Big Changes Quest Thread 10

One. Two. Three. Four.

New set, arms raising high on either side of you and the Toyobo logo stretching across your chest.

Five. Six. Seven. Eight.

You got dark colors for all your workout clothes. Artificial fibers, stretchy, and tight across your body. You bought a few fitted to your uncompressed measurements after you first got back into your apartment, then a few more just in case your baseline grew a bit more. It did, just one more inch. Maybe you’d been keeping this growth in check...even if you want to be bigger. It doesn’t matter. You can grow in other ways.

Nine. Ten. Eleven. Twelve.

Dark colors hide the sweat, but you can feel it and smell it. You restrain your powers while you exercise. Preventing them from allowing you superhuman feats beyond the basic ability of your bullet proof and super human body.

Thirteen. Fourteen. Fifteen. Sixteen.
>>
>>31955531

You’d been relaxing your compression over the past two weeks. Making sure to be around people who knew you. They all marveled at your growth, but you managed to keep it from being spectacle. You exercised, you identified your assailant in a lineup, and you generally lived your life.

Seventeen. Eighteen. Nineteen. Twenty.

Admittedly, you took your old workout clothes and compressed down to the height and shape you’d started from. It filled you with that thrilling excitement, and an unexpected inner warmth, to relax the compression to your new baseline height and weight. Feeling the normally stretchy material taken to it’s limit by just over a month of your new growth and musculature.

You are Tsubasa Campbell and you’ve been awake since 5am flexing, sweating, and lifting. It has come to your attention in the past few weeks of sculpting and gains, that you now take a probably sexual delight in feeling strong, or being stronger than others, or trying to push yourself to be stronger. Its a bit embarrassing.

There is a knock on your door and you ease down the 52 pound free weights in either hand. Even without using your power, they’re so light. It’s funny, you had lost track of how many sets you’d done of which exercises. You’d just gotten lost in it, for the past three and a half hours.

It’s earlier than you had expected, dabbing your face with the towel you set out for yourself and turning on the ceiling fan, you head over to the door. Folding the towel lengthwise and slinging it over your shoulders, you open it to find Kenta in a pressed black suit and adjusting his glasses.

He’s just a little shorter than you, now. Tilting his head back he looks you in the eye, crinkling his nose at something unexpected.
>>
>>31955538

“Good morning, Campbell-san,” he says in certain un, “I’m not too early, am I?”

“I don’t think so,” you sigh, “I just need to clean up. Have you had breakfast yet?”

“Yes, thank you for asking,” he smiles.

Today, you and Kentaro are heading to a job fair together in the city. His company, a foreign one, lost a few executives in the Las Vegas disaster, so a major restructuring went down and certain falsified accounting came to light. Kentaro and a majority of the young hires from the past year in the East Asian division wound up laid off with modest severance packages, but not being one to waste time he was already on the hunt for work and so were you. With the station still out of commission and you still sitting on company mandated leave and bonus pay, now might be a good time to finally do something with your accreditation. The fair isn’t until the afternoon, so you’ve plenty of time before catching a train. After you let him to to sit down in the living area, you -

Kentaro sits down at the low table as you stretch your neck, there is a distinct series of cracks and pops as you do so. Turning, he sees you pull the privacy curtain you put up between your main room and the wide hallway housing your kitchenette and bathroom. After Hanako’s expert spywork, you thought the curtain rod and fabric a wise investment, not that Kentaro would do anything like that.

“I’m just going to take a minute to get cleaned up and changed,” you groan as you rotate your arm, trying to loosen a tightness in your shoulder.

In all the years you’d known him, while he would agree or disagree with the other guys in any group about the objective attractiveness of a celebrity or passing woman he wasn’t one to peep or do anything particularly perverse. Fact was, he once deterred Junpei from doing something exceptionally stupid at a ski resort onsen when you and Kaito were failing to snowboard.

“You seem to be enjoying your new stature,” he comments from beyond the thin wall.

