Listen, my friends, to the legend of the Bionicle.

Long ago, in the time before time, the Great Spirit Mata Nui descended like a burning star from the heavens. We were separate and without purpose, so the Great Spirit gave us the masks we need to survive and illuminated us with the Three Virtues: Unity, Duty, and Destiny. We embraced these gifts, and we named our home Mata Nui, after the Great Spirit, for without his guidance we would have been lost.

Our happiness was not to last. Makuta, Mata Nui's shadow, grew jealous of the honors we gave the Great Spirit. He cast Mata Nui into a deep slumber, and darkness came over the land. The once-peaceful Rahi rampage, and travel between the Koro has become increasingly dangerous- Matoran who leave the villages alone disappear.

But there is still hope. An ancient prophecy tells of heroes destined to awaken Mata Nui. The Toa, warriors wielding the strength of the elements, will appear in our time of need to protect the Matoran and vanquish Makuta.

---

Welcome to Bionicle Quest! Please be gentle with me.

The Quest proper begins next post, with character creation.

Most decisions will be reached by consensus within a specified amount of time, although I may ask you to roll for certain combat actions.

This quest will (mostly) take place on the island of Mata Nui, ie Bionicle 2001.

The ocean laps at the metal walls of your canister. You can hear seabirds, although their sound is muffled. Ancient mechanisms shriek in protest at being awoken from what, judging by the rust, appears to be years of disuse and begin to grudgingly click. A popping sound heralds the appearance of a circle of light overhead. The sun glares into your light-starved eyes.

The clicking stops, and you are flung unceremoniously onto a beach. Several small crabs scuttle away. One of your arms nearly crushed them. You feel woozy.

Of course you do; pieces of you are strewn around on the sand. You aren't quite sure how you know what goes where, but you slowly piece yourself together. The more of yourself you reassemble, the more you feel like... yourself.

You slap the last piece, a mask, onto your face, and the dizziness disappears. You start to remember more about yourself.

Your Name:
(The name that is yours.)

Your Gender:
(I will not be abiding by the element-gender boundaries, since a. They have at least one canonical exception (Psionics guy whatshisname) and b. I want more variety and won't be pulling rule 63 on any major characters. Also c. I expect tg to try to play as a little girl and that shouldn't restrict element choices.)

Your Elemental Affinity:
(The element you control. This determines armor color. Elemental control usually allows a Toa to manipulate existing quantities of an element, absorb existing quantities of an element, and create quantities of that element. I say usually because certain powers (such as Psionics) can't really create/destroy. Selectable Elements include Fire, Water, Earth, Air, Stone (totally not earth), Lightning, Ice, and Sonics. Elements that may not be chosen include Shadow, Light, Gravity, Time and anything else broken or Legendary, at my discretion. Feel free to submit others.)

Your Toa Tool
(The weapon you use to focus your power. Stick to melee weapons for now.)

Alright, I'll bite and get my hopes up.
Name: (I'll get back to this.)
Gender: Girl (You can't call us out on the little girl thing dammit!)

Affinity: Earth (Dammit, now I've got Toph the Toa stuck in my head.)

Tool: Halberd? I'm trying to think of something different from the normal Toa.

I know the light guy had a spear, but other than that I don't think any of them had something with length to it.

since the movie takes place further down the timeline that the OP defines this quest, I'm not sure. But I don't think people will object too much to drawing on both.
>>
>>32043192
That might work. Some kind of precision tool to go with our Big Drill Sword that can attach giving us reach.

Still, Important question here: Earth or Stone? I think Earth would give us more maneuverability but Stone would probably give us more raw power. Course, I'm just guessing.

Stone makes more sense with the drillblade thing, since we would be living with underground miners.
>>
>>32043243
Stone lets you do crazy combos (kicking one stone to capitalize on the microscopic fractures in other formations to cause a massive tumbling action to smite shit) but the powers are more niche, earth is a little more versatile.
And onu-koro is way cooler than po-koro

Stone lived in po-wahi, which was above ground and in a desert.

also, God Damn it, now I have to find my VHS player to watch the Bionicle movies again... though It will be glorious....
>>
>>32043243

Hexari sounds a bit sci-fi.

The differences between Earth and Stone:

Physically, Earth is less solidified protodermis (except when it isn't) and more closely associated with the underground. Stone is hard solidified protodermis (except when it isn't) and associated with canyons, mountains, and deserts.

Philosophically, Earth is more passive, with a bent towards reclusiveness. Earth is wise and slow, and values the past (Onu-Matoran Archivists). Stone is strong and hard, occasionally to the point of being unyielding.
>>
>>32043256
By stone I meant Earth. Made the same mistake as this guy >>32043279. I just want to be a miner who mines rocks with his face and maybe has a pet crab.

It might be wise to play with the spelling abit though to make a more functional name

You are Tumahti. That's all you can come up with.

