General rules:

There is a 10 minute voting period after each post. Non-contradictory votes will be combined as best as possible. There are occasional roles to keep things organic, but mostly it goes by voters choice. Unless specified otherwise, the best of 3 rolls is the result, and rolling high is good.

Write-ins for all votes or always welcome and encouraged. Put your own spin on it, suggest dialogue, add an addendum, or anything else. Just because some options specify to write in, doesn't mean that they aren't welcome for anything else. They may not all make it into the post or be altered to fit in, but I'll do my best to at least try to address the spirit of the write-in.

Very important or contentious votes may be redone in a stricter voting system as it comes up.

Combat is currently under revision and subject to change.

There we are. Where were we, in the middle of some mindbreak and humiliation?
>>
I wanted to make the point that we need to force Clair into our emotions more. In terms of shitty memories she can meet even with us, but we need to dump her in the wellspring of lonliness and such.
She went through a lot of shit but she never would have been along, she would have her parents and Vance and probably professionals or something to help her along. We had nobody.

You thought you’d have more nostalgia for this place. In truth, it feels like it could trap you at any moment. All the memories you’re ashamed up might turn into tentacles and keep you here. It smells like shame and disappointment. Judging by the look on Clair’s face, she smells the same thing.

“So you’ve gotten some beatings and self-worth issues. That’s nothing new.” Her monotone has broken into the natural voice of a teenaged girl. “You’re not alone.” You think that was supposed to come off as unimpressed, but it sounded full of pity.

You don’t want her stupid pity. You want someone to understand how worthless you feel and tell you everything is alright.

What? No, that’s not it. Where did that thought even come from? You came here to beat her at her own mind games. Drown her in the crap that is your head.

You gesture to your closet of shame.

“What’s in it?” She approaches slowly.

“Open it and find out.”

She opens the door and is immediately thrown against the room. An onslaught of memories come flooding out. There are small ones like times you told minor lies, took things of no real value from people. Larger ones follow. Stealing from the fundraiser collection, tripping that Jessica girl in the mud even though she hadn’t done anything to you, letting Mr. Batson cop a feel when you were caught trying to take his wallet. Things that make you feel dirty.

You’re expecting more rapid-fire shame and guilt to come blasting out of the closet. Instead, a slow, barely visible fog rolls in. You know what it is. It’s not one particular memory, but a fine mist made of every night you stayed up wondering what was wrong with you. From your impulses to sometimes lie or steal just because it gave you a sense of power, to how you were made fun of when it came out that you were bisexual, to the fact that deep down, you knew every moment alone was your own fault.

You told yourself you were alone because you were a victim of circumstance, but that was a lie. Instead of facing the truth, you’d tell yourself you were alone by choice. Nobody loved you because you didn’t need anybody else. That’s a lie too. The truth is, you’re just a terrible person. Nobody can ever love you.

Except Robin. She loves you. You’re surrounded by a montage of all the friendly smiles, the way she holds your hand, the kisses and hugs. Robin said she loved you. She even knows a lot about you and she said that. Then why do you feel so much doubt and worry?

Clair is closing the closet door. She looks terrible, like she was in a shipwreck that called her mean names. She’s starting off, unguarded, seemingly unaware of you standing there.

Somehow, you know that she’s been in the heads of Jeanine, Robin, and Vance at least a little bit already today. Their thoughts are in her pockets.

Clair barely mutters something. "Does Robin really love me? Can anybody?"

Clair remains in her stupor. You look around and realize the fog of self-hate barely registers to you. You see it, but you're numb to it. It's an old friend. Odd as it is, it's almost comforting to have it back. It's slipped away since you started your journey. Clair looks paralyzed from it. You don't try to wake her. Why should you? Let her stew in the lifetime's worth of self-hate that makes up the background radiation of your life.

You trust Robin, but you can't pass this up. You just want a peak. You hear faint whispering from the pocket as your hand reaches closer. Quickly, operating on instinct, you take out an orb of light from her pocket. You examine it closely. it whispers to you. Surface thoughts. Small things. Robin was thinking about the match for the most part. There's a few other things, nothing big. Wait, what's this? You peer closer...it's...a secret? A secret she's keeping from you!

