrug.

"Ah, good." Lucina smiles. "That fight with Karen's erm... what was it called again?"

"The Overflag." You roll your eyes. Lucina was pretty much everything you could as for in a friend. Smart, attractive, physical fit, but she had one failing...

...she basically knew nothing about Gundam lore. Being in honors classes and sports teams made it so she didn't really have time to catch up on the series, and even then, you have the suspicion she wasn't really interested in it anyways. She was really in it for the battling, mostly.

But using balls as equipment containers/carriers is faster, cheaper and easier.

We also keep our base MS which means we can focus all our upgrades on it while we swap out different balls with different equipment for different fights.
>>
>>31720495
Can we at least shrink the Balls down to standard funnel size so we can mount more of them? I feel like people would be less inclined to make dumb jokes if the Balls weren't such a major part of the Juggler's visual design.
>>
>>31720479

Well, it wouldn't hurt to try out some different suits and loadouts as long as it doesn't hurt our intrepid protagonist's wallet too badly.

See, I don't get the grunt suit fetish.

I mean, I support the idea of mopping the floor with the elitist "GUNDAMS ONLY, FINAL DESTINATION" Gunpla Club using a modified "Grunt" unit to prove a point.

Jack, as a character, should grow beyond the boundary of limiting himself to grunts. I'm not saying he should jump straight into Gundams, but perhaps Ace Custom units, or non-Gundam prototype units, or high-end limited production Mobile Suits?

I at least want to see him CONSIDER building a Zeta Plus, as it's essentially a Gundam in name only, AND it was mass produced... sort of.
>>
>>31720568
Maybe something like the Regenerate from SEED Astray? A mobile suit made out of funnels, so that parts can swap in and out as needed. The Regenerate just used it for self-repairs, but we could extend it to a mobile suit that can reassemble itself to fit any situation. Sort of like that old show Cubix. Does anyone remember that? Pretty dumb, but the main robot was cool.
>>
>>31720645
Honestly, for what we're pushing it fits the character to build cool stuff. I'd like to see a customized Proto-Gundam, or something from Late UC.
>>
>>31720530
But there's plenty of situations where Balls, being large and somewhat unwieldy, would provide little benefit. Of course, it'd be easy enough to remove them from your gunpla in that case.

Also, does anyone have that one fake chart listing increasingly ridiculous Ball upgrades(i.e. a bunch of submersibles, Char and Amuro customs, one modified to look like a shuttlecock), with the final upgrade just being a cubic pod called the "Dice"?
>>
>>31720645

I haven't watched Gundam Build Fighters yet, but since there's a large range of flexibility with building the suits, can't we make a heavily-modded Ace Custom out of any type of suit so long as we spend enough time and effort building one as such?
>>
>>31720581

Not really.

You see the Kampfer amazing is also limited by the equipment it can carry up to a max load without affecting its mobility.

We go in with mobile weapon container/loadout balls, they can seperate from us immediately, giving us a better thrust to weight ratio, agility and an automatic 3 on 1 in a versus fight so as to out maneuver our opponents.

If we create packs for the balls, I-Field packs, Long range packs, CQB packs, etc. We can swap them on the fly with balls using the appropriate equipment which means we can constantly change against the foe we're fighting against, keeping up the pressure and always bringing something new to trip them up.

All this without being overly weighed down by too much equipment.

>>
>>31720786

Well.

He did drop the gatling gun immediately when he got hit.

And before that how often did the Meijin get hit?
>>
>>31720645
The grunt suit obsession, as I see it, comes from the fact that a lot of the designs are honestly quite cool. And yet, being grunts, they get neglected. The protagonist isn't piloting one, so who cares if it gets cool scenes? It's a natural desire when making your own to let the grunts have their day in the limelight. But limited-production mobile suits fall into that category of "would have been nice to get more attention" as well, so we should really expand our options. I would entirely support a customized Zeta Plus. Or a ReZel, or Nero, or any of the other mobile suits that are only not considered Gundams because they don't have the right hat.

"You know, you really could stand to at least watch a series or two." You suggest. "I mean, it'd be a great way to know a little more about your own Gunpla, honestly. Heck, I can even bring my hard drive over we can watch it together."

Lucina blinks and her lips purse into a slight smile.

"Thanks, I'll think about it."

"Ooooooh!" Holly snickers. "Jack and Lucy, sitting in a tree, K-I-S-"

"Quiet, you're still too young for that sort of thing." You say, flicking Holly in the forehead.

"Ow!" She whimpers. "Meanie!"

"You should abuse your little sister like that, Jack." Lucina says.

"Oh, you're taking HER side in this?" You roll your eyes.

You finally reach the school grounds. Splitting up with Holly, you and Lucina head for homeroom. If you remember correctly, Karen and Jake were both Sophomores so they would be taking different classes from you. However, you had homeroom with Mac, Lucina, and Amy.

