You are John James Green, mutant vagrant.

You could be inside right now. Inside where it’s warm(er), where there’s the possibility of food, and where there’s a distinct lack of vampires. Instead you’re standing in the middle a deserted road, surrounded on all sides by the slumped, haphazard leftovers of the scar, exchanging words with a very aggressive disembodied voice.

Not totally disembodied, though. You keep seeing the periphery of a shadow moving like quicksilver through the ruins. It’s got a body, it just doesn’t like staying in one place. Or being seen, it seems.

You nudge Kevin meaningfully. He knows these people. Or something.

He gulps nervously, eyeing the ruins. Without your senses, this creature must seem like some kind of invisible presence.

“So, um, yeah…” His voice warbles uncertainly and he scratches the back of his neck. “…I guess we’re looking for the Young X-Men.” Dear Christ that never stops sounding completely stupid. “Uh, are you one of them?”

“Y-y”– The words come apart in its mouth. You hear jaws snapping – there, then there, then over there – and the voice strings itself back together, snarl by snarl, slowly teasing proper syllables out of the distorted mess. “Ye-s. Wha-aaut do you wannn-t with aus?”

Claws scrabble over stone further away into the ruins, and then again, much closer. Man, this thing is fast…

“Smells like wolf.” Laura whispers.

You sniff the air. Wet fur, musk, clotted, heavy breath. So that’s wolf smell, then?

“Well…” You begin, still a little hesitant at the whole idea of this superhumanly fast recluse. “…We’d like to talk to you guys. Inside, preferably.”

It replies with a sodden grunt, the sound of paws tracking through snow filling the air.

“Yh-esthat is arright.”

The shadow slips on through the ruins at blinding speed. The three of you wait in silence for a moment, your nose telling you little other than that the creature is gone, before edging your way into the dilapidated library that serves as the Young X-Men’s home-base.

You remember the way, passing through the empty lobby into the great ranks of empty bookshelves, eventually coming to the central clearing where Vance lies prone, quiet and still as he was last time you saw him, on a table in the centre of the room. You notice that a second table has been pulled up next to it, a petit, dark-haired girl laid across it, heavy bandages obscuring the top half of her face.

Crouching near the bookshelves, the lizard boy – Victor – glances up at you.

“Hey.” He waves weakly. “Rahne said you were coming.”

You glance around. No sign of a ‘Rahne’, but there is a skinny blonde kid slumped on a chair beside Vance’s table, eyeing you somewhat curiously.

Vance was an Avenger and had TK powers. he's a badass and doesn't have to fight up close if he doesn't want to.

the vampire is either A.) really badass or 2.) devious, like pretends to be helpless in order to lure good Samaritans (or vultures)

“Hey.” You nod in the direction of Vance’s prone form. “Anything changed with him?”

Victor shakes his head. “Not really. We think he’s getting better, though. Jeb’s brother got better.”

Oh? You guess he got in touch with his siblings. That’s good to know.

“Was he capable of describing his attacker?” Asks Laura, stepping forward a little.

“Nah. Jeb says his head’s all muddled or something…”

Well, you weren’t expecting good luck of any kind, so that doesn’t come as a surprise to you. If the universe ever stopped stabbing you in leg, you think you’d kind of miss the feeling of the knife turning. For a while, anyway.

“And the girl…?” You pretty much know the answer already, but assuming mass an ass out of u, and all that. The scar is probably full of things capable of hurting anyone clumsy enough to run into them, jutting debris and sharp falls ranking about the least of the bunch.

Victor stands up and paces by her ‘bed’, shrugging a little. “No idea who she is. Rahne found her out in the snow, pretty much the same as Vance.” The blonde clicks his tongue at that. “We, uh… we think we got to her before hypothermia or anything bad happened.” He pauses, eyes edging upward in thought for a moment, and adds: “Anything worse, anyway.”

“Right, well…” You tell him about the paper, about Vance and the charges against Captain America. Or you start to, anyway, but the moment the words start leaving your mouth, he bites his lip, looking straight down…

“You knew, didn’t you?”

His eyes struggle to avoid any form of contact with yours, shoulders sagging under an invisible pressure.

“Yeah.” Interjects the guy seated nearby, his voice crinkled with anger. Or something close to it. “They know.”

>[X] Everythang.

“They?” You eye the guy. He’s not quite as skinny as that first glance suggests, a lithe, well-toned musculature shifting under his clothes. His dirty blonde hair doesn’t smell of rat and ass, and his jacket is relatively free of stains, all of which lead you to two possible conclusions: that he’s not homeless at all, or that he’s new to the ‘lifestyle’. “You’re not with these guys?”

He shakes his head, a small grin forming under his freckled cheeks. “Nope. Not even a mutant.”

