You awaken in your room at the Inn, heading downstairs to find Lisa already eating breakfast. After sitting down and enjoying your meal, you’re ready for your trip to the mines today.

You remember that Brian Steel said he’d have someone pick you up today to take you to the mines, although you weren’t given a place to meet. After some consideration, you decide that the most likely place to look is the pier where your ship arrived. After gathering your things, you and Lisa head over to the dock.

It takes a few minutes, but you manage to find the man who was sent to take you to the mines. He brought a cart along, so you don’t have to walk all the way there. He then asks if you’re prepared to leave.

You inform the man that there was still a bit of shopping you needed to take care of, and you work your way over to the market square. After hunting down someone to make leather armor for Riolu, you head back to the blacksmith you met yesterday. The measuring takes a bit of time, but he says it won't take too long to make the light breastplate you were looking for.

Riolu's Armor Cost: 40p
Breastplate Cost: 60p

Current Funds: 585

With that taken care of, you head back to the pier and begin your journey to the mines.

It takes several hours, although the ride is relatively smooth. Eventually, you arrive at the Terminus mines, at the base of a rather imposing mountain. The clang of steel on stone echoes throughout the area, and you can see many carts of raw ore moving about the site.

Towards the center, you note Brian Steel, who seems to be coordinating the operation. After your cart stops, you head over to greet him.

"Hello, Mr. Steel," you call, trying to raise your voice above the clamor.

"Ah, Ceil," he replies, "Glad you could make it. That makes two visitors today, or I suppose three counting your friend there. So was there any part of the place you wanted to take a look at in particular?"

"Wait, two visitors?" you inquire, "Who else is here?"

"That would be Lady Rachel Shabboneau," Brian replies, "She's here about something we found in the mines a few days ago. We haven't managed to get it out yet, but it's gotten her attention regardless."

Before you can respond, you hear a large rumbling noise that slowly increases in volume. The various shouts and yells direct your attention to the side of the mountain, where a large quantity of boulders seems to be cascading downward. As they strike the ground, you watch as some of them seem to unfurl. Most of these rocks seem to be stone monsters.

As you and the other miners prepare to fight them off, the rock monsters begin scattering in several directions, attempting to avoid getting struck by any of the miners. It almost seems that they’re running from something.

Your suspicions are confirmed when the ground begins shaking. Erupting from the mountainside is a massive metal monster. You recognize it as one commonly used by many armies, although the lack of any manmade armor or weapons on this one suggests that it is wild.

It rushes down the mountainside, slamming into the ground. With a roar, it begins knocking over nearby mining supplies, digging through the piles of metal.

Before you or the miners can react to the monster’s appearance, you spy a brief flash of light from higher up the mountain. You try to inform Brian of what you just saw, but your words are drowned out when a large beam of energy erupts from the same point, striking the metal beast directly. The creature slowly turns to face the threat, unfazed by the attack.

Your problems seem to be growing, since down from the mountain comes a large green lizard monster, which crashes into the first. The two begin assaulting each other, their battle decimating any mining equipment they get close to.

“This is very bad!” Brian yells, "We are not equipped to deal with one of these monsters, let alone two! And what's worse, Lady Shabboneau is still inside the mines!"

"What should we do?" you yell as you look on. The miners seem to be sending in some of their large rock snakes to fight the two creatures, however they quickly get swept aside in the flurry of claws.

"We need reinforcements," Brian shouts, "From the Fort. They should be able to handle this!"

You consider what you should do.

"Lisa, you run to the fort and get help," you command, "Brian, I'm going to try to find Lady Shabboneau in the mines. Do you have any of her belongings that I could use to track her?"

Brian thinks for a moment before speaking.

"She left a suitcase inside the tent over there," he says, pointing to a tent across the compound, "There should be something inside it you can use. I'm gonna gather up my boys and head over to the bridge. We might not be able to fight these things, but hopefully we can prevent them from heading into town."