Of course, classes just sort of whizz by. You're too busy jotting down notes and trying to absorb lessons to really be able to talk to you friends in class, though you suppose that the teachers were doing this deliberately to make sure students wouldn't goof off during class. It also didn't help that the teachers kept their eyes on you all like hawks.

However, finally, lunch period rolls over, and everybody storms out of the class rooms. You, Mac, Lucina, and Amy end up in line at the cafeteria, waiting for food.

"So guys, anything new going on?" You ask.

"Right! Karen said you're all free to stop by the team room if you wish!" Amy says. "You know, if you want a practice battle or to tweak your Gunpla or something like that. "

"I heard they run Gunpla fights during lunch, too, in the gym." Mac adds in. "Might be a good way to scope out the competition."

I-Field Launcher is the best gun. It's got an I-Field built in, can be used like a long beam rifle, and a mega particle rifle.
The suit itself also has a boost system too, it's really a great suit.

If we're doing monoeye Gundams I'd prefer the Dezpada. I like it's goofy shoulder-shields. Plus it would mean we'd have an excuse to build the Tera S'ono, and I want to see how that translated to Gunpla Battle.

I don't mind the Dezpada either, I'm just more of a fan of the Sisquiede.
And the Sisquiede is more able to handle itself on it's own, since the System Fafnir needs the Tera S'ono.
Then again, we could always build all three. Or see if we can find a way to combine the Sisquiede and Dezpada to keep the strengths of both.

We could replace the I-field generator with one of the smaller ones from later in the UC. Model it after the ones the Crossbone X-3 has. Give us three of them, though, so we don't get the cooldown issues.

"Let's head to the team room once we get our food." You say. "I need to get my Juggler tuned up, anyways."

The others nod at your suggestion. You finally reach the food line, and sigh when you see a lot of the best stuff has already been taken. From what you understand, in order to prevent a stampede, upper classmen were let out of class slightly earlier for lunch, which meant they almost always got best pick. However, high ranked Gunpla teams also qualified for that as well.

Something to think about, you guess.

You settle for a slice of pizza and chips with a soda. Not exactly the healthiest choice, but it would get you through the day. Your friends purchase their own items and you all head for the team room. As expected, Karen and Jake are already there.

"Ah, you've all come." Karen smiles. "Now, what should we do for this period?"

"Well, maybe we should talk strategy. Figure out the goal for our team." You shrug. "Plus I can use that time to fix up my Juggler."

"Excellent suggestion." Karen smiles. "Now, our objective in general is to beat the Gunpla Club, but of course, we need to figure out the specifics."

"Something tells me you already have a plan in mind." You say as you take out your tools while taking a bite of pizza.

"A rough one, yes." Karen nods. "There are currently sixteen registered Gunpla teams in our school, including ours and the Gunpla Club. However, the ones that matter the most are the top five ranked teams."

"So we have to be facing off against them at some point?" You ask.

"Correct." Karen nods. "How the system here works is that one team can challenge any other team they wish. However, you can only challenge a higher ranking team. If the challenger wins, they swap ranks with the loser. If the challenged party wins, the loser is automatically bumped down a rank. And cannot participate in official battles for a week."

"That sounds pretty harsh." You frown.

"Well, that's sort of the point." Karen nods. "And since we're a newly founded team, you can guess our current rank."

"Dead last?" Mac sighs.

"Correct. Which means we'll have to figure out how to handle things." Karen narrows her eyes. "There's always the temptation to go straight to the top and challenge the higher rank teams."

"But that sound dangerous." Lucina frowns. "Especially for an untested team like us. We'd be going against the best unprepared."

"Exactly, which is why I think we should start slowly. Challenge out the lower ranked clubs first and build up experience." Karen nods.

"That's great and all." You say, popping your Juggler's arm back into its joint. "But wouldn't it come to a point where we need to upgrade or get new Gunpla? How do we handle the funds for that?"

"Ideally, I want to ask each and every member to donate a certain number of funds into a pooled team treasury." Karen says. "We can use that to help maintain and upgrade our suits. In addition, we can earn additional funds by participating in local tournaments with prize support."

"Or sponsors." Amy says. "I heard the Gunpla Club is actually partly funded by Bandai itself!"

"Yes, but that's only realistically possible under very extraordinary circumstances." Karen sighs. "But for now, we have to decide where to focus our energy at."

Overflag never had trans-am. Closest thing that did was Masurao.
GN Flag was a hapzard kitbash of a GN Drive and a Flag that honestly wasn't very strong, and pretty much beat the shit out of a Gundam that was out of gas.
Don't get me wrong, I love Flags. But yeah.

"We can do that." Karen nods. "How about we all meet a Mason's Hobby Shop after school? He should know about any local events happening."

"Sounds like plan." You reply.

