“You’re an ace, Blood!” says Monster. The Cobra is interrupted by a vast pair of rusty shears cutting him in half. Blood flows everywhere, and fades into darkness.

Another figure emerges from the depths, a kind man you haven’t seen in ages. “A princess needs to be rescued,” he says, holding out his hand toward you.

You reach for his embrace, but just as you touch his fingertips, the massive cutting shears clamp down on the man’s wrist. His hand is completely severed. He falls backward into the ocean with a splash. The hand before you dissolves to bone and then dust, letting the ring on his finger fall to the ground with a hollow bang, as the man sinks slowly into the murky waters. At the bottom, you can see the vague outline of another drowned body. The man’s body slowly comes to rest by the other’s side.

A blinding flash of light swallows your vision of the grim scene, and you awake.

You’re in a cramped room, and the only light comes from the burning desk lamp to your right. The light pains your eyes. The air is frigid, and you fail to suppress a shiver. An intimidating man in a white shirt and tie sits behind the desk, while another sits in front of you on a folding chair. Your chair is made of wood, and is uncomfortable to sit on.

On your left is a wall-length mirror. In it you can see the entire room reflected again, except you can also see yourself. Your short black hair is a mess, and there are dark circles under your darker eyes. You look fatigued beyond reason. A host of bandages and band aids bespangle your person. Your other clothes blood stained and destroyed, you’re wearing replacements. The formless Oakland Raiders jersey and the the banged up jeans you now wear aren’t at all flattering, but they’re what the SFPD had on hand.

“Enjoy your nap?” chair-cop asks. “You ready to answer some questions? A good place to start might be your name.”

Desk-cop eyes you wordlessly.

You squint painfully at the desk-cop. "Lights off first, questions second,” you say.

Desk-cop doesn’t budge, but chair-cop gives him a little nod. The desk-cop turns the light so it’s angled down at his desk rather than in your face. It’s a little more comfortable now. (-2 Stress 8/100)

“Okay,” says the cop before you. “Tell us a little about yourself.”

The cop behind the desk lays a couple photographs on the table. “We found these in your wallet. Maybe you can tell us how you know these people,” he says, sliding them toward you.

One photo is a Polaroid of you and Benjamin with your mouths stuffed full of marshmallows. The other is a picture has a couple standing on top of a fallen red-wood tree. The sky in the photo is white, and everything has a sharp grey tone to it. A raven haired man and a woman stand atop the tree, looking down at whoever took the photo. They aren’t smiling. The woman casually holds a little girl on her hip, whose dark hair done is up in pigtails. An identical girl sits atop the shoulders of the man, gripping his hair as if it were a set of reigns. Both of the children wear goofy grins.

Both pictures are worn and cracked.
>>
>>31955825

“So, which one’s you?” desk-cop asks.

These two photographs are the only possessions you care about. Aside from your switchblade and wallet, which were confiscated, they are your only possessions. It irks you that this cop has been getting his grubby fingers all over them. (+5 Stress: 13/100)

Through a mix of conflicting emotions, you decide to reply to the cop’s question. “I’m the one up top,” you say, quietly.

The cop taps the photo of the other girl. You really don’t like him touching that photo. (+1 Stress 14/100) “So you got a twin sister? That’s cute. Where’s she at now?”

After your incident last night, you’ve found your senses are sharper than you’re used to. You can smell the leftover KFC this guy had for breakfast. You can also hear a faint conversation through the supposedly soundproofed two-way mirror that goes on parallel to your own.

“Look, Miss, we can’t help you if you don’t tell us anything,” says the other cop, perhaps feigning impatience to get you riled up. “We know you were involved in the shootout last night. Maybe you could tell us a little bit about what happened?”

>Eavesdrop on other conversation (Dice, please).

They're not hard, but they are less easy than arabic numerals. Nobody uses roman numerals more regularly, so even if they don't take that long to figure out what it says, it's still going to take longer than arabic numerals.