You nod, turning your gaze to the tent Brian indicated. Fortunately, it is rather close to one of the entrances to the mine. Unfortunately, it is also rather close to the two clashing monstrosities.

You tell Riolu to hang back before slowly skirting around the edge of the area. Fortunately, the two seem intensely focused on their fight. You briefly wonder what they're fighting about, but you soon reach the inside of the tent.

A relatively lavish bed has been set up in a corner of the room, as well as some other fine furniture. You easily locate the suitcase on top of one of the tables, and pop it open to examine it's contents. There are more frills then you were expecting, but this is an emergency, you grab a handkerchief, before peering outside. It seems the two titans have managed to work their battle away from the tent, and Riolu has taken the opportunity to regroup with you. You dash out from the tent into the mineshaft, glancing back one last time at the brawl. You're not sure if they saw you or not, but they don't seem to be pursuing.

You head a bit further into the mine just to be safe. With Riolu keeping a lookout, you begin to focus your aura, concentrating on the piece of cloth in your hand. It has a stern aura about it, but also has a degree of fairness. Reaching outwards, you catch sight of the two monsters in combat. Both seem completely unyielding, though one has a degree of malice the other lacks.

You attempt to push them out of your mind as you reach deeper into the mines, seeking your target.

It's difficult to focus with the sheer amount of life in the area. You're unable to pinpoint the Lady's location, however you do manage to pick up a trail. It's muddled, due to the time that has passed and the people she had with her, but it's enough for you to follow deeper into the mines.

You and Riolu continue forward carefully, keeping a sharp eye out for any monsters that may inhabit the mines. Fortunately, you don't come across any. It seems the miners try to keep their work area clear of threats. Whenever you reach a fork, you stop and focus, making sure you're following the correct path.

As you worm your way deeper into the mines, you find something strange when you come to another fork. Focusing outward, there seems to be a very strong aura nearby. It gives of a sense of purity and hope, you feel. You're not quite sure what it is, but it's comparable to that of the two beasts outside. Focusing nearby, it seems that the trail leads in the same direction as the new aura.

You grip your glaive in your hands, as you and Riolu carefully move towards your destination. You're not sure what that aura belongs to, but you doubt it was Lady Shabboneau.

As you round the corner, you prepare yourself for anything.

As you round the corner, you come face to face with...nothing?

No, that's not right. You're sure there was something here. You move forward slowly, scanning every corner of the room. On the wall, you catch a glint of light reflecting off of the surface. It seems as though there is a large, dull colored crystal embedded in the stone. You focus in to make certain, and it indeed seems as though the aura is coming from the crystal.

The tunnel and trail continue along further, although you notice the auras seem a bit different then before. Perhaps it happened when the Lady and her group passed by this crystal?

You quickly search around the room, spying an abandoned pickaxe nearby. You strike quickly, carefully and precisely, making sure to not damage the crystal. While you've never done this before, the rock seems to just crumble away around your prize.

You carefully scoop it out of the rock. It feels strangely warm in your hands. However, you also spy more glittering in the newly excavated wall. Reaching in, you also seem to have found a Sunstone.

Satisfied with your haul, you pocket the sunstone and place the crystal into Riolu's pouch. Despite it's size, it doesn't weight quite as much as he does.

With everything secured, you continue on through the tunnels, which seem to be making a gradual climb upwards. You wonder if you're headed in the right direction, until you spy a bright light up ahead.

You find yourself outside. It seems this tunnel wandered to close to the surface of the mountain. Looking back towards, the camp, you hear the roars of the two monsters, but you can't see much other than a large amount of smoke.

Focusing in the other direction, you try to see Lady Shabboneau. The trail leads you down a narrow path along the mountainside, winding towards a valley. The treeline is rather thick, so you're forced to move slowly. Eventually you reach the edge of the treeline, which seems to overlook a valley. You drop low after you see what is there.