However, the bell finally rings, signifying the end of the lunch period. You all quickly scarf down what little food you have left and return to your respective classes. Again, you're bombarded with lessons, and you're glad when school is finally out for the day.

However, as you head for the exit, you see quite a few people dashing the other way.

"Hey, what's going on?" You ask one of the passing students.

"Didn't you hear? The Thunderhawks just challenged the Gunpla Club!"

You mentally recall the papers Karen had shown you during lunch, and you vaguely recall the Thunderhawks being one of the top ranked teams. If they were out to challenge the top ranked Gunpla Club...

Okay, here's a thought: How about we just have large funnels? Funnels the size of Balls, like the "mother funnels" on the Geymalk. They'd have all the advantages of being capable of carrying larger equipment load outs as the Balls would. There's no reason not to go that way. Aside, of course, from a person's real dedication to the idea being because they think it's funny to use Balls and not for any practical reason. That would either get people to abandon the Balls or reveal them for their actual motivations. Either way, the debate gets ended.

ALWAYS SCOUT THE COMPETITION!

as for future plans

1st we pick up some K Types for grappling and hog tying opponents to get cheap shots in for us and or our allies.

and the next Balls we go for is....um uh.. Seriously, I just think Balls peak with K type, anybody else got any ideas cuz I'm just not flat out crazy for balls as other anons

AI programming is a bitch.
>>
>>31722613
Balls could probably be converted into funnels.

Also, that got me thinking, would the Juggler be allowed to compete in tournaments? A single Ball can be registered as a standalone Mobile Weapon in Gunpla Battles, which makes me think the Juggler could feasibly be considered three separate Gunpla.

>>31722724
These fights last a few minutes at most.
>>
>>31722705
No, I get that. My point was that the claims that using Balls is purely a matter of practicality is kind of nonsense. There's nothing special about the spherical shape for the role of "heavy remote weapons platform". Making them Balls is purely an aesthetic choice. So if people aren't as willing to go for that idea as they are for the Balls, it's kind of revealing that they're just in it for the joke.

We can replace the mines with Funnels and bits.

The mines themselves will be orbs which will have a release trigger to unlock the bits and funnels like a beehive
>>
>>31722753

Balls mounting Planet Defensors from Gundam Wing for all around defence

Balls with ranged equipment + Beam Shields or Beam cloaks for long surviving harrassment forces

Close combat balls. Arms and legs fold out for mini MSs.

Sniper Balls. Ultra Long Range equipment

Self-Destruct Balls. Mix them up with CQB balls and you have FUN.

Funnel Balls. Use the mine layer Ball design and fill them with funnels or bits.

FUNNELS FOR EVERYONE

The GM portion of the suit needs to be upgraded as well. Mostly in the melee area, so what about grabbing a fisheye ball, and tearing off the claws to create a second pair of crusher arms for the GM?
Have them fold back and rest against the backpack when not in use, maybe mod them for an extra joint or so.
We can also take the gun and modify it to be handheld.

Or we have to scratch build all the support units rather then just scratch build support packs and equipment for the balls.

Its practical from a builder standpoint.

>>

See these, these are wonderful ideas. I support this entirely.

Though we may need to start calling them RB-79s, because the B-word hater's head will explode eventually.
>>
>>31722958
no, because the balls take the spot of the funnels. If you want a ball that launches funnels, you'll have to custom build a psychoframe ball as the main suit- using the balls as funnels is pushing it as it is legally speaking.
>>
So are we making our suit for general purpose or specialization? We don't want to be mired by trying to be good in everything that we are just mediocre.

>>31722869
I'm not in it for the jokes, I'm sure the ball is a good support platform. The jokes are degrading my arguement that is the right equipment is used can be useful.

The ball isn't all about lewd jokes.
I want it to be a system worth fearing!
>>
>>31722979
There are at least three people getting tired of the balls.
>>
>>31723037
but the ball is not a system that is worth fearing unless someone kicks one into you
>>
>>31722946
Maybe I've just been spoiled by access to a 3D printer, then. Making some custom funnels would take maybe ten minutes that way (ten minutes of actual work, the print time would be a couple hours. But you can do other things while waiting for that, so it doesn't count). It would be cheaper, too. A Ball model kit costs sixteen dollars American. ABS plastic filament is five cents per gram. I can't see the funnel weighing more than a hundred grams at most. So five bucks vs. sixteen.
>>
>>31723001
How is that illegal, it's about customizing suits.

Is there a rule against that?

Also we're already building an AI system with the balls. It's something worth looking over.
>>
>>31723037
In other words, you're saying the joke without saying it. 'I want people to fear our balls'

And the Ball as a support platform beyond how we have it is REALLY pushing things legally speaking. They're actual mobile suits, so making them fully customized autonomous MS in addition to our own might not be legal.
>>
>>31723086

But.