Wait, what? The gears in your head screech to a halt.

“Then… why the hell are you even here?”

He rolls his eyes, and gestures toward Vance. “I’m his friend.”

His friend that followed him into a life of homeless squalor surrounded by filthy – filthy dangerous – mutants? You can’t help but be a little suspicious, but you push those thoughts to the back of your mind. You’re in danger of straying from the issue at hand.
>>
>(2/2)

You turn back to Victor, shrugging.

“Well, okay, your decision, I guess.” Kinda shitty of them not to tell you. But, “I understand why you didn’t tell me. I just hope you know how bad this could go.”

Victor swallows. Clearly, the thought has occurred to him as well.

“Hisako says we don’t leave anyone behind.” He mutters, a little defensively. “Nobody.”

Well… you can’t fault anyone for idealism. Optimism, maybe, but not idealism. You just sort of nod, not entirely sure how to respond to that.

“Anyway…” Moving on. “We’re tracking down the attacker right now. Mind if I take a look at the girl?”

Victor steps back, nodding eagerly. “Uh, yeah, go ahead. Just… don’t touch the bandages.”

You shoot him a quizzical glance, and he just insists that it’s not a good idea. You guess you’ll take him at his word. He seems solid, if kinda jumpy.

You stand over her, breathing in her flesh and her blood, the stains on her big purple coat and the grease in her hair, the snow soaked into her jeans, the gravel under her feet… And it comes to you, slowly, as if from a world away. That same slightest touch as the one on Vance, and on Jeb’s brother. Cold sweat, dry wax, feathers, something acrid and almost bloody…

You lean away, rolling the scent through your nose.

Tastes like desperate. Like something vaguely acidic. You sniff reflexively, a little offended by the mishmash blend of smells, and turn back toward Victor.

“You said that, uh…” You pause. “…Rahne? Rahne found this girl?”

He nods.

“Where’d she find her?”

“Oh. There’s this old playground, like…” He pauses, squinting in recollection, and points rather vaguely toward one of the far walls. “…about fifteen minutes thataway. Rahne picked her up over there. Can’t really miss it, all the buildings ‘round there are basically levelled.”

“Right.”

Sparing once last glance for blondie – who responds with a huge, exaggerated cartoon wink – you say your goodbyes, Victor wishing you good luck as you make your way back out into the cold.

“Well, that was weird.” Says Kevin, glancing back over his shoulder.

You certainly agree.

>[X] Victor’s directions.
>[X] NOSE.

“Well…” You stare out into the jagged horizon the scar. The sun dips perilously low, streaking long arcs of seething red across the darkening grey. Immediately, the absurdity of it all, the whole situation, just drops right across your shoulders, and you suddenly don’t want to say the words, you want to go home, you want to lie down and go to sleep and forget. “Let’s go vampire hunting, I guess.”

You could have just gone home, you dumbass piece of shit. Goddamn.

Following Victor’s vague instructions, you the three of you make your way through the rubble in silence, a small assortment of silly little fears keeping you close to the old roads. True to Victor’s description, the buildings begin to thin out, slowly declining into lower and lower heaps of masonry, until soon enough you’re just picking your way through a field of shattered brickwork.

You spot the playground a fair bit away, the half-melted skeleton of a climbing frame jutting out from the ground in twisted, splayed silence, as if frozen in time, not quite one thing or the other. The ground is black here, like tar, but you smell the roasted gravel and the powdered remains of trees and grass and… animals… beneath your feet, shifting minutely under the thin coating of snow.

You wonder why it doesn’t fall too heavily here…

You breathe deep, filling your senses with ancient, scorched metals and seared earth. It comes to you in waves – waves of stifling frost, of dry topsoil and moist depths far below, scattered bones and flecks of abandoned this-and-that, cardigans and old bags and bits of hair, all of it rubbish now. The old things, though, make way for the new, and you find yourself drawn to the invisible stain of the girl with the bandages, her presence lingering between layers of hours and days, like a deep-tissue scar, like a cancer.

She fell near what’s left of the swings. She’s all over them – her coat, her fingertips, her sweat. You think she was trying to swing herself on them, or something. Her scent cuts all over the playground, but its strongest here. You dig through the loam with your nose, sucking air in, drinking her in.

There was someone else, too. That waxy, feathery someone. That cold acidic touch, that sweat.

“I think I have it.” You mutter. “The scent.”

At least it smells like a person, you think. At least it doesn’t smell like death. Or worse.

Laura nods, sniffing the air. “It is very clear here.”

“Man…” Kevin scratches his head, watching the two of you at a bit of a distance. “This is what being the third wheel feels like, isn’t it?”

You chuckle.