A large camp seems to have been set up. You note many men and monsters in armor, and although you couldn't guess their allegiance from this distance, you're certain they aren't from the Royal Kalos Army, nor are they here to deal with the two monsters. You duck behind a tree to avoid being seen before focusing outward with your aura, carefully searching through the camp. There are many auras to sort through, however you eventually find a match on the east side of camp. It seems Lady Shabboneau is inside of a rather large tent, and you can make out a number of guards nearby.

You know from your geography lessons that this mountain range was certainly within the Kalos region, so you haven't crossed any borders. The closest country from here would be Lurande, although you're not sure why they would stage an invasion.

As you think on this, you begin hiding your gear nearby. You didn't need it weighing you down while you were making a rescue attempt. There wasn't much of a reason to bring anything other than your knife, since any real fight would end poorly.

"Riolu, I need you to stay here," you state, "If I'm not back soon, go find Lisa. She should be able to help."

Riolu gives a nod before leaping into one of the trees, keeping a lookout.

With that, you begin working your way around the edge of the camp.

Shortly, you find yourself lying on the ground at the bottom of a hill, surrounded by a number of armed men. Someone who seems to have some rank heads over to you, saying something in a language you don't understand, before switching.

"Who are you and what are you doing here?"

"I'm Ceil Milliner, son of a merchant. I got lost in the mines after I was running away from two giant monsters."

"Hmm, a likely story," he smirks, "Check him for any weapons then toss him in with her. We don't have time to set up a new tent for everyone who gets to close. Set the 3rd heavy infantry division on the east side as a precaution."

"Yes, Captain!" the men affirm in unison. In a matter of moments you are liberated of your pocket knife and unceremoniously tossed into the tent. Your hands and feet are bound, rather well from your initial tests. As you glance around the room, you see a figure in a yellow dress squirming around on the ground.

"Who's there?" the figure inquires. She seems rather young, from the sound of her voice. She begins squirming around to see you.

"Did they take you prisoner too?" she asks, smiling as you nod in response.

"Um...how?" you reply. You figure she's got something planned, although whatever it is will be difficult with the ropes on your hands.

"Just flip around and reach out your hands," she continues, "Although I recommend you try to do this quickly."

You do as she says, flipping around. You close your eyes as you attempt to focus. Using aura might help you find whatever it is you're looking for. you feel warmth on your hands and arms as they slide against something. You continue moving your hands around, and you suddenly feel yourself grasp a rounded object. You nearly recoil in panic, but then you realize that whatever this object is isn't soft. It's also not where it would be if it were THAT. You fish it out, although you can't tell what it is with your arms behind you.

"Perfect," she approves, "Now just hold still."

You wait a moment as she shuffles her position so her hands can get at the object. She fiddles with it for a moment before a large flash of light seems to burst forth from the object.

You turn to see a small monster standing in the room that wasn't there previously. It's short, with smooth black hair and a short yellow dress. It's quite cute, although you also notice it highly resembles the princess, aside from the eyes.

"Alright Molly, cut these ropes for me!"

The monster, whose name seems to be Molly, smiles happily before turning around and---

Oh Arceus, for the love of all that is good and decent, you really wish you had not been watching as it did that. The creature's 'hair' splits apart to form a massive gaping maw, the teeth cleanly slicing through the ropes. You're happy to be free, but that was a bit too surprising.

"Now, let's get going," Lady Shabboneau commands.

The two of you move to the back of the tent. You avert your eyes as Molly opens up once again to slice an opening. Now you just needed to get out of camp without being seen.

You manage to make it to the base of the hill without anyone spotting you. Carefully working your way up the rocks, you manage to make it to the ledge. Continuing around, it seems as though most of the soldiers are missing. With a quick glance from aura, they all seem to be gathered in a single large tent. The cafeteria, based on the time.

Taking advantage of this opportunity, you and Lady Shabboneau circle around the camp, avoiding the edge as much as possible. Soon, you reach the tree line, and you work your way back to your gear. Riolu leaps down from the trees, and seems overjoyed to see you safe.

