You are a young doctor, You are a young human doctor, abducted by the K'tulu, and recently released by demand of the Galactic Senate. After you helped thwart the pirate raid on the transport you were on and captured the pirate's second in command in the process, Velik Leis' Battleship Omnicron finally responded to the distress signal the ship's crew sent out at the start of the battle. Due to your crucial role in the battle, having lead the flanking team and personally defeating the lieutenant leading of the pirate's boarding team, as well as being the one recorded as answering the transmission from the Omnicron, you have been hailed as somewhat of a minor hero both the local news and among those that took part in the battle.

While this is merely a small gesture on the part of the media, a quickly and easily forgotten one at that, there are quite few of your fellow Humans on Velik Leis that have recognized you and offered great hospitality to you, which up until now you have politely declined. You did, however accept the reward that was offered to all those who took place in the battle, as well as cashing in on the eighty-thousand credit bounty that was on the pirate lieutenant's head, though you forced your team to accept equal cuts of that one, despite their initial protests.

It is now the start of a new day on Velik Leis. You've been on the planet for almost a week now, your injuries have largely healed and you have managed to, at least mostly, come to terms with what happened during your battle aboard the Deucalion.

A thick cloud of steam lingers in the hotel bathroom as you step out of the shower and grab a towel. It only takes you a few moments to run it roughly across your body, the ludicrously soft material easily absorbing any traces of water clinging to your form, before you tie it around your waist and step forward off the rug in front of the shower.

A soft sigh escapes your lips as you glance towards the cabinet that holds the room's sink, as well as the high tech 'mirror' built into the wall above it. While you've already shaved and brushed your teeth, you feel a small temptation to walk over and check the state of your face, as if he's somehow changed within the last ten minutes. Of course you do have to finish getting ready for your day, not that you have anything in particular planned at the moment, though knowing Angelicia and Lizzie that could change at a moment's notice. Not to mention the tendency Reece has exhibited to try and pull you to every bar in this particular city, regardless of what time it is.

>Go check you 'reflection' in the mirror. It's not like doing it will take up much time, and you know that if you don't look then it's just going to bug you for the rest of the day.
>Just get moving. It's pointless to look again. Your face hadn't changed any from last night when you looked earlier, and it's not going to be any different now.

Despite knowing that it's a waste of time to bother, you step up to the cabinet and wave your hand in front of the mirror, waking it from it's inactive state. "Good morning, Mister Yarick!" A feminine voice chirps cheerily, "It's a beautiful day outside, at a temperature of eighty-one degrees with a light wind. The time-"

You roll your eyes at the room's VI, tuning 'her' out as you clear away the figures from the screen and bring up what, in your opinion, should be the default setting. A few seconds later your reflection is staring back at you from multiple angles across the mirror, courtesy of the hidden cameras that are on a closed circuit limited, you hope, to the mirror. Your vaguely annoyed expression clears as you gaze at your face, running a hand over the short hair that's began to grow back on your head since you've been set free from your prison. Your eyes wander over your toned upper body which looks more like a gymnasts' than a bodybuilder, courtesy of the survival studies the K'tulu performed on you, before darting quickly to the two intersecting scars marring your otherwise handsome, if somewhat slight, face.

The hand you were running across your head slowly travels down to the scars, a frustratingly unreachable itch spreading from your touch. Your stare lingers on the scars for a few moments after your hand falls, telling yourself that you're just making double sure that there's no sort of infection taking root in them, before finally ripping your gaze from the mirror and forcing yourself to walk out into the rest of the suite in the hotel that the transport company rented out for you and the rest of the survivors from the raid, as both an apology and as thanks for your part in saving the crew's lives.
(1/2 or 3)
Sorry for the delay guys. Twelve year old cousin was panicking because she was 'bleeding to death'. It was...awkward.
>>
>>31871265
She has a good head on her shoulders. Never make her think random internal bleeding is something that should be hidden. It just might save her life.

>>
>>31871416

Oh, it's you being non-coherent again.
>>
A small snort escapes you as you walk through the kitchen and grab up one of the fruits left on the counter, one that you've been informed are perfectly safe for your species to eat, before shaking your head at the memory of the look on the crew's faces when they were rescued and told that, rather than Velik Leis' peacekeepers, it was your group that saved the ship.

Honestly you would have been happy with just receiving medical treatment and being dropped off on the planet, as was the actual policy of the transport company, but there was no way you were going to refuse the offer, just like you quickly accepted the ten-thousand credit reward they offered the rest of the people that had joined Angelicia to assault the Bridge. Rather than continue dwelling on your 'adventure' on the Deucalion, however, you choose to shake the thoughts from your mind while taking a bite of your newly acquired breakfast.

