You are a young doctor, You are a young human doctor, abducted by the K'tulu, and recently released by demand of the Galactic Senate. You're in the midst of a pirate raid on the transport ship that is supposed to be taking you to Velik Leis, last epsisode you put together a plan that requires you to move through the ventilation system of the ship in order to flank your enemies on the bridge, as well as assembled a team to do so. Now you are just about to reach your access point, having broken off from the diversion force about ten minutes ago.

An overwhelming silence, broken only by the sound of your footsteps, has descended upon your team as you lead them through the empty corridors of the transport ship. Everybody involved with the flanking mission, even the loudmouthed Johnny, is clearly nervous about what you're going to find when you finally breach the vents and start making your way through them. Even with the threat of possibly running straight into a death trap hanging over all of your heads though, there's no a single one of you that isn't surprised and somewhat appreciative when you finally see your access point.

"That...is one big freakin' vent..." Johnny says somewhat disbelievingly while letting out a low whistle.

Abigail nods in agreement, drawing a couple of surprised looks, "While I 'ate to agree wiz anyzing 'ee says, 'ee is right. Zat zing is massive!"

You're glad that you've got your helmet on to hide your face at the moment, because if you didn't then there would be no hiding the smirk on your face, while the rest of your team openly laughs at the unappreciative glare your suit-wearing member shoots at the French girl.

"Gee thanks, Abbi, I really appreciate your supportive commentary." He mutters under his breath, just loud enough for your team to hear him, though nobody bothers to reply to him, least of all you or Abigail.

You shake your head and let out a sigh as you step forward, letting your shotgun hang from its' sling, and grip one side of the gigantic vent cover built into the while Freida does the same to the other side. The two of you share a quick look, you taking a deep breath, before ripping the cover outwards and jumping back to the sides as it comes crashing down into the hallway, making your head swivel to both sides of the hallway, half expecting to see a squad of pirates come running around the corner.

Thankfully the marauding aliens never appear, leaving you to step up to the waist-high hole in the wall and gaze into the vent warily. You note that it's wide enough for two Humans to walk through almost shoulder to shoulder while being tall enough that you'll not have any issues with hitting your head...not that you really expected to in the first place seeing as how you've never had that issue, being as short as you are.

"Alright guys, we only have to be in the vents for a little while before they'll let us out into the cafeteria. From there we'll be able to get into the hall that will take us to the opposite side of the bridge...you guys ready?"

You look back at them just in time to see Jaye shrug nonchalantly, "I'm as ready as I'll ever be to run through a little space a bunch of people before jumping out and stabbing aliens, Boss."
>>
>>31827256
Well...fair enough, you suppose. You turn back to the vents and move to enter them, letting out a small grunt as you crawl up onto the ledge, extending your hand to help Freida up before staring carefully along them as the rest of your team helps each other into the hole. Your mind races as you try to decide the best way to move through this area. On one hand if you still don't know if the pirates have been through here from the other side of the vent, for all you know they could have trapped the place. But then again if they were so concerned about guarding this vent then wouldn't hey have posted some actual guards here? A cursory glance doesn't lead to anything that immediately pops out at your eye, but you'll be the first to admit that you don't have a trained eye fro finding traps hidden in vents.
>Move through as fast as possible. It's important that you get to the bridge as soon as you can.
>Move through the vents at a quick pace, you need to be careful but you can't take too much time here.
>Move through the vents at a slow pace. While you need to get out of here quickly but you don't want to end up getting anybody hurt.

>23, 19, 19. (+1 from having Freida take point.) Great success!

You blow out a heavy breath before looking to your left, "Hey, uh, Freida, do you mind..."

The Israeli woman glances at you with an understanding nod, "Of course, Doctor, I understand." She says easily, before turn to address the your team. "Everybody stagger yourselves on the opposite side of the person in front of you. Keep your eyes open for anything out of place, and try to keep at least five meters between yourselves, but it may not be possible in here."

Having said that she moves out at a brisk pace, her eyes scanning the path in front of you with a professional's confidence. With her leading the way your team makes it most of the way through the vents without incident. However just as you're getting ready to round the final corner she suddenly comes to a stop while her hand snaps up into the air, balled up in a fist. "We've got something right around the bend, Doctor." She tells you simply, using the hand she'd raised up to point at whatever it is she sees.

Your eyes follow her direction, searching fruitlessly for a few seconds before finally picking out what it is that she's trying to show you. Just around the turn in the corner, barely visible from your perspective, you see two thin beams of light shining brightly against the opposite side of the vent from you. You can feel your heart rate increase significantly as you stare at it before swallowing and turning at her, finding that she's already looking at you patiently. "Do you have any idea what they are?"

Claymores they are, no idea how they work tho, laser might just be a decoy.

Best bet is to send someone first, see if they can bypass the laser.
>>
>>31828208
Now that I think about it, this setup is awfully obvious. No one paying attention would fall for it...

Let's check the ground for mines and tripwires.
>>
She shrugs noncommittally, "If I have to guess, then I'll say they're probably some kind of variant of a claymore mine. Break the beam and you'll set them off."

You nod in understanding, your gaze traveling back towards the beams, "So you think it's safe to get closer then? Try and get a better look at them?"

"Sure, I was going to suggest that we do that myself." She replies easily, slowly leading you up to just a few feet away from the mines.

Thankfully it looks like the pirates only set up these two right around the corner in an attempt to kill anybody blindly going around it, and it almost worked. To be honest you're almost certain that if you hadn't asked Freida to lead you through then you would have run straight into them, and you're not sure if your shields or armor would have held up to them. With that thought in your mind you blow out a relieved breath and look to her again, "Do you think you can disable them?"

She looks at you skeptically, raising an eyebrow as she does so. "Maybe...I have had training with explosives, but I'm obviously not familiar with these. They seem simple enough, I guess, but I'm not sure what kind of anti-tampering devices they might have on them." She explains simply, before motioning to the beams again. "I think it would be safer, and probably quicker, to just try to crawl under them. Whoever put these up was being sloppy, they left plenty of room at the bottom for us to move through. Probably didn't think anybody would actually try to come through here."

I be giving the pirates too much credit.

Smart thing would be laser beam decoy, Motion Sensor-tripped tripmines.
>>
Your eye travels to the area she motioned to, looking at it critically. You're pretty sure that she's right but at the same time it might not hurt to try and disarm them, if she thinks she can, plus those mines might be a nice thing to have, assuming you can figure out how to use them properly without blowing yourself up.
>Take her advice and crawl under the beams. It's the safest thing to do and you're not risking your team just for the possibility of getting a shiny new toy that you don't know how to use.
>Ask her to try and disable them anyways. She says that the pirates were sloppy, so maybe that means they didn't bother to engage the anti-tampering devices...assuming that's something you engage even. You don't know much about this.
>Check the area in front of you thoroughly before doing anything else. You trust Freida, but you just want to make double sure.