There is no reason to use them to number your threads.
>>

You don’t say anything. Instead, you whip out and snatch up both of the pictures from desk-cop before he can react. It’s good knowing they’re on your person again. (-5 Stress: 9/100)

“A lot of people were there last night,” says chair cop, “and a lot of people are saying some pretty messed up things. Your friends have a lot to say about somebody named Blood. We thought you’d want to share your side of things before we make any decisions.”

You know that’s a lie, because the East Side Cobras would never rat you out. The cops are shooting in the dark. While he’s talking, you try to listen in to the officers outside the interrogation room to get more information on what’s actually going on. You can make out some words from beyond.

“-hard time tracking her down. She doesn’t match any of the descriptions of missing kids from this county.”

“Okay, lots we don’t know. So what do we know?”

“She goes by Blood. I know, it’s messed up, but it’s just how these gangs work. She showed up a few months ago out of the blue.”

“What did the other gang bangers say?”

“Nobody’s talking. The Crips that are still alive are too spooked to tell us anything that happened last night, and the bloods won’t give us a single word.”

“Jesus. And the fire got rid of all the evidence.”

Your attention drifts back to the situation at hand.
>>
Desk cop is getting out a folder. “A lot of kids got killed,” he says, opening it up. “You do realize obstructing justice is a criminal offense, right?” He lays down a picture of Reaper’s body. He’s on the pavement, evidently having been dragged away from the fire. There’s blood everywhere. “You want justice for your blood brothas, don’t you?”

You don’t take well to this cop's tone, nor to seeing your dead friends in black and white. (+10 Stress: 19/100)

Because it's still annoying. As an analogy, Fahrenheit and Celsius are both easy to use tell how hot or cold something is, but nobody likes being told the temp in the system that they don't use regularly. It's an extra instant of time converting the system that they're not as used to.

Who can honestly say that they use roman numerals as regularly as arabic numerals and are just as, or more, accustomed to them? Yeah, they're not impossibly difficult, but is a debatable aesthetic improvement worth making the numbering annoying? Thread numbering is supposed to tell you which number the thread is. To convey information. Doing so with roman numerals is less efficient.

You try not to listen to what’s being said, but rather imagine yourself with your switchblade, winning money on the street doing five-finger fillet. The practiced precision of the imaginary blade in your able hands soothes your nerves some. (-5 Stress: 14/100)

Chair-cop is not happy with your continued silence. “You think this is game, don’t you?” he asks, raising his voice. “It’s people like you that area responsible for these tragedies. People that think taking a life is no big deal, so long as you get more territory out of it, or make more money selling drugs.”

“You know what Officer Flowers, I bet she’s even happy Timothy Johnson’s mother,” desk-cop taps the picture of the dead Cobra leader, “the provider for a single parent household of four kids, has to figure out how to pay for his funeral. Just another opportunity to move up in the world.”

You grit your teeth, but keep quiet. (+15 Stress 29/100)
>>
>>31956771

Desk-cop watches your reaction judgmentally. “Oh no. Our little Blood thinks she’s better than that,” he says. “She’s a real hero.” He withdraws another photograph, and slides it over. It’s a picture of Monster with an old woman, as a kind of family photo. “What about Benjamin Cook? Does keeping quiet do him any good? Did killing Crips make his murder into something special, something you can be proud of?” He scowls at you in disgust. “At the end of the day nobody’s going to give a rats ass that he’s dead. Just another gang banger in the morgue. Good riddance.”

Our little demon girl has such delicious anger - why would we ruin it by constantly exposing it.
We should let it age, just like a fine wine.

>>

You drone out your feelings of anger with something Ben would always tell you. “Hot heads ain’t cool, Blood.” You find the silliness of the statement in your current predicament humorous. (-5 Stress 44/100)

You keep your lips sealed. Nothing leaves the gates.

The two cops watch you with calculating eyes. “Go ahead and show her,” says chair-cop, shaking his head and folding his arms as if sorry about something that must be done.

Desk cop takes that horrible folder of his and takes out another photo. This one has you of it. It’s kind of blurry, but you can make it out as a time the Cobras and their hangers on went to a fast food place. The group is entering the establishment, and you’re amongst their number, walking by Benjamin.