You've just wandered over towards your bed and are about to take another bite while trying to decide whether or not you want to bother putting your engineering suit on or just pull on the one set of clothes you have aside from the jumpsuit 'gifted' to you by the K'tulu when you hear the beep of the lock on your door disengaging followed by it sliding open, allowing both Angelicia and Reece to casually walk into your room.

"I'm telling you, Angel, he'll totally go with us. I mean, he was an E.R. doctor, he's in love with adrenaline! Besides I was on his team during the fight, remember? He's an absolute natural at this stuff, even if he does need some experience." A deep voice rings out loudly, followed by an irritated sigh from your other 'guest as the two of them march through the suite, before turning the corner into your room.
(2/3)
Third post will be delayed as the situation develops. I promise that once it's settled I'll be able to pay more attention to you guys. Sorry.
>>
>>31871844

Well, if we weren't going to do the engineering suit before...
>>
>>31871844
Stand there in a towel and say, "Sorry, Angel. You're about a minute too early to walk in on me naked."
>>
Back, situation contained. Girlfriend got home and took over for me. Apparently this is one of those 'girl things' that I'm not supposed to be privy to knowing. I will simply accept this as a sign from god that I should not have a daughter.
>>
>>31872044
Are you the only person available or does your cousin just really like you?
>>
"Okay, first off, don't call me Angel, Julius, and second, I'm not just going to ass-" Angelicia's voice dies off mid-word as her eyes fall on you, her face suddenly flushing with color as she takes in your towel-clad form. "J-Jack, w-what? You- I..."

You feel a similar flush to the one that's dominated your friend's face wash across yours as her words seem to completely abandon her while she just stands in the hall gaping at you. It appears that Reece, on the other hand, is more than capable of speaking as he just gives you a wave as he directs an amused grin at Angelicia, "Hey, Boss." He says casually, before stepping back around the corner, "How's your morning going?"

>Try to remain casual, it's no big deal, just have Angelicia turn around or something so you can pull some clothes on.
>Take the chance to mercilessly tease Angelicia. Of course you're not going to do anything serious with Jaye around, but it's still too good of a chance to pass up.

Wish we had grabbed one of the rifles from the aliens corpses.

Shotgun is nice and all but a rifle is much more versatile.

Despite the fact that you're blushing just as brightly as she is, a slightly amused grin crosses your face. "Hey, Reece. Sorry, Angel, you're just about a three minutes too late to catch me in the shower. But really, if you wanted to see me naked you could have just asked instead of barging in like this." You say casually, before turning to grab the clothes you bought from the market as you her finally manage to start coming to her senses.

"You- I...but you're..." She splutters for a few more seconds before completely regaining control of her words, "What the hell, Jack?! Why didn't you say something when you heard us come in?" She shouts at you, quickly spinning on her heel and stalking away from you, drawing laughter from both you and Jaye.

"Ah, sorry, Angelicia." You call after her while quickly pulling on your underclothes and pants, before walking over to them as you pull on your t-shirt, "I didn't really expect you guys to come in, you surprised me."

Jaye shrugs his shoulders a smile on his face as he does so, "No big deal, Boss. We're the ones that barged into your room, not the other way around."

Your gaze drifts to the mechanic as he says that, seeing that she's finally managed to get control over the color in her face as she sighs and nods in agreement with him, though she doesn't bother to pursue the topic beyond that, instead choosing to change the subject as you sit down on the couch to start pulling your boots on. "So, anyways, you got anything planned for the next couple days?"

Looks like we'll never get it back now.
>>

Well there were plenty lying around too after the bridge battle.

I think OP doesn't want Jack to carry two or more main weapons though.
>>
You raise an eyebrow the question before shrugging, a few of your ideas for the day floating through your head. You were considering going by and seeing Tobias and Lizzie, and maybe taking her to the market since she's been begging you to take her out around the area since you got here. You know that she's been to the market with her brother already, but she doesn't really seem to care much about that, apparently caring more about spending time with you and Angelicia since she learned about your guys' assault. You'd also entertained the thought of just staying in and reading for a bit, or maybe going over to see if Angelicia wanted to do anything...though seeing as she's here at the moment it looks like that it's a given that she does.

