Previously, on Princes of the Earth...

Our protagonist, a nameless swordsman with a destiny bigger than he ever realized, fought against impossible odds and thrived. Tracking a monstrous man by the name of Cannibal Hohei and his small bandit gang, the town of Silver March and the Soaring Eagle Tribe eventually led him to his quarry. They had raided caravans and used the supplies to camp out on an abandoned gold mine, intent on using its wealth to attract more followers, likely becoming some manner of bandit lord in the process.

Our nameless swordsman, though outmatched by the group, used guile, determination, and hit-and-run tactics to grind down his foes, though he grew progressively more wounded as he went. Finally, he was victorious, slaughtering them to the last man to guarantee that they wouldn't be able to attract more bandits with tales of the gold mine - likely saving the entire region in the process.

And then, in his moment of victory, the light of the full moon shone on him, as he stood there among the bodies, blades still dripping with blood. In that light stood a pale, shining woman of unearthly beauty, but a somehow alien smile, and eyes that could make a man's blood run cold and haunt his nightmares for the rest of his life.

"Well done," she said, in a voice that sounded as much like a threat as praise.

What do you do now?
>>
Okay. Don't panic. Take things one. Step. At. A. Time.

See if we can find Hohei's head and get your damn reward money for it.

You don't bother to ask her who or what she is. She's a goddess or a ghost or something else terrifying and beautiful and magic. You've seen a god before, once, in a big city parade, and a ghost once from a distance on a haunted hill. But that's not important right now.

What is important is not getting killed. You stay guarded, make a wry comment. "I wouldn't be half as dead as I am now if that was well done."

"You'd be entirely dead if that wasn't well done," she responds, her grin going a bit wider, her eyes more manic. "Or hiding safe somewhere far away. But that was interesting. Most men wouldn't have survived it."

She takes a few fluid, rolling strides towards you, shifting so seamlessly that you barely notice the change as it happens - an androgynous man, an old woman, a pregnant one. She slides into them so naturally you don't even see where the change happens. Looming close, she looks you over, asking, "...now, what kind of person are you?"

How do you respond? What do you want your new stats to be?

You have three stats now - Full Moon (Physical), Changing Moon (Social), and No Moon (Mental). One will be rated 5, one 3, and one 1. I'm expecting the following layout for Scruffy:

>Full Moon 5
>Changing Moon 3
>No Moon 1

But do tell me if you want to lay it out differently.

>>

A bounty hunter needs connections more than brains. Also, considering his background so far social 3, mental 1 makes more sense the other way around.

Not too smart, but you don't really need to be, do you?"

She looks at you intently for a few seconds - you realize there's a beam of moonlight following her like a spotlight. Then she frowns, and you feel your insides scrunch up in fear at that expression. "Well?" she asks, as if you're an entertainer who's failed to deliver. "Aren't you going to say something, ask questions?"

"As a rule, mortals are intensely boring things," she answers, looking at her nail - claws? - now. "But necessary materials for becoming my chosen. So, the threshold is set rather low - high by your standards, I imagine, facing down seemingly-impossible odds and surviving. Now, you're a Prince of the Moon, one of my chosen."

She lets that sink in for a moment. You're still not sure how you're supposed to be reacting to all of this.

"Maybe you SHOULD have been smarter," she says, frowning again. "You seem a bit slow..."

"Lady, you may be the moon, but that's no excuse for being a bitch," you respond. "Especially when you ain't given me reason to think you're anything other than some moonlight spirit trying to con some prayer out of me."

Gonna bring this up now, in an Exalted general a few days ago we were talking about what our totem would be. Most wanted a canine of some type and this gem was put forth from directions east:

GRAVEHOUND
This uncanny breed , first discovered among the necropolis of Sijan, became a favored war hound for both the Abyssals and those who fight them. Unlike other beasts, gravehounds do not fear the dead or shadowlands, and can see and touch dematerialized ghosts. Most disturbingly, when a gravehound consumes the flesh of the dead, it also consumes the victim’s memories, personality and voice. A gravehound who eats a dead person’s memories often tries to complete some last, urgent task of the deceased such as soothing the grief of loved ones, seeking vengeance against its murderer or carrying news to its former lords. Since a gravehound is still a dog (albeit a talking one), some tasks are more difficult than others. A gravehound retains the memories of a consumed victim for a number of days equal to the victim’s Willpower.
>>
>>32039769
Interesting.

