You feel a flash of light, a tugging sensation and whirling darkness. The cold chill around your body is quickly replaced with a warm bath. The flow around you fills you with vigor and strength. It is comfortable, dark and quiet. In this moment of sudden awareness and peace you take a moment to take stock of yourself. You stretch your awareness out through your form. Images words flood your consciousness, one of them is true.

Yes. You are a fungal spore. Brief memories flicker through your mind. The comfort of the central mass. The urge to grow up and draw your mass inward. Breaking free only to be snagged back into darkness. Now you are…somewhere. It is a good somewhere your instinct tells you. It is time to break free. Quickly shedding your outer shell and spreading out over the ground. Ground? No, muscle the voice in your head tells you. The ground beneath you begins to wither at your touch, but floods the space around you with more food, relaxing you and swelling your form. It is good, but you are not sure you can remain here. The fluid around you begins to drift gently. Do you stay or let the currents take you?

You choose to stay. There are no threats at the moment and the nutrient soup given off by the dying tissue fills you with vigor. You eat a small pit into the muscle and nestle in, your growing form swells and suddenly pinches in two. How strange! Your consciousness suddenly flits into the other cell, before quickly flitting back. It is…disorienting but you quickly learn to manage it. With new resolve you dive into the succulent flesh, budding and spreading, driving deeper. You feel more resilient. The air around you begins to shift. The flow slightly quickens and takes on a tang causing you to pause and consider your next move, between keeping your cell bodies corralled.

Your mind reaches down into the frenzied mass and pulls its hunger back. The death of the tissue slows and your body’s split less frequently. The flow around you remains increased but the rancid taste in the air lessens. A wave of calm fills your mind and a low thought flicks through. Preserve the host. Yes, you should preserve the form you have infiltrated. No need to set things off. What things you ponder? It doesn’t matter now. You draw your mass of cells into the tissue, shielding it from the outside flow. The tissue about you pulses and twitches. Concentrating on the feelings you can pick out two distinct tempos, both equally mesmerizing. A sharp trill sings near the surface while the other, low and slow, thuds deep with hearty pulses. You have enough mass to push towards one.

The twitching song calls to you. You will your mass to slip between the cells, separating membranes and oozing between taught cords. The trilling vibrates across the mass, growing stronger with each parasitic surge. The cells along your outer skin pick from the ripest along the path, bathing your form and growing it. Several of your bodies are left along the path you make, connected by a thin strand of peptides. Your awareness grows. Suddenly a tendril of cells strikes something. A searing flash blots out your consciousness for a moment. Rouge cells twitch and flee, some die. You quickly pull back and rein them in. You eat away at the muscle around the nasty light and reveal a branching conduit. It pulses in time with the siren call you followed, small arcs of pressure jumping between gaps in a slick coating. Nerve, the voice tells you. Another moment of conflict wells in your mind while the sting of energy throbs along your membrane.

A new feeling seeps into your will. Contempt. The sting of the nerve hurt you. You will ensure that does not happen again. Focusing on the tempo of the pulses is the key, you feel. One of your cells detaches from the mass. You pool your intent into this scout and watch as something new happens. The scout begins to secrete something along its form, its membrane stretching until it forms a long point. A strange urge fills your mind. Penetrate. And penetrate you do. A large arc of energy emits from the nerve, your cue to slip inside. There is a brief pause before the cell inside begins to multiply, split and spread throughout the conduit. Your mind reels as information pours into your small consciousness. Noise and pain rip through, a whirlwind of force. There, a single thread, low and under the torrent of information. You grasp it and collect yourself. An image appears in your mind. You are in a branch of the Peroneal nerve in the right leg. Another word flashes. Brain. You need to get to the Brain before the host detects you. The words slink away, but your retain the message. This nerve would serve as a quick route to the brain you figure. Before you can decide, the rear cells you left in your wake begin to wink out, one by one, sending panic down the link. Two options sing in your consciousness.