Of course on the other hand you'd also thought about going into town and trying to find a job or something...you doubt that you could get yourself a job as a doctor here, hell they probably wouldn't even accept you as an intern, but you could see about some of the more...active jobs that you've heard are posted up on one of the many 'bounty boards' in the market district. You'd never really thought that you would ever even consider working as a mercenary or an adventurer, for lack of a better term, trying to dig in the ruins but apparently that's about the only jobs available for your people here, aside from minimum wage jobs that you'd rather not work.
>>

Didn't really get the chance to see. Figured that you might be able to get somebody at the market to check it out for you if you want.
>>
>>31873827
Then, after we read our whip manual, let's go shopping!
>>
Looks like job hunting and reading manuals are the leading votes. I'll start writing for them now.
>>
>>31873881

I can support this. Read up on our manuals. We still don't know jack shit about our equipment. Imagine if we hadn't read our armor manual before and had tried to go through the pirate siege without our shields?
>>
>>31873932
Imagine if we'd just never use our Plasma Whip after we specifically chose it over the knife. Just let that thing sit like a weight in our inventory. Gathering dust, a wasted weapon choice that could have been filled by that bow.

Pisses me off.
>>
>>31873905
...you guys don't wanna be a doctor anymore?
>>
>>31874008

Now to be fair, when we did draw it (even if we didn't do anything with it) it was *totally* badass.

I wanted the bow too.
>>
>>31874016
What, like, full time? I'd rather raid these magical ruins honestly.

Signing up on a ship as a medical officer might be neat though.
>>
>>31874016
Us guys want to learn how to use a Plasma Whip so we can get rid of that -1.
>>
>>31874038

Eh, maybe after we've thoroughly raided these magical ruins.

We're a psi-sensitive now, after all.
>>
>>31874035
Being completely honest, I went for the whip because making new plasma arrows would have been a bitch. Otherwise, neck and neck.
>>
>>31874038
>>31874049
How about learning alien physiology so maybe we can be considered useful to non-humans as well? Or even just so we can perform medical procedures to aliens in an emergency?
>>
>>31874049
Speaking of plasma whips, didn't we loot another one off a pirate?
>>
>>31874087

Yeah, that's why I eventually seconded the whip too. Also we didn't get an answer on whether the arrows were reusable.
>>
"Well, to be honest guys, I kind of wanted to stay in today. I've barely messed with the manuals I got for my equipment, so I figured I'd do that since I've got the time." You reply before looking up at them, noting the somewhat disappointed looks on both of their faces, "I mean, let's face it. There's no way I'm going to be able to go back to being a regular doctor here, at least not any time soon, and the reward money we got isn't going to last forever either. The way I see it I'm going to end up needing to know how to use that stuff so that I'm able to get at least some kind of paycheck."

At your explanation both of them seem to perk up a little, Jaye slightly more than Angelicia as he smirks at her, "I told you that he'd want to come with us."

Both you and your friend blow out annoyed sighs at his statement, "Look, guys, I don't know what you've got planned, but I'm seri-"

Honestly I'd rather be medic to our small team of uber badass humans.

A confident grin dominates Reece's face as he interrupts you, "No problem, Boss. We're not going to try and stop you from learning how to use your stuff. I'm just saying that I'm pretty sure Angelicia's already got something lined up as far as the job goes, or at least that's that I'm hearing anyways."

The mechanic lets out a slightly frustrated sigh as you turn your gaze towards her, "Really? I thought you were going to wait a bit to find some work." You say, surprise obvious on your face.

"Well, I was. But one of the locals must have recognized me from the news or something last night. He wanted me to sign on to some kind of expedition hes leading into one of the ruined cities here in a couple of days. I told him I'd think about it, but there's no way I'm going to go without you, and Jaye just happened to be with me at the time and apparently he's all for the deal." She explains, shaking her head tiredly, "He hasn't shut up about it since he pounded on my door this morning so that he could drag me here."

I understand why you'd want a reason IC, but this is a /tg quest, how exciting could it be if we just were in a clinic somewhere for the rest of it? I really want to do something related to the medical part of our character, but we also have a few guns, a whip, combat armor, and a need for a job. Might as well put em to use.

I'm for getting a group together to explore these ruins, doing odd jobs, or even a real medical job, and then move toward

Sure sounds like mercenary work to me.
>>
>>31875962
>Who says we can't dungeon dive with a cruiser in orbit.

We don't have a cruiser you retard. That's the whole point of looting ruins.