You drop the orb and it smashes on the ground. The thought slips from your mind. You take out the orbs from her other pockets. One belongs to Vance, the other to Jeanine. You smash them too. Why are you so angry?

"Hey! Clair! Wake up!"

She doesn't react. You slap her and she snaps out of it.

"What...What did you do?" She looks down at the smashed orbs. She wipes a tear from her eye. She's trying to sound mad but has no energy.

"Their thoughts belong in their heads, not in yours!" You justify your actions. You really do feel that way, but you also feel a sense of anger and betrayal you can't remember the reason for.

She looks down on them. "You shouldn't mess with things you don't understand here." Her voice is distant and sad.

>Whatever! We're going to her mind now.

I believe we should show Clair that we are not only defined by our miseries, but the good memories as well. Like the times we got to know Vance, Robin, and Jeanine, our first night with Robin, the memories of catching all our pokemon, and our shining moments together. Also, lets see what makes Clair tick.
>>
>>31831352
You wanted this Clair! You could have stopped at any time! You didn't have to come here! But now that you're here, I'm going to leave you with something you'll never forget.

>You still want to show her something that will make her think twice about snooping in your head (write-in)

think of the most Malicious thing we have ever done, like stealing from a poor person, or beating up some kid when we were younger. Psychic is weak to Dark because Dark is Evil, and they can't stand to read all of the Evil thoughts in their heads.

"So make me understand." You begin leading her out.

"I can't. You don't have the gift." Clair's hand comes to where you slapped her before. It's like she's just noticing it now. "Maybe I can try." It seems the slap helped bring her mostly back. She still looks like crap though.

You stop at the door. Robin kept a secret from you. That's right. That's why you felt so mad. Why can't you remember what it was? You glance back at the shattered orbs. "Did I hurt my friends doing that?"

"No. Those were just copies of memories. You can hurt people here if you don't know what you're doing though. You should be careful." Her voice is still distant. Her eyes unfocused.

You look over the room one more time. Your eyes settle on the toy versions of your Pokemon on the table. They're playing around with each other now. At least they wouldn't be keeping secrets from you. You remember the time you caught Devon. The tune plays in your head as you close the door and leave.

You arrive at the castle almost instantly. Or did it take days of walking? Time doesn’t seem to matter here.

There’s a large moat.

You see an army of knights of various sizes outside the moat. They’re looking for a way in. Wait, those are all Vance! Some of them are wearing helmets, but on the ones where you can see their faces, they’re definitely all Vance at different ages. The oldest one stands at the front. He looks like he’s in charge.

There’s a spear sticking out of him that he doesn’t seem to care about. In fact, there are spears sticking out of a lot of the older Vance-knights. It looks the youngest one to have a spear in him is about thirteen.

“She did this to me. I stopped hanging around with her and started hanging around girls. She wanted me to mess up asking a girl out. She stuck a spear in my confidence. She says she meant to just make me screw up that one time, but the truth is she couldn’t stand to have me get friends when nobody liked her. She played with parts of the mind she had no idea how to handle and stripped me of my self-worth.”

The last time you had a good conversation with Vance, he revealed that he was actually aware of how often women hit on him, and he just pretended not to notice to avoid the issue. He didn’t even ask Jeanine out when he knew she’d say yes. Did Clair do something to him?

Clair's face is blank. She still doesn't seem like she's all there. She just follows behind you without comment.

"So you never had a problem with altering people permanently? Is this what you meant by not knowing what you're doing?"

She finally looks up at you. "Yes."

You reach to one of the spears. "Can I take it out?"

"It won't fix anything. These are just phantoms. Vance is that way." She points to a building that looks like his family's gym in the distance. You look in the distance in other directions. Robin's dad's gym is far away. Jeanine's building is in viewing distance too.

You look over the army of Vance. "I'm going to guess the reason there's stuff like this outside is that you can't turn it off, can you?"

"I can. I don't want to get rid of them."

You pull a spear out of the oldest Vance. You just can't stand the sight of one of your friends being impaled like this. It comes out easily enough, but the hole is still there. He doesn't seem to notice.