A hunting/tracking dog is certainly fitting for this guy.
>>
>>32039769
I still prefer this one:

RAPTOR CAT
The poorly named raptor cat looks vaguely feline, but camouflage-pattern green scales cover its body. This animal waits in trees and attacks anything smaller than a tyrant lizard, as long as it has the element of surprise. A full-grown raptor cat extends eight feet from nose to tail, and can kill a man with a single blow. The beast’s jaw unhinges like that of a snake, so it can swallow creatures almost as big as itself. Raptor cats also sometimes toy with crippled prey, giving them a frightful reputation for cruelty.

"So, I'm 'chosen,' huh?" you ask suspiciously. "So, what, I'm being drafted as your errand boy or something?"

You've been burned in the past - both figuratively and literally - when working for intensely powerful people.

"Or something," she says with a little nod. "You'll be no mere errand boy, like the Star Princes are to the Maidens." She's starting to lose you there. You feel like she's just ranting for the sake of ranting right now. "Nor commanded like the Sun Princes are by their lord. No, you're a warden to the entire world, there to protect it from its enemies. Aside from that, your business is your business - my chosen are servants to none, not even me."

"Warden?" you ask. You kind of like the sound of that. "What, like a sheriff, or a marshal?"

"Yes!" she responds with a big smile. It looks like she likes the sound of that too. "Yes, exactly like that. But all the world is your territory - and your responsibility. You and the other Moon Princes and Princesses too, wearing your silver badges on your brows."

Your head spins at all this - at the scope of what you just apparently go drafted into. But, wait, what? On your brow? "What's on my forehead?" you ask suspiciously.

To answer, she gestures to the water, which has become still and clear, almost like a mirror on this moonlit night. You walk slowly to the stream and look at yourself in it.

(Continued)
>>
>>32040358
You've changed in lots of small ways. Your posture's different. All your scars and blemishes are gone. The dirt and hair and blood and dishevelment you had been in suddenly looks roguish instead of homeless. The entire air about you is changed.

But that's not all. You're standing there in a beam of blinding moonlight, spotlit same as this spirit - people must be able to see for miles around. And there, on your forehead, blazes a brilliant silver circle.

You've heard of that mark before. In the religion of the Dragon Princes, that's the mark of one of the Anathema - demons who stole the light of the Sun and Moon to possess mortal hosts. Skinwalkers. Monsters in the wild nights.

But that's not all. There's also a certain trait you can now see, that you didn't have before. Something animalistic - you have the strangest sense you've seen it before, on a certain type of beast...

You've got a Gravehound's eyes. You hadn't seen a pair of eyes like that since you visited Sijan on a long trip years ago. Thin hunting hounds with milky eyes, like a corpse or a blind man. Haunting, like they can see straight to your soul - and, from what you've heard, they can see and bite the dead. Rumor has it that they can even eat a corpse to gain its voice and memories, and avenge murders, pass on messages to loved ones.

Frankly, those dogs scare the shit out of you, but even you can see the similarities.

"What have you done to me?" you ask, standing up shakily and turning back to the spirit.

"Nothing you didn't earn," she answers smugly.

"So now I'm, what... A monster? A skinwalker? You're going to possess me like a puppet?"

She laughs at that - long, hard. The kind of laugh that sane people don't do, or only do in plays. Like someone who doesn't find something at all funny, but laughs anyway, for their own reasons. "Yes, yes, and no, respectively," she tells you bluntly. "You are becoming a thing of terrible power, and the things you hunt and consume become part of you. But I have no interest in puppets - I would simply eat you if I wanted to own you."

You don't think she's bluffing.

"I'll give you one more question before I go," she tells you, tapping her foot impatiently. "I probably won't even lie, so pick your question wisely."

What's Scruffy say and do?

so in Quix, Gravehounds are probaby Physical 3, while Raptor Cats would be Physical 6. Clear advantage, I'd say.
>>
>>32040680
So one form being twice as strong and dexterous as the other won't have any influence? Sounds pretty stupid.

Relevant-to-form. For Raptorcat everything would be dumped into stuff like that, while Gravehound will give us different bonuses relevant to what it's good at.

"Where do I find more of these Moon Princes?" you ask. "Helpful ones. I figure that, if I'm going to be one of your wardens now, I should probably get some support and training."

"Go... that way," the Moon tells you, pointing at the horizon, somewhere to the... east-southeast, you reckon? "Follow that star - the bitchy one with the tiny butt. If you go that way long enough, they should find you, not the other way around."

Bitchy one with the tiny - you know what, fuck it, you don't need to know. You're pretty sure you can navigate by that star.

"Good luck," she says, and with a too-long laugh fades into the moonlight, as if she was never there.

And then you're just standing there, alone, in a circle of wagons, blood still dripping from your weapons, corpses littering the ground around you, a smouldering campfire still lit. Moonlight still bathes over you - you hope that stops eventually.