Plasky Particles is suppose to only work with Bandai (TM) plastic.
>>
>>31723083
it's about how you customize the platform though.

There are good ideas for this, I just feel their getting ignored because people hate the jokes of it.
>>
>>31723023
Juggler for general midrange combat, with varying Ball loadouts depending on what we need them to be doing that battle.

We'll probably pick up a more specialized something-or-other at some point down the line as well, maybe several specialized something-or-others.
>>
>>31723034
Alright two. But ya'll need to chill out, you're creating pro-Ball backlash. We will literally never not have balls because a vocal minority just pisses everyone else off.
I'm fine with secondary units and Gundams, but we will never see them at this rate.
>>
>>31723125
Bandai uses ABS to make the majority of their model kits. The Plavsky Particles should accept custom print jobs just fine.
>>
>>31723097
I think we need merc to step in and tell us if some of the stuff they have been saying is legal or not
>>
>>31723097
I didn't mean it to be a joke. I'm sorry for insinuating that it was not my intention.

We can at least ask about that, do we have a rulebook against this?

If we can't then I'll drop it but we should check if it's legal or not.

if we can do it, let's use that idea.

the rules for customizing gunpla seem to be vague if I recall gundam build fighters.
>>
>>31723001

Actually no.

In the show itself, the Gundam Double X launches with a full squadron of Gundam X Bits.

Now those were full MSs but were legal in the GWBC

Well... it WAS a high ranking Gunpla fight. Plus, it would give you an opportunity to get eyes on the competition, if nothing else. You follow the crowd to the gym, where you see quite a large audience has already gathered. At the center of the field were a bunch of students standing around the central battle table, with the school's Gunpla judge overseeing the fight.

"FIGHTERS!" He bellows "THIS WILL BE A 3v3 BATTLE! ARE YOU READY!?"

"The Thunderhawks are ready to drop!" One of the students nods.

"The Gunpla Club is ready." Another student says.

"All right then, place your Gunpla!"

You see all six fighters step forward and place their Gunpla on their respective launch platforms.

THUNDERHAWK TEAM
DELTA CUSTOM, BYARLANT CUSTOM 01, BYARLANT CUSTOM 02

VS

GUNPLA CLUB
UNICORN GUNDAM, TURN A GUNDAM, STRIKE FREEDOM GUNDAM

BEGINNING PLAVSKY PARTICLE DISPERSAL

FIELD: FOREST

You see the field generate, and right away, the Gunpla Club is already on the move.

NTD ACTIVATED

MOONLIGHT BUTTERFLY ACTIVATED

FULL BURST SYSTEM ACTIVATED

The whole thing is over in the blink of an eye. The Delta Custom is cut to pieces by the Unicorn, the Byarlant 01 is disintegrated by the Moonlight Butterfly, and the Barlant 02 makes a valiant effort to dodge the attacks, but gets nailed by no less than three beam weapons from the Strike Freedom.

That... that wasn't even a battle!

And what REALLY made you mad was that the gathered students had the gall the CHEER. What the fuck!? Did they really enjoy such a shitty battle like that?!?

Disgusted, you stomp out the gym and head for the exit, where you see Holly waiting for you.

Hey, Jack!" Holly waves, and then blinks. No doubt she saw you were in a foul mood. "Is something wrong?"

Exactly!

Its not even about the RB-79, it's about optimizing the GM as a whole, their is so many ways to enhance it's performance, maybe turning it into a GMII since their is not much change, it's versatile and giving different parts can suit any battlefield.

The RB-79 is a support platform which given a few unique idea myself, and other anons made, we can swap them up to suit the battle, and have them support us to do battle.

I want to see how far our GM can go, I want to see what ideas we can do to make it better.

Yes but I think the GBF system would differentiate between ai controlled balls and ai controlled funnels.

Especially since it can keep track of differing technologies like planet defensors, and bits in the same battle.

A system specifically designed to affect psycomm weapons should then only affect psycomm developed weapons and thus place them under the control of the unicorn.

If we get a unit 2 GM custom we will need a beam rifle to fall back on after we fire e nuke

It's from one ridiculously long Gundam Seed fanfic, starting just after the first series ends. Everything keeps escalating. It's actually got some neat idea, it's just that the author really needs to tone things back. For example, the end of the last major arc featured the entire biosphere of Earth being mutated into Newtypes. And I mean ENTIRE. Even the plants. One of the factions is lead by a sapient tree. Also, one of the villains is just trying way too hard to be dark and evil. Even his name sounds like something a twelve year-old would make up to sound cool. "Zacharis Frost". Ugh.

Anyway, Kira goes full edgelord in it, after he thinks Lacus has been killed by his government. He betrays his friends, joins the enemy faction for revenge, and gets an utterly overpowered Gundam. It's invulnerable to beam weapons, can manipulate gravity, has swords that can cut through any physical material, and its wings can detach and separate into a swarm of over seventy beam shield funnels. Oh, and of course it has tons of beam spam. It's not a Kira Yamato mecha without beam spam. It's so overpowered that his opponents need to invent the setting's equivalent of Evangelions just to keep up.