“I like being big,” you smile as you peel the spandex from your frame and deposit it and your towel into your lidded hamper, “I finally feel free of myself, it's empowering,”

“I imagine that is more the result of your newfound dedication to bodybuilding,” you hear him rustling something made of paper.

“High repetition strength training first,” you correct him, “the sculpting is an entirely secondary facet,”

You head into the washroom and close the door, going through all your preparations and showering to clear the salty sweat from yourself. The heat always feels good, and it feels that much better running down every crease and inch you’ve made sure to earn, if at an accelerated rate.
>>
>>31956456

Your chest had indeed eclipsed Hanako’s own assets, much to the “healthily” built girl’s shock. She’d complained loudly about you getting a teenager’s metabolism this late in life wasn’t fair, before sulking off with her sister. You knew she’d get over it eventually, maybe even throw some catty jokes your way as she tried to find fault with your new build.

She probably wouldn’t, she already made a comment about how quickly you’d gotten strong arms that were much nicer than those she used to fall into to try and make you jealous. If anything, your comforting of her that day you got shot seemed to make her decide to embrace herself. Even if she wasn’t being overly huggy or touchy, she was back to being openly and blatantly flirtatious with you.

Wiping the last of the suds and shampoo away, you turn off the pleasing warmth of the shower and grab your towel. Cheating a little, you absorb a bit of the excess moisture while you dry yourself off to hasten things. Regarding yourself in the mirror, you trace a finger over your forming washboard and smile.

Now then, what to wear.

>Pants suit and tie, time to be striking and professionally intimidating.

You fasten your new, and now much needed bra, and slide on a simple blouse. Getting the rest of your outfit in order, jacket, skirt, pantyhose, takes a bit longer. Long years hiding out as a boy have left you unaccustomed to the finer points of wearing and donning women’s clothing, but you’re adapting. You just really miss sturdier fabric and pockets that are worth a damn.

“So, any big presences or sponsors of the fair?” you muse while contemplating the pantyhose.

“Well, a few banks are supposed to be hiring new executive assistants and refilling their office pools. Mitsubishi is supposed to have a large multi table booth for recruitment across all fronts. The second floor is mostly tech jobs with smaller design firms while the third floor of the hotel conference center being mostly a salaryman capture net. This event’s big underwriter is actually Coca-cola, but they’ve no presence as far as the attendance map indicates,” he sighs.

“Anyone you have your eyes on?”

“Mitsubishi has some wonderful advancement programs in their corporate structure, though any of the banks might give me better long term financial opportunities and in company incentives. I suppose I’ll have to put my resume out there and see who is interested first,” he sighs with uncharacteristic uncertainty.

Throwing your jacket across your shoulders, you slide the privacy curtain aside and enter the room. Kentaro seems to be reading your Extreme Wrestling 10 Year Retrospective Photobook. One of the reasons the two of you had become friends in college was your love of professional wrestling.
>>
>>31957962

“You know, in looking over these, I get the distinct impression you could snap someone like Tiger Dream in half,” he says laying the book down on the wrestlers photo in action.

“Heh, maybe,” you smile as you grab a pear from the bowl on the table and sit across from him.

“You were always quick to act and wily when I saw you and Kaito get involved in one of your street fights. I imagine the effort you’ve put into your new physique means you’re spoiling to show it off in a fight,”

Grousing, you bite into the pear.

“You know I’d never hear the end of it from Hitomi for unladylike behavior,” and it isn’t like you could compete fairly on the human level anymore, “As much fun as I think it’d be to piledrive people for a living, I’ve got too much going on to squander my skills anymore,”

“So what has your eye?” he leans forward against the table and meets your eye with his own inquiry.

>Mitsubishi is doing some interesting things with Robotics I would love to get involved with.
>I’m curious to see what the smaller tech firms are doing right now.
>Not sure, do you know if Mori Micro Industries will have a booth there?

1. Playing this by ear.
2. Not sure, will MMI be there?
3. Curious about smaller tech firms.

“No one, really. I’m just going to play it by hear,” you sigh and throw the core of your breakfast into the wastebasket by the ladder into your loft bed, “You know how many years it’s been since I had to look for a job,”

He nods.