What now, though? In an instant, your entire life has changed forever, you're pretty sure. Do you go follow that star? Go tell the Soaring Eagles where their supplies are? Finally take Hohei's head to try to cash in your bounty? And then there's the fact that you're literally standing on a fucking goldmine.

Camouflage-pattern. It's not active camo or something. It's being slightly-better-at-hiding in leafy green environments because they have green scales. The only meaningful advantage they have over gravehounds are higher physical stats, which are irrelevant with how shapeshifting works in Qwixalted.

It takes two chops with your new hatchet to take Hohei's head off. It would have only been one if it had a wider blade - you're definitely stronger than you were before. You put his head in one bag, and grab the back full of gold nuggets and powder, and start heading back the way you came. You figure that you should be back at the Soaring Eagles by mid-morning.

But then... Then you wonder if what she said about being a skinwalker really is true. You've got the eyes of a gravehound now - can you become one? You try to focus as you walk, screwing your face up in a way that you're sure would be hilarious - trying to force your body to shift and change and flow like the moon's did as she walked. You're just about to give up when you feel your flesh... ripple, you suppose. Your bones and muscles squirming under your skin - it's disturbing, and uncomfortable, yet it feels good and right.

And then, just as quick as it started, it stops, and you find yourself on all fours, in a body that feels alien-yet-natural. Four legs, sharp teeth, a tail... And then, just to make sure, you melt back into your normal shape, easy as can be. You shift back once more, tacking your packages in your teeth, and set off, moving at blazing speeds - speeds you're certainly unused to, not being much of a horse rider - your body feeling light and powerful as the ground blurs beneath you.

The sun's not quite risen when you find yourself almost to the Soaring Eagle camp.

>>
>>32041961
You shift back to being a man again as you get close, not wanting to startle anyone. The moonlight faded hours ago, so at least there's that. As you walk in, the tribals all see you - changed, but they hardly saw you before, so it's ignorable. Still, they wait with bated breath to hear how your investigation went.

You open the bag and dump Hohei's head on the ground. "Cannibal Hohei is dead," you declare loudly, dumping his head out on the ground. Some gasp, some cheer, others hurry away at the sight of the severed head. Over the next few minutes - as you stuff the morbid thing back away - you tell them where they can find their supplies. You don't mention the gold mine, but there's jack-all you can do to stop them from finding it if they give the hill even a cursory search.

The Soaring Eagle Tribe seems to want to throw you some kind of celebration or something, though. Patch you up, give you new clothes, treat you to a good meal. That would delay you making your way to somewhere to hand in this head, though, and delay you further from finding the other Moon Princes.

It's a good chance to ask the tribals more about the area, pick up any rumors they've heard lately, and plan for the future.

And if they have a way to make Hohei's head rot slower, that'd be nice.
>>
Alright, it appears people have questions, but would rather argue about them than ask them, so here's some answers.

First off, most Lunars are cannibals. It's required to gain other humans' forms, and most Lunars go for it. They don't necessarily just murder someone in order to eat them, but most are willing to also take a bite of someone they already killed anyway. They don't need to eat much, just a drink of their blood or a bite of the flesh will do.

Second, Razor Cats don't have super stealth. They have green scales that help them blend in to the jungle. If you want that bonus, just hunt down a Razor Cat and take a bite. Your totem isn't about what gives you the best bonuses, it's what fits your personality best, and the majority thought that was the Gravehound.

Third, Gravehounds also just need a bite of someone to gain their memories. They don't gain the memories of beef or deer or whatever other animal you want to eat. They only get them from dead people. You don't need to worry about getting memories from a hamburger, nor do you need to eat an entire dead dude to use the Gravehound's corpse-eating bonus.

Fourth, in Qwixalted, forms don't replace your attributes outright. They give you small bonuses, based on the form taken and your personal power level. There's no massive advantage of any one form over another, aside from the specialties and special bonuses like movement modes and fighting ghosts.

Now can the arguing, it's annoying as hell.
>>
>>32041981
Tell them about the gold in the mine, warn them that they should be careful about mining it and selling it since it could draw someone's attention, and they don't really have the capabilities to defend the mine from bandits and the like.
>>
>>32042105
>take a bite of someone they already killed anyway
Does it really work like that with Qwixalted? Having to go through the hunt, stalking the target is unnecessary?

Also, I vote for leaving. We can consider the gold we've found as the reward, tribals can get their supplies, and we should go find other lunars.
>>
>>32042105
>First off, most Lunars are cannibals.
It's not really a default, you have to take a knack for it and cut out the target's heart and taste its blood.
>>
>>32042105
>It's required to gain other humans' forms
not really. There are charms that let you turn the hunt non-violent or completely replace it with sleeping with the target
>>
>>32042282
>It's not really a default, you have to take a knack for it and cut out the target's heart and taste its blood.
Not in Qwixalted. Most knacks are already part of Lunars' native shapeshifting by default.

