>the major
Tom Mosely is heavily into the cultist scene.
He wears black robes, keeps a monkey skull on his desk and dedicates his free time to the church of the Nameless.
He is not involved in any dark magic rituals, never mixes his religious life with politics and is always polite and approachable.
Despite his strange fashion he keeps getting re-elected because he's just a good major.

>the bum
Zura Kaede is a wash-out pilot who just sort of drifts through life. His only purpose of being is running away from his problems, which always end up following him around. During the day you can usually find him hanging out at Blast's All You Can Eat, sipping coffee and reading up on current events. He mooches shekels off of his mom so he can go drinking and womanizing. He also likes to pretend to be looking for work, which he doesn't.
The only reason Zura came to town was because it gave a guaranteed minimum income. That way he could be less of a burden to his family.
Despite his strange behavior people generally like Zura. He's always got an interesting story or a new money making scheme. He once even helped the major with his hobby, but the Devil didn't want his soul.

Ben the artificer/enchanter

Ben is an elf as well as a fresh graduate from the country's most renowned magic academy, where he was called a prodigy because of his amazingly massive powers. Sadly, he isn't always in control and tends to mess up an artifact by too less or way to much enchantment. People don't seem to mind though, due to him being a really nice guy. Living alone in his shop, he dedicates most of his time to his work and studies.

Once or twice a week he comes to town to sell some meat and fur and have a drink or two in the tavern. Whenever he is asked a question, he answers with "My name is Geronimo Roeder. I live here." before giving the main part of the answer.

Is convinced he is a man-sized Joghurt. Only dresses in a giant joghurt carton outfitted with holes for eyes and limbs. Is naked under the joghurt. Has a very long backstory about how he discovered he was indeed a joghurt. He likes to pretend his parents died tragically. They are actually in Florida. He is active on social media, promoting the joghurt way of life and fighting against joghurt injustice, while also trying to bring young, confused joghurts into the joghurt community. Escaped from the assylum four times and from prison once (was in prison for biting a policeman).

The Wynrics.
There is the "Wynric Mansion" in the oldest part of the town. Here some novel-like description:

"No one knows who build this house, no one seems to live in it. All the visitors find is more and more items. But the most interesting things are not the skulls of strange creatures with tooth of gems, or the humming Swords in the entrance hall. Neither the moving ghostly figures in the waving paintings nor the rumbling from deep below. It is the stories written on all kinds of papers, journals and books, what draws the people to this strange house. Hidden in the cold mountains. And the tales these tell are the adventures of the family called "Wynric". Never is one of them seen, but every now and then, a new story appears in one of the books, or stack of papers. Covering a new tale of the Wynrics."

The Wynrics are technically a huge familiy of adventurers. But always failures. You see the skelleton in the ancient dungeon, right on the trap? Probably a Wynric. One of the mind controlled bad guys minions? A Wynric. The foolish adventurer trying to stop the ritual summon some demon and becoming the sacrifice therefore needed himself? A Wynric.
They are usually the dead heroes trying to stop the evil guy, before the main charakters appear and safe the day.

Joana Tailor

Formerly a tailor's daughter she now owns various shops and boutiques in the market street, most of whom are catered to the upper class. She was raised by her father above his small shop, a man she despised both for his alcoholism that ruined both the shop and indirectly killing her mother, but also for not being of higher birth. After all, one does not choose one's parents.
Now that he's dead, she's turned the shop into a sprawling clothier's emporium, with customers from the highest strata of society. No one knows exactly how she did this, not for lack of rumours, of course.
Despite being a relatively young woman of great means, she has never married, and any suitor has been promptly refused. Rumour has it she promised her body to some unspeakable horror, in return for great wealth. Other rumours say she simply is a lesbian.

Dick Mittens.

He lives in small house, not very far from town. Nobody visited him and he doesn't invite anyone to do so.

People say he is a war veteran who saw and did far too much to once more become part of normal society.