“You’ve held the gas station job as long as I’ve known you. Weren’t you up for a management position?”

“I already had it in everything but name,” you lean back, even sitting down you’re taller than him now, “but I’ve outgrown that part of my life. I need to think about the future and what I want to accomplish for myself,”

“Frankly I’m surprised you’re putting so much effort into this,” he takes a water bottle from his bag and takes a sip, “Given your savings, your inheritance, and what you said MMI’s last settlement offer totaled too,”

Money. Money and MMI. Two topics you want to avoid right now. Time to turn the tables and dig back at what’s eating Kentaro. You’re worried as a friend.

“So, what was with that waivering earlier?” you scratch the side of your neck in reaction to an errant itch while not looking directly at him. You can play this nonchalant, “You’re normally so steady,”

Not looking right at him, you miss his initial reaction, but the finality of his responding words leave nothing misunderstood.
>>
>>31959944

“I am upset,” he breathes in sharply, “I almost lost a friend to a freak industrial accident, then learn that friend isn’t...I learn new things about that friend and am able to reconcile those things but find myself furious that they carry on as if nothing has changed when two attempts are made on their life,”

Oh, all of that.

“You...you should worry about yourself more,” he calms himself down, “getting Hitomi and Hanako away from harm was very brave...but going off on your own like that was foolhardy. Knocking the gunman out on your own, well…”

Wow...that was intense for Kentaro. Really intense.

“And even if I’ve reconciled the truths brought about by your near death experience,” he sighs, “You’ve changed so much in the short time that you’ve been back that I barely recognize you sometimes. Not just in the changes to your appearance, but how you carry yourself,” then he smiles, “Other times you’re so frustratingly yourself that I can barely stand you,”

>I’m not going to let them keep me down. I got a new lease on life, without the things that used to weigh me down.

You look down at yourself while he speaks. Its true, aside from the build of your face, you walk in a completely different body. Thin arms now pull taut the sleeves of your jacket if you flex. Where once was a near concave chest are mountains resting atop a pectoral plateau. Your body flares out to meet your wide shoulders rest where once straight hips sat. This person you are now towers over the meek built, but tough and no nonsense person you once appeared to be.

“We’ve got plenty of time, do you want to talk about it?”

He nods, the phantom smile when he reminisced you were ‘so frustratingly yourself’ seemingly vanished.

“We can start with why you don’t seem to take the repeat attempts on your life seriously,”

“I do take them seriously, and I take responsibility for who I am. I’m not going to let them drag any of you down with me. You said it yourself when I got Hitomi and Hanako out of harms way,”
you cross your arms under your chest and hunch forward.

“I’m not going to let them keep me down,” you hold yourself from gritting your teeth. Kentaro doesn’t know the truth, he doesn’t know the half of what you’re dealing with, “I got a new lease on life, without the things that used to weigh me down,”

“You believe who you were was weighing you down?”

“I was stuck. I wasn’t dead, but I wasn’t moving forward either. I was afraid to be grown up. I was the delinquent, I was the smart slacker kid, and I was someone people didn’t expect much maturity from. That was comfortable because being someone mature was so distant from who I thought I could be, because despite getting older, I could never really grow up,” as happy as you let people think you were, this was a sadness that followed you.

Kentaro shifts his position a bit.
>>
>>31974359

“I’m sorry. I didn’t know. It is unfortunate that I did not know a great many things about you despite our friendship. However, I don’t think acting so childish and taking on those burdens by yourself is very mature. Especially with everyone of us willing to lend you support. Your attacker is in custody, and I do suppose that how you deal with those stresses is ultimately up to you, but I hope you would consider the feelings of those close to you when you make those decisions,”

“Yeah, well what are those feelings anyway? At least as far as you’re concerned, this was supposed to be about how you were feeling,”

He regards you carefully, his usual mask of quiet confidence reasserted over his earlier outburst.