Your mass diminishes. This is not good. You must grow, not shrink. You whip your mass around, leaving a link to the howling conduit, and proceed down the necrotic tunnel you burrowed. As you retrace your steps the fluid becomes brackish and uncomfortable. The tissue around you is loose, cells pop as you brush against them. Then you see it. A large writhing white mass, slowly oozing down the tunnel. Thick stalks grow from its skin and sweep across the walls, dead cells flowing into its form and dissolving. You arrive just in time to see one of your cells swept up in a similar manner. It bravely resists whatever the foul thing is made of for a moment, before dissolving away. Its presence disappears from your will, but not before killing a section of the beast. The membrane near your dead cell blackens and withers away before being replaced with fresh white proteins. A similar action, though less pronounced is occurring all along the creatures body. Whether it notices you or not, it’s pace remains steady, though its white hue is darkening as it consumes. Another pesky emotion halts your progression. Fear. You do not like this thing and it must die, but how?

If your gestalt consciousness could comprehend color you would see red. How dare this thing consume you! It is there for your nourishment . Death. If your cells are toxic to the creature then you will poison it to death. Your mass surges forward, colliding into the white mass. Cells slip easily into the membrane and your mind is wracked with searing pain. The pain does not deter you. This is a good pain, you tell yourself. The off-white flesh of the beast blackens as your dying cells poison it. More, you surge, as cells pour into the holes opening in its membrane. As you burn your mass to bore into the creature you finally find its heart. The creature tries to tug the sphere away along quickly weakening cytoskeletal wires but to no avail. You pierce the orb causing the creature to quickly fall apart. Some lingering enzymes sting your remaining cells but the beast is dead. As your anger falls away you take stock of the battle. In your zeal, your parasitic mass has halved, loosing most of the cells born from burrowing. All is not lost, in the aftermath you find that the remaining cells are more resistant to the burning enzymes of the creature. The brackish atmosphere has changed. The fluid about you is almost alight with activity. The flow is vastly increased and has warmed considerably. The inviting fluid has taken on a hostile air. You quickly gather up as much nutrients from the carcass and quickly begin replicating. If you had a single form you would lick your wounds before deciding the next course of action.

The warm bed of your incubation has become hostile and foreboding. The only solace is the humming song of the neuron. You draw the majority of your remaining mass to the conduit, leaving only a few tens of cells to remain as your sentries. Curiously, these cells burrow into the healthy tissue and grow cold and hard. It is hard to tap into them, but they are still alive, slowly growing within impervious shells. This pleases you.

Your mind turns to the conduit and you will your mass it slip into the sheath encircling the neuron. The fluid here is vastly different than in the muscle. Thin, you would describe it. The nutrients washing over your form are less varied but sweeter. You cells love it and quickly spread out along the conduit, stopping at the major junction. You are careful to avoid getting too close to the nerve cells, though occasionally implant a sentry in a stray neuron.

The noise does not lessen, nor can you make out any new information. You are glad to find there are no more white beasts lurking about. You are safe for now, and the new food feeds your expansion well enough. Your cells bristle, anticipating your command.

The last time we had a 'microscopic body invade' quest, it went lewd, with the whole 'transfer into other hosts via body fluid' thing. Do you have any intention to do the same here?
Please say no.
>>
>>31858739
No. The parasite you picked does not spread in that manner. We'll see if you guys actually can make it to that point without killing the host.
>>
>>31858739

Oh boy!

Quest with a failure condition? Biological focus? Microbial perspective? No waifus?

I will definitely follow this.
>>
twitter where
>>
how about making people want to spread us by forming a symbiotic relationship or become narcotic like.

we have reached the nervous system so why not mess around seeing if we can replicate nervous tissue then we do the same with brain tissue of course we then rip ourselves from our host taking with us the assets needed for cognitive function.

we then spore, repeating the process until we become a mass of brain and nerve networked under the city catching up to and then surpassing human intelligence.

and that's only one unlikely possibility. I freaking love biology there is just so much potential for weirdness, we could become a super power granting fungus and nature will still probably have made something stranger.