He flips down another photo. This one is of a time you went along with Monster when he was out dealing. You remember that day – it seemed like cops were everywhere, but the weather was nice, and Ben showed you how to stay low.
>>
>>31957075
He takes a final photo and lays it gently on top of the growing pile. It’s one of Monster’s body. It lies in a pool of his own blood, in the Cobra Manor living room. Your blood-soaked hoodie lays discarded by his side. The sight of it brings back the horrible smell of it. You can almost pick up the scent, even though you made sure to scrub and scrape every bit of blood off of you when they let you take a shower. You see his eyes glassing over as he dies. (+30 Stress: 74/100)

The cops watch you in an uncomfortable silence, leaving you with the sight of Benjamin’s body on the table.

You choose to look at the cop in front of you. The picture’s still in your peripheral vision, but you’re not focusing on it.. They’re trying to bait you. Trying to break you. A scene of you bounding across the desk and throttling the desk-cop flashes across your mind’s eye – no, no you can’t do that. You take a second to turn over the offending photograph. Meanwhile, they’re not talking quietly anymore on the other side of the glass, so you turn your attention to what’s being said outside the interrogation room.

“I told you not to push her,” says one voice – it’s not one you heard before. “Look. Let Blood, or whatever the hell her name is, walk. I'll deal with her.”

“She played a key role in the shootout, and she’s our only hope to find out what happened,” says another. “I put up with you, and you do good, but hell if I’ll take orders from you. I can’t let her go without trying.”

“Well that was your try, Aguilar, and believe me, you’ll get worse if she refuses to talk and you keep prodding.”

There’s a long silence. “I think you’d better leave.” He speaks louder, then. “Put that one in a holding cell.”

A couple seconds later, a pair of officers enter the room. “Come with me,” says one, beckoning you with one hand and holding a pair of cuffs in the other.

actually, don't do that now. right now they are putting you back in a cell, if they try to interrogate you again then.

Also, take a deep breath and relax, focus on the good news
1. You had revenge for your two fallen brothers, their killer is dead
2. All the evidence was lost in the fire, this means none of your brothers are in any risk from the pigs
3. The cops lied about the rest of the gang dying, they are all fine and smart enough to keep quiet.

You cooperate with the police, walking over and turning your back so they can cuff you. While the cop is grabbing your wrist, you feel a spark of power dart from him to you, and he shivers. “Damn, they really keep it cold in here,” he says. (+2 PP 7/10)

“Kim couldn’t handle it either,” you say snidely. “You pigs got heat sensitivity or something? ‘Cause Blood’s doing just fine.” You laugh to yourself as the officer shoves you forward and leads you away.

“Keep quiet,” he orders. You pissed him off.

“Can’t stand the cold, can’t take the heat, what can you do, cop?” you say, disregarding his demand.
>>
>>31958671

He doesn’t respond, but his simmering anger is quite satisfying. You feel in control of the situation for the first time in a while. (-10 Stress: 54/100) Add to that the news that they’ve got nothing on you, and that more of your crew is alive than you thought, and you’re feeling right peachy. (-25 Stress: 29/100)

The cop wheels you through the station, past numerous officers going about menial looking jobs. You spot a familiar face being man-handled much the way you are, headed your way. Looks like Ian made his way through the firefight. He wears a cast on one arm and has a string of bruises around his neck.

The crab panics when he sees you. “Don’t let her near me!” he yells, kicking and pushing against his captors. “Oh please god keep her away from me!” The officers accompanying him have to stop to clamp down on his sporadic struggles.

You don’t say anything to the crab’s outburst, no matter how hilarious you find it to be. You do, however, stare at him with a completely flat expression, making no change in your stance as you approach.

When you’re nearest him, Ian breaks and lets out an unflattering shriek of terror. You break eye contact with him after you pass, doing a poor job of hiding your smile. (-5 Stress 24/100)

The cops roll you down the hall down a row of barred sells, all of which are empty. One of the cells buzzes open, and the gate opens. They uncuff you, put you in the cell, and allow it to lock shut again before they walk out.