“I don’t have many friends. I normally keep my distance from people unless necessary,” he muses, “Then in college I made a friend, and we shared a few interests. Then he dragged me into a social circle where I met the first girl I ever dated, had a clean break up, and then the two of us remained friends in the orbit around the person who introduced us,”

You nod, it was amusing when he and Hitomi had been a thing. They seemed to get along well, him very quiet and her very traditional and stoic.

“I was comfortable and had people I enjoyed spending time with. Then I almost lost the person who had drawn me into a world I had stayed on the outside edge of...and the things I knew about them were all wrong. They had an extra and secretive layer to their life that hid a painful past. It hurt that she was hurt and I, along with her other friends, could do little to help. Then she came back and we learned why she did things from us and then I sat and watched a literal and emotional transformation.”

He lets out a long sigh and slouches.
>>
>>31974366

“Kaito knew and told us that we could be understanding. Hanako waffled on her confusions before finding her footing and sticking to her pursuit. Hitomi took it in stride, barely reacting at all as if nothing had changed like she always does. Junpei had difficulty, but got over it quickly once you reminded him that you were still his ‘big bro’. I,” he pauses, “I didn’t want to talk about it with the others and I waited to talk with you. Then I was afraid because you were changing dramatically,”

“And then you got angry at me and yourself because you were afraid?” you offer.

“Yes. Hmm, I guess I’m being the immature one now,” he reflects, “though I have greater difficulty reconciling my first real friend being the beautiful woman who has appeared in my life like a sudden storm and figuring out presently uncomfortable feelings,”

You had always assumed Kentaro was just being stoic, it hadn’t occurred to you that he had not been talking to anyone about how he fe-

“You know it’s dangerous to get in competition with Hanako, right?” you force a sly laugh, but you are more concerned because...well, really? Kentaro?

You would have expected awkward stuttering from behind a wall of flowers to get your romantic attention from Junpei as far as your friends were concerned, but a confession from Kentaro. That is big, and really unexpected. Left field, unexpected, and kind frustrating. He didn’t mean it as a romantic confession, he called the feeling uncomfortable and you kinda drew it out of him.

He may have been planning on not telling you he found you attractive until he worked his feelings out. Is this a good thing or a bad thing, you’ve got no idea.

“I am well aware,” he says with a quick adjustment of his glasses, “Though I don’t recall trying to edge my way in against her. You wanted to know what was wrong, and I explained myself,”

“Yeah, I figured that part out already. Can’t you take a joke?”

“I can take a joke perfectly well, in fact your frustration with your perceived failure of delivery fell right into my plan to turn the joke around,” he states as a matter of fact.

Kentaro is back to himself. You have another admirer, but at least one who isn’t in pursuit. He rises and goes over to the blue hat you almost always used to wear and picks it up. Perhaps reminiscing of other times.

“You know,” he thinks aloud, “Its sad how this clashes so much with your natural hair color. At least, now that you aren’t dyeing it,”

“Now who’s being ‘so frustratingly’ themselves?” you laugh as you stand; taking a momentary joy that you are taller than him, “Maybe you have a bad sense of color and it just so happens to match my hair perfectly,”

“No, probably just your faulty fashion sense,” he muses before replacing it on the hook to hang, “How many of your outfits did Hanako pick out?”

“That is a low blow,”

“Any I make at this point have to be low, at least compared to a ridiculously giant girl like yourself,”

“You are lucky I know you actually like the way I look now or I’d probably hit you for that,” you mutter heading for the hallway, “figures you’d start poking fun of me being tall, I’m no taller than most guys now. That pear wasn’t enough, I’m going to grab something else to eat,”

Quickly rummaging through your kitchenette, you settle on downing two cans of protein shake in quick succession. You momentarily worry and elate with how much taller you might get. At this point, it’s all a matter of wanting it and letting yourself grow and fueling the permanent change...but you’ve been holding back.