Don't make assumptions about mechanics, because they don't work the same way as Exalted.

And, as a side note, that's quite possibly the most-taken knack out there, alongside the ones that let you take larger and smaller forms.
>>
>>32041981

You decide not to stick around. This head is already more than a day dead, and it's not going to be getting fresher anytime soon. You want to get back to somewhere that you can trade it in before it starts rotting.

You do, however, ask for an audience with their chieftan before you go. You're brought on in to a small house, one of the only non-communal ones in the town. The chieftan - a wrinkled old woman with tattoos declaring her status as a highly-decorated warrior. That was probably some time ago, though.

You take a seat with her, and she asks, without preamble, "I thank you for helping us with our bandit problem, but I've been told you have something you wanted to talk to me about."

"Yes, ma'am," you confirm, tipping her your hat. "It's about why Hohei was raiding in the first place. Down south of here, in your tribe's old hunting grounds based on a totem arch I found, there's a big hill. And on that hill's a mine that has gold in it - they were stealing supplies to feed and supply a mining operation. It's on your land, and I have no way of getting the goods myself, so I figured I ought to tell you."

She sits in silence for a few long seconds, then splits into a gap-toothed grin. "That's very good news," she says. "That... That will change a lot of things for our tribe. For the better."

"I hope so," you tell her. "I know times have been hard recently. I hope things might turn around."

(Continued)
>>
>>32042915
"Are you sure you need to leave?" she asks. "There's a place here for one who can accomplish things like what you've done for us today."

"Yeah, I've got business elsewhere, ma'am," you tell her. "And, truth be told, I don't know when, or if, I'll be back this way again."

She nods, slowly. "If you ever are, know that you'll be welcome," she tells you. "This is a debt we can't repay now, but I hope we're able someday."

You leave town not long after, and without much fuss. It's more than a week back to somewhere that you can trade this head in for its bounty, so you really don't want any more delay than is necessary.

And so, you're back to walking.

It's a long walk. Long enough for you to try new things out, experiment with your new talents, learn some things. And after some testing, you've learned some stuff...

>>32042933
In this system, Charms are keywords tied to specific skills/attributes that can be activated by spending Essence. For example, a Dawn/Full Moon might have Melee/Dexterity with Supernatural, and can activate that charm keyword with 1 essence.

The default charm keywords for a Lunar are as follows:
>Reaching - Shift ranges closer or further for some effect up to Essence steps along the following scale: Close, Reach, Short, Medium, Long, Extreme, and Sight. This could - among other things - be used to let Scruffy extend his arms to attack someone with a sword at bow ranges.
>Multiple - Causes the number of targets in range affected to be multiplied by a factor of Essence. Stacks multiplicatively to devastating effect.
>Paced - Shifts the duration by up to Essence steps along the following scale - Instant, turns, scenes, days, weeks, months, years, etc.
>Supernatural - Ignore one limitation. See in the dark with Supernatural Perception, bend around someone's shield with Supernatural Dexterity, and so forth.
>Harming - Cause damage with something normally non-damaging. Harming Performance for a Solar would let them sing someone to death - Harming Appearance could make you so beautiful that people die.
>Triumphant - Add Attribute/2 (rounded up) successes to a roll.
>Enduring - Guaranteed to still have Attribute/2 dice (rounded up) left over on any roll after all penalties.
>Other - New charm keywords can be invented.

(Continued)
>>
>>32043021
So, for example, Scruffy could take Triumphant, Enduring, Supernatural, Multiple, and Reaching for Dexterity. He could then activate Reaching, Multiple twice, and Supernatural in order to make an attack against four people at Short range that ignores armor for all of them. That's how charms work.

Scruff starts with five free charms. You've seen the list of charms available. Here are what they can be assigned to:

-Full Moon (Physical) 5
>Strength
>Dexterity
>Stamina

-Changing Moon (Social) 3
>Charisma
>Manipulation
>Appearance

-No Moon (Mental) 1
>Perception
>Intelligence
>Wits

Feel free to ask questions, discuss, and come to something halfway approaching a consensus regarding what keywords you want to put where.

For context, Scruffy currently has Essence 2, 4/4 chi, and 4/6 health.
>>
>>32043040
Wait, we spend Essence? Or do we spend chi to activate Charms.