Besides, we should probably start small ship wise. Unless you want to wait 50 threads to get your oh so special warship.
>>
>>31875913
No, that Actually sounds closer to what I was picturing.
Exploring and odd jobs with the humans, who could pay us, Just not going out and saying "Im going to go looking for people to kill for a living because lol."
Im sure there will end up being plenty of occasions to use a gun and such on this Untamed frontier planet without having to go looking for them. You're just using the /tg/ quest thing as an (extremely poor) excuse.
>>
>>31875981
Doesn't sound like we're participating in a battle. At most I suspect we'll be bodyguards.
>>
>>31876000
He means we can explore abandoned spaceships/spacestations, like they were dungeons on land. Durr.
>>
>>31876064
If that's what he meant, he worded it pretty damn poorly.
>>
>>31876000
I know we don't have one but he is saying he does not want a ship only to dungeon dive. I do not want a super special ship just a medium cruiser, little on the small side, with a group of close friends. Plus we can then store our shit and actually go to another planet without flying coach with normal people.
>>
>>31876050
>At most I suspect we'll be bodyguards.

That's not much better. I'd rather not bother doing escort missions, just find some ruins with some pals and keep all the profit ourselves.
>>
>>31876103
>I know we don't have one but he is saying
Don't you mean YOU are saying?
>>
>>31876120
Agreed. We'll have to see what the terms of this agreement is first. If we're just being hired as muscle and they get to keep all the profit I say we don't go.
>>
>>31876103
Earlier the QM said that even single person FTL ships are prohibitively expensive. I'm saying that unless you want to spend the next 50 threads dungeon diving to earn money, I would suggest setting your sights a little lower.
>>
Reece shrugs at Angelicia's evaluation of him, apparently unable to disagree with her before turning to you. "So are you in? I mean, it seems like it'd be a pretty good deal right? And even if she won't admit it, she totally wants to go." He says, motioning to your mutual friend.

You cast a glance at Angelicia, noting the somewhat apprehensive look on her face as she slowly nods, "Well...yeah, I do kind of want to go, but we said we were going to explore this place together, right? I mean it'd be cool to do it now, but I can wait if you aren't really interested in going now. Like you said, we've got a little while...it's just that apparently this place is one of the few places close to town that hasn't really been touched yet. After this we've got to head further out to get to any of the ruins."

You nod slowly in response, a thoughtful look crossing your face as you do so. To be honest this seems like it could be the sort of job that would work out pretty well, assuming you want to explore the ruins here, and from the sounds of it you've got a couple days before the expedition leaves, so it's not like you're going to be forced to up and leave now if you accept. On the other hand you're sure there's several other jobs that are available on the planet...maybe not any that are going to present themselves so readily though.
>Accept their offer, you kind of want to check out those ruins anyways.
>Nah, you're not going this time. You'll explore the ruins on your own time, not with some expedition.
>Ask them to wait. It seems like it might be an alright opportunity, but you don't want to just jump into the ruins with this group without making double sure you can trust them. Though you might lose your chance to join if you take too long to answer...

Ugh, finally got done tarring a roof. Gonna take a shower, eat something, and maybe take a really quick nap and then I'll update. I know you guys have been waiting a lot longer than I could have ever asked for this to continue, so I'll try and make it as best as I can. That said after spending last night trying to fix connection issues and today working, it'll probably be a bit of a short session. I promise that we can get the meeting with our potential employer out of the way, as well as a small number of other possibilities that may pop up throughout the session.

Until then, I'm curious as to everybody's opinion on your friends, particularly Angel. Despite the appearances, I'm not intending to railroad you guys into a romance or anything like that, to be honest I'm probably shit at writing that kind of stuff, but if you guys want me to cut back on her or start focusing more on other characters then I can certainly do that. Just asking for opinions and feedback, if any of you are interested in giving it. I've got some pretty solid ideas as to where we can go on this world, assuming you guys don't try to hop planet at the first chance, but I also don't want to alienate you guys. For the record, while I may be contradicting myself with this statement, I'm not really going for the super space mercenary route unless you guys really want that. I'm going for more of a Guardians of the Galaxy feel, once we're a ways in anyways. Of course not being all that familiar with it, it's more of I'm going for a 'my first impression of Guardians of the Galaxy before doing any significant amount of research on it' kind of feel.

So take that as you will and feel free to tell me I'm an idiot for pursuing something without doing the research. I kind of deserve it.
>>
Also before I take care of silly things like personal hygiene I figured I'd answer a question that I've seen in a handful of variations.