"That's sounds pretty boring." Holly frowns.

"What really got me was that most of the school THOUGH THAT WAS A GOOD BATTLE."

The both of you make your way over the Hobby Shop, where you see the rest of the team has already gathered.

"From the look on your face..." Karen sighs. "I take you saw today's ranked match?"

"Yeah. You knew?"

"Of course. I've seen enough Gunpla Club matches to know the result." Karen shakes her head. "I've honestly stopped bothering watching them."

"How could people LIKE that?"

"They don't know anything else, really." Karen shrugs. "All they see are the school matches and whatever clips they get from Youtube and ESPN. I doubt the large majority of them even battle much themselves."

"How bad was it?" Mac asked.

"You could have just turned you head to cough and you would have missed it."

"Daaaaaamn."

"All right, let's focus, team." Karen claps her hand. "Now, I've already talked to Mason, and he's given me a list of upcoming tournaments we can join."

"Seems like the 3v3 tournament would be right up our alley." You say. "That seems to be how they run most of the ranked matches at school, right?"

"Correct." Karen nods. "In that case, with the 6 of us, we can enter as two separate teams. That would increase our odds of getting the prize."

"Isn't that a bit unethical?" Jake asks quizzically.

"As long as we don't throw matches to favor each other and give it our all, I don't see any issue." Karen says calmly. "If we do end up facing against each other, I will not give you any special treatment."

"Same here." Lucina grins. "It would be shame to miss out on a good fight."

"So, the question is how to arrange the teams..." You mutter.

Obsidian Overflag is great in melee and is suitable for all environments. "Ah, yes! I nearly forgot!" Karen steps forwards and hands you a small stack of bills. "This is our current club treasury. It's rather small since we just started, but it's something."

"Wow... thanks." You blink. Counting up the funds, combined with your own personal funds, you reckon you've got about $600 worth of spending cash.

"Hey, Mason, you still have that part catalog?"

"Sure do." Mason nods. "It's a bit sparse at the moment, but I'm planning on expanding the selections in the future. If you don't find what you need, I can always try custom ordering it for you.

"Thanks." You nod.

SHOP LIST: http://pastebin.com/q64da8Jz

NOTE: All Gunpla come with a certain number of equipment "slots" or hardpoints they can store gear on.

For humanoid Gunpla, you can hold one weapon or shield in each arm. You also get one close combat weapon for free. You have two hardpoints on the shoulders, and one hardpoint on the back. You also have a hardpoint in the interior of the torso. Some items will not take up hardpoints. These will be explicitly stated.

You can take additional hardpoint equipment equal to your Gunpla's Strength rating before it begins to affect your Agility. However, please note that equipment still must be physically capable of fitting onto your Gunpla.

If you wish instead of adding on parts, you can try to order CONVERSION parts. Unfortunately, Mason doesn't have conversion kits ready just yet.

In addition, if you don't see anything on the shop list you want, you can attempt a CUSTOM ORDER. A custom order can be anything, but be warned, it will be on the pricey side, depending how rare/complex the part you're ordering is.

2x Autocannon

Autocannon Balls come with 2 autocannons. This upgrades the firepower by 50% on each ball, giving them more striking power.
>>

Oh nice
Well then
>Dual Band Radar - $200: Significantly increases a Gunpla's detection capabilities.
>2 Vulcan Cannon - $100: While it has much lower stopping power, the vulcan cannon's strength is in its insane fire rate, which even the fastest Gunpla would have trouble avoiding.
For our balls
>Countermeasure Suite - $100: When in danger, the countermeasure suite can be activated, which deploys a combination of flares, smoke, sensor chaff, and anti-beam chaff. Can only be used twice in a battle. Does not take up a hardpoint.
Which leaves us with $100 dollars left over

>Okay, so it's decided! All $600 are to be used for 2 beam rifles and 1 dual band radar!

You quickly purchase some parts and get to work straight away, clipping them off their sprues and trying to figure out how to best fit them where you want them. For the balls, it was a no brainer. You popped the dual autocannons off the top, and used a pin to secure the beam rifles. You then cracked open your Juggler's chest cavity and carefully inserted the dual band radar system inside, making sure to glue it securely to the interior.

Looking at your work, you realize that you know have four sets of extra autocannons. You could use those to replace the Balls' arms. It would require some custom mounting, but you think you can handle it...

If we gain the capacity to mount additional balls in the future I might suggest returning the arms.

Could give us a finisher/desperation move where concealed Balls move in and use their arms to temporarily immobilize an enemy suit, allowing us to have a clear shot at its cockpit.