You don't say anything for several moments as you gaze intently down the passageway, doing your best to make sure that neither of you are missing anything else that could end your mission with an explosion of superheated plasma and shrapnel. You're just about to nod and turn back to your co-commander when your eyes catch something that make them narrow with suspicion. You crouch down and take a knee, your nerves uneasy at how close you are to those beams, "Jack, what-"

Freida's eyes widen in shock as she sees your hand hover just a few inches under the beam that she was suggesting you crawl under, her eyes obviously catching the thin, almost nonexistent, pressure plate that had previously blended in with the dark floor of the vent. "I think I might have found a problem with your idea, Freida." You mutter quietly as she joins you in crouching near the mines before casting a glance at her, "Do you think you can fix this or do we need to figure something else out?"

The soldier swallows heavily, much like you'd done yourself a few moments earlier, "I...yes. I believe that I can disable that relatively easily, now that I know it is there." She replies heavily, a guilty look in her eyes, "I'm sorry I did not see that myself, Doctor. If you had followed my suggestion then surely we would have been injured greatly, at the very least."
(1/2)
>>
>>31829057

I figured some sort of detection sensor would've been more appropriate, rather then a pressure plate in a starship vent.
>>
You raise a hidden eyebrow at the woman's apology, as well as her declaration that she can disarm the plate. While she did miss it earlier she does sound confident that she can take care of it, and she is the one that saw the trip mines in the first place so you probably shouldn't doubt her. Of course this is just as much of an unknown to you as the mines themselves, so maybe you should just have her try to disarm them to be safe. Either way, she's looking rather ashamed of her near-tragic mistake.
>Let her disarm the pressure plate and lead your team under the beams. Let her know that it's no big deal and that you're not going to start doubting her expertise just because she missed something that you barely caught yourself.
>Let her disarm the pressure plate and lead your team under the beams. Tell her to make sure she gets it right, there'll be time to talk to her about how you feel about this later, when you don't have listening ears.
>Have her disarm the mines. Tell her it's not that you don't trust her, after all you're having her work with explosives five feet from her, you'd just be more comfortable with the mines being out of the equation. Of course this will take longer than the pressure plate.
>Have her disarm the mines. As far as you're concerned this is safer, and you're not ready for a mistake that will cost your team their lives. There'll be time to talk to her about how you feel about this later, when you don't have listening ears. This will, of course take longer than the pressure plate.

You nod and push yourself back into a standing position to take a few steps back while motioning to the plate, "You're the expert, Freida, I trust your judgement. One time of not catching something that I just barely did isn't going to change that."

The Israeli woman nods to you, a relieved look replacing the apprehensive one that had dominated her face just moments before. "Thank you, Jack. I appreciate your confidence in me." She replies gratefully, before turning to start disarming the hidden trigger. You decide that it would be best to let her work without the potential for you distracting her and take just a few more steps back before turning to look at your team, noticing that while Tom looks completely comfortable and Jaye seems to be at least calm, if nothing else, Johnny and Abigail are looking at you uncomfortably.

"Is zere somzing wrong, Doctor?" The redhead asks quietly, eying your co-commander as she works.

You shake your head calmly, "No, we're alright. We've just ran into a little hold-up. Freida's taking care of it now." You reply easily, noting that your answer seems to have calmed both of them down a bit.

"Ah, good, good. See, I knew it was no biggie. It's gonna take a whole lot more than a couple of little bombs to stop us right, Doc?"

Despite your general dislike for the obvious glory hound, you can't help but be at least a little amused by his comment, "Yeah, Johnny, I'm sure it'll take some more...maybe three or four. Just two wouldn't be enough to take out your ego." Reece shoots back at him, bringing forth another round of chuckles at the suited man's expense, though he seems to take it well enough this time. Or at least he doesn't bother to argue with him anyways.

It looks like you've got a bit of time before you're going to be able to move on with the mission. You figure that you could relax a little and talk to your team, try to get to know them a little better, but you're also pretty sure that Angelicia and Hans would appreciate a progress report, since you're going to be taking a little longer than originally expected to get to the bridge.

I'm pretty sure the first thing Angelica did when she gathered a group to assault the bridge was to change the radio frequency so we wouldn't be on the pirate's channel.
>>
"Alright guys, it probably won't be too long, so just sit tight, alright?" You say shortly, turning to take a look at Freida's progress before before reaching up and tapping your helmet to engage your comm system. You shift impatiently for a few moments as the connection tone drones on longer than normal before straightening up when you hear it finally connect to the shared frequency that Hans and Angelicia set up for your team.

The moment the line opens up you can hear the deafening roar battle, gunfire and shouting nearly drowning out Hans' voice as he shouts into your ear, "Vat? Vat is it? Are you srough zee fents already?"

You wince slightly at the noise in your ear, but shove the discomfort to the back of your mind as you shake your head, "No, we've run into a small hold-up. The pirates trapped the vent with some mines, but Freida's working to bypass it right now." You answer calmly, before continuing as you see the Israeli mouth something to you. "Ah, she says it'll take about five more minutes, but after that we shouldn't have any problems. We can see the access point to the cafeteria from here."

There's a small delay in Hans' response as he suddenly shouts something angrily in German before finally turning his attention back to you. "Very vell. I vill make sure zat ze Princess knows about it." He replies quickly, before cutting off his end of the conversation before you can say anything else about it. You're about to do the same when you suddenly hear the racket return, followed by your friend's voice.

"I heard your report, Doc, you sure you guys are good to keep moving past it?" She asks, your ear ringing as she's forced to shout just as loud as the German man.

"Yeah, we're good. I just wanted you guys to know that we were going to be a little later to the party than we expected." You say, quickly, "We should be good after this, assuming we don't run into any of our friends on our way to the Bridge."

I find it very strange that our doc doesn't seem stressed at all by this situation.
The whole plan, and by extension, the survival of every single person on this ship depends on him, a person with absolutely no military background. If he's not just a textbook action hero, he should AT LEAST have butterflies in his stomach.
>>
>>31830822
Don't worry. He'll probably have a nervous breakdown after he doesn't have to have his shit together anymore.
>>
"Ah, good then. In that case I should go, as much fun as I like you, I'm not ready to get my ass shot just to talk to you on on the phone." She quips shortly, before cutting the call off much as Hans done before her.

With that done you kill your own end of the call, glancing at your co-commander as you do so. "Still going alright?"

"Yes, it is almost done. Just a couple more minutes and we should be ready to get through." She replies easily, not bothering to look up from her work.

You nod satisfied, "Good. You're doing good work, Freida, thank you."

Freida finally does take a moment to look at you with that, offering you a grateful smile, "Thank you, Doctor."