At the moment you are not really capable of carrying more than one main ranged weapon, considering that you're toting around a shotgun that does not compact, ammo for it and your pistol, and a fully loaded med-bag. This may change in the future. It will almost certainly change

After several moments of thought, during which both of your friends stare at you with anticipation, though the mechanic's is certainly hidden better than the swordsman's, you let out a small hum as you shrug, "Well, I guess I don't really see any reason to at least talk to him and see exactly what the deal with him is. I mean, personally, I'm not really interested in just accepting a job without knowing more than 'it'll be an adventure'...no offense."

Jaye lets out an enthused laugh while pumping his fist while Angelicia's face merely lights up in excitement, "Great! If you want I can call him and set up a meeting him tonight, or whenever you want to really." She says enthusiastically, "Well, obviously it'll have to be sometime today or tomorrow, I just kind of figured you might want to do it tonight so we can pick up whatever we might need tomorrow. Uh...assuming we accept, anyways."

You roll your eyes, slightly amused at the sheepish look the punk shoots at you while the swordsman just continues looking at you triumphantly next to her. Well, you guess that takes care of a job search tonight, if you want to check that out with your friends, which leaves the rest of the day after you read open. You suppose that, assuming Tobias isn't already doing something with her you could still take Lizzie to the market district, or you could go there yourself to check out some of the less kid-friendly or interesting stuff if you wanted. Of course you could also just forgo shopping entirely until tomorrow in favor of doing something else, you know you saw something that looked like a couple blocks over, as well as what you're pretty sure is a restaurant or coffee shop...maybe a bar and grill? Either way it's pretty old-fashioned looking, and by old fashioned you mean 'ye olde adventurer's place'.

You shake your head at losing track of the present, clearly you're getting a bit ahead of yourself. Right now you just need to decide whether or not you want to meet this guy tonight or tomorrow.
>Sure, you'll talk to him tonight. You'd rather have plenty of time to shop if you decide to accept.
>Nah, you'll meet him later. You've got stuff to do tonight that would stop you from making it to the meeting on time. [If you do this you'll be able to choose two from what you want to do later instead of just one.]

You let out a long-suffering sigh at Angelicia's suggestion to meet with the apparent boss of the expedition, as if it was absolutely the last thing you wanted to do today, before giving yourself away with your smile, "Yeah, sure, we can meet him tonight. I don't really see a reason why we shouldn't. Really you're right, if we do end up accepting whatever it is this guy's offering then we may need to end up picking some stuff up before we join him. Besides, I still need to get the seals for my helmet repaired sometime. I doubt that I'm going to end up needing them while we're still down here, but it's not like it would hurt to get it done...not sure how much it'd cost though." You reply, muttering the last bit to yourself before shaking your head to clear the thought from your mind and pushing yourself up off the couch, offering them a small smile while leading them towards the door. "Well guys, I appreciate the visit...probably need to knock next time or something though. Anyways, just call me or send me a message once you get a time set up. For now, I think I'm going to sit down and take my time to read through some more of my manuals."

Jaye nods the grin that's been ever-present on his face since you decided to consider the offer as he and the mechanic make their way out the door, "Will do, Boss. Don't have too much fun without us."

You roll your eyes, "You're both more than welcome to join me if you really want to read about crap that you're not using." You reply waving sarcastically for both of them to get back into your room, though from the look on Angelicia's face she's not interested in the least.

"I think I'll pass, Doc." She mutters, before shooting you a smile, "Like you said though, I'll make sure to let you know when and where we need to meet up in a bit."
(1/2)
>>
>>31898515

With that the both of them turn and make their way down the hall, both of them parting into opposite directions once they hit the fork while you close the door and wander back to the couch, grabbing your tablet off the table on the way. A relaxed sigh escapes your lips as you sit back and start looking through your somewhat mediocre catalogue of manuals. For a brief moment you consider checking your codex for any sort of alien physiology, before realizing that while you might be able to get a little bit out of it there's not likely to be any detailed information like you would need, nor do you have any idea what kind of aliens you're likely to be working on in the near future. With that thought in mind you look back to the list displayed on the screen.
>Check the codex anyways. You may not be able to get much information, but even a little might help you. [If you do this do you want to do a general search or do you just want to look at one species randomly?]

Well from what 'I'm gathering finishing up the armor and reading up on the whip seems to be the most popular option. We can also see if we can find out anything on either Psionics or our shotgun on the extranet. It is highly unlikely that you will find a manual for this weapon, but its' basic features will operate in a similar manner to many of the other shotguns, and for that fact firearms in general. If you'd like you could try experimenting with the weapon to see if you can determine any of it's features, rather than searching about something. If you do this though you will only make it half-way through the plasma whip manual. I'll put this up for a vote now.