I'm thinking that Supernatural for Dexterity could get us a lot of mileage, we might be able to use it to literally steal someone's heart.
>>
>>32043040
Only one I'm thinking off the top of my head is Multiple for Charisma, would let us inspire/strike fear into groups pretty easily.
>>
>>32043040
Strength (Triumphant, Multiple)
Dexterity (Supernatural)
Charisma (Triumphant)
Perception (Supernatural)
>>
>>32043153
Chi, points of essence - they're synonymous. Chi is basically a combination of motes of essence and points of willpower.

And yeah, Supernatural and Triumphant are the real workhorses here. Supernatural Dexterity can be used to hide something in a pocket that doesn't exist, Supernatural Appearance can be used to make your anima banner invisible, and so forth. Triumphant, on the other hand, is a fairly generic excellency.

Triumphant makes you do something better, Supernatural lets you do something impossible, and Enduring lets you suck at something really hard less - you could still have three dice for lifting an entire mountain, for example, instead of getting penalized down to 0.

The others mostly just change the logistics of how you're doing things, letting you turn single actions into mass actions, close range things into long-reaching effects, or making things happen quicker/last longer. Which can be super useful in its own right.

Generally speaking, the following skill/stat associations hold true:

Strength

Dexterity

Stamina

Dexterity is still crazy good, but it's not quite a godstat. You want Strength charms for melee combat.

>>32043513
Melee/Martial Arts is under Strength.
Unless you want to switch up to being an archer, killiness falls to Strength.

Here: http://aakin.net/wiki/lib/exe/fetch.php?media=qwixalted_-_lunars2.2.pdf
>>
>>32043482
>Is there any limit on how many Charms attached to a single stat we can use for a single action?
Only how much Chi you have.

>How fast do chi points regenerate?
One point per scene/hour, plus additional regeneration for special effects or for feeding me good stunts while voting for options.

>>32043541
It could let you affect a much larger crowd, among other things. Using Multiple on a Charisma roll could double the amount of people that could hear you by suddenly being magically louder, or making your words mystically capable of floating to more ears. Multiple still affects things that already affect multiple people - it increases it by a factor of the character's Essence score.
>>
>>32043556
okay. the example given here >>32043040
>Scruffy could take Triumphant, Enduring, Supernatural, Multiple, and Reaching for Dexterity. He could then activate Reaching, Multiple twice, and Supernatural in order to make an attack against four people at Short range that ignores armor for all of them.
made it sound as if Dexterity was used for Melee attacks
>>
>>32043604
Yeah, that was my bad. I fucked up that description. Close-range combat falls under Strength in this system.
>>
>>32043513 here, changing my vote to:

>Strength (Multiple,Supernatural,Triumphant)
>Charisma (Triumphant)
>Perception (Supernatural)
>>
>>32043556
>http://aakin.net/wiki/lib/exe/fetch.php?media=qwixalted_-_lunars2.2.pdf
Is there no Parrying in this system? Am I reading this right?

May be better to become an archer then, so we can focus everything on Dex
>>
>>32043669
Your chances of parrying and dodging are rolled into PDV. Note that shields and certain weapons can add to PDV.
>>
Sounds like people want the following so far:
Strength (Triumphant)
Dexterity (Supernatural)
Charisma (Supernatural/Triumphant)

Is that accurate so far? If so, where do you want the 4/5th charm(s) to go?

>>32043669
Your Physical DV is based on Full Moon. Dexterity charms are used to boost it. There's no meaningful distinction between Dodge and Parry for Lunars, on a mechanical level.
>>
>>32043701
Oh, and we're already maxed on Dexterity. Grab Triumphant and Paced for it at some time and defense stuff is pretty much done.
>>
>>32043735
Strength (Multiple)
>>
>>32043735
Pacedx2 for Strength, so our dice-adder is scene-long.
>>
>>32043735
Quite a few votes for Perception (Supernatural).
>>
We should probably get more than 1 combat charm with it being what we're best at.
>>
>>32043775
Seconding
>>
>>32043735
Stamina (Supernatural) seems like a good addition, it lets us to endure pretty much anything.
>>
Sounds like:

Strength (Triumphant, Multiple)
Dexterity (Supernatural)
Charisma (Triumphant)
Perception (Supernatural)

That would let you be impossibly strong and killy, hit many dudes in a single attack, run across open air, sneak through closed doors, hide things in nonexistent pockets, be impossibly charismatic, see through walls, see in the dark, taste colors, and so forth.

Is that the starting suite you all want for Scruffy?

>>
>>32043937
Sounds good, we should see about raising our Perception when we get a chance to get more mileage out of Supernatural Perception.