Eh, why the hell not. It's not like those dinky little things have done them any good anyways. You deftly but carefully remove both Balls' arms. Using some of the leftover sprue materials, you manage to fashion a suitable mount to attach the autocannons to the arm joints. You're not skilled enough to make it fully movable, though, so the autocannons are merely locked in a forward facing position. However, it was a lot better than nothing, and with the Ball's design and compact center of gravity, it could spin around pretty fast anyways.

Satisfied with your work, you see the store's battle table lit up. At the same time, you see the sun beginning to set. Goddamn, the time must have really flown.

Hm, it was actually getting rather late. Mom would kill you if you brought Holly home after dark. You quickly pack up your tools and the Juggler and head over to the store aisles, where predictably, Holly was gauging whether she wanted to buy more Balls or eat lunch tomorrow.

"No, Holly, you are NOT starving yourself for more kits." You scold her, pulling on her ear. "Now come on. Mom's going to kill us if we get home too late."

"Okay..." Holly sighs and reluctantly puts the Ball box back on the shelf.

As you exit the store, you give Mason a wave. You also pass by the table and see Lucina and Karen battling. However, you don't have a good enough view to see exactly how the fight is going. They both looked too engrossed in the battle, to notice you leave, and you didn't want to disturb them, either, so you settle with waving at Mac, who gets your message.

As you walk home, you show Holly your new modifications to the Juggler and its Balls.

"Oh wow!" Holly smiles as she looks at the newly modelled Balls. "You gave them some serious firepower!"

"Yeah, I figured they could use a bit more punch. Autocannons are nice against small fry, but beam weapons are better for dealing with the heavier stuff."

"Ain't that right." Holly grins. "You know, Jack, I think I'm going to try my hand at the 1v1 tournament."

Set it up so we can extend to rapidly during a close fight. If we can include the claw floded up as well, that would be nice. But either way sharpen it and make it heat, either a heat-spike or a heat-claw. give us a little extra surprise in melee.

Maybe the claw on the shield arm to offer some melee while wearing the shield, and the spike on the other in an assassin's creed type way.

Decent idea.

The way I see it, we could narrow it down to three general loadouts easily enough: Dakka skirmisher (our current one, cannons+beams), Rapey ball of buzzsaws (your suggestion, roughly), and I'm also partial to the Bazooka Shield idea just to make them a general pain in the ass for when they need to run interference.
>>
>>31727120
I'm still hoping to do the Mine/Funnel ball combo
>>
>>31727133
Sticking funnels in them is getting a bit too matryoshka doll for my tastes, though having minelaying capacity could be really interesting if we also grabbed a camo cloak and ECM to go full guerrilla warfare on someone.

Kinda niche though, I don't see it being used all that often compared to just loading them up for various direct combat roles.

I like this trio of loadouts.
Particularly since I suggested the bazooka shields.
What would be good to mix with those?
Bazooka Shield, Vulcans, ECM, &.. Defensors?
Maximum pain in the butt.
>>
>>31727347
I almost think a cloak would work better with the ECM that way we can stealth troll and set up effective ambushes or cut off teams who have separated.

And now to wait for next week. It will be a painful and long one...
>>
I kind of think we should do mid-range utility at some point. Give our gunpla some solid fire power and shielding and give one ball a good shield/ CQC focus and have the other running long range fire support

If we do a CQC build though we HAVE to be all thrusters and cloaks and have our balls be whirling dervishes of laser knives.
>>
>>31727407
I think the idea of the shield variant is to be constantly pestering the opponent, whether by fouling their attacks or laying on some moderate firepower. The ECM would be there just to foul their sensors while they're distracted by the ShieldBalls, not to hide the Balls themselves, because we WANT them noticing the annoying ass Balls as much as possible.

Now that I think about it, anti-beam cloaks might be a solid investment for the Shield versions, because that shield isn't going to help much against beam weaponry. Give them the ability to at least take a beam without evaporating in a puff of smoke.
>>
Harpoon board game fag here, my autism is acting up.

"Cloaking," or "stealth," is avoiding being detected in the first place.

"ECM," or "jamming," or anything like that involves with or relates to creating a false signal that masks, hide, distorts, or generally modifies your own.

One involves not being there, the other involves creating fake data.

Fairly big difference.
>>
>>31727506
... an excellent point. A shield is worthless if it cannot survive being struck.

The week waits between quests kills me since I want to keep playing and messing around since I have no modeling or painting skills and gunpla are pretty damn expensive to start with.
>>
>>31727546
I bought one on ebay, after shipping, for like 30 bucks.

It's not so bad.
>>
>>31727478
I'm not sure we'll ever actually do a hard melee build with the Juggler, it's just not up to spec for it honestly. Not sure we'd ever do a hard melee build period considering our team is kinda melee heavy already.