Your finger hovers over your codex for a few seconds before you shake your head and let out a small sigh. While you're tempted to try and find something on xenobiology you sincerely doubt that you'll find anything worth your time in there. You figure if you want to play medic for any aliens in the future, and have any realistic chance of them surviving, you're going to have to go out and buy some medical texts just like anybody else.

With that thought in mind your eyes travel down to the half-finished manual for your armor, followed quickly by your finger. A few seconds later the e-book has booted up and you're easily able to pick up right where you left last time you read it. The more you read on your armor, the more you're impressed by it, as well as somewhat disturbed by whoever this 'specimen' was that suggested upgrading the cutting torch originally included in the suit into a small-scale wrist-mounted flamethrower. You're somewhat confused at the revelation that your captors took this advice, considering the fact that you don't remember seeing anything of the sort on your suit.

While you try to remain focused on reading your mind refuses to let you concentrate on doing so until you finally give in and wander over to your armor, searching for the weapon. Now that you know what you're looking for it's easy to find the small device attached to the right wrist...while you're somewhat ashamed of yourself for not really taking note of it before now you doubt that you would have properly guessed its' purpose even if you had tried to mess with it. Still, with the lesson learned you quickly make your way back to the couch and flop on it, taking up your tablet again and continuing your research on the suit.

The manual continues diagramming the flamethrower and its' extremely limited fuel system for a couple more pages before it moves on to talking about the regular maintenance a and repair of the suit. You're surprised to learn that while it does require materials that you don't have, making repairs, and even additions, to the suit is surprisingly simple. You realize that, if you were dedicated to taking the time and buying the tools and materials, you could probably easily repair the seals on your helmet yourself...though you'd definitely want to test it before taking it into a vacuum. The manual leaves off on the proper disassembly and reassembly of the suit, and you note that while it obviously wasn't intended to be taken apart to use the separate components as additions to other suits, it's certainly possible to do.
[Engineering Suit Flamethrower Unlocked! Fuel 5/5]

As the manual's app closes you glance at the time displayed on your tablet, surprised to see that you've still got a while left in the morning, before shrugging and moving down the list. Your mind flashes to your somewhat awkward fumbling with your plasma whip during the battle on the Deucalion and, without further thought, you open up the whip's manual.

The book starts with a short pre-face on the dangerous properties of the whip and a warning that anybody caught using it against the Lenoshan authorities is subject to severe penalties, before going on about how the glorious Lenoshan Empire should be famed far and wide for their innovation. It doesn't take you very long to decide to just skip ahead to the actual useful parts of the manual.

You're pleased to see that almost the first thing that the book hits on are the various stances and forms you can use to maximize your effectiveness with the weapon and avoid personal injury while using it. It details quite a few personal accounts of several, apparently, well known professions that use plasma whips on a regular basis, while including a decent amount of instructive illustrations to go with them.

You continue pouring over the diagrams for a while before, somewhat reluctantly, moving on. As you do so the manual transitions from the proper handling of the whip to talking about its' uses as a less than lethal weapon, in addition to its' traditional use as an efficient lethal weapon that strikes fear into its' wielder's enemies. You've more or less finished up that section of the manual and are about to move on to the next chapter when you're torn from your concentration by the shrill beeping of your communicator.

You grumble a little under your breath as you reach up and tap the annoying device, accepting the call. "Yeah? What's up?"

Your annoyance clears up a little bit as you hear Angelicia's cheery voice on the other end of the line, realizing belatedly that you must have been reading the whip's manual for a bit longer than you'd expected. "Hey, Doc. I just got done talking with our guy, he says that he'd be happy to meet up tonight at some place called the...Dancing Vine? I think it might have been a translator error or something, but he gave me pretty good directions so we should probably be good. Either way, he said he'd be there about seven tonight, so I figure it'd probably be pretty good to get there a little early, if you want."

You nod to yourself at that, "Yeah, makes sense. Get there a bit early, try and make a good impression and all that. Is anybody else coming along or is it just going to be us and Jaye?"
(3/4 Probably.)

There's a short pause from the other end of the line, as if the mechanic isn't quite sure how to answer your question before she finally replies. "I'm not really sure...I mean, I can't speak for the others, obviously. I asked them and they seemed like they might be interested. I'm pretty sure that Tom and Freida are going to go with or without you, but I think Abbi's holding out to see if you're going or not. I do know that Jaye said he's not going to be at the dinner tonight though, he's already damn near accepted the job without waiting to see what it actually is, he said something about having a date tonight or something."