You pick up the last thing that flew out of with you, a thin grooved metal cone (maybe you'll find somewhere to attach it later? For now, it'll serve as a weapon) and climb atop the beached canister to survey your surroundings.

The beach you landed on is small. There are cliffs beside you, and a natural trail leads up to the jungle. Seabirds wheel overhead. There doesn't seem to be anything dangerous around, although there might be something in the water. Ugh. It's not like you want to go in there anyway.
The jungle ahead beckons. The idea is silly, but it seems like fate is pulling you straight ahead.

[ ] Climb rocks; why not take the hard way up?
[ ] Enter the jungle. Something might be calling you...

[x] Climb rocks.

The cliff is actually a slight overhang, but you climb it as easily as you walk. You seem to know instinctively just where to put your fingers and the exact amount of weight each rock will hold. You skip handholds and even try climbing backwards for a while.

The cliff is surprisingly tall; the trees you saw from the beach were actually enormous. At about a third of the way up, you run into a ledge of weak rock. You push yourself away from the rock face, hook your fingers onto the edge of the ledge, and swing up and over the obstacle, giving it just enough force to send it down.

It feels pretty good.

You land back on the cliff face and look down just in time to watch the former ledge crash into the ocean. The spray almost reaches you.

Down on the remnants of the ledge lies a gray mask, kind of like the one you have on. You could try to grab it and head up, or you could just continue up the cliff face.

[ ] Try to grab the mysterious mask. It'll take up a hand, but that's no problem for you.

Retracing your path down, you reach for the mask and hook it with your foot. You pull it up to your hand. A bit of rust flakes off.

Before you can investigate further, the entire cliff face crumbles into the ocean. As you fall, you notice marks from a flat stone tool behind the rocks. It looks like somebody went to a whole lot of trouble to booby-trap this mask's location, even raising an entire false cliff face to do so.

What a dick.

On the plus side people have lived here before, and you have a new mask. On the other side, you are falling off a cliff.

Wat do?

[ ]Resign yourself to cold wet fate and just try thinking about making the cliff not fall. You'll survive (made of metal), but it'll hurt. Oh, and you might drown.

[ ]Try running up the falling rocks. It'd be totally badass and, with your mad rock-climbing skills, actually possible.

[ ]Use your grooved metal cylinder on a stick to catch the wall and then dodge rocks. Also pretty badass.

Thanks. Since the prior sequence makes less sense with earth, earth's ideology isn't binding, /tg/ likes brown girls, and earth and stone have similar power sets, I think I'll stick with stone. If I get an overwhelmingly negative response, I'll move it to earth.

Yeah I prefer earth as well, plus, as mentioned, the personalities don't always sync up to elements. You can be an adventurous earth Toa rather than a bookworm.
>>
>>32046978
I'd rather keep Earth, Stone is nice being stronger and stuff, but what matters really is that Stone makes us crappy brown whereas Earth means pimp pure black mask.

That and going with earth usually being calm and rational makes for a change from the usual action hero character.

[ ] Run up falling rocks

1/2 (Part 2 in a minute or so)

You swivel in midair, planting your drillspear into the cliff face and pushing off it with your hands to get airborn. You land on a rock across from you, snag the drillspear, and run straight up. When you reach the top of that rock, you spring up to the next one.

You can move pretty fast, but you can't move faster than the rocks fall, at least not while also fighting gravity one-handed - and the rocks are running out. You try to figure out what to do, and your concentration breaks. Your left foot lands on a rock made slippery by the spray, and you plummet towards the water.

Astute questers may have guessed our mask power. (It's broken)

[x] Fight.

You level your drillspear in a hopefully menacing way. The creature's forearm snaps out- directly into your drillspear's tip. If you're lucky, it'll hurt itself and back off. You don't really want to kill it.

It's got metal and toughened skin there. Of course it does. Your handhold is good, but the impact is enough to stun you, and you drop a few feet before your foot catches in a perfectly shaped notch that you could have sworn wasn't there earlier. You grip the drillspear tightly with both hands.

The creature strikes again, but this time you have the presence of mind to dodge the blow. Its arm lodges in a crevice. It turns its other arm towards you.
Your back is, quite literally, to the wall. The mysterious mask fell into the water the first time you were hit, and, while you regret its loss, your survival is more important. If this thing knocks your mask off, you could fall and drown... assuming it doesn't eat you first.
>>
>>32048606
Whats our choices here? are we waiting for more story stuff? I say we try and spear the thing's mask off... its right at the base of its head? right?

Your back is to the wall, you've got nothing to stand on, and that's enough puns for today.

[ ] Run up. You can't take this thing in a fight. If it hunts by ambush and stuns its prey, how fast can it be?

[ ] Drop down. Your back is to the wall and you haven't got a thing to stand on. Maybe you can grab the mask and swim away.