He minds his own business, doesn't talk much, visit town only when necessary and whenever he does, he buys a few bottles of dark ale, which he seems to enjoy very much.

Sometimes, when he doesn't spot you being near enough, you could hear him saying something along the lines of "elves, fucking elves..."

Katalina Magesdaughter

A cat girl created by a wizard as an assistant in his magical realm. After being killed by a party of adventurers, she moved into the village near his tower and settled down to teach the village children how to read. She didn't originally have a last name, until a tax collector assigned her one based upon her origins. She likes animals, and keeps many as pets at home. Her treatment from her creator has made her wary of men, so her only real companions are her pets.

Erin used to be the gravekeeper. Well, sort of. Her father was gravekeeper, and his father before him, and his father before him, and so on, until she came along and her mother ran off. Her father never really recovered, and SOMEONE had to take over the job of burying folks. So she did. Until she kicked the bucket breaking her neck on a slippery edge.
But the job wasn't done. So she got back up, finished the grave, and thought nothing of it til a few days later when someone finally worked up the courage to point out the smell.
Now she's still technically gravekeeper, tries to put a bright face on things, sleeps in a tub of formaldehyde, and loves flowers. The gardens around the graveyard are a riot of colors and shapes, and she only really comes to the general store to buy more packets of seed.
Wears a heavy scarf and overcoat in all weathers, to keep her head steady. Also thick leather gloves.

"Big Bubba"
His name is Robert but everyone calls hime by his nickname. He's an extremely obese man with severe scars on his face who waddles through town, blabbering incoherent things about "bees".
Clearly mentally challenged, Bubba is obessed with two things : consuming fat food (such as blocks of butter, fried anything, entire wheels of cheese, ...) and tormenting the village's livestock in desperate attempts to eat them. However annoying he is, the villagers just don't have the heart to starve him or to put him down.
He is however very meticulous when you can get him to focus on a task and is put to menial jobs by the other inhabitants in exchange for food.
What the others don't know is that Bubba's mother was an Ogress who got raped by a Bard. When she died, Bubba ate her, this action attracted a demon of Gluttony who tried to posess the kid. However, once inside Robert's head, he was faced with such severe retardation that he couldn't do anything and ended up trapped inside the enormous child's mind. The scars on his face come from an attempt of the demon to kill his host by convincing him that beehives were tasty and filling.

Winston Bureagarde, last in a long line of noble Bureagardes. Secretary at the local law offices, he handles much of the incoming paperwork. Because his skills lie in paperwork rather than field work he spends most of his time among the files, putting together cases that could be tied to his father's murder.

In reality, Winston IS Tripwire. He's building up the legend of a serial killer to hide the fact that his father was killed by one of his servants, as he cannot accept the fact his father was killed by a mere commoner.

Is the emporium called...REVOCS?

Okay, needless KlK shoehorning aside:

Crazy Freddy, the one on third street.

Crazy Freddy is a hobo of sorts. He lives in a cart that he pushes around all day in no specific pattern, and makes a living as a sort of back-alley doctor cum herbalist. He keeps secret the fact that he has a decent amount of gold hidden away, and is simply too miserly to spend it. You can always trust Crazy Freddy to give you something useful that the town doctor can't treat, although he might end up charging you an arm and a leg for it, to make up for ingredient fees.

Thaddeus Johnson, Half-Orc Attorney.
Johnson independently runs the town's most successful law firm and has still been unable to find a case he couldn't lose.
While His brothers and sisters were intent on running out into the world in swords and armour, Johnson adopted the briefcase and suit. Thad's Lawfirm offers to: "Decimate your opponents in one-on-one courtroom combat".
Rumors abound that outside the courtroom setting members of the family have assisted in pro-curing 'evidence' in multiple cases.
This has not been directly challenged yet.

Arthur Dent - The Sandwich Maker

A human about the age of thirty. Tall, dark haired and never quite at ease with himself. Not a native to the town, Arthur showed up one day quite out of the blue, lost and without any idea of where he was, but has since settled in quite nicely into a happy, if uneventful, life.