You let out a small snort at the news, and from the tone of your friend's voice it's clear that she's not particularly surprised either, "What about Tobias? Did he show any interest in it?" You ask, though you already feel like you know the answer. You can almost hear her shaking her head.

"No, he's staying behind to keep Lizzie in town, rather than taking her into the ruins. I can't say I really blame him, but I'm a little worried about them, you know? I mean, he hasn't had any more luck than us with getting a permanent job here, and he won't take any of the credits that I've offered him."

You sigh, "Yeah...same here." You mutter, a bit of worry creeping into your tone, before doing your best to push it out of your mind and continue. "So basically it's just going to be the two of us, Tom, Freida, and Abbi then?"

There's another pause on her end, though it's significantly shorter than the last, "Well...yeah, if you want them to come along. They said they kind of have plans but they're willing to come along if you want them to." She replies, for some reason seeming just a little reluctant. "Honestly it's up to you, I don't care if they come along, but he did say that he was hoping to discuss it over dinner. I'm not really sure how expensive this place is..."
(Choices coming next post.)

You raise an eyebrow at the slight hint of apprehension on her voice, though don't really think too much about it. She does make a point, you suppose, that you don't really know much about what kind of restaurant this place is. On one hand it would be nice to have the crew that you're planning to take along with you there to offer their opinions but you could just as easily relay the information to them afterwards, if you're wanting to go. Plus she did say that the other three had some kind of plans...not that they seem particularly bothered by dropping them.

>Might as well invite them to come along, you could use everybody's opinion on the job before taking it.

Wrong picture, but guess that works. Anyways, writing.

You toss around the idea of whether or not you want to bring anyone along for a little bit before shrugging. "Well, might as well bring Bill along, if he wants to come. I've talked with him a bit and he seems to be pretty competent when it comes to talking about prices and such...or at least he is in the shopping district anyways." You say, feeling pretty confident about your decision, though you did seriously consider bringing Freida along.

"Alrighty then. I'll make sure to give him a call...remember, Doc, seven o'clock." She replies quickly, sounding just about to end the call when she suddenly speaks back up again, "Oh, uh...I almost forgot. He, uh...he asked for me to tell you to wear something nice, if we can." She adds quickly, grumbling under under her breath moments afterwards, before seeming to realize that she's still on the line. "Sorry, that's it, Doc. I'll let you go now. I'm sure that your precious books are calling to you."

You roll your eyes at her teasing, "I'm going to hang up on you now, Angelicia." You state firmly, nearly breaking that oath as you hear her laugh in mockery of you, though you manage to resist the temptation to fall for the bait as you reach up and kill the call. With the conversation over you're momentarily tempted to do exactly as your friend predicted you'd do and read some more about the plasma whip, however as you start to make your way over to the couch the shotgun you acquired after the fight where you met Freida catches your eye and reminds you that you were wondering about maybe trying to take a closer look at it to see if you could figure out the holo-sights or something like that, reasoning that it probably wouldn't be particularly difficult to do so since you've already tinkered with the ones on your pistol.

>19, 16, 21 = Great Success!

As you sit down at the table you realize that this is honestly the first time you've bothered to examine your weapon in any amount of scrutiny, something you start kicking yourself for almost immediately as you fiddle with the different options that are almost in plain view on the sights and easily call up the holo-sights to the weapon before letting them die down as it enters dormant mode again. With your initial plans realized you feel a little stupid just sitting there staring at it and are about to get up and go back to reading the whip's manual after all when a couple small buttons near the fore-stock that you missed catch your eye.

Curiosity spreads through you as you pull the weapon closer to you and press the first button in the lineup, only to blink in surprise as several holographic symbols suddenly flicker to life a few inches away from the empty cylinder. From what you can tell they seem to be options to amplify the rounds you fire with a small variety of different effects, such as giving them an electric charge much like your pistol's, superheating or cooling the rounds as they leave the barrel, or even giving them addition armor piercing capabilities. You shake your head in confusion at how the options could even be possible, though it does seem that in order to engage the system it requires the correct round, or else it would just be a useless addition. Thankfully it appears that you still have quite a few cylinders full of those rounds for now...unfortunately you're sure that they're quite expensive and that once you run out it'll be a pain to try to find more.
(2/3 probably.)
>>
While you're still fascinated, and baffled, at the system you decide that you'd probably benefit more from moving on to the next button, rather than sit there puzzling how it's possible that those options even exist. The moment you press the next button, however, you nearly jump out of your skin as a voice sounds from the weapon in your hands. "Place a manipulator digit on the stock for biometric acquisition." You stare at the weapon for a few moments, questioning whether you should bother with doing it until it continues. "This weapon will not be capable of firing until biometrics data has been acquired." Shit.