You’re left to your own devices for the time being. You look around your cell, and have a seat, thinking about what to do with yourself. You might be able to melt a hole in the bars and walk out now that you’re feeling more like yourself, but that might not be a good idea. You could be here for a while in any case.

It takes you about two seconds to find the camera keeping you under surveillance. You take five minutes to make a bunch of stupid faces for your imaginary audience before you get bored. (-1 Stress 23/100)

There are no beds, only the wooden bench and the concrete floor, but you discover you're tired enough that you really don't give a damn. You lay out on the cool, concrete flooring and promptly pass out.

You're interrupted two minutes later at the sound of footsteps. Groggily, you unstick your cheek from the floor and roll onto your back so you can sit up.

There's no light coming in from the windows of the containment bloc. Maybe it's been more than two minutes. You blink the fatigue from your eyes, and find you're feeling a lot better than you were before the nap. (-10 Stress 13/100)

It takes another second for you to recognize the source of the disturbance. A shadowy figure holds completely still at the edge of the hall. It looks like a guy in a gray overcoat. A somewhat familiar guy, now that you're looking.

You crack your neck. "At least tell me they made you check the crossbow at the door."

The man says nothing for a minute.

You've had enough craziness to be phased by this BS. "You plotting my demise or what? Use your words."

The man walks over and settles on his haunches in front of your cell, so he's on your level. The man has short cropped, shock white hair, and a weathered face, with several pretty awesome scars. He's not older than 40.

He wears a pair of military boots good for stomping, and a pair of new jeans. He definitely doesn't have the crossbow, much to your relief. He stares at you, as if trying to figure something out.

How many fucking people have you murdered? And what the hell does that even mean, ‘kids like me’?”

The man gives you an even look. “Hellborn,” he says. “Half demons. Most that can do what you can do are insane by the time they’re your age,” he tells you. “I won’t deny I’ve killed people. the coals are burned until they are ash, ash is one of the best insulators out there, as long as the coals are burned just right ANYONE can walk on them with no harm
And the hooks thing is just a case of flesh wound, they put the hooks in parts that have few nerves, no arteries, and nothing to majorly damage.

Dude, you don't have to want the same response as some other guy, but I think you're delusional if you believe the average person would accept "spawn of the pit" over "weird mutant powers". We're absolutely bombarded by that shit from all media vectors, whereas the situation when it comes to supernatural powers is such that average priest would just kinda laugh if some guy claimed to be a half demon.

You laugh at the ridiculousness of his claim. "Is this the part where you give me a bible?" And then you continue laughing, for a long time.

He waits for your mirth to subside. He begins to explain, but you stop him. "Hold on, I'm not saying I don't buy it. Seriously, some people can't take a joke.” Everyone’s always told you you were crazy or just plain freaked out when you tried to talk about what you could do. This guy’s the first person you’ve met (who isn’t trying to kill you) that has offered you the benefit of the doubt. Your curiosity gets the better of you at this point. “So… we talking like, Satan demons in the religious sense?”

“Frankly, no,” says the man. “But a lot of the demonic imagery you’ll see is inspired by… let’s call them non-denominational demons. There’s really nothing mysterious or mystical about them.”

You’ve watched enough movies to know where this is going. “So this is the part where you tell me either I run with you, or you’ll hunt me down.” You frown at him. “I don’t like threats.”

He raises his hands placatingly. “No one likes threats. I didn’t come here to threaten you. Look, I… it’s a big world out there. I think you know how to handle yourself. Maybe you’re in a tough spot right now, maybe you’re not, I’m not going to say. But I think you’re a good kid. I think you did what you thought was best, last night, and I don’t think you meant for anything to get out of hand.”
>>
>>31961108

He takes a breath. “They don’t have anything on you. They’re going to let you walk in a couple hours, and if you want to vanish and do your own thing, that’s your decision. But… I know you don’t have anywhere to go. And you sure as hell don’t have anyone who understands what you are, and can help you deal with that – and there’s no guarantee that if you did find someone like that, that they wouldn’t try to use you, or hurt you. So, here’s why I’m here. If you ever need somewhere to stay – for a night, a week, whatever – my door’s always open.”