Kentaro was right, you really aren’t the person you used to be. You aren’t the frail and incomplete person who would never grow up and...Hanako and Kentaro both like you. Admitting it to you like that was really hard for Kentaro. He doesn’t show it, but he does struggle with other people and opening up about how he feels. His odyssey of admission probably wasn’t as torturous as Hanako’s, but it was a big deal that you brought it out of him. Did you cross a line? No, he seemed relieved to get it out in the open.

You’re still quite hungry. A small hiccup escapes your lips, followed by a not quite as small burp. Embarassing. You hope nobody heard it. Hmmm, yeah, someone did. Not Kentaro, thankfully. He’d calmly joke that such behavior wasn’t befitting a lady in delightful deadpan. No, the person who heard is much further away than him.

Feeling her before your eyes adjust and see her through your kitchenette window, there on a rooftop half a mile away is Tomoko Tomoe. She is on a rooftop, dressed casually, and looking down a tripod mounted scope and long distance directional microphone. The buzz of nano colony augmentation laps at your inner appetite from both devices.

Giving her a curt wave, you go back about your business and grab a prepackaged melon bread from your pantry and savor it. She, unlike the first time you noticed her from afar last week, gives a small wave in return and mouths with an apologetic smile on her face ‘sorry, work’.

The girl had shown up a few times since that night on the roof among your friends, a couple of times even when you weren’t present. She carried on just like nothing had happened, which you assume has to do with her profession of being some kind of corporate super spy.

She continues to provide you with lip motions to read, but you’ve already heard enough. There is more on your mind as you rummage about for something else quick and easy to get down. There in the back of your pantry is the Nano Machine box that the girl dropped after you shorted it out that night. You’ve been avoiding eating anything that wasn’t actually food since then, trying to maintain a personal illusion of normalcy despite everything.

Normalcy. Today you felt super normal, even after clearly reading someone’s lips from an impossible distance without assistance from a telescope or binoculars. Hanako and Kentaro both think you’re attractive. People think you’re attractive for being who you want to be. It leaves a warmth on your cheeks just thinking about it, that never happened before the accident, now it happens with increasing frequency.

Okay, you’re a young woman. You aren’t going to be all swoony and cutesy or embarrassed that people think you’re attractive. As much as it seems to be an instinctual reaction, you are instead going to own it. Soak it up, you have a look that can subjugate the wills of man and woman alike!

What can subjugate your desires...you aren’t quite sure yet.

“You ready to head out?” you ask back into the main room, having found a pack of drinkable on the go apple sauce to your liking.

Let's chat about our friends. Gossip is best.

And with that I must leave you for today. I hope this extended thread was good and hope to see everyone again soon.

Alright, next time!
>>
>>31977749
Thanks for running!
Did you get time to check out the probabilities? Are they acceptable?
>>
>>31977999

Not yet, things have kept me rather busy. Hopefully I can look at it tonight after work.
>>
So. What are everyone's thoughts on the members of the cast thus far?
>>
>>31978115
For someone who keeps us under constant surveillance Tomoko seems pretty bro-tier.
>>
>>31978115
Most of them are pretty likeable, not a fan of Junpei's schtick and Hitomi could use more characterization, but otherwise good.
>>
>>31978143
>>31978178

Please expand on that for my own grim and glorious purpose. Do any of you have any questions about any of the cast.
>>
>>31980010
Have we been chatting with Tomoko? Does she keep us informed on what her bosses want to know about us, what they tell her to watch out for, pretty much any details of her job?

Also how tall are we? 2 meters yet y/n?
>>
>>31980172
She has been keeping her distance outside of the times Tsubasa has seen her with the others. She has made no mention at those times about that night on the roof.

Tsubasa hasn't had a chance to speak with her alone yet.

Tsubasa is presently five foot and ten inches.
>>
>>31980395
>five foot and ten inches.
7ft+ when?

Also we should hang out with the other characters more. The only ones the players have really interacted with are Junpei, Hanako, and Kentaro with this thread. We don't really have a connection with the others, and all we really know about them are their pastebin descriptions.
>>
>>31980523
A Kaito thread will be on the horizon, along with some interactions with implied characters with connections to Tsubasa.