"A masterful escape," Lady Shabboneau smiles, "Wouldn't you say?"

"Quite," you agree, donning your gear.

"I don't believe I caught your name," she adds, "You wouldn't be some sort of ruffian, would you?"

"My name is Ceil Millener," you begin as the two of you continue back to the mine entrance, "I was going to tour the mines today, although there were two monsters that attacked the site. I volunteered to make sure you were safe."

"You mentioned a crystal?" you ask, retrieving it from it's pouch as you begin heading for the entrance to the mineshaft.

"That's it!" she exclaims, "How did you get that? It was still in the rock when I was captured."

"I just chipped away at it," you reply, "It came lose after a few good swings. What is it anyway?"

"Something my brother wanted me to find," she explains, "He is obsessed with several different ancient legends. If you ask me, he just wants people to think he's like the King. He insisted I retrieve this crystal due to it matching one of the legends in his readings. Something about stars, I think. Ordinarily I wouldn't do anything my brother asks, although it was a good excuse to get away from home for awhile. Although I wasn't hoping for this much excitement."

"Who were those men?" you say, "They didn't look like the Royal Army. Mercenaries maybe?"

"It's possible," she muses, "Although I'm more concerned with who hired them. It didn't seem like they'd send an entire army just for me. They must be there for another reason."

As you continue thinking on this, you realize that the tunnels aren't shaking like they were before. As you near the exit, you look forward with aura. While the two beasts are still there, they seem to be rather still. There's also another presence of note, one quite lively and strong. It seems to be standing around, and there are people nearby, so you think it's safe to return.

Exiting, you're briefly blinded by the light as you emerge.

"Ceil!" a familar voice calls, "You're back! And you found Lady Shabboneau."

As your eyes adjust, you see Lisa waving to you from the crowd nearby. The two beasts seem to be unconscious, although you cut them a wide breadth. Near the two fallen forms is a towering green creature standing next to a knight in heavy armor.

"Lady Shabboneau!" Brian Steel calls out, "I'm glad you're safe. Did these two monsters cause you any distress?"

"None at all," she replies, "Although-"

"You should have seen Sir Davis!" Brian interrupts, "As soon as he arrived he and his partner thrashed those two beasts quite soundly. We also figured out why they made such a stir to begin with. One of the miners had taken a few of the metallic one's eggs that he had found in an iron vein. It came here to get them back, and the green one pursued when it invaded its territory. Can you believe-"

"Mr. Steel," you interrupt, "That's very nice, but we still have a problem. There is quite the sizable army in a valley on the other side of this mountain, and it isn't ours."

"That is quite the problem indeed," says Sir Davis, who has approached your group, "I'll need the two of you to tell me anything you else you saw, and then we'll need to decide what to do."

As you recount the tale of your rescue, Sir Davis furrows his brow, clearly processing all of the monsters and details you saw.

"Alright, here's what we shall do, " Sir Davis begins, "I will send word back to the fort concerning the army, allowing us to raise a defense. The three of you will return to Anistar to inform the guard. We'll still need someone to inform the king, though I'm sure I can find someone."

You look to Lisa and Lady Shabboneau. You don't notice either of them having objections to heading back to town with you. Brian Steel arranges for a cart to carry you back to town.

Would you like to speak to anyone about anything before you go?

I assumed you guys were going to try to make it into a necklace like the one you saw in the store. In either case, this seems important enough to warrant a separate vote, so we'll handle it later.

"I'm afraid we'll need to reschedule that tour," you say to Steel.

"Well, I just hope you know it's not always this exciting," he replies, "I'm afraid a real your would be boring at this rate."

You continue to chat until the cart is ready. You help Lisa and Lady Shabboneau up first before getting in. A young man in armor also gets in, introducing himself as Richard.

Soon, you're headed down the road towards Anistar.

"Hey Lisa," you begin, "I was wondering if I should send a letter back to my folks. Have you sent word back to your parents at all?"