The man brushes himself off and stands, preparing to leave. “I’ll be there when they let you out.”

and that is the strawman. the part where I am supposedly arguing that we accept the "demon spawn" part.
You are ascribing to the false dichotemy logical fallacy of "either you are with me or against me" and "there are only 2 sides for each argument".
you are assuming that only 2 sides can possible exist "I beleive I am a demon" and "I believe this is a disease or mutation". Not a third side of "I don't believe either of those".

We should find out if we can get paid loadsa dosh or something if he works for some secret demon control government group or somethjng. Hanging with him might be cool but I'm pretty sure we wouldn't just leave our gang without at least sending money from time to time as thanks.

oh boy, look at mister elitist.

If tomorrow I gained some super powers which happened to perfectly match the mythos of demons. Namely, fire, shadow, negative emotions, and the ability to assume a monsterous form and a rage problem. Yes I would believe it if someone who obviously knows about it says its because i have demon blood in my ancestry because it fits perfectly. Or rather, I would not outright discard the posibility.

>B... but... that is just because you are tg a nerd. Normal people don't think like that
Yea... go on thinking how enlightened and smarter than everyone else you are. How logical compared to their illogic and superstition.
But I am not going to assume that everyone but me is a retard

Your own words, dude. Note that my post said "a mutation OR WHATEVER" suggestion other things.

Anyway, you seem to be intent shifting your argument around now in order to feign some manner of victory, which is the point where I just call it and get back to questing.

I have to ask you one question, do you think a girl like Sierra who runs with gangs and has been shuffled from home to home is a girl that reads a lot on demon mythos and the bible?

This is correct though. Most people don't constantly associate things in their environment to things from fantasy or mythology.

That doesn't make them less informed, it just means they had a different life experience to you.

Chill.
>>
>>31961495
>reads a lot on demon mythos and the bible?
did she ever read a comic book?
did she ever watch tv?
do you honestly think a single word I said so far comes from reading the bible and not popular media about demons?
ever heard of https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hellboy_(film)

"Wait. Why help me out?" you ask, suspicious. "You don't know me, whatever my record says. If you really know what I am, then you know I could walk out of here over a pile of corpses if I put my mind to it. Nobody wants to live next to something like that - nothing wants to live with something like that." You lean back on your arms and narrow your eyes at him. "What are you getting out of this?"

The man looks down at you shrugs, and then starts walking away. "A whole lot of trouble, I guess. Probably an argument with my wife," he says over his shoulder.

"You didn't tell me your name," you call out after him, somewhat annoyed at his oversight.

"It's Isaac Hallow," he says. A moment later the man rounds the corner and is gone.

Your self-inflated ego that you tend to get around people that you're trying to show up leaves you. What the hell was that? How can you just walk up to somebody and drop a bombshell like that, then cut and run? Holy heck, you've got a lot to think about.

While Hellboy is dope as fuck, you do realize that both the first and second film were considered financially kinda meh because they failed to appeal to mass markets, right?

And nobody reads fucking comicbooks anymore. Even nerds don't read comicbooks, as a medium they've been on life support for about two decades.
>>
>>31961677
>Write-in reaction
>Time to invade hell, overthrow the demon lord and claim his unholy throne for my own.
>>
>>31961633
Nowadays most kids done.

There are more mutants and vampires on TV shows than demons.

Hellboy isn't as popular as Xmen or Avengers.
>>
>>31961732
>And nobody reads fucking comicbooks anymore. Even nerds don't read comicbooks, as a medium they've been on life support for about two decades.
Actually, this is not true.
comic books are more popular as ever. mah and pah comic book STORES are dying out.
Because why the fuck would you go to a store when you can order it online cheaper? Or download a pdf?
Also, have you noticed how hollywood is rushing to turn every single comic they can get their hands on into a movie lately?
>>
>>31961677
Lie down. Look at the ceiling. Don't think about The Exorcist. Be confused.
>>
>>31961751
>There are more mutants and vampires on TV shows than demons.
they might not be main characters but they are still there. buffy the vampire slayer had demons. the american dragon had demons. etc.
hellboy is pretty unique in treating the demon as the protagonist instead of a villain

oh, also teen titans. Raven is a half demon
>>
>>31961764
The increased comic sales are due to the movies, not vice versa. The current boost will only last as long as the MCU does.