The evening deepens as you follow the scent through the ruins, the light receding into a thin gauze of faltering scarlet. Eventually, you find your way to the front of some old community centre, a hostel or something, probably, the walls and ceiling pretty much blasted away on one side. A broad set of doors stand at the front, flanked by a pair of hollowed-out windows. The scent is strong here.

>[X] Write in.

You don’t like the idea of just kicking down those big doors, not even with Kevin and Laura at your back. The last time you jumped into a suspiciously desolate building, you ended up drugged and blinded and at the mercy of some mad scientist shithead. And handcuffed, too, so possibly a kinky mad scientist shithead (or, y’know, just very careful).

“One sec.” You say, striding closer to the doors. “I’m just gonna take a glance around.”

The vibrant haze of the thermal spectrum oscillates through your vision, etching out the building in shades of sharp, cold blue. Kevin shifts uncomfortably beside you, shivering slightly.

“You know, your eyes change when you do that…”

No. No, you did not know that.

It mostly works against slashing and stabbing weapons at low levels. The exact levels are unclear, but the writing suggests it doesn't give that much.

Sub-dermal armour's main benefit is a constant passive bonus that wont be outwardly obvious or interfere with our powers.

“…No, I… I didn’t know.” You reply, sweeping your vision across the building. “What do they look like?”

“Uh… Your blacks, the black bits” – Kevin gestures vaguely at his own eyes with a pair of fingers. – “get much bigger and shine, or, I guess, glow, sorta red, like dusk.”

“Your pupils dilate and shift along the high-wavelength end of the visible spectrum.” Adds Laura, more succinctly.

“Huh.” You guess that probably looks pretty creepy.

Your ability to see in shades of heat must be improving, though, because you think you can see perceive a vague corona of lingering warmth slathered across the left side of the building, where it’s still relatively intact. Which means that if anyone’s inside, there over on that end.

The three of you decide to stick together, entering as far away from the possibly-occupied stretch of the building as possible, where the walls are little more than piles of frosted rubble. Overhead, the floorboards that comprise the second level jut out awkwardly, naked to the wind and groaning under its lash. It looks like the wing you’re standing in – mostly rubble now – would have once been a common room or something, or a bunch of halls. Once it would’ve been blocked off from the corridor ahead by a long wall, but that has receded to little more than a few intermittent stumps of plaster, revealing a set of stairs and a second doorway leading on into the rest of the ground floor.

“Okay…” Kevin chuckles nervously. “Is anyone else getting a little déjà vu here? First ghosts, now vampires…”

>[X] Explore the rest of the ground floor.

You make your way through the building, stepping your way around the drooping remains of its infrastructure. The hall leads on into a – it looks kinda like it was a big dining room or something. A huge, rectangular table leans heavily on one-and-a-half legs, the smelted ruins of various dishes and cups and assorted cutlery pooled at its feet. There’s little shards of glass everywhere, glimmering in the dark.

Laura breathes in deeply beside you. “Do you smell that?”

You nod. Blood. Not especially fresh, but no more than a day or two old. Kevin grimaces, leaning down to up lift one of the longer shards of glass. A dull, dark stain clings to its edges. You glance across the floor, noting similar flecks of blood all over the place. Looks like someone took a tumble through the glass. Several times.

Laura’s head jerks to the side, her breath shuddering in her lungs.

“Someone else is approaching.”

“What?” Kevin asks, his voice barely making it above a whisper. “Like, someone’s in here with us?”

She shakes her head, her eyes cutting through the dark, back the way you came.

“Someone has followed us.” She pauses. “Or is walking the same path as us.”

She’s right. You perk up your ears, and pick out four distinct set of feet picking their way across the rubble outside.

Fight or flight kicks in. You don’t even know what you’ve stumbled into here, but that doesn’t stop it. Fortunately, though, you have a third choice.

“Right.” You whisper. “I think it’s time to make ourselves scarce.”

You extend a hand to Kevin, who stares at it in dumbfounded silence for a moment, before a twinkle in his eyes indicates that he’s caught on. Those lever gloves of his close around your hand and the two of you slip away under the skin of the universe, or outside it, or wherever the hell it is you go when you flick on the invisibility switch.

“Man, this would’ve been so damn useful back when”–

“Yeah, I know, I know.” You interrupt him, your brow furrowing. “Laura, you should probably…”
>>

I fell a "well, shit" moment approaching...
>>
>(2/2)

She’s gone, leaving naught but empty air in her place, and it strikes you that you can’t even get a proper bead on her scent anymore.

Christ, that’s unnerving.