Angry choppy death orbs have plenty of uses that aren't requisite on the GM also being melee focused.
>>
>>31727572
I might have to do that. Truth be told I'm not really super into gundam, I just like building things when I get the opportunity to and gunplas seem to be pretty interchangeable for parts which should make customs look a little better and more natural since I'm not that great with greenstuff or making custom parts or rigs.

I think I have an old model from epcot a few decades back that I never built. A treded troop carrier I believe.
>>
>>31727612
Fair enough. Using the balls to cover our weaknesses is a good idea anyway. Not to mention mixing and matching them.
>>
Harrassment ball:
Standard ball
1x solid slug hi powered rifle replacing an arm
Anti beam coating
Camo cloak
Missile pod

Purpose of this build is to harrass at long range. Camo cloak allows it to hide while solid slug ammunition allows the ball to not give away its location when it open fires. Anti beam coating will provide defence and missiles will facilitate trapping the opponent, either keeping it at range or stopping it from escaping.

This sneaking configurarion can keep up constant pressure on an enemy unit and can force a breakup in the tempo of a battle between two opponents, possibly allowing a slip up to be made and mistakes to be capitalised on or for an allied unit to escape while allowing the ball some measure of stealth.
>>
Ok, so tentative Ball builds based on those three archetypes.

Dakka: Autocannon (arm 1), Autocannon (arm 2), Beam Rifle (top), unsure on internal. Sensors perhaps?

Shield: Bazooka Shield (arm 1), Big Shooty Vulkan Cannon (arm 2), Anti-beam cloak (top), ECM (internal)

Choppy: 2x melee weapon arms, rocket booster, unsure on internal.

Obviously all versions can mount a Countermeasure Suite as money allows, since it doesn't take up a hardpoint so we may as well slap one on if we've got the cash. Same goes for Panzerfausts, they also don't chew a hardpoint and an extra missile never hurts.
>>
>>31724605
Ok so our team is Melee, Mid-range, Sniper and the other team is Mid-range, Mid-range, Firepower
Might work out. Might.

>>31727718
I honestly don't think we'll need an all melee build as others have said. Maybe a ball config we can swap to tops. In any case we need more claws.
>>
I kind of want us to do a build (non juggler) where we just blast in on jets/ cloaks and start shot gunning and grenade launching people in the face.

Deathscythe Rozen isn't really a sniper, she's got a rifle built into the scythe but both the suit itself (it's still a Deathscythe variant) and her stats lean more towards close combat, she's just not utterly incapable of shooting things like the Obsidian Overflag is.
>>

Ok ok; for some reason I thought she had converted the scythe into a heavy rifle more or less turning it into a big ass sniper with a blade on it. Ya I guess we're going to have to be the ranged/ distraction guy in this fight which works thanks to the power of ball. automated turrets are the worst thing to deal with ever.
>>
>>31727757
The melee balls will be useful on very cluttered fields (like that debris field, should we fight someone who isn't a melee rapist there), and generally for flushing out opponents who want to play hide-and-seek with us.

We'd never use them while teamed up with the Overflag since they'd be redundant with her absurd amount of chop-chop, but if we end up teamed with the Tusker we'll be able to send them in to flush the enemy while we sit back waiting for them to pop their heads out so we can drown them in beams and missiles.
>>
I wonder how much will self destruct charges cost.

We make these balls an absolute bitch to deal with at range and enemies will always try to close with and destroy. Thats always been the historical weakness of balls, weak when in close.

They when they slice they up, the balls explode with a very big bang, probably damaging the enemy's suit as well.

>Other team surfs in on Tusker for dynamic entry or Tusker gives heavy cover fire to clear the approach leaving Tusker defenseless/ useless when the other two party members are engaged.
I've seen worse.

>>31727859
A build I've been playing with in my head is to fit one of our balls with melee and shielding and maybe a light range weapon to fluch out; our gunplay for a mid-range jack-of-all, and our other ball for an automated heavy sniper.
>>
>>31727864
I'd worry more about repair work at that point. Any internally-mounted explosive with enough oomph to actually damage a nearby Suit probably vaporize the poor Ball.

Also our imouto would kick us in our balls. No, not our gunpla ones, our actual ones, for daring to use them like that.

>>31727880
I'm curious if having them performing different roles will actually be worth it. Regardless of what we equip them with, they're still kinda stupid, and they're still Balls, so having them both doing the same thing adds a needed level of redundancy as far as I'm concerned.
>>
>>31727864
>We make these balls an absolute bitch to deal with at range and enemies will always try to close with and destroy. Thats always been the historical weakness of balls, weak when in close.
If that happens, we can always get one of our girls to hang back to support us just in case they do try something
>>
>>31727880

I'm not disputing that the lineup is workable. Just that the roles the anon assigned to the suits was wrong.

I especially wanted the guntank on the other team to give them ranged support. Thats why I voted for the rozen.
>>
Actually, here's an idea, for the close assault variant we could go with a Spike Shield + Beam Spray Gun.