How does raising our stats work anyways? Can we raise perception up independently of the other mental ones, or get a specialization in it?
>>
>>32044039
>Can we raise perception up independently of the other mental ones, or get a specialization in it?
Nope. Just have to raise No Moon as a whole for mundane talent increases. This is not a detailed or rigorous system.
>>
>>32044054
So we see in the dark as if it was day, but we're almost blind during the day anyways so it doesn't matter?
>>
>>32044148
We'll just have to get some other Perception charms down the line.
>>
Alright, one last bit before the next proper update. You have gained access to a new Background now as a Moon Prince - Solar Bond. You can, at this point, move points from Influence, Contacts, and Destiny into it, if you so choose. In the former two, the loss of points is explained by having influence/contacts with things important to a mortal no longer being meaningfully significant at your power level, while the latter is represented by Destiny/Fate no longer having as firm of a grasp on you.

Solar Bond gives you bonus dice when acting in a way that, in some way, helps your Sun Prince mate, and a penalty when acting in a way that harms them. It's extremely open to interpretation - locking someone up while they go through withdrawal despite their orders and pleas to the contrary is probably a helpful action, while passively feeding their ego constantly is probably a negative one. The background doesn't make you slave to your Mate, it just makes you better at helping them, and bad at hurting them.

This background isn't necessarily - or even by default - romantic. It's just a more potent supernatural link to your mate than default.

So, do you guys want to move any points into it, or just leave it alone?

Also, I forgot to mention, but Stamina and Appearance are where you want to invest things like Supernatural for special shapeshifting options, and for every charm you put in Stamina, you get more health levels - Lunars can get a LOT of health levels.
>>
>>32043937
That's actually exactly what I wanted.
>>
>>32044148
gives me an idea for a superhero with x-ray vision that sadly is very near-sighted, and glasses don't break x-rays like they do visible light.
>>
>>32044211
>Solar Bond
nope.jpg
>>
>>32044211
For /tg/? I'll avoid it, thanks.
>>
>>32044211
I'd say take from Contacts to put into the Bond. I'd like to see how that plays out. Plus, mortal Contacts are probably the ones that would decay in value the most compared to Influence or Destiny.
>>
>>32044211
Can we wait until we meet him, if ever?
>>
>>32044211
>for every charm you put in Stamina, you get more health levels
Good to know. No solar bond, though.
>>
>>32044211
Instead of Solar Bond, tell us if there's an equivalent of the Golden Widow Method in the system.
>>
>>32044211
I'm good with moving some points into it, it might be fun, we don't really need Contacts as much now.

And I'd personally prefer Supernatural Stamina over Perception, the Shapechanging options as well as being able to survive everything seems more useful.

Once we up No Moon a notch Supernatural Perception might be worth it, but it's not that helpful right now.
>>
>>32044211
I'd take Solar Bond over Destiny.
>>
>>32044211
Taking that would pretty much guarantee that we meet our bond mate, right?
I'd prefer it if we never even met him, tbh.
>>
>>32044305
No. Solar Bond is a background gained - or not gained - at exaltation. It's not an especially good relationship with someone, it's a mystical link between exaltations.

You might take Solar Bond 2 and never even meet your mate, for example.

>>32044325
There isn't.

>>32044349
It would make it much more likely, at any rate, yes.
>>
>>32044211
We should move one point of destiny to solar bond. One point isn't very much at all and our destiny (causing a great betrayal/being victim of one) could still technically be in effect. On the flip side exalted powers tend to fuck with fate so if we keep destiny there's a chance we could override it anyways. Unless fate and the exalteds effect upon it are different in qwixalted.

Plus or Solar mate could be hot.
>>
>>32044211
fuck no.
The Bond is such a big downside to the Lunar Exaltion I'd actually take an Abyssal or Infernal one over a Lunar one with high Bond.
It's straight up mindrape
>>
>>32044211
Leave it alone for now. We haven't even met him/her yet, who knows when we will.
>>
>>32044388
I always thought it was pretty unfair that Infernals and Abyssals are asked their opinion and can refuse and Lunars are forced into it
>>
>>32044211
No bond
>>
>>32044211
Thanks but no thanks. I'd rather we have the influence and contacts.

>>
No bond it is. Honestly, that's my preference too. Just wanted to make sure you guys knew about the option before the window passed.

FINAL final question, because I'm an asshole who keeps thinking of more shit.

Does Scruffy make a point of acquiring additional forms on the way back to the city? If so, how aggressively, and are there any particular forms/types of form he goes for? Or just normal food/prey animals?
>>
>>32044512
Try and get a fast form, a combat form and a flying form
>>
>>32044512
Wolf and any available feline predators

also Birds of prey if possible
>>
>>32044512
He has bow and arrows, right? Maybe he could hunt a large raven for flying.
>>
>>32044567
I think our base Greyhound is probably fast enough, but I can get behind something to fly with.
>>
>>32044512
Don't forget a fish!
>>
>>32044512
Grab a couple. Something fast, something stealthy, and a bird because who doesn't want to fly? Leave the big beasts (we are getting a tyrant lizard eventually i hope) for another time.