You nod again in response, before turning back to your team, "Well guys, I'm sure you heard me, we'll be moving again soon. Once we-"

Before you can finish your sentence your attention is stolen by the sound of your communicator beeping shrilly as Lizzie's picture pops up on to your HUD, making you blink in surprise. You shake your head, confused at why the little girl would be calling you now of all times. There's a little part of you that's afraid it could be that she's calling you because she's in trouble, but surely that can't be the case. You left her with Tobias and you know that he's more than capable of protecting her, having proven his proficiency in combat enough that he was gifted his scarf just the same as you and Freida were. That little nagging voice just won't quite be quiet though.
>Answer the call. It could be an emergency, not that you'd be able to do much to help her right now but still. Even if it's not you don't want to just ignore her when she's obviously in a fragile state.

Looks like I'm writing to answer the call. Response time will be a bit off, as I've got to take a quick break.

You force yourself to take a calming breath before answering the call. It wouldn't do either of you any good if you suddenly broke down and started panicking just because the little girl is calling you while you're in the middle of a mission. While it takes you a minute, you eventually answer the prompt and within a few seconds afterwards you hear the familiar beep followed by a somewhat timid voice, "Doc? Can you hear me?"

Your team gives you an odd look as you adopt a gentle voice, "Hey, Lizzie, I'm here. Is everything okay? Where's your brother?" You ask steadily, though inside your mind is working overtime as it imagines all of the possible scenarios as to why she could be calling you right now.

"Oh...uh, yeah, everything's alright, I guess. Tobias is still in the living room, he let me come into my room." Lizzie answers, still speaking quietly, obviously upset about something. Still, now that you know she's not in any immediate danger you feel yourself relax...well as much as you can in the current situation anyways.

That said, you're not exactly in a position to talk to her right now, and if she's not in trouble then it might be best to talk to her later. Of course you do still have a minute or two left before you can move on, so you could ask her why she's calling you if nothing's wrong. Either way you're going to have to make this brief, you can't afford to let yourself get distracted from the mission.

"I'm glad to hear that you're alright, Lizzie, but I'm a bit busy at the moment..." You say carefully, trying not to upset her more than she already is. You're about to continue and ask her if you can just call her back once you're done with what you're doing until you hear her sniffle. A small sigh forces its way from your lips as you finally speak back up, "Hey, hey don't cry, Liz. I was just going to say that I can talk to you for just a little bit, but I don't have very long. Okay?"

You hear another sniff from the other side of the line, though it seems to be less desperate than the last one, "M'kay..."

"Alright, good...so if you didn't call me because you needed my help then what's wrong?" You ask quietly, glancing at your team again seeing that they've finally went back to talking amongst themselves rather than trying to listen in on you, or at least they're pretending not to eavesdrop anyways.

There's a small pause in the conversation after your question, and you're almost about to ask if she's still there when she finally speaks up again, "I...I just wanted to know where you and Angel were..." She answers quietly, as if she's afraid she's going to get in trouble, "You said you were going to go get her but that was a long time ago...I asked Tobias if he could call you and he said no, that you were probably busy, but then he just went and sat down to watch the door some more so I came in here and called you anyways."

So that's what this is about. You weren't sure if she'd understood earlier when you said you were going to go and meet up with Angelicia, apparently she still thought that you were going to be going back to their room after you got to her. "Ah...I see. Well I'm glad you were thinking about us, Lizzie, but I promise we're both okay. We're just going to be gone for a while longer, we're trying to help stop the people that are attacking the ship, alright?"
(1/2)
>>
You can almost hear the apprehension evaporate from her voice as she hears that, replaced by just a little bit of excitement, "Oh...so you're going to stop the bad guys that are hurting people? Like that one that was in here earlier?!"

While you're glad that she's calmed down a bit you feel a little bit uneasy at the slight hint of hero worship you hear in he voice, though you suppose at the moment there's nothing you can really do about it. You're about to answer when you hear Freida speak up for the first time a little while, "Jack, it's taken care of. We're ready to move whenever you are." She tells you patiently, though it's clear that it's time to end the call.

You nod your understanding to her before turning your attention back to the little girl on the other end of the line, "Alright, Lizzie, I've got to go now, okay? Why don't you go ahead and go sit back out there with your brother, I'm sure he'd appreciate the company." You tell her gently.

There's a small amount of disappointment tinging her tone as she replies, though it's nothing like you expect it would have been if you'd just told her you couldn't talk to her, "Alright...bye, Doc."

"Goodbye, Lizzie. I'll talk to you again in a little while, okay?" You wait just long enough to get her confirmation before cutting the call and letting out a small sigh of exasperation, "Sorry about that, guys. You all ready?" There's a chorus of affirmative replies and you nod your head, "Alright then....let's get going, I guess. You want to take the lead again, Freida?"
(2/3 I guess.)

"Sure, I can do that." She replies quickly, before dropping down onto her stomach and leading the way under the beam, slowly raising herself up on to her knees once she's past it, "Everybody be careful as you go under. I've disabled the plate but if you break the beam then that's the end for us."

You, along with the rest of your team, nod at the warning before following her under carefully. It takes several minutes, but eventually everybody manages to get past it without incident, though you found yourself clenching your eyes shut as you watched Abigail nearly stick her leg through the laser. Still, close calls aside, you're past the trap now and your access point to the cafeteria is just a few meters in front of you. You and Freida approach the cover carefully, peering out through it at the room in front of you.

While you're disappointed to see that there are still a few pirates left in the dining hall, you're pretty sure that from the way they're shifting apprehensively that several of the guards were probably pulled to deal with the diversion force, leaving just a bare minimum of three guards standing with their gazes locked on the door, clearly expecting to have heard an explosion if anybody was coming through the vent.

You can already feel adrenaline starting to pump its way through you as you turn to look at Freida. "What do you think, surprise attack from in here?" You ask quietly.

She shakes her head slowly. "No...we'd only be able to get two of them at best before the last one had a perfect shot on us." She replies, before motioning towards the durasteel tables set up on their sides, "I'd say our best bet is to hit them as we kick out the vent and try to make our way to those tables for cover." She pauses for a moment before continuing, "I...guess we could could try to sneak out of here too, get up behind them before they know we're her, but I wouldn't bet on that."

Options coming up next.
>>
You guess that makes sense. Apparently, even with her experience, she's waiting for you to make the call...so what do you want to do?
>Take her first suggestion, bust out of the vent and hit them fast and hard. Hopefully there aren't any guards outside and you'll be able to take them out before having an easy trip to the bridge.

Its going to be difficult and risky but we can't afford getting drawn into a long firefight and alerting our presence to the enemy. We have to take these fuckers out and hit the bridge before the assualt team is lost to the frontal attack.

"Alright guys, we're going to try and do this quietly." You say quickly, looking to your team, "We don't have the time or resources for a long fight until we get to the Bridge. Let's try and be quick about this, but just...be careful, okay?"

The team nods slowly, clearly apprehensive about your decision but accepting it without argument. Having decided how you're going to go you move forward to the cover along with Freida, licking your lips nervously as the two of you push the vent out of the wall. While you nearly lose your grip on it twice you manage to get it set down on the floor with barely a sound.