He lives in a small house, the last on the left side of his street, where he lovingly and expertly crafts the most exquisite of sandwhiches with the help of his apprentice Dimple.
His only possesions of real value are his collection of bread knives and tea set, of which he is quite protective.

Eddy "two books" Politence

An odd fellow from abroad but of good standing in town. He claims to the third son a high mage but no one is able to verify or disprove this (he is not the third son but the first and not a high mage but of the mageking himself). He goes about town carrying at least two books, they never look the same but they really are he just enchanted them to change appearance every so often. Must people believe he loves reading due to this but in fact he hates it being a dyslectic, he is just compensating.
He lives on Arian road 88 between the Merry winds Inn and the courthouse. He is a lawyer by trade but has to turn to wizardry to make ends meet and then some more more. He is an accomplished mage in his own right, but does not like it as it requires reading.
He has integrated very well and no longer speaks with an accent and has adopted local costume to such an extend that it's more of a caricature. He does not like elves, orcs, half orcs, gnomes and chickens.
He is a crush for Katalina, but is unsure how to approach her due to her fear of men and mages. He is also afraid of confessing to her because of her love of books and reading.
has a dog called tidbits that his unseen servant takes out for a walk trice a day.

Nelly

A wood elf with dreams of traveling the world. She hunts for mushrooms and herbs to sell, and sometime will act as a guide for travelers through the forest. The time spent escorting traders from this town to the next are the closest she ever gets to living her dream. Unfortunately, her anxiety of failure and not having a companion to travel with keeps her from wandering. Occasionally, she'll quietly disappear for several days on impulse to see nearby cities, and she always returns just as unnoticed. To the villagers, she appears like any other aloof elf, but, in reality, she's just really too nervous to get close to anyone.

Mr. Magic (real name Susan Matthers Weatherby)

A local alchemist/doctor who makes his living by acting as one part chemist, one part drug dealer and one part snake oil salesman. He is well educated and studied at an academy int he City but chose to leave after he slept with a noblemans son and daughter and left the later pregnant.

He is a natural cheat and liar, a huckster of the finest sort and who has little actual care for how his products affect the lives of others, unless it can somehow come back to affect him. Goes by Mr. Magic because he hates his given name.

His trick is to only shill the cheap/fake/dangerous to passing merchants or travellers and stay on the up and up with the local townspeople, because of this and the fact that he actually seems to know his stuff, he has yet to be run out of town. Although he may be just one sale gone wrong away from a very bad end.

Gordan Jelk - The Builder

When the windows in the tavern need repair, or the barrier wall needs a bit more reinforcement, Gordan's the man to call. Originally from a village by the coast, he settled in the new town out of simple wanderlust. His hair is graying and he's a tad quiet, but he'll participate in conversations if asked. Gordan has the stance and gait of a man who's seen combat, and if the scar running across the left hemisphere of his face has anything to say about it, he has, but if inquired will always blame it on an "accident a long, long time ago."
He became the town's go-to repair man his first day of residence. Or rather, just before. On his way through the gates, a merchant's cart-wheel had broken off the axle, but a few knotted ropes later and it was back in rolling condition. What followed was a steady stream of "Oh! This man fixed that wagon right quick! Say, friend, could you perhaps help me repair this door? It's recently fallen off its hinges and has become quiet a bother." and so forth.
Gordan is a trusted, quiet man. He has waved-off advances from the more... forward... of the lasses in town, but is always polite about it, and has never made one feel like she wasn't worthy of a lover. Just as long as that lover isn't him.

Robert Founderson

A sheepish man of middling age that has retired from adventuring due to 'not being very good at crawling through abandoned ruins'. He's got outsider blood far back in his family tree that expressed itself as sorcerous power, but unfortunately for him it almost always connects to the plane of lust. His one attempt to get things under control and study summoning just leashed him with a very sultry eidolon, and that was the end of those studies.