Or the DCU if Warner ever gets its shit together.
>>
>>31961787
You have to be in the mind of a teen of now, not a teen 10, 15 years ago.

Most teens don't know who the fuck Buffy is. Most teens don't give a shit about the teen titans, most teens don't know who hellboy is.

But most teens do know the X men, most teens do know the Avengers.
>>

So, he says we are a "demon", but the word is misused and it has nothing to do with satan and religion. So really, this tells us nothing. For all we know a "real" "demon" is a mutant/spellcaster/whatever whose family bloodline has a propensity for fire magics.

I just looked it up, 17 years old.

Considering we are an orphan who was shuffled around a lot I can see her turning into a nerd and escaping her circumstances via fantasy
>>
>>31961953
Nightcrawler is a mutant.

To be honest even in the films their demonic appearances are toned down. And remember Evo? He looked nothing like a demon. He was like a fuzzy blue elf.
>>
>>31961968
Except that people that turn to gangs aren't really nerds. I just don't see her as a nerd if she's been running with the Bloods for a few years
>>
>>31961709

You stay where you are for a long time. You don't know how to feel about this development. You got an offer for a free roof over your head and the potential to actually find out more about the things you can do. And, according to your previous study of demons, there is a high potential that having demonic heritage is kick-ass.

On the flip side, your suspicions that you were fundamentally different from the rest of humanity have been confirmed. And apparently, people like you go insane a lot. The voices in your head are generally logical, but you have detected the tinges of madness echoing there. It worries you.

Also, the only guy that knows anything about being Hellborn or whatever tried to kill you with a crossbow, and you're not so sure you can let that slide.

But this could be your only shot to find out where you belong. It's not an easy choice to make, but you've got a couple hours in a quiet cell to think it through.

-END PART 2-

That's that for today. I admit, you had me a little nervous in the interrogation room, but it turned out for the best.

Anything that could have been better? What went well, what didn't? General reactions?

I think next thread will be Thursday same time, as I have work tomorrow. Updates will be on Twitter.
>>
>>31962033
aren't there some famous gansters?
Also, she is with the gang NOW. she could have turned into fantasy as a kid in her early teens, then later on fell in with gangs.

Tell you what, yours is the only quest I follow since Harlem and Void Quest.

>>
>>31962090
I'm enjoying this quest so far. I'm looking forward to seeing how things will go when we finally get out of jail.
It'd be nice to find out what happened to the rest of the gang. Looking forward to getting some payback

>>
>>31962262

Honestly, I'm not too good at describing people. I'll try to give you a little bit more next time - any details that are important or formative, that is. There are a couple things I should have mentioned already, but they slipped my mind.

>>31962164

I had this story idea in my head for a long time when I found the OP picture. I couldn't have imagined a better one.

Also, to the issue with roman numerals, I will continue to use roman numerals so long as they're not obtuse. XIV won't happen, for example. I think they help in the thread's presentation.
>>
>>31962469
It looks odd in the archive to have the first thread as 1 and the second as II
>>
>>31962469
>Honestly, I'm not too good at describing people.
Honestly, people all look alike even before you take into account modern amneties.
Hair color? curly/straight? length? drills? all can easily be modified
Muscles/fat? workout or be lazy and overeat
Eye color? colored lenses are thing
moles? 20$ each to remove at the skin doctor.

She is a 17 year old white girl, that tells us enough. the rest is whatever we want it to be. I guess we can decide on her NATURAL hair and eye colors. But those are always liable to shift, especially as we tap into our heritage
>>
>>31962773
Didn't OP mention that she has short black hair anyway?
>>
>>31963088
sounds about right, i imagined her with black hair. down to her neck.
... although it might be more authentic if it was in dreadlocks