[ ] Fight. One good blow to the head might stun it long enough for you to escape or kill it.

[x] Fight

The cliffside seems to be perfectly positioned for you. Hopefully the creature's hand remains stuck in the crevice. You use the drillspear's butt to try and lock the hand in, and the entire cliff shifts. It certainly isn't going to be escaping any time soon, although if looks could kill, you'd be long dead. It seems you have the ability to influence the earth's movement to some extent.

The beast snarls and its other forearm lashes out and-

You focus and-

A wall of earth erupts from the sea between you. You're gasping for breath and your muscles hurt, but this should buy you enough time to come up with a better plan.

You can hear a dull thunking from the other side of the wall. The vibrations reveal that, whether the creature is planning to kill you or simply trying to escape, the wall will collapse toward you soon. Maybe this wasn't such a good idea.

Quest ends here for tonight, as my already subpar writing gets worse as I get tired. I'll be around for Q&A for a while though. General Bionicle Thread?

The quest should continue tomorrow. The Tarakava has one forearm through the wall between you and stuck in the cliff behind you, and one bashing on the wall with its head. A Prequel Arc (or two) a couple movies, and a metric butt load of side stories and even a couple alternate universes along the way.

I liked Makuta better when he wasn't a brotherhood.

Yeah... that might've been the one thing I didn't like with the newer years. As cool as the Karda Nui arc was actually, the whole expansion into "Makuta being a race of sorta Toa Prototypes" and... shit like that. Teridax is a kinda shitty name. Makuta sounds primeval, evil, and just rolls off the tongue.
>>
>>32050904

Calix revamp advice:

The 2001 masks don't really have mouths. They have circles, bars, rectangles, and parallelograms, but the lack of a mouth fits the almost surreal idea of robots on a tropical island. The Ignika Calix is actually organic and sentient (and ugly).

Teridax's master plan will be kept in mind, but thr Brotherhood probably won't be a thing.
Some details will be changed: I'll slim down the Makuta Powerset (42 Kraata powers plus shadow hand plus mask is just too many), use less to no visorak stuff, probably different Toa Ignika/Mahri if they exist at all. The Brotherhood's reason for rebelling etc actually fit with the original Amaja Circle legend, which I find fascinating.

Maybe I can have somebody call him Teridax and have him get pissed off.

Makuta as a villain is cooler as the primal force created with Mata Nui, almost like Tren Krom. He should be able to hold his own in a fight, but as the primal force of evil, he subverts and corrupts (see: activating Bohrok early/Ahkmou/the Master Plan).

Nah. Captain Nui would wear something new and never seen before. Like a mask that looks like random metal just stuck to his face and then turned into a mask after a while.
I have no idea for a power.. Maybe something passive? Like buffing teammates? Or maybe healing. A team captain that is also the partys white mage

I like this a lot. I still think either Ga-koro or the leaf dudes would be a good fit for him, even if he does tend to wander more than stick around.
>>
>>32054645
he would totally bro it up with the leaf dudes.

>>
>>32054587
I like this.
Maybe make him some sort of musical tinker too. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3tVZxqEm5PQ

I might have to save this for when the OP comes back but are we rolling with toa in the original Six elements? or are we branching out into expanded universe stuff? Magnetism Psionics, Sonics, Green, Metal, Etc, being elements of matoran, and therefore elements of toa.
>>
how about.. a toa of animal/life? This would be the token girl toa and she would be found by the animals of mata nui and raised by them.
She wouldn't have any weapons but instead have a bond with some crazy lego monster that everyone fears but she just thinks is a big ball of love or something
>>
>>32054693
I don't think there is any "Main" elements. You just make a toa and roll with it. Last night I posted the idea for a toa of magnetism and then later the name Captain Nui. People rolled with it and now is more of a community project.
If you have an idea for a toa I say go for it. Post it and see what people say
>>
>>32054702
There's the Green (Not Air which is also green, but The Green is an element all its own, apparently), which is... essentially Plants as an element, plus there is a mask of Rahi summoning.

>>
>>32054775
we could maybe perhaps make the animal control more like animal posession. Like a clever way of using a mask of Mind Control or mask of Spirits. Meaning the toa in question might be a bit indesposed while working whatever animal or rather Rahi magic.

Also, keep using the same tags for each thread so we can have a complete archive. You can also put in an extra tag or two to describe the particular going-ons in a thread.

Possibly. There is a mask of Adaptation, which basically has no real appearance or Cool Maori-esque name, because its mostly been fluffed in fiction.

Hell one can fluff a whole new mask for that sort of thing to be honest. But might have to be like minimized somehow.

Cause yeah there's stuff in canon that are similar, like mask of kindred, which is basically mimic rahi abilities, or adaptation (Which is more about fitting into an enviroment), nothing along the lines of physical transformation like that. So yeah. Fluff away!