By the time the two of you manage to slide yourselves silently to the floor you can feel your heart slamming away in your chest, but you think that you might actually be able to pull this off, even as Thomas and Jaye slide out of the hole in the wall themselves. You've just drawn your knife from your belt and are about to reach the guard you chose when the doors to the cafeteria burst open and all hell breaks loose. "You three, come wi-SHIT! VAAS BEHIND YOU!"

You can feel the blood drain from your face as the two pirates that just burst into the room raise their weapons at your team, while the three guards you'd planned on taking out silently spin around, their eyes wide in shock as they too fumble to bring their weapons to bear.

By the time the last guard has even managed to turn around you've already dropped your knife and are quickly trying to bring your own shotgun to bear as you immediately reverse and try to sprint behind cover. Unfortunately just before you manage to squeeze the trigger the roar of one of the pirate's own shotgun rips through the silence, which proves to be the final spark that ignites the powder keg. You're sent stumbling to your ass, just barely managing to make it behind cover as your HUD screams warnings without remorse. 'WARNING: SHIELD INTEGRITY COMPROMISED. TAKE IMMEDIATE COVER'
[Shield Strength: 13%]

You can hear both your team and the pirates shouting out in desperation as both sides scramble to find some kind of cover, rounds flying through the air wildly as they each do so. Looking around you can see that Tom's shield must have died completely at some point as there's a quickly spreading red stain on the left arm his jacket. Thankfully it doesn't seem to have effected him that badly yet, as he's still firing his light machinegun steadily, in an attempt to provide at least a little suppressing fire for the rest of the team.

It appears to be working, seeing as how you can't see any other obvious injuries on any of the others, thank god for small miracles at least. Turning your attention back to the pirates you see that the one that shot you is quickly managing to advance on your position, managing to avoid the broad pattern Thomas has laid out for you, while the other three are in various positions of cover across the dining hall. You grit your teeth angrily beneath your helmet and jump back to your feet, ready to end this fight before anybody on your side can get hurt worse than they already are.

"Tom! Get to cover, damn it!" You shout over the din of combat, looking away from your target just long enough to make sure the old man heard you, before trying to draw down on the bastard that just shot you only to have your eyes behind your HUD as you see that far from the three meters away from you that he was before, he's managed to close the distance and is now physically charging you, shoulder down.

Your shotgun roars as you desperately try to land a hit on him, only to have your shot fly just over his shoulder, your panic causing your aim to be off just enough to ruin your chances at ending his attack permanently. Moments later the massive pirate slams into you, forcing the air from your lungs and knocking you to the floor. In your breathless state you're helpless as he jumps on top of you, grabbing your head and beating it against the floor twice before grabbing the latches that seal your helmet to the rest of your suit and ripping them open, causing your vision to blur slightly as your HUD is suddenly torn away from your vision.

You blink up at the alien sitting on top of you, terror coursing through your being as see your knife clutched tightly in his meaty hands. Despite the debilitating fear that's seized your entire body, however, you manage to just barely dodge a killing blow from the pirate, rather you scream out in pain as your knife easily slices through the skin across your left cheekbone on the way down, cutting down to the bone, followed up by the blade cutting further along your cheek on the upstroke, just barely missing your eye and ending as it lifts off the bridge of your nose.

The feeling of blood flowing freely from the deep cuts, as well as the taste of it within your mouth, does very little to distract you from what you're sure is going to be your final moments as the alien slams his and down across your face, making you cry out in pain again as he growls at you. "STOP MOVING, DAMN IT!"

Even in the current circumstances the first response that pops into your head is a sarcastic retort, but you just can't seem to spit it out as you desperately struggle to try and free your arms from underneath the iron grip of the pirate's legs. As the alien raises the knife again, this time poised to swipe it across your throat, your eyes widen at the sight before you.

Moments before the knife is about to come down on you a blade coursing with burning plasma slices into your attacker's arm, just above the elbow joint, sending both it and the knife falling to the ground and ripping pained scream from him, shortly before he's silenced by the blade burying itself half-way into his neck. Purple blood sprays across your armor and face as the pirate collapses to the floor, sliding sideways off of you, not that you've got the time to take much of that in as in the next few seconds a strong hand has gripped your own and is pulling you up to your feet and shoving your shotgun back into your other hand.

"Come on, Boss, this isn't over yet!" Jaye shouts to you over the sound of gunfire and the screaming of one of the other aliens, as well as one of your own people. Your heart is still pounding its way from your chest as your eyes scan the dining hall, seeing that one of the pirates is laying on the floor, blood and bits of gray matter and bone spilling out of his head, while you can see that Johnny is sitting behind one of the tables with Freida leaning over him, trying to force a tourniquet up what's left of his right leg while he screams and squirms beneath her.

You immediately start moving towards your injured team member, only to have Reece grab your shoulder and force you back behind cover, "Not until this is over, Boss! That's the rules of CLS! Besides, Freida's got him right now!" He says, his words not quite registering at first as you stare back at him wildly. Finally, however long it takes, you realize what he's saying and nod in understanding. You don't have to like it but you force your mind to accept it as triage, rather than abandonment as you turn your attention back to the chaos of battle. While you've lost your HUD you manage see the shimmer of your shield as it comes back online before fading back out of view.
[Shield Strength at 75%]

From your position behind cover you can see the last two pirates left in the cafeteria, both of them similarly crouched down in an attempt to minimize the chances of them being hit. You realize that one of them is wounded and, from the way that he's just barely popping out of cover every once in a while to take shots at you and your team, you're pretty sure that his shield is down. Unfortunately he's on the far diagonal end of the room. You can also see another pirate that's closer to you leaning out with more frequency to try and get a good aim on one of your team members, while the last alien you can see in the dining hall is making a charge towards Johnny and Freida, obviously intent on taking your co-commander out of the fight permanently.

As for why we didn't give the shotgun to her, I'd presume that because she's Israeli, she more likely than not went through their mandatory IDF stint and therefore has better marksmanship skills than us.
And she already has her spear for close-range fighting.

The second your eyes lock on to the alien charging towards Freida and Johnny you drop your weapon, letting it hang on your its' sling as you snatch the plasma whip from your belt and race to intercept him. You're only a few steps away from him when you finally thumb the activation on the cylinder, drawing a wide-eyed stare from the pirate as he hears the loud hiss of the plasma extending from it.

A vicious snarl dominates your face as you snap the strand of burning plasma through the air, a thunderous crack sounding out across the cafeteria. Unfortunately your inexperience with the weapon, along with the way the pirate came screeching to a halt and took a desperate tumble to the floor to avoid the burning strand, sends your attack sailing widely over your head, not even catching him on the backswing. Thankfully, despite not managing to catch your target, your attack caused enough chaos across the room to distract the other pirates, allowing both Thomas and Abigail to score hits on the other two aliens, sending the one that was already wounded crumpling to the floor without even a sound while the shielded one merely is sent reeling from the shot to his shoulder that managed to break through his shield.