An annoyed sigh escapes you as you grudgingly comply with the weapon's demands, "Nice job breaking it, Jack..." You mutter to yourself as you do so, wincing slightly as you feel a small pinprick in your hand almost as soon as you touch the stock, causing you to pull it back quickly.

"Biometrics acquired. Records indicate that previously authorized user is deceased. Amount of currently authorized users: one."

"Huh, that's...interesting." You mutter quietly before shaking your head and, somewhat more apprehensively, press in the third button. For a moment you blink in a small amount of disappointment as it doesn't seem to do anything, before it suddenly starts collapsing in on itself, leaving only about half of the stock, the part of the barrel barrel, and the fore-stock exposed.
(3/4) I lied but it should be for real this time.
>>
>>31903533
Is that a pump action revolver shotgun?
>>
>>31904167
yes, yes it it
>>
There's a split second where you panic, thinking you might have actually broke it this time, before it almost immediately unfolds itself as you grab it by its' stock. It takes you a couple of moments, but you quickly decide that this could be extremely useful, as you realize that it's the perfect size to magnetically clip it onto the back of your belt, and it would probably allow you to carry another weapon if you wanted to, even if it was just only one more it'd be useful seeing as how you'd be able to use a rifle for longer distances and then switch to your shotgun when things started getting a bit hairier.

Finally, as you grin down at the re-collapsed weapon sitting on the table, you're pretty sure that you've figured out all there is to know about the shotgun.
(Holo-sights unlocked +1 to accuracy, Ammo Amplification unlocked effects vary, Biometrics lock engaged, having a collapsible weapon allows you to carry another main weapon if you care to do so.)

With that done you push yourself away from the table, looking at the clock in the kitchen as you do so. It looks like you spent about an hour messing with the shotgun, it's one o'clock now. You've got six hours until your meeting takes place. You think back on the other things you were thinking about doing today, as well as a few more that occurred to you more recently. You've been meaning to call Adria ever since you got here, but up until now you've either been too busy to do so or forgot to do it during your down time. It may be a good idea to give her a call.
(Options in next post.)

Of course you've also got to go and pick up some 'nice' clothes...not that you have any idea what exactly constitutes as nice in your situation. Is he expecting you to show up in a full suit and tie, or maybe you should go with a vest instead of a jacket? Then again he could just be expecting you to show up in half-decent clothes, rather than just a t-shirt and pants? Regardless you know that you'll have to take some time out of your day to go and buy yourself some new clothes, so maybe you'll just decide when you get there, depending on what they even have here.

So what do you want to do with the rest of your day, aside from clothes shopping?

You decide that while you'd like to spend some time with Lizzie, now isn't exactly the time to do that, seeing as how you have some actual shopping that you need to do, especially now that you know how to repair the seals on your suit yourself, not to mention the fact that you kind of want to give Adria a call. After doing a quick run around your suite to grab your scarf as well as make sure that you have everything you need to go out, including your pistol and the shoulder-holster you bought for when you didn't particularly feel like wearing your suit just to carry a side-arm.

Having grabbed everything you need you step out the door, holding it open with your foot as you do a shuffle to make double sure that you've got your wallet which contains not just your credit chits but also your room card and I.D., before closing it behind you and heading to the elevator. It only takes a few minutes to reach the ground floor, allowing you to step out into the lobby and start making your way towards the exit, doing your level best to ignore the stares from both your own species and several others as you do so.

The moment you step out the doors you make your way over to the auto-taxi stand and put in a request for transport to the shopping district, you know it's going to be a few minutes, and you're tempted to give Adria a call now, but you decide against it in favor of waiting until you're in the relative privacy of the air-car.

As you wait a few thoughts make their way through your mind though only one, aside from your impending call to your alien friend, sticks with you. You are very curious as to how this meeting with Angelicia and Reece's 'recruiter' will go...from what both of them are saying it could be a pretty good opportunity, though with that said you're worried that it could be an attempt to try and hire some muscle just so that whoever making their way into the ruins can try and push their weight around. If that's the case then you're pretty sure that they're going to be sorely disappointed. That's not what you do...you're here to help people, not be some kind of mercenary. Regardless, one thing about those ruins is for sure, and that is that you're going to be heading to them very soon...with or without the expedition's help.

End of Episode 8.

Well, if anybody's still around and wants to ask some questions I'll stick around for a bit. Otherwise I'm probably gonna head off to bed for some real sleep here soon.