Robert makes his living with the few spellcasting services he can provide that aren't inherently lewd, mostly fixing things, creating trinkets, and teaching about the outer planes. When asked for services venturing towards his familial powers, he will eventually and sheepishly provide.

Is mostly known in town for the frequency with which his shop is referred to as 'plan c' by the juvenile male population, and one incident in the local tavern involving his eidolon, a visiting cleric of pelor, a drunken dare of a summoning spell, a pineapple, and several mischievous fey beings.
Has a dream of someday getting his magic fully under his control and throwing fireballs etc like a real sorcerer, but he's willing to get by on magical booty calls and harmless spells until then. Hates being called a blue mage.

Believes and respects martial right, spends his days toiling away in his workshop creating beautiful iron sculptures from old useless weaponry. Is initially defensive if approached for anything other than commerce, but will grow to warm to any character who demonstrates bravery, courage, honour etc.

Will participate in any revelry but will generally watch quietly from the sidelines. Loves seeing the exuberance of the town's youth. Children seem to be his only weak spot.

Will task the players with collecting the three remaining shields of his sword-brothers from his life as a swordsman, and is willing to pay handsomely. Does not respond well to threats or insolence.

It would be really fun to begin to suggest relationships between these people.

Like maybe the badass builder has a softspot for the insane killer urchin? Or maybe the Mayor is hooked on the blind alchemists potions?
>>
> Velma the Groupie

Velma is an angsty teenager who dyes her hair and clothes black, and who "hangs-out" with the town's major when her parents aren't pestering her to do something. Everyday, she insists him to show her dark magic. Maybe asking to see a ritual. Just a little one. In return, she helps him deliver objects and occasionally keeps things tidy for him. Yes, yes she was the one who made the mess in the first place, but it's the thought of cleaning it up herself that counts, right?

In reality this is just one if those phases. Velma comes from a family of bakers who own a small shop of their own. When she's free and not bothering the major, she likes to spend her time keeping in shape as well as practice acrobatics. She'd might make for a level 1 adventurer.

Argyle the Captain

He's a riverboat captain by profession, and, while he considers the river to be his home, this town is unique in that he owns an apartment where his daughter, a half-nymph, lives in his absence. He's a cocky and gregarious man who loves to tell stories of his life on the waters. He has a weakness for alcohol and whores, and spends a full half of his profits on them. The other half he dedicates to his daughter and her education. They get into furious fights as he tries to steer her towards a life of study rather than following her natural inclinations to adventure and nature.

this gives me an idea

Thaddeus and Barnaby

Just a pair of guys who decided to join up with the new church when it was first opened in Town (because who joins a cult by themselves afterall?) and have since become its greatest proponents.

Barny and Thad now spend most of their days preaching the teachings of the Awful God Sithrak and how his utter and complete hatred of everything is the only truth in the universe and that nothing you can do will affect your afterlife for good or ill, because the Dread Occasion will mercilessly torment and torture the soul of everyone equally for all eternity.

Overall pretty nice guys though.
>>
Orlof the Giantslayer

Orlof is a carpenter by trade, however he used to be an adventurer. He will always tell about his adventures: slaying giants, killing dragons, saving knigdoms, seducing elf princesses... However he was just a small time adventurer who only killed a handful of goblins and kobolds and one lame ogre during his short adventuring career.
>>
Gobshite

The local town idiot, spends most of his time sitting outside one of the taverns drunk off his arse, Gobshite isnt his real name but its all any one ever calls him. Speaks a curious mix of high class snobbery and utter gibberish, tends to speak loudly with absolute authority and conviction about topics he has utterly no knowledge of. Has been on the wrong end of a number of beatings by local town toughs and irked adventurers, now sports a permanently broken nose, fat lip and an annoying lisp.

No one really knows how he makes his living but the widely accepted rumor is that he is the bastard son of a noble family that was shoved off to the town to be away from nosy rivals.