You bypass them and go to the gates, spear in hand. Judy is there with a clipboard. "State the reason for your visit"

"She won't stop you regardless of what you say." Clair informs you. "She just has paperwork she needs to file. She's a bureaucrat. Guarding these gates isn't her job. She doesn't care enough to keep anything dangerous out."

"State the reason for your visit," Judy repeats.

"I want to know Clair better." Judy just scribbles it down, but Clair looks genuinely surprised. Then suspicious.

"Why?" Judy asks.

You have a lot of things you can say to that. Jokes about being a reckless badass teen come to mind. You don't want to spend all day explaining it to her. "Reasons." You walk around her.

The castle itself is cold. You notice that Clair is starting to look odd. Her face is warped. The purple cord in the back of her head head throbs as you go deeper inside.

You look on the pale, sickly girl. She's slowly changing into something other than a person. "Do you think I'm dangerous?"

"Not to me. I don't like how much the others are willing to follow you." Clair keeps close. "I don't like how much Vance trusts you." She sounds nervous. "Seen enough yet? Can we go?"

No way. You look at a map on the wall.

"Sometimes I worry about how much they trust me too."
>>
You head to the servants quarters. You'll head to the stables afterwards.

"Clair!" Vance and Clair's parents come to greet the two of you. "You brought a friend!"

"A friend!" Her dad repeats. He scurries to bring some snacks on a tray. "We're so proud of you! Always so proud!"

You can hear their thoughts. They seem happy, but also worried. You listen a little harder. They're worried because they think there's a small chance Clair did something to you to make her your friend.

"I only did that once and it was an accident!" Clair yells suddenly. She must have heard the same thing. "Once! You don't have to be worried all the time! I'm already better than the psychic teachers you sent me to. Nothing like that will happen again." You see a few more people appear. You don't recognize them, but assume they're her teachers. They walk around cleaning up the room.

Her parents don't seem to hear her protesting. Her mom grabs fusses over her. "Oh dear. You seem upset. Did you want to try the pills again?"

Clair turns away. "No! Stop trying to fix me! Stop trying to help me! Haven't I shown you I can handle myself?" Clair turns uglier. She looks like a warped caricature of herself. The sound of the Vance army outside becomes audible again. She crosses her arms. "If you're so proud of me, why do you always think I need your help?"

Her dad looks at you. You know it's not really him. It's just Clair's vision of him. He looks bigger than you remember. More imposing and authorative, but also more jovial. He interupts your thoughts. "Can I get you anything?

"Just water please."

He instantly produces a glass and hands it to you. It's clear, honest. Water has no particular meaning to either of you. You do notice that the act of drinking it is refreshing. It's not the water that refreshes you, but it feels like taking a break from all this metaphysical nonsense gives your mind a rest. You finish the water.

"Cocoa sounds nice too."

He instantly produces a warm cup. You take a sip and instantly see Clair's memories of her childhood. Countless happy breakfasts at the table. Reading books beyond your age level and having praise heaped on you. Playing with Vance and even other kids, at least as a smaller kid. Genuinely feeling the pride and love from your parents and even Vance. Slowly, it wears off. You're left feeling empty and sad when it fades. It was a sip of childhood.

You put down the cup before the temptation to guzzle it all becomes too great.

"Clair, come on, let's go to the stable." You lead her away.

The Pokemon you know is Solrock greets you and Clair. There's a Gardevoir. It hugs Clair and positions itself between you and her.

Clair gently pushes her aside. "It's alright. She's with me."

A timid Inkay comes out and approaches. It reminds you of Trunks. You also see a playful Wobbuffet, a Drowzee that looks at you creepily, and Alakazam that sits there meditating.

When she approaches, a thin cord appears and connects them all. Despite Clair's increasingly grotesque face, she seems at peace here.

Slowly, you approach the cords. You look to Clair for approval first just in case. She gives you an inviting look, and you press forward.

You're an outsider here. You don't sense hostility, just a lack of connection. They seem to like it here. There's an open honesty. It's like they're having a pleasant conversation and you're the quiet one.

Finally, you ask something. "What order did you meet?" You have to say the words out loud.

Clair's grotesque look has faded. She seems at peace. "Alakazam when he was an Abra. He was a better teacher than any humans I met. Then Gardevoir, Solrock, Inkay and Wobbeffet at the same time, and finally Drowzee. There are others, but they're not here right now." She seems tired. "I can't give all of my attention to them at once, even if it's in my head."