"I'd considered it," she replies, "Although since we just got to Anistar and we're traveling by ship, most letters I send would arrive at the same time as we got back. Unless I paid for a carrier bird of course, but those are always pricey."

You nod, contemplating whether or not it would be worth the price to send a letter, but you put it at the back of your mind for now.

"Lady Shabboneau," you start, "Would you mind if we discussed the crystal your brother wanted?"

"Certainly," she says, "Although I'm not sure how much I can help you with that. As I mentioned earlier, the crystal might relate to a legend about the stars. Specifically a star that appears in the sky only once every thousand years.Supposedly, one of the servants of Arceus resides on that star, and possesses the power to grant ones desires."

"What does your brother plan on doing with it?"

"Well, he probably just wishes to stick it on his shelf so he has another talking point to bore his guests with," she jests, "I doubt he'd know what to do with himself if it ended up being real."

After your ride arrives back into the city, your group busies itself with informing the town guard of the situation. The guard makes certain to send a message to the capital city as well, thanking you for the information. After the meetings, Lady Shabboneau approaches you.

"It has been quite a day," she begins, "Although there's something else to discuss. All of the current guards and soldiers in the area are being coordinated to defending against the army we saw. Currently, the only man I currently have assigned to guard me is Richard, and he is still a squire. Which is why I must make a rather selfish request. I would like you to accompany me as a guard on my Journey back to my home in Camphrier Town."

"Well, I'm not exactly a professional," you point out.

"I am aware," she nods, "However, you have a certain air about you many lack, and I have no doubt in my mind that you are capable."

"What about expenses?"

"You certainly are the son of a merchant," she smirks, "However, I can assure you that compensation will not be a problem."

"What route were you planning on taking?"

"My home is towards the south-west. It would be the easiest to travel through the Capital City to get there."

"Alright, there's just one more thing. I need to make sure Lisa is okay with going."

"By all means."

You head over to Lisa. She was playing with Riolu while you were having your conversation.

"Hey Ceil!" she says, "What did Lady Shabboneau want?"

"She wants to hire us as bodyguards," you reply, "To take her back to her home in Camphrier Town."

Lisa begins carefully considering your words, weighing them on her mind.

"Well, she could probably use the help," Lisa begins, "And I certainly can't let you go alone. So it looks like we're going together."

You nod, heading back to Lady Shabboneau.

"We'll do it." you state.

"Excellent! Although I would like some time to rest and relax. We shall leave in two days time. Now, since it is getting to be rather late in the evening, what say you to diner?"

"That sounds great."

Lady Shabboneau leads you to the home of the local lord. After a half hour of pleasantries, it seems that she has secured you a place at the diner table as well as a room for the night.

The meal is quite exquisite, much better than the local restaurant fair. Eventually, you all retire to your rooms for the evening. You go t obed and find yourself quickly falling asleep, tired from the day's events.

And that concludes tonight's thread. I hope you enjoyed it. If you have any comments or questions, I'll be sticking around for a bit to answer them.

Thanks for the thread Med

ETA on the next?

How far are we from chucking aura balls and other offensive aura attacks?

How do we increase our hp and riolus?

What moves does riolu offically know other than backhand a bitch?
>>

I'm going to continue trying to run threads on Wednesday.

As for progression, I have things set up for certain benchmarks for Riolu. Yours are a bit harder to gauge, since they're less dependent on combat. Offensive attacks in particular will be more difficult for you in general.

I'm straying away from having specific moves, mainly to avoid any detailed mechanics from the actual games. I'm basing what things are capable of off of moves, and certain moves will appear sometimes, but don't worry about Riolu having a good fighting STAB or anything like that.

We should totally get an Onix if the opportunity ever presents itself. Then we can evolve it into a mother fucking Steelix

I'm not opposed to you guys trying to gather or catch more, although I will point out that it'll be difficult to start and maintain.