Braen Braegson

A young farmer who recently inheritted his father farm after he died, an unfortunate incident involving a Whore, a Priest of Pelor and a Bugbear. Now he works his farm alongside his two younger brothers, Braed and Brael and his lame uncle Broen. He is a common sight in town every other week during which time he is either doing business or hopelessly fawning over Joana Tailor, he has yet to gather the courage to even voice his feelings to her despite most everyone in the Town being aware of them.

His farm is primarilly a hops farm which does business with many of the local breweries and taverns, but which also keeps a large flock of sheep and some subsistance crops.

Generally friendly and hospitable even with strangers he has an irrational and uncontrollable dislike of Gnomes and Halfling of all sorts. A little simple and uneducated but not stupid by anymeans, Braen knows the land well and knows how to run his farm and do business. He enjoys his quiet life and thinks his youngest brothers dreams of adventure are a fools dream.

Yet he became a good researcher,w hich led him to becoming one of the most knowledgeable men in the town and teaching at the school.

John Vafbagr is a broad, grizzled man that has "semi-retired adventurer" written all over him. He settled down here about five years ago, and has taken up woodcarving as a hobby. Something a bit slower-paced, you know? With a somewhat rough yet friendly demeanor, he works at a local weapons and armour shop as a consultant, helping customers find which weapons will do the job they need done the best.

His armor, sword, and axe are well-maintained to this day, but he'd prefer they stay hung up a while longer yet. He'd rather see if he could write down his previous adventure, maybe a book or two, before going on another. However, that isn't to say he'd refuse one entirely...

That is a really cool idea. I think I'll plop that on my players!

The Allesie twins.

These two boys, an enchanter and an artificer, make a plethora of weird and amusing items. While not the most effective items, if you're willing to put up with the RIDICULOUS tune they enchant every single item they make with you'll find they can be quite useful - they seem to make every item from a very, VERY durable material.

They've been working on making items that negate special effects, to add value to them. While the show-tune might make the warlock nearly cry of laughter at your stupidity, it won't be so funny to him when you brain his stupid face with a Ladle of +5 Soup Sasting that channels 2d6 positive energy.

Im so going to make this town for my next campaign. Really love all of this. Gonna ad my on flavor to it but something along these lines.

And one from me.

The Kids, a gang of children who spend most of their time searching the forest outside the town for herbs, berries and mushrooms and the long beaches for pretty shells and to fish. Some people think they are reckless for going alone in the forest to be eaten by the wolves but yet every wolf that has tried to attack them has soon run away from them with a hail of small stones and stone spears after them, the Kids have even slayed a couple and sold the hides for great profit.
Without knowing, The Kids are really a rather wealthy gang but they just don't understand or just care about the worth of money. Most of them just wants to be in a gang for the lifestyle and belonging somewhere.

Local entrepreneurs buy their found ingredients and materials.

Adrian Brightblade.

Only son of the famed adventurer Danath Brightblade, the Hero of Vyria, the Uniter of the tribes of the North, Grand Champion of the Interplanar Tourney representing the Forces of Light, who fell after mortally wounding Graac, one of the Dukes of Hell.

He is a deadbeat. Never on his life he had to lift a finger. Every time his father returned he brought several pounds of gold, more magical items he could count, several heirlooms of lost empires and trophies that were the envy of the nobles of the realm. With a mother dead from labor, an absent father and a coterie of servants that were more focused on making a living than making the kid something that would honor the Brightblade legacy, Adrian lived a life of excess and indulgence. Some would say that Danath adventured so much so he wouldn't see the useless human that his son had become. When he died, heroically no less, the influx of gld and riches stopped, but not the extravagant lifestyle. Today, at 70 years of age, there are only two items on the old Brightblade manor that weren't sold to pay the outrageous expenses of Adrian. The Circlet of Pleasures, blessed by an old Goddess of Illusions to work as a debauxhery instrument, and a magical cup that can filll up with a sweet tasting nectar when said the command word.
The wine in the cellar is on its last box tho, so Adrian might be forced to make the hardest choice on his life. The circlet or the cup might have to go.