With your target scrambling backwards on the ground trying to reach cover and the other pirate shouting in pain as he ducks back behind his own poor excuse for cover, it looks like you may finally be able to take the advantage in this fight. You figure that it would probably be easy to try and finish off this one with your whip, or maybe by blasting him with your shotgun or pistol, if you were so inclined. Of course if you think your efforts are better spent concentrating on the wounded alien then you could do that too.

Choices coming up next post.

I'd rather try to focus on a gun that isn't a sidearm.
>>
>>31836679
It's also the gun that has holo-sights and targeting assistance for a +1.
And the pirates we're facing don't have mil-spec armor, or even LEO armor, so the pistol does just fine in destroying their shields (+2 in fact) and in killing them.
>>

Pistols are rather handy though. Unlike longarms they're compact and easy to store on your person.

Despite the obvious effects the sight of your whip has on your enemies, you can't help but think that it may be a waste of time, until you can figure out how to use it better at least. With that thought running through your head you quickly thumb the button on the cylinder and clip it back onto your belt before darting your hand up to your shoulder holster and drawing your Arc pistol with one smooth motion.

You step forward purposefully and aim down at the pirate remorselessly, seeing the his eyes widen in terror while he fumbles to bring his own weapon to bear on you. He never has the chance to fire off a shot though, as in that moment you pull the trigger four times in rapid succession of each other, the first ripping through his shields, the second and third slamming home into his chest, while the fourth rockets into his head with surgical precision, blowing out the back of his skull and making sure that, if the two to his chest hadn't done the job, he was for sure dead.

You stare down dispassionately at the pirate, watching blood pool around him while your own blood flows freely down your face, before swiveling to the right, bringing your weapon to bear again, as you hear more gunshots ring out through the room. Thankfully you see that rather than the injured pirate getting lucky, he found himself in a similar position, finding his end at the barrel of Abigail's own pistol. While you're tempted to comfort the girl, the sudden shock out of your daze from the execution you just delivered reminds you of the one critically injured member of your team, prompting you to turn on your heel and sprint around the durasteel table, hastily hitting the safety and shoving your pistol into it's holster as you do so.

Almost as soon as your eyes fall on Johnny, and the expression dominating Freida's face, you know what's happened. "He's gone..." It's not even a question, as it leaves your mouth, merely a statement. One that's confirmed by the pained look on your co-commander's face as she nods to you.

"Yes...he bled out before I could get the tourniquet on him correctly." She says quietly, sliding said device off his leg as she does so, clearly intending to re-use it, while looking over your shoulder at Thomas, who's already put a hasty bandage over the arm of the jacket covering his wound.

You glance at the old man's wound, making sure that it isn't fatal before bowing your head lowly, a somewhat sick feeling in the pit of your stomach at the loss of one of your team. Even if you weren't fond of Johnny, he volunteered, for whatever reason, to join this mission under your lead. There's a part of you that can't help but feel like this is your fault, that if you had done something even just a little differently, then maybe that douchebag would still be alive. Of course he knew the risks, as well as everybody else on this team, but the pain is still there...regardless of how you feel you know that there's still another, bigger and more important battle raging on outside of the bridge. If you're going to say something, then you'd better say it fast.
>Admit that you feel like this is your fault. Try to pass off command of the mission to Freida, in favor of somebody who actually knows what she's doing.

You shake your head regretfully. "This is my fault, guys...Freida's plan was obviously the better one, but I-" Before you can eve finish your sentence, however, Freida's already jumped up and pinned you against the bulkhead, her eyes burning intensely as stares you down.

"Don't." She growls dangerously, "Don't you dare start trying to pin this solely on yourself, Doctor. Your plan would have worked if the other ali-"

Your own face twists into a frustrated scowl that pulls painfully against the deep cuts across it. "Damn it, would you let me finish, Freida?" You shoot back dangerously, watching her eyes widen at your small burst of anger, before you take a deep breath and continue in a calm, if extremely sober, tone. "As I was going to say, Freida's plan might have worked out for the better, but that's not the one I chose. I chose to try and use stealth to get to the Bridge faster and more safely, and instead that plan turned to shit and not only probably wasted more of our time, but also got one of our team members killed. And I'm sorry about that. I really and truly am, but unfortunately we all knew the risks when we signed on to this mission and, while I may hold myself responsible for Johnny's death, I still believe that as long as all of you are willing to follow me into that fight, then I'm still capable of leading you through it. If any one of you doesn't believe that then that's fine, I'll step down and let Freida take charge of this mission, right now there are a lot of people on that diversion team fighting and most likely dying while they wait for us. So if any of you want to speak up then now's your chance, otherwise you had damned well better listen to me from here on out."
(1/?)
>>
There's a short silence after your quick speech while your team looks to each other as if trying to determine if there's anybody among them that have any doubts. You wait just a few more seconds before blowing out another heavy breath and stepping past them to pick up your helmet and jam it back onto your head, just barely managing to suppress a hiss as it rubs against your cheek. "Alright then...I hate to do this, but we need to make sure to take what we can use off of Johnny's body. I promise, if I can find out whether or not he has any family or friends here then I'll reimburse them for the ammo and give them back his weapons once this is over." You mutter quietly, watching numbly as Freida complies with your order, rooting through his pockets for his ammo and pistol, both of which she tosses to you, as well as the unfamiliar devices that he'd had clipped on his belt.

With that done, and once you've resealed your helmet as well as you can, you silently lead your out into the hall. You're surprised to find that, even with the small battle you just fought, there aren't any more pirates waiting for you anywhere along the corridor leading to the Bridge. Though your surprise quickly fades away as even just half-way there you can already hear the raging firefight that you're preparing to jump into, "That fight sounds like god-damned hell." You hear Tom mutter behind you, and to be honest you can't really disagree with him.

Finally you come to a halt next to the door, your hand hovering the control panel as you cast a glance at the rest of your team while they stack up both on you and the other side of the door. "You guys ready for this?"

Jaye snorts out a derisive breath as he shakes his head, "Hell no...are you?"
(2/?)
>>
>>31838467
Fuck no. Let's do it anyways.
>>
You start to open your mouth to tell him that you are before pausing and shaking your head with an apprehensive breath, "No...not really. But it's not like we've got any choice guys, so let's get this over with as fast as we can and without losing anybody else." You reply, your voice strengthening somewhat towards the end. The team nods in agreement at that, prompting you to turn your attention back to the door. "Alright...on three I'm going to open up the door and we're going to get in there. Whatever you see in there, if they shoot at you then kill them. Alright, one...two..." You pause for a moment, swallowing hard and saying a little prayer to yourself, before slamming your hand down on the panel as you shout the last number. "Three!"