I know the idea of a whirling DeathBall made of laser blades is really cool, but that would probably be way more practical for the whole "storming the trenches" kinda work they'd likely be doing.
>>
>>31727946
Why not double up on spike shields? Wade through the trenches like a boxer on the defensive until we're close enough?
Still though we have a bit too much melee on our team to worry about that sort of thing.
If anything we should be discussing good range builds.

>>31727908
I don't know that pincer move we pulled in the debris field was a solid tactical maneuver.
>>
Ok I think I might buy my first kit this weekend. Anyone have any good/ cheap starter models they could recommend?
>>
Guys.

How about.

GN Ball.

Ball Trans Am.

No one will see it coming.
>>
>>31728048

HGUC Zaku 2.

Or Ground Type GM.

Ground type GM has alot of weapons to have fun with.
>>

Thanks I'll check those out. I kind of suck with modeling; but from what I've seen the kits seem pretty interchangeable and seamless when it comes to switching up parts and what not which is good because I've caught the robot building bug something fierce and armored core is just too much of a hard core game for me to enjoy so I've got to go physical.
>>
>>31728086
I'd recommend the MS-06b Gouf Custom personally.

Also most of the kits come pre colored. You just glue them for the most part so if you want to try and do any custom work you'll most likely need to use primer and then paint the parts yourself so it looks right.

Try a regular kit first though before you get crazy. You might not find it to your liking or making customs might be outside your skill range, so start small.

>Why not double up on spike shields?
Zero range, not hugely threatening unless the enemy in question is both too slow to escape and for some reason also can't just shoot them to death on the approach. Shields or no, it's still a Ball.

The reasoning behind the Spray Gun is that Beams are always pretty threatening, and it'll allow them to be a pain in the ass regardless of who the target is thanks to the good rate of fire. The Spike Shield is just there for the standard shield durability boost, and as a deterrent/last resort against enemies trying to get uppity and punch the poor Ball to death.
>>
>>31728116
I'm talking a ballless kit. My mistake, should have been more clear on that in that I completely omitted that fact.
Alternitivly we COULD use balls and have them lay down cover fire.
>>
>>31728115
Thanks I'll check that one out too.

>>31728061
We're talking the RGM-79G GM Ground Type model right? $40 is a bit much for my first kit at the moment.
>>
>>31728150
Ok god I started browsing Amazon... so many kits... so cheap... can't buy them all... I'm drowning /tg/ I am drowning.
>>
>>31728150

I hope you're looking at the HGUC 1/144 kit.

That ones cheap. The MG 1/60 is very good too but expensive.
>>
>>31728136
Ok yeah, we were having some impressive miscommunication there.

I was referring to Balls when I was talking about the Shield+Spray Gun, as an alternative to the whirling meleeball (which is cool in theory but absurd and impractical).

We'll need a close assault variant for clearing tight spaces, especially on cluttered space fields or urban environments. Basically the idea is if an angry Ball with a shield and spray beam pops around the corner, the enemy will either have to scamper to a new location or get in a close-range fight with a rapid fire beam weapon wielded by a disposable drone and hope they can kill it before it punches holes in them, neither of which are particularly good choices. Meanwhile we're still lurking out there somewhere waiting to blow their head off and/or beam saber them to death while they're distracted fighting the SWAT-Balls.
>>
>>31728190
Ok ya; that is much more my speed in terms of complexity and pricing. Might have to pick it up along with that Gouf Custom... and maybe a weapon pack
These look FAR more accessible than I was anticipating coming from the gams workshop side of model kits.
>>
>>31728198
If we can up their AI this seems like a solid choice. A lot of people want to do the front man/ sweeper roll for our jugglers ball system which I'm not opposed to.

>>31728222
If you want series to check out; the first two threads list some good starting points.
>>
>>31728222
If you plan on doing any custom work... stay on the same scale. 1/144 is the most common.
>>
>>31728222

Check out the build fighter weapon packs.

The zaku amazing booster pack has a shit ton of weapons.
>>
>>31728288
Ya I'm actually surprised how convenient doing custom work seems to be. No wonder my old roommate was obsessed with these.
I love the look of the Zaku's and I really want to take my old Zaku transport unit kit I got as a kid from my parents house next time I visit them.

This quest really gets me in the mood for robots and I love you guys for it.

>>31728260
Noted.

>>31728234
I'll check it out. I've seen a few episodes from different series, but it's never been something I've sat down and watched from start to finish. That'll change though.

Thanks for the good times guys, but I'm afraid I need sleep since it's 6:30AM here and I've got stuff to do tomorrow... like raid the local hobby shop.

Wrong kit bro.
>>
>>31728379

Well I did say booster pack since that anon was looking at a weapons pack.

Though he could also just get the zaku amazing kit and get all the weapons too at the same time.