When preacher Harkfell succesfully started his cult of the Nameless he expected to gain some serious demonic power trough it's interaction with the unnamed deity.
However none of the cultist really have that killer instinct, they treat the weekly meetings like a tea party and aren't willing to bring any major sacrifices (such as a loved one) for the dark magic of their demonic god.
They mostly like the aesthetic of the cult life, the robes, the monkey skulls.
After some years of frustration Harkfell eventually mellowed out, he came to know the villagers a bit more personally and doesn't really want the town to be overrun by hellspawn anymore.

This is after hundreds of years of adaptation to living in peoples houses. His tribe has expanded to every single basement in the town, unknowingly. He has a child like mind, but is capable of manging his tribe. Varagir Elswroth

Varagir is a gruff sorcerer from the north, who has taken up residence in a self-constructed tower just outside the borders of the town after what the rest of the townsfolk assume was an adventuring career. He is unmarried and does not seem to be interested in any of the women in town. On occasional nights, bright lights can be seen from the windows of his towers, and one night (the night after its construction, as a matter of fact) the roof of the tower was set ablaze.

He is wary of any outsiders or villagers who want to come into his tower, but he is more than accommodating of those who wish to speak with him in town.

Desmodus Ominas

This skinny, ominous looking middle-aged man is the owner of the Overflowing Tankard, a tavern that is currently seeing a rise in profits after a long time of near-bankruptcy. This low period is mainly due to superstitions about tavernkeepers, which Desmodus is clearly aware of, and he has done everything he can to try to conform to these conceptions. But his beard only grows out in wisps, he eats all his budget will allow him, but he cannot put on weight, and it does not help that his mother blessed him with the name of the devils.
After getting a letter from the bank of an imminent foreclosure, the kindly and pleasant man gave in to the preconceptions, and his tavern ended up as the main hangout for the bruisers, pushers, and other gentlemen and -women of criminal inclinations.
He is often leered as he walks through town, especially by the town's ex-adventurers, but he puts up with it, as the money he earns is putting his two daughter's through their magical studies.

Thaius Welldweller

Thaius was a skeleton left over from an incursion the town had with a particularly ambitious Necromancer. Spent the past one hundred years in the well, because no-one could be arsed to climb down there and smash his skull in.
He seemed to be very good at dodging the large rocks they tried to send tumbling down, the "klak klak klak" of his mocking sufficiently annoying them.

Then one day, a rather awkward silent girl with red hair so light it might very well be peach-coloured decided to haul him up. Upon rescuing, rather than choking the girl to death, a simple hug seemed to suffice.

He can't talk - though from time to time he does scream out "pre-recorded" calls enchanted to his spine.

The useless bum artificer in town crafted a carapace with black stone for him, which was fused to his ribcage as a make-shift chalkboard.
Two of his digits have a socket for holding pieces of chalk, and this is how he makes a living.
Being the most tirelessly working merchant the country has ever seen.

You guys like it?

S'lao

A foreigner with bright golden skin and strange tatoos that move like fire, from a land far to the south, a land of exotic wonders and the bizarre. S'lao makes his living as a minstrel, and as an actor when any of the taverns decide to forgoe better judgement and allow him to perform.

He tells tales of hideous creature fought by heroes in flowing robes and long curved swords, of fierce elemental spirits bound to do the bidding of their sly masters and assasins that can sneak into even the most secure citadels and leave without a trace.
He sings songs in a strange lyrical language which can move even the most stoic of hearts and his wild gesticulating dances are unlike anything seen before in these lands.
Truly S'lao the Golden is a man from a wonderous place.
Except he's not.
S'lao is actually just your run of the mill bard named Horace Green originally from two cities over to the east. Actually he wasnt even run of the mill, he was a pretty poor excuse for a bard, while he was fairly charismatic with a soothing voice he had a horrible memory for history and so kept forgetting the stories he tried to tell and the lyrics for his songs, he was clumsy repeatedly mucked up his dances and he had no talent for instruments whatsoever.
But one day he was caught up in magical mishap while helping out a young wizard friend with a minor experiment which resulted in his formerlly pale skin being permanently changed into its now famous gold with its shifting tattoos, which itch *constantly*.
He has since turned his skin tone into the centre of his trade, spinning his tales of fantasy and whimsy with no basis(and made up entirely on the fly), singing songs in a language that doesnt exist(and hense have no lyrics to remember) and dancing his foreign mystical dances(really just him flailing about like a made man infront of people.