You can't find fault in that. You relax here for awhile before moving on. It's nice, but eventually the sounds of the Vance army outside grow loud again, and Clair begins to take on her grotesque look.

The main hallway is long and wide. Torches light the way, but somehow it's darker and colder the deeper you go in.

Clair is floating now. She doesn't seem to want to go in this direction, but does anyways. "Why didn't you try to find out about their moves and abilities?"

That's exactly when we should kick her.
She wanted to take this to mental warfare.
She did it because she thought we'd be an easy target. That we were defenseless against her. That here, in this, she was unassailable. That she could run roughshod over us as she has countless others.
Hubris. Arrogance. Pride.
We must break her. Only then will she learn.

>"Not to me. I don't like how much the others are willing to follow you." Clair keeps close. "I don't like how much Vance trusts you." She sounds nervous. "Seen enough yet? Can we
go?"

I think she has an understandable if not forgivable motive. This trip has highlighted a lot of barriers her powers have erected around her in her life the biggest of which being between her and Vance. I don't think she was trying to start something as much as get perspective on her brother that she no longer can get directly. She never turned anything against us really and has been for the most part respectful the entire time. This was never about us it was about Vance
>>
>>31835410
She probably wouldn't be able to do anything we couldn't handle. We're no stranger to mental horrors. That's why we are immune to her as a dark type in the first place.

I still agree that we don't need to go any farther, we've basically done what we meant to do.

"I wanted to know how they felt about you. Besides, just knowing their moves wouldn't have helped anyway." This hallway goes on forever.

She floats a little higher. The throbbing from her cord grows larger. "It could give you the edge you need to win your badge."

"I want to win because I'm good enough, not because I cheated. Anyone who needs to do that to win isn't worth much as a trainer."

"I'm not a trainer Kat. I'm a gym leader. My job isn't to beat you, it's to test you." Her voice sounds like it's coming from many mouths.

You arrive at the end of the hallway. There are large steel doors here.

"You've seen my dirty laundry and buckled, now its time to air out some of yours." You press forward. You forgot you even had it, but that spear you took out of the oldest Vance is comforting now. You have to lean hard into the door to force it open. What could be so bad? "If it's worse than mine, I'll give you a shot of my booze."

A large terrible beast with many tentacles and eyes glares at you. "I told you you wouldn't like what you see!" It swipes a tentacle at you. "This room is as deep as it goes! This is me!"

Another tentacle comes at you. You narrowly dodge it. You brandish the spear,

"You can't hurt me! I'm a monster!"

Calm down. What the hell is happening? You look around the room. The Clair-monster has a lot of eyes and tentacles, but not an infinite amount. It's guarding a locked box.

Where are the memories? The feelings? All there is here is some fear.

You approach slowly. A tentacle whips by your face. "You can't harm me like this."

You flinch instinctively, but keep moving forward and drop the spear.

"Do you want to be a vegetable? I will flay your mind!"

Another tentacle cracks at your face. This time it connects, stinging you. You don't let it deter you. You reach out to the large main eyeball and collection of mouths that form the center of her tentacle beast.

You hug it. No, not 'it', her.

"What are you-?"

You squeeze. "Monsters don't see themselves as monsters Clair. I think you're just scared. Scared you might not be a monster, just a girl who who's made mistakes. Being a monster is easy, you don't have to try to be better or change, but being a person? That's hard."

The monster fades away. Clair does appear though, instead there's just the box. You hear a thump from it.

Good thing you're good with locks. You're able to pop it open. Clair comes out, naked and shivering.

Hug her.

Okay, so we know:
Robin's keeping a secret from us. Not necessarily a large or important secret, but nonetheless a secret.
Clair sabotaged Vance when he was younger, and has been beating herself up over it ever since.

I expect Vance will resolve his issues on his own, now that we've shipped him with Jeanine, and now that he has a chance to face Clair directly.

That secret from Robin, though, I'm curious about.
But people usually have a reason for keeping secrets.
I wonder what that secret could be.
>>
>>31836816
To be fair, it could just be something about her past. It said she had a secret, not that she lied to us.
>>
>>31836816
If it turns out this IS being broadcast, we may not need to ask.
>>
>>31836816
oh god, what if we got her pregnant?