OOOH river dragon. So voting a river dragon.
>>
>>32044512
It's always a good idea to have some extra forms, so yes. Pretty aggressively, don't go too far out of our way, but try to find new things to kill and eat.

We'll want at least 1 flier, a couple smaller forms for sneaking into places through gaps, a couple fish so we can swim, try to get some interesting predators as well, especially things with keen senses.
>>
>>32044512
Just scarf down any animal we encounter on the way. Treat it like a fucking barbecue.

Eat all the hearts. Wear their skin.
>>
>>32044692
This, no hunting fucking river dragons, just the common animals we can find around.
>>
>>32044512
Some little animals for sure. Like bugs and/or little mammals.
Also a bird for flying for sure.
And i'd like something big and brute.
>>
>>32044512
Get a rat for spying around and a sturdy bird for flight.
>>
>>32044512
It would be my preference to not waste too much time form hunting while we turn in this rotting decapitated head. Something stealthy and something flying would be useful, but anything else can wait.
>>
>>32044789
We can easily find fish, small animals and birds without going out of our way at all. They are what's most of people are voting for so i don't think we'll spend much of an additional time on it.
>>
>>32044692
Yeah. Kill when he get hungry, take the heart's blood as an incidental when we eat the thing, move on. I'm all for just taking forms at opportunity and not going out and slaughtering just for the sake of getting new forms.
>>
You don't take any detours, but you take a shot at just about every animal you see along the way - it's nice having a hunting bow. After all, each animal is not only delicious, it gives you one more thing you can become. And you're getting good at some of this stuff too - your favorite trick you've figured our so far is turning into a bird, flying above a prey bird, turning back into yourself, grabbing it as you fall, and turning back into a bird again before you hit the ground. That particular trick is all about timing.

By the time you reach your destination, you've stolen the forms of three different types of fish - including a freshwater eel - two deer - one doe and one buck - five different types of bird - including a hawk and a crow - a stray cat, an a number of rabbits. It's a decent haul, you think, for animals you just happened to run across on a week-long foot trip.

By the time you get to the city, you're well-fed. You head straight to the bounty office as soon as you get there, and get paid in silver shortly thereafter. They recognized his facial tattoos - without those, the head was barely recognizable. With that done, you find yourself in a decent-sized city, by the name of Bofang, with one pouch full of silver coins, and another full of gold dust.

Your sword is in dire need of repair - or replacing, you could probably get a really nice one with the stuff you've got. You're also barely clothed anymore.

What do you do?
>>
>>32045082
We need a drink first dammit. All else is secondary.
>>
>>32045082
Get the clothes taken care of first. Nobody's going to respect us if we don't have STYLE.
>>
>>32045082
Get a better sword, then go for a drink. We might end up in a fight where we need a good weapon.
>>
>>32045082
Repair the sword. We need it for now, but a proper replacement, one made of moonsilver, will have to be found.

Get drunk.
>>
>>32045082
Sword and clothes first. Once we're presentable we can go get a drink.
>>
>>32045082
>Giving us the opportunity to pick gear
fuck well he goes 2 threads about arguing about fucking polearms

Anyways I say we get some armor
>>
>>32045192
We have already decided though, first thread.
>>
>>32045082
Get a drink.
>>
>>32045082
First things first, get the best sword we can find.
>>
You decide to splurge a little. You get yourself a new shirt and pants, something presentable, but tough enough to get dirty and be worn rough without getting too damage. A longcoat too, made of tough brown leather panels and thick, oiled canvas. Not the prettiest thing, but it should keep you protected from the elements for once.

The hat stays.

After that, you swing by a blacksmith, put in a request for a new sword, made of good bronze. Not a masterpiece, but sure as shit better than what you've got right now. You end up settling on a dao as the design, and your requests end up with a sword too big for most men to use one-handed, but which you should be able to manage with your newly monstrous strength. You leave a down payment and, with assurances from the smith that it should be done and ready by tomorrow, you head for the saloon.

Ah, saloons, your home away from... homelessness, you suppose. Gambling, drinking, music, amorous women - as long as nobody gets stabbed, there are few places more homey out there.

And it's been WAY too long since you've had anything to drink but shitty herbal medicine-booze. It's not a great saloon that you stop in at, but it is one that people of a similar profession frequent, so there's much less risk of being robbed blind while drunk. You order yourself up an entire bottle of cheap wine and less-cheap sake to slowly celebrate through the entire night...