So far its worked and no one has called him out on his farce.
For now atleast.

Old Shakey

Old Shakeys been in the town for a long, long time now, longer than most any of younger lived races and even some of the dwarfs can remember, only the oldest Dwarfs and the few Elves can really remember a time where Old Shakey didnt live here and everyone agress, before Old Shakey came to town the place was a mess.

Oh it wasnt really that bad, but the Town had grown and expanded quickly and with that rapid growth and all the people that came with it, came the Rats. Small ones, big ones and even Dire ones too.

Then Shakey came into town, younger then, still a spry 16 with hair like flame and freckles on his face. He came waltzing in with a only a sharpened stick, a net and a little Terrier full of more piss and vinegar than most Barbarians.
And soon he was scourging the town of the vermin, delving even into the refuse heeps and gutters to chase the blighted things from the town. Since then he's kept the city mostly rodent free, working only for a small fee and with the right to keep any vermin he catches. He's also earned himself a healthy stash of useful trinkets from thankful townspeople that he keeps safely stashed away in his little hut.

But Shakeys getting old now and he knows it and, whats worse, so do the Rats.

The Venerable Lord Nathanial Blackwing, Master of Shadows and the Malevolant Wind

Most people call him Nathanial these days.
Once he was a great villain and conqueror to the North, where he used his arcane and martial skill to rally tribes and settlements to his banner alike as he slowly dominated more and more of the northlands under his cruel banner. His ruthless tactics and brutal displays of power asured that none could effectively challenge his rule. That reign continued well into his late 50s when he began to consider the future of his kingdom and the possibility of heirs.

Then Vafbagr wandered into his kingdom and promptly punched him in the face until he surrendered and forced to swear an oath of non-violence and to forsake his conquered kingdom.
Problem with an oath of non-violence is that you cant defend yourself from the hoards of petty assholes you wronged ony our way to power, so he fled and left his kingdom to eventually fragment.

Now the 62 year old ex-villain lives in town making his way as a teacher and instructor for the local guard, because despite his forced non-violence he is still an incrdibly skilled fighter and brilliant tactician. But most of the time he spends his time as the towns resident prankster, unleashing trinkets with minor curses and unfortunate charms on the unwary.

It is theorized that atleast a full 50% of the 'Girdles of Genderswapping' on the continent are the work of Nathanial alone.

So this can be a thing in the village right?
A secretive group of individuals seeking to protect their town's profitability and so resort to assassinations.
Looking at some of the guys on this list they'd have their work cut out for them.

its not really a village though, but a full blown Town
not a City though, we dont have a Cathedral OR a University

Eric the Silent

A short, slender, spectacled middle-aged blond human who wandered into town one day and decided to stay. He's a quiet, unassuming, and often overlooked locksmith that often startles people when they finally notice him. Due to his seeming ability to move silently and skill with locks, there are some rumors that he's a master thief lying low after a big heist in the capital. Eric is unaware of this rumor and very confused and annoyed at the amount of town guards that follow him everywhere. He's even more perplexed at the amount of adventurers that come asking him to go dungeoneering with them.

Don't be silly.

She murdered everyone in the organisation. Which she set up herself.
Because she wanted to see if she could ever get beaten.

No-one beats Taps the Untouchable.

Kiefly is another member of Kribbles's tribe, and an "apprentice" to both Vafbagr for creating wood carvings, and to Nathanial for prankster-y. Meaning, Kiefly "sneaks up" on them and eavesdrops, watching and learning.