She used to be he.

Celebrate? I mean obviously Arceus is blessing our relationship.

Quick! Suckerpunch her in the gut!
Or hug her. Hugs are nice.
>>
You hug her closely. She lets out a sob.

You quickly rub your arms up and down to try to warm her up. It works a bit, but you're keenly aware of her nakedness. You wonder what Robin would say to this sight. You're probably just putting your mind elsewhere because you never know what to say in these situations. It lasts a good long time.

"You are what you choose to be."

Suddenly you're back at the gym. You're standing exactly where you were standing when this all started. The machine is still strapped to your head. You glance around the room. After a few seconds people start to look at you.

"Kat, are you alright?" Robin approaches.

"How long was I standing here?"

Robin looks at the others, then you. "A-a few seconds." She tries to touch your foreheard. She looks back at Judy. "What's wrong with the machine?"

"Nothing is wrong with it," Clair's voice echoes out. "She's fine." Clair has massive bags under her eyes, but seems fine. She looks exhausted but relieved.

Vance steps forward. "What did you do Clair?"

You put a hand on his shoulder. "It's fine. I'm good. Really. Just adjusting."

Jeanine speaks up. "You look tired."

You feel tired. You're definitely not 100%. Neither is Clair though.

Clair forces out a shout from her chair. "So do you still want your match right now?"

>Come back tomorrow. You'll both probably make mistakes

>Solrock
Rock Psychic. Physical attacker. Bad at special attacks.
>Gardevoir
Fairy Psychic. Special attacker. Weak to physical attacks.
>Inkay
Dark Psychic. Not fully evolved. Physical attacker.
>Wobbufet
OH SHIT IT'S WOBBUFET
>Drowzee
Pure Psychic. Not fully evolved. Special wall. Suffers a bit from nomoves.
>Alakazam
Pure Psychic. Great Speed and Spatk. Very weak to physical attacks (if you can survive long enough to get a hit in). Solid coverage options.

Stick to physical attacks for your best chance.
Dark, Bug and Ghost moves effective.
Brace your anus for the rape train that is Wobbufet.

I say take a few to talk with everyone and then if she's up for it we might as well get the battle over with today.

So you want to be a Master?

It's either we go in, or Robin and Vance go in. Those two still have their minds rested.

Thanks for coming everyone! I hope you have a great night! Next thread should be Saturday, or maybe even Friday if it opens up. I'll tweet as soon as I know for sure.

Great write-ins and ideas as always. You guys rock!
>>
So, what shall we talk about now that the thread has just hit autosage and the quest itself is over?
Strategy? Angst? The possibility of a bitchin' threesome with Clair?
>>
>>31837487
Wobbefft and Alakazam scare. Maybe Solrock (depending on the situation)
>>
>>31837116
The good thing about wobbufet is that we don't have to use moves, so we can just wait for safeguard to run out and throw down leech seed or confusion for one turn. Wobbufet can't hurt us if we don't attack directly, so we can just beat it in the slowest battle ever.
>>
>>31838399
Mirror Coat is a psychic move that reflects special attacks, Dark Pulse is a special attack.Devon is a dark type.
>>
>>31838483
What I'm saying is, never use a special or physical move. It isn't the game so you don't have to attack every turn, so we can send out trunks, have him use leech seed, sap HP for a short while, wobbufet uses safeguard, leech seed goes away, wait a while, safeguard runs out, repeat. Eventually wobbufet will die since it won't heal and it can't damage us directly. Mirror coat and counter can't do shit to confuse ray or leech seed. Worst case scenario is destiny bond, at which point we switch pokemon, use a super effective attack and end it in one hit so mirror coat/counter can't go through. If she ever switches wobbufet, trunks is still a good pokemon anyway.
>>
>>31838712
You're forgetting Shadow Tag though.

Admittingly, so did I, but dragging the fight out probably isn't a great idea.
>>
>>31838862
Good point, I didn't think of that. Well, if it is trunks, he can still switch out since he's a ghost type, but I suppose we can't rely on switching into a good matchup vs wobbufet or dodging destiny bond with a switch out.