The moment the door slides open you're moving around the corner into an absolute shit storm of a firefight, your shotgun raised to your shoulder and looking for a suitable target. It doesn't take you long to find one, as your aim falls on one of the many pirates who's back is still turned on you. The weapon in your hand roars to life as you pull the trigger, just barely watching your target long enough to confirm that not only did your slug rip through his shields, but it blew a hole the size of your fist through his chest.

It's easy to see panic spread through the pirate's ranks as they realize that not only are they being flanked, but that that many of them are being absolutely slaughtered by the combination of fire from your team and the diversion team, which seems to be pushing forward quickly as they realize that their backup has finally arrived.
>>
The deafening sounds of weapons firing, people screaming, explosions, and bullets whizzing through the air just over your head mix into a chaotic flurry of battle as your back slams against a command console, giving you just a small moment of safety before you lean back out of your cover, just in time to see a device similar to the ones now attached to your belt fly through the air and bounce on the floor a couple of times before slowly rolling to a halt. It takes you a few seconds of looking at it in confusion before your eyes widen in realization and terror and you scramble to jump away from the orb, just barely managing to make it out of the kill radius of the grenade as it goes off, sending you flying through the air to land roughly on the deck in the middle of the battle, pain shooting through your entire body as you try and force yourself to get up.

Finally, after several bullets fly dangerously close over your head, you manage to push yourself back to your feet and scramble behind some more cover, your eyes flitting to your HUD just int time for you feel a sense of disbelieving relief at seeing your shield still fully charged. Well it was a stupidly close call, but now at least you know what the devices Johnny had were, and you're pretty sure that the push button in the middle of them are what activates them...that'll be handy to know.

With that thought in mind you turn your attention back to the battle at large, seeing that thankfully your side seems to be winning, due to the advantage you've managed to give yourselves by flanking the pirates. As you eyes scan the Bridge intensely from behind your cover, you notice that while most of the pirates are wearing just civilian grade armor you can see one that is decked out in what looks like extremely heavy armor.

In fact it seems that the four-armed pirate is barely bothering with cover, moving across the bridge with a pair of heavy looking revolvers in his top hands while his lower arms blaze with purple energy. The alien only bothers to duck into cover when more than one or two people try to draw down on him, quickly flinging the Psionic power from his lower arms as he does so. You immediately start to move to bring him into your sights when he seems to notice, tossing several volleys of the Psionic energy in your direction, buffeting both you and your cover violently.

Despite his intentions, however aside from jostling you around a bit, the only effects you feel from the inaccurate attack is a strange welling up of an unfamiliar tension just underneath the surface of your skin. The feeling is infuriatingly hard to ignore, but otherwise doesn't seem to have any negative effect on you, though it does seem to be building up more as tim goes by.

Trying, with little success, to shake the uncomfortably sensation from your body you turn your attention back to your attacker, who's by now turned his back on you in favor of directing his attacks towards more open targets. You narrow your eyes as you try to come up with a suitable plan of action to attack him, with the armor he's wearing you doubt that just taking potshots at him will do you any good and will probably just draw his ire towards you again.

Ripping one of the orbs off your belt you pop out of your cover for a moment, looking desperately for the alien pressing down the button when you finally see him again, and hurl the device towards him.

You blink in surprise as the device soars straight through his shields and smacks him directly in the head, realizing for the first time that this entire time you've been vulnerable to attack from low-velocity objects due to your shield being meant to stop bullets and shrapnel traveling towards you at a significantly faster rate of speed. Your unintentional discovery is ripped temporarily from your mind as the grenade you launched towards the pirate explodes in a brilliant explosion of superheated shrapnel and plasma, easily destroying your four-armed friend's shield generator and melting away a large portion of his armor, as well as apparently blowing off one of his upper arms.

The scream of rage and pain is impossible to miss, even among the deafening roar of combat that dominates the Bridge. You're almost satisfied at what you managed to accomplish, aside from the fact that the clearly infuriated alien's gaze is now directed solely on you. Before you can even really respond to that revelation the previously four-armed behemoth hurls an orb of purple energy at you, as well as trying to draw down on you with his remaining pistol. With as large as that orb is you're afraid it might be able to actually do something worth-while to you, though then again all the last Psionic attack the guy threw at you managed to do is give you that strange sensation of energy coursing inside you, still it might not hurt to try and get out of the way. Of course if you try and dive away from your cover you may very well leave yourself open to attack from a more convention attack by firearms.
>Stay behind cover and hope that between that, your shield, and your armor you might be able to soak up whatever damage this guy's throwing at you in favor of hitting him with a counter-attack.
>Dive out from behind cover to try and avoid the orb. If you move fast enough maybe you can scramble across the way to get to another section of cover before he can draw down on you.

Deciding that you're really rather not find out how much that orb hurts or what kind of crap it can do to you, you dive from your cover in an attempt to avoid it. You've just landed on your stomach in the middle of the walkway and are trying to scramble to your feet when the orb slams into where you were just moments ago. You managed to dodge the main blast of the attack, only to have one of the shockwaves it sends out catch you and send you soaring up off the floor before dropping you painfully onto your back on the middle of the next console you were trying to move to.
[Shield Strength at 56%]

Your muscles scream in burning pain as you force yourself down off the top of the console and into cover just in time to avoid the the six rounds that slam into the now useless console. Despite the pain that's now making itself well known all across your body, you still feel like you've got plenty of fight left in you, though the tension that you previously building up within your body has now increased to a dull roar of unrecognizable energy rushing through your being.

You try desperately to shake it off, growing somewhat unsettled by the feeling though it doesn't necessarily seem to be a negative energy, merely extremely uncomfortable. Unfortunately before you can make any sense of the sensation you realize that your enemy has taken advantage of your lapse in attention and has rounded the corner of your cover, his now exposed eyes burning with hatred for you while his arms burn with another sort of energy altogether. You manage to scramble to your feet and are about to raise your shotgun when suddenly the alien lunges towards you, snatching you up in his grasp.
(1/2)
>>
A pained scream rips itself from your throat as you feel the Psionic energy from his hands flowing directly into your body, your nerves seeming to light on fire as it courses through you. As this happens, however you can feel the energy that's been building up in within your body start to come to a boiling point. You can feel the energy that's been building up coursing through you, an entirely different sensation from the torturous pain of the pirate's Psionics.

While you're not entirely sure how or why the idea occurs to you, you think that you might be able to direct the power you feel coursing through yourself into a sort of blast in order to try and force your enemy away. With that said, however, you've noticed that as soon as the alien touched you his own eyes seemed to widen in pain, you're not sure if it's because of some kind of feedback loop or maybe the energy you feel coursing through you feels just as painful to him as his does to you. Either way you think that you might either be able to try and rip yourself from his weakened grasp, if you decide that you don't want to risk trying to do anything with the revelation of how to use your energy.
>Try to direct the power into a blast to force him away.
>Rip yourself from his grasp. You've got no interest in whatever this power might be.