A consistent headache, yet source of amusement for the two former enemies.

Ugly Gus, Grave Digger

No one really liked Gus, but no one really wants to take his job. The man is short, with bulging eyes, and a bad burn that makes half his face look like a handle left too close to a fire. He spends his days digging the graves, always ensuring there is a fresh one in case anyone takes the opportunity to drop dead. Gus sometimes even talks to the coffins, because they're the only ones who don't throw insults, or sometimes rotten fruit, at him when he attempts to converse. Ultimately he's a nice man, with a fondness for salted fish.

There's already a grave digger

Fine, make him the coal burner, he talks to the wooden stumps he digs out of forest before turning them into charcoal.

Jeremiah Werk.

The Town's clock has been seen as a notable landmark in attracting visitors, however 98% of people never really ask how it's run.
Jeremiah is the one automaton created by the inventor Morton Werk, and his sole purpose in life has always been to keep the town clock working. Despite his duty Jeremiah frequently sneaks away to explore the town with a childlike joy, though he prefers to remain hidden because he enjoys the way people talk about the mystery of the clock tower.

Walter Smythe.

An old man living in an apartment. He hasn't left in a while, giving people the impression he is a bit of a miser. "Old man _____", etc. However, he's actually very lonely. Deathly afraid of water after a bad incident when learning to swim as a child, and easily burning in the tropical climate doesn't leave him a chance to socialise. He moved to the country when he retired, so he didn't realize he would burn so much. It was only after he moved their the town introduced the "canals". He campaigned against it, but it passed none the less.

Sorry. Didn't read that thread, thought it was Sci-fi.

Jack the Boardsman maintains a large wall in the center of town, placing updates on rumours and goings on as well as potential jobs up for grabs. Most of the ex-adventurers stop by at least twice a day to catch up on the goings on of the world around them. As such, you can find him just about anywhere, from the seediest bars and back-alleys to walking alongside visiting royalty, if only for a brief moment.

A local human shopkeeper of the store "Pecious Items" who recently relocated here.
He's an remakably frienly and polite man that seems to always have a spcial little curiosity or some uplifting words for his customers.
>>
Beatrice Greensprout

A halfling farmer living on the south side of town, Beatrice is a middle-aged semi-talented druid. Most of the time, she is scorned by the other farmers, as her fields are consistently more productive than anyone else's. Despite this, she is called upon by her fellow farmers in times of drought or blight to keep them from losing their livelihoods. Her successful farm life doesn't really leave her content, and she often tries to woo handsome young adventurers to whisk her away from her docile lifestyle. Her only family is an awakened brown housecat that she has been training to take over the day to day operations of the farm.

Tall and wiry, Mauvais Cuisinier is easily identified by his handlebar mustache and haughty sneer. A self-proclaimed master chef extroardinaire, Mauvais will only cook for the elite among elite. He refuses most customers that come to his restaurant, only admitting those few whose names are sung by bards far and wide.

Those few would tell you to look elsewhere for fine cuisine, for Mauvais is a terrible cook. Mauvis Cuisinier, you see, considers cooking to be art.. and to Mauvais Cuisinier, the only true art is the avante garde. He only uses ingredients that have never before been tasted, cooked by methods that have never before been tried. He even refuses to taste test his food as that would sully his work, a fact that has likely saved his life on more than one occasion.

Mace, Marc and Mandy: Three brothers, one profession. All of them serve in the city guard, though there will never be two of them in the same shift, since they once didn't notice the city of a threat because they got too carried away with making bad puns.
As alike they look, as different are their personalities.
The oldest brother, Mace is a straightforward and relaxed guy who simply enjoys life a day at a time, while Marc tends to be calmer and more philosophical. Mandy is the youngest and a kind of dark guy, which he says is because of the pain he has to endure every single day just because of his girly name. He often hangs out with Velma to talk about dark stuff.