(Continued)
>>
>>32045082
get sword, get clothes, get drunk
>>
>>32045495
And an hour later, they're both empty, and you're still not drunk. You're maybe a little tipsy, but you've had an entirely unreasonable amount of alcohol in a very short period of time after such a long dry spell.

Whatever the Moon did to you, booze is barely affecting you at all.

What do you do in the light of this new tragedy?
>>
>>32045082
Reforged sword (Iron, right? I hope it's steel. Damnable fae are something we're supposed to be good at killing, as a Lunar.), get a poncho and a decent stetson. Then booze.
>>
>>32045511

It's not very strong at all. You're in a frontier territory in the Scavenger Lands, far from the nearest Satrapy. Lookshy is stronger here than the Realm is, and they're almost 2,000 miles away.

>>
>>32045912
Drinking Contest Hoooo!
At least once tonight, as we try to look at the bright side of our new alcohol tolerance.
>>
"Assassin!" you mumble in angry disgust as you push away your empty bottles. "Fiend! Thrice-damned moon!"

Still, you can make the best of a bad situation. You manage to organize a bunch of men who fancy themselves big-drinkers into a drinking contest. Everyone puts in a wager, chips in for the booze, and...

Well, an hour later, you have a mildly pleasant buzz, and everyone else got drunk under the table. You made some decent silver, and even a little jade, off the whole thing too.

By this point, the sun's finally set. You figure you could settle in for the night, rent yourself a room - with an actual bed! - and get some sleep.

Unless you've got something else you might want to do in the city before that?
>>
>>32046363
Why howl at the moon of course!
nah go to fucking sleep
>>
>>32046363
If there's anyone still sober in the bar then spend some time talking to them, gathering information on anything interesting that's been happening nearby, catch up on rumors and the like.
>>
>>32046363
Let's hit the hay.

Also, we're only 40 posts past Autosage and we're already pushed to page 9. Damn.
>>
>>32046363
Bed time, with some 'company' of course.
>>
You pay for a room and stroll on up to sleep. You were hoping to do all this drunk, but, well, at least you get to sleep in a bed.

And tomorrow? Tomorrow you finally get a new, proper sword.

You can't wait.

And that's where I'll end it for tonight, since we're on page 9 and autosaging. There's a good chance I'll do another thread tomorrow. If I don't, I'll definitely do one or more threads again next weekend - this will be a weekend quest, with weekday sessions being the exception rather than the rule.

>>32046639
Hey. You. Thanks. That it all.
>>
>>32046639
Very nice. Any particular reason it'll be out of bronze? I'm not very familiar with Exalted, much less the variant we're using.
>>
>>32046755
It's just that most of the setting is fairly Bronze Age in technology, especially when we're out in the boonies like we are right now.
>>
>>32046755
God steel isn't terribly common in Creation, or at least its farther parts and bronze is much harder than iron
>>
>>32047040
>>32047071
Thank you both! Just wanted to be sure it was a simple thing like that, and not some kind of particular choice.
>>
>>32046755
The majority of the Exalted setting is Bronze Age. There are some areas with higher tech, and areas with lower, but most of it is right around there. That means your options for weapons tend to be cheap, brittle iron, or good, solid bronze, since steel is outside of the scope of most smiths in Creation.

In most places, you want bronze for good weapons, and irons for cheap weapons or for use against faeries.

Mind you, getting a steel weapon is definitely a possibility. It'll be easier than getting an artifact weapon, at any rate.
>>
>>32047129
Makes sense. Stick to the normal bronze of the area/times till we travel enough and/or get important enough to justify something as relatively rare as steel weaponry.
>>
>>32047241
Pretty much. Certain major cities have steel - or other, rarer materials. The city of Chiaroscuro, in the South, has a super-hard super-sharp glass that they chisel and grind into perfect blades, for example.

The more you travel, the more options you run into. But in this particular city, trying to get a decent sword overnight without bankrupting yourself? Good bronze is the way to go.

Thank your lucky stars you're not in an area that considers flint-headed axes the peak of weapon crafting.
>>
>>32047393
Eesh. Yeah, our Tetanus Sword was useful, but I wouldn't want to choose between it and what's essentially a lumber axe.
>>
>>32047582
Yeah. I guess that, without the context of Creation's tech level, that bronze-headed hatchet wouldn't have seemed like as nice of a find as it was for Scruffy in that situation. Scruffy has basically been using an iron - not steel, iron - sword with a chipped edge, a broken tip, and more than a bit of rust. Which is, you know, really typical for a sword made of a low-grade, brittle metal like un-alloyed iron.