You grit your teeth as you try to fight through the burning pain and seize control of the energy coursing through you. Despite the intensity of the feeling you nearly lose your concentration twice before finally, with a tortured roar, you manage to channel the power into your hand. Your fist blazes with purple energy as you manage to rip your arm from the pirate's grip and pull it back to deliver a Psionic blast into the alien's face, sending him flying away from you and into one of the many windows surrounding the Bridge.
(Psionic Potential unlocked!)
(Psi Energy: 5/8)

You realize that the glass must be reinforced somehow as, while the inside does spider-web, the integrity of the pane stands strong; something you're beyond grateful for as you watch the alien drop to the floor limply. For a moment you think that you may have finally won your fight with the monstrously tough alien, only to groan out in frustration and exhaustion as you see him try to push himself up, though he seems to be having issues with finding his feet. Seeing this, you quickly snatch your shotgun from the ground and try to rush through the quickly dying battle. Despite your exhaustion and pain you manage to push through the chaos to reach your target. The moment you reach him he tries to finish pushing himself up off the floor, moving to draw his pistol as he does so.

From the looks of things he doesn't seem like he has much fight left in him. You could easily kill him with any of your attacks, though in doing so you won't be able to talk to him, and from the way that his fellow pirates seem to be faltering at the sight of him being so close to death you can only assume that he's their captain, or at the very least somebody very important to them. Of course if you wanted to try and keep him alive you could just physically hit him to knock him on his back and take away his weapons, there's a small chance he'd be able to resist you, but even if he did it doesn't seem like he's much of a threat to anybody right now.
>Just kill him. You're not interested in asking him any questions, and even if you were you're sure one of his subordinates could answer any of them just as well.
>Subdue him. Even if you don't want to ask him anything, you're sure that once order is restored to the ship and the authorities arrive that they'll be very interested in him. >22, 20, 11. Regular Success

Before the pirate can even manage to finish drawing the pistol your foot has already connected solidly with his face, sending him sprawling onto his back with a pained cry while his pistol goes scattering away from him across the deck. You see him try to scramble back up to grab it again, only for you to step forward and stomp down on his chest solidly, driving the breath from him as you do so. "You'd damn well better stay down, Bastard, or you might just convince me that you're not worth the trouble of keeping you alive." You shout down at him, allowing some of the energy still rushing through you flow to the surface, causing you to take on a sort of warped glow for a moment before it dies down again.

He looks like he might try to resist at first until his gaze travels past you, taking in the sight of the remaining pirates either being cut down easily by your team and the diversion force or, those among them smart enough to see the battle is lost, dropping their weapons and surrendering to the defending force. "You think you've won, Alien? What do you think is going to happen when our Captain realizes what happens? We were hired to wipe out all of you...we were trying to take the ship while we were at it, get our paycheck and a brand new ship to boot. Of course the damned Letans didn't tell us that the ship was filled with a bunch of demons..." The pirate manages to wheeze out, glaring up at you, "It doesn't matter though. Your victory means nothing here, Demon, once our ship realizes that we failed to take this one, they'll blow this one to pieces in order to fulfill the contract."
(1/2)
>>
Your eyes widen beneath your helmet at that revelation. You want to say that he's bluffing but it's obvious that these pirates don't care at all for the lives of others, you'd hardly be surprised to learn that they're willing to kill their own people for a paycheck just as quickly as others. With that thought in your mind you press your foot down harder against his chest, your mind racing as you try to decide the best way to increase your chances of survival. You realize that your best chance is to try to convince him to tell you where the crew to the ship are, assuming any of them are still alive, that is. Of course you could also simply demand that he tell you how to pilot the ship yourself, to try and take control of it and get out of the range of the pirate's weapons...then again if they managed to catch the ship in the first place you doubt you're going to be able to outrun them after they pounded away at it when they first attacked.

Ok so All in favor of boarding the enemy ship and siezeing it too?

AYE!
>>
>>31842169

Might not be a tenable plan out in dpace.

I'm in favour of getting more info first though since we have no idea how many aliens are onboard their ship and if they choose to just break away, a large number of humans may be caught in the transfer tubes and sent into space.

Find out what their plan was, maybe they head for a base or a remote area. Then we can take them by surprise when they think they're safe.
>>
>>31841986
Ok so i currently do NOT want to go to wherever it was these people were planning on taking us. If they are willing to sacrifice their own kind and pay off pirates to murder us, then i have ZERO illusions about what happens when we get to sad dumping planet, ie were are all killied/re-enslaved and worked to death. So we need to take the enemy ship. It has guns it is smaller and it moves FAST, unlike this slow useless hulk.
After this we need to find a place to hide from EVERYONE, and dredge the fuck out of the extranet to find out more info about the galaxy. After that we should work on surreptitiously uplifting humanity to the stars. If we pull that off MAYBE, just MAYBE we can go home.
>>
>>31842210
Like the boss pirate said, if we sit around and do nothing we get atomized. The cops/militia ARE NOT COMING. These pirates were paid off to kill us all and probably the crew too to leave no witnesses. No distress signals were sent. The K'tulu want NO survivors of our ship, they want to sweep away the evidence of their guilt and what better way to do so than "oh noes, teh pirates killed all of da stupid hoomans. poor, poor hoomans"
FUCK ALL OF THAT, they are dead and we will succeed.
>>
>>31842223
Problem is I really don't think the K'tulu sent these guys when they mention the Lentans. I think we are dealing with a whole new group and thought they were getting fancy stuff from this transport instead of it being filled with humans.
>>
"Where's the crew to the ship?" You ask the alien seriously, glaring down at him behind your helmet as he starts chuckling through rough coughs at your question.

"You actually think they'll be able to save you?" He asks incredulously, laughing harder for a moment until you suddenly reach up and unlatch your helmet, letting it drop to the deck before reaching down and grabbing the alien by what's left of his armor.

"Do I look like I'm joking to you?" You ask calmly, despite the anger raging within your eyes as you shove him over to the bulkhead and lean in closer to him as you draw your pistol from your holster, flipping the safety off. "I think you'd better tell me what I want to know, Pirate."

You see the alien's eyes fill with apprehension as he looks from your injured and blood-smeared face to your pistol, held just inches away from his head. "You don't have the guts..." He says weakly, clearly not even believing his own proclamation.

Your eyes narrow dangerously, "Do you really want to have to find out?" You whisper to him, motioning the weapon behind you to where you know there's several other pirates gathered together, "Because if you're wrong about that then I can always just ask one of your friends. Maybe they have a stronger survival instinct than you..."

The pirate swallows heavily at your quiet words, "F-fine! Fine, I'll tell you, Demon!" He shouts, breaking just as you start to press the barrel against his temple.