Edging your way toward the door, you glance outside. Silhouetted against the last gasps of dusk, four figures trail their way down the slope of crumbled brickwork that leads down into the building. Three female, one male, all of them kind of skinny – except one, there’s this one butch chick with what looks like a failed attempt at a Mohawk, all leather jacket and torn jeans, so many piercings all over her you can smell ‘em… she’s built pretty tough. The guy leads the way, long, canine features blending in with the scrawny structure of a young teen, his nose dabbing at the air and ears quivering this way and that. Shortly behind him, having a great deal more difficulty with the debris, is a petit young girl that looks and smells like candy – pink skin, eyes the black of liquorice, and… and… are those butterfly wings protruding through her jacket?

The fourth one –

“Argh!” Hey, you know that voice. You recognize that impotent teenage ire. “I swear, if you’ve been leading us in circles, Gleason…”

That’s Sam’s sister. Paige.

“Nah, don’t worry, it’s cool.” The dog-boy turns back to her, still sniffing at the air. “This is definitely it. The scent’s everywhere. And there’s… there’s… some other guys around, real fresh…”

“Yeah.” Grunts Mohawk. “I smell it too.”

She glances along the length of the ruin (oh, man…), nose twitching in that oh-so-familiar way (oh, man, you don’t like this…), and her eyes focus right on you.

Something in the back of your head screams at you to move.

And then her arm is a blur.

You don’t think. You throw yourself through the doorway, something shrieking through the air above you, slicing a layer from the hem of your coat. You come untangled from Kevin in the mad whirl of your attempt to get free, to get clear, to live, the both of you tumbling down to the ground.

But you tumble straight onto your feet, like it’s something you could always do, like second nature.

Four sets of shocked eyes turn on Kevin, and then on you, and you realize that in your haste to get clear you’ve become visible.

“You!” Paige shouts, eyes wide. “I knew it was you!”

Oh… oh fuck.

You glance to your side, catching a quick glimpse of whatever was on course for you. It’s a long, smooth javelin of bleached bone, currently entrenched very deeply into the doorframe you were peering out through. That looks very lethal indeed.

“No, look, I can explain”–

She charges, skin streaking off her face like shredded paper. Solid steel gleams underneath, cast in fiery red by the light of dusk.

So, I believe someone wanted to know about celebrities?

Most celebs avoid the mutant issue like the plague. If you are at all affected by the opinions of the Bible Belt, it's pure poison, and even if you're not it's going to be divisive among your fans.

A few celebrities that have gotten away with endorsing mutant rights without being ostracized to shit are: Michael Fassbender, the Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Sir Ian McKellen, Michael J. Fox, Peter Jackson, Ben Affleck and Matt Damon (together, at the same time, while holding hands, dressed as Batman & Robin), John Hurt, Lady Gaga, and a bunch more.

Is this Peter Parker a photographer or a web designer?
What do the people of New York think of Spider-Man since he's a suspected mutant?
Would the way JJ communicates with plants from Floral Affinity be similar to Callie Betto's way?
Can JJ be selective with his chameleonic level of invisibility? Could he take something like foundation or paint use only a dot of it and change only his skin color to that color?
What kinda physical change would happen if JJ maxed out Invisibility? What about the other powers?
How you handling actual vampires?
What was Creepers crew like before JJ's withdrawal from the Thug life?
What would you say JJ's taste in stuff is like (I know we decide I just want to know your opinion)? How have people like Vicky, creeper, Joyce, generic thug a, and etc... effect JJ's tastes in stuff?
How would leveling claws & fangs effect his fangs? I fill it be limited by his mouth size.

This Peter is basically Ultimate Peter but not dead. Or a clone. Bendiiiiiiii-

HE'S A MENACE but eh he might not be a mutant possibly and he saved mah niece so maybe he's alright. Basically, it goes up and down.

Essentially yeah.

Nope.

I've described quite a few. Invis wouldn't grant one, though.

I'd be very tempted to just Gangrel it up with them.

Mixed. Some of them scared him even then, but mostly they were okay when he was around. Creeper wasn't old money or old blood; he essentially tied together a whole bunch of disparate, poor gangs.

Hmm. Well, he obviously enjoys classical stuff. I'd assume he picked up some liking for metal from Joyce, maybe an appreciation for 70's rock'n'roll from his dad. Victoria's love of techno could have affected him or could not.

They'd remain the same size, their traits would just be enhanced.

JJ wouldn't be the most reasonable mugga if Joyce was a vampire victim ...
>>
>>31943202
Or it's Callisto who is using Marrows bones because knives are expensive. I would like to see Laura and Callisto fight. Pixie only has one useful power (hallucination dust) and if she uses it her teammates will be affected also. If Gleason takes a swing at Kevin the fight wont last very long.

If Husk had turned into diamond instead of steel I would be a lot more worried. But I think we can take them if diplomacy fails.