You feel a relieved wave rush through you at him giving before you had to go through with it, though you force yourself not to show your relaxation, "You'd better get talking then..."

He nods quickly, "Y-yeah. They're all locked in the armory. We took all the weapons and locked them in there..."

"You'd better be telling the truth, Pirate."

"I swear that's where they're going to be, there's no way they've managed to break out of there!"

"Good, then when we open it up-"

I'm not saying do nothing. We obviously need to strike back but HOW is the question. If you read my post again, you'll see I outlined a possible approach.
>>
>>31842277
Problem with that is, he said he was paid to KILL EVERYTHING, siezeing the ship was a bonus. So what probably happened was a K'tulu masquerading as a Lentian paid these guys to kill us under a false flag to diver suspicion away from the K'tulu anymore.Y'know just in case.
>>

>>31842305
You do have a fine plan, problem is we still have the immediate, they atomize the ship problem to deal with. The pirates blew up large sections of this ship, so i dont really know how pilot-able it is right now. We need to get the pirates ship due to it being a better candidate for flying around the galaxy and shit.
>>
Rolled 7, 9, 1 = 17

>>31842393

The other possible problem is that the ship we're planning to assault might possibly be much larger than our own.

We've not managed to get eyes on it, it might be a large frigate type vessel with lots of men and these guys here are new grunts who they want to train on a supposedly easy mission.

If the vessel is too big, assaulting it would be a death trap and that means our only chance of meaningful survival would be to attempt to escape.
>>
>>31842319
Dont push yourself man. The honest truth is that you post VERY slowly. Im not complaining about it, but the amount of time between posts for this quest is rather long. The amount of time it takes to complete updates is also very long.
>>
>>31842416
Another problem is distance from our current ship's position to the enemy's ship which I think has gotten worse since by the cut off of the last post from Hawktail, I think they've begun firing on our ship.
>>
>>31842416
Trying to power up the Warpdrive/FTL/Light-engine right now is ALSO a bad idea, remember they blew holes in this ship, we have no idea if the drive is even functioning right now. And if not we have no way to repair it in a hurry.
>>
Before you can finish your sentence you hear somebody running up from behind you, "Hey, uh...Boss, Angelicia wants you up by the main console."

You turn to look at Jaye, shaking your head in a little bit of annoyance, "I appreciate it, Jaye, but don't you think this could wait?"

"I...uh, I don't think so, Boss. I'm pretty sure you're going to want to see this." He replies carefully, clearly unsettled by your interrogation, "If you want I can keep an eye on this guy. I promise he's not going to go anywhere."

A short silence reigns over you as you try to decide, before finally letting out a sigh. "Alright, I'll go see her. Make sure this bastard doesn't try anything stupid while I'm gone." You tell him, holstering your pistol and pushing off from the wall, turning as you do so and picking up your helmet from the floor as you pass it. "I'll be back as soon as I'm done up there."

Now that the adrenaline from the battle has worn off you can feel every single ache and pain you've developed over the course of the day weighing you down as you slowly make your way up the ramp to the main console where you can see Angelicia standing, looking just as tired as yo imagine you do. "Hey. Jaye said you needed me?"

The mechanic spins on her heel at the sound of her voice, her eyes widening as she takes in your appearance, "God...you look like shit, Doc." She says, not a single ounce of amusement to be found in her normally playful voice.

You start to try and think of a retort to her before quickly deciding against it, instead just letting a heavy sigh, "It's...been a really long day." You mutter tiredly, shaking your head as your mind flashes to Johnny before forcing yourself back to the present, "Anyways, like I said, what's up?"

Angelicia grimaces at your reply, before nodding her head, "Yeah...I understand." She mutters in reply, before turning and motioning towards the large window she's been standing in front of clearly meaning to get back on topic, "Why don't you look for yourself?"

You raise an eyebrow at the invitation, shaking your head tiredly, "Okay, I give, wha-" Your voice cuts out as you finally get the rest of the way up the ramp and manage to see the scene taking place outside the window. "Holy crap..." You manage to choke out at the sight of the gigantic starship drifting confidently above a small debris field that you assume used to be whatever kind of ship the pirates had managed to commandeer for themselves. "I....really hope that they're not here to do that to us too."

The mechanic nods grimly at the comment, clearly about to reply to it when suddenly the console in front of the two of you lights up, a shrill tone beeping incessantly from it. You look warily at your friend, finding her returning your nervous look. "Should I answer it?" She asks carefully, not seeming to particularly enjoy the idea of being the one to pick up the call. Of course, given your friend's hesitance you could step forward and answer it yourself, or you could just leave it as it is, though somehow you don't think that would be a particularly good idea.

Both of you stare at the console for a few moments before you hesitantly step forward and press the button, blinking in surprise as a life-sized hologram of an alien species you haven't seen before flashes into existence. "Transport Deucalion, this is Battleship Omnicron, answering your distress signal. What's the situation on board your vessel?"

You shift uncomfortably as you look the alien up and down, "Ah...well, the pirates have been taken care of, Ma'am, but as far as I know they've locked the crew in the armory. That's what they told us, anyways..." You answer carefully, unsurprised to see the alien in the hologram blink in confusion and surprise.

"Excuse me? Did you say the pirates were...taken care of? Who is this?" She asks slowly, as if she's not entirely sure that she believes you.

You nod confidently, "This is Doctor Jack Yarick, and yes, I did. We just finished fighting them, actually." You reply, a small amount of annoyance slipping through into your voice.

There's a long pause on the other end as the alien in the hologram looks away, clearly saying something to somebody else out of view, before nodding slowly and finally turning back to you. "Sorry about that, Ma'am, we just wanted to make sure that we were getting the whole message." The hologram finally says, making your face fall at her addressing you as Ma'am while you can hear Angelicia standing behind you doing her best not to break out laughing, "We'll be sending crew member over immediately to restore order and tend to any wounded you may have on the ship. I promise that we will get you on your way as soon as possible." She says quickly, waiting for you to nod in agreement, before cutting the line.

"Well, looks like backup finally arrived." You mutter tiredly, slowly easing yourself down into a sitting position on the ramp, followed quickly by your friend.

Angelicia nods with a sigh, "Yeah...better late than never." She replies equally as tiredly, before a small smirk crosses her lips as she turns to look at you, "Right, Ma'am?"

You're tired enough that you can only just barely muster the energy to direct a glare at your punk friend before, "You know what, Angel?" You mutter quietly, drawing an equally amused and surprised glance from your friend at your shortening of her name.

"What's up, Doc?"

You let out a low groan at her, shaking your head while you collapse onto your back and stare up at the ceiling of the Bridge, "You're an ass."

It takes you a little while to notice it, but finally you manage to force yourself to look over at your friend after realizing that she hasn't said anything since your accusation, only to see that she's smirking down at you in amusement, "I know...but so are you."

"Not true..." You breath out, just moments away from passing out.

"Oh? How do you figure that?"
